Dream expected a lot of things to happen after he took a break, maybe L’Manburg would calm down, maybe they could become peaceful and not start any more wars or violence, maybe Dream wouldn’t be painted as the Villain anymore. And he was taking a break for those things to happen. Even though he hadn’t told George and Sapnap what he was planning, he was very sure it’d be alright.
It was in fact, not alright.
Dream had walked out of his house with his inventory full and ready to go on an adventure only to be interrupted by XD just floating by the forest where he was about to enter. The sight of this caused Dream to stop and just stare at him.
“Dee? What in the world are you doing here?” Dream said furrowing his brow as he looked up at XD, who was just staring down at him.
“I should be asking you that, why do you look like you are leaving the server, Dream.” XD’s voice was a mimic of his own, though it was in a harsher tone.
Dream quickly shook his head. He preferred to not get struck by lightning because of this misunderstanding. “No, I am not leaving the server. I am just leaving the area for a short vacation.”
XD’s mask tilted to the side as he looked down at Dream. “So you’re leaving your server, just going on a vacation?”
Dream opened his mouth to retort something back before closing his mouth again and rubbing the back of his head.
“Technically I’m not going to leave for long, a few days at most, maybe less. I don’t think anything could go wrong while I'm gone, since you are here as well as Drista. Although she doesn’t come out of the End much. However, if anything goes wrong for the next few days I am sure It’ll be fine.”
XD just continued to stare at him without saying anything else for a few minutes. He seemed to be thinking as he got closer to Dream’s mask, his own tilting.
“And when your friends try to find you because you went missing without telling them? What then? You’ll be dragged back here before you even have a moment to enjoy your break.”
Dream’s eyes narrowed as he looked at XD through his mask. He didn’t quite know where this was going yet, but he didn’t trust the situation.
“I don’t quite get what you’re trying to imply, XD. I left them a note that specified not to find me for a few days. They shouldn’t come after me so long as they find that.”
XD made a sound similar to a laugh as he looked at Dream. It wasn’t a normal laugh, it was clearly a laugh of someone planning something.Though clearly not something good.
“Ah, but they wouldn’t need to come find you if someone was already in your place now would they, Dream?”
Dream was starting to like this conversation less and less. The way XD was acting was incredibly suspicious. Dream took a step back from the floating god. What in the world was he planning?
“I guess so? But the person who replaces me would have to be able to act perfectly like me. Even if you were to replace me, you can’t just summon a Dreamon to do it. Who knows what destruction that would cause to the server? I don’t think you nor I want that.”
XD laughed again, lowering himself onto the ground and stepping towards Dream, getting right up to Dream’s mask and putting his hand on Dream’s shoulder.
“Dream, I never said that I’d use a Dreamon. I could stand in for you. I know you very well after all. Not to mention I can mimic everything you do. I can even mimic what you look like! I can do everything you can do and more.”
Dream narrowed his eyes at XD. He did not trust this situation but he might as well try to figure out what in the world he was planning.
“Okay, and? There's clearly a motive behind this. Mind telling me what it is?”
XD waved one of his hands around at the question, seeming to take mock offense at the question before shrugging it off.
“I’ll answer that question after you answer one of mine. Favorite animal, Dream?”
Dream tilted his head slightly, he was extremely confused where this question came from. This inquiry was extremely random, from Dreams perspective at least.
“Sheep I guess? I don’t quite understand where that question came from. However, the matter is that you’re avoiding my questions and that’s not going to work.”
XD put his hands together, seeming to be very glad with Dream’s response first, his mask spinning around before it stabilized.
“Great! That’s fantastic! As to answer your question, there is no motive. I promise. Now I need you to give me your mask, and if you do not do it willingly, I will force it off your head.”
Dream just stared at his mouth open slightly before he quickly started to back up. However, he didn’t take his eyes off of XD who was just staring at him through the mask. A few moments of silence passed. Then suddenly XD was in front of him, yanking Dream’s mask off of him and pushing him onto the floor holding Dream’s mask victoriously.
“Why thank you for giving that up! Now I can take your place and you can go on your vacation!”
XD giggled. ” Of course, to the place I choose.”
Dream was stunned for a second before he made a move to stand, only to be pushed down onto the ground by XD’s foot once more.
“Now, we don’t want you attacking me. After all, I am the one helping you!”
XD then slipped Dream’s mask over his own, his body starting to glow green as his vaporized morph started to change. His mask morphs into an iconic smile instead of his usual “XD”. Meanwhile, his clothes slowly became more solid, turning into a green hoodie. XD then lifted his mask off revealing nothing but a black void, much like you’d see in the end. The now-clone of Dream tilting his head.
“See? I am a perfect copy of you! So long as I don’t take off the mask, what would this matter?”He cackled, motioned to his void-face. “They’ve never seen your face anyway! Even if my mask came off, they could assume this is your real appearance.”
Dream took a moment processing this information, his mouth open as if he were going to say something. He quickly closed it again, not wanting to anger the god. Then merely glared at XD.
“I can tell you are planning something, and I do not think it’s a good thing,”Dream stated.
XD made a wheezing sound, his voice starting to mimic Dream’s own tone a lot more than it had been before. XD lifted his hands and the ground started to turn black underneath Dream.
“I do hope you have fun on your vacation, especially considering...you won't be coming back any time soon,”The god stated calmly.
At that moment,the world went back around Dream before the blonde could even scream.
