Switch

Summary:

Getting a call to one of their territories that someone was running around wreacking havoc wasn't supposed to end like this.
For one, they expected to find a rookie crew, or a bounty hunter harrassing the people of said island.
And second, neither Ace nor Marco expected to be on the recieving end of a devil fruit that switched their powers.

Part one is where it gets switched back at the end of it.
Part two is where they'll need to learn to live with the other's powers instead of their own.

Notes:

Thanks for this idea, Shadow, I had a lot of fun writing the boys (as I always do)

Chapter 1: Scenario 1 where their powers get switched back at the end of the adventure

Chapter Text

It had been a mission like any other. Ace and Marco got elected to go and deal with an upstart that tried to take over one of the islands under their protection. Nothing major, except that the person had a devil fruit that no one could tell them a lot about.

It was almost as if certain aspects of people could be switched when he touched them. Which was why the two strongest commanders were being sent out, to deal with him in a timely manner.

With Marco and Ace working together so well, they were the prefered couple to go on a mission and come home with success. The Moby accompanied them, so they were only sent to the island on their own. They would have back-up close by in the event that they would need it (most likely not, but that didn’t mean that their crew wouldn’t be rooting for them both as blue and orange flames made their show in the sky as the two commanders went to work).

The first thing that showed that something else was happening, was that the person they were looking for was not a grown man. Instead they found a teenage girl that was looking at her hands in tears, telling them that she didn’t know what was going on. She didn’t want any of this, but after eating a weird fruit she could suddenly switch aspects between people.

So far she had switched the gender of her parents and switched out her brother and his girlfriend's personalities. It didn’t seem that bad (except that her parents were the ruling body of the island, and had called upon the Whitebeard Pirates), and didn’t really warrant the attention of the whole crew.

However, with a crew full of devil fruit users, they had believed that they would be able to help her gain control over it. To help her so the switches wouldn’t keep happening.

At one point she might just switch out something that couldn’t be reversed, especially without training.

With their bleeding hearts, Marco and Ace couldn’t help but take the girl with them to introduce her to Oyaji and to ask their captain if it was a possibility to stay longer and be able to train Sara with her newfound gift.

New as it was, and unprepared for what it really was, no one expected them to come back so soon. Resulting in a party being thrown before Marco could explain what was going on, he rolled his eyes and led Sara and Ace into the ship to rest.

A shock went through him, and through Ace from the looks of it, as they both grasped one of Sara’s hands.

Looking at it in fear, nothing felt weird, which was what they told the girl. She didn’t mean to do this, it happened, and whatever it was would be shown sooner or later. There was no trouble in that, none at all, nor was she in trouble.

Marco took her to a room close to the one he and Ace used. Telling her to sleep, she had been through a lot, and had been worrying about her family and the way they might be stuck like that. She needed her sleep if she was to learn to harness her gift.

Once back in their room, taking a breather before joining the party on deck, Ace grinned as he looked at his hands.

“Nothing feels different at least.”

Marco shook his head, “I guess not -yoi. I don’t feel anything either, but we’ll have to wait and see if there was a switch of something tomorrow. Let’s go and join the party, we have a commanders meeting tomorrow anyway, we can tell the others why Sara is here then.”

Nodding as he clasped Marco’s hand with his, the both of them made their way to the deck. It had been way too long since the last party.

For the longest time, it seemed like nothing was wrong. Nothing seemed switched and Sara couldn’t tell them what it was that she switched. She didn’t even know with her parents or brother, they had to find that out after it happened.

As they asked her that, Ace and Marco reassured her that they didn’t mind. They were a little bummed at not knowing, but as long as it didn’t seem obvious there was nothing that would be bad enough for them to take it out on the little girl.

Telling her as such and reassuring her that while she needed to get control over her powers, nothing could happen that made the both of them annoyed with the fact that they didn’t know it.

That was until an emergency had happened and Marco was called into the infirmary. As usual he used his flames to try and find out what was going on. Being healing flames they were able to at least tell him what was going on. Not a lot could be done with his flames, on another person at least, but that didn’t take away that he could use them as an extra tool to state the correct diagnosis.

Only for him to pull his hand back when instead of the blue flames he was used to, orange and red flames appeared around his hand.

Looking at Haruta, his patient, with wide eyes Marco swallowed before going about this the old way. He had been a doctor for so long that even without his devil powers he was one of the best out there. He didn’t need his flames; even if he felt like a part of him was missing now that he knew what had been switched.

