Chapter 1: Buck’s overlords meet

Chapter Text

Cora Daniels is a young police officer partner with Sergeant Athena Grant. She is learning a lot from her on calmly handling situations.

On her one month anniversary Athena said that she would take her to the place with the best food in L.A. Cora  was confused by the fact that Athena took her to a firehouse. Not long after she stood outside she went in to speak to Athena. She overheard Athena call the fire Captain 'honey'. Bit by bit she began to see who Athena Grant is.

As she got ready to talk to Athena a very handsome firefighter came to greet them.

"Hi, I'm Eddie." He said offering her a handshake.

"I'm Cora, nice to meet you Eddie. Sarge we need to go if you want to get that best food in L.A  you talked about." Eddie was laughing as Athena told her Bobby's cooking is the best in L.A. Eddie agreed with her saying that it was even better that his Abuela's, but we cannot tell her he said that.

"Diaz, I promise you I won't tell her you said that." Athena said.

"Wait you're Eddie Diaz? You don't have a son by the name of Christopher by any chance?"

"I do." He said giving her the ' I don't trust you' look. Cora just asked to if they could talk outside.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

"What I'm going to tell you, you cannot tell ANYONE about this."

"I promise."

"My brother Ev wrote me letters back when I was in the army and academy. He wrote about you and Christopher a lot." She smiled as she thought about her brother.

"I just don't get why you hide that you are related to them."

"Look, my mom died when I was young and the moment the we took in Ev he became the overprotective older brother. I was just hoping to make some friends before he could scare them off." Eddie gave her a look of sympathy.

The talked about their time in the army. How their time in the academy was. Cora told him about the times Buck thought she was a Zombie and a mummy. He was laughing about how his best friend reacted. They kept on talking till Bobby said that the food was done.

As they walked in Cora spotted Buck. She whispered to Eddie that he should watch this.

"Hellooooo, Ev!" Cora called out.

"Hell noooo!" Buck replied automatically, but as he saw her he was yelling again. "Maddie, come quick I think I'm loosing my mind! Maddie!" He yelled at his sister that was visiting her boyfriend on her day off.

As Maddie arrived Buck started talking again. "Maddie, you see her right?" He asked as Eddie was trying not to laugh at him.

"Buck, I see Hen, Athena and... Cora? Welcome home, but do you have to this to Buck every time?"

"Yes! It's funny, but at least this time he didn't call me a monster." Maddie was shaking her head muttering about children causing Eddie to start laughing as they sat down to eat.

Cora sat down between Eddie and Buck. Everyone looked at her as Chimney asked if she and Buck was dating. Cora and Buck pulled faces of disgust as Maddie and Eddie laughed.

"No, I'm Cora and I'm this idiot's sister." She said poking Buck.

"Hey! I may have done some stupid things, but I'm not an idiot."

"If you say so Buck, if you say so." Eddie said.

"I'm keeping you Diaz." Cora said fist bumping a blushing Eddie.

"Captain Wolf and Army medic Diaz as friends. Oh goodbye world my overlords have met." Buck cried out.

"And he say he is not an idiot." Hen said shaking her head as the rest laughed.

After they all calmed down the chatter turned into small talk like who the others are with. Cora was thanking Bobby for the wonderful food when Chimney asked buck about calling his sister a monster.

"See Chim, she once showed up on our doorstep looking like a zombie because she was awake for 36 hours traveling to make it home in time for Christmas. Then two years after that she came home injured and rapped up like a mummy. Luckily that time it was Halloween and everyone thought she had dressed up. Since then I have been trying to find her inner monster, but I think she is a werewolf. All calm and hidden until you mess with her pack then she turn deadly." Buck said while Cora gave him a smile.

"Yeah she looks like a wolf." Eddie said causing her to blush.

"Come Wolf, we need to go. Bye guys." Athena said. Cora and Hen swapped numbers with the promise of a girl's night out.

She hugged Buck and Maddie, shook hands with Bobby and Chimney and hugged Eddie slipping her number into his pocked as he did the same.

They have all just started working again when the call came in.

This is officer Ethan Owen, Three robbers just walked into the American Bank near the 118 station please send help. There were shots fired.

*click*

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

As the 118 drove to the American bank Bobby gave them the brief. That there is a robbery and hostage situation going on. There were shots and they can't confirm if there are any injuries or casualties, but they are going in for safety.

On the scene Athena walks over to tell them that Cora is looking around and that they have asked for the blueprint. She also told them that a different caller called 9-1-1 to report two injured people.

"Any contact with the robbers?"

"No. I'm thinking this is going to be a long day Bobby. The robbers refuse to cooperate with us." Athena say as Cora came back.

"Cora, what did you find?"

"We can go in from the roof, the second floor window and the back door, but first I need the blueprints."

Athena handed her the blueprints. Cora, Bobby, Eddie, Buck and Athena looked them over. On the prints there is a note telling them that floor three is under renovation.

"I think if we go in from the roof to the third floor we will find officer Owen hiding there. I think the hostages are being kept in this room here. If I go in with Han, Wilson, Diaz and Buckley we may be able to do this with no casualties. If we find Owen we can leave him Han And Wilson with the hostages. Diaz, Buckley and I can continue on to find the rest of the clients and staff. When we are in we are going to be texting only no vibration or sound." Cora say as she look at Athena.

"Okay Daniels. Let's get the rest up to speed."

A bit later Cora explain what they are going to do. Everyone was getting their gear ready as they wait for the helicopter.

Hen, Chimney and Eddie are getting medical supplies. Buck is getting all the gear they may need to open doors and windows. Athena is giving Cora extra guns, ammo and cuffs along with orders to keep them updated. Bobby gave Eddie a letter to give to officer Owen that explain the plane.

🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁

On the roof they all switch off the radios and send a text to Athena that they are moving in Eddie, who has a license to carry a gun, is at the back. In the lead is Cora closely followed by Buck then Hen then Chimney.

As she open the door to take the first step Buck pulled her back. Irritated she turn to Buck who show her the trap. Quick and quiet he took off his bag with the gear to dismantle the traps.

Guys be careful. They have set traps.
Cora texted to the rest.

Slowly they moved through the traps and entered the third floor. Looking for officer Owen was fast as he almost shot them as they entered. After Cora shows him her badge he calmed down and Eddie gives him the letter.  Owen tells them that he will take Chimney and Hen to the hostages and they can go on.

Found Owen. Splitting up now. May be silent Hen will give updates. Moving down to ground.

They moved down to the second floor and split up. Just before they entered a guy tried to attack them.

Eddie being at the back had to fight with him. The man just had a knife with him.

Eddie kicked the knife out of his hand and slid it over to Buck who pick it up. The man threw a left hook at Eddie. Eddie blocked it and followed with a jab giving the man an opening to hit him in the gut then to the face. Eddie recovered fast and caught the next punch, he swiftly moved the mans arm behind his back and knocked him down.

Cora threw him cuffs and buck helped him cuff him to a pipe. They texted Hen.

Hen, tell Owen that there is a perpetrator cuffed to a pipe near you.

👨🚒👨🚒👮♀️👨🚒👨🚒👮♀️👨🚒👨🚒👮♀️👨🚒👨🚒

As they enter the first floor they see the robbers before they could do anything Buck pulled them into a office.

"Buck." Cora and Eddie growl.

