Chapter Text
Asgard
Morning
As the sun rose over Asgard, the Avengers and their allies prepared themselves for the massive undertaking they were about to undertake.
Tony’s face plate closed as he completed his suit up.
Vision emerged from his quarters, his cape flowing as he walked down the hall.
Wanda put on her jacket, opening her palms to let red energy course through it.
Bucky grabbed his rifle, holding it in hand as he emerged from his room.
Outside the palace, Bruce was meditating on the ground. He opened his eyes, which flashed greened, before, slowly he began enlarging, his skin turning green as he transformed. And, once he had completely taken the place of Banner, the Hulk let out a mighty roar.
On a mountain, Sam’s wings deployed before he took off into the air, headed towards the palace.
T’Challa was in his room, opening his eyes before the Black Panther suit emerged, covering his entire body.
The face plate came down over Rhodey’s face before the man exited his room, ready for the fight.
Scott and Hope put on their suits, shrinking down before exiting their room.
Quill grabbed his blasters as Gamora grabbed a knife.
Drax had two knifes in hand, readying himself for his revenge.
Rocket had his gun at the ready as he exited his room.
Clint grabbed his Vibrainum bow, giving it a whirl before grabbing his quiver and strapping it to his back.
Loki grabbed a few daggers before walking out of the room.
Thor held Mjolnir in one hand and Strombreaker in another, his eyes flashing with lightning.
In their room, Natasha made sure her Widow’s Bite was charged as Steve grabbed his shield.
“Avengers…Assemble.”
Later, the Avengers, Loki, the Warriors Three, Valkyrie, the Guardians and the armies of Asgard stood behind Thor as he stood before the Bifrost.
“We’re ready, Heimdall,” Thor said, his voice firm as his oldest friend looked at him solemnly.
“I know.”
With those words, Heimdall turned the sword and the group was consumed by the Bifrost.
Dathomir
Shortly after
The army appeared on the planet when the Bifrost struck the ground. While the Asgardians seemed uninterested in their surroundings, the Avengers looked around.
It was a planet with large, grassy plains and a green sky. There were at least three suns in the sky.
“Not what I expected, but could be worse,” Tony mused.
“What did you imagine?” T’Challa asked curiously and Tony shrugged.
“I don’t know; something like Tatooine. A desert planet or something like that.”
“Nay, Stark. Dathomir is a planet lush with life,” Thor said, looking around before pointing West. “If I am right, this is where we were told to meet the leader of Dathomir.”
“Then we better not keep them waiting,” Steve said before the army began to move towards the direction Thor had pointed.
A little while later, they came upon what seemed to be a settlement. It could have been any street in New York, except kids weren’t playing. Instead, there was movement in preparations. Someone emerged from the village and walked over to greet them.
“Danvers,” Thor said in greeting when she reached them and Carol nodded.
“They’ve been waiting,” Carol said before gesturing them to follow her.
The followed her into the village, looking around as they did. The people on this planet were green; the males tall and muscular while the females seemed an inch shorter than the males. The females were helping the children, moving them away while the males seemed to be preparing for the coming battle, gathering weapons.
Carol led Thor, Steve, Natasha and Tony over to a tent while the rest of their army stayed outside. Inside the tent, Nebula, Mantis and Groot stood, Nebula talking to one of the natives, a male wearing a robe that seemed to signify he was someone of great importance.
“And you must be the Avengers,” the male said as he caught sight of him.
“Aye. I am Thor Odinson, king of Asgard. This is Steve Rogers of Earth, leader of the Avengers, his right hand, Natasha Romanoff and their chief scientist, Tony Stark,” Thor made the introductions.
“Welcome to Dathomir. In your language, I would be called Life Bringer,” Life Bringer said as he walked forward, holding out a hand to Thor, who shook. “Thank you for coming, and the warning.”
“Thanos is a plague that threatens us all. We must stand together to stop him,” Thor said as he took Life Bringer’s hand in a handshake.
“Thanos and his forces will be on their way. Are your people ready?” Steve asked and Life Bringer looked at him long and hard.
“The people of Dathomir will not go quietly into the night. If Thanos thinks he can slaughter us, he will have another thing coming.”
“I have a feeling you and I are gonna get along just fine,” Tony said, his face plate lifting to reveal a smirk.
Later, the armies of Asgard and Dathomir stood shoulder to shoulder with the Avengers, waiting.
“We’re sure he’s coming?” Scott asked uncertainly.
“My father is nothing if not predictable. He will be here,” Nebula said, her voice filled with certainty.