After treating everyone and leaving them in Deuce and the nurses capable hands, Marco went to look for Ace. Pulling the man into their room with a frown on his face.

“Whatever it is that has you looking like that, I didn’t do it.”

Marco shook his head with a sigh, “I know that -yoi. Doesn’t make it easier to know.”

Ace blinked at that a few times, tilting his head as he looked at Marco. That was until his lover held up his hand and lit it up, with orange flames.

Scrambling back, Ace looked on with wide eyes before looking at his own hands. Trying to light them on fire, he found that he couldn’t do it that easy. In fact, all he got were some blue and yellow sparks.

“You have got to be kidding me.”

Marco shook his head, “I almost burned Haruta before I noticed what was going on -yoi. It’s how I found out, maybe best it happened when there was no large crisis, I could have burned someone severely.”

Wetting his lips, Ace looked at his own hands, “Now what?”

Marco shook his head, “I don’t know -yoi. We can’t ask Sara to switch it back, as she isn’t aware of how she even did it. All we can do is train her and hope that she gets a hold on what she needs to do. Once she’s able to use it at will, she can change it back -yoi.”

Running a hand through his hair, Ace sighed, “This is going to be a problem and a half, isn’t it?”

Marco just hummed, pulling Ace close to his side, “I guess we’ll have to get some training in between the two of us -yoi. We need to get a hold on these powers, we can’t let Oyaji or the crew take the brunt of this. Not when we’re the strongest on the crew, we can beat this, I know we can -yoi.”

Nodding, Ace sighed again, leaning against Marco to try and not deal with this right now. To know that he wasn’t a fire logia anymore - or not right now - was kind of terrifying. He knew that he shouldn’t let change anything, he had never been someone who relied too much on his logia powers. But to know that he didn’t have them anymore, that after years of training with it, he had to start from square one because of a little girl that had unknowingly changed his and Marco’s powers.

Feeling a kiss being pressed in his hair, Ace hid his face in Marco’s chest. A whisper coming from the other man, “We’ll get through this, love -yoi. Don’t worry.”

Smiling slightly as he lifted his head from the chest it had been resting on, Ace smiled, “I know that, we are together in this, aren’t we. That is all we need for this to turn out alright. I know it’ll turn out alright, but that doesn’t take away that the power that I got used to these last few years is gone.”

Placing a hand over his own heart, Ace bit his lip, “I held the mera mera no mi ever since I set out. Ask Deuce, I ate it maybe one month in. It’s a part of me that’s gone now, it feels weird and I don’t like that I didn’t even notice that I didn’t have it anymore. I still feel warm, but I guess you do too. That doesn’t take away the fact that it’s just so odd that we switched fruits.”

Marco grinned, “I have the phoenix fruit for years longer than you had yours, so I know exactly how you feel -yoi. Hell, my and your epithet is fashioned after the fruit we have. That’s going to be quite a shock for the marines once they notice that thing going on.”

Ace hummed, “It’ll be alright, right.”

Marco nodded, “We’ll make sure that it turns out alright, love -yoi. We can deal with this all.”

In between helping Sara to manage her own fruit and try to switch people and switch it back. It was decided that they tried that on the people she switched around first, if only to make sure that no one got into the same situation as Ace and Marco.

Seeing as nothing could be truly kept hidden on the Moby, Marco and Ace had gone to Oyaji to tell him what had happened and to ask if he knew anything that might help them fix it. As annoying as it all was, Sara couldn’t switch them back. Which was starting to become a problem with the fact that Marco was able to use the mera mera no mi, but Ace was still trying to figure out how to get the phoenix fruit to work for him.

All he had been able to do for now was make blue and yellow flames appear, which was more than the sparks he had the first time he tried it. He also healed, which was a relief as Marines and rookie pirates hadn’t stopped attacking the crew. No one ever noticed the switch in their flame colors (which might just be for the best).

Those on the Moby, especially the commanders, had known something was wrong with the way that Ace and Marco suddenly spent a lot of time training. As the two strongest commanders, and the recognized powerhouses on the ship it was odd that the two of them felt the need to become even stronger.

Thatch, having heard from Haruta what had happened, had laughed himself silly when he went to look at a training session between the first and second commander. Laughing at the notion that Ace wasn’t all that handy with the devil fruit he now held.

