Idk I just wanted to write Catsushi, I don’t usually write fics so umm don’t judge this one. I tried my best. Also happy birthday Atsushi!

Chapter 1: Agency finds a cat

Atsushi is a cat, what’s new?

It’s known that Atsushi’s senses are better than a regular human’s, but what they didn’t know, is just how cat like Atsushi really is.

“Hm, oh Atsushi!” Yosano called. “Yes?”
“I need a favour from you. I don’t have time to pick up the supplies needed. Could you grab them?” A simple request. “Sure! What do you need?” Yosano began to tell him what she needed, but Atsushi had something else on his mind. A bird. In the Window.

Atsushi stared intently at the window with a blank expression. He didn’t even notice when Yosano stopped talking to look at whatever it was occupying Atsushi’s attention. It made no sense to her, what was he looking at? There’s nothing out of the ordinary outside… just some clouds, trees, and birds.

“Um.. Atsushi?”
No response.
The interaction caught the eyes of a few people. Ranpo paused his snack eating, and Dazai lifted his head off the couch.

“Atsushiiii?” Yosano called out chuckling to herself, she put the puzzle pieces together by then.
Finally then he snapped out of the “bird trance”.
His head snapped to Yosano’s face. She was laughing.
“Oh! Sorry Yosano-san… could you repeat that?…” his voice trailed off when he looked around the room. Most people were still working, but a few were staring at him.

“Atsushi” Yosano began, still chuckling. “Were you staring at a bird?”

Oh. He was wasn’t he. His face turned red.

“Um. Well. Uhhhh…”. He started stuttering trying to explain himself before he just gave up and stared at Yosano dead in the eyes. Hoping she’d stop laughing.

Her chuckling game to a stop. “It’s fine, I’ll just tell you what you needed to get again”.

While she was explaining, Dazai and Ranpo shared a look. Catsushi. This was something they would not forget about. It doesn’t stop there though.

Atsushi and Akutagawa were on a roof. As they would. Battling. A few of the Ada members where below the building doing their own thing.

The building wasn’t too tall, but tall enough to break almost every bone in your body if you fell. Atsushi just HAPPENED to trip while trying to avoid Akutagawa’s Rashomon. He was falling.

“ATSUSHI” Tanizaki and Kunikida yelled simultaneously. Dazai and Kenji looked over worriedly, nobody was going to get there to catch him in time.

Atsushi was falling. He didn’t even realize he was falling until he landed on all fours, pretty much unharmed other than the few scratches on his hands.

Everyone paused, even Akutagawa. “Stupid Jinko..” Akutagawa muttered.

Atsushi simply stood up on his two feet and climbed back onto the roof like nothing happened.

“DID HE JUST LAND ON ALL FOURS LIKE A CAT?!” Kenji yelled. Kyouka silently admired his cat like abilities. Kunikida was still frozen wondering when Atsushi became a cat like human. Dazai was laughing, and so was Tanizaki.

“He did! He actually landed on all fours like a cat!” Soon enough almost everyone was cheering and laughing. Nobody really mentioned it, but they got very excited when Atsushi acted cat like.

Dazai wanted to test of this happened every time he fell. He had an idea of how to safely test it.

 

Eventually the battle was over, they walked back to the agency building. Nothing but mindless chatter among the group. Dazai was missing though. Back at the agency building he was putting dust on the tallest shelf. He collected the dust and just put it on the self. He tore up tissues near it to blow more dust onto it. He did everything he could to make it dusty.

The agency group returned to their desks and settled.
“Atsushi-kun!!” Dazai beckoned. “Hm?”
"This self is so dusty".  Dazai said.  "Could you clean it?"  Dazai was really hoping this would work.  He didn't have much time to prepare.  

"Oh!  Sure?  I'm done most of my work."  Wow.  That actually worked.  Dazai handed Atsushi a duster.  Fukuzawa happened to walk out of his office to observe.  He looked over to see Atsushi on a step stool, while also on his tippie toes cleaning a weirdly dusty shelf, and Dazai staring at him with a smirk.  Dazai reached out his leg and kicked the step stool from under him.  Everyone looked over and watched as Atsushi stumbled and fell; yet again landing on all fours.  Everyone watched in amusement as Atsushi stood up and started arguing with Dazai.  Their banter was ignored, everyone just turned to look at the Boss. 

