Imagine your OTP has been dating for a few months, and are 19-25 years old. One day they go out for coffee with a friend and person A is like 'man my legs are so sore' and the friend is like 'why?' and sips their hot chocolate, then A and B look at each other and both blush and the friend spits out their drink and is like 'OH MY GODS, YOU GUYS DID THE FRICKLE FRACKLE'. But, as it turns out, they went to a huge trampoline gym meant for children and jumped around for three hours.

Will scowls. “Not funny,” he says for a third time. “Go away.”
Mike drops the stick unceremoniously. It falls to the damp forest floor, tumbling over itself before coming to a stop, splashing a few drops of water onto the hem of Will’s pants. “Okay fine,” Mike says. “I’ll bite. What’s your deal?”
The other fact of the matter is this: tomorrow, Will is going to walk into the Upside Down and not look back. Tomorrow, he is either going to kill Vecna or die trying — and Mike is not going with him.
Even the actual apocalypse had to end sometime, but Will didn’t exactly expect it to happen like this.

“I don’t think that it has to mean that you’re into guys,” Lucas says. His words are accompanied by a casual shrug, and said in the tone of someone who has clearly already given this subject some thought. Will doesn’t know what to do with that information. Jump from a building, maybe. “I mean, we’d all get flustered if Spider-Man carried us in his arms.”
Mike points to him enthusiastically. “Thank you, Lucas.”
Dustin looks between the two of them, his eyes narrowed.
“...Would we?”
“Sure,” Mike concludes. “He’s attractive. That’s not a weird thing to think.”
Will just barely resists the urge to bang his head against the table. He feels Dustin’s eyes glued to his burning face, and sinks even further down his chair.
In which Mike tells Spider-Man that he has a crush on his best friend, and Will jumps to some very wrong conclusions.

Summary
The problem with being friends with someone for such a long time, approximately eight billion years, and going through the apocalypse with them to boot, is that you may start to develop a tiny, itty-bitty, eensy-weensy little crush on them. And that wouldn’t even be too bad, no, Lucas could live with that.
The problem is that Lucas had to go and do it two more times.

“I do not–” Mike tries, even though he’d kind of just admitted to accidentally kissing Will Byers, a little, so maybe that’s an entirely fruitless road to go down.
Listen. No one should ever let Mike make decisions right after he wakes up from a nap, okay? Especially not decisions where Will is concerned. This is so not his fault.
