Chapter Text
The walk to and from the hospital bed and bathroom took more effort than Lena liked to admit, not to mention was a bit painful, even with the help of her mom and nurse. She was allowed to take a small shower after waking up from her nap, washed off the gunk still on her body, then came back out to find her mam and Kara holding the babies and she smiled, remembering back to when she had Léa. She’d woken up to Ruby sitting next to her, Sam and her daughter had thought to use their phones to video chat in order for Lena to see her baby in the NICU.
The couple had discreetly filled out the birth certificates, smiling because Léa would be excited that her siblings were here for Christmas, not letting Lillian or Lizzie see the babies' names before they could announce them to everyone else. As soon as she was settled back into the bed, her baby boy was brought over, small whimpers expelling from his mouth.
“I think the little man is hungry and sadly, my boobs don’t work for him.” Kara grinned.
Lena just shook her head, chuckling at the blonde. “Bring the pillow over, I can feed them both that way they won’t fuss when everyone else comes to see them.”
Her mother had purchased a nursing pillow that wrapped around Lena’s torso so it could support both her arms and the babies, and although most might say it was a pointless purchase, it made duel feeding so much easier. After a couple of failed attempts, baby boy latched onto her breast then her mam brought baby girl over. The sensation of both her nipples being sucked on felt strange but the brunette smiled, Lena never thought she’d experience getting to breastfeed again, she’d almost forgotten how it felt.
Twenty minutes later, both babies were fed, burped, in fresh diapers, and asleep while Lillian went to get the rest of their family, Léa’s excited voice could be heard from the hallway but she heard her mother telling her she had to be quiet since her siblings were sleeping.
Their little girl bounded over to Kara who picked her up. “Where the babies?”
Lena pointed to the two cribs next to her and everybody crowded around them, cooing at the little bundles. Hugs and congratulations were given, Alex having already snatched up her daughter and Eliza had her son when her best friend turned to her.
“Alright, Kieran, out with it.” Sam mock scowled.
She just rolled her eyes, glancing at her love who was smiling. “Okay, okay.” She resituated herself, holding her arms out for Léa, helping the girl settle next to her, dragging out the reveal of the twins’ names. “As you all know, Léa and I are huge bookworms-”
Sam snickered. “That’s an understatement. Her apartment in Metropolis had books on every available surface.”
Lena shot her a look. “Anyway, we were talking about names, none of the girl names we’d found seemed to fit when Léa came in and said she couldn’t find one of her new favourite books, ‘My name is Nicole’. After we found it, the name stuck with me. Then I started bouncing names around in my head, trying to find a name that went with Nicole when I remembered that one of my favourite novels, ‘Rebecca’ by Jane Austen. Kara agreed that the names were cute together but she liked it the other way around, then one of the suggestions from Alex caught my attention as well, so we would like you to meet little Olivia Rebecca Nicole Luthor-Danvers.”
Alex cooed at the bundle of purple in her arms. “Hello, little Olivia. Wait,” The redhead glanced at the couple, a questioning look on her face. “Are you gonna call her Olivia, or is she gonna go by a nickname?”
Lena nodded at her daughter to go ahead and provide the nickname their little girl had chosen. “Libby!”
“We love the name Olivia, but once Léa offhandedly said Libby when she was talking to the babies, it stuck.” Kara explained, running her fingers through the tiny brunette’s hair. “Not saying that she can’t change it when she’s older if she wants.”
“Little Libby, it’s perfect.” Lillian said, softly stroking her finger down the baby’s cheek. “Now, what about my grandson?”
The brunette smirked mischievously.
“It’s another book reference, isn’t it?” Sam asked, shaking her head.
“The middle name is, the first name is to sort of keep the ‘L’ tradition going, Kara’s favourite author from when she first arrived was Leigh Brackett who wrote Science Fiction and we both agreed that Leigh was adorable. Not to mention it went perfectly with the name Léa suggested. She’s recently been obsessed with the Disney Channel movie ‘Descendants’, more specifically the boy who plays Carlos, Cameron Boyce.” Lena took a breath, smiling. “You met little Libby, now meet little Leo Cameron Leigh Luthor-Danvers.”
