Chapter Text

“Up! Down! Up! Clint - raise those arms! Nat, stop cheating!”

Nat swore under her breath and pulled up. May, with whatever bat-hearing powers she possessed, somehow heard it and stalked up to her pull up bar.

“And your start over for sassing me, Romanoff. Clint, start over for laughing.”

Melinda paced across the gym, studying the Avengers forms. They were all doing pull-ups, Bruce and Tony struggling to keep pace with the two spies she kept having to chastise. Thor was doing his own version of pull-ups: lifting two mid-size vans stuffed with heavy camping equipment.

Cap got to supervise for being the only Avenger to not piss her off during their trial mission. May has spent the better part of the morning drilling them inside and out on the roof. She wore her aviators and a coach’s whistle, and periodically judged the disobeying heroes from the comfort of a lounge chair. She went over to said chair and picked up a magazine, casually flipping through the pages as the Avengers struggled on.

Phil sat beside her, not bothering to hide a smile. Melinda’s expression softened.

“What?”

Phil had been looking at her with the heart eyes face again, and she fought the urge to blush.

“Nothing. I just missed this. Us working side by side, no office, no paperwork. Feels nice.”

Melinda smiled, and boy was it a sight. “Yeah…it does.”

Phil held up his drink for a toast . “To the Avengers?”

She clinked her glass with hisand settled back in her lounger. “To the Avengers. And their sore arms tomorrow.”
