Tempest of the Sky

Summary:

Shika Potter lost all hope in England and the Wizard World the moment she saw the truth staring back at her with emerald green eyes.

Chapter Text

fifteen year old Shika Potter stumbled away from the group of Ravenclaws who'd somehow managed to drag her halfway through the bookstore in under a minute.
She shook her head with a smile as she spotted the very reason she'd asked for their help. A whole bookshelf on Runes stood before her in all it's glory.
Her joy slowly faded when she saw a young girl with suspiciously familiar red hair trying to reach the second shelf.

Shika approached slowly, her suspicion only growing the closer she got.
She tapped the girl on the shoulder and found her eyes locked with identical emerald eyes.
"Who are you?" they asked together one with disgust [the girl] and the other with suspicious anger.

"I am Melodia Potter. Who are you?" asked the younger girl who Shika could now tell was eleven years old.
"Well hello Melo-dia" Shika said slowly, angrily, "I'm your big sister apparently; Shika Potter at your service."
Melodia laughed "Yeah right Shika is practically a squib, you certainly could never be her."

Shika felt her soul freeze for a second before she pushed past it, unaware of the red and orange sparks fluttering off of her fingertips.
Well if that was the way they'd played it who was she to argue?
"Alright I'm not your sister. Sorry for bothering you Miss Potter."

And then she walked away.

Chapter 2

Summary:

Was it really any surprise that she ran away?

Chapter Text

At first no one in the order took notice of the fact that the Potters didn't mention Shika, after all they were still shocked that they were alive.
But then Ron became more and more vocal about his distaste for 'The Weakest Wix he'd ever met' and they looked to the Potters to reprimand him; and yet they didn't.
No one was more confused by this than Shika's caring Godfather, Sirius.

He didn't want to believe that his best friend would leave Shika with the Dursleys or let her be put down but the evidence was practically being shoved at him.
Her siblings didn't seem to know about her or if they did they only knew a twisted version.

Shika was the most kind and caring being Sirius had ever met.
Not to mention she was extremely powerful, maybe not with traditional magic but still.
It took a very strong soul to manifest not one but TWO very strong soul flames.

What if she didn't even know about their famiglia?
Sirius found it hard to believe James wouldn't tell her if he'd actually talked to her.
They came from a fairly influential and large famiglia most would have at least bragged about it but Sirius had a sinking feeling Shika had no idea.

They found out a week later that Shika had run away, Sirius didn't blame her.

Her parents hadn't wanted her and she had (apparently) run into a previously unknown sibling.
Was it really any surprise she'd run away?

Sirius had frequently run away from home himself and he knew that generally the runner had good reason to get the hell outta dodge.
He just hated that she hadn't felt she could inform him.
--------------------

Shika frowned as she watched the clouds float past the airplane window, she had bought the ticket with Dudley's allowance.
Her cousin was a spoiled brat but he did have his uses.

Leaning back Shika let out a smooth sigh and closed her eyes, determined to at least get some sleep.

Chapter Text

Dear Sirius,

I am sorry that I did not contact you immediately but it appears I must leave.

If you wish to know more say the code.

Love Deer.

Shika ran a finger along the edge of the plane's window desperately wondering if anyone had noticed her disappearance by now.

In truth Shika had never even suspected that her family might be alive. How could she when she had seen the blatant grief on her Godfather's face?

He had either been a spectacular liar or... telling the truth.

She'd believed him to be telling the truth then and she did now.

Just not the truth that was actually true.

Though most adults in her life had been liars, or had hurt her Shika trusted Sirius.

She knew that Sirius would never lie to her, would never hurt her.

That was something precious, something she would always treasure.

Something Blue, warm and steady lit in her mind and she saw a single lick of blue fire.

"I solemnly swear...that so long as I live"

Shika shook the thoughts of trust and the weird blue fire from her mind.

Though it weighed heavy on her mind she ignored it in favor of opening her water bottle and closing it slowly several times, this action brought her head back to reality.

"You will never be alone."

Hey Paddy,

glad I got this to you.

I ran into my 'little sister' Melodia.

I don't get it Paddy why hide?

Why leave me behind?

I'm sorry I ran away but

I couldn't stand the thought of seeing my parents

and only being able to think:

Why didn't you take me too?

Why did you fake your deaths?

or worse:

Why did you replace me?

I know it's not true, or at least I hope not

but I'm not sure I could stand it.

I love you Paddy, if you want you can come visit?

I mean I'll be staying in Japan for a bit before I look for a permanent house but...

Just...

You are always welcome to my home.

Love Shika.

"Oh pup." murmured Sirius sadly as he gazed at his Goddaughter's letter.
Of course he was coming to visit, he was going to find her and give her a big hug before possibly adopting her. James and Lily, hard as it was to admit, did not deserve the beautiful and talented young woman who was their Daughter.

Chapter Text

Shika stood and stretched before grabbing her backpack, the only bag she had, from the rack above her head.

They had arrived in Japan ten minutes ago but there had been some docking difficulties so they had to wait. Shika, and everyone else on board, was ready to fight her way of the plane she'd been on for the past 12 hours. She hadn't gotten a lot of sleep since her seatmate had decided to wake her with concerned chatter after he got back.

She had stubbornly remained silent while he'd bugged her about where her 'Guardians' were.

He was still watching her with concern but at least now he was silent.

Everyone was restlessly shifting as they waited, and waited, and waaaaaaaaiiiitttttttedddd.

Damn she was bored.

Okay, that was easily managed.

Shika pulled out her phone, technically Dudley's old broken one but it was still in okay-ish condition, and opened the Paint Monster game. She spent the next twenty-five minutes playing until finally they were allowed off the plane.

The aisle was quickly swamped by everyone racing to get off so Shika had to wait until it was clear before she booked it to the door.

Inside the Airport was a lot calmer, mostly because it was bigger and therefor less crowded.

There were signs built into the pillars, escalators and shops too for some reason but Shika was looking for one sign in particular.

Ah, there.

Wizarding Registration Office.