Everyone fawned over the names as the babies were passed around, Alex reluctantly handing over Libby to Eliza with a dreamy look on her face. Kara and Lena shared a look, grinning. They knew that look, and Kara was already preparing how she would brooch the subject with her sister.
*******
Lena and the babies were released from the hospital the next day, Clarke wishing them good luck as she walked the couple downstairs where Lillian was waiting with the car. Lena, who was instructed to sit in the wheelchair, shook her head. They’d told her mother that they could get home on their own but it seemed the Luthor matriarch had other ideas, but as exhausted as she was, the brunette couldn’t help but smile. Her mother was taking being a grandmother to a whole new level, not to mention she felt guilty for having missed out when Léa was born.
Leo and Libby were nestled in her arms, snoozing away with their little mouths sucking on their pacifiers. As cliche as it is, they were perfect. Nobody knew who they would look like more, Kara wanted them both to have Lena’s emerald eyes but the brunette wanted them to have Kara’s gorgeous blue eyes, it would take a few months before their eye colour solidified, and baby hair usually always fell out before growing back full force, Léa’s hair didn’t fully grow in until she was almost two. So far little Libby had tufts of dirty blonde hair and Leo had no hair at all really.
When they arrived at the car, Kara carefully lifted both babies from her arms, handing one to Lillian so they could buckle them in before the blonde rushed back to her love and carried her as well, much to Lena’s protests.
“You are still recovering from pushing our babies from your body while I just stood by and did nothing, let me pamper you.” The pout on her adorable face cracked Lena’s resolve and she nodded.
But despite having pushed two babies weighing almost six pounds each out of a very small hole in her body, she felt fine. After she had Léa, she could barely move without her vagina radiating pain, obviously, she was more prepared now by wearing disposable underwear covered in cooling gel and aloe vera to help. She was a bit skeptical about them, thinking Kara would see her as weird or something, but the blonde simply smiled and then even offered to help her put them on after her shower as if she could fall more in love with Kara.
The drive home was relatively silent, Lena sitting in the backseat with the babies, watching over them as they slept. When they got to the house, however, dozens of news organizations and paparazzi stood at the end of the driveway with their cameras flashing, and was thankful she had the foresight to have a privacy fence installed. She felt the panic rising in her, she knew something like this would happen, she just knew it.
But before Lena could completely freak out, Kara nodded at Lillian and they drove around the block where she got out and pulled her glasses off to reveal her Supergirl suit. She leaned between the front seats to give Lena a brief kiss then flew off without a word.
“Mom? What’s going on?” She asked.
Lillian smiled. “Your brilliant fiancé foresaw this happening so she and J’onn came up with a plan to distract the cameras long enough to get you guys inside.”
When the older woman received a message on her phone just as Leo started to fuss, they quickly drove back to the house where the camera crews and everyone was gone and Alex stood in front of the porch with her phone up to her ear. When the redhead saw them she grinned, said something into the phone, then hung up and rushed over to help. Leo was now full on making his displeasure known to the world which resulted in him waking his sister.
“Come on, we got an area already set up for you to feed them and Kara will be back in a few minutes.” Alex, with Libby’s carrier on one arm, helped Lena into the house.
Once the brunette was inside and the door closed she could feel tears welling in her eyes. The couch had been transformed into a small nest with blankets and pillows along with the bassinets for the twins, and the coffee table had been moved back a bit to make room for a cart that held necessary baby supplies so Lena wouldn’t have to constantly get up, it wasn’t much and her hormones were still playing with her, but it was enough to make her hug the redhead.
“Thank you,” she whispered when a whoosh of air made the hair that had fallen from her bun fly into her face. Lena felt Kara wrap her arms around her waist and press a kiss to her temple.