"Wait, I can explain. The two men outside the robbers they are or were SEALs. Back when I was in buds they were our trainers."

"Text Athena there names and buck who is who?"

"The black hair guy is Antonio Martino and the blond is James Black." Buck say as he text Athena.

Copmom, the robbers are Lt. Commander James Black and Commander Antonio Martino.

👮♀️👨🚒👨🚒👮♀️👨🚒👨🚒👮♀️👨🚒👨🚒👮♀️👨🚒

Fireson, NCIS say that they are dangerous. Pops and my chief say to deal with it fast and carefully. Captain Hondo say SWAT is ten out can you wait?

Sorry mom, they are getting angry and are planing to go kill someone to get answers.

Sarge, I'm going to get control of this.

"Ev, you think you can get them to trust you?"

"Yeah, but I'm going to need a gun and take of my gear."

Cora hand him a gun.

"Be careful Lt Commander Buckley." She whisper.

Eddie was skeptic about the situation, but let Buck go.

"Lt. Commander James Black and Commander Antonio Martino. Sirs I'm Lt. Commander Buckley can I ask what are you doing?"

Eddie has a look full of questions.

"I'll explain it later."

Buck and the Seals talk a bit when Martino pulled a gun on Buck. Not thinking for a second Cora tackle Martino while Buck started to fight with Black.

Martino hit Cora in the face causing her to spit blood out. Thinking fast she opened up her ribs hoping Martino will fall for it.  Luck was on her side. Martino took the bait and Cora grab his arm flipping him over and cuff him.

Looking over at Buck she see that he is almost done and that Eddie is getting the rest. She help Buck cuff him as they talk.

"Ev, you need to make the call." He nodded and walked away to make the call.

Cora text Athena.

Sarge, it done we are coming out.

Good job. SWAT just got here.

"Ev, how did it go?"

"Bobby will have the file tomorrow."

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Eddie and the rest just arrive. Hen helping a guy walk, Chimney carry a young girl and Owen have another bad guy. Eddie with a knockout bad guy in a firefighter carry. Cora look at Eddie and smile a bloody smile.

"I hate the rules, but I have to follow them."

Eddie shake his head and they walked out. The crowd see them and start clapping as they hand them over to Hondo.

Buck, Eddie and Cora are on the way to the hospital.

Chapter 3: Buck truly begins

Chapter Text

Chapter 3: Buck truly begins.

Evan always knew he wanted to be a SEAL. In his home town his neighbor was a former Captain in the SEALs the man was now working at the local community center.

The Captain, Owen Daniels, heard the abuse young Evan was going threw. He was glad when young Maddie left home and he hope that she have a safe life. When Evan was 14 Owen, Cora (his daughter) and Evan tricked Edward Buckley to sign his rights to Evan away.

Owen took Evan under his wings and trained him and Cora together. Every morning before school and every evening after he did his homework. Evan even had to ask him for help with a school project or two.

The day Evan turned 17 Owen took him to the nearest navel officer where Evan enlisted. Owen and Cora said sad goodbyes to Evan.

Evan was escaping his home town because of this he kept enlisting. The only times he took off was when it was mandatory. He kept in touch with the Daniels family.

On the mandatory leave he would pick up the odd jobs.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Everyone in buds knew that Evan was kind of an orphan. Evan past Buds with flying colors.

The Navy soon realized that Evan was the best person to join highly classified missions. He soon climbed the ranks to Lieutenant Commander.

The Navy forced him to take time off after Owen past away.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

He took leave and went to L.A.

He was down at the local pool one day when a ten year old was drowning. Without even thinking Evan jumped in to save the poor boy.

When the first responders arrived they were shocked to see the boy sitting up breathing with Evan keeping an eye on him.

“Who are you?”

“Hi, I’m Evan.”

“Ever thought about being a first responder?”

“I’ll think about it when my contact is over.”

The firefighter handed him a pamphlet.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Evan returned to the Navy. Sadly the mission went wrong and Evan ended up leading the team. Evan ended up saving the lives of all the men in his team.

After the mission was done and the contact was over Evan went to the Admiral.

He asked the Admiral to transfer to the reserve and seal his file till he is ready for the info to get out. The Admiral agreed.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

“That is how I joined the LAFD.” Buck said a little bit bruised, but fine. Sitting on a chair next to Cora’s bed.

“How did you become Buck?” Eddie asked sitting next to Cora in her bed.

Cora was trying not to laugh with her ribs rapped and ice on her jaw.

“Wait so you two are brother and sister with trickery?”

“Yeah, that was when she got the nickname Trix and she gave me the nickname Ev.”

Three days later Cora was released from hospital and was going nuts at home. She was mostly seen at the firehouse.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

[B]I know this is short but this is sort of just a filler chapter.

Chapter 4: He’s what?

Chapter Text

Chapter 4: He's what?

It was a quite day for the 118 and Bobby was using the time to catch up on paperwork.

The Chief has asked him something about Buck he didn't understand. He got in trouble when he said he didn't know what the Chief  was talking about.

That is why you can find Bobby and Cora working in Bobby's office.

Bobby making quick work of the paperwork and Cora sorting out the papers on the desk.

Bobby was filling out a form for one of the injured people when Cora found the file.

It was a file form the Navy. Bobby opened it and tried to read it. It was mostly redacted.

All he got was that one Evan Buckley was basically Navy royalty and that he is still in the reserves. They walked out to the rest of the first responders he started to talk.

"Guys we have Military Royalty in this firehouse." Buck turned pale and everyone turned to look at Eddie and Cora.

Just as they were about to respond the alarm went off calling them out to a crime scene.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Crash

As they arrived at the scene the 118 was glad to see it wasn’t a terrible crash.

It was a single car wrapped around a poll and the driver sitting calmly on the side walk talking to Athena and a blond hippy looking dude.

Hen walked closer to check up on the guy. Bobby looked at the car and saw the clear signs that the car was pushed of the road. As he talked to Athena and the other detective he found out it was foul play.

“Hi, I’m Captain Nash from the 118.” He great the guy knowing he is an agent.

“Agent Callen, NCIS. Don’t worry about this the LAPD already processed everything. Can I catch a ride with you? My partner will pick me up there.”

“Are you not going with the blond hippy?”

“Deeks, can I get a ride with you?”

“Yeah let’s go before Fern gets upset.”

The two laughed and drove off.

Clearing out they drove back to the firehouse.

“Hey, Bobby did we leave my sister alone in your office?”

The whole of the 118 turned pale and stat taking bets.

Bobby: “Clean office and the last weeks paperwork done. I know wishful thinking.” They all laughed.

Hen: “Kitchen a mess trying to cook us something.” Buck shook his head saying that Cora knows how to cook.

Chimney: “The station sparkling with her sleeping on the sofa.” Bobby replied that would not be a surprise considering it would be the third time this week. Callen started to think of his team that is his family as well.

Buck: “Sleeping on Bobby’s desk.”

Eddie: “At the dinner table with the first aid kit.”

“Why would you say that?”

“I know Cora pretty good.”

“Hen would you be so kind to play our referee? I think we can all give the man twenty dollars each. If none of us is right Cora can donate it to a charity of his choice.” Hen laughed taking the twenties like she usually do.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

At the firehouse

When they hopped out of the truck they found Cora at the Kitchen table with the first aid kit. Eddie smiled and walked up to help Cora.

