Chapter Text
You were working at your boring job at a local convenience store, mindlessly stocking cans on the shelves. All you could think about was how much longer you had until your shift was over. You hadn't even noticed the thin man who was browsing the aisle right behind you until you heard the voices of two shocked women.
"Oh my god, what's wrong with that man?" "He looks like a walking skeleton!" the women exclaimed. Toshinori froze. He knew they were talking about him. These kinds of comments weren't unusual for him. He usually kept quiet and tried his best to ignore them but your eyes widened when you heard those rude remarks.
You turned to face the two women who were gawking at the customer. "Excuse me, if you're going to be rude to other customers then I'm going to have to ask you to leave! It's not ok to talk about people like that!" Toshinori stared at you in quiet disbelief. He wasn't used to others standing up for him. As All Might, he was always the one standing up for everyone else. The two women quickly became flustered from having their rude actions called out and hurried along.
"I'm so sorry about that. How rude do people have to be to say something like that out loud?" You said to Toshinori as you turned your head to look at him. Although extremely rude, the comments those ladies made weren't entirely untrue. Toshinori was extremely thin with sunken cheeks and hollow eyes but you didn't judge him for that. Why would you? You didn't know his story. For all you knew, he could have a serious medical issue.
Toshinori blinked at you before giving a smile. "Oh, it's alright. I'm used to it." Despite appearing so thin and frail, there was a charm to him. His smile was sweet and sincere.
"But you shouldn't be! Is it really so hard for people to act like decent humans?" you asked.
Toshinori tilted his head slightly as he continued to stare at you. "Unfortunately, that's just how some people are...They just don't think before they speak, I guess." Toshinori felt a little insecure in front of you, not just because of those rude comments but because he found you rather attractive.
"Well they definitely should or they shouldn't talk at all." You responded with furrowed brows before your expression turned more light-hearted. You smiled at Toshinori softly.
He stared at you for a short moment, smiling back at you before reading the name tag on your work vest. "___...It's nice to meet you. I'm Toshinori Yagi." Toshinori wondered what he was doing. He wanted to keep talking to you but someone like you wouldn't want to be seen with him, right? After all, in this form, he was a frail, quirkless nobody.
"It's nice to meet you too, Toshinori!" You spoke to him cheerfully, smiling brightly. Something about your smile made his chest feel warm.
"Maybe if you're free later, I can take you somewhere to eat...a-as a thank you for standing up for me, of course!" Toshinori blushed and secretly cursed at himself. His words just seemed to come out on their own. He wondered what he was doing, was he asking you on a date? He thought he was making a huge fool of himself. Someone like him couldn't possibly have any chance of a love life, right? But would it be so bad if he did take you out on a date? It's not like anyone recognized him as All Might in this form so it would be harmless...right? These questions clouded Toshinori's mind until your voice broke his train of thought.
"Sure! Why not?" you responded. Toshinori froze and blinked at you, a little dumbfounded by your answer. Did he hear you right?
"My shift ends in about an hour from now, would you wanna go out then?" Those words, the way you phrased that sentence; "go out", made him blush like crazy.
"Y-Yeah, that should be fine!" Toshinori forced a smile but he was freaking out on the inside.
You giggled lightly at his adorable blush. "Cool! Meet me here in an hour then?"
"Y-yeah! I'll be here," Toshinori replied. You gave him one more smile before returning to your work. Toshinori stared at you for a few seconds in silence, still registering what just happened before he took his shopping basket and went on his way.
