Chapter 1: Losing My Mind

Chapter Text

The beautiful young woman with the pretty eyes is all Riley kept thinking about ever since he ran into her. (Name)— Her name tastes like sweet honey dripping from his tongue. He sighed at the thought of her. As much as he wanted to continue thinking of her, he couldn’t as he already had his own mate to cherish. Still, his mind couldn’t stop racing from the thought of her. Nightfall was approaching. He was thirsty and the thought of the task he needed to work on replaced his mind muse. He had to create an army for the times.

[~*~]

The birds chirped softly as gray skies covered overhead. It had been a chaotic evening for the pack last night. It had been a week since Harry’s funeral and the return of the Cullens back to Forks. Leah and Seth phased for the first time yesterday evening and along with Quil later on around one in the morning. Sam, Jared, and Paul subdued Leah and Seth while Embry and Jacob handled Quil. There was some tension between Jacob and Embry still, but their friend is what mattered right now.

Emily finished making breakfast before she headed out to work as (Name) put her shoes on for school, her school bag sitting on the dining chair against the door. “What’s for breakfast?” (Name) asked as she stood up and headed towards the kitchen.

“I made some pancakes and sausage and bacon on the side,” Emily answered as she grabbed the syrup and added some to her pancakes on her filled plate.

“I’ll eat one,” (Name) grinned cheekily as she grabbed a plate and utensils. …Before the Brady Bunch arrive and eat everything, of course.”

“Do you plan on going back to school here in the Rez?” Emily asked as they sat together at the kitchen table. “You’d be around Jacob and the others again. Not to mention it’ll stop Sam from worrying.”

“I will for the next school year,” (Name) admitted. “ I want to be here for Vanessa and Layla this year. Layla’s family is moving to New York and Vanessa is going to college in Texas.”

They ate quietly together amongst themselves, until (Name) cleared her throat and commented to Emily, “So Jacob told me he, uhh.. That he imprinted on me. I wanted to ask, but… Did my brother imprint on you?”

Emily didn’t say anything at first, at least until she finished chewing on the piece of bacon. “He did,” she replied curtly. “Why do you ask?”

“How did you know?” (Name) wondered “Or did Sam tell you?”

Emily sighed, pondering on what to say. (Name) was aware of the scars on her face, but the cover up story was she had been attacked by a bear one day. She didn’t want to tell (Name) that her brother was the reason she had the scars. She loved (Name) and Sam too much for his sister to have resentment towards him especially after having compared Sam to their father, Joshua Uley. “It took several times of me rejecting him before I finally gave him a chance,” Emily explained.  “He had imprinted on me when he had.. When he had been with someone else at that time. I felt horrible, but I ended up falling for Sam. He’s definitely my better half.”

Emily didn’t have to say the name to know who she was referring to. (Name) was well aware that at one point Sam had been in a long-term relationship with Leah Clearwater. When she was younger, (Name) and Leah were close, especially when Sam and her were together. (Name) at one point thought that Leah had been the one for Sam, but all of that changed out of nowhere. Leah had stopped coming around. When (Name) would try to text her on what was going on, her messages were left unanswered as Leah completely shut (Name) out from her life. Leah no longer talked to (Name) and eventually Emily started coming around.

When it had been time for Sam to move in with Emily, he had (Name) follow with him. Emily was the sister (Name) never had. “I’m glad you’re his imprintee Emily,” (Name) commented.

Emily smiled softly as (Name) got up from her seat and took her plate over to the sink. “I better go,” (Name) announced. “Jacob is dropping me off at school. He’ll be picking me up this afternoon as well.”

“Don’t forget you’re staying after school to work on your final term paper,” Emily added as (Name) groaned in defeat as she grabbed her backpack and her light gray hoodie, putting on the hoodie and then putting the shoulder straps of her backpack.

“I’ll see you this afternoon!” exclaimed (Name) as she headed outside where Jacob was waiting in his motorcycle for her.

“Hey beautiful,” greeted Jacob as he stood outside on the bike along with an extra helmet on hand for (Name). He was wearing a black shirt and some nice dark blue jeans along with his usual Converse. “Ready to go?”

“Yep,” chimed (Name) as she jumped on the bike, settling behind Jacob as she took the bike helmet. “Don’t forget I’m staying after school to finish my term paper for my history class.”

“No worries,” Jacob replied back as (Name) wrapped her arms around Jacob’s waist as he revved up the motorcycle. “Better hold on tight, baby.”

[~*~]

(Name) had been the topic of that morning’s conversation amongst classmates. Some girls were in awe of the masculine heart throb she had arrived with, especially after Jacob pressed a quick kiss on her lips before leaving to go to school. She made her way down the hallway towards her first period as the bell would ring in several minutes. Layla had already texted her that she was in class waiting for her at their usual table within Art class. As (Name) made her way down the fine arts hallway, a voice greeted her, “You are a welcoming sight to see.”

(Name) came to a halt as her gaze landed on the familiar golden-colored irises that belonged to none other than Edward Cullen. “So you’re officially back,” (Name) acknowledged in surprise. “I thought you were joking.”

Edward walked over to her, towering over her as he greeted her with a warm smile. “I am glad to see you’re doing well although I have to admit you smell somewhat like ‘wet dog’,” retorted Edward in a low voice.

“Is this a remark on the ‘wolf’ thing or–”

“Well that’s the scent I get just as wolves get a different smell when we’re near or were around someone for a long period of time,” Edward explained as he looked around the near-empty hallway. “Still, your perfume masks most of the scent.”

“I’ll take that as a compliment,” remarked (Name) as she cleared her throat. “As much as I want to catch up, I have to get to class before the bell rings–”

Ding-Ding-Ding!!

“Just great,” groaned (Name) as she shut her eyes in frustration and pinched the bridge of her nose. “I’m tardy.”

Opening her eyes as she sighed in annoyance, (Name) began to make her way down the hall. “Here, let me take your class. What do you have?” Edward asked as he followed behind her.

“Art– Mr. Anders’s class,” (Name) muttered as she walked briskly to the class, finding the door of her first period.

Before she opened the door, Edward placed his hand over hers, as (Name) quickly looked up in confusion. “Please allow me to help,” Edward murmured softly as he released her hand.

(Name) moved away from the door as Edward opened it, greeting Mr. Anders as (Name) followed behind. “Good morning Mr. Anders,” Edward exclaimed in a good mood.