She carefully entered and smiled slightly when she saw the absolute chaos in the room.

A brightly colored feathered creature was flying through the room, seemingly laughing at the agents trying to catch it. There was yelling from one corner where two men, a costumer and an agent, were screaming at each other and a woman was holding a hand to her head in exasperation. Birds were chirping from various cages, obviously illegally brought over. A baby was hic-crying with his mother at another desk as she talked calmly to the agent.

Only one desk was open so Shika made a beeline for the Agent.

The man was tall, as far as she could tell at least, and had dark black almost blue hair.

He looked up as she approached and smiled widely, teeth gleaming to white, instantly setting her on edge. Something wasn't quite right about him but she shrugged it off.

"Hello, How may I help you today?" His voice was far too cheerful.

"Umm, Registration and translation key please." Shika responded carefully eyeing the strange man as he pulled out an old-fashioned typewriter.

"Name, age, gender, and country of birth?" He asked fingers poised to type.

"Uh, Potter Shika, female, fifteen, England. " She answered and he nodded before typing it in.

"Passport."

Shika handed it to him he checked it over, nodded, and handed it back.

She wasn't sure why he had needed it but really didn't want to ask.

"Any preferences on where you will live?" He asked as he added something onto the paper.

"Not a big city." was all she said.

"Oke-doke! Looks like you'll be moving to Namimori, Potter-Chan! We will register you with the local school, unfortunately we do not have a house lined up in that area as of yet. So for now you will be staying with the-" he checked the pile of notes by his elbow "- Hibari family. Here is you're translation key." he pushed a silver choker with a blue jewel in the center toward her which she put on carefully. "And here is you're ID." A flat card with her picture and various facts about her was pushed toward her as well.

She hesitantly picked it up and absently read it.

Potter Shika.

Age: 15.

Height: 5' 6''.

Hair Color: Black.

Eye Color: Green.

Cool.

"It's self updating." added the man, his blue eyes sparkled and she felt a slight shiver go up her spine.

"Thank you sir." she said hoping that she wouldn't have to deal with the strange man again.

After a little while Shika was lead out of the office by another agent, thankfully not one that made her hair stand on edge.

The Agent, whose name was Yonamine Raidon chattered to her about how much she was going to like Namimori and how his nephew lived there as he lead her to the car they would take to her new home. It was oddly interesting. "- And there are so many interesting places to go! Like TakeSushi, my nephew works there during the summer! Or the Namimori Public Pool-"

Shika eyed him as she realized he still hadn't taken a breathe since he started. That wasn't normal right?

Surely that wasn't normal.

"-Of course you could just stay home all day but what fun would that be?!"

Shika shrugged even though she knew he wasn't really expecting an answer.

"Ah, there's our ride!" he cheerfully exclaimed and Shika blinked before following his gaze to the coolest car she'd ever seen, of course considering she'd only seen like three or four cars up close in her life...

It was a nice navy blue with a sleek design and the inside, once they climbed in, proved itself to be just as amazing as the outside.

"Buckle up Potter-Chan." Yonamine-San told her cheerfully before they left.

All in all the drive to Namimori was enjoyable. Mostly because she fell asleep halfway there to the sounds of Yonamine-San singing to his radio.

But still! It was very nice and Shika was relaxed and content as they pulled up to her new home, at least for the time it took to buy a new house.

Chapter Text

Shika opened the door and blinked rapidly, trying to assimilate what she saw to the word house. It didn't work, that was no mere house.

That was a mansion.

It was beautiful, three stories high with large glass windows. Weirdly said glass windows were only on the second floor. The front door was elegant and had a pair of Skylarks in flight carved at the heart of the door. The roof swooped elegantly with small divots that most likely were a design choice but Shika couldn't help but notice it would make walking across it extremely difficult.

The driveway was lined by several shrubs that Shika didn't recognize. In the yard behind the shrubs were several cherry trees and the sound of rushing water, most likely a stream also came from there.

Yonamine-San opened her door and she blushed as she realized she had just sat in the car looking around when she was supposed to be meeting her hosts. Yonamine-San smiled "Don't worry Potter-Chan, Hibari-san won't mind. In fact she'll most likely be flattered that you found her home so striking!" he laughed, Shika didn't really believe him but decided not to comment.

She slid out of the car and followed Yonamine-San to the door, he knocked and she held her breathe as she waited.

Shika was actually startled to find she was nervous, she didn't get nervous easily, but she wanted to make a good impression on Lady Hibari.
Yonamine-San nodded encouragingly.

Slowly the door opened and a beautiful woman, tall and slender with black hair and grey eyes, walked out. Her gaze caught on Shika and she smiled. Her smile was a soft thing but Shika had a feeling it could be deadly , she did not want to anger this woman that was for sure. Shika desperately controlled the urge to gulp and instead bowed, a little shakily.

It was amazing how she could make Shika feel like a mouse quivering in front of a tiger by simply looking her over. "No need for that little one." said the woman in a voice that sounded like birdsong "I am Hibari Caihong and who are you, young one?" Shika swallowed tightly before standing "Potter Shika, ma'am."

The giggle the woman let out startled Shika just a little. How could a woman who was so obviously dangerous giggle like a school girl? Shika eyed her in confusion. "Oh, don't mind me." she laughed "It's just your name means deer..." she trailed of giggling and Shika had no more understanding than before she explained.

Shika looked to Yonamine-San for help but all he could do was shrug. "Well Potter-Chan I must be off." he told her "Gooday, Potter-Chan, Hibari-San." Yonamine-San smiled and left. Both Hibari-San and Shika waved as he left.

"Come now Potter-Chan." Lady Hibari said with a smile "I'll show you to the guest room."

The 'Guest Room' turned out to be a more like an apartment. There was a sitting room which was thankfully only about the same size as the Dursley's kitchen, a bathroom, a bedroom, and a walk in closet.

"If this is too small we can move you closer to..." Lady Hibari said snapping Shika out of her stunned sience.

"No, no! This is amazing, and huge compared to my usual living space. Thank you!" Shika said happily, a little shocked that Lady Hibari considered that small.