“Cap, what did you do?”

“One of the idiots that work here thought that they could start something with no bosses around. I shut it down, but he got hurt. I called it in so the Chief will be hear soon.”

“So you are just cleaning your knuckles?”

“Yeah. I saw the smug look on you and the “I lost a bet look” what did you bet on?” Hen walked up to them.

“They bet on how they will find you. Eddie, I believe this is yours.”  Hen said handing over the money.

They all cleaned what they had to and restock. Cora was sitting at the table talking to one of the bosses and making a training day date so that she have a better idea about how Firefighters think. As the others slowly joined making the table vibrate with life the man left.

Eddie and Buck was bickering about the bet when Chimney asked Eddie about be Military Royalty.

“It’s not me Chim.” Eddie said shaking his head.

“Cora?”

“Not me Chim. It’s Buck, his the Royal.”

“He’s what?”

“Remember when I said we are in the presence of Military royalty? I was taking about Buck. From his great great grandfather to his father was Navy and his adopted father too.”

Buck: “Lt. Commander Evan “Daredevil” Buckley, but most called me Buck or Devil.” He said looking proud.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Cora’ POV just after the call.

I am sitting in Bobby’s office when I hears the loud noise.

Getting up from the floor I grab  my phone and follow the noise to the loft.

I see Lt. Tanner and Rhodes fighting with each other.

“Boys break it up now!”

“Why should we listen to you, girly?”

“I will cuff you if you don’t stop.”

“You and what army?” Tanner say as he try to land a hit on me.

I grab his hand twisting it behind his back, but he got out of my hold.

He lands a punch in my stomach. I double over and use some speed to knock the idiot out.

“Are you guys going to make more trouble?” They shake their heads.

“Good, move him to bunk room.”

I walked back into Bobby’s offices and look up his boss’ number to report the indecent. The Chief said that he will be there as soon as he can.

I sit down at the table with the first aid kit to clean my knuckles when the 118 crew came back. Eddie join me at the table.

‘They are so much like my unit’ I think.

The Chief walked in. We talked about what happened today and possible training. I want to understand the firehouse a bit better. I can feel it in my gut I’m going to be coming here a lot.

The Chief leave as the rest join me at the table.

Eddie and Buck are bickering about the bet.

Chimney: “Eddie are you the Military Royalty?”

“It’s not me Chim.” Eddie say and shake his head.

The three of us are laugh and see two men walk to us.

Chapter Text

Previously on The Wolf, the SEAL, and the soldier.

Cora got into a physical altercation with a firefighter and reported him to the fire chief. The team just found out about Buck when two figures walked in.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Cora moved to the bunk room to check on Tanner. She found him scrolling through his phone.

"Hi, Tanner. I'm sorry I knocked you out." Tanner's head shot up, he jumped off the bed, and he charged at her like a bull.

"Ahh come on!" she yelled while turning around. She started to run back towards the dining room hoping he would stop. Looking back, she realized he had no intention of slowing down or stopping. Quick thinking helped her gain the upper hand in the chase; she jumped over the edge of the loft and landed on her feet on the ground.

Bobby, Eddie, Buck, and Athena turned to look at the commotion.

"Hell Tanner! We just did this shit two hours ago! That's why I reported you to the Chief!"

"Because of you I may get fired!"

"You A..."

"Captain Nash who is this and what happened?" asked Police Chief Williams.

"That's Lt. Cora Daniels. She's been assigned to help with admin work. Since she's not a firefighter and she's on medical leave. She stayed back when we went on a call. Tanner here, through it would be a good idea to start a fight" was the reply Bobby supplied.

"Cap, are you okay?" asked Eddie, concern written all over his face. Sitting down, Cora let him know that she was fine and that she'll get a check-up later. Athena just smirked and commented on how trouble always seemed to find Cora and her brother.

"You said she's a Lt. ... why did Diaz call her Cap?" asked Radford

"She was a Captain back in his Army days and now she is a police Lt."

"Sargent Grant, we need Lt. Cora Daniels for the APD assignment." supplied Radford "APD requested the team who helped with the bank rescue, and given the horrific nature of the case, I'm inclined to agree that they are the best suited for the task at hand.

Eddie and Buck where fuzzing over Cora, wanting to ensure she was not badly hurt, while still listening to the conversation that was going on behind them.

"Chief Radford, if you want the trio from the bank rescue, then you're stuck with us. Evan is the crazy one, I'm the one that gets us out of whatever he gets us into, and Diaz always fixes us up."

"Well than ... Daniels, Buckley, and Diaz you are all transferring to Austin, TX. You'll be assisting on an important case there! Pack your bags." Was all the chief said before making a quick exit.

Eddie didn't want to go. He fought tooth and nail to stay in LA with Chris. Bobby assured him that Chris will be fine, and that he could stay with him and Athena at the house, in May's old room. Without giving much information about the case out, Bobby conveyed to Eddie, just how important the successful completion of this assignment was, not just for Austin and LA, but for all first responders. Intrigued, Eddie ultimately agreed to go.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

3 weeks later

The trio landed in Austin, TX after a non-eventful flight. Walking to the baggage claim they got their bag and Cora made a bee-line for the restroom to change into her work uniform. Buck and Eddie were wearing their LAFD T-shirts and jeans. While waiting for Cora to emerge from the restroom, the boys were re-reading Chief Adams' email. They were to be picked up by an officer and be transported to station 126 so they can be briefed on the case. Buck and Eddie were surprised to find that the Chief himself was their escort from the airport. Not Cora, she expected crazy stunts like this from here family, and told the boys as much, even before the flight took off in LA! Her uncle always protect his men and women even before he knew who they are.

Chapter Text

A Cowboy’s fears

After a very long day of playing desk jockey, Carlos was finally able to drive to the firehouse and pick T.K. and Paul up for a night out. They were going to the Eagle’s Nest, one of Austin’s clubs. A safe place for the LGBQ community, especially for those with jobs in the public eye.

All the first responders seek each other out. They know each other's names as well as what’s going on in their lives. Sadly tonight was not for a fun night out, but rather a gathering to mourn a lost life, a soul of their community. This was the fourth life they had lost expectantly in the past month.

Their first loss was paramedic Captain James Gibbs. He wasn’t a member, but a supporter. Than Sophia Jackson, a transgender woman and one of the best detective Carlos has ever had the pleasure of working with. Camilla Parker’s death, an out and proud lesbian firefighter followed shortly after, and now they were mourning Sam Dawson, an openly gay beat cop.

Additionally, three people who were in interracial marriages were also killed in the past month. Carlos was starting to worry if there was a serial killer loose in Austin.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

The following morning was a normal sunny day in Austin. Carlos was still feeling sad and gloomy, nevertheless, he still made it a priority to prep breakfast for his Tiger. He felt guilty for leaving T.K alone after a woeful night, but he had an early important meeting with his police Chief Adams.

The drive down to the precinct was longer than usual. Carlos’ heart pounding in his chest and mind was racing, with questions, fears, and doubts. His thoughts went to dark places – what if T.K. was next? How would Owen manage? What if Judd was next? How would T.K. cope? Or the rest of the 126? Who would tell Grace? How would she handle it?

Walking into the station he headed straight for the Chief’s office. Knocking on the door, he waited shortly for an acknowledgment, which came in the form of “Did you find anything new Officer Reyes?”