“Let’s get you settled, our son doesn’t seem too happy about being ignored.” True enough, Leo’s cries grew louder until both he and Libby were latched onto Lena’s breasts.
“We have Léa tonight and tomorrow, she and Esme can’t wait to have a sleepover, then Sam will pick her up and keep her for the rest of the week so you two can get accustomed to having newborns,” Alex told her, sitting on the coffee table in front of the couple. She smiled down at the babies. “No need to worry about anything other than yourselves and them, we’ll also have Léa call every night before bed and every morning before school.”
“Thank you, Alex, but you don’t-”
“Don’t have to? Yeah, not gonna happen, but it was a good thought!” she clapped her hands against her thighs then stood. “I should get going, good luck, and let any of us know if you need anything. Oh! Christmas dinner is taken care of, we’ll all be here around noon with the food and presents so you don’t have to drag them out.”
They said their goodbyes, Lillian walking Alex out before returning. “I’ll cook dinner tonight, what would you like?”
Lena was going to protest but the look on her mom’s face told her to let her do this, so instead, she thought about it. “As weird and boring as it sounds, I’m actually craving just spaghetti covered in parmesan cheese with cheesy garlic bread.”
“Spaghetti it is!” Lillian exclaimed, walking towards the kitchen.
“Mom, Kara can make it-”
“Lena, dear, I do know how to cook. Just because we had chefs doesn’t mean anything, Lionel forbade me from cooking when we married but I never forgot how. Spaghetti is a perfect first dinner home, Kara can sit with you and the twins.”
Lena just balked at her mom’s retreating form when she felt one baby unlatch. Leo had a milk-drunk look on his face as Kara took him to burp while Lena burped Libby, who had unlatched as well. They were both asleep again when the brunette winced.
“What’s wrong?” Kara asked, instantly looking her over.
“Nothing, they just didn’t eat a lot and I’m still engorged.” As if to prove her point, milk dripped from her nipple into the nursing bra.
“I’ll fetch the pump, be right back.” The blonde kissed her cheek then sped off only to immediately return with the contraption in her hands. “I don’t exactly know how to…”
Lena just chuckled, reaching for it. “Let me show you.” She demonstrated how to set everything up, laughing at the befuddled look on Kara’s face once she had the cups attached to her breasts. The pump she had for when she went back to work would just sit in her bra and had no wires but Lena found she liked the wire one for when she was home. “It doesn’t hurt, well, not a lot.”
“What does it feel like?”
“Any analogy I’d use you wouldn’t understand.” Lena sighed. “Did you ever get a splinter on Krypton? Or have to pull a thorn from your foot or something?”
Kara thought for a second then nodded. “When I was eight my aunt Astra and I were playing in the garden, I went to hide behind my mother’s flower bush and forgot about the thorns.” she cringed at the memory and pulled off her sock then lifted her foot to show a scar that was easily three inched long on the sole of it.
“Jesus! How big were these thorns?” Lena gingerly touched the raised skin, marveling at how just as the scar on Kara’s forehead, the yellow sun hadn’t healed them.
“The Orchis Italica was my mother’s prized flower, it was beautiful but the thorns surrounding it could be anywhere from one inch long up to five inches long, not to mention it had tiny spikes. Astra rushed me to the doctor and had to hold me down as they pulled it out.” The blonde smiled sadly when she said her aunt’s name.
“Did you feel relief once it was gone?” Kara nodded. “Well, that’s kinda what this feels like.” Blue eyes widened. “Not the spikey thorn part! The relief you feel once it’s gone, it still hurts but not as much. It’s a good pain.”
As the cups started to fill, Lena gently pushed on the top of each breast, making sure it got everything for now, then gently got up from the couch. She paddled into the kitchen with Kara staying behind, seeing her mom by the stove in an apron made her smile. It all seemed so domestic. Like her childhood never happened and this was the mom she grew up with.