“Ah, good morning Mr. Cullen,” Mr. Anders replied as he eyed his student behind Edward. “What can I do for you?”

“I just wanted to let you know that (Name) had been with me as I accidentally bumped into her and she dropped her bag,” Edward explained, a white lie to his former teacher. “I apologize if I made her tardy.”

Seemingly falling for the lie, Mr. Anders nodded, smiling brightly at Edward being a good ‘Samaritan.’ “Thank you for bringing her in,” he said as he glanced at (Name). “I’ll allow this to slide. Just don’t let it be a continuous thing.”

“Yes sir,” (Name) answered as she quickly made her way to her seat beside her friend as several classmates started to whisper amongst themselves.

Edward left the class and soon, Mr. Anders began his daily announcements. “So are you going to tell me what is up with Edward Cullen?” Layla hissed in a low voice as (Name) rolled her eyes.

“Nothing,” (Name) muttered as she took out her sketchpad and colored pencils bag from her backpack. “He literally made me tardy so he brought me to class.”

“Why?”

(Name) scoffed in disbelief. “What do you mean ‘why’? That was it. All he did was talk to me and ended up making me tardy.”

“I think Edward Cullen might have a crush on you,” Layla smirked as (Name) rolled her eyes again.

“... I saw Edward Cullen with Bella Swan this morning,” the girls overheard a classmate gossiping to another. “I heard they got back together.”

“There’s your answer,” (Name) retorted back as she got to work on today’s assignment; sketching a rough draft of the final art project for the year. “On top of that, I’m seeing someone already if you haven’t heard.”

“Wait!” Layla shrieked in a hushed whisper, “They guy that showed up to pick you up with your brother a couple of weeks ago?”

“My lips are sealed.”

“Tell me everything!” Layla shrilled in excitement, earning a shhh from their teacher.

“Just announce my dating life to the class, why don’t you,” (Name) mumbled sarcastically as Layla grabbed her phone to text Vanessa. “Just get started on your work..”

[~*~]

(Name)’s heart raced as stared at the scribbled name on her piece of notebook paper in front of her. The clacking of a keyboard’s keys filled her dimly-lit room as (Name) typed out a specific name on the search engine, Delilah Mathers . How did (Name) come across that name? Well, it was only after she stumbled on an old article photo of a young man that resembled Edward Cullen and a woman that looked eerily similar to her when she was researching the Spanish Flu for her term paper. (Name) chewed on her thumb’s nail as a few links popped up regarding the deceased woman. She clicked on the first article; it was an obituary honoring the young woman that stemmed back to 1918.

“... Delilah Mathers was the only daughter to Benjamin Mathers and Katherine Mathers, nee Oswald… young socialite… died due to the Spanish Influenza,” (Name) murmured softly as she skimmed through the obituary.

She scrolled down further and noticed a picture of Delilah and her family as well as a familiar face that made her blood run cold. Beside Deliliah was a young man. In the caption underneath the photo had the names in order as she glanced at the name Edward Anthony Mason. Her heart began to beat rapidly as felt a sudden rush of nausea hit her.

“What the fuck?” (Name) said out loud to herself as her eyes began to gloss over with brimming tears. “What the fuck is all this?”

She sat back against her desk chair as she tried to process everything. Honestly, she was just trying to do a book report on the Spanish Influenza for her history class. Pinching the bridge of her nose, she groaned tiredly as she felt a familiar throbbing on her left temple. This was either too coincidental or is she the reincarnation of Edward’s former lover?

[~*_*~]

Five hours before

(Name) chewed on her cheeseburger slowly as Vanessa and Layla chattered amongst themselves as (Name)’s eyes landed on the brunette girl she had been clinging to Edward and his family ever since they came back to Forks. “The girl is like a… she’s like a leech,” Vanessa exclaimed as she licked off the nacho cheese from her index finger and thumb.

Layla stifled a laugh as (Name) rolled her eyes as much as she hated to admit it. “She’s happy, that’s all that matters,” (Name) stated as she and Edward made eye contact, only for (Name) to glance away.

Alice had also been there sitting with who she assumed was her boyfriend, Jasper Cullen. Now that she knows what they really are, (Name) realized Jasper just looks uncomfortable instead of acting posh, most likely from the scent of human blood. An odd thought came to (Name) as she ate. Does Jasper or any of them get drunk from the scent of women menstruating? (Name) couldn’t help but chuckle at the thought and would probably joke about it later to Jacob. As she finished eating, (Name) grabbed her tray with her trash and stood up from her seat. “Where are you heading to (Name)?” Layla asked as (Name) slipped her backpack strap over her left shoulder.

“To the library,” (Name) retorted as she went to the nearest trash bin and threw her trash away and walked to her friends. “As much as I wanted to stay after school and get this done, I think I’ll just go now and work on my paper for history during my off period.”

“Want us to join you?” Vanessa quipped as (Name) shook her head before heading off to the library on her own, not before saying a brief farewell to her friends.

Once there, (Name) occupied the last table near the nonfiction section of the library and placed her backpack as a mark for her space. For their class assignment, the students had to write an essay on a past global event and its after effects for their history class. (Name) chose the Spanish Influenza pandemic for her topic. Fifteen minutes had passed and (Name) found two books and a few articles for her start to get research on.

Thirty minutes into (Name) researching she stood up from her table and headed towards the library computers. So far the information she’s found was local and how the Spanish Flu affected Europe. She wanted to find out more information on how it affected the United States and worldwide. Typing in a few keywords in the ‘search’ bar, she began her internet search. She passed through various articles until she found one that talked about various states.

Double clicking the link, (Name) skimmed over the article. It talked about Southern states at first and then proceeded to talk about Minnesota and Illinois. Various photos of people sick and people wearing masks appeared on the screen. Pictures of families prior to the pandemic appeared until two photos piqued (Name)’s interest.

A family of three, (Name) read the caption underneath, “ The Mathers family, Benjamin Mathers, the Patriarch and Founder of Dolly Confectionery and his late wife, Katherine Mathers, and their daughter Delilah Mathers. Both wife and daughter died during the pandemic.”

Brown eyes widened as (Name)’s stared at Deliliah’s face. It was like looking into the mirror as she scrolled down to the other picture with the Mathers family and another family together— what she saw next quickly made (Name) log off the computer and quickly go get her personal belongings, leaving the research material on the table without care.