"Oh, of course dear." lady Hibari said with a smile "Now there are some rules that you will need to follow is that okay?-" Shika nodded "- wonderful. First, do not go to the third floor unless invited, that is my son's area and he does not like guest in his area." Shika nodded it seemed reasonable enough "- Breakfast is a 5:00 sharp, please do not be late." She'd gotten up earlier for Quiditch practice. "No alcohol, drugs, or rap music. And please try not to break anything, if you do please tell me do not try to hide it." Definitely reasonable.

"Sounds good Hibari-San." she said with a smile. Lady Hibari smiled back.

Meanwhile in England

Lily Potter smiled as her daughters, Melodia, Tansy, and Robin made friends with Tonks the Metamorphagus. She had always felt bad that they couldn't make friends because they would put them in a vulnerable position as they were in hiding. Richie and Daniel had never had that problem as they were more introverted.

James was currently reading to their boys. The twins were thirteen and were more than ready to go to school but neither wanted to go and be around so many other children. Or as they put it "Nosy, noisy mice who would crowd them".

Lily walked over to them and smiled when Richie growled along with his James as he imitated the dragon. "How's it going boys?" she asked Daniel shrugged, Richie grinned brightly and James smiled "The boys are thinking about doing a play." Doubtful, neither of the boys liked people staring at them. But it their responses were adorable Richie and Daniel scowled and said in sync "Never!"

Lily laughed "You won't have to. Your dad was just teasing."

The boys went back to reading and Lily couldn't help but think that their family was perfect.

Chapter Text

Shika unpacked as quietly as she could, slender fingers folding quickly and efficiently just as she'd been taught. She amused herself by imagining her Aunts face if she ever thanked the woman for teaching her proper cleaning techniques.

She'd probably faint. She thought with a smile. Aunt Petunia had never really liked Shika but she'd raised her to be a proper Lady. It was more than her parents had done.

"Dinner's ready!" chirped Lady Hibari from her door causing Shika to jump at the sound. She dropped the sweater she'd been holding and glanced up at Lady Hibari through the fringe of black hair over her eyes. She hadn't meant to jump but Lady Hibari was truly a tiger, elegant and silent, a deadly combination.

"Oh, I'm sorry dear. I didn't mean to scare you." and she actually meant it. Shika nearly gasped at that because she'd been so sincere . Not a lot of people actually meant their apologize, that was why Shika tended to only apologize if she meant it.

She pushed the thought from her mind and nodded "It's fine. Thank you for informing me of dinner." Lady Hibari smiled "Of course dear."

The dinning room was somehow even bigger that the indoor pool five blocks from Privet Drive. Shika wasn't sure how to take that.

There were four entrances to the room; One was from the kitchen, another from the gardens, and the last to were from the house. Each door had a skylark etched upon it.

The table was long and low with swirling designs carved onto it.

There was a young boy, about her age, sitting already. He looked as they came in and she couldn't help but think he really resembled his mother.

"Okaa-san, who is this?" he asked an edge of suspicion in his voice as he stood looking ready to pounce.

"Her name is Potter Shika,-"his eyes widened "-Kyouya, and she is a guest until she has her own territory." Lady Hibari said calmly the younger Hibari nodded and relaxed now that he was assure she wouldn't try to takeover his territory. Shika hid an amused smile as he bowed his head to her "Hibari Kyouya, Potter-Chan." he said before sitting once more.

She was fairly certain she was missing something because Lady Hibari let an exasperated sigh before sitting herself and gesturing for Shika to join them.

A bowl of steaming fried riced rested in front of her, she was honestly terrible at chop sticks but made a valiant effort. Though it did make Lady Hibari Laugh a bit.

Desert was thankfully something that didn't require chopsticks: Mochi balls. The delicious red bean paste and rice cake desert was something she'd eaten only once before.

Kyouya watched the little animal with amusement. At first he'd thought she was a herbivore who'd decided to invade his home but then he'd watched. The Deer was careful and precise in every movement. Her steps measured to get her where she wanted and no further.

She wasn't trained, that was obvious, but she would fight if someone tried to make her do something she didn't want to do. Perhaps he could help the baby omnivore grow into herself. She certainly had potential.

Yes, that must be why his mother had brought her home. Kyouya could help the deer grow her antlers and he knew his mother would approve. She hated seeing omnivores and carnivores hide behind a herbivorous mask.

His heart did that weird skip it had done when he'd first seen her at the thought. Weird, he hoped he was not getting sick. It would be inconvenient to teach the deer if he was sick.

Caihong hummed in amusement as she watched her son watch Potter-Chan.

Honestly the girl was too adorable for her own good. She did resemble a deer in personality, kind and quiet but ready to fight when needed.
Caihong wondered absently how long it would take Kyouya to realized he liked her. Maybe a month, at best .

She sighed. Damn.

Chapter Text

Shika panted heavily as she collapsed onto the floor. Kyouya let out that weird chuff sound as he watched her. It had only been a week and yet somehow the boy had managed to make her his sparing partner. Well, randomly attacking her so she had to fight or sustain injuries wasn't exactly 'sparing' but Shika was willing to roll with it.

For Now at least. That didn't make it any less exhausting though.

"Again." Kyoya commanded and Shika removed herself from the floor before sliding into a newly learnt stance before he charged. She blocked a hit grimacing and put her all into the stupid fight. Why couldn't she have normal friends?

Ah, that's right. The Dursley's had ruined her for normal people.

Meanwhile in England.

Draco sighed as he stretched out on the window seat. The book he'd been reading slid to the side as he allowed the green energy to crackle along his fingertips. It crackled like a fireplace in the midst of winter.

Blaise called them Lightning flames, Draco didn't really care. All he knew was that for some reason his energy was tied with Potter's orange-red fire. Or at least that was what he felt and Blaise had confirmed. He, Luna Lovegood, and Neville Longbottom had gone 'Active' a few weeks after they learned Potter had disappeared. There had been random accidents to help them 'Activate' of course but the catalyst was Potter and they all knew it.