“Oh!” Lillian jumped when she turned around, her hand over her chest. “You scared me.”
“I do live here.” The side of her mouth quirked up. “Sorry, but I’m just here for the milk bags.” She went over to the draw she had prepped weeks ago, being careful as she detached each pump, wrote the date at the top of each bag then measured out six ounces for each, ending up with four full bags that she put into the freezer.
*******
The next week was rough for the couple, Lena knew what to expect with newborns but Kara was completely out of her element, even for Supergirl. J’onn had been taking care of all Supergirl emergencies for her, but Kara thought dealing with a rogue alien was better than the bombs her son was leaving in his diapers. The first time she went to change a diaper, Lena had to refrain from recording her reaction to the smell Leo left behind, not to mention having to dodge the pee he let loose. The blonde learned real quick to cover him with a small clothe until he had a diaper put back on.
It was Christmas Eve and Kara had just finished reading a bedtime story to Léa when her little girl asked her something that made her stop in her tracks.
“Mommy, is Santa Claus real?” her tiny voice sounded unsure.
Kara turned around, walking back to her bed and crouching next to her. “Of course he is. Did someone tell you he wasn’t?”
Léa looked down, nodding. “A boy at my school said Santa wasn’t real and I was a baby for believing in him.” she had tears in her big green eyes.
“How old was this boy?”
“He’s a fourth grader, Harrison Carmicheal.”
Kara swore under her breath. Of course, the kid was a Carmicheal, that family just couldn’t leave her loved ones alone. “Well, if he doesn’t believe in Santa then I guess Santa won’t be by visiting him tonight, will he? Now, you better go to sleep so Santa can deliver you and your little brother and sister presents.”
Léa smiled, her eyes lighting up. “Okay, night mommy, love you.”
“I love you too, little one.” Kara pressed a kiss to her forehead one last time then shut her door and made her way quietly down the stairs to where Lena was finishing wrapping the last of the presents with a baby latched onto her breast. She stopped, entranced by her love and the pure talent it took to fold and tape wrapping paper over a box with a small baby feeding.
“Hello, my darling.” Lena’s voice broke her from her trance. “Is she asleep?”
Kara listened for a second. “Almost, but you’ll never believe what she told me.” She let out a breath as she sat on the floor, reaching to take Libby who’d finished eating. “Some kid at her school told her that Santa wasn’t real and she was a baby for believing in him.”
“What?” The brunette was outraged.
“That’s not all, the kid was Harrison Carmicheal.” Resignation crossed over Lena’s face. “Yep. That was my reaction too.”
Lena shook her head, going back to the present she was wrapping. “That family I swear, but you know his wife is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. Which is why I will never understand why she chose to stay with a dick like him. I mean, look how he is raising their son.”
“Lena! There are little ears around!” Kara exclaimed, trying to cover Libby’s head.
The brunette rolled her eyes. “Please, I’m pretty sure they heard worse when I was still pregnant and you and I-”
“Okay, okay!” Kara conceded causing Lena to chuckle at her antics.
The couple chatted more as they put all the presents under the tree, switching topics to something happier like the fact that they may have gone a little overboard this year with the children’s presents, both from them and from Santa, but it was their first Christmas together as a couple and with their kids so they were able to use that as an excuse to indulge this year. It still made Lena pause and pinch herself sometimes when she thought about how much her life had changed in the last year and a half. First, she and Kara declared their love for each other, everyone found out about her daughter, she defeated Lex once and for all, she and Kara decided to expand their family, she found out her birth mother was alive and that her mother and she were witches. But the most memorable part was the fact that she finally found her family, a family that loved and accepted her unconditionally.
*******
The next morning Léa woke them up by crawling into bed with them around sunrise, her excitement palpable. Lena rolled over, pulling her closer to snuggle. “Just a few more hours of sleep, baby. Mama and mommy are exhausted.”
