Work Text:
« You know », Venti said, looking particularly unimpressed, « when I heard 'there is only one bed', that's not what I thought would happen. »
She chuckled. « Oh? Did you think we would share it and wake up in each other' arms, like in a true love story? »
He sighed very dramatically. « Actually, yes, I was expecting something like that. »
Grumbles could be heard from the bed. « Paimon is trying to sleep here! »
« So are we », complained the bard, « except we're sleeping on the cold, hard floor because someone decided to take the whole bed for herself! »
« You have covers and pillows and sleeping bags. Paimon doesn't understand why you're complaining, Tone-Deaf Bard. »
« You should be the one sleeping here while Lumine and I are on the bed! »
« Uh uh », she refuted, « the two of you would have never fit together anyway. »
Venti looked ready to answer but she tentatively put her hand on his mouth to silence him. It was hard to aim in the dark and her hand only half landed on the right location, but that was enough to shut him up anyway.
« Give up, Paimon is more stubborn than you. »
The fairy giggled but didn't answer, and a few seconds later, her snores were resonating in the room. Despite everything, Lumine couldn't hold back a soft smile. At least someone would be having a goodnight, and she could always use it against her the following day.
« You're too nice with her », grumbled the bard.
« Maybe », she humed. She wiggled to be closer to him, until she could vaguely see his vibrant eyes in the darkness of the room. « You don't have to stay here, you know. »
« And miss the chance to spend the night with you? Only a fool would refuse this opportunity », he teased.
Her cheeks were burning and she lightly slapped his shoulder, causing him to giggle. Of course he would word it like that to embarrass her.
« You're the worst. »
« And yet you love me », he sing-songed.
She could tell he tried to aim for cheerful, but she could hear the underlying doubt in his voice. She wished she could prove to him that she really loved him the way he was, but fighting his centuries of self-doubts and insecurities would take time. It was a fight she was ready to partake in though, and so she leaned in and pressed her forehead against his.
« I do », she murmured, « I love you. »
Even in the dark, she could see his blinding grin, and she smiled in return.
« Let's sleep. We have commissions to complete tomorrow, and if you're nice I'll even buy you a bottle of dandelion wine as a thanks. »
« Now that's an offer I cannot refuse. Well then, goodnight, my dear Lumine. »
She pressed a chaste kiss against his lips and smiled when he let out a soft sigh.
« Goodnight, Venti. »
