Chapter 1: The Beloved Only Hear From Stories

Chapter Text

Wild hummed as Wind continued his rant, the kid was much more energetic than he was on his quest, he was talking more now. The ‘Chain’ as Sky called them, were in the young pirates Hyrule, on an island exclusive for pirates, so the others and himself were hiding in the forest as Wind went into town, although Wild didn’t want to go into town for a different reason, but that wasn’t important. “Oh! Wild!” Wind called as he remembered something, pulling Wild from his thoughts.

Hyrule raise his head from the layering position on the greenery, his legs still on the log he was sitting on to eat not long ago, everyone was pretty bored of recent events, Hylia yeeted them into another Hyrule (the land), where they couldn’t explore and there wasn’t any black blooded monsters here, though he was pretty sure black blooded monsters are normal, hello his time was full of them! Legend and Warriors were sparing not long ago but were now talking about… something. Four was checking their blades and giving them some TLC, once they realised he used it to sort out his inner thoughts, they allowed him to do the same to their swords as well, something he was grateful for. Time and Twilight were chilling with his slate, pulling out random things and having the younger sniff it and say whether it was poisonous and what Hyrule it was from, Wild was suddenly grateful for the auto sort feature. Sky was also cleaning his blade, but chatting to Fi while he did so.

“What's up Ki- Sailor?” Wild asked, almost using the wrong nickname, being in Wind’s Hyrule after so long was finally getting to him, he really wanted to get back to the Shizen No Ōkamiand it’s crew, it had been a few years since he saw them. Wild adjusted his black trench coat as Wind held out a piece of paper, it was a bit yellowed with age, taking the paper, he immediately recognised it as his own, when he was using a quill.

“This is the meal my old Captain made, not Tetra but Forest, it is a second to my grandmother's soup!” Wind declared, catching the others' attention.

“Maybe i'll make it tomorrow,” Wild placated, but… “How did you get this?”

“His old crew is here!” Wild eyes widened fractionally, hold it together.

“Whose crew?” asked Legend as Four cocked a brow.

“Captain Forest’s!”

All the others' eyes widened sans Wild’s, “You had a Forest too?” Asked Sky, surprised. “I did too!”

Twilight nodded as Time spoke up, “If you had one maybe he was caught in this incarnation stuff, I had a forest too.”

“D- did he disappear leaving his sword and a hat behind?” Wind asked, hesitant.

Four nodded, “Like me he had a sword that shrunk him, but he placed it in the hold of the Four sword, so I wouldn’t have to give it back, but he left his earrings behind, they were a gift from u- me.”

Hyrule, sat up from his lying position on the grass, “If he also disappeared like ours, shouldn’t they be someone else’s crew, your adventure was a few years ago.”

Wind smiled sadly, oddly muted, even in a scenario like this. “They refuse to call anyone else Captain, their still waiting for him to return, continue their voyage to help all ships, Tetra is similar, refusing to write off her mentor, his picture is hung in the main hangout area, it was his and our crew, on my adventure Tetra ship was destroyed and the captain took us where we needed to go and was happy to help me to the point of following me on each island. We were practically one crew and Tetra and I learnt alot from him, I- I miss him.” Wind hugged himself as he started to cry.

“Sailor…” Legend trailed off, unsure what to say. Wild pushed past the vice gripping his heart and pulled the kid close, because that was all he was, a kid, and he left. Not that he had a choice.

Soon after the kid fell asleep the others decided to follow suit, Wild switched his clothes for his Sheikah outfit and snuck out while Sky turned his back from the group to search the foliage, dropping a note at the base of his tree he was using to sleep.

------------------------------

Wind opened his eyes blearily, using his arm to block the sun from his eyes, before bolting up. He was meant to be on look out last night, to his right Wild was cooking their breakfast, Wind couldn’t tell what he was making but it smelt familiar. “I thought I was on shift last night.” he complained, puffing out his chest.

“I know Wind but you have been the one running around and used quite a lot of your energy last night.” Wild responded, in a tone that let him know it wasn’t because he was a kid.

Wind nodded, “Fine but it better not happen again!”

“Okay, Wind.” Wild smiled, “Can you wake up the others, breakfast is nearly done.” Wind nodded, everyone had their own way to be woken up and it was different for the people waking them as well.

Wind shook Times shoulder softly, and stole Twilights pelt, sat on Legend and stole Warriors scarf and dropped Twilight’s pelt on him, drawing a string of curses from the hero. He darted back to the cooking bowl grabbing the cup of coffee for Sky as he was drawn from his sleep by Wars cursing, it doesn’t always work. Passing the coffee to Sky, he helped Hyrule sit up as he was also stirred.

Soon everyone was sitting by the fire eating a light serving of vegetable curry. “I’m going to head into town again today, they should be able to see Tetra soon.”

“Very well, be careful.” Time warned, secretly relieved at the idea of leaving the island soon.

“Relax Old Man,” Warriors joined in, “You've said that everyday , since we arrived.”

Chapter 2: He who appears from the shadows to see the ones he hold dear

Summary:

Wild sees his old crew! But is also in for a suprise!

Chapter Text

Soon though, Wind was off leaving the other 8 heroes of courage behind, not noticing Wilds lingering gaze on his back. The path to the town was cleared of monsters quite a while ago by Wind and Wild, who with his trench could be seen as a pirate from far away. Soon after arriving he heard chiming, grabbing the device, he answered their call, “Hey Sailor!” Warriors greeted, “We were hoping to be in link with you while you roamed.”

Wind grinned at the pun that the others had mixed reactions for, “Not sure thats a good idea, some of these guys have very good hearing.”

Wind could hear Time frowning as he said, “Well, if you’re sure.” Wind reassured them as he jumped onto poles that went the stretch of the riverside.

Popping the device in his pocket, the pirates had persuaded him to change into a button up with frayed arms and black shorts, the dark green jacket Forest had given him and some solid brown boots. Though Onyx shoved on his old cap, saying how he wasn’t allowed to be without it, until he left. “Hey Link.” The tavern owner greeted Wind as he stepped into the bustling workplace.

