Chongyun had turned to leave one day, before his bright eyes widened and he spun a bit on his heel, stumbling a bit to keep his balance. "Oh, oh-!"
He'd went back to Xingqiu, having been in such a rush to get going he'd almost forgotten, and let Xingqiu pepper kisses to his cheeks, eyelids, nose and temple before ending on his mouth like he always did (repetition to amplify a point was another strong factor of poetry).
"Bye Xingqiu, I love you."

Not even when an ache settles deep in his chest, not when he pictures himself in the future, a thousand pranks etched into every wrinkle on his skin, a thousand proclamations of love left unsaid. Xingqiu in the future still caring, always caring, because it's Chongyun, it's always been Chongyun and it always will be Chongyun. Even with his bones creaking with every motion, even when Chongyun inevitably breaks his heart just by virtue of falling for someone who isn't Xingqiu.

“Then…” Chongyun starts, holding up a familiar slip of paper. “Did you mean to give this to me?”
A beat of silence passes between them. Then Xingqiu manages a lame, “...I have no idea what this is.”
Chongyun’s brows crease adorably at his words, lips pursed in thought as he studies the offending object. “I would recognize your handwriting anywhere,” he says and unfolds the paper, thumb brushing over the Commerce Guild’s embellishment in the corner.
