Eddie meets Buck at a bar and when they hit it off, he takes Buck home. They're already halfway to undressed and Eddie’s pulling out his wallet in a rush, fumbling for a condom when Buck says, “You can just leave the money on the dresser, I’ll get it later.”

On the one hand, if they sparred, they might burn off more of their restless energy, and he would get to watch them sparring. On the other hand, if things became too heated, one or the other of them might storm off to sleep elsewhere, and he didn't want that either. It was almost distressing how much he'd come to anticipate having the two of them in his bed each night, and a part of him was perpetually braced for how the precarious balance that they had built would all come crashing down sooner or later.
But if Li Lianhua knew anything, it was how to live in the moment.
