Looking in his eyes, a basketball between them feels like a deja vu.
He’s so familiar with those eyes, so familiar with this smile, so familiar with this face, so familiar with the person in front of him.
Once again he gets lost in those mesmerizing eyes, lost in their beauty and richness of the dark colour. Once again he almost doesn’t notice how his stunning opponent steals the ball right from his hands, turns around with a playful wink and proceeds to score.
Honestly he can’t even care that he just cost his team precious points; he's too enchanted with the gorgeous physique and talented play of his boyfriend. And of course said boyfriend is more than aware of the effect he has on him.
Luckily for him they’re just playing among their friends and none of them is seriously mad at him for almost gifting the ball to the opposing team. They’re just playing among themselves, in their little bubble of happiness, playing without any worry of another useless competition or another fight between their teammates.
No, they’re just by themselves enjoying each other’s presence and the bubbling energy.
When they’re taking a break from the game his sweet and caring boyfriend is quick to hand him a bottle of water and no matter how small this gesture may seem it means the world to him. Whenever his boyfriend is with him it’s almost like he doesn’t have to worry about a single thing, like he can fall and never has to fear to hit the ground. Because he’s always there to catch him, always there to keep him safe and to love him.
But no matter how sweet he is, Junhyung’s also insufferable playful. It’s like he lights up under Sungho’s attention, like he blooms whenever he receives a smile or like the world is okay when the older of the two of them plays with his long hair. Because maybe it is. Maybe their world is okay when they can just enjoy each other’s presence. Maybe their world is okay when Sungho braids little tails in his dyed hair and maybe their world is okay when Junhyung steals the ball from him and scores a goal with a smile as if he’s won the olympics. Maybe their world really is okay when they’re just with each other.
And because his world is so perfectly okay he doesn’t even complain when Junhyung tugs at his hand, making him sit down next to him just to use him as something to lean on, just to put his head on his boyfriend’s shoulder and enjoy the comfortable warmth radiating from his body. Sure, they’re all sweating from playing basketball under the radiating sun but never would he miss a chance to cuddle up to Sungho.
Latter bounces the ball easily between his legs, his eyes on Taeyeob and Kyubin who’re currently riding the oldest person’s motorcycle around the basketball court. The two of them have been dating for around three years now but they’re still as whipped for each other and so sickeningly lovey-dovey that Sungho for sure would’ve thrown up by now if he and Junhyung weren’t the exact same.
They all know that Taeyeob isn’t the biggest fan of motorcycles, he considers them dangerous and filthy but as soon as Kyubin offers to ride it with him he’s quick to agree. For everyone but the dense oldest it is painfully obvious that he is using it as a chance to cuddle up closer to him. As if he needs an excuse to do so.
His body’s pressed close to the one riding the bike, his arms closed securely around his waist and his chin rested comfortably on his shoulder. He never wants to let go, hold him close for as long as he can, never wants to leave this machine created by the devil himself. Though he might have to change his mind about this ride from hell if Kyubin kisses his forehead one more time.
Sungho realizes he stared at the two just a few seconds too long when his boyfriend interlaces their hands, giving them a tight squeeze just to capture both of his hands in Junhyung’s own and using his free one to tickle his boyfriend. Of course Junhyung knows exactly how sensitive he is in those certain spots and of course he is using it for his own advantage. He knows just how weak he gets when he’s tickled, knows perfectly how he just laughs and laughs without being able to do anything. It’s adorable.
Sure, tickles make him weak but the absolute adoration in his boyfriend’s eyes as he carefully wrestles him down to the ground makes his bones weak and his heart beat faster than he ever imagined to be possible.
When he lies on his back Junhyung finally removes his hands from Sungho’s waist and just smiles this dorky, adorable smile at him as if he doesn’t know the effect it has on him. But of course he does know as he proves once again with kissing him gently.
He’s never going to get enough of them. He’s never going to get enough of this tingling feeling in his stomach, never will get enough of the feeling to be treasured and cared for, never enough of the absolute and pure love he’s feeling right in those moments.
The first time he met Kim Junhyung was during a competition of their basketball teams. During the game Junhyung accidentally tackled Sungho to the ground as his ponytail got loose and his hair blocked his eyes completely. Unfortunately they were midgame and he didn’t have a chance to fix his hair quickly enough before running into the opposing player which ended up with him getting an injured knee and both of them having to leave the game.
Naturally a very concerned and worrying person Junhyung decided to check on the stranger he ran over, the guilt eating him alive. If only he tied his hair properly, if only he stopped running for a quick second to fix his ponytail, if only he wasn’t so careless, the other player would be alright.
Only when he finally found “Rie” did he recognize him to be the unfairly pretty opponent he talked to for a short while at the vending machine before the game started.
His soft voice had drawn him into his ban within seconds, the sparkling eyes looking as if they’re able to lighten up every dull day and his gorgeous smile radiating warmth and sunshine which immediately made him feel comfortable around the supposedly opponent.
When he finally mustered up the courage to apologize to Rie the latter just smiled and interrupted any further attempted apologies.
In his eyes the other person didn’t do anything wrong, he’s just chosen an unfortunate haircut. When he told Junhyung exactly that he was rewarded with the most beautiful laugh he’s ever heard and he decided right there and then that he never wants to live without that laugh again.
