Chapter Text
Jinx shouldn’t be bored.
This new life? It’s exciting. It should be exciting, right? Being enrolled in the Academy, with all the prestige and buh buh buh. With the voices in head growing quieter as the din of the big city grows louder around her.
Being here, forgiven, taken into parental custody by Vi and her stupid girlfriend. (Who is sometimes not that stupid and actually nice to Jinx and barf and bleh.)
Treated a bit like a child at home.
Treated a bit like a prodigy at the Academy.
Treated a bit like a fucking criminal elsewhere.
It’s all good fun, and much better than some dirty shack in Zaun. Her life should be fun and simple, and, and… And so fucking boring.
Jinx gets up every morning to the same energetic rock song. She has managed to connect the music player to her clock so that the same song would play at the same time every weekday and remain silent at the weekend.
Viktor called it a genius invention, and, as much as Jinx is happy about being recognised, the Jinxck (Jinx plus clock, try to pronounce that, Caitlyn) has become a dull, integral part of her morning routine.
Then, Jinx brushes her teeth (she’s a rebel but smart enough to know what’s good for her) and stumbles sleepily into the kitchen, knowing that Vi is still asleep, while Caitlyn is already at work.
Jinx brews herself the usual coffee and goes the usual way to the usual place — the Academy.
The Academy greets her with the same faces, every single day: students roaming about, freshmen starry-eyed and inspired, post-grads fixated on their tasks and the accompanying bureaucracy…
And of course Viktor and his assistants, same faces, every single day.
Jinx works on her inventions, has lunch, works some more. Of course it’s all fun, otherwise she wouldn’t be doing it. But… But it’s become a routine.
Much like the routine of getting back home and having dinner with Vi and Caitlyn, talking about what’s been going on with their days (not much for Jinx, very much for Vi and Cait), partaking in some pleasant banter, after which Jinx retreats to her bedroom and turns on some loud rock music, lest she accidentally overhear some of the more barf-inducing lovey-dovey stuff her sister does in the next room over.
Or like that time when she overheard them going at it. Jinx doesn’t need to get even more traumatised.
So, all in all, Jinx finally has what she has been lacking all along: a perfectly normal, happy, wonderful life with her family and colleagues. But still, there is this nagging feeling in her chest, her head, in the back of her throat, like she… Like she wants… something else?
Yes, something else.
Anything at all.
Notes:
Jinx deserves to be happy. Anyone agree?
Chapter Text
“You do realise this might change the matter of time and space?”
Jinx stares at the little box with stars in her eyes, for the first time in a long, long time. The lab is empty at this hour, save for Viktor, who seems to always be there; but Jinx can’t force herself to leave.
The moment Viktor explained his most recent equations, Jinx got to work. The device, a tiny bronze box with a switch, is unassuming, but in reality? In reality, this is the pinnacle of Hextech: teleportation.
Reverently, Jinx flicks the switch.
And nothing happens.
“I told you already,” Viktor paces with his cane behind her. Why would he even need the cane after the adjustments? Must be sheer force of habit. “For the portal to work, we need two functioning devices turning on at the same time. Or,” the scientist chuckles at his upcoming joke, “a mage trying to open a portal at the same time.”
“Yeah, like that’s gonna happen,” Jinx grunts and flicks the switch once again.
Viktor excuses himself home (though Jinx knows he is going to have dinner with Jayce), and the younger engineer is left to her own devices. Or, rather, her own device — the little bronze box, glowing with a blue-ish tint, urging her to keep pressing the switch in the hopes that a portal will magically surface.
Flick. Flick.
Nothing.
Flick. Flick.
Still nothing.
I should probably be heading home, Jinx thinks to herself in the cosy emptiness of the lab. Some might find it creepy, what with all the unfinished projects lying around, but for Jinx it’s her home away from home. Vi and the Piltie have probably eaten already. …Or maybe they are fucking, in which case I should probably stay a bit longer.
Jinx sighs and gets up, to stretch her legs and arms and torso, and soon the stretching routine grows into a little dance, the kind of dance she only dances to herself, to mitigate all the negative energy, all the frustration.
Naturally, the pills that she’s taking help a lot; the voices in her head aren’t really bothering her anymore, and she can think more clearly. But it is this clarity that makes her so bored, so apathetic; Jinx can see what her life is, what it has been, and she cannot for the love of her see what it will be.
Flick. Flick.
Nothing.
Jinx sighs and decides with resolve that, okay, she’s gonna give it one last flick and head home. Even if her sister is getting laid, Jinx still needs her beauty sleep. And sleeping in the lab is such a far stretch from comfortable that she’d rather sleep in her old shack in the Undercity, on the floor, or pressed to the ceiling. Anything’s more comfortable than sleeping in the lab.
Flick. Flick.
Nothing.
Jinx sighs and puts the box down, giving it one last wistful look. Maybe she should leave it on for the night? Just in case?
Flick.
BLAM!
With a blast of blue light, a large oval surfaces right on the ceiling, and, before Jinx can realise what is happening, something falls onto her and hits her hard, pinning her to the floor.
“Oh! I am so sorry!”
Not something.
Someone.
Chapter Text
“So let me get this straight.”
Jinx really hates her phrasing right now.
The moment she realised that the person who fell through the portal and pinned her to the ground was a mesmerising blonde, a young woman about her age, a literal angel in how pristine and beautiful she looked in her sacredly white clothing — all notions of ‘straight’ left Jinx’s head in a moment.
“You are a mage from a country that hates mages. You decided to bail and escape your big brother and something something,” I wasn’t listening because I was watching your lips, fuck, how can someone be this pretty, “so you started opening a portal, hoping for some mage to open their portal so you could run away?”
The girl nods with a smile, that same smile that she gave Jinx when she rolled over off her (much to the blue-haired woman’s displeasure) and got up, brushing off her silky dress as the portal above them closed for good.
“And you aren’t even a mage,” the newcomer also confirms on her side, standing so precariously close to Jinx that, if she were to reach with her hand, she could probably brush her hand against her cheek and why the fuck is she being such a creep?! “You are an inventor who created an arcane device that functions much as a portal spell?”
“Guilty as charged,” Jinx blurts out because hiding her gay insecurities behind a facade of bravado is so in-fashion.
“Then I suppose there is only one thing left to do,” the newcomer says with the same charming smile.
“Make out?” Fuck, Jinx, you had one job, and that was not being a creep. One fucking job.
Still, it is with great pleasure that Jinx notices that the pale cheeks redden at the top, just as the girl’s eyes drift to Jinx’s lips for a second.
“O-oh, i-is it a local custom?” the girl asks cutely, and Jinx wants to kiss her even more. “In Demacia, that act is reserved for—”
“I was making a bad joke,” Jinx interrupts simply, even though she would love to tease the blondie if only because that tiny ‘meep’ and the pink of her cheeks make Jinx’s heart race and are just altogether divine. “What were you gonna say?”
“I was gonna say we have to introduce ourselves.” The mage’s smile appears once again, but Jinx no longer likes that smile; compared to the one she had when listening to her, this one seems… fake. Polite. Ceremonial. “My name is Luxanna Crownguard, but you can call me Lux. Which stands for Luxanna,” the girl mumbles, then averts her eyes with another delicious blush.
“I’m Jinx,” Jinx replies, waving her hand in the air in a greeting. “Jinx stands for Jinx.”
The jingling of Lux’s laughter is the most beautiful sound Jinx has ever heard, the most perfect melody ever created, more enveloping than any perfect harmony.
And then Jinx realises one more thing:
All the time she spent talking with Lux, she didn’t feel bored.
Not for a second.
Chapter Text
“Jinx, where were you?”
Vi’s worried face is the first thing that greets the two women when Jinx tries to open the front door as quietly as she can, hoping that her sister is fast asleep from post-coital bliss (ew ew ew ew!) and won’t give her any trouble for coming home at two past midnight.
I was in heaven, Jinx wants to say. Every moment she spent with Lux, chatting in the lab and on the way here, was the epitome of bliss. Every time Lux would chuckle and run her hand through that gorgeous blonde hair, Jinx’s heart would do a weird stomp and skip a beat. Every time Lux put her index finger to her lips, lost in thought, Jinx felt like she would give up anything just to be that finger and also press against those luscious lips.
“I was in the lab, and Lux here teleported—” into my lap. “there. Come on, sis, can we come in?”
