When Loki first sees the car in the distance, his first thought is threat . No one survived this place, he’d been told, which meant anyone brave (or stupid) enough to drive right towards the big angry cloud was probably bad news.
And then the car stopped, and someone came out. Even though it was far away, he knows exactly who it is. The green and the posture are a dead giveaway.
“Sylvie!”
As he ran towards her, he wondered how she got here in the first place. Did Judge Renslayer prune her? How did she get the advantage? And what was the current status of the TVA?
All those questions left his mind when someone else left the car.
Mobius.
He’s alive.
When he’d first gotten pruned, and found out he was still alive, he’d hoped that Mobius was too. But with the huge angry cloud, he’d put that hope at the back of his mind.
“You’re okay!”
Time passed differently in the TVA, Loki knew, but the sight of Mobius disintegrating before his eyes was ingrained into his brain, and he doubted it would go away. He wanted to say more, to fully make sure that Mobius wasn’t hurt, but the other versions of himself had caught up to them. He couldn’t afford to lose their respect and trust, not now.
So instead, he focused his attention on Sylvie. And lo and behold, she was already going to attack the other Lokis.
Internally rolling his eyes - brute force again, really? - he went to stop her. They had a cloud to kill.
( Yes, that makes sense. Stop laughing! )
Ok, so killing the cloud may not have been his best plan, but really, how was enchanting it any better? Obviously, Loki was the better plan maker of the two. How was it that no one else saw that?
He’d agreed to try it, but only because Sylvie was too stubborn to bother arguing with any longer.
That’s how they ended up there, on top of a little hill. Sylvie had given him the TemPad she’d stolen, and her message was clear: go back. I’ll be fine.
But he couldn’t just leave her here, could he? Loki would never admit to caring for her or liking her, but at the very least, he could stop her from getting herself killed.
Or laugh at her if enchantment didn’t work after all.
So he handed the TemPad to Mobius. “I’m going.”
The other Lokis refused the opportunity to go back with him, and Loki understood. Even if they were able to defeat the TVA, they wouldn’t be able to go back to their timelines. Those were gone forever. The familiarity they had here was dreary, but they were done fighting.
It made Loki wonder what he would do, once this was all over?
As they walked away, Loki couldn’t help asking Mobius:
“What are you going to do when you get back to the TVA?”
“Burn it to the ground.” Loki couldn’t help grinning (a little). “Thanks for the spark.”
Loki wished this moment could last longer; Mobius smiling a genuine smile that Loki had no problem returning. But too soon, it ended. Mobius extended his hand. “See you around, Loki.”
For all his pride about how calculated he was, Loki’s next move threw all caution to the wind. He ignored the hand, stepped forward, and engulfed Mobius in a hug.
For a split second, Loki panicked, scared he’d crossed a line, but then he felt hands on his back, and he just let himself enjoy the embrace...
...until he made another split second decision.
He pulled back slightly, moved his own hands upward, and pressed his lips to Mobius’ own.
Whatthehelldidyoujustdofuckfuckfuckabort-
Loki pulled back again, ready to put bravado on and make a joke to smooth over the situation, hating how vulnerable he felt, but all of a sudden their lips were touching again, but this time it was Mobius leaning towards him , and Loki doesn’t think he’s ever felt more alive, because the kiss is magical and electric and real …
… And then it’s over, and Mobius is looking at him with the goofiest smile, and try as he might, Loki can’t banish his own from his face. “Thank you. For everything.”
If Loki hadn’t been so entranced, he might've noticed Sylvie winking at Mobius, and Mobius winking back. As it was, he only came back when he heard Mobius saying “Bye, Loki.” And then he was gone.
Loki was staring at the spot where Mobius had disappeared, in pure euphoria, until someone had to go and ruin the moment.
Loki heard a long, high whistle to his right, and when he looked over, Sylvie was smirking at him with the biggest smirk on her face.
Scoffing, he turned and started walking, using magic to conceal what he was sure was an embarrassing blush.
“So… this your first time?”
“Shut up.”
“Oh, come on, don’t be an ass!”
“I said shut up.”
“I just have one question!”
Rolling his eyes, Loki relented. “What?”
“Is he a good kisser?”
“ Shut up. ”
Laughing, Sylvie caught up with him, and walked in step with him toward, hopefully, all the answers.
(He still didn't think enchantment was going to work, though. )