Luna was what Blaise called a 'Really spacey.' Mist Flame user. Neville was a Storm Flame user, apparently they were supposed to be angry but Draco just didn't see it. Then again he didn't see how Neville was Brave either so he supposed he might be missing something.

Draco had been surprised to learn that Potter considered him a friend but he supposed their arguments were enjoyable. And it was even more fun to take attention off of her when she looked... overwhelmed. Huh, maybe he really was her friend. He'd always tried to divert attention from her and onto him he just hadn't realized he was helping her in doing so.

Weird.

Shika relaxed in the sunlight coming through her window. She was finally free from their 'spar' and really wanted a nap but knew better. If she slept now she wouldn't be tired enough to sleep through the night.

But she couldn't just lay there in the sun. She was already getting bored, maybe she could explore the gardens? Or she could go into town.

Actually that sounded like a lovely idea!

She popped up from the ground and grabbed her bag before leaving. She couldn't wait to see all the things Yonamine-San had told her about!

Chapter Text

The Namimori shopping district was crowded when Shika arrived. People were walking, talking, and shopping (obviously) all around her. Shika found the district both cheery and too crowded but she did enjoy the bright colors coming from some of the shops so she could ignore the large masses of people.

(Badly, her hands were giving off sparks and any Flame user who saw her wisely moved out of the way. They still remembered Xanxus, it was better to get out of the way than piss off a Wrathful Sky. They were absolutely terrifying when mad.)

(Or you know mildly annoyed.)

On the street corner was a woman testing the weight of a pair of fans, a man was setting up a dummy and a multitude of long range weapons. Intrigued she came closer and watched in fascination as the woman attacked the dummy.

She sliced through the fabric cleanly and stuffing leaked from the slashes. Shika knew that if that had been a real person that would have been blood.

Shika didn't really like the thought of killing senselessly but maybe she could get one of those fans? Maybe one that wasn't quite so sharp?

Before she could ask however the woman was blocking projectiles and that gave her a slightly insane idea.

Those fans had to be mad of metal right?

(The flame users who saw the unholy grin on her face shuddered. They hoped she and the chaos magnet known as Reborn never, ever met.)

"You want a tessen?" Suzaku Airi asked curiously as she looked down at the baby Wrath Sky who'd wandered into her shop.

"Mh-hm." The kid nodded her head, black hair swishing with the movement.

"And you want it to be reflective on the folded side?" She confirmed.

The kid nodded again a glint of unholy glee coming to her eyes. Airi was not going to question it, she would prefer not to know any plans from any Familia. It made the possibility of getting tortured for info drop quite a bit.

"Right, okay then. any specific color or design?" Airi asked hoping she had a tessen in the specific order the girl wanted. The kid was cute but Airi knew better than to take her at face value, not to mention the kid was a Sky and Airi was a lonely cloud.

"No ma'am." She said with a smile. Right then, a standard design should work. she thought before going off to look.

She definitely wanted to make a good impression on the Wrath Sky who'd come to her shop for a weapon instead of her Familia's Weapons Designer.

Suzaku Airi was an interesting woman. She was a strong fighter, with an obviously well paying job but she seemed oddly reverent and... hopeful when interacting with Shika.

Shika wandered about the shop as she waited. It was beautiful, that was for sure, with thousands of elegant weapons safely stored in one shop. The displays were careful in design and every bit as delicately built as the Hibari's table.

She wondered for a moment how much it had cost to have the cases built. But before she could put too much thought into it Suzaku-San returned carrying a couple boxes in her arms.

"So I got all the tessen I could find with reflective sides. I didn't know what pattern you wanted so I brought all of them." She said cheerfully putting the boxes down before opening them so Shika could see them.

There was a white fan with cherry blossoms on it.

A black and gold fan with a crescent moon.

A black fan with a swirled ball of orange and red.

And a blue fan with a white circle in the center and a pair of dragons on either side of the orb.

That was the one.

Carefully extracting it from the box Shika couldn't help but feel a great deal of gratitude towards Suzaku-San. She had taken her strange request seriously and now Shika had both a weapon and a shield.

"Thank you, Suzaku-San." She breathed out as she looked up from her new weapon.

"You're welcome. And, please, call me Airi" Suzaku-San chirped cheerfully as she gathered the boxes into a pile. Setting them on the shelf behind her Su- Airi gestured for Shika to follow her to the register.

Once she'd paid Airi Shika was free to leave but something in her gut told her to ask one more thing.

"Would you teach me to use it Airi?" She asked letting her eyes turn large and her expression slip into a pleading look.

Airi was obviously startled by either the question or her expression but she smiled. "Sure thing kiddo!" She exclaimed "Just tell me where to meet you and I'll come every... how does Saturday work?"

"Sure. Saturdays work, how about at the park?" Shika smiled when Airi ruffled her hair with a cooed "Sure thing Kid."

"Oh, and you can call me Shika."

(Shika had no idea that as she walked home Airi squealed mentally about how adorable the Wrath Sky that was, probably, courting her as an element was.)

(She also didn't notice Sawada Tsunayoshi and Reborn the Greatest Hitman walk past her.)

Chapter Text

Shika returned to Hibari Mansion and navigated her way to the dining room on silent feet. If she was to loud she would attract attention and she wanted to surprise Lady Hibari.

Well... and Kyouya-kun when he got home too. Not that she'd ever, ever admit it. She really liked Kyouya but wasn't about to push her position when she was sure he didn't like her and had plenty more girls chasing his coat tails.

Lady Hibari wasn't in the dining room so Shika looked in all the usual places before she heard voices coming from the Gardens. Angry voices.

Something was wrong.

Carefully unfolding her tessen Shika approached the voices silently. Ready for a fight, just in case. Shika really liked Lady Hibari and would never forgive herself if something happened to her.

Sirius looked down at the three kids who had somehow managed to find him. Neville wasn't a surprise since he'd visited the Order before but the Lovegood girl and his cousin were.

"What?" He asked slowly.

