Work Text:

Something was off about Anne.

Sprig couldn’t describe it, she wasn’t mad or sad, but something was off. He could notice the off-ness most when she was around Sasha, and whenever anyone mentioned Sasha, it was evident something about it made her anxious.

Maybe it was something completely different though. Being thrown back into Amphibia and into a mission immediately was shocking, so that could’ve been it. Or maybe she was homesick, or she was tired!

But those explanations didn’t fit into any categories he was observing, so he couldn’t place his finger on it.

——————

Something was different about Sasha over the past week, and Ivy could already tell why. It was obviously about Anne, that was clear.

At first, Ivy thought that Sasha was anxious just because there were new recruits they had to train. Or that if the robots saw Anne or the Planters, their hideout would be revealed.

But she could tell that wasn’t it, she had seen this before.

Sasha was into Anne, that was clear enough. It’s not like she was trying to hide it, or if she was, she was doing a terrible job.

It was whenever Sasha was around Anne, or even when Anne was mentioned. She always got flustered or tried to show off for her, either because she wanted to impress Anne or she was just dumb. If she was being honest, Sasha was being a hypocrite.

She wondered if they were both actually dating, but decided that if that were the case, they wouldn’t be so awkward and flustered all the time near each other (or they would be less obvious that they liked each other).

Sprig had told her that Anne had been acting weird around Sasha as well, so it was just a matter of time before they both realized it.

So why not bother the both of them for it?

——————

“Hey Anne?”

“Yeah Sprig?”

“Have you ever dated anyone back on earth before?”

Anne looked up from the puzzle Sprig had picked out earlier, he said he liked it because of the colors.

“No? Why’re you so interested in that of all things?”

“Have you ever had any crushes back on earth?”

“I mean, I guess? But I never really felt attracted to any of them. Why?”

“No reason.”

Alright, Anne knew something was up. Sprig didn’t just ask random questions like that. Okay, well, actually he did, but nothing really about dating.

“Do you want dating advice from me? Because trust me dude, I don’t have any. Sasha would be better for that, she’s had plenty of boyfriends in the past. Kinda surprising, actually.”

“Sasha you say?”

Okay, what the hell.

“Sprig, what are you thinking?”

“Nothing, nothing. It’s just that Ivy and I have noticed something with you and Sasha, that’s all.”

Oh fuck.

All Anne could do was blush at that. Was she really that obvious? She didn’t think she was.. Did they both know that Anne liked Sasha? Did they tell her? Does she know?

“What do you mean?”

“We’re not dumb Anne.” Sprig looked up from putting pieces together.

“I beg to differ.”

“I hate you. But, Ivy and I have noticed so pretty strange behavior from your part.”

Just kill her now.

——————

“Hey Sasha? Have you dated anyone back on earth?”

“Yeah. I’ve dated plenty of people for my lifetime.”

“What about Anne?” Sasha turned around sharply at that question. Ivy was onto her, wasn’t she?

“What are you getting at twerpette?”

Ivy gave a smug smile, and Sasha knew everything she had ever loved was over.

“Have you dated her?”

“No.”

“Do you like her?”

“No.”

“You like her dont you?”

“No I don’t.”

“Your face says differently.”

Sasha turned to the mirror in her room, and saw that her face was red. Entirely bright red.

“Do you ever keep your mouth shut?

“No, not really.”

“Just get out of my room twerpette.”

“But Sashaaaa, you gotta tell me how you’re gonna ask her out!”

“We’re in the middle of a WAR Ivy. Even if she was interested in me, we couldn’t really get together. Besides, we’re still trying to rekindle our friendship, I HIGHLY doubt she’s into me.” With that, Sasha pushed Ivy out of her room and swished the curtains shut. She did NOT need this today, and if Ivy said anything to Anne, should would promptly kill her.

——————

Around 20 minutes later, Sasha could hear all but clear voices coming from outside her room.

“Oh my frog! Leave me alone!”

“Just admit it Anne!”

“Fuck off Sprig! Tell your girlfriend to leave me alone too!”

“We’re just trying to help you!”

“You’re torturing me, that’s barely helping!”

Sasha walked over to the curtains and pulled them back, revealing Sprig and Ivy following around Anne.

“What’s going on?”

“Oh thank FROG Sasha,” Anne turned to her, and she could swear that there was the faintest of red on her face, “kill them.”

“Alright.” Sasha shrugged and was in the middle of unsheathing one of her swords before Sprig interrupted.

“Hey! Woah! You can’t just do that!”

“I mean, I kinda can.. besides, Anne said so, so I get to now.”

“That’s not how it works! Just because Anne said for you to do something doesn’t mean you have to do it!”

“Life isn’t fair twerp.”

Good LORD! You guys just can’t spend five minutes away from each other, can you ?” Sprig and Sasha turned to Ivy, who had obviously said it in a mocking tone. Sprig turned back to see Anne practically hiding behind Sasha and, realizing Ivy was mocking Sasha, gave a smug smile and backed away towards Ivy.

Sasha knew she was being a hypocrite, but all is fair in war.

“What does that mean?” She could hear Anne ask.

“It means that Sasha’s being a massive-“

“Alright you little shits, come here!”

With that, Sasha unsheathed her swords and started chasing the two frogs, leaving Anne alone, but unbothered.