"Oi, Link! Come 'ere." A woman called Onyx. None of Forest's crew used their real names. Once you join Forest you leave those behind, Link aka Wind being an exception. Onyx had black hair that went past her shoulders and milky dark chocolate skin, her eyes were a beautiful azure colour. While she had a soft face, the few scars littering her face would tell you she could handle her own. They also only added her beauty.

"Hey Onyx!" Wind called as he bounced over, he immediately noticed the crew of the Shizen No Ōkamiand looked lively than before.

"You should have told us where you were housed L!" Ray commented from next to Onyx. Ray, his full name X-Ray given to him for being able to know whether anyone had a broken bone from close or afar just by sight and a gut feeling, a clean break or fracture? No use trying to hide it from him. Ray was the second medic after Forest. Unlike Onyx, who he knew nothing about, Ray was saved by pirates who had been the main supplier of a black market ring that Forest abolished before Wind had joined the crew.

"Oh yeah, why's that?" Wind asked, thanking the bartender for the mug of hot chocolate.

Onyx and Ray shared grins, "Because Captain came back, just for the night." At her words the crew cheered again all in high spirits.

"Really! Why?" Wind asked, he had to know why. Why did he come back and only for one night?

Ray and Onyx shared bemused looks, "He came back to tell us to get a new captain, yes he did." Static spoke from another table, causing everyone to burst out laughing.

Wind felt a rock hit his stomach, "what?"

Onyx looked over sadly, "he said to move on and get someone else to lead us," Her frown turned into a cheeky grin, "but since when have we been good at following orders we don't like, he's proved to us he's alive! So we are going to wait for him. No matter how long it takes!"

"Yeah! We will now and forever!" Wind agreed, he thought back to the small pond in the forest of his home island. The sword and captain's hat sitting on the hilt, the box of pictures buried underneath. Wind hadn't yet been brave enough to ever touch or move it from its place, but he knew Tetra did otherwise the blade would have gotten at least a bit rusty by now.

Chapter 3: Herbs And Swords, Oh My!

Summary:

Wild manages to collect his herbs, but the mood when he returns to camp isn't the best

Notes:

I'm Alive!

The sword Forest uses is the Kit Rae Vorthelok Sword, https://www.blades.co.uk/product/united-cutlery-kit-rae-vorthelok-sword-dark-edition-kr0046dk/ if you wish to see it, but it's quite long but Forest can use it easily cause he's tall.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Wild finished collecting the herbs from the surrounding area and headed back with a self-satisfied grin, he finally had a full stock of the new herbs in his Sheikah slate. They'll herbs had a nutty yet spicy taste to them, even Four could handle the spice. As he approach the campsite he sees the others looking sombre.

"Hey, guys." He says as he waves a hand, they look at him and smile but the depressing mood is still there. “Whatcha guys talking about?” He phrased the question this way as if he had mentioned that if any of them seem sad they would all change the subject, himself included.

“We were just sharing stories about Forest." Explained Twilight, Wild took a seat next to him, not quite meeting anyone's eyes. "Why don’t you tell us about yours?"

Everyone turned to him curious, "If I had a forest I don't remember him anymore, he would have been around before I got my amnesia and wasn't around afterwards." He Explained, not able to make eye contact, they knew of his amnesia but not of his 100 year sleep and by extension failure.

"Hmm, maybe something happened to him or he is yet to return, I mean mine time traveled with me as I went back and forth, he didn't look different and acted like we just say each other, even when I went back in time he still knew to the point that he finished making a joke after I traveled back." Time explained, muttering an mostly unheard, "He was even on the moon."

Warriors smiled reassuringly, "Wellll judging by the stories I've heard he seems to have the same personality, always have our back and saving us when we do something dumb."

Sky nodded, "Definitely, they even assisted to create our Masterblade but they left their sword behind, I noticed it lasted until your time Wild."

Wild nodded, pulling the sword out of his slate. The handle was wrapped in dark brown leather and the hilt was two pairs of bat wings, the top larger than the other with a sharp long blade, still one handed the top of the hilt was a diamond shape with an emerald being held inside, visible from the front and back. The blade had points along the vertical sides, it was obvious this blade was made to inflict damage and efficiency.

The blade in question was the blade Wild used alongside the Masterblade, but was the only one he used around the chain. He didn't feel like answering question about Fi's condition, nor did he have the answers they truly wanted.

But as he soon found out they all remembered it as the blade Forest used in their travels, minus Four, who stated he had a different sword. It also explained why the other Link's looked shocked when they first saw his sword and when they joined after him, Wind looking particularly depressed and yearning.

Somehow when Wild picked up the sword it wasn't rusty nor did it break on him and it didn't power down like Fi used to due to her condition and age.

And later if Wild was honest he was surprised how effective it was against guardians, and dual wielding them against Gannon was shocking because of the amount of damage they could do, this was possible because of his travels for the key of defeating Gannon.

Sky pulled Wild and the others into his own story of designing and creating the blades alongside the person he considers his older brother and mentor, and the two spirits that sleep in the blades. Fi and Va are two siblings that guided both Sky and Forest in their journey.

As the sun set their other companion and incarnation returned, grinning broadly, "Guys! You'll never guess what!"

Chapter Text

"What is it Wind?” asked Twilight as he stood up, the boy was practically jumping up and down, usually Wild would calm the sailor to the point of proper communication but he went to patrol and would be gone for another hour at least.

"My Forest was here!" His announcement caught every Links attention.

"What?" Asked Four, "He came back?"

"Mhmm! It's happened before, he's come back twice but usually to me." Wind was smiling wide.

"Usually he didn't this time?" Asked Time, earning some groans for his puns, he asked the question because he had the same experience.

"He showed himself to the old crew, telling them to move on and obviously they didn't listen 'cause it's them we're talking about." Before Wind can continue they hear some branches breaking and a figure approaching, they are tall with long blonde hair and scars decorating their face, a dark green button-up shirt, top two buttons undone, tucked into some dark brown trousers, thigh-high boots with decent heel. He has a captain's jacket dark brown with forest green accents, slightly longer than Wilds that has seen some weary days, with scratches and gunpowder marks on the leather, one arm rolled up to his elbow both hands covered with black leather gloves that stop halfway up their hand. His eyes were a shocking emerald.