As an apology Junhyung offered him a friendly coffee hang out, just to make up for the injury. This friendly apology hang out was quick to change into something far more than friendly, their casual talks soon turning into flirting and Junhyung asking him out to an actual date after the third time.
A few months and many dates as well as a few kisses on the cheeks or the forehead later Sungho finally asked him to be his boyfriend, a date that’s marked very specially and prettily in all his calendars.
Eventually though the two of them break apart, the tingling feeling lingering in their stomachs. Sometimes it doesn’t feel real to Junhyung that he got so lucky to have Sungho as his boyfriend. Not only is he one of the most beautiful people Junyung’s ever seen but he also has the most mesmerizing personality he’s ever encountered. Sungho’s extremely shy, especially when he gets flirted with or when his boyfriend brags about him. But then he is also teasing him at any given opportunity, he’s one of the funniest people he knows, he's extremely kind and he cares so much. He cares so much about anything and anyone that it concerns him sometimes. While he cares for everyone around him, does he care for himself enough as well?
And sometimes Sungho has those random outbursts of confidence that he’s always embarrassed about as soon as they’re over. But Junhyung loves them and maybe that’s why he tries to love them as well.
One of the first times they played basketball together outside of their teams or a competition, just for the fun of it, Sungho overbent his wrist when he tried to catch the ball from his teammate. It didn’t really hurt but Junhyung still insisted to wrap a bandage around it just so that it won’t get worse when they continue playing.
First Sungho wanted to complain, he’s not a little kid after all but something in the way Junhyung looked at him when he grabbed his wrist stopped him from muttering a single word. All his focus is directed towards his injury, his eyes directed towards his wrist with such an intense sensation it’s kind of overwhelming for Sungho. In his eyes was nothing but pure care, nothing but sincere worry and an attentiveness that under other circumstances would have made Sungho cry.
If he wasn’t completely smitten already, right in this moment we would’ve fallen in love with Kim Junhyung.
This day they didn’t part until it was really dark outside already, time flying faster than any of them realized. How can hours pass like they’re minutes? How can suns set and paint the world in beautiful shades of read and orange without having them notice it? How can it get colder and colder with every passing second without anyone registering it? How can time fly around them while it stays still in their little bubble of happiness?
Before he did leave after they finally realized the darkened surroundings, Junhyung took his hand once again, softly caressing the bandage. To Sungho it doesn’t make sense but he is not going to stop the other to stop the affection shown towards him, he thrives off the care and attention payed to him, thrives of the loving, longing way Junhyung looks at him, thrives off this feeling in his stomach. Junhyung makes him feel special in a way he’s never felt before.
---- ❀ ----
Being close to Sungho is his favorite thing in the world, his favorite place to be at. Simply being embraced by him makes standing in front of Kyubin’s (or was it Taeyeob’s? None of them remember at this point) old truck feel like the most magical place to be at, makes him feel like the boring and dull trees around him sparkle in a beautiful dark green. Everything seems more beautiful, more mesmerizing, more special when he’s with Sungho. Because to him, he is special.
And maybe it is silly of him to enjoy standing between his boyfriend’s legs, back pressed close to his chest, as much as he does but frankly, he doesn’t care. He’s in love, he’s whipped and he has every right to be. Because there’s nothing wrong with being in love.
Sometimes he wonders if he really enjoyed the things he loves with Sungho if it wasn’t for him. Would he really enjoy sitting in a truck that’s driving pretty fast, shaking from the uneven road, dangerously close to falling out every few seconds? Or is he only enjoying this because he’s holding Sungho’s hand securely in his own? Because he bumps his head onto him? Because his knee presses closely on his knee? Because it is Sungho next to him that laughs as if he’s having the time of his life?
Because as soon as they parked and Sungho let go of his hand he couldn’t wait to get out of this car, as soon Sungho’s not touching him anymore this whole idea doesn’t seem as fun anymore and he wonders how he could ever agree to that. Deep inside he knows the answer for this as well. Because Sungho enjoys it and he would never do anything to be in the way of his joy.
Suddenly he feels a soft touch on his hair making him look up just to look right into Sungho’s beautiful smile. Of course his boyfriend knows how much he loves it when he plays with his hair, how much he enjoys it when he softly scratches the top of his head or braids little tails in it. And of course he knows he gets Junhyung’s attention immediately when he does so.
Truthfully so he looks up into the sparkling eyes of his boyfriend who looks back at him with the most innocent smile he can muster. No, he really can't believe how he got so lucky. Just being able to look at Sungho up close, being able to call him his boyfriend and kiss him is much more than he'd ever dared to dream.
Overwhelmed by the amount of love he's feeling for the other he almost wants to cry. Sungho's truly doing things to him he never expected to experience, to feel or to enjoy.
Sometimes he wonders if he can show his feelings, his love properly, if his boyfriend knows just how much he adores him, just how much he loves him, how important he is to him and how insanely happy he is to have him in his life. How he can't and doesn't want to imagine a life without him anymore.
He presses a chaste kiss on Sungho's lips. Jungyung's always been better with actions than words and right now he has to channel this overwhelming love towards the most precious person he's ever met.
He's rewarded with the brightest smile and the most beautiful laugh of the whole universe.