The shoes come off just as Lux marvels at this custom, and Jinx has to explain that no, it’s not a Piltover custom, it’s just that Caitlyn, her sister’s girlfriend, is a big old—
“We were worried about you!” Caitlyn chimes in, surfacing from the master bedroom (hehe, more like ‘mistress’ bedroom), her arms crossed, her gaze stern — which would almost be menacing if it weren’t for the fact that she’s wearing her pink pyjamas.
“Oh come on, Cait, please don’t be like that.” Jinx leans against the wall just below one of Caitlyn’s elaborate paintings of a dog resting by the riverside. (Both bark and barf.) “I mean, Lux literally teleported into my lab, we had a lot to discuss. Also, I was pretty sure you two were doing the dirty jingle-jangle anyway.”
Caitlyn’s blush only proves Jinx that she might be right. To an extent, at least. Thankfully, the sheriff drops her line of questioning and instead her eyes drift up and down Lux’s (gorgeous) form.
“So… who is your new… friend?”
“This is Lux.” Jinx groans in exasperation, marching into the kitchen and dragging Lux by the hand. (No, it’s not an excuse to hold hands with her, shut up, residue Mylo!) “She teleported here. It’s a mage thing. She ran away from a very very bad place, so she’ll live with us for a while if it’s cool.”
Caitlyn opens her mouth to offer a million precautions, and probably even more questions, but Vi approaches, strong and comforting in her shorts and T-shirt, which reminds Jinx — just for a moment! — of Vander.
“It’s cool,” Vi confirms with a nod, and Jinx releases the breath she didn’t realise she’d been holding.
After all, these couple of years have not only changed her; they’ve also changed her relationship with her sister, something that she doesn’t ever wanna risk. Not again.
“Lux, if you need psychological help,” Caitlyn attempts, but Jinx waves her hands in the air and immediately sprints towards the cupboard to rummage through and get something Lux would like.
What do angels eat anyway?
“Come on, Princess, let’s get you something to eat before bed. You must be starving, I am starving!” Jinx chants, hoping that if she just keeps talking, her stupid heart will stop beating so rapidly at the idea of Lux, beautiful, funny, angel-voice Lux, staying with her. By her side.
“Pardon the question, but where am I going to sleep?” Lux asks suddenly, and, just as suddenly, Jinx realises that she only has one bed, and no couch, and that she is so, so very gay.
Oh fuck.
Notes:
Guys thank you so much for all the wonderful positive feedback! I apologise if the chapters are too short, I will try to make them longer in the future! I just want to stick to consistent updates for once in my life haha :)
Also I apologise if the pacing is off, or, or anything else! I am really self-conscious about this story for some reason, and I am so very thankful for all your supportive and inspiring comments! They really do make my day every single time, word of honour!
Chapter Text
This is the first time that Jinx is standing in the middle of her bedroom, with a pretty girl by her side, while the pretty girl in question takes in the room — a simple bed with a nightstand, an overfilled desk with a malfunctioning lamp (some engineer she is!), a couple wardrobes and cupboards, and graffiti, everywhere.
“I like your room,” Lux says, and Jinx wants to reply, And I think I like you. It’s weird, right? I’ve barely known you for a few hours and I think I’m in love. It’s so stupid, I am brash, I am reckless, I don’t feel these things. But with you I feel it all.
Jinx snarls at herself. Damn you, Violet, that’s your lesbian genes!
“I’ll sleep on the floor,” Jinx provides instead, grabbing a spare pair of blankets from the wardrobe on her right, tossing them to the patch of empty carpet on her left. “You take the bed.”
“Are you sure?” Lux asks hesitantly, looking over the tiny room, and then her beautiful eyes fix on the panicking inventor. “I mean, you are the host, and you have graciously—”
“I love the floor!” Jinx blurts out, dancing around on her toes, like she always does when the nerves get the best of her. “Floor is great! Besides, I have slept in worse conditions.”
“This is still something you’ll need to tell me about,” Lux says with a yawn which shows just how the difference in time zones is hitting her. “I am sorry.”
“It’s okay, Princess,” Jinx says in a half-mocking way, much like she would call Caitlyn ‘Piltie’ — no malice, just old good friendly fun.
Yet, when she drops the word, Lux almost turns crimson and once again her eyes fall on Jinx’s lips. That’s gotta mean something, no? Ah, screw my wishful thinking!!
The two go to bed soon thereafter, and the lights go off. Of course, some of Jinx’s designs on the walls are meant to glow in the dark — which they do in a soft, soothing green.
Jinx does her best not to think about the events of the day, or that there is a literal goddess in Jinx’s bed (!!), in Jinx’s T-shirt (!!!), just an arm’s reach from her.
As she almost collapses into slumber, Jinx hears a whisper:
“I liked it when you called me ‘Princess’... Good night, Jinx.”
Chapter Text
All right, this breakfast is officially ultra awkward.
Like, on a scale from okay-ish (Jinx blew up an abandoned building, Vi and Cait weren’t happy) to super awkward (the lovebirds forgot to close the door to their bedroom and Jinx stumbled in while wearing headphones and the sight of that still haunts her to this day) — this one is ultra awkward.
Lux has provided curt, polite replies that were enough to satisfy Cait’s curiosity, but not enough to make Vi assured that this girl should be allowed to hang out with her sister. Vi, ever the overprotective one.
Usually Jinx would be pissed, but now she is kind of happy. Wait, what was that word? The H-word?
This is as domestic as it gets, the four of them at the breakfast table (which is also the dinner table and very rarely the lunch table, but Jinx digresses), enjoying their toast and eggs and those little sweet thingies that are kinda like muffins but not really, and Caitlyn makes like a dozen of them every week and Jinx eats every single one of them.
But this time she shares with Lux, and watches in awe how the girl, despite being royalty or whatever, bites into the simple treat with feverish hunger, leaving crumbs all around her lips.
Then, before she can think, Jinx reaches in and wipes the crumbs off the angel’s lips with her thumb, causing both the object of her desires and herself to blush thickly as the two girls look away from each other.
Then, Caitlyn and Vi exchange a Look, and yeah, this is ultra-awkward. Fuck.
“So…” Vi begins with a wide grin, and before she can ask any dating-related questions (because Jinx and Lux cannot be dating because Lux is so perfect and Jinx is Jinx), Jinx suddenly looks at her wrist, as if she has a watch.
“Oh would you look at the time! It’s shut up big sis a.m.!”
Caitlyn snickers behind a napkin, while Vi furrows her brows and says, “I was just about to ask if you had a good night’s sleep, Lux.”
Oh. Fuck, now I am the one making this awkward.
“Thank you, Vi, I did!” Lux exclaims and wipes her mouth with a napkin as well (not that she needs it after Jinx’s thumb, but Jinx ain’t the jealous type) with a wide smile. “Jinx has a very comfortable bed!”
Oh shit.
Vi’s face breaks out in a big, wide grin, which is both good and bad; it’s good because she no longer wants to murder Lux, and bad because fuck, her big sister thinks she’s dating this angel, who is way too perfect for anything stupid, broken Jinx has to offer.
“I slept on the floor!” Jinx immediately provides, cursing herself for everything and cursing the universe for making it a day off so she can’t use her excuse to just grab Lux and disappear to the Academy while ushering the two lovebirds to the enforcer station.
“Uhuh.” Fuck, Vi should not be grinning this widely, it cannot be healthy.
“So what are you two gonna do today?” Caitlyn asks like the serious mature adult that she is. “Clearly you shouldn’t hang around the city centre, because what if a Demacian sees you? My powers as sheriff only mean so much when international matters are at hand… May I suggest a quiet—”
But Jinx and Lux aren’t listening. Having made eye contact, they seem to have been lost in each other’s eyes, unable to break it. Well, at least that’s what Jinx feels, like she drowned in those pools of blue and doesn’t want to resurface.
“Wanna watch me blow up stuff?”
“Wanna watch me do magic?”
both blurt out at the same time. Then, still looking into each other’s eyes, they giggle and nod enthusiastically while Cait and Vi exchange knowing looks.
Chapter Text
“And that’s how you make a bomb!”
Jinx is beyond excited, having planted explosives all around the abandoned shack in the middle of the forest — with Caitlyn’s and Vi’s permission, so it’s all good, and now an official demolition site!
All the wires, and the gears, and the chemicals that go into it, it’s all magical, it’s such, such… artistic expression that Jinx is beyond happy that she gets to share it with Lux, who is standing there at a safe distance, eyeing the blue-haired woman, who huffs and grunts from time to time, working her magic, pushing her long braids aside as she gets completely lost in the act.