(Name) didn’t even bother going to class- she ended up leaving the school and ultimately decided to walk back to the Rez.

[~*_*~]

Back to the present, (Name) couldn’t believe what she was staring at in front of her. What did it mean? Maybe this is an alternate timeline or maybe a paradox in which people are ‘recycled’ and live different lives or maybe (Name) was just being paranoid. Still, should she be afraid? Vampires and wolves were creatures she could handle, but the thought of being reincarnated? That’s another story. (Name) took a deep breath and sighed. There was no use or freaking out over it. Simply, it could be coincidental.

Composing herself, (Name) left her room. In her mind, she decided that she would stay home the next couple of days. She just needed to clear her thoughts and work on her assignments at home. Returning back to the comfort of her room and shutting her door without locking it, her phone chimed of an incoming message. “Speak of the devil and he shall appear,” (Name) muttered as she read Edward's name on her screen.

Instead of responding, (Name) just let her phone ring. (Name) went and plopped herself into her bed just her bedroom door suddenly opened. It was Jacob.

“I was looking for you,” Jacob said worriedly as he hurried over to her. “Why did you leave school? Sam almost had a heart attack when he got a call from the school.”

“I didn’t feel well,” (Name) replied, wiping the tears from her eyes she realized were beginning to form.

“You should’ve called or sent a message,” Jacob scolded as laid down beside her and pulled her into a comforting embrace. “I don’t know what I’d do if something were to happen to you– Babe what’s wrong?”

(Name) shook her head as she pulled herself closer to him. “If I told you, I don’t think you’d  ever believe me.”

“(Name) you’re talking to a guy who turns into a wolf at will,” Jacob joked. “How bad could this be?”

She motioned for him to go look at her computer. Jacob gave her a perplexed look as he rose up and walked over to her computer. He stood there in disbelief as he began to scroll through the article she had been on. “What the hell,” he said to himself in shock as he glanced over to his imprintee and then back at the photo. “There’s no way.”

(Name) sniffled lightly as she walked over to Jacob as he pulled her close to him. “I think… I think I might be the reincarnation of Delilah Mathers.”

Jacob only tightened his hold on her.

Chapter 2: Until I Found You

Summary:

(Name) makes a decision that will change everything between her and Edward especially as her feelings grow for Jacob.

Chapter Text

The school desk in front of Edward Cullen had been empty for three days now. Class resumed like nothing as his golden irises kept a visual lock that maybe (Name) would magically appear before him. An inkling of negative feelings bubbled in his throat that her absence wasn’t because she was sick, especially with the unanswered texts he’s sent her. What if she became one of them?

No, Edward couldn’t think like that. “She’ll be back soon,”  he thought to himself as he started working on the assignment handed to the class.

Three days turned into a week and half and still no sign of her. During lunch, Edward couldn’t help but pry into (Name)’s friends, searching for the possibility of an answer but to no avail. He felt useless as he sat beside his ‘siblings’ and Bella at their table especially with the looks of worry (Name)’s friends expressed. He cleared his throat, earning the attention of his group. “I’ll be back,” Edward announced. “I need to clear my thoughts— it’s pretty loud today..”

“Do you want me to go with you?” Bella inquired  as she gently clung her pale hand onto his arm.

“No,” Edward replied. “I’ll be fine. Keep Alice and Jasper company.”

Bella nodded in agreement as she went back to the conversation she and Alice were having. He rose from his seat as Edward made his way towards the main hallway as he headed to the library and front office area. It didn’t take long for the familiar scent of (Name)’s perfume to waft into his nose as it  came from the front office. Like Peter Piper, the scent beckoned for it to be followed, unaware of his golden eyes turning into a black color and pursued. He could see from the glass windows that it was indeed her, but she wasn’t alone.

Sam Uley’s impintee was standing beside her before the receptionist as he listened to the conversation happening before him. “… Given that you brought her books in, and doesn’t owe any dues in the cafeteria and library, you may go ahead and sign below,” the receptionist ordered as she handed a pen to the older woman.

Wait, was she withdrawing from school? He quickly walked over, not caring if he made a show in the office. He opened the door leading to the receptionist as the woman’s eyes followed to where he entered. “Ah, Mr. Cullen,” she inquired as (Name) glanced up while her guardian kept her focus on signing. “What can I do for you?”

Edward said nothing as his eyes stayed glued on her. “Hello Edward,” (Name) spoke quietly as Emily finished.

Emily finally gazed over towards Edward, her eyes filled with determination as she nudged for her young sister-in-law to follow her out, finished with the task Sam and Jacob ordered of withdrawing her from Forks High.

Edward only picked up static from Emily’s mind and nothing from (Name). Images of Delilah appeared before him and soon quickly began to dissolve as (Name) and Emily exited out of the office and out the building. He could only watch as his feet stayed planted where he stood despite the receptionist calling out his name. Why was she leaving? He needed to know.

Did she phase into a wolf?—- no that’s not it; she didn’t give out the iconic scent.

Did Sam want her closer? It didn’t seem like an issue in the beginning of the school year.

Would he be able to see her again? Would they still talk? While his heart didn’t beat, it felt like it was breaking. Clearing his throat, he walked back to the cafeteria with his family and Bella, hoping to ease the uncomfortable feeling within him.

[~*_*~]

“Are you feeling okay? Are you sure you didn’t want to see your friends?” Emily asked worriedly as both of them got into her car, a black Toyota Avalon, as (Name) shook her head.

“I’ll invite them over before they leave, but it was for the best,” (Name) admitted as she fastened her seatbelt. “At least I’m done taking my AP exams; that’s all that mattered to me.”

“I’m sure Sam would want me to enroll you today at the school despite having three weeks left,” Emily commented as they began their drive back to the Rez.

(Name) gave her a small grin as she thought about being around the boys and Kim again (even if she and Kim haven’t spoken since Christmas). “Oh yeah, Jacob called me to have you over at Billy’s since Rachel will be coming over to visit,” Emily announced as (Name) looked at her with surprise from the news.

     “Seriously?!”

Emily chuckled as she gave her a brief nod. “Yep, she’ll be here for two weeks.”