Instead of the almost natural grace he usually had with his own mera mera no mi, using the Tori Tori no mi: Model Phoenix proved to be a problem. As Thatch looked over his friends he could see that Ace could summon the blue fire Marco had used too many times before, before trying and managing to turn one foot into a talon.

As he tried to turn his arms into wings however, all that happened was the appearance of several feathers before those disappeared. Ace leaned his elbows on his knees as he tried to catch his breath, and for a second Thatch felt sorry for the man.

Only when he could see Ace and Marco discussing something, with Marco seemingly giving tips on how to use the fruit. Given Marco’s own mastery of his own fruit, and the temporary Mera Mera no mi, it most likely was something in the likes of Ace not thinking too hard on that.

Which worked, as before long where Ace had been standing now stood a phoenix. This one with the tattoo on his back, where Ace’s was, instead of on the front like they were used to seeing on Marco’s form.

Marco laughed at something, applauding Ace on succeeding in this.

Only to blink at the bird in front of him as it told him something.

Thatch, wanting to know what was going on, came out of his hiding place just at the moment Ace yelled, “I can’t turn back. It won’t do what I want it to do, Marco! You told me to stop thinking so much and now look at what happened!”

Thatch started laughing, revealing himself to the other two commanders. Neither seemed to find the situation they found themselves in funny. In fact Marco stalking towards him with a scowl on his face was enough to have Thatch turn around and run to try and keep away from his brother.

He was well aware that it was a lost cause, even without his devil fruit, Thatch knew that Marco was the fastest person on the ship, beating even Jiru in terms of speed if he put his mind to it. That combined with his impressive observation haki made it impossible to keep away from the first commander.

Thatch forgot to look in front of him, keeping his senses on the blond behind him. Never noticing the person he ran into until he found Ace standing there. Once again human, with a scowl also edged on his face.

“Ace! You managed to turn back, buddy!”

Ace’s scowl only grew before he grinned at something behind Thatch, letting the chef know that Marco was standing behind him. The kick that sent him overboard was enough to let him realize that he might have taken it a bit too far with laughing like that. Neither Ace or Marco has chosen to have their devil fruit switches. That they were training, and training hard at that, to get this new fruit under control to not be a bother to the crew only spoke about their dedication to the crew.

Taking a hold of the rope that was tossed down, Thatch climbed up with the intention of apologizing to Ace and Marco for laughing.

—-

Sara had enjoyed her time on the Moby Dick. She had gotten to know the pirate crew that her parents always spoke highly off. The whole crew treated her like a guest on their ship, even if she had managed to switch the devil fruit of their two strongest commanders. Something she felt really terrible about, she saw the things both of them were able to do and those that they weren’t able to do anymore because of her.

It made her try extra hard to get her fruit under control. To try and make sure that she knew how to work with it, to switch and switch back people that had been on the receiving end of her devil fruit.

When the time came to train once more, she was happy beyond belief when her training paid off. When she was able to switch back the devil fruits, as seen by the way Ace lit on fire the moment he was a fire human again.

Marco on the other hand changed his arms into wings and took a lap around the ship to stretch his wings. For all that they hadn’t minded, not really, the switch in their powers. It still felt confining in a way that neither had liked.

Marco loved to fly, she found out, and not being able to do that with the mera mera no mi was tearing at him in ways that only Ace, and eventually Sara, saw. He needed to find a new way of dealing with the stress that came with his position as Head Doctor, First Mate and First Division commander.

Seeing them settling in their devil fruit was almost as if someone settled into their skin, after puberty or after coming out and accepting themselves as they were. It kind of felt the same way, which she was glad for. Her parents and her brother and his girlfriend had learned to live with their switch too but were more than ready to be switched back either way.

Grinning as Ace hugged her close as Marco went to tell Mr. Whitebeard they needed to drop her off at her home island once more as she had learned all that they could possibly teach her. She had mastered her devil fruit, which only left an awakening, which would take her several more years.

Not that she minded that, she had gotten so much help already. She was more than ready to live up to this, to make sure that she got even better at handling her fruit.

Once on her island, she didn’t waste any time in switching back her family to give them back their lives. They had waited long enough as she had been out to say as a young girl, it was good to be home and to be able to make this happen. She didn’t need to worry about switching others and being unable to switch them back. She knew that she was able to do it now.

Her parents thanked the Whitebeard Pirates for their help, apologizing for calling them here with an excuse thinking that they wouldn’t come for something like this. Mr. Whitebeard waved it away, even if he smiled and told them that he had worried for his sons who had their powers switched. Even if it all turned out for the best.