“Well, isn’t this a surprise?” He spoke hands in his pocket as his eyes scanned all of them, unable to see Wind due to him standing behind Time, next to Twilight, who saw this Hyrule’s Link eyes widened in shock.

“What is?” asked time, stepping forward.

“I’m pretty sure you ain’t no pirates and this be a pirate island.” The man turned to Time, “And what do I call ye, 'cause you ain’t no pirate.”

The Link’s tensed, they didn’t know the punishment for non-pirates being found on the island but it can’t be good.

“I’m-”

“Wait, Forest!” Time spun to the voice, in surprise to see Wind blur past him to the front of the group arms out as if to protect them.

The stranger's eyes widened as he knelt before Wind, “Little one?” He looked up at the other and sighed. “They're under your care aren't they?”

“Yeah, so please don’t report them, not all of them will be able to handle the current under the plank.”

“Hmmm, Very well.” Forest, Wind’s Forest Twilight realized and smiled at Wind as the boy seemed to realise who was before him and started to tear up and the green-eyed man pulled him close and held him tight. As he stared at him he realised that what he was feeling was jealousy and he wanted his forest, the dire wolf that watched his back and dwarfed him in size to curl around and protect him from the world outside once more, he could tell the others wanted similar things.

Time looked at the two fondly. It was jarring to see someone so similar to his own forest. Twilight's Forest had short hair but his Forest and Winds Forest had similar lengths of hair, though this one was a lot messier.

“Everyone, this is Captain Forest of the Shizen No Ōkamiand.”

Chapter 5: The Memories OF A Rocky Past

Summary:

Chapter Text

Wind was sat beside Forest as they had sat down, the other members of the chain were introducing themselves and explaining their situation to the sailor’s captain. The captain in question wasn’t wearing his hat, having left it on his home island. As Wind took in his brother’s familiar scent, he couldn’t believe his luck in being reunited with the man, feeling safe by his side.

Wind didn’t notice the Chain’s voices fading or Forest leaning forward, engulfed in their story of how Hylia brought them together again.

He shuddered as he tried to pull in another breath, refusing to slow down as he ran around another corner of the Roost Islands, mountain as he continued to climb towards the giant bird that was affecting the winds so badly.

He had to hurry, his sister needed him, he had been so close! And what of Tessa and her crew? Were they waiting for him? Did- Did they think he was dead?

Link faltered, tripping slightly at the thought, the idea that he could have been perceived as dead hadn’t occurred to him before. Link stopped for a moment as he paled, He could have died, he could have died many times already!

In his panic he didn’t notice the Bokoblin approach until it was too late, it was swinging at him and he didn’t have a chance to dodge before he was whacked off the edge of the cliff, free-falling towards the ground as he began to cry, unable to make a sound. Since he started his journey his throat felt like it was full of cotton, he was unable to make coherent words, his worry overcrowding his mind.

I don’t want to die!

Link shuddered at the thought, unlike before he WAS going to die and because of his stupid mind he couldn't even call for help or even scream.

I don’t want to die!

Link held his arm out as he thought of his sister, her caring eyes when she was worried about him after he spent too long on the watch post, his other on her scope, the one that used to be his until he passed it to her.

Link closed his eyes, the last thing he heard was the thudding of feet, like someone was running and fabric blowing in the air as a voice called out to him before he blacked out certain his journey was already over.

“Kiddo!”

Wind jerked back into the present, he could feel a familiar weight on his shoulders and Forest kneeling in front of him, his hands a firm but soft presence on his shoulders, a familiar touch he felt after waking up in the middle of the night, not able to bring himself to open his eyes. A touch that shouldn’t have been there due to who they belonged to.

Forest sighed in relief as his emerald eyes shimmered in concern, Time and Twilight were at his side, the rest of the chain close by, Wild still out collecting what ingredients this island had to offer.

“You okay Little One?” Wind threw himself into Forest's arms and clutched on tightly as the elder's arms engulfed his frame, curling around the boy.

“I realised.”

“It’s okay, you’re here, you’re alive. I’m here.” Wind cried as Forest whispered into his ears, only they existed in this ball, Forest's coat wrapped around him and his captain holding him close as he sobbed into his brother's shirt.

Time and Twilight shared a look with the rest of the chain, they all knew what the realisation was, it was a moment that each Link remembered, that they all went back to.

Twilight knew he had no right but he missed his Forest, the way the larger wolf would huff before laying beside him, like his snout or ear, a gentle reminder that he wasn’t alone.

___________

It took awhile but soon enough they were all sat down again, Wind's eyes puffy and Forest’s arm over his shoulder.

“So, If I'm right all of ye are Link but you use yer hero names to make it simpler, Little one being Wind, huh.” Forest turned to his little brother, “Suit you little Wind Waker.”

Wind smiled and nodded, “I thought so too!”

Forest turned back to them, “And Hylia be relying on you fer the black monsters. I saw a few on me travels. They took a couple more hits, nothing more.”

The chain looked at him in surprise, “How many Islands?” Asked Warrior.

“Not many, only a few.” Forest looked up above a hummed in displeasure as he stood, pulling on his jacket. “Looks like it's time for me to go. Goodbye, Little one.” Forest accepted a hug from Wind before heading off missing the wet eyes of the other members, remembering how their forest left.

“At least you said goodbye this time.” Wind said weekly as he released the emerald-eyed pirate who nodded and headed into the dense forest leaving Wind's line of sight in just a few moments.

“You alright Wind?”

“Yeah, I'm feeling better now,” Wind smiled at Time.

“Uhh, was that your Forest I just ran into, he said I must be Wild and pointed me in this direction.” Wind spun around at the familiar voice.

“Wild!, I can't believe you missed the whole thing!” Wind pretended to be annoyed but was smiling at his wilder friend, “Let me tell you what happened!” Wild smiled at the energetic kid as he pulled the cook over to the chair he occupied as Forest only moments before.

Please comment, This story is going to be my focus for awhile!

Chapter 6

Summary:

We get another flashback and Tetra arrives and whose this?

Notes:

I've started to work in TOTK it subtle but there

Chapter Text

Link awoke in an unfamiliar room. The soft swaying suggested he was on a boat, a large one like Tessa’s but the wood was too dark.

I’m alive? How?