"I knew this wasn't going to work." snarled Draco lowly fingers... sparking?

Oh. Oh! Of course. "You went active." Sirius said eyes sliding over them "Shika is your Sky."

"Yes. And we need to find her." snapped Neville before he drew in a deep breath looking sheepish "Sorry." he muttered.

"No don't be sorry you're right. Storm correct?" Sirius smiled when the boy nodded. "You can come with me to her. But you will have to interact with muggles" the amusement was clear in his voice.

"Of course." Sang the Lovegood girl serenely "Where better to go to avoid heliopaths?"

Mist. She had to be a mist.

Draco sneered but nodded.

Neville just smiled which set Sirius on edge but could be ignored.

"Right then I'll take you to the airport tomorrow. Don't be late."

The group were up bright and early the next morning.

"Alright hand 'em over!" Sirius said cheerfully, as if he wasn't making them give up their most important possessions and only weapons.

"What?! Are you crazy? NO!" snapped Draco as he cradled his wand to his chest. He was not handing his wand over to this obvious madman. The ten inch hawthorn with unicorn hair wand had been with him since age eleven he was rather... attached to it. His magic hand bonded with it deeply. Kind of like a magic child's favorite plushy wound up magically drenched.

"Do you want to see Shika or not?" Sirius asked and Draco paused. Did he or didn't he? Shika was the only one who saw how lonely he had been. She'd poked and prodded until their arguments were more friendly bickering than the 'I want to tear your throat out' aggression they'd started as. Shika had always had his back when the bullies in Gryffindor got to be too much as well. Draco handed over his wand, a good friend was hard to come by. Because of Shika he had four, she chased his loneliness away, and he'd never forget that.

Neville hand over his with a slight hesitation. It wasn't completely his and he'd never bonded quite like Draco had. Though he could understand Draco's protest it wasn't quite like that for Neville and his dad's wand.

Luna handed hers over with an uncommonly serious expression. She pushed aside the misty veil that always surrounded her mind for the moment. For the moment she thought deeply about whether or not she wanted this before she handed it over. For Shika Potter Luna would go to the ends of the earth, give up her magic or die. Shika had always been kind even though it was obvious she wasn't treated well either. She bought herself several enemies by sticking close to Luna, Luna rather liked to think that made them friends. Or at least allies.

"Good." Sirius grinned holding them lightly and then snapped them in half.

(In Saint Mungos one Frank Longbottom woke with a gasp. Startling the Medics caring for him at the time.)

"What the heck?!" exclaimed Neville summing all their thoughts up neatly.

"You gave up your wands to be Shika's friends and Familly. I snapped them because the old coot could track them to Shika's location." Sirius explained before handing Neville something made of metal. "This is a gun. A muggle weapon that can blow through our shields like nothing." Sirius said... seriously.

"These weapons are not a joke. I put the safety on but please don't play with them. And do not try to shoot them until I have taught you." he continued handing out these... guns.

And then holster that he showed how to put on successfully hiding them under their shirts.

"Right time to go." Sirius said taking out a portkey.

They disappeared in a whirl.

Chapter Text

The groups eyes shot open in surprise once they arrived at their destination.

They were just outside of what they assumed was the 'Airport' Sirius had told them about.

It was a large building with metal contraptions near high up exit points. There was a flow of constant traffic going into and out of the building. Unfortunately that was when they realized they had no luggage.

Oops.

"Don't worry. It's not like you had any normal luggage anyway." commented Sirius "All of your stuff were in trunks. That would draw a lot of attention."

Neville shot a glance at the others and shrugged. It seemed reasonable enough but what would they do about clothes, toiletries and other stuff. "We can by it when we get there. Now come on." Sirius said leading the way inside.

Draco, Neville and Luna were soon dumped in the waiting area while Sirius went off to do... something.

Draco was eying the door Sirius had disappeared into like he might chase after him to get away from Luna who was making some rather... odd comments and attracting attention from the nearby muggles.

("Yes, but what exactly are nargles?" asked a curious boy across from Luna who giggled.)

"Are you quite sure your sister is sane?" asked the girl in the seat next to him. Draco nearly said 'She is not my sister!' but stopped himself, it would just sound like a brother denying he was related to a weird sister. "No, actually I'm not sure. But that doesn't matter." he told her lightly "She's a good friend regardless."

("You're cool. Here-" the boy handed her a slip of paper "- My number. Call me, we can talk whenever.")

Draco smiled just a bit at the interaction ignoring the now gaping girl next to him.

"Draco." Neville said lightly "Where exactly do you think Sirius went off to?"

"Paperwork obviously. We are leaving the country I'm sure they have mandatory paperwork for it." Draco shrugged before the girl semi shrieked with laughter he glared at her. "What?!"

"Your name is Draco?!" She laughed incredulously when the boy who'd been talking to Luna looked up with a scowl. "Like yours is any better; Cindy Loohoo." he snapped before turning to Draco "I'm Mason by the way. Sorry about my twin-"they didn't look like twins. One was blonde with blue eyes(the girl) and the other had red hair and blue eyes. "-She's PMS-ing and being a right brat today." the girl scowled. Draco had no idea what PMS-ing was but thought it might be best to cool his temper lest he ignite hers.

"Of course." Draco nodded "All is forgiven."

"You some sorta noble or some such?" asked Mason "You talk mighty odd for a kid." Draco flushed slightly but ignored his embarrassment "Not exactly." answered Neville with a smirk "Draco just has a rather strict father. Speech patterns modeled after him were expected."

Mason shrugged "Es alright. Just askin'. So where're you headed?"

"Japan." Neville and Draco said together. Cindy and Mason shared a look that neither one of them understood. "Cool." said Cindy "We've-""-always-""-wanted to-""-go there!" they said in the twinspeak way just like Fred and George Weasley when they wanted to annoy someone. Neville raised an eyebrow and shot Draco a look that he translated as 'Show them up with their own technique?' Draco blinked slowly hoping to convey 'Sure.'