“I doubt I will ever need that information, but thank you,” Lux responds with a slight chuckle, and Jinx lifts her eyes immediately.
Lux is so radiant, always so radiant, even when it’s slightly overcast, so bright, such a little ray of sunshine in the middle of a dark world. And the smile, oh by the gods, that smile that is beyond polite, that is just so genuine and nice and is there just for Jinx, just for her to take in, to bask in, to get completely lost in. Lux and her smile make Jinx want to be alive.
“Can I see your magic?” Jinx asks in a voice that’s lower than usual, because wow what is that crazy sensation? Awkwardness?
Well of course it’s awkward, I have a giant crush on her because of Violet’s bad genes, and now I have to suffer because she’s probably straight and definitely totally not into me.
“I’m always wary of using magic…” Lux the literal angel says softly and looks at the sky, where the rays of sun make way through the cloud layer, more and more with each passing minute.
“Why?” Jinx asks and immediately regrets it because the soft, sad look on the angel’s face is the worst thing ever. Jinx would trade anything just to never see Lux sad again, to only see her happy.
“I have already told you that Demacia punishes mages just for… existing. Well, once I… I involuntarily assisted a dangerous criminal in wreaking havoc and starting an insurgency.”
Nice, insurgencies are cool, Jinx thinks but knows better than to say it out loud, instead choosing to sit cross-legged on the ground and listen to the love of her life (wait wait wait a minute, brain) tell her story of loss, and self-realisation.
Once Lux is finished, Jinx remains silent. On the one hand, she kind of supports those oppressed who decided to stand against the tyranny of the xenophobic regime. One the other hand, Lux, the wonderful, brilliant Lux seems to have been so hurt by those rogue mages that Jinx would just blow them all up.
Then, Jinx realises that, to save Lux’s life, she would gladly give her own.
And then, she gets up and wraps the young woman in a tight hug, placing her chin on the angelic shoulder, breathing in the scent of her own shampoo from Lux’s hair.
I want to kiss you so badly, Jinx thinks to herself. I want to just kiss you and protect you and do stupid mushy stuff like my sister does with Cait. I… I want you, my angel. My light. My Lux.
“But, anyway…” Lux breaks the embrace a little awkwardly and steps aside. “Since then I have come to accept the light within, and use my magic for good. To channel it. Like this.”
Then, Lux closes her eyes and spreads her arms, and two little balls of light appear on top of her palms, blinding, bright, mesmerising. Jinx can’t help but stare at the beauty in front of her. Even in normal clothes (Jinx’s clothes!!! — which are a little too small on Lux) she is still more royalty than any royal, more regal than any queen or princess has ever been.
Then, the light spreads to her every feature, enveloping her and, as a culmination of radiance, a halo appears around her head, making Jinx’s jaw drop visibly, like, for real, not even metaphorically.
Angel. She’s a literal angel. She’s come here to deliver me from boredom and apathy, and I will lay my life in front of her, I will be the steady ground beneath her feet if she asks me, I will defend her better than that brother of hers ever would.
“So, what do you think?” Lux asks as she descends (SHE FUCKING FLOATED ABOVE THE GROUND HOW’S THAT NOT AN ANGEL) and gives Jinx one of those honest, real, tiny smiles.
“I love you,” Jinx blurts out, then, upon seeing the rosy tint on the top of the angel’s cheeks (Lux is a literal angel and no one can persuade Jinx otherwise), quickly amends, “I mean, I love it! Your magic! So pretty! But, uh, the explosions are ready, already, I mean already ready! Yes!”
Jinx starts pacing the ground, trying to avoid the other woman’s scrutinising look as her face starts to burn with shame. I did NOT just say the L-word like a damn moron! “Now you see, my sister is always keen on ‘safety this’ and ‘safety that’ so we’ll have to actually plan everything so that—”
“You are so beautiful when you’re in your special place.”
“My special place?” Jinx asks, tumbling with the detonator all while trying not to focus on that other word, because clearly she must have misheard. It was probably… booty-full. Or something.
“When you tinker with things, you are… in the zone? Your eyes shine with wonder, and every feature is accentuated by your devotion. You look serene and excited at the same time.”
Oh shit, Lux still looks like an angel, even though she is no longer glowing with magic, even though she is just a girl in undersized clothing, even though she is just standing there next to Jinx, hopeful?, intrigued?, stepping in, her eyes drifting to Jinx’s lips…
BLAM!!!
The little earthquake of the initial shock sends Jinx tumbling over, she didn’t expect to press the button so quickly, and now she finds herself on top of Lux, pinning the surprised woman to the ground, their bodies touching, Jinx’s arms on both sides of the angel beneath her.
It would be so easy to kiss Lux. Just press her lips against the other woman’s, without considering that they’ve only known each other for so little, without worrying about how it might affect them, without thinking, just, just kiss her, just fulfil the only thing she wants from life right now.
Instead, with a little chuckle, Jinx rolls off her friend and sits, cross-legged, on the ground, watching the firework display that she has set off — and the little tiny fire that she accidentally set to the abandoned shack. Just a happy little accident.
“I loved your explosion,” Lux says, her eyes still drawn to the fire in the aftermath. “It was… poetic.”
“I feel like we’ve only known each other for a day but we’re already friends,” Jinx says diplomatically, trying not to let wishful thinking get the best of her once again. Fuck, way to be cringe, Jinx.
“We are friends, aren’t we?” Lux puts her head (!!) on Jinx’s shoulder (!!!) as she watches the comforting fire.
Jinx decides to take a leap of faith and wraps her arm around the woman’s shoulders, and Lux nuzzles into her, setting her entire body and soul on fire that’s greater than the fire from the explosion.
“We totally are, Lux.” I think I’m in love with you. “We totally are.”
Chapter Text
Days go by, and Lux follows Jinx everywhere. At first, it’s a polite distance, watching her work in the lab, eating together across the bronze desk that serves as a table (and as whatever Jinx wants it to), going home together side by side, sharing funny stories…
The second week, Jinx feels brave enough to share the not-so-funny stories of her childhood, of how she fucked up, again and again, of how Violet fucked up, of how they reconciled, of arduous therapy and medication…
And Lux, to the inventor’s surprise, starts sharing sob stories of her own, and wow, being a mage in a place that hates mages, but being privileged enough to be able to live while hiding it… Feels like being a closeted lesbian in a place that wouldn’t accept you for who you are but would allow you to live as long as you hide. In short, fucking awful. Jinx can understand why Lux ran away.
The third week, Lux starts holding Jinx’s hand when the two walk home. The following week, she starts giving her kisses on the cheek before bed.
Jinx still sleeps on the floor. But Lux doesn’t only sleep in her bed; she sleeps in her heart.
It is at that point that Jinx knows she has to talk to someone about this. And her options are very limited: Viktor (who was kind enough to let Lux hang around, banishing the thought that she might be a Demacian spy), Vi (hell no to the no no no), or Caitlyn.
Fuck.
So, on their day off, when Vi is too busy sleeping in, and Lux as well (which is a surprise, seeing as the blonde girl is usually always up and ready to go), Jinx is fidgeting in her seat in the kitchen while the Piltie makes her signature not-quite-muffins.
“Hey, Cait.”
“Yes, Jinx?”
Fuck, how do I ask her that?
Jinx looks around the living room. Over the years it has become such a cosy shared place, with its comfortable armchair and the array of chairs around the tiny table. The paintings on the walls aren’t even that vomit-inducing and might be considered pretty… sweet. Not as sweet as all the magazines Caitlyn has which are addictive, what with all the ads inside them which Jinx might be drawn to like a moth to the sun. After all, the junk in her room and office isn’t all work-related.
And the adjacent kitchen is such a great idea, making the small-ish apartment look decently big, with the kitchen and the living room forming a single space that is well-illuminated thanks to the six windows looking in two different directions.
“Can I ask you something?” Jinx asks finally as she shifts in her kitchen seat uneasily. “But you can’t tell Vi.”
Caitlyn nods from her spot next to the kitchen counter and puts the muffins (or whatever they are) in the oven. “All right, I won’t tell her that her little sister is a simp.”
“Great, so— hey, that’s—!”
Caitlyn breaks into laughter, and, honestly, Jinx chuckles a bit too, because the Piltie totally got her. It’s been nice, these few years. Being forgiven. Being embraced into the family. Having not only Vi as her sister but also Caitlyn as her sister-in-law. (If Vi or Cait ever have the guts to propose, it’ll be official.)