Growing up around Jacob, Quil and Embry, (Name) always found solace by spending time with Jacob’s older twin sisters, Rachel and Rebecca. She had fond memories with them despite the age gap between them. After their mother died though, everything had changed. Rebecca ultimately moved to Hawaii and married a professional surfer she met out there and Rachel moved across the state to attend Washington State University— a way to leave such devastating memories despite the love they held for their brother and father.

Rachel visited once in a blue moon, but this had been the longest she had stayed away so to see her again was a big deal. “Hey do you think I could have Vanessa and Layla over to have dinner with us?” (Name) asked as she pulled her phone out that had been message-bombarded over the past few days.

“I’ll run it through Sam that way we don’t have another ‘Bella- Fiasco’,” Emily quipped as (Name) snorted at the subtle blow she commented. “Or if you’d like, I’ll see if you can spend the night over at Vanessa’s.”

    “I’d like that.”

The decision to move back to the Rez wasn’t from her brother or Jacob; no, it was a decision she made alone. Maybe she was being ridiculous and impulsive given there’s only a few weeks left, but what’s to say there’s more to this uncharted territory of beings? The fact she can remember Edward’s past or see him and Delilah through memories was what worried her. She was her own person- she didn’t want to evolve feelings for Edward simply because she’s shown memories of what was once done. Not to mention, she loves Jacob more than anything. Wait loves?!!

(Name) blushed at the idea of loving someone entirely. Hell, they haven’t even officially called themselves ‘boyfriend-girlfriend’ yet. “You’re thinking about Jake, aren’t you?” Emily grinned smugly as (Name) rolled her eyes. “How about we get him a little gift? For him and Rachel, of course.”

     “Sure.”

Crimson red eyes watched carefully as his newly awakened soldiers basked in sucking the life from their victims, too weak to cry for help. Riley created two more into vampires last night. Their army was beginning to grow. (Name)’s image flashed in his mind for a moment as he smiled at the thought of her. Maybe he could turn her into a vampire? That way, he could have her by his side.

He missed the way she looked at him with those fearful, beautiful eyes. The way her plump lips quivered when he touched her— it was a wonderful sight to see. He wants her— no, he needs her.

[~*_*~]

(Name) gently knocked on the Black’s door with three small gift bags in her other hand behind her back to hide her surprise from the two siblings and their father. It wasn’t a shocker that Jacob had been the first to open the door, his happy expression lighting up the cloudy, gloomy day. “Hey (Name),” Jacob greeted as he headed in to hug his imprintee.

“Oh my!” Another voice said surprisingly. “No way is that you! (Name)! You grew up and look so beautiful!”

Rachel nudged her brother’s arm away as she tightly embraced the young Uley. “I missed you!”

(Name) squeaked as she tried to breathe. Rachel let her go and ushered her in, shooing her brother away from (Name). “Hey she came to see me too,” Jacob rebutted as he walked beside (Name) as he glanced down towards her busy hand. “What do you have there?”

“I’ve come bearing gifts,” (Name) huffed playfully. “If you guys hadn’t swarmed me, I would’ve given them to you all.”

(Name) pulled up her arm and looked at the bags, each a different color consisting of red, silver, and light blue, and handed the red bag to Rachel and the silver bag to Jacob. “This one is for your dad,” (Name) acknowledged as she placed it on his Lazy-Boy chair.

“Dad is still at Sue’s but he’ll be home later,” Rachel replied as she moved the tissue paper to the side as her eyes lit up in glee. “(Name), you shouldn’t have!”

Inside, there was a small box with some of favorite candies along with body mist and lotion of her favorite scent and a small black box. Rachel pulled the box out and opened it and there was a silver bracelet with her initials on it. “This is so sweet, thank you,” Rachel cooed as she hugged her once more.

Jacob peeked into his bag to see what was in it as well; his favorite candies were in there as well along with something he had been wanting for a while— three mint first editions of Charizard, Blastoise, and Venazaur a black box along with it as well. “(Name), where did you get these? Do you know how hard these are to find?” he inquired as he opened the box. “Are you serious?”

A vintage Pikachu card along with a ceramic wooden ring with a stew band inside. As much as he loved the cards, the ring is what he is truly treasuring. Putting it on his right ring finger, which fit perfectly, Jacob then placed a small kiss on (Name)’s forehead. It was a silent promise as one day he knew he’d spend the rest of his life with her. “Emily helped me pick them out; we got your dad some Mariner’s merch given how they’re doing this season,” (Name) explained as the conversation between her and Rachel muffled into the background as Jacob kept looking at his ring.

“… Jake?” Rachel’s voice called out to him as he came out of his trance.

       “Wait what?”

“I said that you two must be really good friends now,” Rachel commented in a low tone just as (Name) headed to the kitchen and away from the siblings.

“Actually…” Jacob was trying to find the right words to say as Rachel kept her eyes on him. “Actually we’re seeing each other… romantically.”

“So y’all are dating?” Rachel clarified as Jacob nodded in agreement before she nudged him with her arm. “I called it! Rebecca owes me $50.”

“You guys bet on me and (Name)?” Jacob mused as Rachel just giggled as she grabbed a small pack of Sour Patch Kids from her bag.

“She thought you’d guys would just stay friends but I told her I saw you guys together in the future,” she exclaimed only for someone else to barge into the home.

(Name) briskly walked back to the living room to see what was going on just as Paul made his arrival known to the siblings. “Jake,” Paul called out. “Sam wants to see y—..” his eyes drifted over to Rachel.

It was like a slow motion film— Paul had the same look Jacob (Name) the day he imprinted. (Name) blinked owlishly as he heard a low growl coming from Jacob, her mind registering that this will not go well if she doesn’t do something. “Jake,” she said hurriedly as she gently tugged his hand, his gaze snapping towards her direction, melting the rising anger within him briefly. “This isn’t the place. Think of your sister, please.”

Rachel greeted Paul in a friendly manner, as Jacob could only watch and groan in annoyance as he shut his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose with his free hand. Paul Lahore imprinted. On Rachel Black, Jacob’s older sister, before Jacob and (Name)’s very own eyes.

    ‘Just fucking great.’

[~*_*~]

After the imprinting incident, (Name) spent most of her time with Jacob (Paul was completely enamored on spending time with Rachel, forgetting on why he came over) until Billy arrived back home along with Sam at his doorstep. “Paul, where have you been?” Sam questioned in an annoyed tone. “You were supposed to come get Jacob and head back to us and —- (Name) you’re here too?”