“Yes Sir. I was able to establish a pattern, the targets are non-traditional first responders. I think we all know, which house is most endangered.”

“The 126. I have an old police friend, who’s married to a fire captain. I’ll reach out to her and ask if she can get into contact with the trio that helped her with the bank robbery gone wrong.”

“Sir, I don’t want to be rude, but we need first responders, not SWAT.”

“Officer Reyes! Two firefighters and a police officer are the trio!”

“In that case, Sir, I’m going to need a partner. Preferably, one in the know about the killings, because of my relationship with T.K. Strand.”

“I’ll let keep you posted, Officer Reyes.”

“Thank you, Sir.” Carlos said as he was leaving the Chief’s office.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Carlos was on a lunch break with T.K. when the good news came in. Chief Adams let Carlos know, that the trio was on their way, with an ETA of 3 weeks. The firefighters were transferring into the 126 and the police officer was going to be Carlos partner for the foreseeable future.

Carlos smiled and looked at T.K.

“Looks like we are getting new teammates.”

Chapter Text

Police Chief Radford helped them load their gear into the car.

Cora gave Buck and Eddie each coms, she wanted to be able to be in constant communication with them.

"How do they work?" Buck asked as he was putting the device in his ear.

"They are on a secure network, which is being monitored by a friend. This way we'll be able to stay connected no matter what gets thrown our way. We should decide on our codenames now. "Cora Daniels codename Wolf checking in." They all heard a bleep.

"Evan Buckley codename, Daredevil checking in."

Bleep.

"Eddie Diaz codename Phoenix checking in."

Bleep

Once code names were assigned they also discussed how they planned on communicating with each other non-verbally; for example, they agreed to play with the strap of their watch, if they suspected anyone was stretching the truth.

Confident that they covered everything they needed to know for now, they decided to make after-work plans. Eddie suggested they go paintballing, but they didn't get a chance to solidify their plans since they were interrupted by Chief Adams who informed them that the files of their fellow 126 members were on the backseat ready to be reviewed by the trio.

Cora, Buck, and Eddie smiled like loons as soon as they looked at their respective files.

"Uncle Owen dragged TK down here." Cora said.

"My buddy Judd is down here too." Buck said.

"I'm sure I got a file meant for Cap, but my cousin Carlos is here." Eddie said looking at Cora showing her the APD file.

"So we all have family here? That will help. Wait! Buck don't you and Judd have this prank war going on?"  asked Cora suddenly.

"Yeah, I always promised him to end it when we are in the same town."

"Well, you could always hit him with ONE water balloon ."

As they were approaching their final destination, Cora asked the chief to drop them off a block away from the station. Chief Radford chuckled as they were getting out of the car requesting to please not hurt anyone with their shenanigans.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

After studying the files they quickly discussed what they were going to do. They decided that Buck and Eddie were going to sneak in through the back door. Buck was going to set up somewhere to drop the balloon on Judd. Cora was just going to walk in and unload their luggage not looking at the crew.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

The 126 was freaking out by the amount of effort the Strands put into the pranks they were planning on pulling on the unknown transfers. They even roaped Carlos and the police Chief Adams into the shenanigans - they decided to do the ol' switch-a-roo.

Adams was going to be Captain Owen Strand. Judd would pass as his son T.K. Carlos became Paul, Paul became Carlos, Mateo and Tim switched roles, T.K became Judd, and Owen assumed the role of Chief Adams. Marjan declined to partake. Going on with their normal duties Chief Radford came in dropping some bags to the floor. When he saw his crew all he could think was that the trio would fit in perfectly. Little did the 126 know that the trio had also planned to mess with them in good fun.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

5 minutes later

"This is Devil, I'm in position. Over."

"This is Phoenix, I'm in position. Over."

"Roger that boys. Over."

Cora walked into the firehouse in her uniform neat even if her hair and earrings were not. Chief Radford introduced her to the 126 as Lieutenant Daniels LAPD  and told her she was going to be Officer Reyes' temporary partner. Eddie signaled that her new partner was not Officer Carlos Reyes. They were just moving on when they heard splashes from them followed by a shout. They all turned around and saw something hit an already wet Judd's head.

"Told you I'll end you Ryder. Mwahahaha." The voice said before a thud was heard a blond, blue eyed man with a black eye swiftly dropped to the ground.

"I told you you could use ONE water balloon! ONE! You disobey one more order and I'll wring your neck!"

"Eddie, Eds, Edmundo, is she being serious?" Buck asked as a brunette man walked into the station.

"Well..." Eddie started to reply to a terrified Buck and 126 "Neah man she is joking right now... But I still wouldn't test her. Hi I'm Eddie Diaz. Nice to meet you all. " Pointing to Buck he continued "That idiot over there is Evan Buckley. We are both with LAFD."

"I'm guessing the switch-a-roo won't work." Captain Strand said.

Cora chuckled and tackled T.K. and her uncle into a bear hug.

Buck made his way over to Judd for a proper meet and greet, while Eddie walked over to Paul and Carlos.

Chief Adams walked over to the lot and welcomed the trio to Austin.

"Okay, fun's over.  Let's head up to the loft and I'll brief y'all. Members of the 126, Officer Reyes, you're off the roster for the next 3 hours, so let's get to it."

Chapter 8: Team is family

Chapter Text

They all moved to the waiting room on the second floor. Judd, Marjan, and T.K were sitting on the three-seater. Tim, Mateo, and Carlos stood behind them. Carlos knew that T.K had an anxiety tendency, so being the kind man he is, he puts his hand on the shoulder of T.K for comfort. This act made all of T.K's anxiety melt away. T.K smiled as a thank you to Carlos.

Owen and Paul won the two-seater. The chiefs were sitting in the chairs that were moved from Owen's office. The reckless trio was happy to be able to sit together, even if it means sitting in front of TK, Marjan, and Judd on the ground.

Police Chief Adams stood up, giving everybody a folder with the name First responder killer printed on it with big, bold red letters.

"Well, I'm sure you Texans know we have a serial killer on the loose. Now we are informing the 126 because your house is the best fitting for M.O. Before you ask why..."He took a deep breath "... It seems the victims were what is considered unconventional first responders by the killer. Sadly, thanks to Captain Strand, 126 is called a non-traditional house by the residence of Austin. That's why we believe one of you may be the target." Chief Radford walked up to Adams and continued the conversation.

"That's why we want you to stay together. Do you have any questions?" Only three hands raise Carlos, Eddie, and Tim. Paul looked like he figured it all out.

Chief Adams began with Carlos' question as to why he was there because he was not a part of the 126. The Chief explained that the house isn't the main reason. He continued to explain that his relationship with a man, T.K, was one of the main reasons.

“Captain Rosewater, we fear that your support and your close cooperation with 126 may make you a target. What if we didn't notify you about this? Did you think you would be in no danger if you didn't know? We also know of two victims who supported “non-traditional” first responders. We are afraid that you may be a target. Diaz, what's your question?”

“Why did you pull us to Austin to help with this? I mean Cap I get, but Buckley and I are just firefighters.”

“We pulled Lt. Daniels, Firefighters Buckley, and Diaz up here to help with this because of the job they did with the bank robbery in Los Angeles. They saved the hostages and took down the robbers as all three of them are former military. Diaz is a former Army medic he was a Staff Sergeant, Buckley is in the Naval reserves he is a Lt. Commander with the SEALs.Daniels was Diaz’s old Army Captain. So, they have the skills and training to help with this. Did I answer all your questions?” before anyone could answer, they received a three-alarm fire call.