The little girl was bummed but nodded anyway. “Okay, mama.”
When they woke up a second time it was closer to nine and the babies were crying, Lena sat up and pulled their bassinet closer so she could feed them when Kara awoke as well, leaving a sleeping Léa sprawled between them and they smiled.
“I’ll go get breakfast started,” Kara stood from the bed, walking around it for a kiss. “Merry Christmas, love.”
The brunette smiled widely. “Merry Christmas, darling.”
While Kara got everything ready downstairs, Lena fed the twins, burped and changed their diapers before putting them in the outfits they found that both said ‘My First Christmas’ on the fronts with tiny Santa hats. She was just pulling on her own clothes, a black knitted dress with stockings, when Léa woke, her hair sticking up like Einstein.
“Did Santa come?” she asked, rubbing her eyes.
Lena grinned. “Why don’t you go get ready then we’ll go see, yeah?” The little girl rushed from the room, her grogginess nowhere in sight, and Lena couldn’t help the chuckle she let out. Making sure the twins were still sleeping, she went to do her hair and makeup, keeping everything simple. Léa walked in ten minutes later wearing the dress they got her with her brush in her hand. “Do you need help?”
Her small head nodded, not surprising her mama in any way with all the knots in her curls. Lena lifted her onto the counter and sprayed her daughter's hair with detangler, being careful as she brushed until all the knots were out and her curls were bouncing with a bow holding it out of her face.
“Alright, let's go see if Santa came.” Lena helped her down then went to scoop up the twins. They made their way downstairs, Léa making sure her mama didn’t fall when the little girl squealed. The tree was bombarded by presents. She looked up at her mama who nodded before running over to check them out while Lena put the babies in their bassinets in the kitchen to help Kara who was pulling the cinnamon rolls from the oven. Léa made sure only to look at the presents and not touch them, but she was bouncing on her toes. She and Léa usually wore their pajamas and opened presents right when they woke up, but since Lena knew their family would be here soon she had them all get dressed first so it’d be easier than pulling Léa away from her new toys. They ate the cinnamon rolls together, their little girl going on and on about not being able to wait for everyone to arrive, especially Esme who was her best friend.
They were all gathered on the rug in a circle with the twins in the middle, watching them as they gurgled and cooed while they wiggled around with the cartoon version ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ playing when the doorbell rang and Léa instantly jumped up. Her curls bounced as she ran for the door with Kara on her tail, they opened the door and Léa squealed when she saw that her dress matched with her cousin’s. Alex and Kelly had their arms full of presents which had Kara rolling her eyes.
“We told you guys you didn’t have to get a lot of stuff, the tree is overflowing as is.” The blonde gathered a few of the gifts as she ushered them inside, mouthing that it was all Lena’s fault and making the couple chuckle.
Alex set the gifts down, rubbing her hands together. “Alright, now where are my baby niece and nephew?”
Kara shook her head, pointing towards the living room. “They’re with Lena, but are probably going down soon so get all the cuddles you can.” The redhead didn’t need to be told twice, she basically ran off leaving her wife with Kara, the two of them laughing. “You’d think she hasn’t been visiting us for the past week to see them.” The blonde started walking away when she noticed Kelly was still standing in the foyer, a nervous look on her face. “Kel, you okay?”
She nodded. “Yeah, yeah, it’s just…Alex has been talking more and more about another kid, and don’t get me wrong, I love Esme with all my heart, but I don’t know if I want more kids. Not to mention being black and a lesbian makes it harder to adopt, we got Esme because nobody else would take her.”