“I’m serious, Cait. It’s just…” Jinx chews on her bottom lip, then spins around on the chair, hoping that if she’s looking away, it’ll be less awkward. “How did you know you were in love with Vi?”
The sheriff chuckles and shifts her attention back to the non-muffins, which are now safely tucked in the oven, baking for Jinx (and Lux!) to consume later. “It’s simple, really. Every time I look at your sister, I see the whole world in her eyes. With all her imperfections, she is perfect to me. With all her insecurities, she makes me certain that our future together is bright. With— are you making retching noises on purpose?”
“Sorry, sorry, force of habit,” Jinx admits and stops her antics at once. “Damn… I… I can relate. With Lux. Fuck. What do I do?”
Even though the question is more rhetorical than not, Caitlyn provides an answer: “Take her on a date.”
“Like, like… a date? A real date?!” Jinx feels her cheeks heating up at the idea just as her eyes go wide. “No. Nope. Not gonna happen.”
“Just do it, Jinx. That way, you will be able to see whether she is into you or not.”
“What if she is straight?”
Caitlyn sighs and puts the mitts away. “She is a Demacian, and from a noble family at that. In any case, she would have to pretend that she is straight, yes, because Demacia is… far from welcoming or tolerant.”
“You bet,” Jinx grumbles, thinking back to what Lux has told her of her homeland, so far. “I just… I don’t know if I can… I mean, she is such an angel…”
At those words, Lux emerges from the bedroom (Jinx’s bedroom, she still can’t get used to this) and yawns sleepily. “Hello, Caitlyn. Good morning, Jinx.”
Jinx puts on her best overly-confident grin. “Morning, Flashlight.”
“Aha, getting used to the new nickname, I see,” Lux nods and kisses Jinx on the cheek. As all good friends do. (?) “I do like it, but I must admit I like ‘Princess’ as well. It is almost as endearing as when your sister calls Caitlyn ‘Cupcake’.”
Jinx tries to put two and two together. Lux likes her nicknames. Lux likes holding her hand. Lux gives her sweet friendly (?) kisses on the cheek. Lux has been so elegant, yet so simple when around her, it’s been so easy to talk to her about anything and everything and nothing at all. Now Lux has literally compared their nickname-calling to that of an established couple. All Jinx has to do is ask her out on a date, honestly. Couldn’t be simpler.
“Nah, their sweetness makes me wanna barf.”
FUCK, Jinx, what the fuck is wrong with your fucking head?!
Thankfully, Caitlyn is smart and wonderful and helpful (even though Jinx will never admit that) so the woman gets up gracefully and winks at Jinx, who might well become a beetroot at this point, what with how much she is blushing.
“Oh, girls, isn’t the fair in town tonight? It’s going to have wonderful attractions, and food stands, and sharpshooting competitions—”
“This sounds delightful!” Lux exclaims immediately, her eyes shining with excitement, her angelic body tensing up a little in a good way, as her now-well-stretched ex-Jinx’s T-shirt lifts up a little, revealing her intoxicating lower abdomen with that sweet little belly button. “Oh, pardon for interrupting!”
Then, the angel turns towards Jinx, and those eyes, those piercing eyes are the reason Jinx is still alive, but also the reason why she is frozen, unable to move, pinned in place by the sheer power of that soft, wonderful, friendly (?) gaze.
“Jinx, will you take me to the fair please?” Lux asks and presses her index finger against her lips adorably — a gesture that Jinx has come to worship, just like she worships the angelic woman.
“Yes, of course, it’s a date!” Jinx blurts out, then, upon realising that once again she has fallen prey to her own reckless tongue, amends, “I mean, a date, as in, a date, a day, a day we set to, to go to the fair!”
Lux stares at her for a bit, then a disarming smile surfaces on her lips once more and the girl approaches Jinx, throwing her arms around her neck. “Thank you, Jinx!”
“You’re welcome,” Jinx mumbles and watches the blonde girl disappear into the bathroom for her morning routine.
Then, the inventor turns towards Caitlyn, who cannot hide a giant grin on her face. “Cait, I love you. You’re like a sister to me.” Jinx sighs and shakes her head. “But no one can know my secret. No one can know I have a crush on Lux.”
“There’s one big problem with that, Jinx.”
“What’s that?”
Caitlyn smiles and puts her sisterly hand on the girl’s shoulder. “That’s definitely not a secret.”
Chapter Text
The Piltover docks aren’t usually an appealing place. Filled with workers and enforcers, hectic and yet so organised — that’s a recipe for disaster so Jinx tries to steer away from the docks as much as she can.
Tonight is different, though. Tonight the docks are awash with colourful lights, with little mechanical fireflies illuminating the area further. (Jinx is proud to say she has participated in the creation of those.) People are laughing and walking all around, and the entirety of the place is filled with stalls, with various games and food attracting the attention of passers-by.
Vi and Caitlyn are walking elbow-in-elbow (bleh), Caitlyn in a long blue dress that accentuates her hair, and Vi in a suit that looks a bit too tight on the muscular girl. From time to time, the two exchange soft kisses, and every time Lux lets out an ‘aww’ while Jinx mimics putting a bullet through her temple.
Lux, though… Lux is wearing one of Caitlyn’s dresses, a shorter one that reveals quite a bit of her long, slender legs, and of course it’s white, pristine, angelic, much like the girl herself, who is enjoying the attractions with a wide smile and equally wide eyes. Clearly, Demacia does not have anything of the kind.
Jinx herself isn’t a fucking poser, so she is dressed… all right, all right, Jinx did spend two hours in Vi and Caitlyn’s bedroom, panicking and trying on different outfits to see what would fit. In the end, she decided on a slightly-belly-button-revealing medium-long crop top (yes that’s a thing) and tight leggings which might be drawing some stares now but who cares, as long as Lux is the one that might also catch a glimpse of Jinx’s butt.
Great, here’s where talking to Vi and Cait got me. Into Lesbian Hornyland, that’s where.
Vi and Caitlyn are truly infuriating.
The moment Vi sees one of those hit-me-hard machines, she goes all in and wins her girlfriend a giant plush Ursa bear, which is so bleh that Jinx can’t just believe that someone would voluntarily—
“Aww, Jinx, can you win me something too?”
Then, both of Lux’s hands are on Jinx’s arm, taking her elbow-in-elbow, much like the two Kiramman lovebirds (they’re gonna get married eventually, so she might as well call Vi a Kiramman) — and Jinx realises that ‘someone’ who would voluntarily do something so bleh is her, Jinx, because Lux is the most precious person in the universe, and for her, Jinx is ready to win the biggest damn toy ever.
So she snatches Vi’s ice-cream (eliciting a “Hey, not cool, sis, not cool!” from her) and drags her angel friend towards the sharpshooting booth, where a few pathetic losers are trying to compete.
No, Jinx will not have it! She is here to win, for her gi— friend, her friend, Lux. Because they are friends. And nothing more.
Jinx shakes her head and slams money on the counter, eager to participate. However, her nose scrunches at the sight of the standard-issue rifle that she is offered, so instead she leans down to her leg and grabs her trusty gun from its secret holster.
“Using your own weaponry is strictly prohibited!” the old man in the booth (probably an ex-enforcer) complains, but straightens up in a salute, as soon as Caitlyn and Vi catch up with the two younger women. “Beg your pardon, Sheriff!”
“Wait a minute, Jinx, why would you bring a gun to a fair?” Vi asks, omitting the fact that Jinx isn’t supposed to have a gun anymore, let alone carry it with her.
“What if some creep wanted to kiss Lux?” Jinx explains, and fuck that creep is me, because I want to kiss Lux, with her rosy cheeks, and how she’s looking at me like I am her protector when she is more than capable of defending herself, I am so in love with her, what the fuck is up with me.
Then, to cover her embarrassment, she takes her gun and hits all the targets without aiming. Just because she is awesome like that. (And because of a life of crime, but that’s not the point right now.) The point right now is getting Lux that giant Ursa plushie which, now that Jinx thinks about it, is just a re-coloured version of the toy Caitlyn is proudly carrying around.
“So, I’m leading in this competition or what?” Jinx announces loudly with a grin, watching the other competitors scramble at this ferocious display of marksmanship. “Get me that—”
“No so fast,” Caitlyn’s voice comes from the side as the woman thrusts the Ursa bear to her girlfriend and rolls up her sleeves as she takes up the rifle and motions for the host to set up the targets once again. “Let’s give you some real competition.”
Then, at the horror in Jinx’s eyes (fuck Cait is a much better shot), the older woman whispers, “That’s for violating the no-guns rule.”