“Okay, we can get back to this later. Go fight that fire and come back in one piece.”

🚓🚑🚒🚓🚑🚒🚓🚑🚒🚓🚑🚒🚑🚓

They arrived at a coffee roastery and coffee shop. The two officers left to help with crowd control. The 126 move to find the Captain in charge.

"Captain Burke, what happened? I just want to know what I'm sending my men into."

"One of the bags at the back caught flam setting all the other bags on fire. The fire spread from the roastery to the coffee shop as one of the beans popped onto the serving counter. The bean lit the stack of cups on fire. The sudden fire made the server panic. The on flame cups were thrown, setting the curtains on fire, causing mass panic. We still have people trapped inside. So we ... New York, who's those three?" he asked as three firefighters ran in.

"Judd who went in?" Owen asked as he tried to do a roll call.

"Looks like TK, Buck, and Diaz. Cap, I got to say your family and in-laws are crazy and reckless." He said, pointing to where Owen's niece and TK's boyfriend ran after a guy with a gun. He had burns to himself and his belongings. Owen muttered something about the Strands attracting trouble.

"Okay, 126 our reckless three idiots are in that building as well to start helping the trapped civilians. Judd and Paul you guys go in. Marjan and Mateo start fighting it from the outside." Owen said, not taking in that the news crew was shooting what he said.

Just as they were about to go in they heard that the fire was out. The radio cracked and they could all hear the call.

“Dispatch, this is officer Daniels, my partner and I are chasing a suspect on foot. We have to follow into the apartment building next to the fire. The suspect is armed and acting panicked.”

The firefighters started to spray the fire as Diaz came out with a group of six people and Paul and Judd with a group of seven. Diaz walked over to the two captains telling them that Buckley and Strand stayed behind to stop the fire from reaching the room with the chemicals in.

As Captain Burke ordered everyone to start fighting the fire. With all the manpower focused on the fire, it was quickly put out. Buck and T.K left the building tired and covered in sud. They all got ready to leave when they heard a boom.

As the dust cleared they saw the empty building next door was blown up. The firefighters were all relieved that the building was empty. Diaz and Buck turned pale and rushed to captain Strand.

“Captain Strand, Carlos and Cora are still inside,” Diaz said holding his phone.

“Captain Burke!” Owen called out “We have two officers and their suspect trapped inside.”

Meanwhile in L.A

Hen and Chimney were watching the news when they saw that in Austin there was Officer Carlos Reyes and Cora Daniels were trapped inside. They even showed their photos. They even showed the 126 and Buck and Eddie standing to the side looking freaked out and waiting for news.

“Firehouse 126 is desperately waiting for news on the officer. What we heard is that Officer Reyes is dating T.K Strand, Firefighter from the 126, and related to Eddie Diaz, firefighter 126. Officer Cora Daniels is related to Captian Owen Strand, 126, and his son T.K, 126, and Evan Buckley, 126. The 126 have been taken of the roaster as they wait for news on their family members trapped inside.” on the screen you could see Buck and Eddie standing close together near the Strand’s. They even showed the rest of the 126 standing around them as if they can protect them.

Chimney and Hen send a quick message to the boys stating their thoughts and prayers are with them.

Carlos started opening his eyes at the sound of a familiar voice. Cora was busy talking with the boys. Her radio broken in three, ranting about something called the Buckley-Strand luck.

"Hey guys, Cowboy just woke up. How do I make sure he is okay?"

Cora walked over to Carlos. She lifted his head to look for cuts. Happy that she found none. She kept giving feedback and nodded her head like she was getting orders. As she moved to set the flashlight down it shined on something metal. As she moved closer she saw that it was a trap door leading into tunnels.

"Hey Carlos, can you walk?" She asked as he tried to get up.

"Yeah, do you have a way out?"

"Down the rabbit hole we go!" She yelled dropping down. Carlos followed her down, closing the door.

They followed down the tunnel when the tunnels started to shake. Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel they ran through the light and stumbled onto the train tracks.

🚓🚑🚒🚓🚑🚒🚓🚑🚒🚓🚑🚒🚑🚓

Paul saw that Eddie was explaining something and Buck was holding and letting go of his breath. The more Eddie spoke. The only thing that bothered Paul was the hesitation with Buck's reaction. Just as Eddie started talking the building went down. Judd grabbed T.K stopping him from running to the building shouting for Carlos. He was fighting Judd trying to get to the building.

"Wolf! Respond!" Eddie's shout got the team's attention.

"Wolf, this is Devil, respond."  Buck said tears started to fill his eyes.

"Cap, say something. I love you." Eddie whispered.

Eddie blushed and Buck laughed. Their instant reaction shocked the 126. Eddie turned to them and said a few words that made them calm down, but left them with more questions than answers.

"They are okay. They are on abandoned train tracks."

The 126 turned to look at them like they are crazy

Chapter 10: The Panic

Chapter Text

Along the abandoned railroad tracks, Carlos and Cora strolled side by side. They were still on an adrenaline high. Cora couldn't get the idea of giving Carlos an earpiece out of her head. She considered him as part of the family because of how much her cousin talked about him. It didn't hurt that they were dating. She thinks he'd be a great addition to the Danger Squad. They were four in L.A. at this point, and she still had to give T.K his. Just as she was going to ask him about it, a golden light emerged at the end of the tunnel.

"I hope that's not a train," Carlos remarked, his face pale. Cora took the time to examine Carlos for any injuries, but she found none.

"Cora, Carlos!" Eddie Diaz's recognizable voice reached their ears before three individuals arrived at the tunnel's opening.

The two cops were separated as soon as they exited the tunnel, each entering into an ambulance. T.K. accompanied Carlos to his ambulance. Eddie was hovering close to Cora; he got a feeling she was in pain but didn't realize it. Buck was staring at him as if he had an additional head due to how near he was to the ambulance. Cora almost assaulted the paramedic when he touched her shoulder, proving his assumption correct.

"Cora, just relax. Let the medic leave, and I'll see what's up with your shoulder." Eddie muttered as Cora appeared bewildered. As Eddie approached, she gradually released the medic. The medic went over to Buck, who was taken aback by Cora's calm demeanour while his closest buddy completed the medical examination.

"Cap, you have a dislocated shoulder. You also appear to be suffering from a concussion. I'm going to reposition your shoulder. Are you ready?" Eddie inquires of Cora. All he got was a nod. As it snapped into place, she let out a loud yell. Eddie grinned as she yelled for them to get to the hospital.

Buck turned around to walk to the 126 when he noticed a disappointed T.K staring at the ambulance that was transporting Carlos.

"T.K, are you all right? Why aren't you with Carlos in the ambulance?" Buck inquired. T.K let out a sigh and shook his head.

"They said that I can't go with them as I'm not family," he said as Buck hugged him. T.K glanced up and saw the 126. He looked around at his squad and saw that one of them was absent.

"Can you tell me where Diaz is?" T.K questioned, his gaze fixed on Buck.

"It's funny you should ask that. Cora nearly murdered the poor medic when he examined her dislocated shoulder. She finally calmed down when Eddie spoke to her as he and the medic switched positions. A concussion was discovered, and the medic refused to get back in with her. So Eddie is now protecting them from Cora." The 126 chuckled at how true that sounded given what they knew about her.