You couldn't tell but he was very surprised and happy.  Fukuzawa loves cats, that's a known fact, and here, right in front of him.  One of his agents is being very cat like.  The whole agency was giggling now.  Even Kunikida, only slightly irritated, was giggling.

Atsushi and Kyouka had been living together for a while now, but Kyouka never really realized his sleeping habits because he sleeps in the closet.  The only time she really noticed, along with the rest of the agency, was on their decided movie night.

kunikida didn’t want a movie night at first.  It would take up too much time.  They have work to do.  Blah blah blah regular Kunikida Ideal stuff.  Eventually he agreed because work was slow and how could you say no when the entire agency is staring at you begging you to. 

they decided to install a TV in the agency building rec room, and push the couch to that area.  It was perfect!  

“What movie are we gonna watch?” Kenji asked.  “Ooo! Let’s watch horror” 

“No maybe let’s not…” Tanizaki muttered.  He doesn’t like horrors.  Obviously.  After 20 minutes of pure arguing back and forth on what movie to watch, they chose the Yuri on ice movie (because in this reality it exists).  It was a good movie, but Atsushi was tired.  He felt himself slowly slip in sleep surrounded by all his favourite people.  His head slipped to the side onto Kyouka’s shoulder.  Kyouka tuned to look at him.  He looked peaceful, so Kyouka didn’t bother waking him.  She didn’t mind him in her shoulder anyway.  

Nobody else really noticed he was sleeping, until a few minutes in they heard a noise.  A low tone sound.  A purr.  Everyone turned to look at Atsushi.  “AWWW oh my god he’s purring he’s purring!” Naomi piped up from the far side of the couch.  “I’m telling you Atsushi is a cat!  He does so many cat like things.”  That was Dazai talking.  

Kyouka was proud.  That was her older brother figure that everyone was awwing at.  She lived with him.   Yosano watched in awe; he was a cat.  Catsushi.  Kenji was about to burst.  It was so cute.  Catsushi!

They continued the movie while Atsushi slept, they wouldn’t say anything when he awoke, but it lived in their memories.  If they brought it up sometimes, nobody had to know.

Kyouka was walking to the angency when she heard a meow.  Kyouka walked into the ally and found a kitten.  It was very cute.  She wanted it.  Kyouka simply picked up the cat and continued to walk to the agency with the cat.  

Kyouka walked into the building holding the cat.  She had no thoughts as people turned to look at her.  

“Kyouka has a cat” ranpo stated.  Just as Atsushi turned around, the cat leaped out of Kyouka’s arms and landed on Atsushi’s head. 
“AgHhah” (the sound you make when a cat lands on your head).  The cat jumped down onto Atsushi’s arms and purred.  

“Ahh Atsushi-kun!  I think that cat thinks you’re one of it’s kind.”  Dazai teased.  
“I’m a tiger!” Atsushi argued.  
“Exactly”.  

Atsushi avoid the rest of the argument.  “Kyouka-chan, where’d you get the cat from?”

“I found it in an alleyway on my way back.  It reminded me of you so I brought it here.”  She stated. 
Atsushi was conflicted.  He wanted to say “aww” because she brought a cat because it reminded her of him; but at the same time…he’s not a cat! 

His awkwardness answered for him.  “Oh! Uh uhm… Thank you?… I..” he trailed off.  

Kyouka nodded in response and went to pet the cat, she noticed it was asleep on his lap.  “The cat likes you, Atsushi.”  Kyouka whispered.  This was true.  That cat did like him.  

Fukuzawa stood from his office chair and came to the main office when he heard muttering and the mention of a cat.  He loves cats.  He likes to talk to them sometimes.  They were sly curious creatures.  They could be strong, they could be cuddly, they could be curious or just ignore you.  Cats were so complicated, and that’s why he likes them so much.  It’s just a bonus that they’re  so cute.  

“Boss?!” Kunikida said surprised.  
“awww the cat doesn’t like any of us, only Atsushi-kun…” Dazai said sadly.  
Fukuzawa was not jealous nonononono.  He was the boss of the armed detective agency!  He doesn’t get jealous.  

“It makes sense that the cat would like Atsushi.  I’ve noticed his cat like tendencies.”  Fukuzawa stated, nodding and heading back to his office.  

the building was dead silent.  
Then every single person burst out laughing.  Kunikida broke a smile too.  Dazai was smirking at the embarrassed look on Atsushi’s face.  Everyone else was laughing.  

