Chapter 1: hidden

George isn’t normal. His kind are treated like pests. No education. No free will. Nothing. Just property. This is widely accepted by almost everyone. However, some people hide themselves. This is a difficult task considering most employers do not accept these type of people and often do checks for them. Like drug tests, except much crueler.
George’s family has been hiding themselves for as long as they can remember. This does make things a lot easier, because they have real birth certificates and social security cards. However, work is still very difficult. So, almost no one in George’s family has “real” jobs. His mother is an artist while his father is a poet. His older sister is an author and their main source of income. The eldest sibling, his brother Wilbur, is a doctor.
He’s the only one who chose to pursue something that requires an education, and he definitely paid the price for doing such. His brother is what some might call a “genius”. His parents recognized this at a young age. But, because of the risk associated with school he was unable to get any type of advanced education while young. (He was homeschooled)
It was a hard decision for a fourteen year old. But he did it knowing how much he could help the world if only given the chance. Wilbur made a decision. The decision to live his life separate from his family and nearly def.
Wilbur mutilated himself.
All for people he didn’t know. All for the same people who made him do it to begin with. Those same humans who see him as just an animal. The people that belittle him and abuse his kind.
Even though George never sees his brother, he’s still so proud of him. George looks up to him more than anyone else in the world. Even as a child he thought of his brother as a superhero above superheroes.
Wilbur calls every so often, but can’t interact too much because of the risks. Wilbur is a famous doctor currently pioneering the medical industry. If they got wind of his family he’d be exposed along with everyone else in their tree. It would be a horrible state of events. So he calls. Sometimes.
George knows the history of his people and what they do to survive. To be treated equally. He understands it all too well. Yet, with his normal friends he still wants to risk it all. He wants to risk his own safety just to live with two of his best friends. It’s foolish. He’d never do it. Never. But it is just so tempting. So dangerous.
He’ll fly too close to the sun. Basking in its beauty and grace, only to burn his wings to a crisp. Never to fly again. But the warmth beckons him. Even in this room. He can feel the sun’s warm glow drawing him in again.
So here he lays. again. Contemplating Dream’s invitation. His eyes burn with how long he’s been looking at the screen.
George is famous. Unlike his brother, he isn’t a genius or some noble person. No. He’s just a twitch streamer. A big one. One of the biggest on the platform. He never goes out. While he could just hide his body, he decided to not risk it. Living his life alone. It’s sad, but also not. It’s a weird feeling. Being able to do anything you want but also absolutely nothing you want.
George doesn’t even go to the grocery store, because he fears being recognized, and somehow forced to reveal his secret. So, how in the world could he manage to go halfway across the world? And then he’d need to pretend like he’s normal and not some sort of freak?
George sighs, opening up google and searching for different ways to hide his hybrid features.
Chapter 2: Daring
Notes:
We can get high while the whole world ends lalalalala blah blah
Chapter Text
George has done this countless times before. Looking at fur comparable tape and tight hats that might conceal his ears. Or even pants with built in tail pouches. It’s all so expensive, of course nothing George can’t afford as long as he isn’t found out. Hybrids aren’t allowed any type of income even off the grid ones like YouTube, Twitch, Onlyfans, or artwork commissions.
Hybrids were only recently allowed to work courtesy of Alexander Cain V. Gials enactment. While hybrids are allowed to work if they have an owner, all their money or other forms of payment must be shared with their owners. The owner can then choose what they want to do with that money. It’s kind of like how children are treated when it comes to finances.
If George or anyone within his family were to be exposed they’d immediately be stripped of all thec assets they’d built up since they’d started hiding. George’s family is fairly wealthy, but both Wilbur and George are Millionaires, so this would be a huge scandal. Hybrid rights are a huge issue in many countries around the world but most people aren’t on George’s side. While scientists say both humans and hybrids are considered animals, most humans don’t view it that way.
George hates doing this to himself, but just can’t help but dream. He wants it so badly. To finally be able to see his face. To be with him, to finally be able to touch him. (Not in a weird way of course.) George shakes his head ignoring that last thought.
George stares at the items in his cart contemplating buying them. He’s just buying them- just because he buys them doesn’t mean he’s moving in with Dream and Sapnap. In fact, he could use the tape for other things, like just going out to the grocery store. With that line of thinking George sighs hitting the “BUY” button and then relaxes a little.
It’s the first step towards his fate. Whether that’s his demise or his salvation, who can tell? Clearly not George.
George looks at his phone again, eyes straining on Dream’s most recent text message. It reads, “Are you looking forward to next month?” George knows what Dream’s thinking. How could he not? George has accepted Dream’s invitation countless times only to say something came up and reschedule. Dream expects the same thing to happen, so he’s checking in with George to make sure it’s not a hopeless venture. Maybe if Dream knew what George was going through he’d understand why George keeps calling the meet-up off, but dream will never understand.
Because he’ll never know. Or, at least George hopes so. If George was religious he’d probably pray for such a miracle.
George frowns and replies with “of course, how could i not be happy about being able to tell twitter how handsome you are?”
Dream’s typing and when George sees this he almost regrets lying to the blond. George wants nothing more than to mean those words but just can’t. George doesn’t know if he’ll ever be able to see the blond no less in a month. It feels like forever away but it always does then it’s just around the corner and George wonders where the time went.
Dream texts George saying “I wish lol”
George laughs replying with “oh come on we all already know your hot even if we haven’t see your face”
It takes Dream a moment to reply but he does “Tell that to Sapnap. He thinks I’m hideous.”
George says, “maybe i will” and then starts texting Sapnap begging for a picture of Dream. It feels light and sweet. It’s in such sharp contrast between his guilt and self pity over the whole thing. George hates lying to dream and hates that this world is making him do it. He thats that this world thinks so lowly of him that he has to hide himself away. He hates that Dream will probably think just a low of him as the rest of the world once he figures out George’s secrets.
George is a hybrid. He can imagine it now, Dream looking at his ears and tail and the disappointment written all over his face. The hatred in Dream’s heart is his kind. He sees it as clear as day and wants to hide from it all. To just forget about it and never contemplate showing Dream his secret.
However, a small part of him wonders if Dream is so selfish and blind to believe in everything he hears about hybrids. He wonders if Dream would accept him. He wonders if Sapnap would accept him. He wonders if he’ll be able to live out his wildest dreams.
What is his wildest dream? He just wants one thing. To live happily alongside Dream and Sapnap as equals. It’s so simple yet so far-fetched.
Just outside his house live hybrids who bow down to humans. Hybrids who crawl on all four to please their owners. Hybrids who have no rights and live like pests. Hybrids who lay homeless because they dared to dream like George does now. Hybrids who are behind bars because they dared to dream of a time when hybrids could live side by side with humans. Like George does now.
Can anyone blame George for wishing- for dreaming? Yes, and they will.
Dreaming is for humans not animals. George isn’t human and never will be.