Cora was released from the hospital with tight instructions to rest her shoulder. Buck and Eddie were both happy to learn that she had not suffered a concussion. As they exited the room, they saw a terrified T.K conversing with a Texas Ranger.

"Ty, what's the matter? Why are there so many officers in this area? "Where has Carlos gone?"

T.K's eyes welled up with tears as he shook his head and turned to face the Ranger. Faced with the Danger Trio, the Ranger held T.K against his chest.

"My name is Gabriel Reyes, and I am Carlos' father. We discovered two paramedics in an alley fifteen minutes ago. They stated that they had been kidnapped to get to Carlos. We believe it is the murderer."

Cora felt as if the world was about to go dark before she could settle down. With a solemn expression, she addressed Eddie and Buck. "You are going to meet our youngest member, Fox. I hope his supervisor will let him go."

Cora stepped away from the table to make a phone call to Fox's supervisor. The rest of the group could only observe her pacing while she chatted on the phone. They could see the genuine relief on her face as she walked to the gathering.

"He's on his way over." Mr Reyes, I simply wanted to apologize. We would have had a method to follow him if I had believed my instincts." Gabriel approached her and hugged her.

"I'm confident we'll find my son. We have a large number of people and information available to us."

Carlos woke up with one hell of a headache. Looking around him he saw that he was tied to a chair with no visible way to escape.

Just as he was about to try and break free of the chair a voice floated into the room.

"Officer Reyes, thank you for being my toy for the next week. You are hopefully the last of my kills. The perfect person to hit the APD and AFD where it hurts. The absolute injustice that is happening and the pay they caused my family. You better hope they find you soon. I don't think they will." The voice broke into laughter. The laughter sent Carlos into a dark world as pure panic took over.

Chapter 11: The sand never lay still in the desert

Chapter Text

It was the day when Hondo's team would go up against Rocker's team. A battle between Hondo and Rocker was the most recent occurrence. With the guidance of Jim Street, Honda was getting ready for the big fight. Both of them entered the ring. They started fighting, each move increasing quicker and faster until they established a comfortable rhythm for both of them. As the conflict progressed, Street's close combat abilities became increasingly obvious. Hondo stepped in for a punch that Street could easily parry, but Street became distracted just as Hondo connected, knocking a pale Street to the ground.

"Street, are you okay?" Hondo inquired, concerned about their youngest member. Street only shook his head, grabbed his bags, and dashed to Hicks' office. His teammates were taken aback.

With a knock at the door, Street entered Hicks' office. He explained what was going on and that he would require time off to assist his Texas friends. Hicks admitted to Street that he knew he was a member of team Danger. He allowed him to take time off to assist them. Hicks was asked by Street whether he could explain what was going on to Hondo. Before leaving the office, he turned to Hicks and told him to inform Hondo that sand never lies in the desert; it forms ties that are stronger than diamonds. Street walked out of the office, packing his belongings and rushing to Austin.

** ** **

For maybe the first time, the passengers boarded the plain on time. As Street settles in for his flight to Austin, he is drawn into a flashback.

** ** **

There was nothing except dunes insight in the sand that went far and wide. When everything went to hell in a handbasket, Street was with a company guarding the base's perimeter. From all sides, the base was attacked. They were having trouble getting the troop to assist in the defense of the base. Anyone who crossed over barracks immediately. The Misfits crew returned from their scouting expedition just as it appeared that all hope was lost. Street recalls the group being up to something nefarious and hazardous practically every time he sees them. They were one of the only companies with friends in every branch of the military, which didn't help matters.

Nobody knows how the misfits were able to save the base to this day. The only thing most of them remember is one of the misfits showing up, grabbing them, and pulling them to safety before disappearing.

** ** **

As the pilot stated that they were now landing in Austin, Street faded from his mind. Some sand drifts about as they disembark, landing on his shoulder. All he could think about was how true his statements to Hicks were. As soon as he walked into the building, he immediately noticed Wolf and, to his surprise, Phoenix. Their solemn expressions told him everything he needed to know.... Someone significant was lost.

Wolf smiled as he approached them. "Fox, welcome to Austin." She smiled as she greeted him.

Chapter 12: Hope

Chapter Text

The trio entered the bustling station and made their way to the back office, where the task force had set up their operations. The room was filled with firefighters, police chiefs, and one Texas ranger, their faces etched with weariness as the trio entered.

"Quite the assembly you've put together here, Wolf," Street remarked, observing their defeated expressions as they all turn to look at him.

"Shut it, Fox. It's been a tough three days," she growled in response, looking like she is one wrong move away from attaching.

"126, Chiefs, Ranger Reyes, meet the knucklehead known as Jim Street of LAPD S.W.A.T.," Alexa introduced, attempting to lighten the mood.

"Fox, long time no see, man. Thanks for coming out to Austin," Buck said, offering a faint smile.

"Well, it's not my fault we're both in L.A. and never hang out. Phoenix, good to see you again. Hi everyone. Please call me Jim, my all friends do, but to team Danger, I'm Fox. Can someone fill me in on the case?" Street inquired, eager to catch up, as he knew how it felt to lose a team member.

"It's a hate crime, Jimmy. The unsub targets anyone different, regardless of whether they're part of the community or supporting its members. Even Judd could be a target. We're about to start looking into former members who've fallen from grace and their families. We need a fresh perspective," explained wolf as she dragged her hand over her face. This was a normally a sign that she was losing hope.

They immersed themselves in the evidence and potential suspects for the next couple of hours until Buck stood up.

"I'm going on a coffee run. What, can I have everyone's orders?" he offered, as hands shot up around the office.

Buck jotted down the orders and made his way out. As he walked down the street, a mysterious figure emerged from the shadows, halting his steps. The man's voice was a low growl and cryptic: "If you seek answers about the missing officer, look at the other victims."

Buck made sure to remember everything he could see in the short time. The low growl that's usually from chain-smoking, the striking blue eyes, the mop of brown hair. He was sure there was a bit of a uniform peaking out of the heavy black overcoat.

As Buck stepped into the cosy little coffee shop nestled in the heart of Austin, a wave of comforting aromas enveloped him. The air was rich with the scent of freshly roasted coffee beans and the warm, sweet notes of pastries and baked goods. The rustic wooden interior ooze out a laid-back charm, with exposed brick walls adorned with local artwork and shelves lined with jars of artisanal coffee blends.

The friendly chatter of customers filled the air, mingling with the soothing melodies of acoustic guitar music playing softly in the background. Soft lighting bathed the space, creating an inviting ambiance for patrons seeking a break from their busy and stressful lives.

Behind the worn wooden counter, baristas with friendly smiles expertly crafted each beverage with precision and care. The menu boasted an impressive array of coffee options, from classic espresso drinks to unique seasonal blends, each lovingly prepared to perfection. The glass display case showcased an assortment of freshly baked muffins, scones, and flaky croissants, tempting anyone with a craving for a delightful accompaniment to their drink. All this was missed by Buck as he typed on a Word document all the details he remembered.