She waved them all off as they left again, happy that this had happened in the end.

Chapter 2: A different ending, one where Ace and Marco aren’t able to switch back.

Chapter Text

Finding themselves on the island, Marco and Ace were shocked to find that the person wreaking havoc was a toddler. A little girl of about 4 years old, who it had seemed, had gone one an adventure on her own and encountered a devil fruit.

Like most children, she had tasted it, seeing as it did look like it would taste good. It didn’t but that was a problem of another kind.

Right now, they had a toddler with a devil fruit power, who didn’t know how to use it. In an environment where people didn’t know what a devil fruit was. How that was possible for an island this far into the New World was something none of them could get over. Her parents had been shocked and had called in the help of the Whitebeard Pirates whose territory they belonged to, thinking that someone was harassing them by switching people’s gender, personalities or even eye and hair color.

When Marco tried to explain that this was the work of a devil fruit, the girl grabbed his hand. Grabbing onto Ace’s hand not long after, resulting in Marco suddenly catching fire - Ace’s fire.

At the same time, Ace let out a sound none of them had ever heard the second commander make before there was a phoenix there where Ace had been standing not too long ago.

A large portion of the crew had started to laugh, thinking that this was too funny for words. To see them having switched devil fruit powers. Sadly, the inhabitants of the island believed them to be attacked, making them retreat until other commanders and Oyaji himself went to talk to them to try and explain what was going on. To explain that their unknown assailant was just their daughter with a devil fruit power.

Marco and Ace were in no way trying to attack. In fact his commanders and sons had been taken by surprise with the switch in their own devil fruit powers. Being a logia and a zoan at that, their fruit reacting to that shock in a way that neither had expected.

Which brought on the next problem, because of what had happened, the inhabitants of the island hadn’t wanted to toddler close to the Whitebeard Pirates in fear of her switching others. They didn’t want the wrath of the crew upon them, as they had seen the way both commanders had reacted at the knowledge that this was for a longer period of time.

This also meant that they couldn’t be switched back and this would for all intents and purposes be for the rest of their lives.

Oyaji hadn’t dared to press for them to let their daughter on the Moby for a short while, to see if she was able to switch back Ace and Marco. As his strongest commanders and best fighters, he didn’t want them at such a disadvantage as relearning a devil fruit power would bring them.

It didn’t help, if anything, it made them all leave all that much sooner when it became obvious that the inhabitants of their island become agitated. Not wanting them to lash out, or worse, let the Marines know what was going on and the vulnerability the Whitebeard Pirates were under right now.

His look directed at his two commanders was enough for them to storm off to their cabin. Or for Marco to storm off, only to come back later to help Ace move as he still hadn’t been able to transform back.

Several of the crew had to stifle a laugh at that, only stopping, palling and apologizing when Marco’s icy glare was directed towards them. For all that Marco was very loved, and didn’t get angry often they understood that this was something that didn’t help them in the slightest.

If anything, the glare the man sent them all made them aware of the trouble this brought along. Ace and Marco were amazing with their devil fruits, their original devil fruits, being what was going on now, they would need to relearn it all from scratch.

Thatch cursed, before turning to go and see if there was anything he could do. Even if it was to bring his brothers food while they contemplated on what to do now that this had happened. Switching back wasn’t going to happen, so something else had to be done to not take their edge away.

“Does anyone have any good training exercises for this? It’s been ages since we’ve had a new devil fruit user on board.”

When none of the commanders answered, he cursed again, before sighing, “Let’s just give them space then. And make sure that they have the back deck to train their new powers.”

For all that Thatch was the fun loving, pranking chef of the crew, a lot of people forget that in times of crisis when Marco wasn’t available (and recently when Ace wasn’t able to take over) he would step up and do a wonderful job.

Being best friends with Marco and Ace, one who had been a captain before joining them and one who was training to take over as their new captain should something happen to their Oyaji, meant that Thatch was well aware of what needed to happen on the Moby Dick and how to best get it done.

He was also aware that Marco and Ace loved training on the back deck as it was small enough for them to move around in, but still closed off enough that they weren’t in direct danger of landing in the sea.

Shaking his head, Thatch retreated to the kitchen. He remembered that Marco had been hungry beyond belief the first time he transformed. The phoenix draining him of his power, Ace with his already big appetite wouldn’t be any different.