(Name) greeted Billy with a small wave as she stood behind Jacob as Sam groaned. “Paul is in the backyard talking to Rachel,” Jacob replied, anger slowly coming back. “He was in the middle of telling me when he imprinted—“

“What?!” Sam and Billy exclaimed in unison.

Billy rubbed the side of his head with his hand, in disbelief of what occurred. “(Name),” Sam called out in a soft tone, uncharacteristic of him as she stepped forward to him. “What is it?”

“Emily told me you wanted to spend the night at your friend’s house?”

“Uh yeah,” (Name) blinked owlishly. “As long as it’s okay with you, of course.”

“Go ahead and ask your friend if it’s alright.”

(Name) sent a quick text to Vanessa since she knew Layla was going to spend the night with Tristen and hoped her friend would be okay with it. Not even a minute later, Vanessa responded back with a, ‘yes! Please stay the night! Heard you left :(. Also, mom and dad are out of town until next week so I don’t want to be alone.’

    “She's okay with it.”

Sam nodded and called on Jacob as he ordered, “Take my sister home to get her bag and then do her off at her friend's house. Come back that way we can patrol tonight. Just be mindful of the Cullens.”

Jacob nodded as he and (Name) left Sam and Billy to discuss on their own on how to bring Rachel into the circle of their secret. Jacob opened the passenger door of his car for her, the leather seat cool to the touch. Jacob entered in from the driver side, exhaling the frustrated breath he had been holding since talking to Sam and Billy on what had transpired. “Do not be upset with Paul,” (Name) murmured softly as she reached for his hand, interlacing her fingers into his.

    “But Paul imprinted—“

“On Rachel,” (Name) completed. “I know, but you shouldn’t get upset because you did the same thing.”

    “That was different!”

“How so?” (Name) chuckled as Jacob started his car. “I don’t know how my brother reacted when he found out you imprinted on me, but all I know is give Paul a shot— just like Sam did with you. On the bright side, you’ll be able to see Rachel more often now.”

“I’m going to have to deal with Paul though,” whined Jacob as (Name) rolled her eyes as he began to drive.

“So?” (Name) challenged. “Maybe Rachel might calm him down, you never know.”

Ah yes, Paul was very well known for his temper, even before he transformed. Maybe imprinting on Rachel would be a good thing as she might possibly help him with calming the fierceness within. “I guess,” Jacob muttered. “So where does your friend live?”

“Ah, over on Bridger Street,” (Name) answered. “Vanessa’s house is the first house down.”

“I think I know which one it is,” Jacob replied. “Bella lives by that street; she lives over by the four-way stop.”

(Name) hummed quietly as Jacob turned on his radio. After twenty-one minutes, the made it to Vanessa’s though something was off. Jacob started to sniff around, nostrils flaring as he looked around. (Name) noticed her front door was slightly ajar as her hand moved towards the door handle. “Wait,” Jacob paused as he gently took hold of her arm. “There’s a vampire nearby.”

(Name)’s breath hitched as fear crept throughout her body. Vanessa. Shoving Jacob’s hand away, she quickly got out of the car, running as quickly as she could towards the front door. “Vanessa!” (Name) shouted despite the pleas from Jacob to wait.

She pushed the door open as she entered inside, picking up the baseball bat Vanessa’s father had beside the entranceway. She walked into the living room and tightened her hold on the bat, eyes filling with fury at the scene before her. There against the couch was Vanessa being held against her throat by the same blond man from a few weeks ago. “ Let. Her. Go,” (Name) warned as the blond man gave her a sickening grin, his red eyes looking malicious and crazed.

“My, my, my, well this is definitely unexpected,” he bursted as Vanessa coughed, gasping for air. “I never would’ve thought this one would’ve brought you to me.”

He let Vanessa go as he sashayed over to (Name) with vampiric speed. He placed a cold hand under (Name)’s chin, as he gently caressed her cheek with his other hand. (Name) attempted to move back from his grasp, but he only moved his hand that was caressing her and wrapped his arm around her waist, tightening his hold on her. She tensed up. “Here I was just trying to do a job but the hunger was really getting to me… I’m so glad you’re here. You’ve been on my mind since that day we met (Name).”

(Name)’s lips trembled slightly as her heartbeat quickened. She could see Vanessa closing her eyes, most likely fainted, something that eased her despite the dangerous situation she was in. “Your blood sings to me,” he cooed as his cold lips kissed her cheek. “It smells so sweet like nothing is beyond comparison. I’d rather taste you and have you by my side.”

(Name) cried out as the vampire lowered his face towards her neck and just as he was about to bite her, someone knocked into them causing the vampire to let her go. She tumbled down to the floor as the sound of shattering glass could be heard beside her. “Vanessa,” (Name) croaked as she crawled over to her as she began to wake up from fainting spell. “Vanessa—“ she checked her for any injuries just as Vanessa groaned in pain. “Are you alright?”

“I’ll manage,” Vanessa uttered as she glanced towards her friend. “What about you?”

(Name) didn’t reply as pulled herself up and staggered over to the broken back door as she saw Jacob—transformed in his wolf form, as he snarled at the blond vampire while the vampire bared his teeth. “Jacob,” (Name) cried only for her to fall down to the ground.

Riley was supposed to keep a low profile; shit. This wasn’t part of the plan, but there he was being reckless and on top of that, there was a large wolf ready to attack him. He was to retrieve something that contained Bella’s scent and he was sidetracked from hunger. He never would’ve thought that his would-be meal was associated with (Name). Despite not wanting to leave (Name), he decided to flee, but just far enough to where he could still see her.

Riley perched himself up on a tree that could hold his weight as he watched the wolf transform back into a human, albeit naked at that, and ran towards the fallen (Name). His nostrils flared in anger as he saw the boy pick her up and carry her inside. A branch snapped within his grasp from the ínstense grip he had on it as jealousy ran through him. How dare that boy touch (Name)? Such putrid creature shouldn’t touch her with ease like that. She was his!

The next time he runs into his darling (Name), he won’t hesitate to get a taste of her blood and ultimately change her. By then… maybe, just maybe, Victoria won’t have an issue with her. Maybe it’s possible to have two mates? Yes! That’s what he could do. Oh, he’ll get that boy later for getting his filthy hands on her — right now he had to leave in case there were others like that boy.

