Chapter 3: Diary entries in 2018

Chapter Text

February 9th
Another preseason training, another day I'm last off the track. Even Mason Cox headed inside before me, and he's notorious for being last. Just wish Bucks could notice my efforts.

March 22nd
I turned 24. Still only have 35 games in all my years at the club. Brodie made me a cake and when I blew out the candles, I just wished for the club to make the grand final. We've had enough pain.

March 31st
Tried some stupid soccer goal and broke my leg. Right in front of Nolan Gould (Luke from Modern Family). Disaster all round.

May 5th
Got my mate to drive me to Werribee for the reserves game. Needed to get out of the house. Was going stir crazy.

May 18th
Finally off the crutches. Went to the St Kilda game to celebrate. We won but Faz was sulking in the rooms and brought down the mood. Get over it, we all get injuries.

June 24th
Brodie was electric after half time. He just dominated everything. I've been giving him pump-ups at the half time break. All credit to me, obviously.

July 3rd
Got the scooter out and rode around the track during training. The physio thinks it's great, he's impressed with the muscles building up in my legs. I just do it to keep an eye on Brodie.

September 6th
Lynden Dunn dressed as Redfoo and scooted around the track. That's my thing. He thinks he's so great, everyone talks him up as the best clubman, but really he's just some spud who couldn't get a game at Melbourne. We all saw the reserves grand final, Dunny didn't even know which shoulder Lin Jong had injured.

September 16th
Been watching the finals with the other guys on the sidelines. Faz was in front of me and at one point I caught him looking at Patrick Cripps' highlights on his phone.

September 22nd
Brodie kicked the sealer and WE WON BABY WE'RE IN THE GRAND FINAL. MY BIRTHDAY WISH CAME TRUE. Wish I could be out there though. Brodie's gonna look so hot with a premiership medal around his neck.

September 24th
Got hard thinking about Brodie shirtless with the Norm Smith, like Fyfe after the 2015 Brownlow. My girlfriend was asleep so I had to finish myself off. She questioned the wet sheets in the morning.

September 29th
Game day. The big dance. Texted Faz at quarter time to ask where he was and he texted back that he was sitting with his friend Patrick. Who is Patrick???? We're all meant to sit together. Even Sam Murray was with us.
Anyway, game was a fizzer. Just flat. Boys played so well, footy's just unfair sometimes.
I avoided eye contact with everyone in the rooms and went home early. Absolute mood killer.

December 10th
All the boys are back for preseason but it's weirdly quiet and peaceful. Almost too quiet.
I think I miss Faz. Is this what Stockholm Syndrome is?