As if summoned by Nebula’s words, a shadow fell over the area. They looked up, seeing Thanos’s ship hovering in the sky.
Then, in a beam of light, Thanos appeared, the Thanoscopter gripped in one hand. His army appeared behind him in blue light, Maw, Cull, Midnight and Glaive standing by his side. Thanos regarded the Avengers for a moment before speaking.
“Avengers. You are a long way from earth.”
“And you are trespassing on this planet,” Life Bringer said as he stepped forward. “Leave now, or we will defend ourselves.”
“Stand down now, and you will be allowed to live, to lead your people,” Thanos offered and Life Bringer sneered.
“We will surrender when you pay for all that you have done. We shall surrender when all the innocents you have slaughtered rise from their graves! When your head is mounted for all to see, as punishment for your crimes!” Life Bringer snarled and Thanos smiled unpleasantly.
“So be it.”
With those words, the two sides rushed each other, determined to end this battle one way or another.
Tony and Carol immediately flew into the air, firing repulsor beams and energy blasts at the enemy respectively. As their attacks hit the Outriders, Rhodey took off into the air, flying along the enemy and dropping explosives along the way. The Blasts went off just before Scott threw a small gas truck, which enlarged and as caught in the explosion, enlarging it and taking out more Outriders.
Hulk roared as he launched himself into the air, coming down on Cull. They began beating each other as Hope, at her full size, blasted a few Outriders. One tried to sneak behind her but she shrunk down. It missed her and she then enlarged, blasting it in the back. With a roar, Thor backhanded Cull, sending Cull flying.
Bucky fired his rifle at the Outriders, standing alongside the Dathomirian soldiers, who fired large blasters. The energy bolts struck the Outriders, taking them out with one shot.
“Gotta get me one of those,” Rocket muttered as he fired his own gun.
Maw was using his powers to lift several nearby objects into the air, preparing to attack when a blast of red energy struck him from behind, sending him flying. Wanda landed a few feet away as Maw began to get back to his feet. Her hand glowing red, Wanda made a sharp movement and there was a crack as Maw’s head turned to an unnatural angle before he fell to the ground, dead.
Steve threw his shield, pushing back some Outriders as Natasha used her Widow’s bite to send Midnight back, the alien hissing in pain but not falling. It was then, with a roar, Thor jumped down, slamming both Mjolnir and Stormbreaker onto the ground. The blow sent powerful streams of electricity across the area, Midnight crying out as she was struck, along with several Outriders.
Seeing this, Thanos snarled before spotting Vision fighting alongside Quill, shooting a powerful beam that fried several Outriders.
Seeing this, Thanos moved towards Vision when Drax suddenly jumped on his back, bringing down his daggers on Thanos’s back.
“For my wife and daughter!” Drax snarled.
Snarling in annoyance, Thanos easily grabbed Drax and threw him off his back, sending the other man on the ground.
“That was a mistake,” Thanos said, picking up his Thanoscopter.
Before he could strike however, Nebula rushed forward, striking him across the face with her Electric Baton. Thanos, taken by surprise, stumbled back before branches wrapped around his arms, restraining him.
“I am Groot!” Groot declared as he continued extending his arms around Thanos.
Life Bringer was firing a blaster at an Outrider when Glaive tackled him to the ground, knocking the blaster out of his hand. Glaive was about to stab Life Bringer with his blade when an arrow flew out, striking the blade from his hand, following by a burst of kinetic energy that sent him flying. Life Bringer got to his feet, nodding at Clint in thanks.
“You shall regret that, archer,” Glaive sneered as he got to his feet, grabbing his blade.
“Made you look,” Clint said with a grin.
Glaive only had a moment to ponder this when Sam flew down, striking him in the back with his swing. Glaive went down before Sam pulled out his pistols, firing and getting Glaive right between the eyes.
Thanos managed to break out of Groot’s hold with his strength before throwing his Thanoscopter. Nebula dodged but Drax wasn’t fast enough and the Guardians watched, horrified as he was split in half from the blade.
Quill roared in anger and grief as he flew towards Thanos, who caught the Thanoscopter on the return. Thanos spun his blade in a circle, deflecting Quill’s attacks before grabbing Quill by the legs and slamming him on the ground. Gamora rushed forward, attempting to strike Thanos in the neck with her knife only for Thanos to grab her by the throat.
“I apologize, my dear, but you will not stop me,” Thanos said before slamming her down to the ground as well.