Jacob carried (Name) over to the empty couch and then quickly grabbed his clothes that he tossed to the side when he came in before he transformed. He quickly put them on and returned to (Name)’s side. He knew Sam and the others were on their way. “Babe,” Jacob murmured softly, pressing gentle kisses on her cheeks as the image of the monster touching her still burned in his mind. “Baby he’s gone; you’re safe.”

(Name)’s eyes fluttered open, not realizing she had lost consciousness, as her sight landed on Jacob above her. “Jake,” she exclaimed as she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him into an embrace. “Jake I’m sorry—“

“Don’t apologize,” he retorted back quickly as he held onto her as he pulled her close to him. “I’m just glad you’re alright.”

“Jake—“ (Name) hiccuped softly as Jacob pulled back to look at her.

“What is it?” he asked softly as he looked at her lovingly.

        “I love you.”

There was no hesitation; only certainty coming from (Name) and it made Jacob’s heart swell up. Anything could’ve happened tonight and (Name) couldn’t bare another second of not making her feelings known.

Jacob felt like he was soaring. This was all he could’ve asked for: he felt honored to hold her heart in such a manner especially since the feeling was mutual. He couldn’t bare another second without her. Seeing that leech touching her, and almost losing her… he couldn’t bare it any longer. He would kill for her.  “I love you too (Name),” he returned as he pressed a gentle, chaste kiss on her lips.

“Guys!” Quil’s familiar voice cried out as he sprinted over to them only for him to notice Vanessa trying to get up. “Whoa, hey take it easy there.”

Voices could be heard from the backyard, most likely the rest of the pack trying to see what they could find as Quil walked over and sat beside Vanessa while she tried to sit up. “Are you okay?” Quil asked as Vanessa, still in shock, silently nodded.

Her gaze followed into Quil’s sight as they both locked eyes into one another. (Name) and Jacob could only stare, not uttering a single word on what just transpired.

    Quil imprinted on Vanessa.

Author’s Note: Meyer did Quil and Jacob dirty. I refuse to have Quil imprint on a kid- that’s a nope for me so I’m having him imprint on Reader’s friend.

Chapter Text

Worried eyes casted onto Vanessa as (Name) brought the traumatized girl a cup of Chamomile tea with honey in it to her as a way to calm her down. Emily pulled out the box the deflated air mattress was stored in from the hallway closet along with the air pump as she took them to (Name)’s bedroom. “Nessa?” (Name) whimpered, afraid her voice might frighten her more. “Talk to me please?”

“What was that back there?” Vanessa trembled in fright as she took a hesitant sip from her tea.

Quil entered from the back door as he quickly ushered himself towards Vanessa. Jacob followed behind along with Sam. “We need to have a talk,” Sam announced with an authoritative tone. “Paul is on his way with Rachel and Billy. Vanessa, what we discuss here you cannot tell another person; not even your parents.”

Vanessa’s eyes flickered over to (Name) as her friend stayed quiet. She felt a comforting, gentle squeeze on her hand as Quil gave her a reassuring smile. What was going on? What did (Name) have to do with any of this?

It didn’t take long for the two people mentioned to arrive. Rachel was already in her pajamas when Paul had gone to retrieve her. Everyone walked in silence towards the backyard, a hidden space surrounded by trees and blocking any prying eyes. Jared, Embry, Leah and Seth as well as Billy and Sue were waiting outside as a small fire burned in the iron fire pit. Vanessa gently grabbed at (Name)’s arm, stopping both of them. “What’s happening?” Vanessa asked worriedly.

“It’s not my secret to say,” (Name) admitted as she gently took hold of her friend’s hand. “but just know you’re safe with us and we’ll make sure nothing happens to you.”

Vanessa’s lips quivered as she walked closely with her friend. Everyone sat around the fire, each in a chair—save for Billy as he was in his wheelchair with Sue taking a seat beside him, forming a circle. Vanessa noticed Jacob made his way over to (Name) and sat down beside her. She noticed she and Rachel were sitting beside her friends as the older Uley stood up. “I know this isn’t a meeting we want to have, but there are urgent matters to be discussed,” Sam started.

Vanessa felt her friend give her a reassuring squeeze, not realizing she had taken hold of her hand. “One of (Name)’s friends was attacked by a traveling vampire—“

Vampire? Vanessa thought, shocked that a topic would even be discussed like that.

“Except this isn’t the first time I’ve seen him around Sam,” (Name) interjected as everyone looked over to (Name). “He was the same vampire I saw back in Port Angeles.”

Vanessa could see this was an all-too-serious discussion— there were no snips or laughter like that to a good joke. Everyone, including (Name), were serious about this matter. “There’s no coincidence as to why he’s around,” deduced (Name) with certainty, “he’s after something.”

“So I was attacked because he’s after something?” Vanessa heard herself ask, her voice sounding foreign to her.

“Not something, but someone,” Jacob corrected as his jaw tightened.

“Vanessa, I’m sorry for what happened to you today,” Sam recounted but despite the apology, there was something else in his eyes; something Vanessa couldn’t decipher. “However, because of the severity of the situation, we need you to not call the police—”

“Wait, why not?” Vanessa questioned in confusion. “I was home—“

“The police would think you’re insane,” muttered Leah in annoyance, “and on top of that, you’d put all of us in danger. I still don’t understand why this outsider human is doing here—“

“Give it a rest Leah,” Quil snapped as (Name) quickly stood in front of her friend with her arm stretched out in a protective stance against Leah.

“She has every right to know what exists out there especially after an encounter such as this—“

“On top of that,” Jacob added as he still sat in his chair, “Rachel and Vanessa are both under our protection.”

“Honey,” Sue called out to Leah, “It’s alright. You know they’re right.”

Leah growled as Vanessa felt herself shrink behind her friend. “So… if vampires exist,” Vanessa swallowed down the nervous feeling rising from her chest. “Then what are you guys?”

“They protect this land from the Cold Ones,” Billy stated cryptically. “They are beings that represent strength and courage since before our time.”

“Shapeshifters,” (Name) answered softly as Vanessa’s eyes widened.

    “Are you—“

(Name) turned towards her best friend and bent down to be at eye level. “No… but the people that mean the world to me are.”