"Really-""-Why is-""-that?" there was that look again. "Nice." chirped Mason, what was nice? Draco did not understand. "We wanted to go because our cousin lives there. We've never met him but we'd like to."

"Well if we meet him we can tell you about him." offered Neville Mason beamed "That would be great his name's Sawada Tsunayoshi." he said Draco smirked "We'll be sure to keep an eye out."

They were stopped from any more conversation but Sirius's voice "While I'm glad you're making friends it's time to go."

Both Neville and Draco were surprised to feel disappointed they couldn't spend more time there but helped Luna up and followed Sirius away with calls of "Goodbye!" over there shoulders.

Chapter Text

Shika adjusted the ice on her nose with a blush. She hadn't expected the reaction she got when she entered the space where Lady Hibari and her apparent guest had been arguing. Getting kicked right in the nose by a tiny person was a bit of a surprise. Of course her reaction, a spin kick that threw him to the ground, had been no better.

Lady Hibari was watching both of them with the 'I'm-not-angry-just-disappointed' face, it made Shika feel bad for everything she'd ever done wrong (including steal food from the Dursley's[although if she knew about that she would more likely be proud]). It was slightly nerve racking.

"Fon this is my guest Potter Shika. Shika-Chan this is Fon, my brother." Shika nodded to the man, as his size obviously lied about his age "Pleasure to meet you Fon-San." she said.

"Now Shika, why exactly did you look ready for a fight earlier?" Lady Hibari asked.

Blushing deeply Shika replied "I thought you were in trouble. I didn't want you to get hurt." she said sheepishly. "Thank you Shika-Chan that is very thoughtful of you but I could have taken care of it myself if I was in danger." Lady Hibari reminded gently "I know" Shika mumbled.

"Well now that that's out of the way: who wants tea?" Lady Hibari asked.

Draco and the others managed to get a whole row to themselves which was fortunate because everyone else seemed to be snoring, watching something or reading with loud crinkle noises as the pages turned. Neville fell asleep first and then Luna slipped off into dreamland on his shoulder and finally Draco let sleep drag him off. Sirius watched them fondly, his pup had chosen her Guardians well he could tell. They had all been willing to give up something monumental to follow her showing their loyalty. They'd shown courage by coming to a whole new world. And they'd shown how smart they were by sort of fitting in with muggles.

He had a good feeling about them. Quietly closing his book Sirius let himself fall into a dreamless sleep.

Back in the Wizarding world, staring Frank Longbottom!

Frank stared at his mother incredulously. Did she just say what he thought she just said?

"I'm sorry my son is what?"

"Missing, but it's not like he lived up to your legacy so I don't see what all the fuss is about. He'll come home eventually." Alarm bells rang in Frank's head.

"He doesn't need to live up to my legacy he can be whoever and whatever he wants." he said slowly trying to make sense of what he'd been told. "Have you been trying to.. make him like me?" He asked and when his mother nodded the alarms blared extra loud. Oh, dear.

"That's not healthy Mom! I get that you were grieving but trying to replace me with my son was wrong. And probably traumatizing and cruel to Neville. He can't be me mom, he's got a bit of his mom in him and would never live up to your expectations." He scowled "To put it mildly you mentally abused my son for fourteen years."

Chapter Text

Caihong smirked at her brother from behind her teacup.

It wasn't every day your brother got defeated by a rookie fighter after all. Even if said rookie was trained by a Hibari.

It was honestly amusing enough to make her forget her fury at her brother's reappearance. Although he should have known better than to start shouting in a Cloud's territory.

Or for that matter a Sky's nest, Wrathful or not. Not that Fon had known about that particular detail.

Shika sipped her tea quietly while looking awkwardly between them. Caihong was slightly guilty about making the young Wrath Sky worry and then have to sit through a silent tea with no explanation.

But not guilty enough to explain their argument. Mostly because she'd halfway forgotten what had started it anyway and also because she was still annoyed that her brother, who hadn't been home in twelve years, had waltzed into her home uninvited.

Anyway. Caihong sipped her tea silently; it was still awkward but it was amusing to watch Fon squirm.

Shika sighed as she slumped in her bed an hour later. That tea had been damn tense.

Shika had no idea what was up between those two but she preferred not to touch their family drama with a ten foot pole. (She had enough of her own, thank you!) Though she had been itching to fight Fon-San which was unusual but she chalked it up to bad first impressions.

(It wasn't, it so, so wasn't.)

"Little animal."

Shika managed to contain her shriek of alarm but couldn't help jumping at Kyouya's voice. How had she not noticed him come in?!

She swallowed nervously but sat up and turned to look at the boy. "Yes, Hibari-San?" she said trying to keep her voice as pleasant as possible.

Kyouya was standing literally two feet away from her, she wasn't sure how she missed that when most of the time if someone got to close she'd be on high alert instantly.
He tilted his head and seemed to be scanning her for injuries?

What?

His gaze landed on her nose, which was only slightly bruised, and then flickered to the ice pack on the night stand.

His eyes narrowed dangerously a low growl filling the room.

Oh, boy.

30 minutes earlier

Kyouya scowled he could sense the presence of an older carnivore in his territory. That was unacceptable.

Even worse was the fact that he could sense the Deer there as well.

Every instinct in him demanded he protect her from the older carnivore but he was... gone now? How did he leave so quickly?

Kyouya frowned and decided that if he ever felt the presence again he would attack without pause. He'd gotten to close to Shika-Chan for comfort and that was unforgivable. Not to mention entering his territory without permission.

He frowned, he felt like something was off about this. Suddenly his instincts blared and his eyes grew cold, the Carnivore had damaged something of his.

Oh, that presence would pay when he felt it again.

For now he had to find what had been damaged, fix it, and check on Shika-Chan.

...........................
It turned out all that had been damaged on the property was a bush, thankfully. Though Kyouya still felt like something was off he resigned himself to the odd sensation until he found the problem. Right now he had to check on the Deer.

He found her resting in her room, that set off several alarms. Why else would she be resting unless she was injured?