With a roar, Hulk jumped down, attempting to strike Thanos but, to his shock, Thanos stopped his fist with one hand. Shooting Hulk a smirk, Thanos headbutted him before delivering a series of punches and kicks that incapacitated the green Avenger.
“You should pick your fights more carefully, beast.”
The warrior three were attempting to fight off Cull but Cull brought forth his hammer, which then transformed as it fired at three. They jumped away before T’Challa jumped down, unleashing a discharge of Kinetic Energy. Cull was thrown back by the energy before Volstagg jumped forward, bringing down his axe on Cull’s head.
Thanos picked up his Thanoscopter before Carol flew over at high speed, firing a blast at him. Thanos attempted to deflect with his Thanoscopter but the blast of energy knocked it right out of his hand. Carol then grabbed him by his neck, preparing another energy blast and Thanos knew there was only one way he would survive this.
“Rain fire!”
At Thanos’s order, the ship that hovered in the sky began raining down blaster fire on the entire battlefield. Carol was distracted enough for Thanos to headbutt her, making her leg go before she was struck by a blast, being sent flying.
The blaster fire killed several of their Dathomir allies, along with multiple Outriders as Life Bringer attempted to lead them to safety. Hulk used his body as a shield, protecting the remaining Guardians as everyone else ran, trying desperately to avoid the blasters.
All except for Thor, who stared up at the ship, his eyes flashing with lightning. Then, the biggest lightning blast in history (even bigger than the one they had seen Thor use in the recordings against Hela) came down from the sky, striking Thanos’s ship. The firing stopped as there was an explosion, the ship falling to the surface, on fire.
Thanos stared in utter shock before he was in the back by something. He turned around as Steve’s shield bounced off him as it returned to Steve’s hand.
“Brave, but foolish,” Thanos said as he picked up the Thanoscopter. “You will die braver than most, Captain.”
Sam flew in as Bucky ran over, both firing their weapons at Thanos as Steve threw his shield again. Thanos deflected the shield back with his double edged sword before swinging his sword down, taking off Bucky’s mechanical arm. Bucky cried out, falling to his knees as he dropped the gun. Thanos the grabbed Sam by his wings and then the human to the ground, hand enough to create a small crater.
Tony then flew in, firing a missile at Thanos. Thanos ppun the Thanoscopter, the missile impacting on it harmlessly. Tony and Steve both rushed forward, Tony firing a repulsor beam that Thanos easily deflected by spinning the blade. Steve called Mjolnir before holding it up in the air, calling down a stream of lightning. Thanos grunted, stopping in his attack before turning his sword slightly, reflecting the beam enough to strike the ground near Steve, sending the first Avenger flying back.
“Cap!” Tony called out before Thanos threw his sword at him.
Tony managed to avoid it but wasn’t able to avoid Thanos’s punch, which sent him flying. Tony crashed into the ground a few feet away, seeming to pass out.
Thanos grabbed his sword as it returned to him only to whirl around, catching Thor by his neck as he tried to tackle the Titan. Thor gasped as Thanos tightened his grip.
“That was foolish, Asgardian,” Thanos said, causing Thor to give him a mischievous smile.
“For one thing, I’m not Asgardian, ‘Thor’ said before the glamor faded and Thanos found himself holding Loki. “For another, it’s my brother you should be worried about.”
Stormbeaker then flew out, striking Thanos’s other arm and Thanos cried out in agony as his arm was severed just below the elbow. His arm and the Thanoscopter fell to the ground as Stormbreaker returned to Thor’s hand, Thor jumped down a few feet away as Thanos unconsciously loosened his grip, allowing Loki to escape.
“Your reign of terror ends now, Thanos. No more shall suffer for your perverse dream,” Thor said.
“All I ever wanted to do was create balance,” Thanos snarled as he fell to his knees, realizing he was beaten.
“Nay. You did all this because you wanted to be proven right. You wanted everyone to acknowledge you, to say that Titan was wrong for not believing you. You are a madman, Thanos of Titan,” Thor told him firmly.
“Just get on with it. I know I am beaten,” Thanos said, even as he glared up at Thor.
Thor then swung Stormbreaker, the weapon striking Thanos in the neck and separating his head from his body, both falling to the ground. Seeing their master fall, the few remaining Outriders that hadn’t been slaughtered by the Rain Fire or by the enemy turned and ran.
For a long moment, it was silent as everyone got to their feet.
“So…that it? We win?” Tony asked after a moment.
“Yes, Stark. We are victorious. It is done,” Thor said with a heavy breath, relief coursing through him at the knowledge that they had finally prevented the future they were shown.