As Buck approached the counter, finally taking the ambiance of the shop, he couldn't help but feel a sense of familiarity and comfort in this little corner of Austin. The Live oak was so reminiscent of the Wild flower that he and Eddie frequents in LA. A coffee shop that was a haven where locals gathered to fuel their mornings, engage in lively conversations, or find solace in a quiet corner with a good book. It was a place that embodied the city's vibrant spirit and the warm hospitality that defined Austin's unique charm.

Buck placed the team's order with the barista. He knew if this shop was anything like the one back home, his team's caffeine cravings would be met and the sandwiched would give them the added energy to get through this last stretch of the day.

Leaving the coffee shop with a takeaway tray of steaming cups and a paper bag with sandwiches, Buck felt a renewed sense of purpose and camaraderie. The small coffee shop had not only served as a pit stop for refreshment,Buck missed all this but also as a reminder of the vibrant community they were fighting to protect. A much-needed reminder that even in the face of darkness, there was always a reason to fight.

Buck made his way back up the street, thinking just how oblivions the people of the city were towards their efforts to not only stop the killer, but to find their friend and family member. The whole walk back, the words of the man kept on playing in his head. What others was he talking about?

Chapter 13: The new thread

Chapter Text

Buck's mind raced as he replayed the encounter repeatedly, fixating on the image of the uniform piece he was certain he'd seen. The man he'd crossed paths with exuded an air of military discipline, as if constantly prepared for a confrontation.

Placing the drinks on the table, Buck cleared his throat and directed his attention to the room's occupants.

"Listen up, everyone. How confident are we that the individuals on that board represent the full extent of the victims? I'm beginning to wonder if there's more to this than meets the eye," Buck began, his tone a mixture of contemplation and frustration. He'd just experienced an unsettling encounter with someone who seemed privy to information beyond their grasp. "I had an odd run in with a man who seemed to have access to knowledge we don't have. He hinted that we should expand our investigation to include his other victims." Buck's voice trailed off as he shook his head, perplexed by the situation he found himself in. Raising his gaze, he met the expectant stares of his colleagues, all hoping for a breakthrough.

"Buckley," Chief Radford's voice cut through the room, "I need the precise location of this encounter. After that, you're heading straight to the sketch artist. You've handed us the most promising lead we've had in days." The chief's expression was a mixture of urgency and relief, a testament to the significance of the information Buck had stumbled upon.

Buckley nodded in acknowledgment of Chief Radford's directive. "Understood, Chief," he replied, his determination evident in his voice. He quickly retrieved his phone and began typing out the details of the encounter's location, his fingers tapping with a sense of urgency.

As he finished sending the information to the chief, he felt a renewed surge of purpose. This was the breakthrough they had all been waiting for. With a newfound resolve, he made his way to the artist's room, where he would provide as detailed a description as possible of the man he'd encountered. He knew that capturing every nuance and feature would be crucial in creating an accurate composite sketch.

Sitting down with the sketch artist, Buck recounted the encounter with meticulous attention to detail. He described the man's piercing eyes, the distinct scar on his right cheek, and the air of authority he carried. The artist diligently translated Buck's words into lines and shadows, crafting an image that began to take shape on the paper before them.

As the sketch materialized, Buck's heart raced. This was the face of the man who held the answers they needed. This was the face that could potentially lead them to more victims, to the heart of the mystery that had consumed their efforts for days.

With the sketch complete, Buck returned to the rest of the team. He held up the drawing, a mix of anticipation and hope in his eyes. "This is him. This is the guy we need to find," he declared, his voice firm and resolute. The room buzzed with a renewed energy, a sense of unity fueled by the prospect of finally gaining ground in the investigation.

Chief Radford examined the sketch closely, nodding in approval. "Good work, Buckley. Now let's get this out to every officer in the field. We're not wasting a moment." The chief's orders echoed the urgency that permeated the room, setting the wheels in motion for a citywide effort to locate the man in the sketch.

Buck's encounter, once a source of confusion, had now become a turning point in the investigation. It was a reminder that sometimes the most unexpected encounters could hold the keys to unraveling the deepest mysteries. With a shared determination, the team rallied around their new lead, ready to follow it wherever it might take them. All they could hope for was that it led to officer Calos Reyes.

Chapter 14: Pursuit of Shadows

Chapter Text

The task force's headquarters buzzed with activity as officers and firefighters hurriedly gathered around large maps and digital screens displaying the composite sketch of the suspect. The room emitted an air of caution, yet urgency.

Buck leaned over the table, his eyes fixed on the sketch as he discussed strategy with Wolf and Phoenix. "We need every officer and fire Captain out there to be on the lookout for this guy. We can't afford to miss any potential leads."

Wolf nodded in agreement. "We'll coordinate with the local precincts and firehouses to make sure everyone is aware of the suspect's description. We need to warn the Captains as well, the uniform Devil saw might be a medic or firefighter. Patrols will be increased in areas with the highest likelihood of encountering him. I still agree with Ranger Reyes that it is in the abandoned warehouse."

As officers filtered out of the room to execute their assignments, Buck took a deep breath, his mind focused on the task ahead. He couldn't shake off the encounter he had earlier—the cryptic warnings and the undeniable air of authority the suspect exuded.

In the field, officers worked tirelessly, questioning witnesses, reviewing surveillance footage, and conducting searches. Every alley, street corner, and park became a potential hunting ground, as they combed through the city in search of the shadowy figure.

As the hours stretched on, the team's determination grew, but so did the pressure. Every sighting that turned out to be a false lead added to their frustration. Buck's phone buzzed incessantly with updates, but none brought them any closer to finding Carlos.

One evening, as the sun set over Austin, Buck and Wolf sat in their unmarked car, analyzing the latest batch of tips. "We're getting nowhere fast," Buck muttered, rubbing his temples.

Wolf sighed, her gaze fixed on the sketch. "We have to keep at it. We owe it to Carlos and the other victims."

Their radios crackled to life as Phoenix's voice came through. "Guys, we might have something. There's been a sighting of a man matching the description near the warehouse district. I'm sending you the coordinates."

Buck's heart raced as he typed the coordinates into the car's GPS. They exchanged a determined look and sped off towards the designated location.

Arriving at the dimly lit warehouse district, Buck and Wolf cautiously stepped out of the car. Their flashlights cut through the darkness as they moved stealthily, scanning their surroundings. The tension was palpable—a sense that they were on the cusp of a breakthrough.

As they rounded a corner, their flashlights illuminated a figure standing near a stack of crates. Buck's heart skipped a beat—it was the man from the sketch. The suspect's piercing blue eyes locked onto theirs, and he tensed, ready to bolt.

"Police! Freeze!" Buck's voice echoed through the night, his gun trained on the suspect.

The man hesitated for a moment, then raised his hands in surrender. Buck and Wolf closed in, their adrenaline pumping as they apprehended him without incident.

Back at the precinct, the suspect was brought in for interrogation. Buck and Wolf stared at him from across the one-way mirror, their expressions a mix of anticipation and resolve.

"You ready for this?" Wolf asked, her voice steady.

Buck nodded, his gaze unwavering. "We have to find out what he knows. We have to find Carlos."

As the door to the interrogation room closed, the tension in the air was palpable. The suspect's revelations could hold the key to Carlos's whereabouts, and the team's relentless pursuit of the truth was about to reach its critical juncture.