Link shot up from the large bed, and the blanket that was covering him fell to his lap. The bed was large and covered in expensive-looking covers, the softest being the one on his lap.

Link observed the room somewhat relieved to see the green hat his grandmother had given him. Bringing himself to his feet he picked up his cap and gave himself a moment to adjust to the soft swaying of the boat, still trying to find, as Tessa called it, his sea legs.

The moment he left he came face to face with a large imposing man who scowled down at him. The man wasn’t wearing a shirt and had a series of dot-shaped scars on his chest, he was wearing a pair of brown trousers, a grey shirt tucked into the belt and darker brown shoes. He was missing half a tooth and had brown eyes with short dark brown hair that had gray strikes.

After a minute the man's face softened and held out a hand, "The names static kid. The cap’ain brought you on two sun rises ago. We 'ere worried fer a moment but X was cer'ain you 'ere alright." Link took the hand and nodded, still unable to say a word. To his relief the man just nodded back, "Not much of talker aye? No worries, don't push yer self. The cap’ain wanted me to lead you to ‘im. Do you think yer ready to head over?”

Link patted himself down, his sword was missing as was his shield but the Wind Waker wand was still attached to his belt. He glanced around the large room, unable to see his equipment.

“Scatter probably has yer weapons fer repair.”

Link nodded at Static and the taller led the way, a familiar voice conversing with one he barely recognized.

Wind awoke sharply and disoriented to  a hard bed and a warm pillow, he sat up confused and not quite aware of his memory throwing him off. His pillow moved to adjust for him and chuckled. Wind's eyes snapped to his pillow, or more accurately fellow incarnation.

“Morning Sailor!” Hyrule called from the bottom of the tree, the chain was looking up at him, Wild moved him so Hyrule could catch him as he dropped the 14-year-old down.

Twilight came up to the pirate and explained, “After your animated retelling of what happened you crashed and wouldn’t let Wild go, so he had to drag you to his tree.”

“You have a really strong grip.” Complimented Four as they stretched.

Sky flopped to the ground semi-dramatically, “We had to have Hyrule’s food.”

Wild hopped out of the tree and scrunched up his face, looking at the fallout, “Yeah, no. Wind and I will be having something else.”

The others groaned as Wind cheered, Wild went through his slate, making a face at the mess Hyrule made of the food attempt, was that??? Yep, that was alive. Whatever Hyrule had made in the main pot was slowly dragging itself away from the party as Wild summoned a rusty broadsword and threw it at the horror of food, the blade shattering on impact and killing the thing it whined as it died, Wind stepping around Wild to use as shield.

Four looked at him sharply but nodded, the whole chain had witnessed the food start dragging itself away but only Wild had access to the sheikah slates’ weapons after the incident. Four watched as Wild cringed at the pot in the middle and chucked it aside, presumably for Hyrule to clean or for it to be discarded completely. Wild pulled out another pot and placed it down, he had taken off his jacket and rolled up his left sleeve, once again leaving his right arm covered. Something that reminded him of Forest, in fact, a lot of things did, but Wild never had one. ‘Could it be that Wild is his own Forest?’ Four watched Wild cook, humming an unidentifiable tone, ‘Nah, from what I heard all Forests had green eyes just like us all having blond hair, minus a few.’

“Where’s Time and Warriors?” asked Wind as he received a bowl of simmered fruits.

Wild sat beside Legend with his own bowl as the other answered, “He joined Time on his patrol, but I think they were trying to get away from Hyrule’s cooking.”

“Good thing I cooked extra then.”

“And here I thought we would go hungry,” Time called as he entered the camp with Warriors following close behind as they beelined for the pot, the others sans Wild and Wind groaned, knowing they lost any chance at having the decent food themselves, especially as Time took a rather large heaping.

Wild looked up and then at the shadows around them, “It’s nearing midday already.”

Wind jumped up in alarm, barely managing to hold onto his bowl, his spoon launching away only to be caught by Twilight. “What’s wrong Sailor?”

“Niko said they were going to be here this morning!” The chain blinked before beelining to gather their things, Wild jumped back into his tree, gathering the few blankets and thing he’d stored in the branches when the others had his slate before helping the others roll up their bedrolls and put them back into the slate, Time deciding to leave his armor off as they were heading to the docks.

The chain arrived at the dock not much later, glad to see more ships docked, the dark boat with stone wolf on the front was still docked, multiple members of crew chatting on it.

“Hey!” Wind spun to face the familiar voice, Tetra. “These must be the other heroes you spoke of?”

“Yep, what’s wrong though, Niko doesn’t usually come off the boat.”

Tetra face fell, “We got into a battle and took damages, we’re looking for someone who can repair our boat. We were told there’s someone who lives on this island that can help, they're heading our way now so feel free to set up in our spare rooms.” Most members of the chain did so, Wind and Wild staying behind, Wild to look around and introduce himself to the crew and  Wind to catch up with Tetra.

“I must be seeing things…” A grumpy voice sounded, causing Link to spin in place, “That you Link?”

“Linebeck!” Wind charges towards Linebeck, not noticing Wild turning around in shock, before engulfing the man in a hug that he allowed for a few moments before stepping back. “Hello Tetra.”

“Linebeck,” Tetra and Lineback shook hands. Linebeck still looked incredibly grumpy but his hair was a bit longer and pulled up high, multiple tools in hand and still wearing his clothes from their journey.

Linebeck stood tall hand to chest, “I heard you needed help with yer boat, after what happened in our journey I picked up a few things from the boat mechanics, I’m here to fix yer boat.”

Tetra looked relieved, as footsteps approached them, “I’m glad it’s someone I can trust.”

“Oh Wild! Come meet Linebeck, he was with me and Forest on our second journey.”

“Really?” Linebeck was certain he knew that voice, it was nearly ingrained as Link’s he was certain it belonged to the older of his pseudo-sons. Infront of him was a tall boy, hair let down in layers and wearing a trench coat, sky blue eyes eyeing him curiously.

But Linebeck knew with certainty that this, no matter how different he looked, or how he stood differently, less authoritative stance that this? This was Forest. This was his eldest son.

Now why hadn’t anyone else recognise him?

Chapter 7: The Forest that Calls Upon The Sea Line

Chapter Text

Linebeck had moved inside to talk to Tetra about the damages her boat had taken, and both Link and Wild had followed, saying they were happy to help.