The cat lived at the angency building now, yay sally sitting by Atsushi.  Head butting and meowing until Atsushi gives it attention.

 If the agency members caught Atsushi taking a nap with the cat nobody said anything.

As of late, Dazai had been noticing Atsushi’s cat like tendencies.  He really noticed it when running errands.  He and Atsushi were simply walking towards one of the shops areas to by snacks and other needed products, when Atsushi suddenly stopped in his tracks and turned around.  

“Atsushi-kun?”  
“Akutagawa is staring at us.”

“He is? Where? I should have noticed..” Dazai was beginning to doubt his own skills.  
“above us.”

”… like… where through… I don’t see him”

”he’s like RIGHT THERE.”  
“Atsushi! That’s like, 250 meters away.” 
“ok well he’s still there.”  
“…Atsushi a regular person should know if someone’s that far away”

”… well.. are you saying I’m not regular.” 
“yes that is exactly what I’m saying”

”…rude…”

Chapter 2: Cats and cucumbers

The whole angency by this point had caught on to Atsushi’s catness, but that didn’t stop them from testing things out to see JUST how cat like he was.  

they tried water, and catnip, but nobody had thought the obvious test, a cucumber.  They’d all seen videos of it, so why not try?  That they did.

It began as kenji’s idea.  He had still been wondering what other cat like things Atsushi would do.  

Kenji and Ranpo had been acting like iPad kids, and watching cat videos instead of being productive.

they came across a video of a cat getting scared by a cucumber.  Both of them physically stopped and turned to stare at each other.  Matching grins on their faces.  

the both bolted up and ran to the infirmary.  Yosano had to be part of their plan.  By the end of the day, the three of them were in on this plan.

Kenji purchased a cucumber from a local farm.  Only the best of the best cucumbers would be used for experiments.  The day started as usual, but one thing different if that Dazai came in 15 minutes late.  Usually he’s a hour late!  

“Dazai.  You are 14 minutes and 47 seconds late today…” Kunikida trailed off near the end.  “It’s better that usual, so I will let it go.”  

the only reason Dazai was early today, was because it marks the day of the Atshushi cucumber test.  Yes.  That is the only way he will be productive.  

As soon as the agency building went quit, with only the sound of keyboards and pens, was the moment the plan begun.  Kenji sat up quietly, earning a glance from Atsushi.  
He was always very aware of his surroundings.      Much like a stray cat.  

When Atsushi turned back to his work, kenji put the Cucumber behind his chair and said nothing.  It took everything for people not to snicker at the thought.  

“Atsushi.”  Kunikida started. 
Atsuhi jumped a bit and turned to look at him.  He still did not notice the cucumber.  
Kunikida continued.  “You and Tanizaki need to investigate a bomb threat in a mall”.  Kunikida continues telling the details and both people agree.  

Atsushi turned in his spiny chair.  Stood up.  And then saw the cucumber.  

“EEEAAHHhgsha!!”  He jump up almost hitting his head on the ceiling and hid behind Kyouka, who was frozen still at the sudden noise.  

“What just happened…?”  Kyouka’s words were silent, but still heard.  

Ranpo, Kenji and Yosano bursted out laughing, the rest of the agency was staring silently at the situation.  

“Atsushi?” That was Tanizak “did you scream at that cucumber?”

It was silent for another moment.  Then the whole agency was laughing.  Atsushi’s face turned bright red. 
A mix of sentences were being heard through the laughter.  
“I KNEW HE WAS A CAT BUT DAMN!”

“PORT MAFIA JUST GOTTA GET THEIR HANDS ON A BUNCH OF CUCUMBERS AND WE’LL BE DONE FOR”.  

“I DONT KNOW?!? I EAT CUCUMBER I DONT KNOW WHY IT SCARED ME!”  Atsushi tried to cover his face.  

Atsushi’s desperate attempts to defend himself  only made the agency laugh harder.  

“No no!” Dazai cut in between laughs.  “What was that sound?!!?”  “EEEAAHHhgsha” he imitated.  The laughing did not subside until Kunikida cut in scolding everyone, and sending Atsushi and Tanizaki on their mission.  

at least they knew for sure.  Cucumbers are Atsushi’s worst enemy.