His gaze flowed over her looking for any obvious wounds when his eyes landed on the bruise on her face and the ice on the night stand.

He growled. (A little ways away Fon shivered. He had a bad feeling that he'd royally pissed off a cloud.)

Chapter 13

Summary:

This is just a fluffy filler chapter. Hope you don't mind.

Chapter Text

"It's not that bad K-uh, Hibari-San."

Kyouya frowned but nodded, a bruise was not the worst injury she could have received from the older carnivore.

But still if they ever met the older carnivore would be getting a lot more than a bruise from him. Perhaps a few broken bones, or a well placed cut... yes that could work.

He turned his attention back to her "You may call me Kyouya if you like." he told her and felt his cheeks grow warm.

Was he sick? This would appear to be the second symptom. First his heart did weird things and then his cheeks grew warm. Concerning.

Perhaps he should have the physician look him over, he was obviously unwell.

"And you may call me Shika, Kyouya." She responded with a light smile. His heart skipped a beat and Kyouya left quickly.

He was definitely talking to the physician.

Shika felt like her heart was going to beat out of her chest with how happy she was.

Kyouya had definitely been concerned for her and he'd blushed as he left. She hoped she wasn't reading too much into it but it certainly seemed to her that he returned her feelings.

She popped up from her bed and went to write a letter, she had to tell Sirius everything.

Caihong smirked as she heard her son leave Shika-Chan's room.

He definitely liked her and was slowly growing closer to that revelation.

It was still slow going but Caihong had hope that Shika-Chan would one day be her daughter-in-law.

Shika was good for Kyouya and Kyouya was certainly good for Shika.

Shika had learned how to fight in earnest from her son and Kyouya had, er well, was learning how to feel the softer emotions he'd never truly felt before.

And how to trust someone else. That was an important lesson he'd learned as well.

Caihong was eternally grateful she'd brought the young Wrath Sky into her home.

Chapter Text

Draco yawned as they finally got off the metal contraption known as a plane.

He never wanted to do that again.

It had been fine at first, they all took a small twenty minute nap when they first got on. After that Luna got to watch a muggle moving picture (but with noises) on the screen in front of her. (He was still confused over that.) Which was good, because a bored Luna was a wickedly mischievous Luna. And that? Never ended well.

Sirius had read a book while making notes on some highly enchanted presentation notecards. Which Draco had found odd, why on earth would someone enchant notecards of all things? Though he'd only noticed because he'd tried to... read them. Ah! Well okay that made sense now actually.

The servant? Assistant? Had come through with food and drink several times. Draco had accepted a water bottle and an apple. The apple had been slightly sour but perfectly good in his opinion. Although having to ask Sirius how to open that stupid water bottle was more humiliating than all of his third year.

They'd experienced some turbulence which caused Luna to rush to the bathroom looking green.

Neville had spent most of his time watching the clouds float by. That is until he heard someone complaining loudly a row over about how their roses were wilting. He'd gotten up, against Draco's protest, to calmly ask how much water they were giving it. That discussion promptly became an argument over how much water was 'too much!' or 'Too little!'.

Draco had had to mediate by loudly distracting them from their argument. Which unfortunately meant yelling at the Assistant? who had handed him another water bottle. Resulting in Neville switching his ire to Draco who watched him in silence until he ran out of steam then snagged his arm and made him sit. Thankfully by then Neville had realized exactly what had happened and was less angry with Draco and more with himself.

After that they'd all gotten some more goddamned sleep and that was the best part of the whole trip in Draco's opinion.

"Alright Kiddos!" exclaimed Sirius "We have some paperwork to fill out so follow me!"

In the Wizarding World

Richard and Daniel Potter watched their family with quiet anger.

They had somehow managed to act normal these past few weeks since their sister had been reported missing. Unlike their younger siblings they had always known something wasn't right about their family.

Richard had always known someone was missing from their family, like someone had taken a link from their chain and tried to make them fit together. Melodia, Tansy and Robin hadn't noticed, and he knew that because he'd asked them. (Unlike Daniel who just assumed they didn't.)

When the children had finally been informed they had another sister the twins had noticed that their parents seemed to basically slander their Heiress and oldest child.

And all of James and Lily's words rang false with their instincts.

The same instincts that told them where the best spots were to hide, that taught them to defend their territory to the bitter end, and told them when to keep quiet.

Those instincts said those words were wrong, that their missing sister was strong, and worthy of their affections. That was more than they could say for the other Potters.

Chapter Text

After they all finished their paperwork and got far, far away from they Agent who made their skin crawl Sirius paid for a night at the hotel before they headed to Namimori.

However when they arrived...

There were signs with Shika's picture on them on every lamppost and board in the town.

There was definitely something wrong.

"What happened?" growled Neville, saying what everyone was thinking once again.

Sometime before

Shika was shopping in downtown Namimori when she heard the sounds of a fight.

She went looking for it even though several people were shooting her looks of concern. When she finally found it, tessen in hand, she was to surprised to move.

Because there, Kyouya and a weird boy were fighting hard in the street. Blood came from several spots on Kyouya and Shika couldn't help the gasp she let out.

Kyouya turned to her and that's when the other boy got an upper hand, knocking him to the ground.

Shika felt something hard slam into her temple and everything blacked out.

Shika groaned as she opened her eyes to her bedroom ceiling.

Something felt off. She never woke up facing the ceiling, she always faced the door.

She blinked as she felt something wet trickle down her brow. She reached up to wipe it away and her hand came back bloodied.

"Kufufufu." someone snickered mockingly, Shika sat up and looked around searching for the voice. There was no one there.

What was going on?

The last thing she remembered was....

Pain seared through her and fuzzy images of Kyouya's bloody face faded from her eyes.

Something was trying to make her memories of him fade too but she fought against it angrily. "~Feisty~ Kufufufu. I'll have fun breaking you."

Shika paled in anger, sparks leapt off her fingers though she had a feeling she wasn't supposed to hear those words.

She closed her eyes against another searing pain travelling through her body.

She shivered as her body went cold then hot in sudden shuddering burst.

