Saint tries not to think about how small Osiris looks amidst the pillows. He tries not to think about how close he'd come to losing him. He shakes his head, trying to clear it of such thoughts. Aloud, he says, "I'm glad you've come back to me."
Osiris's voice is bitter. "I was given back to you."
...
On the bedside table, a small stuffed toy in the shape of a pigeon has been watching the proceedings. Saint and that pigeon had spent a lot of time together while he was waiting for Osiris to wake; at this point, they are old friends. He grabs it now and places it in his lap, running his free hand across its plush fabric in an attempt to calm his nerves.