“Please,” Jinx whispers back, casting a worried glance at her angel, who is standing aside innocently, eyes on the array of plushies that dominate the victory counter. “I need this. I really, really like Lux, and I really, really, really wanna win her that toy! Here. My gun. You can have it! Just please let me win!” With that, Jinx pushes her gun towards the enforcer.
Caitlyn does not reply, instead choosing to squint as she aims and starts hitting the targets. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine.
Fuck, I hit all of them, but not the bullseyes. If she hits one more—
And then, Ciatlyn misses. With a huff, the woman puts down the standard-issue rifle and smiles disarmingly at Jinx (who sighs out in relief), Lux (who is smiling widely at her friend’s victory) and Vi (who smirks knowingly). “All this paperwork has made me rusty. I suppose that means you have won, Jinx.” Then, she picks up Jinx’s gun and takes it.
Jinx gets the giant Ursa bear, which Lux rewards her for with a tiny squeal and a peck on the corner of her lips, which start burning immediately and keep burning as the angel clasps her hand in hers, entwining their fingers as the two friends (?) keep walking around the fair.
Cait gets a smaller toy for Vi, who is still overjoyed. Jinx doesn’t expect anything in return from Lux, because Lux can’t just go ahead and use her magic in the fair — but the radiant angelic girl still gets her some more ice-cream (and also gets Vi some ice-cream, as a refund for her friend’s behaviour), which Jinx starts to lick and slurp with obscene noises that Lux reacts to with a thick blush as she hides her face in the plush toy.
All’s good between friends. (?)
“Hey, Cait?” Jinx whispers, bumping shoulders with the Sheriff. “Thanks for letting me win.”
“Anytime, Jinx.” Caitlyn smiles and presses Vi’s victory-present to her chest. “Anytime.”
Chapter Text
“Jinx, we have to talk.”
Now, this tone in Vi’s voice is never good. Neither is the ominous phrase. It’s never “Jinx, we have to talk about giving you some extra muffins” or “Jinx, we have to talk about you getting your own bathroom”. No, it’s always “Jinx, we have to talk about you blowing up that building” or “Jinx, we have to talk about you skipping your meds”.
But Jinx has been good! She hasn’t blown up any buildings (apart from the one Cait and Vi allowed her to demolish), and she has been taking her medicine very diligently. Her psychotic episodes have been so rare that they are pretty much non-existent at this point, so why is Vi sitting in the kitchen, alone, her face all stern and big-sisterly?
So Jinx places herself on the chair opposite her sister, wondering what she has done. Does Vi know that she has a crush on Lux? Fuck, that’s gotta be it, right? Jinx probably couldn’t hide her gayness at the fair every time she looked at her friend or walked hand-in-hand with her around the stalls, or got small friendly (?) kisses on the cheek.
“Jinx, I know that you are an adult, and, when I see how you look at Lux—”
“No, please, gods, no…” Jinx whispers and winces at the sheer amount of cringe about to ensue.
Yet, Vi remains unwavering. “I don’t mean to pry—”
“Please don’t, please let’s talk about anything else, literally anything—”
“But we need to have a talk about sex.”
“No, please, Vi, please, I will wash the dishes for a month, just—”
But her sister seems like she doesn’t even consider the proposition. “You see, when two women really love each other, and one of them has a strap-on—”
“AAAAAAAAA!!!” Jinx screams, clasping her hands over her ears, and runs back to her bedroom.
Vi glances at the door with playful malice. “That’s for stealing my ice-cream.”
Once inside, Jinx calms down almost immediately. And how can she not, when Lux is right there, her calm, quiet presence enough to make all the trauma go away, all the notions of sorrow disappear… Lux is her anchor, and even so, Jinx cannot bring herself to, to just ask her, just wonder if maybe they could be something more than just friends?
No, it’s too soon, and again, she might be straight.
“Jinx, can you… sleep with me tonight?”
Not helping, Princess! NOT. Helping!
“Okay,” Jinx says because really, is there anything else she could say?
Slowly, the blonde girl rolls over on the bed, facing Jinx, who is still standing there, flabbergasted at the idea of actually sharing a bed with her crush.
Then, Jinx finally regains her senses and slowly lies down on the bed, arms crossed on her chest as she rolls over to face Lux, whose smile could melt glaciers, seriously, how is she so cute and soft and soft and soft and my brain is on the fritz I feel like if I don’t kiss her I will die.
“It feels so nice, seeing your sister and her girlfriend,” Lux says wistfully and cups Jinx’s cheek with her hand. In a friendly (?) gesture, of course.
“Really? They are so sweet they make me barf.” Jinx puts her own hand on top of the pale hand, worried that her elevated heartbeat might ruin the moment.
“I dunno. I like seeing them so domestic. So in love.” Lux sighs and once again her eyes trail down to Jinx’s lips. In a friendly (?) way, naturally. “In Demacia, I never had the chance to date a girl that I’d—”
“You like girls?!” Jinx blurts out, interrupting as she tumbles to the floor, then springs up immediately, much to the surprise of the angel in front of her. She likes girls fuck fuck fuck what do I do I am sharing a bed with her fuck aaaaah what do I do.
“Is there a problem?” Lux winces, and Jinx starts waving her arms around, her mind running wild.
Thankfully, she has already taken her medication so her brain doesn’t immediately jump to the worst-case scenarios, and allows her to respond. “No! I mean, I like girls too! I mean, I don’t have a girlfriend haha.” Fuck Jinx did you just say ‘haha’ out loud like a damn moron?
“Oh.” The angelic cheeks turn a delicious shade of pink that is oh so kissable. “So you’ve never kissed a girl either?”
“Either”? Either. Oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck—
“I dunno. Vi says it’s… nice.” Can I get more stupid? Because this seems like the limit that cannot be exceeded.
“Do you want to kiss me?”
Jinx feels the ground beneath her feet tremble, much like all those years ago when she found the Hextech prototypes, but this time it’s a nice, comforting rumbling, the kind of vibration that makes her tell the truth at last.
“Only all of the time, Lux.”
It doesn’t happen like in a fairytale. There are no half-lidded moans or panting or anything of the kind. And yet it’s perfect, it’s clumsy, it’s amateur, and it’s so perfect.
Lux crawls up to Jinx on the bed, on her hands and knees, and Jinx leans down, almost squishing their noses in the process as she slowly opens her mouth, taking the other girl’s upper lip between her lips, giving it a gente suck.
Then, Lux mirrors the motion like a good student, and soon Jinx takes initiative, eager to make her angel’s first kiss into something that’s bright and powerful and fireworks and so on and so on and…
“How do you feel?” Jinx asks once she reluctantly disconnects from her friend. (?)
“I feel… sad,” Lux confesses suddenly and looks away, still in the same position on the bed.
“Why?” Jinx asks, horror seeping into her mind. Oh no I am a bad kisser she regrets it fuck what if she wants to go away I can’t keep her here forever I just wanted to protect her fuck but I also really like her and FUCK what do I do if she—
There are almost tears in Lux’s eyes and Jinx has never known true fear until now. “I know this was a pity kiss, but I really like you and I was hoping we could be… no, that’s stupid.”
“That wasn’t a pity kiss!” Jinx almost screams, for sure loud enough for Vi and Cait to hear in the next room over. But that’s a problem for later. “I really, really like you too!”
“Oh.” Lux blinks, frozen in place, without moving a muscle.
“Oh?” Jinx repeats in a whisper, and then Lux sits on the bed and pats the spot next to her.
“I… I am sorry, Jinx, I know it’s so early, but I feel like I’ve known you for eternity. I just… I was wondering…” Lux mutters under her breath, then averts her beautiful angelic eyes. “No, that’s stupid, I…”
“Do you wanna be my girlfriend?” Jinx blurts out before her brain can stop her.
“Yes!” Lux exclaims and throws her arms around the blue-haired woman’s neck, both crying and giggling at the same time. “Yes! I thought— Yes!”
Jinx is beyond happy. This is much like her manic elation from back when she still suffered greatly from her mental illnesses, but it’s nothing destructive, it doesn’t lash out, doesn’t fuse with anger to create an explosion. No, this feeling is sheer bliss, warm but not hot, filling but not overflowing, this is the kind of soft euphoria that fills you up and fuels you to go on and make other people happy.
Speaking of other people… “Do you think we can let Vi and Cait know?”
Lux nods enthusiastically and giggles, taking her girlfriend’s (!!!) hand as the two run out into the living room happily.