“Let’s just hope that they get a hang of this soon enough, we can’t be without our two powerhouses for that long.”

—-

On the other side of the Moby, Marco slammed the door as he dropped his cargo on the bed to look at a very sad looking phoenix. It was weird to see someone else as the mythical bird, especially as it had been him who had the fruit (for as long as he could remember really) so for it to not be his, it was concerning to say the least.

“Try to relax, love, to get out of the transformation you need to relax -yoi.”

Ace the Phoenix just cooed at him, his eyes glaring in a way that Marco could understand meant that the man was trying that and it was not working. He was stuck and hated it.

Running a hand through his hair, Marco sighed, frowning as his hand came back on fire. Waving his hand to put out the flame, he only sighed as this took him back to a time when he just got his fruit and the time he had needed to take to make sure that he knew how to use it.

It had taken him years to master his fruit to this level, to be able to be the powerhouse of the Whitebeard Pirates. The first mate is more than just a name, but here he was at the start of it all.

“I can’t believe that this happened -yoi. I loved my fruit, I knew my fruit. Sea, my epithet is named after that fruit, and now it’s not even mine anymore -yoi.”

Ace just scowled at him, which looked hilarious with a beak, yet Marco couldn’t get himself to laugh at the picture it made.

“I know, love, the same goes for you -yoi. This is just such bad timing, with the number of marine raids we’ve had to endure, Oyaji and the crew can use our help.”

Ace frowned, before slowly the blue flames started to retreat to show Ace’s human form. He was still scowling, something unreadable in his eyes as he took in Marco - who once again had a flame in his hair. Patting it out, Ace hummed, “I know…”

Pulling him closer, Marco hid his face in Ace’s hair, breathing in slowly to try and stay in the moment. It had happened, no matter how annoying it was, and how inconvenient it would be for the both of them and the crew.

“I guess that means we’ll both need to plan for a lot more training these days, I was enjoying the fact that we could start to cut down as your haki is making good progress -yoi.”

Ace beamed at him at the praise, before realizing why they would need to do that, going back to scowling and huffing not a moment later.

“Are we going to manage this? To relearn a power just like that, it took me years to be on the level I’m now, I suspect you’re not that different on that.”

Marco just nodded, pulling Ace closer so the man was practically in his lap.

“We did manage it once, so we can teach the other how to wield it -yoi. I don’t think that there is a chance that we can get switched back, not in the short term at least.”

Ace swallowed thickly, “I loved going on rides on striker, I guess I can forget that for the near future.”

Marco nodded, somber, “I loved flying, it made me feel so free, I’ll have to give that up too -yoi.”

Neither talked after that, just basking in each other’s presence to try and get over the fact that a part of them. A part that they had come to see as part of them for the longest time wasn’t there anymore.

—-

They stayed in their rooms for the majority of the day, not wanting to look at their brothers. Least of all as some of them had found the whole situation funny, they wouldn’t be finding it that funny when realizing that now they would need to go out more. Sending Ace and Marco alone wouldn’t do a world of good right now, as they were still getting used to their new powers.

It was only as Thatch knocked to bring them dinner, after he brought them lunch not that long after Ace managed to turn himself back into a human, pushing in a tray filled with food for the ship’s resident black hole.

“How are you both doing?”

Marco and Ace just hummed, not saying anything except to thank Thatch for bringing them food after everything.

The chef sighed, “I made sure they kept the back deck clear for you. If you want you can get some extra sparring time before dark? I also went by the other commanders to distribute your duties so you’ll both have more time to get these powers under control.”

Ace blinked at Thatch at that, before looking at Marco who was smiling at the chef in front of them.

“Thanks -yoi. I think we might just take you up on that, if only to make sure that we can get this under control as soon as possible.”

Thatch nodded, “I figured, and yeah, Izou is writing reports. I know you get annoyed as you can’t read mine or Haruta’s chicken scratch.”

Marco laughed, “Glad to know you remember that -yoi.”

Thatch nodded, as Marco pulled Ace after him now that they had eaten their dinner. He would take the chance to get a headstart on getting control over these powers. Especially as a marine raid could be on the horizon soon enough. Neither of them wanted to deal with the fact that it could cost them a lot if they weren’t in top form.

“Let’s go,Ace -yoi. I think we can manage just fine, if we take this as it is. Some sparring can go a long way, I know it did in terms of your haki.”