Vanessa’s eyes flickered over to Jacob, his eyes never meeting (Name) or her as he settled to look at Sam though she take notice the light red color flushing his russet colored cheeks.

“Well that’s enough excitement for one day,” Embry cleared his throat as he stood up from his chair, “I think it’s my turn to patrol tonight.”

“Patrol buddy!” Seth beamed as strides over to Embry.

Everyone began to get up from their chairs, some saying goodbye as they began to depart. “I’ll take you home,” Sue told Billy as she gestured for Leah to follow her. “We’ll wait for you in the car.”

“Billy I’m taking Rachel home,” Paul exclaimed despite Billy attempting to protest. “See you all later!”

“You’ll be staying here with us,” (Name) said to Vanessa— it wasn’t a request.

“Vanessa,” Billy called out to her as she walked over to the man. She felt her friend follow behind her along with Jacob and Quil. Sam walked over and stood beside the elder.

“I know it’s a lot of information to process tonight, but know you’ll be in safe hands. As for your home, the damage is fixable and we’ll get it fixed so your parents won’t notice anything.”

“They won’t be home anytime soon,” Vanessa heard herself state aloud.

“Don’t speak of this to outsiders,” Sam ordered as his intense gaze never left her. “Not to your parents, not to your friends or anyone else.”

“You get used to it,” (Name) muttered as her eyes locked with Vanessa’s. “A part of me wishes you didn’t know but… but the other part of me is happy I have a friend that I can talk about this heavy secret to.”

For the first time that night, Vanessa smiled.

[~*~]

True to their word, Sam, Paul, Jacob and Quil helped replace the damaged back sliding doors to Vanessa’s home. Everything was placed back into its pristine place. Despite everything looking normal, Vanessa nothing would ever be the same. She quickly learned how much (Name) had to hide in order to protect her brother and the others but also the people she loved like Vanessa and Layla. She respected her friend so much and saw her in a different light. “So the Cullens…” Vanessa started only for (Name) to shake her head ‘no’.

“The less you know, the better,” (Name) advised cautiously.

Vanessa promised herself she wouldn’t tell a soul of this secret. She would stay with the Uley’s for the rest of the week all while Quil visited her as he checked up on her periodically. She felt comfortable around the guy even though he was a year and a half younger than she was, but who’s counting? She liked the feeling she had around him. Emily Young took her to and from school despite (Name) now attending the school in La Push— a detail (Name) had been meaning to tell her. Vanessa had been dropped off that Friday morning by Emily, proceeded with a wave and a ‘see you later.’

It was weird not having (Name) around as things felt different with her and Layla given she was moving to New York and her to Texas in several months. “Have you talked to (Name)?” Layla murmured softly during lunch as took a seat with a couple of their other friends at the table near where the Cullens and Bella sat.

“I did yesterday,”  Vanessa answered truthfully (given the recent sleeping arrangements until her parents get back Sunday).

“She hasn’t replied to any text messages,” Layla mumbled bitterly as Vanessa’s gaze flickered over to Edward Cullen as she noticed something different now.

“She was doing better but that’s only because Emily had picked up the phone,” Vanessa excused as she finished eating, her mind thinking of her friend.

Her eyes flickered over to Edward Cullen as he stood up and excused himself from his table. He walked over to their table as his golden eyed stare stayed locked on Vanessa. “Good morning ladies,” Edward greeted with a gentle and polite tone. “Vanessa, may I have a moment to speak with you, alone?”

“Uh sure,” Layla answered for her as Vanessa sent her a glare.

Vanessa quietly stood up quietly as followed behind him. They made their way outside towards the sitting area. “Do you know if (Name) is doing alright?” Edward inquired as they stopped in an area where no one could hear their conversation.

“She’s fine,” Vanessa answered quickly though she could tell Edward was not convinced.

“Why was she withdrawn from Forks High?” Edward asked another question.

Vanessa blinked owlishly as she pondered. She knew (Name) had been aware of their secret for so long so wouldn’t have been because of that… So why was she withdrawn? “I’m not sure.”

“Can you ask her to please talk to me,” Edward requested—his eyes pleading.

“I’ll— I’ll see what I can do,” Vanessa stammered before darting back inside.

Why was she nervous? She’ll pass the message forward, but I’m the end, it was up to (Name) if she wanted to answer his messages. Still, she couldn’t help but wonder what kind of relationship (Name) had with Edward. “She’s someone I care about,” Edward added, almost as if he could read her mind.

    “Note taken.”

[~*~]

Calloused fingertips skimmed the soft skin underneath (Name)’s shirt. She was pressed against the wall of the empty classroom on the third floor as Jacob captured her cherry-flavored rosy lips. A sigh escaped (Name)’s lips as she wrapped her arms around Jacob’s neck while his knee wedged itself between her legs— propping her up.

This was scandalous; they could get caught especially if someone considered looking around. She pressed herself against his abnormally-warm body. She felt her cheeks flush as Jacob’s hand found its way onto her clothed breast, giving it a gentle squeeze. “J-Jake,” she whimpered softly as she began to rub herself against his thigh, the friction of his slacks giving her some relief.

Jacob hummed softly as he moved to run his lips against her neck, gently suckling against her sweet spot. “C-come on,” (Name) moaned softly— as much as she loved the idea of being alone with him, she knew they were on limited time before Emily was to pick her up.

Jacob dropped down to his knees and popped open several of the top buttons of (Name)’s uniform blouse as it revealed her light pink bra. He pushed down the cups to reveal her breasts to him, groaning softly before going after an erect pink nub, sucking as if his life depended on it while his other hand massaged her other breast, toying with her nipple in the process. “Jacob!” (Name) mewled in pleasure as she quickly slapped a hand over her mouth; afraid that someone might hear them and see their lewd position.

“If I have you like this from just sucking on your tits, then I can’t wait to play with that sweet pussy of yours,” Jacob smirked before moving his hand towards her thigh.

Right before his fingers could reach her clothed cunt, (Name)’s phone rang. Jacob grabbed it to see who it was as a frown graced his features as it displayed Sam’s name. “Cockblocker,” Jacob muttered as he stood up and handed his girl her phone.

(Name) attempted to calm her nerves as she accepted the call, clearing her throat and answered with a meek ‘hello.’

“Hey (Name), I tried to call your boyfriend several times now,” Sam explained as Jacob rolled his eyes and pulled his phone out of his pocket to see Sam had called five times. “Tell him that he’s patrolling with Embry and Quil tonight.”