“Lux and I are dating!” Jinx announces loudly with a huge grin.
Caitlyn calmly raises her eyes from the book she was reading in the armchair. “Ah, yes, that was to be expected.”
“Yes, we know,” Vi replies at the same time from the floor, where she’s lying on her back and reading a comic book (and apparently looking up her girlfriend’s skirt, what a creep).
“We are very happy for you girls,” Caitlyn proceeds with a smile, putting the book aside as she gets up, much to Vi’s displeasure. (Creep!)
“You know what?” Jinx says suddenly, glancing at her smiling, happy, radiant angelic girlfriend. “I am happy for us too.”

Chapter Text
Jinx is mortified.
Positively, utterly mortified.
And there are several reasons for that, too, it’s not just her anxiety shooting through the roof. No, this time there are very very real reasons for her to be scared shitless.
Reason number one: her sister has taken Lux for a walk and a private conversation the very next day upon learning that the two are dating. This could end in disaster. In more ways than one. For one, Vi could share embarrassing stories of when Jinx was a kid… Oh no, gods no.
Reason number two: today Jinx has planned her first official date with Lux. Their first REAL date. AS GIRLFRIENDS. Jinx will screw it up. Oh, how much she will screw it up!
Reason number three: tomorrow she has to go back to work, and Lux asked if they might benefit from the help of a mage. And yes, they totally might, except Lux is Jinx’s GIRLFRIEND now, and Jinx is scared that if she sees Lux again with her angelic halo she might faint. Or have an orgasm. Or both.
In any way, Jinx is fucking mortified, and with good reason. (Three of them!)
Thankfully, Caitlyn is there for her, patting her back as the girl struggles not to hyperventilate. “There, there, Jinx, it’s okay. Just relax. It’s going to be all right.”
“I want it to be perfect, Cait. I like her so much, I want our first date as girlfriends to be perfect.” And Jinx really, really means it.
“First you need to calm down.” Ah, Cait and her words of reason. “Tell me more about the things you like to do with Lux.”
“We really like kissing,” Jinx immediately supplies with a goofy smile and a slight blush on her cheeks. “Especially if we’re kissing and holding hands at the same time, it’s… magical.” Shut up, residue Mylo, that was a stellar pun.
“I understand.” Caitlyn smiles with that soft sisterly smile that Jinx likes so much (but would never admit it out loud). “I also love kissing Vi, there’s this thing she does with her tongue—”
Thankfully, there is a knock on the door that prevents Jinx from requiring more therapy in the wake of getting totally traumatised by Caitlyn’s recollection of her sister’s tongue and what it can do.
On the doorstep, there’s a tall, extremely buff man (yet nowhere near Vander’s build), glaring inside the apartment, clearly uncomfortable in his (rented?) jacket and trousers, shifting back and forth.
“Can I help you?” Jinx tenses up, ready to pounce at any second. She’s no Vi, but she can throw a punch. Not so much take one, but if she throws it right, she might not need to defend herself against this mountain of a man.
“Yes,” the man responds in a low, stereotypically masculine voice. Barf. Barf and bleh.
Then a scowl appears on his face, just as Caitlyn appears behind Jinx, cross-armed, squinting her eyes at the newcomer.
“I am here for Luxanna Crownguard. I will take her back to Demacia.”

Chapter Text
“So you and my sister, huh?”
Lux flinches instinctively as she walks side-by-side with Vi, almost back home.
Home. Home is where the heart is, Lux used to hear. Now her heart is with Jinx, so is it any wonder she has stopped thinking of Demacia as home? A place which kept her hostage, a place that condemned her simply for existing, that tortured her and didn’t let go, which forced her into submission… A place that she tried to nurture some patriotism for, some sense of belonging.
But now, walking down these Piltover streets, Lux knows more than ever that she belongs here. With Jinx.
Lux isn’t a saint. Lux has killed people. Hurt people. Lux has played her part in massacres. But so has Jinx. Both ruined and broken in the past, they were given a chance to do better. To be better. And Lux would love to be better by her girlfriend’s side.
And, of course, having an older brother, Lux should have expected this conversation from Vi. After all, it has been too peaceful, their conversation on the way to the little ice-cream store, all fun and laughter.
But Lux knows how to respond to overprotective big siblings: with the truth.
“Yes, I’m in love with your sister,” Lux says earnestly as the two approach the stairs to the apartment complex. “Every time I look in her eyes, I see a person who is passionate, who is strong and brave and alive, someone who is real, who, who is both independent and can give up their independence a little for my sake. Every time I touch her—”
“Woah woah woah!” Vi waves her hands in the air as the two women walk up the stairs. “I don’t need to know where you touch my little sister. I wasn’t gonna give you the good old ‘hurt my sis and you’re dead’ talk.”
Lux stops dead in her tracks, confused. “You weren’t?”
Vi stops as well and smirks at the younger woman, crossing her buff arms over her oversized T-shirt. “Nah. I understand Jinx likes you, you like her. You’re good for her. And I can see that you can handle her, so she must be good for you too.”
“She is!” Lux exclaims, and her cheeks cover up in pink. “She makes me feel… special. I always thought I was a no one. A tool. But she makes me feel like I’m someone special, the way she looks at me… Gods, she is so wonderful…”
Vi rolls her eyes at the other woman’s dreamy look, but Lux is already lost in thought.
At first, when she saw Jinx, she was… intrigued. Of course the blue-haired woman was sexy, incredibly pretty, and oh so agile — so Lux might have been a little star-struck. But as she got to know her more, Lux realised that there was a human beneath that shell of bravado and jokes, a vulnerable human who was… nice. And sweet to her. And very, very shy deep beneath! And oh so attractive.
Jinx has become the stone that holds her, the lamp that shines the way through, the only person who makes her feel like she’s worthy of love, of kindness. Jinx, to put it short, is her soulmate. And Lux will never leave, will never breach her trust—
“Wanna hear some embarrassing stories about your girlfriend?”
Maybe this once. “Yes!!!”
Vi smirks, taking out the keys. “So, when she was little, and Vander got her new scrap parts to build a toy, she got too excited and—”
Then, Vi freezes and her face immediately goes full enforcer-mode. With some difficulty, Lux can also hear a low, familiar male voice speaking from behind the door. It can’t really be..?
“Stay back,” Vi says and quietly opens the door.

Chapter Text
“Tell me again why I can’t just shoot his face off.”
Jinx glares at the newcomer, who is violating the kitchen table with his presence, sitting clumsily across the two women, who are equally cross with the Demacian man.
But no, Jinx is a bit more cross. If this guy wants to harm her lovely girlfriend, Jinx will make him into a funny slice of cheese full of holes. Granted, she hasn’t killed anyone all these years, but surely this could be an exception?
“Jinx, as much as I understand your frustration,” Caitlyn chimes in with a sigh, “we have to keep this within diplomatic boundaries. However, our esteemed guest,” she almost spits the words, “can surely understand that as a Sheriff I can be very influential and cause a lot of problems.”
Of course Jinx hears the front door open quietly, but does not mention it, since the man seems to be growing impatient, and they could take all the advantage that they can.
“Then I assume that, as a Sheriff, you know how much diplomatic trouble you will be in if you don’t surrender Luxanna to me?”
Then there is a tap on the man’s shoulder. As soon as he turns around, a fist flies with precision into his nose, followed by an uppercut to the jaw. The man stumbles on the chair, but gets up shakily and remains on his feet, throwing his arms up to block the upcoming punches.
However, the punches never come, followed by a strong, precise kick to the crotch. With a loud exhale, the man collapses to his knees, then to the floor.
From behind Vi, who is glaring at the intruder with menace, glances out a very scared Lux, whose expression changes from scared to horrified as soon as she sees the man.
“Garen?”
“Do you know him?” Jinx immediately asks, glad that her girlfriend is okay. As for Vi’s safety… Jinx isn’t even worried, it’s Vi after all. Of course she’s okay. “This shithead was asking about you. Wanted to kidnap you back to Demacia. Wanna kill him together?”
“That ‘shithead’,” Lux provides as she sighs and rubs the bridge of her nose, “is my brother.”
Jinx goes pale, just as Vi’s face mimics hers. Oh fuck.
Chapter Text
“Hey, man, sorry I smashed your dingleberries.”
Jinx snickers at her sister’s ‘heartfelt’ apology, but immediately ceases her antics at her girlfriend’s stern look. “If we’d known you’re Lux’s brother…”
“I will live,” Garen admits with a pained wince. “My dignity, however…”
“What. Are you doing. Here?!”