The sun shone into the room, lighting up the room enough that no further light was needed. The windows were cracked and some were completely blown out. The room itself was a mess, the messy room indicated that they hadn’t predicted any

“That’s the most of it.” the female pirate finished, Linebeck nodded.

“It’ll take me till tomorrow. Tetra could you get Gonzo and Nudge to go get some proper wood from my cabin. Then go with Link and bring my boat around, I talk with Wild about what we’ll do as he mentioned fixing things before.” Linebeck would’ve preferred Sensa to go as well but the con-man was no doubt haggling for food to last the crew, not that they really needed to, not with Forest's seemingly endless supply of food. The two young pirates nodded and ran off, Wild grimaced at the wave of pain that came over him, every so often the phantom pains of Ganon destroying his arm came or from the adjustment period of his new arm, it made using his arm near impossible. He would have to work through it today, he had already told Linebeck he would help with the repairs.

“You don’t have to help if that arm of yours is giving you trouble.” Wild stiffened turning to the older pirate, he was leaning against the table, eyes squinted.

“I don’t know what you mean.” Wild replied, arms crossed, holding back a wince at the spike of pain. He was unsure how Linebeck knew it was his arm.

“Nope, none of that.” Linebeck scolded, carefully pulling the arm away from his body, taking off the glove and rolling up his sleeve to reveal the Zona arm underneath. He softly rested it on the table, it was an action both Linebeck and Forest were familiar with. It began when Linebeck cornered him on the boat while Link went to talk to Beedle for more supplies he had caught him with his arm exposed and didn’t jump to any conclusions like expected, only sat him down and listened to his story, about the arm.

“You don’t know me.” Wild spoke shakily.

“You may look different, stand differently and speak differently but you act the same, you're definitely my kid.” Wild froze at Linebeck’s statement. “Now, Forest, why can't the others recognize you and why haven't you told them.”

“Hylia blessed me with a separate form,” Wild, no, Forest locked eyes with Linebeck his eyes that hair raising glow of green, “I don’t know why they don't recognize me, I haven’t tried my luck around my crew yet, well, not like this .”

Linebeck nodded, “Personally the sea’s my guide, I don’t think I’ve called for her grace once.”

That was a lie, when Forest disappeared it all he did, unable to see his youngest cry and beg for his return. He hadn't expected the reply, but he got one.

rForest nodded unsurprised, and made a motion for the elder to turn around which he did for a moment before turning around again, his son in the stranger’s, Wild’s, place. There were a few more scars now, a few littering his face, a few a green tint on his arm. “Why did you leave? You were gone barely a full sun cycle after we returned from Oshus’ world.”

Forest looked down, his green eyes locked onto a piece of dirt that floated to the ground. “I am not from this time. Like our Link I am also one of the heroes. A part of my journey as to travel with the heroes of the past and more for one of my quests. I didn’t have a choice of when I left… and we didn't always have a win. I came back for all three adventures as I could, but to be honest I didn't want to leave any of them…"

Linebeck looked surprised “you mean…” He began, “I have adopted not one, but two kids who have their soul tied to Hylia.” Forest chuckled.

“I mean technically Wind wasn’t a descendant of a hero.”

“Really?” Linebeck asked, confused. “Then how did he become the hero?”

“Because as much as he believes he’s selfish, he was willing to give everything to save his sister, save Tetra and save me.” Forest looked proud.

“Sounds like Link.” Linebeck leaned forward serious, “What do we tell the others.”

Forest took a deep breath, “Nothing…” He answered, “I have no clue if knowing who I am could affect this group or if Hylia herself is protecting my secret, but whenever I think about revealing myself, I have the worst feeling of dread I have ever experienced and I fought against Ganon alone, well without a fellow hero.”

“Do you really think revealing yourself would have such a bad knock back?” At forest silence the elder sighed, “Very well.” In a rare display of affection, Linebeck embraced his son before heading towards the door, “Come out when you feel better, Wild.” and left, leaving Wild/Forest alone for the first time in months.

“You missed him.” Forest, as Wild once again, turned to the familiar voice.

I wonder who that is ! :^)

Chapter 8: Interim A Union Of Those Without A Shadow

Summary:

A short chapter between Wild and a few old faces.

Notes:

Sorry for the short chapter, the next is going to be mainly a flashback but hopefully longer, I've been annoyingly busy recently.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Wild turned towards the female voice. She was tall and familiar and a reminder of home. Something he needed right now. “I could tell, it’s been hard seeing the people who we all hold so dear not recognize you, it's a nice change of pace.”

A wind blew through the cabin as another voice joined, male this time, “I’m surprised it was someone like Linebeck,” they huffed, “Although I'm not surprised he doesn’t rely on Hylia.”

Link turned to the Rito, “I’m pretty sure he mentioned it in passing before, seeing the last two join Urbosa and Revali he smiled. “It’s been a while since we could talk like this.”

Mipha nodded as Daruk laughed and lightly smacked Link on his back, the ability to touch and interact with each other was a blessing given by Nayru, something Link would eternally be grateful for. “Wind’s ability to see ghosts was a surprising one, so we can’t be certain whether he’s seen us with you as Forest or not.”

Daruk nodded, “We know you, brother, felt that pool of dread.”

“The feeling like something bad should come to be should they know the truth, though I can’t piece together why.” Urbosa agreed, taking a seat by Link as he leaned onto her. Revali had perched on a chair across from them but close by. Daruk had simply taken a seat on the floor, Link could’ve sworn he had felt phantom tremors as he sat down. Mipha had merely sat on Link’s other side.

“Could it be linked to the fact we messed with time? After all, there were repercussions with Time.” The Zora asked, the four ghosts had accompanied Link on his journey with the other heroes, using their soul link to communicate with Link and scout ahead or eavesdrop on a conversation the Hylian couldn’t.

“I doubt it,” Link started shaking his head, not wanting to fully move from where Umbrosa had wrapped her arm around him. “We were sent by the three goddesses, it’s unlikely that the drawback is from that.”

Urbosa was about to respond when someone banged on the door, “Forest I know you're in there!” The five occupants shared alarmed looks, the voice was unmistakenly, Onyx!