“Kelly, I had no idea…” Kara took a breath, checking over her shoulder to make sure no little ears were listening. “Before you guys adopted Esme and Lena was still pregnant we got into a small argument and I went to the DEO where Alex met me, she seemed angry but refused to talk. We spared for a bit until I finally got it out of her, she mentioned Joey and Esme and how you wanted to adopt her but Alex was unsure. Before all of this happened she applied to become a foster mom to infants but then everything went down and she forgot about it until you said something about adopting, she freaked out thinking she wasn’t going to be a good mother when I knew the exact opposite.” Kara smiled a little. “When I first arrived we didn’t get along all that well, but one night a storm came through and I was crying because it was so loud when I suddenly felt arms wrapping tightly around me. She had heard me crying and without thinking, she started to sing a song to distract me, that was the first time I knew she would be an amazing mom. But with you, I knew from the moment we met that you would be too. If Esme is all you want, that’s okay, Alex will understand. Just don’t shut your feelings down and go along with her, that’s exactly what Maggie did and it killed Alex when everything ended. Talk with her.”
With that Kara brought the presents into the living room where she saw Alex laying on the floor with Libby next to her and she smiled.
It didn’t take long for Sam and Ruby to arrive then Nia and Brainy, then the next thing the couple knew all of their family were there and the house was filled with laughter and love. Lena was coming down the stairs from putting the twins down, they’d had a small photoshoot with everyone until they started to fuss so she fed and put them down. Kara met her at the bottom of the stairs, wrapping her arms around her waist and dipping to press a kiss to her lips.
“So, are you happy?”
Lena smiled at her question. “Without a doubt.”
*******
The twins were approaching five months and Lena was dreading having to go back to L-Corp, even though they would get to come with her, she’s enjoyed these months with just her family. Libby’s hair had come in a full force of beautiful blonde locks just like Kara’s, and Leo’s hair had finally started to grow in at around three months looking as dark as Lena’s, their eyes on the other hand were still a mystery to everyone. In some lighting, they looked blue and in others, they looked green, nobody could quite figure out when the colour would settle or what it would settle as. On Earth it took a few months to a few years for a baby’s eye colour to settle, Léa’s took nine months before settling on green which surprised Lena and Sam both since Jack had brown eyes which were more dominant, but Kara mentioned it took a shorter amount of time on Krypton, so they’d have to wait. Every baby was different.
Kara had just left to run a few errands when Alex came over, the two had been talking since Christmas about the surprise Lena wanted to do for her love. The redhead walked in, instantly smiling at the sight of Leo cuddled on his mama’s chest, he was definitely a mama’s boy, then rushed over to pick up Libby from the floor where her toys were for a cuddle.
“Did you figure it out? Will it work?” Lena asked, impatient.
Alex nodded. “Yes. Lillian and I got in touch with them and it’s all set, it’ll take a day or so to get there and will be perfectly safe for all of you.”
The brunette grinned, she was excited about telling Kara where they were going for their first family vacation. “When can we leave?”
“As soon as she gets home if you want, J’onn has the ship ready and waiting on standby. We’ll give you guys a few days to get used to it then join you. Esme can’t wait, it’s all she’ll talk about.” She smiled at her daughter's name, the adoption had been finalized four months ago so they were officially all Danvers-Olsen's.
Once Alex left, after extensive baby snuggles from her niece and nephew, Lena set to work on packing Léa’s suitcase. Kara walked in just as she was zipping it closed.
“Is Léa going somewhere, my love?” she wrapped her arms around Lena’s waist from behind.
“Actually, we’re all going somewhere. So go pack a bag for at least a month.” She gave no other explanation, just smirking at the adorable confusion written all over the blonde’s face.
But she went to their room nonetheless while Lena went to the twin’s room, they’d had yet to move them in there yet, Lena loved co-sleeping with Léa when she was a baby up until she was two and couldn’t bring herself to do it early as the books suggested. What did those know anyway? The people who wrote them probably either didn’t have kids or had nannies raise the kids they did have.
Libby and Leo’s suitcase was going to be bigger than Lena’s, with all of the extra clothes they had to bring, and diapers and wipes, and just everything, but there wasn’t a weight limit and no charge for extra bagging. Speaking of the twins, Lena’d just closed the second suitcase when a wail from the living room had her dropping the third even though she had a camera and could see them from the monitor.
