She'd left a carton of smokes on the table, corners scuffed and beat to shit, with his name spelt correctly on the edge. The fountain pen she'd used is uncomfortably nostalgic, this old-world sort of memory that has him stimming it between rough fingers. He wonders if he can still write in cursive. Doesn't attempt, though. No point.
She's trying too hard, he thinks. Either to establish an untrue sense of security, or to simply be liked. It's the latter undoubtedly, he's learning.