Chapter 10: Onyx Interlude

Sorry for the long break.

Chapter Text

Onyx hefted some more wooden boards onto her shoulder as Mako directed her to the main deck to place it to one side with the growing pile of boards.

She put her hands on her hips as she watched X-Ray patch up Tetra’s crew, after Forest disappeared she had been appointed the leader as second-in-charge.

She rolled her eyes as she thought back to that night.

They had all gathered in the bar, conversing about Link and his sudden appearance and being secretive about who he had come here with. “I’m telling you, he’s here forcefully!” Scatter insisted as he looked around for his jug, Static passed his jug back as the gentle giant shook his head.

“I don think so, I think they're not pirates. Remember the rules? Pirates only, Link said himself he didn't expect to be ‘ere.”

“Maybe.” Onyx half agreed.

“You're both so boring!” Scatter half heartedly whined.

The door to the bar opened and Onyx immediately looked over, a man dressed in a black trench coat with a hat that resembled her Captain’s walked in, the coat and hat combo hiding his hair and face from the crew. He walked with confidence and headed straight to the bar. “Rum.” he said, his voice familiar, he chucked a few Rupees onto the counter and picked up his jug, nodding a thanks to the barkeep.

The newcomer sat along in the corner next to them, features still hidden. The crew shared a look, Onyx wasn’t the only one reminded of their captain from his dress up. Onyx stood as Ray started an idle conversation, attention never wavering from the mystery man.

She made her way over, “This seat taken?” She asked, the hat raised slightly before gesturing for her to sit down.

“Feel free.”

“Haven’t seen anyone like you around here.”

The man chuckled, “I haven't sailed for a long time, Onyx.”

She sat up in her seat, from where she had been leaning on it moments before. “Captain?” She asked cautiously. The man took of his hat, blond hair and green eyes revealed before her.

“Onyx, Crew.” He greeted casually as if he hadn’t been gone for years. Onyx shook her head, she could tell he wasn’t here for anything good. From the way Scatter and Static tensed, they also could tell.

“So what's the news Captain?” Ray asked, slouching.

Forest stood, running his thumb along his hat, “I won’t be needing that title anymore, Ray.” Onyx and Ray shared a look, alarmed. “I’m stepping down as the Captain of the Shizen No Ōkamiand.”

“W- why?” asked Jade, she was the smallest and the shyest of all of them, but could be a beast when it came to exploration and staying safe, no one knew land or water quite like her, well Captain had her beat on land.

“I won't be around to be a Captain for our ship, you probably won't see me again.” He said honestly, “My arrival here was unplanned and unless I chose to come down, you wouldn’t have known I was here either, even if you had seen me.” Forest stood walking past the shell-shocked crew as he finished his rum, placing it in front of the bar keep. “May Hylia guide your path,” He said before leaving, taking a bit of the crew with him.

It wasn't until the morning the next day that Ray pointed out the Captain was alive, and had given them a few clues on how to find him, such as, his appearance probably wasn’t what it was before. They were determined to claim him back as their Captain unless impossible.

But it was Scatter that pointed out how Link had come with people he wouldn’t mention, him being surprised the next night didn’t change their mind, if Forest had a new appearance then Link probably didn’t recognize him.

Onyx looked towards the Captain’s cabin as Linebeck left the room, leaving one of the heroes that Link had came with inside, she recognized the relieved expression on his face and marched over. “He’s in there isn’t he?”

Linebeck made his face blank, “Who?”

“You know who, Forest! Our Captain, you only make that face for the Link and Forest, the people you see as your son.”

Linebeck sighed, “Don't blame for anything he may say or hide, his leaving wasn’t his own choice.” Onyx hesitated before nodding, she went over to the door as Linebeck approached Mako and knocked loudly on the door.

Chapter Text

“Oi, Captain, I know you're in there!” Onyx growled as she pounded on the door, “I ain’t going nowhere.”

She had been slowly getting louder over the time she had been standing there, but other than her fellow crews questioning looks no one had noticed.  She heard slow and hesitant steps coming up to the door so she stood back, just as he opened the door. She barely gave him a second before she barged in, though he had side stepped her as if he knew what she was going to do, definitely her Captain. She heard him close the door as she unceremoniously plopped down on a chair. He turned, and she was surprised at how different and simultaneously similar he looked like their captain, They shared the same blonde hair though his was shorter than their captains, the burn scars that held his stories while the captain had scared mapped out on his body and face a bit like the stars, the piercing blue eyes couldn't ever be mistaken for green but the look in his eyes, the way they stood, how careful they were with their injured arm. She nodded to herself, “See, was that so hard Captain?”

She watched as he shook his head, “You weren’t supposed to know.” The way he spoke was slightly different but the voice was the same, how had no one else noticed other than Linebeck?

“When did we ever do well following instructions like that?”

He smiled, before their faces fell somber. “Why didn’t you want us to know?”

“I’m not of this time,” Her eyes narrowed in confusion, “Hylia sent me through time on an important mission, I’m a hero, one of the Triforce, just like Sailor.”

“You one of the Triforce, wait, is the fact you're from the future why you disappeared?”

He nodded, “My journey had finished, so I told you to take over the crew. I had to move on to the next time.”

“Then… why are you back?”

“All of us, including Sailor and our other look-alikes are on another quest from Hylia, though the unexpected portals are new.” He chuckled as she smiled.

“Inconsistent, this is why I follow the sea.” Her face grew serious. “Do they know the other heroes?” He shook his head and that was it for then onwards they sat in silence, Forest was nursing his arm, more pain then, she stared at it, his arm. It laid uncovered his glove on the table She had first seen it right when they met. All those years ago, when she was trapped and used before she had freed, picked from the group like a gem in a pile of rocks, he had focused on her and her alone and given her a reason to live.

She took a deep breath and asked a question that had no place in this scenario. “Do you remember when we met?”

“When you joined the crew?”

“When you saved me.”

“I remember…” He looked at her, with something akin to understanding in his eyes. “Why don’t you remind me?” She nodded and began.

“It was a dark and stormy night, just like the ones in the stories told in your childhood stories, the ones that got you to fear the sea of New Hyrule. The fear that you would say we could use to keep yourself alive, when anything could happen, fear is your ally, the best one you could have have. What happened that night could be told like that, a fairytale, but not of a prince saving a princess. But a pirate saving a slave.”