And then Jinx realises two things:
One, her girlfriend wasn’t being stern at her (phew!) but rather at her intrusive brother.
Two, her girlfriend is incredibly hot when she’s angry.
“Come back to Demacia!” the intruder (fuck him in a bad way) provides instead of a response, squeezing his knees shut at Vi’s murderous glare.
Lux, however, beautiful, angry Lux is steadfast. “You know I cannot do that, Garen. I had to use my powers during a battle, everyone saw it. I am not coming back.”
“You did it to protect our homeland!” Garen (what a stupid name) tries to reason, stretching his arms across the table towards Lux, practically begging Jinx to cut them off. “I am sure Jarvan will be forgiving!”
“She doesn’t need forgiveness,” Jinx chimes in, wrapping her arm around her girlfriend’s shoulder. “She is wonderful, and beautiful, and powerful. She is a mage, and if she wants to openly be one, we will accept her.”
“Damn right,” Vi adds. Then wraps her arm around Cait’s shoulder, as if to prove a point. “I’m sure Cait can pull some strings for a refugee status through our witness protection program?”
“I’ll see what I can do,” Caitlyn provides diplomatically, freeing her shoulder from her girlfriend’s grasp. “But I agree: Lux is a free woman, and if she chooses to stay in Piltover, that is her right.”
“That’s the beauty of Piltzaun,” Vi says sagely, nodding her head.
“Seriously?” Jinx raises her eyebrow and liberates her girlfriend from her grasp as well. “Too lazy to say Piltover and Zaun?”
“You’re the lazy one.”
“No you.”
“Well you’re a dumbass!” Vi squints across the table with a smirk.
“Nu-uh, you’re a dumbass!” Jinx retorts.
“I dropped her on the head when she was little, I’m sorry, everyone.” Vi chuckles at Jinx’s red face and angry nostrils.
“No, I dropped you on the head!” Jinx continues for the sake of banter, even though it no longer makes any sense.
“I see,” Garen says suddenly and turns his attention to his sister. “You are happy here. With your… friends.”
“And girlfriend!” Jinx chimes in, noting with pleasure how Lux’s cheeks go pink at the mention. “Don’t worry, Garden, I’ll take care of Lux. I will protect her with my life.”
“My name is Garen.”
“That’s what I said, Geralt.” Jinx pats the man’s hand on the table amicably.
“That’s not even a name.”
“Now, as much as we’d like to ask you to stay for tea—” Which is a blatant lie, and everyone including Jinx knows it. “I believe Lux and I have a date we wanted to go on?”
“I will chaperone you!” Garen immediately suggests, and Vi snickers into her palm while Lux grows pink once again. My pink angel.
“No you won’t!” Lux is adorable, so adorable when she’s pouting and oh Jinx just wants to kiss that pout off her face. Honestly, Jinx cannot believe she was lucky enough to date this living deity.
“Yeah, you don’t wanna see your sister’s tongue in my mouth, do you?” Jinx provides, and the buff man almost goes green with nausea. “That’s right, I also have a sister, I know what I’m talking about. Honestly, better save yourself, Garmut, and go back to Demacia.”
“It’s Garen.”
“That’s what I said, Garmen,” Jinx pats him on the shoulder. “That’s what I said.”
Chapter Text
Upon Garen’s departure, Caitlyn has a long and thoughtful discussion with Lux about how she, as a Crownguard, cannot officially apply for asylum, but how, with a few loopholes, she can still stay in the care of the Piltover Sheriff and her girlfriend, that is, Cait and Vi.
Lux gets bolder, more possessive; and Jinx melts into each touch, into each kiss, into each soft gaze that her girlfriend gives her every day, on the way to the Academy and back, and in the cafes, and at home, and she really got it bad, huh? But then again, she wouldn’t have it any other way. Ever.
Viktor congratulates the two, and he couldn’t have been prouder of Lux’s assistance in the lab, and rewards the mage with a recording of Jinx’s song that she recorded as a dumb teenager and almost never listened to ever since, not once (lies all lies). Lux is overjoyed. Jinx is a little more than embarrassed but lets it slide.
Meanwhile, the other couple in the household are on the verge of a development of their own.
Vi steals her sister for a day, and Jinx immediately knows what it’s about. Despite feeling crappy for having to ditch her girlfriend for a whole day, Jinx is kinda happy that Violet has finally decided to propose. Besides, Cait has asked Lux to accompany her for the day, probably some paperwork-related stuff, so it’s all fine.
Jinx vetoes several rings until finally the two women find a design that Cait will probably like: elegant yet strict, with no Piltover flair, with a cold, steely touch to it, yet made out of finest gold. Vi makes sure to have it engraved with a tiny CaitVi in the finest cursive. Jinx nearly barfs.
But, to be honest, she is happy her big sis is finally ready to pop the question. It’s been so long in the making, and the two lovebirds deserve their happily ever after.
Back home, Vi takes deep breaths in Jinx’s bedroom (and Lux’s bedroom too, wow) and finally emerges when she hears the door opening.
“Caitlyn Kiramman, will you—” Vi gets down on one knee and opens up the box, but then Caitlyn screams and starts waving her hands in the air.
“Oh no you don’t!”
Vi almost deflates visibly, shaken to the core by such a rejection. “No?.. …But I thought—”
And then Cait gets down on one knee and opens up a box of her own. “Vi, will you marry me?”
“YES!” Vi tackles Caitlyn to the ground in glee.
Jinx would almost barf at the make-out session she has to witness, if it weren’t for her own girlfriend squeezing her hand and planting a soft kiss on the corner of her lips.
“You’re next, lil sis!” Vi teases from the floor, and both Lux and Jinx cover up in red as they mumble their congratulations and escape to the bedroom.
Vi and Caitlyn’s happy laughter follows them all the way.

Chapter Text
Now, Vi is usually a tight sleeper.
Most of the time, nothing can make her wake up from her deep slumber. Not even the sounds of the street, since their bedroom window overlooks the main road, and Vi is more than used to it. Not even the occasional shouts from the outside — as an enforcer, Vi knows how to distinguish drunken yells from legitimate cries for help.
So it is all the more surprising that she wakes up to the sound of whispering. The whispers are coming from the adjacent room — Jinx’s bedroom — and at first Vi thinks she’d rather curl up to her girlfriend (fiancee!!!) and go back to sleep, but then she hears Jinx scream, and all notions of sleep are out the window as she springs up and runs to assist her little sister.
Despite Caitlyn hissing something, Vi clenches her fists and, with a well-practised movement, kicks in the door to Jinx’s bedroom, eager to kick whatever intruder has had the guts to hurt her little sister—
Her little sister, who is… Who is… screaming at her? To get out? Who is… on top of Lux… Under the blankets… Oh. Oh. Ooooooh. Wait. Wait a minute!
“AAAAAAAA!!!” Vi screams as her brain finally processes what she has just seen and storms out of the bedroom, while Jinx and Lux scramble to get dressed.
A few minutes later, the little family of four are all gathered at the kitchen table, Lux blushing in embarrassment, Jinx irritated and hissing at her sister, Vi apologetic, and Caitlyn sleepy and so so so tired.
“I swear I thought someone was hurting you!” Vi says once again, hoping that one day her mind will be merciful enough to help her forget the horrible image that is now imprinted in her brain.
“What if I like it when Lux hurts me, huh?” Jinx spits with playful malice. “What if I ask her to—”
“Aaaaa please Jinx no, I can’t know that!” Vi somehow manages to cover both her ears and eyes at the same time with her hands and forearms.
“Well, clearly there is something we need to do.” Cait looks over the group sleepily while Lux giggles to herself with a blush at her girlfriend’s antics.
“Bleach my eyes?” Vi immediately proposes. “And my brain. And, like, my soul.”
“Soundproof the walls, sweetheart. We need to soundproof the walls.”
Everyone nods at Caitlyn’s truly wise idea, while Jinx wonders why she didn’t think of that sooner. Vi throws her arms around her soon-to-be-wife and plasters her with kisses.
“Your fiancee is being a moron,” Jinx chuckles to Caitlyn, her grudge forgotten at the thought of how much Vi has already suffered just from seeing her little sister in such a compromising position.
“I love that moron.” Caitlyn leans in and plants a soft kiss on Vi’s cheek. “I am marrying that moron.”
“I love you guys,” Jinx says happily, because is there anything more wonderful (and mushy, but still wonderful) than love?