"What have you done to her?" a voice... a familiar voice cried out.

"Kufufufu. What do you care prisoner? She's not important."

Shika groaned as she felt a fierce pain rack her body.

"Stop!" the voice growled as the pain flared again and the world faded out into a fuzzy black.

The black lasted for days... or maybe it was only hours, Shika didn't know.

All she knew was that she came awake to the sounds of Neville's sobs, Draco's hissing rage, Luna's quiet hiccupping sobs, Airi's voice loudly yelling to the sounds of a fight, Kyouya's frantic growl and Sirius's arms around her.

Chapter Text

Shika breathed in deeply before speaking, voice cracked and dry with disuse "Hey guys."

"Shika!" several voices shouted together.

(As well as a low "Who?" and "ow" from the background)

Shika cleared her throat "This is going to sound so stupid but: What the heck happened?"

"You almost died. I watched you be tortured every day." The voice that spoke was just as cracked and disused as Shika's was, she had a feeling she was supposed to know that voice.

It crackled in the back of her mind and then it clicked. That was Kyouya. But he sounded so broken, so different.

"Kyouya-Kun?" She coughed as she sat up looking for the boy, and there he was being supported by a fluffy haired kid with a baby on his shoulder. She pushed herself up and staggered to him, he retracted his arm from around the boy and caught her as she collapsed into his arms. He hugged her tightly.

She felt wet droplets hit her head and breathed in deeply to keep her own tears at bay.

"I thought he'd killed you. You screamed so loudly." he whispered harshly into her hair.

4 days ago, Kyouya's point of view.

Kyouya was enraged at first, that he'd been captured and that they'd had the audacity to kidnap Shika too.

That the pineapple haired boy called her unimportant.

It had turned to helpless anger pretty quick when they boy tortured her in front of him for an hour.

He'd simply been horrified when he realized she wasn't responding to him. He had no idea what had caused it or what he could do.

He couldn't do anything.

For once he wasn't in control, or free and it hurt.

Shika was in danger and there was nothing he could do but watch as they bruised her skin, cut into her shoulders and broke her arm.

That hurt too, a deep painful ache and an urge to help he could not heed.

They did something much, much worse to her. Not the Pineapple Boy, Kyouya was fairly sure he had no idea, but another of his minions.

That broke something in him.

He wasn't sure what but it made him so angry, horrified and... so, so sad.

He spent the rest of that day straining against his restraints to curl close to her.

It wouldn't give her comfort or at least not much but it helped him feel just the tiniest bit better.

It happened again.

Kyouya felt like he was going to be sick.

It was his fault she was here.

Or so Pineapple Boy said.

Kyouya had never felt so guilty in his life.

Today.

Pineapple Boy grinned as he pressed hard against Shika's chest and Kyouya heard a sickening crack, trying to make him talk though about what Kyouya had no idea. Shika screamed and then fell silent. Fear, guilt and dread settled in his stomach.

There were crashes from down the hallway.

The Herbivore- no, Sawada, had come to save them.

He freed Kyouya and all of his raging cloud instincts, hatred, and worry came crashing in with the return of his flames.

Pineapple Boy regretted that now Kyouya was sure.

He deserved it and so much more.

Reborn seemed to understand, at least a little bit because he prevented anyone from interfering with their fight.

Then a whole new group, each attached to Shika somehow, had burst in and started helping.

Kyouya was actually glad for the help.

Shika woke and it was the most wonderfully hopeful, glorious moment of his life.

The hug he found himself in relieved a lot of his stress.

To be honest just touching her relieved a lot of it. "I'm so sorry." he whispered into her hair "Don't be. " she whispered back.

He didn't think he could follow that instruction.

Chapter Text

After a minute gentle hands rested on Shika's shoulders.

Sirius, how could she have forgotten he was there?

She turned away slightly but didn't let go of Kyouya, there behind her were several of her friends.

"I'm so glad you're here." she whispered to them and they all smiled, grimly but still.

"We need to get you to a hospital, Shika." said Sirius gently which seemed to make Kyouya remember that she was still injured because he stood and carefully held her to his chest. He'd picked her up bridal style. Shika blushed slightly too exhausted for much more of a reaction, Sirius's eyes narrowed as he gazed at her crush.

But he allowed Kyouya to carry her all the way to the hospital which was nice.

The doctor, a nice lady named Lily, carefully explained the damages Shika had sustained over the past four days.

All Shika's friends looked ready to rage but Shika herself?

All she could feel was sadness, and compassion for Kyouya who'd seen it all happen.

Once the check up was completed and her arm put in a cast the doctor left them alone.

Airi approached cautiously "Can I... hug you kiddo?" she asked softly and Shika nodded numbly.

Having someone hug her brought all her emotions pouring out and she couldn't stop the tears.

The others slowly, one by one, piled into a group hug.  It made her feel warm and safe, like if they were here nothing could hurt her anymore.

"Do you want to come home with us?" Sirius asked and Shika shook her head immediately.

Hibari Manor had become so much like home she wasn't sure she could leave it. It was hers just as much as it was Kyouya's or Lady Hibari's, though she should probably ask if she could stay first.

"You found a nest didn't you." Sirius said knowingly with a sigh. "Just be careful, okay?"

That might be difficult. Shika nodded and Sirius hugged her once more.

"I'm glad you're okay Potter." Draco told her and Neville nodded while Luna simply hugged her tighter.

"Thanks guys." She said with a smile.

"So, uh, was that invitation extendable to me?" Asked Airi awkwardly breaking the silence and making Sirius laugh weakly "Sure thing Airi!" he told her.

Kyouya glared at the Pineapple Boy from across the room as the doctor wrapped his apparently strained wrist.

Sawada was acting so nice to Pineapple Boy it was obvious he didn't know what had actually happened to them,  what he'd done.

"So. A sky." Said Reborn pulling his mind away from the Pineapple Boy.

Kyouya didn't wince but he did nod.

Reborn frowned and Kyouya wished he was better at reading people just so he could tell what the small human was thinking.