“Those were always your favourite stories, the ones that broke the mould with details so dark that even Scater couldn’t handle.”

“No one but you,” She said jokingly as she smacked his good arm, “Now shush i’m spilling my story here.” She continued to talk, both unaware of the eavesdropper who heard everything from outside.

Notes:

Soo, who do you think is eavesdropping, please let me know cause I've been waiting for peoples guesses, I hope you all enjoy!

Also what do people think to a discord, cause i use that more than twitter and I can give proper updates.

Chapter Text

She stared at her feet, the boat swaying, it was a harsh sway, as the storm thundered outside, the other slaves like herself, crowded around her, the clinking of chains a now familiar sound. The only moments of sight she had was when the lightning struck, the whimpers of the children filled her ears when the thunder followed quickly after.

The door at the top of the half-rotten stairs swung open, the rain flew down the stairs, it pierced through her clothes, sticking the rags to her skin, the cold wind made her shiver. He stood above them, but from her angle, she could only see the shine of his rings as he held a goblet in one hand, cigar in the other. She heard him take a puff of it, “Get the best ready and prepare her too, a hero is in town and the village chief wants our best as a gift.” She shivered as he spoke, his voice felt slimy, and her skin crawled but she stayed still, if she moved she would be punished.

Two of his workers grabbed her, their hands rough, she felt pain as they gripped her so hard. Her cuffs were removed from the one connecting the other slaves together. They tugged the chain harshly, making her stumble as she struggled to keep up, the sharp metal digging into her skin “Get moving Beauty, the boss wants you prepared for tonight.” One huffed, the other shoving her back.

“Sorry sir.” She said, her voice was soft, quiet, unnoticable. She had learnt that fighting led to punishment, to keep her perfect for sale it wasn’t ever physical in a way that could be seen. She gave up hope as it only led to disappointment, she had to be ‘experienced’. She had given up long ago, not long after her mother laid still, so cold and so so stiff. Soon the only reminder of her was a green necklace, that soon also left her grasp.

“Be careful!” The Owner snarled, he was in view now, a chubby man with expensive clothes on, a female servant holding an umbrella over him, she ensured no shade was over herself, not wanting to be punished.

As they reached the top, her owner ran his grubby hand over her shoulder his eyes practically undressing her, she looked to the ground but she could see his grin in the corner of her eyes. “Make her pretty, if she is not to the hero’s desire then I’ll be having a good time tonight”. The female servant bowed, years of practice keeping the umbrella in place. He turned leading the way for them, Beauty followed behind them as other workers moved the other slaves, some women and men but even some children. Beauty walked quickly enough to avoid any more bruises to her wrists but also slowly enough that they wouldn’t purposely trip her. They followed the dirt path to her owner’s estate, the rocks on the floor dug into her feet, and she could feel the cuts sting, the mud in between her toes, she could feel the Owner's men eyes on her as the rain-soaked her rags, she felt the man behind her lower his hand to her waist, a moment later he jumped back holding his other hand, Owner stared at him with a narrow look, a stiff whip in hand, “Don’t touch the merchandise, that’s your only warning.”

“Apologies Boss.” The worker let out a growl as his boss turned away. They soon stopped, in front of her was a large estate, it was built out of marble and dark wood, should she be slightly more educated Beauty would realise just how rich that made this estate both the marble and wood were sourced from other islands moved exclusively by the slave owner request. Specifically, it was made to be a distance away from the Village Chief's estate so he could watch his slave suffer from walking the path from his estate to the Chief’s barefoot; it was something he did on all the islands he frequented.

As she was led inside a group of female servants came up to her and escorted her away, the highest ranking slave taking the chain from the men, she was led into a large bathroom, which had a large tub, enough for multiple people. The tub was half filled, steaming slightly. The head slave took off her cuffs, and two well built slaves stood side by side, if she ran they would catch her, afraid of being punished themselves, just like how she would be punished, then she would chucked back onto the ship, tucked into a corner until Owner found another use for her. They too had given up, the thought of using their strength against the man not even crossing their minds.

Another slave reached for her dress pulling up and other her head, and another handled her undergarments, she wasn’t allowed to do anything herself, and he would know, label her unsuitable for sale. They then stripped themselves, stepping into the bath. She was guided to the tub, the water was warm it had always been cold before, and she was made to lay in it as the ladies got to work, one lathering her tangled hair, the soap turning brown as she rubbed it in, dislodging all the dirt and grime. The others washed the other parts of her body, she could feel their nails scraping on her skin and dirt that persisted in the rain. She allowed herself to be treated like a doll, allowed them to clean her up, didn't make a sound when her hair was pulled on, how it yanked her scalp, how she felt little strands being pulled out of her head.

She didn’t know how long she had been in there, no clock would help as she was never taught how to read the time. They pulled her out of the bath, dried her off and dragged her to a room over, the largest girls stood in front and behind her, and the others glared at the male servants, they were dressed once more, while she had been left bare with nothing but an ill fit towel.

Once in the room, she was pulled to the stand in the middle, the towel was removed and they were comparing the lingerie, one lifted a covering one, the colour reminded her of blood, it was vibrant. Another held one that covered nothing, it held the colour of the sky. The last held one that was partly see-through but looked like the ones that the women of higher standard wore, the colour had caught her eye. She had seen it once before on a gem that her mother had hidden, how she had no clue, her mother told her that her father had gifted it to her, just before they were taken, just before her father was left alone on that island, the colour was a vast difference from the one her father had gifted her. Owner had discovered both the gems and had dropped them into the sea right before her eyes, never to be found again.

The head slave had seen her gaze and took it to her, lining it up to her, she nodded and two girls dressed her in the garments. The dress came next black with the same shade of green. Whatever the head slave had seen in her eyes, she didn’t know, but the way the dress shone in the light had her entranced, even when she saw how short the dress was. She was dressed in the item, her mother had explained that women covered most of their body in clothes for dignity, to save themselves for who they chose. He did this to take that away, hundreds of eyes would see her.