“I love you, Jinx,” Lux says quietly by her side and looks right at her, instead of averting her eyes, like she would in the past. “You don’t have to say it back, but the moment seemed right, and I—”
“I love you too, Lux,” Jinx says with a smile, and this is the happiest she has ever been. “I love you too.”

Chapter Text
Hanging out with Vi is awesome.
Not that Jinx minds hanging out with Caitlyn. The two always have a lot to talk about, and shoot guns, and joke about Vi behind her back. Hanging out with Caitlyn is awesome too.
And of course hanging out with Lux is the best. And it’s not just the physical contact (though the physical contact is amazing); the two soulmates can talk about anything, or nothing at all, and it would still be valid. Jinx could be crying in Lux’s embrace after an anxiety attack, or the two could be laughing about a silly balloon they saw, or Lux might be getting homesick and finding solace in Jinx and her art, her vision of a perfect Demacia-to-be, the one they are drawing together on a canvas in their bedroom, a Demacia that is never to come to life… In any way, Lux is Jinx’s soulmate, her second half, so hanging out with her is the same as just existing.
That being said, hanging out with Vi is a special brand of awesome. Being sisters, the two have an unspoken bond that cannot be broken, and Jinx is now sure of that more than anything else in the world. Jinx knows Vi will never leave, so she doesn’t get anxious.
Today, however, it is their sisters-only day as Lux asked Caitlyn to go shopping with her, and yet Jinx is anxious. Even after playing cards and drinking beer (juice for Jinx because meds), Jinx cannot shake off the question that she needs advice on.
“Hey, Vi, there’s something I need your help with,” Jinx says finally as Vi escapes into her and Caitlyn’s bedroom to search for something.
The search takes more time than usual, it seems, because every other second, the woman stops to admire the ring on her finger, which would usually make Jinx gag if it weren’t for the fact that she, Jinx, wants to be in the same position soon.
Not being a moron who stares at a ring, no. But… married. Like Vi. Vi has been so much happier since getting married to Caitlyn, and Cait has been happier as well, and Jinx, always one for total devotion, cannot shake off this feeling that she might be doing something wrong because she wants to marry Lux so much. So. Much.
Vi sees the turmoil on her sister’s face and sits down on the bed, diverting her full attention to the smaller girl, who is standing there, anxious and unsure.
“Vi, I think… I think I want to ask her to… I wanna ask Lux…” Jinx grabs her arm nervously. What is wrong with me? It’s just me and my sister, and, and I want to ask her how to… propose… to Lux.
“You want to propose,” Vi confirms with a warm smile and pats the spot next to her on the bed.
Cautiously, Jinx sits down on the bed with a wince. And not just because the sheets probably hold unspeakable volumes of gross post-jingle-jangle stuff. Jinx has never been really shy, but with Lux, it’s… different. Lux brings out the best in Jinx, and she’s afraid to ruin it.
“Do you think it’s too early?” Jinx asks. “We’ve only been together for five months, what if she says no? What if she doesn’t feel that way? What if—”
“Do it.”
Jinx turns towards her sister curiously. “What?”
“Just do it.” Vi shrugs, as if she’s spewing the simplest truth in the world. “If she’s not ready, she’ll tell you. But she’s not gonna reject you, Jinx, she’s in love with you. Just as much as you are in love with her.”
Jinx feels a surge of gratitude in her chest, the corners of her lips going up automatically, as if on instinct. This, all of this, this is so good. Being back with her sister, her family. Finding a new family member in Cait. Being forgiven, treated, healed. Called by her new name without any underlying negativity. Having the best girlfriend in the world who is living with her, illuminating her life every single day. All of this, here, is what true happiness feels like.
And still there are some tiny notions of nerves, of anxiety shining through. “Isn’t it too early?”
“It’s almost evening,” Vi responds immediately, looking at her watch, then, at Jinx’s deadpan stare, chuckles. “Come on sis, don’t repeat my mistake. Waiting several years to propose to the love of your life isn’t worth it. Go for it.”
“I don’t even have a ring.” Jinx springs up from the bed. Fuck, I should have bought a ring. “I think we can go tomorrow and choose—”
The two sisters are interrupted by the sound of the front door opening. With a sisterly nod, Vi leaves to greet her wife and Jinx comes out a bit later to greet her girlfriend (and Caitlyn too because Caitlyn is awesome and is now officially her sister-in-law) — but the girlfriend in question has the most horrified, anxious look on her face, and that anxiety immediately channels over to Jinx.
While Vi kisses Caitlyn, asking her a silent question with her eyebrows, Lux gulps and asks, “J-jinx, c-can we talk?”
Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. Blood freezes in Jinx’s veins as she stares at her lover, who is paler than usual, standing there, fidgeting with her fingers as Cait’s comforting hand is on her shoulder, squeezing gently. She’s gonna break up with me. I fucked up somehow and she’s gonna break up with me.
“Love, it’s nothing bad, I promise!” Lux exclaims upon seeing her lover’s turmoil and runs towards the shorter girl, wrapping her arms around her shoulders.
“Th-thank you, Flashlight, you always know when I need h-help,” Jinx sniffs and envelops her girlfriend in a soft embrace, feeling Lux’s lips on her neck.
“It’s just a very… a very personal conversation that makes me a bit nervous, but it’s nothing bad, I swear!” Lux assures and Jinx nods, letting her partner lead her to their bedroom.
“Are you breaking up with me?” Jinx asks immediately as soon as the door closes, her voice trembling, almost pleading.
“What? No!” Lux exclaims, her eyes going wide at such a notion. “You are the love of my life, why would I… I understand that you’re anxious, love, but I assure you it’s nothing bad.” Lux exhales and motions to the bed, which Jinx plops on, a little calmer, watching her girlfriend rocking on her heels in the middle of the bedroom.
Then the taller woman lifts her eyes, making eye contact with the pools of pink. “Jinx, I… Oh gods, you’re so pretty,” Lux breathes out in defeat, then shuts her eyes tight. “I… I love you. I love you so much.”
“I love you too, Princess,” Jinx immediately supplies, eager to get up from bed and rush to her girlfriend’s side, but takes a breath instead and gives Lux some space to collect her thoughts.
“Jinx, you are the most incredible person I know,” Lux carries on, her eyes still shut tight, and Jinx can’t help but find it adorable, especially when the mage clenches her fists tight, pumping herself up. “I love you more than breathing. Every second I spend by your side is bliss. Every kiss, every touch, every word you gift me with… I know we haven’t been dating that long but… Oh gods…”
The girl’s eyes fly open and she almost collapses down on one knee, eliciting a gasp from Jinx, who can’t believe what is happening.
“Jinx, my love, will you marry me?”
“YES YES YES YES YES—”
In the living room, Vi smirks at the happy screams and the follow-up crying that break through the soundproofing. Damn, Lux totally pulled a Caitlyn on my sis. Then, she looks at her wife (!!!) who has the happiest, the most radiant smile on her face, and realises two things:
One, today it’s her sister’s turn to be the happiest woman alive.
Two, Jinx is such a lesbian.

(I am sorry if I did)
I decided to only leave this note at the end of the very last chapter because I want this story to remain a bastion of fluff and gay panics and a place to escape the harsh reality of life.
The truth is, I have bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder, and for a while I have been severely depressed, and having constant panic attacks, and the medicine doesn’t work anymore. Because I am from Russia and that means that soon, eventually, I will either be conscripted/drafted and sent to a war I do NOT support — or go to jail for not supporting the war (or even calling it a war, that’s also illegal) or using Instagram or having a pride prin or being gay or even leaving this note or whatever new oppressive laws the government enacts. This year is the worst thing that’s ever happened so far, and a lot of bad things have happened to me (for one I’m gay and living in Russia, for another all the health issues with me and my family).
Also I cannot legally escape this horrible place (believe me, I checked extensively, being a law school graduate and all) because the airspace is closed and land borders are locked and Russian refugees aren’t welcome anywhere and with my passport there’s almost not a single place that won’t deport me at the border or refuse entry/transit. Not to mention my family’s health, which I have to take care of. Russian cards also don’t work anywhere anymore so there’s no way to take one’s money into exile. We don’t have any digital services either, like buying tickets or booking hotels or even Netflix or Spotify. But, more importantly, we don’t have rights or a way to fight for them that doesn’t lead to getting imprisoned, beaten up, tortured, or killed.
So, I will very likely end up drafted and dead or imprisoned soon, so I just wanted to say this and to ask all of you to remember me and remember this story of mine.
All I ask is, when I’m gone, please remember me and my story.
Thank you.