When she got to the living room, Leo was sitting next to his sister as she cried, a red mark on her forehead. Lena picked her up, bouncing as she shushed her. “What happened, my little princess, hm?” Seeing his sister in discomfort, Leo started whining so she picked him up too. Just as when they were born, their hands met over Lena’s chest.
“What happened?!” Kara all but shouted as she barreled into the room, her feet barely touching the ground.
“I have no idea, check the monitor.” Kara pulled the app up onto her phone, walking closer to Lena. They watched as the twins played on the ground, they couldn’t crawl yet but were pretty damn close with scooting on their knees, Libby had thrown a toy and went scooting after it when her head bumped against the leg of the coffee table. Leo went right for her, trying to comfort her as best he could as a baby, and the couple shared a smile. He was already trying to protect his sister and it was the cutest thing.
“Guess it's time to either move the table or invest in a baby jail.” Lena said, kissing both of their heads, heading for the stairs with Kara behind her.
“Baby jail? What the fuck is that?” The blonde questioned.
Lena laughed. “It’s like a playpen but just sits on the floor and doesn’t need much setting up. Léa had one, so did Ruby, and it kept them out of trouble for the most part.” Kara breathed out a sigh. “What did you think it was, darling?” She asked, raising an eyebrow.
“I-I don’t know…” Kara trailed off, reaching for the twins so Lena could finish packing for them. “Will you tell me where we’re going? Please? The curiosity is killing me.” she pouted.
“Trust me, you’ll love it. Are you packed?” the blonde nodded, making faces at the twins which caused them to burst into giggles. “I’m just finishing them up then I’ll pack for myself, Sam is dropping Léa off, then after dinner, we’ll go.”
“We’ll go where?” Kara questioned but Lena just grinned and turned, walking back to the finished packing for the twins. She sighed, looking at her babies. “Mama is a meanie head, yes she is.”
“I heard that!” Lena shouted with laughter.
*******
Léa arrived home and they all ate dinner, the little girl going on and on about what happened at school when Lena checked the time. If they didn’t leave now, the twins would get cranky and the ride would not be fun.
“Alright, let's clean up and get going.” She winked at Léa who giggled.
Kara’s blue eyes narrowed. “She knows, doesn’t she?”
“I have no idea what you are talking about, darling.” Lena breezily said, standing to put their dishes in the dishwasher. “Can you put the bags in the car? We’ll meet you out there.”
Despite wanting to say no and pull out where they were going from Lena, Kara nodded and grabbed a section from the mountain of bags to take to the car. Lena and their daughter were both acting strange, not to mention they were traveling at night, which they normally wouldn’t. As she was loading the last of the bags, Léa came running over to the car with Lena behind her carrying the twins’ seats. She rushed over, not wanting her to hurt herself. They settled in the car with Lena behind the wheel, barely able to contain her nerves. She went in the direction of the DEO, confusing Kara.
“Love, where are we going?”
Lena’s knuckles turned white from gripping the steering wheel tightly then she let out a breath. “A few months ago I asked Alex about something, wanting to see if it was even possible before getting your hopes up.” They were almost to the DEO.
“To see if what was possible?” Kara asked, her brow furrowing.
Glancing through the mirror at her daughter, Léa nodded encouragingly as they pulled up in front of the building. “It’s a very late Christmas present but, to see if it was possible for us to visit Argo City.” The blonde stiffened. “My mother and Alex have been in communication with them since Christmas trying to figure things out.” Putting the car in park, Lena turned it off and then moved so she could look Kara in the eye. “This morning, Alex came over and told me everything was set and all we had to do was pack.”
“S-So what does that mean?” It looked like the blonde didn’t even want to think about the possibility of getting to go, like if she didn’t hope and it didn’t happen then she wouldn’t be disappointed.
Lena just smiled. “It means, we’re going to visit your mom.”