It showed off her bust and the sleeves went down to her elbow before spreading out into a ruffle sleeve, the skirt stopped at her knees, and it stopped midthigh on the right side. Her rags had been shorter than this, in this she felt covered but not suffocated. One of the girls tightened the corset. They put her feet in tall black heels, covered her hand in black laced gloves, her hair was put up into a bun, a pin with the gem that matched the one she used to own held it up. A necklace with the same gems laid on her chest, a leather collar was placed on her neck and a leather lead attached to it, leather cuffs bound her hands together. She also had a chain earring on both ears, small gems placed in it, continuing the green motif.

“The hero was nice to us.” A slave said. She had tanned skin and brown eyes, a kind smile. The slave-turned-servant continued, “kinder to us than Master. Perhaps he will be a good Master to you.”

The other slaves turned servants nodded, the two guarding the door talked about how he treated them well, helping them even though many wouldn't even try to with how strong they looked, they had strong builds often making others treat them as less.

How naive. All Masters were the same, just like the Owner in their greed. The hero probably only helped them for the fame, only saved this town for the reward. One of them sat her down, putting an anklet on her left ankle. Another put makeup on her face, and one put little stones below her eyes, blue like her eyes.

She was led back down, and the other slaves selected for the auction stood there, noticeably less well-dressed compared to her, “Ah, the star of the show.” Owner practically drolled as he bumbled over to her, running his thick fingers across her body, before laughing, “Maybe I should keep you for myself…”

“Ahem.” A new man was there, dressed in a suit with tailcoats, immediately one could tell he was dressed more finely than the slaveowner, yet held the body language of a servant.

“Yes, yes. We promised the best.” Her owner dismissed, shooting a glare at the older man.

“The carriages await, we should head out now if we want to arrive on time, sir.” The servant said, adding the sir almost as an afterthought.

“Very well.” the Owner said, sauntering to the door Beauty’s lead pulled her along, his men corralled the other servants into the carriages.

She sat opposite her Owner, keeping her head down as his eyes roamed over her. “If it wasn’t for your skin, you would be one of mine long ago.” The only sign she heard was a twitch of her ear. She kept her hands in her lap. Her skin resembled chocolate, like the one her Owner gorged himself on when seeing other clients, chocolate was expensive after all. Not many others had skin like hers, this made her different, noticeable. Slaves are meant to be seen not heard.

The path was bumpy and she couldn’t help but feel the glare Owner had, his source of entertainment gone for the carriages the Village Chief had sent. The lightning thundered outside the carriage lighting up the carriage, she could hear the horses whinney in response.

It was a while later that the carriages drew to a stop. Before her was a a giant estate, making the one her owner had seem almost tiny in comparison, it was three stories and lay sprawled out on the hill, connecting the mansion to a port further down.

She was pulled out of the carriage, the pressure making it difficult to breathe, she hadn’t noticed her Owner getting out of the carriage, and so got yanked out.

It was only when they got inside that she was handed off to one of the Chief’s servants, who led her and the others to the room where they would wait to be put on stage, she was placed at the back, and the final is the masterpiece, her Owner would say. She could hear the noise from the gathering outside her room.

_

A while later she heard the announcer and the other slaves being taken to the stand. She could hear the man running the actual bidding announcing them and then offering them up, taking bids left and right for each one. Soon she was the only one left.

She stood alone, her leash fastened to the wall, the unlocking mechanism unknown to her, not that she tried. Her fingers trembled, as much as she had been repeatedly trained for today, for her sale, she couldn’t help but feel fearful, apprehensive, she couldn’t help think back to her last moment with her mother once more.

“Mama?” She asked, mother had somehow gotten them free range of a room, but the man, who insisted that he owned them had bumbled in she could smell a sharp and pungent scent on him, her mother’s face had contorted to fear, she had told her to hide, she did. She may be young but she knew when her mother was serious, her not listening, not knowing had gotten them caught by this man in the first place. The door had slammed shut a few moments prior, after the shouting and the thud, bangs and the sound of something hitting the sheets. “Mama?” She asked again, stepping out slowly when she heard gurgling. Her mother's hand was reaching out to her but the smell of iron was familiar, she ran over clutching her mother's hand in her own, ignoring how warm the liquid on her hands was.

“My- Baby-”

“Mama!” She put her forehead to her mother's, smiling at her, she knew what was coming, but Mama hated to see her cry. She was starting to feel cold, so she covered her mother in blankets.

Her mother reached to her neck and pulled a stone from her neck, it was red and green, the colour of blood and her mother’s eyes. “This- is for- you-” She said, her shaky, slow-moving hand putting it clumsily over her head, “This is- my hope- you will- be free.”

She was crying she realised as a clear liquid hit dropped down onto her mother’s skin, “But you are my hope.” She cried, “What if I lose it, what if I can’t hope anymore?”

“Then- Then I’ll send you hope. Look- Look for the green, the gem.” She said, before her last wavering breath, her grasp lessened, “Let nature be your… guide.” Her mother’s hand fell and she realised, she was still smiling, the whole time she had been smiling, her grin faltered and fell, sobs wracked her body as she curled up in her mother's cold arms, she stayed there even as the moon rose and lowered over and over again.

The door opening pulled her out of the memory, the old servant from before came in and undid her leash, pulling her out of the room and down long winding halls. Soon enough she was pulled up onto the stage. The light blinded her as the announcer showed her off, she was a gift but the slave Owner wanted to show off his merchandise.

She was tugged onto a stage of sorts, the platform stood in front of a luxurious ballroom, both men and women dressed to their best. The announcer spoke but she couldn’t hear him, she caught words, such as hero and gift. They would hold an auction, just in case the hero said no. She was caught in the colours, how they looked gaudy on these people, too much colour. When she was younger she had wanted to be one of them, now, it was fake, it was ugly, it was… green…

Her eyes snapped to the green she saw, the green she knew, the gem colour that had adorned her mother and then herself for a short time. He stood by the elder, the only one in normal, real clothes. He wore a hat with a beautiful feather tied to the side, he wore a long black coat with buckles that caught the light, his shirt was green, dark green, too dark to be her gem, he wore dark brown trousers with black books that stopped below his eyes. The Hylian had light but slightly tanned skin, and his eyes. His eyes were her gems, her mother's hope. Had Mother sent the hero to her?