Chapter 15: The Reunion

Chapter Text

Exhaustion weighed heavily on Wolf and Buck as they tirelessly interrogated their suspect, each passing hour without yielding any breakthrough. Finally conceding to their fatigue, they decided to take a breather, shoulders slumping in shared defeat as they trudged toward their office, preparing to share the disappointing outcome with the rest of the group.

As they began formulating Plan B, the station erupted with a cacophony, echoing urgent orders and heightened tension. Amidst the chaos, a voice cut through the noise like a beacon – "Carlos!" The team stood as if they shared one mind. They marched to the source of the shout.

Amid the turmoil, the chief's stern gaze fixated on Reyes, demanding an immediate explanation. Wearing a wry smile, Carlos Reyes began recounting his daring escape, the tale unfolding with a determination that left even seasoned officers in awe. The adrenaline-fuelled atmosphere settled into a hushed silence as the team gathered around, absorbing the details of his audacious getaway.

During the debrief, Wolf and Buck exchanged knowing glances, a realization dawning that their failed interrogation might have inadvertently played a role in Carlos's cunning escape. The tension in the room transformed into a shared sense of camaraderie, the team recognizing the imperative to regroup and revise their strategy. Not far away, Ranger Reyes stood, his expression radiating pride at the resourcefulness displayed by his son.

The chief, a mixture of exasperation and relief, refocused the team on the imminent threat – the elusive killer still at large. The air crackled with renewed determination as they collaboratively brainstormed a revised plan, weaving together their collective expertise.

In a quiet corner, Carlos couldn't suppress a grin at the camaraderie he had missed during his capture. The chief, catching his expression, acknowledged, "Looks like you brought more than yourself back, Reyes. We'll need every ounce of that resourcefulness to catch this killer."

Carlos, with a mischievous glint, interjected, "About that Chief. I may have dropped a little something first in the holding cells," leading the team toward the cells with a cryptic anticipation hanging in the air.

“I watched them and plotted my escape. Last night I executed my plan. I captured this guy and left the rest locked in the container I was held in.” Carlos started his whole story.

As Carlos recounted the details of his escape and subsequent capture of the suspect, the team listened in rapt attention, their admiration for his resourcefulness growing with each word. Wolf and Buck exchanged a glance, a newfound respect for Carlos evident in their expressions. Despite their initial setback, they now saw Carlos in a different light – not just as a detainee, but as a valuable ally in their pursuit of justice.

The chief's exasperation melted into grudging admiration as Carlos revealed his clever tactics. "Well, I'll be damned," the chief muttered, a begrudging smirk tugging at the corners of his lips. "Looks like we've got ourselves a real wild card here."

With the mystery of Carlos's disappearance solved and a suspect in custody, the atmosphere in the station shifted from tension to determination. The team rallied around Carlos, their camaraderie stronger than ever as they prepared to face the challenges ahead.

As they filed out of the room to investigate Carlos's lead, the chief clapped a hand on Carlos's shoulder, his gaze full of respect. "You may have just turned the tide for us, Reyes," he said gruffly. "Let's make sure we use that resourcefulness to bring this killer to justice."

Chapter 16: The Final Confrontation

Chapter Text

The Austin night was still and heavy with anticipation as the team, now reinvigorated and unified by their recent successes, gathered at the edge of the abandoned warehouse district. The once dimly lit area now buzzed with activity, illuminated by a sea of flashlights and police cars. Every officer, firefighter, and member of the task force was on high alert.

Carlos Reyes, despite his recent ordeal, stood at the forefront with a steely resolve. His close brush with the killer had only deepened his determination. Beside him were Buck and Wolf, their expressions a mix of focus and readiness. The sketch and Carlos’s descriptions had led them here, to what they hoped would be the final confrontation with the elusive murderer.

Ranger Reyes, having been a key player in coordinating the search, was stationed at a command post with other senior officers. His pride in his son was evident, but so was his intense focus on the operation at hand.

The team’s strategy was clear: they would conduct a methodical sweep of the warehouses, ensuring every possible hiding spot was covered. The warehouse district, with its maze of crumbling buildings and shadowy corners, posed a significant challenge, but the team was prepared.

As they entered the first warehouse, the creaking floorboards and distant echoes of dripping water added an eerie backdrop to their search. The atmosphere was tense, each member of the team acutely aware of the potential danger that lay ahead.

"Stay sharp," Buck instructed, his voice low but firm. "We know he's here somewhere. We need to be methodical."

Wolf nodded, her flashlight cutting through the darkness as she moved forward, her eyes scanning every nook and cranny. Carlos was close behind, his senses heightened by his recent escape. They moved with practiced precision, covering ground as they proceeded through the abandoned buildings.

Hours passed with no sign of the suspect. Frustration began to mount as the team pressed on, their search turning up nothing but empty rooms and discarded debris. The tension was palpable, each creak and rustle amplifying their nerves.

Just when hope seemed to wane, Carlos, leading a small group, heard a faint sound—a muffled thud followed by a low, frantic noise. His heart raced as he motioned for the team to follow him towards the sound.

They approached a derelict warehouse on the far end of the district. The building, more decrepit than the others, seemed to emit an unsettling aura. Carlos, Buck, and Wolf carefully approached the entrance, their breaths coming in shallow bursts of anticipation.

Buck carefully pried open a creaky door, revealing a dimly lit interior. Inside, they found a scene that made their hearts drop. The warehouse was set up as a makeshift hideout, complete with surveillance monitors and various weapons. On one of the monitors, the team saw a live feed of the nearby streets—a disturbing reminder of how close the killer had been.

But what captured their immediate attention was the figure bound and unconscious on the floor—the very person they had been searching for. It was Carlos's fellow officer, missing for weeks, now tied up and in obvious distress.

The sound of footsteps echoed through the warehouse as the killer appeared, his face concealed by a dark mask. His piercing blue eyes, however, were unmistakable—an unnerving reminder of Buck's earlier encounter.

The team sprang into action. "Police! Drop your weapon!" Buck shouted, his voice echoing through the cavernous space. The suspect, momentarily stunned, raised his hands but quickly reached for a hidden knife, aiming to resist capture.

A tense standoff ensued. The killer, desperate and dangerous, lunged towards the team. Buck and Wolf, expertly trained and unflinching, engaged the suspect, their movements fluid and decisive. Carlos, freed from the shock of the situation, assisted with a practiced precision.

The confrontation was intense, but the team's coordination proved too much for the suspect. Within moments, they had subdued him, handcuffing him with a sense of grim satisfaction. The warehouse, once a place of terror, was now under control.

As they checked on their fellow officer, now safely untied and regaining consciousness, relief washed over the team. The killer, now in custody, was finally out of the picture.

Back at the command post, the atmosphere was one of cautious celebration. The task force had succeeded in their mission, their combined efforts bringing the killer to justice. Carlos, now reunited with his team, shared a look of gratitude and camaraderie with Buck and Wolf.

Ranger Reyes approached his son, pride evident in his eyes. "You did good, Carlos. You and your team brought this to an end."

Carlos, his face reflecting exhaustion and relief, nodded. "It was a team effort. Couldn’t have done it without everyone here."

The city of Austin, despite the shadows that had loomed over it, could now breathe a little easier. The killer had been apprehended, and justice was served. The task force, bonded by their shared struggle, knew that their work had made a real difference.

As dawn broke over the warehouse district, the team gathered together, their resolve stronger than ever. They had faced darkness and emerged victorious, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead with unwavering determination and unity.