Ace groaned, knowing that he would be crawling into bed black and blue that night. For all that Marco was his lover, the man was a hard taskmaster making sure that Ace was doing his best on each moment.

He only perked up that if he got this under control he would be able to heal himself instead of being the one littered with bruises.

It did indeed work to be getting some sparring time in, to make sure that they were getting time to adjust and to learn what this would mean for the both of them. Their powers might be different, but Marco and Ace were nothing if not stubborn.

They would do this and manage just fine in making sure that they were back as the top commanders in no time, only with switched powers.

What both of them forgot however, was that while Marco was an amazing doctor even without his fruit; he had gotten used to using his fruit to help him diagnose people’s ailments. His blue flames didn’t really heal anything except for himself (and now Ace), but they were able to lessen pain and discomfort.

Which was what he was missing right now as Haruta, after a mission gone wrong, came back with a bullet lodged into his thigh. With the amount of blood the other commander had lost, he didn’t dare use anesthesia, but the bullet needed to be taken out.

“Deuce, go and find me Ace -yoi!”

The former Spade nodded once, before running off and coming back with Ace. Ace, who was covered just as the nurses were, listened to Marco’s directions as he pressed a blue flaming hand next to the bullet wound to see Haruta relax under the flames.

It gave Marco the possibility to pull the bullet from the wound and dress the wound as blood was administered. As Haruta was left to sleep off this ordeal, turning to Ace as they left the operating room to smile at his lover.

“You know, you’d make a great nurse, now.”

Ace blushed at that, not at all thinking back about that one roleplay they once indulged in. Marco meant it though, Ace had been a great help, and one he wouldn’t say no to.

Ace bit his lip as he saw that this was serious, “As long as I don’t have to wear a dress and the leopard tights.”

Marco leered at him, “You’d look amazing in them, you know -yoi.”

Ace blushed all the redder, pushing Marco away from him at that. He was well aware that Marco had a thing for roleplay in the bedroom and while indulging the man now and again, that didn’t mean that he needed his lover to do it while they were in public.

Sighing as he pulled off the scrubs, Ace turned away before saying, “I’ll think about it, can’t promise you anything. But it can’t do any harm if there are more medics on this ship, not with the amount of people we have running around.”

—-

In the end, they did settle into their new powers fast enough that when the marines or rookie crews found out that it was Portgas D. Ace who turned into a phoenix, while it was Marco that lit on fire, they still got their asses handed to them.

They showed the world that even such a hordle wouldn’t keep them down for long. They adapted and made it work in their own way.

Besides that, Marco made sure to learn how to power the Striker, to get the feeling that he was still flying even if it wasn’t as high up in the sky as he was used to being. In return, Ace learned to fly - first alone, and later with Marco on his back - to also find the freedom he was used to having on the striker.

It became their bounding time once their sparring sessions weren’t as needed as they had been at the start of this whole ordeal.

Months later, as Ace was as close to a doctor he could be without an actual education, they would be happy that he agreed to learn. That this had happened to them when it did, as he found Teach standing over Thatch with a knife in his hand.

Ace let out a burst of haki that knocked Teach unconscious, before he went to treat Thatch and pull him through the whole ordeal. He would be on bedrest for a long while, but he would survive.

As for Teach, he was tried by the Whitebeard Pirates as the traitor he was, made to eat the devil fruit he had been ready to kill for before they dropped him in the sea. He was willing to do all that for a devil fruit, he could have it, and not gain even a smidge from it. Only to lose everything he had worked for, as well as his life.

—-

After the trial was said and done, Ace and Marco were lounging on the figure head, a grin on their faces as they leaned on the other.

“Would you want to switch, given the chance?”

Marco hummed as he looked at Ace, who shrugged, “We’re coming close to that island this all started. We could go and look for that girl and ask her to switch us back?”

Wrapping his arms around Ace as he pulled his lover closer, Marco asked, “Do you want to switch back -you?”

Ace shook his head, “Not really, no. But I wanted to ask you, common courtesy and all that.”

Laughing, Marco shook his head, “I’m good -yoi.”

Nodding, they turned to look at the sea. Knowing that the time for them to take over once Oyaji died was coming closer. With the time they both spent in the infirmary they knew that Oyaji was getting worse, his death was inevitable, no matter how much they hoped that wasn’t the case.

It would hurt all of them, but together, as shown, they would be able to do it. They would lead the Whitebeard Pirates and make sure their Oyaji’s dream lived on.