“Yes sir,” (Name) replied softly though Jacob could hear just fine his orders.

“Emily will also be picking them up so that way they can eat with us and head out.”

“Okay,” and with that, she hung up on him. Jacob had an unreadable expression as he stood close to (Name).

“Jacob?” (Name) asked softly as she cupped his face. “Are you alright?

He gazed into her eyes before leaning down to capture her lips gently. This wasn’t like the kisses they were sharing moments before: no, this was gentle and sweet. Jacob pulled away as his hands began to adjust her uniform as (Name) moved her hands to her sides. “This is the first time the three of us patrol together on our own,” he murmured softly as he buttoned up her blouse. “I’m sure there’s going to be a lot said.”

         “I’m sorry, I forgot—“

“Why are you apologizing babe?” Jacob stepped back and held (Name)’s hand. “I know he’s my best friend and I know you two dated briefly, but we were all friends at one point. He wasn’t able to imprint on you because you were meant for me— it sounds cruel, I know, but I’m glad I was the one to imprint on you because I’ve always been in love with you.”

(Name) blinked owlishly at his confession and before she could ask, he answered her question as if he knew, “Bella was a crush, but she wasn’t there for me like you were when I lost my mom or when I needed someone to talk to. I focused on Bella when I realized Embry had a crush on you and you had seemed to reciprocate his feelings. I stepped back, but you were always in the back of my mind. The way you smile, the way your eyes twinkle when you’re happy— I’m glad it’s me in the end because I love you so much.”

“I love you too,” (Name) smiled as the red flush that adorned her cheeks intensified with color from his confession.

Looking more presentable, the cautiously made their way out of the classroom and headed to the back stairs that would reach the courtyard. Hand in hand, they made their way down. It didn’t take long to reach the student parking lot where the couple noticed Quil and Embry making their way towards Emily’s parked car waiting for them.

[~*~]

Edward: Going to Jacksonville. Hope you’re okay. Please talk to me. I’ll contact you when I return.

That’s all the message said from Edward as (Name) read it. She didn’t want to speak to him yet, not when she’s still trying to find out about the whole reincarnation debacle— though it’s been awhile since she stopped dreaming of him or seeing memories in a while. Vanessa was on the floor by the small cabinet where (Name) kept all her DVDs as she pulled out several suggestions for that evening’s ‘Movie Night.’ Emily was going to be joining them on watching movie marathons while Sam would be going out to patrol as well.

Originally, it was supposed to be Jacob, Quil and Embry; however, Jared had picked up the scent of a vampire on the outskirts of the forest so everyone will be out to patrol.

(Name) had changed into her Fork’s volleyball practice shirt along with her black Harry Potter pajama bottoms. Jacob’s phantom touches lingered on her skin as she kept replaying on what had occurred that day in her mind. A blush bloomed onto her cheeks as she quickly attempted to think of something else. “… pizza?”

“I’m sorry what?” (Name) was distracted.

“Girl are you okay?” Vanessa quirked a brow as she questioned her friend. “I asked if you felt like having pizza.”

“(Name)?” A familiar voice called out from the entrance of her room. “Is everything alright?”

“Jacob, she’s been acting weird,” Vanessa quipped as Jacob entered and rushed over to (Name) who had been in bed with her quilt over her. “She might be getting sick or something.”

(Name) shut her eyes closed as Jacob leaned close to her. “You okay babe—”

It dawned on him when he was near her proximity— her arousal wafted into his nostrils as a coy smile graced his features. “Can’t stop thinking about me huh?” He teased, low enough for only her to hear.

“Shut up,” (Name) replied as she tightened her hold on her quilt. “I’m tired is all,” her answer was loud enough for both to hear.

“Take a nap,” Vanessa advised as she stood up. “I’ll go get us pizza for movie night. Sorry Jake; Girl’s only!”

When Vanessa’s footsteps could no longer be heard, Jacob turned his attention towards his lovely girlfriend. “Do you want to spend the night over tomorrow?” Jacob coaxed quietly. “Dad is supposed to go over to Charlie’s and Rachel is out of town for a couple of days to visit Rebecca… we’d be alone~”

“Stoppp,” (Name) giggled lightly as Jacob pulled her into an embrace.

“I want to hear the pretty sounds you make again,” Jacob said huskily (Name) pinched his cheeks.

         “You’re so annoying!”

“You love it,” Jacob laughed as he pressed a kiss on her forehead as he pulled away. “I have to head out soon.”

“Be careful, will you?” (Name) faltered as she caressed his cheek.

          “Will do.”

[~*~]

“ RONALD WEASLEY !” the television boomed as the girls watched Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. “HOW DARE YOU STEAL THAT CAR! I AM  ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED! YOUR FATHER'S NOW FACING AN INQUIRY AT WORK AND IT'S ENTIRELY YOUR FAULT! IF YOU PUT ANOTHER TOE OUT OF LINE WE'LL BRING YOU STRAIGHT HOME!”

“I never get tired of this scene,” Vanessa commented as she grabbed a slice of pepperoni pizza where the box sat on (Name)’s dresser.

(Name)’s ears perked up when she heard the boys talking angrily. “They’re home early,” Vanessa muttered as Emily quickly stood up.

“No,” Emily interjected as she made her way toward the bedroom door. “Something is wrong.”

(Name) and Vanessa followed behind Emily as Sam and the boys were talking over themselves. “What’s going on?” (Name) asked as they all turned towards the girls.

“The Cullens happened,” Jared spoke venomously. “That red-headed leech showed up and we chasing after her—“

“She kept going between territories and the Cullens had been going after on their side,” Quil interjected as he grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge.

“She jumped on our side and one of the Cullens tried to follow, but Paul pushed him back before him into our territory,” Embry added, though his gaze never met (Name)’s eyes.

“Jacob, I didn’t see Edward Cullen with them,” Sam commented as (Name)’s eyes flickered over to her brother.

“He’s not here,” (Name) heard herself saying as Sam looked at her with confusion. “He texted me telling me he was going out of town.”

“You talk to the Cullens?” Sam growled as anger began to rise.

“I did,” (Name) admitted. “I had a class with Edward when I was attending Forks, but I stopped talking to them afterwards.” A half-lie but only because she knew her brother well.

“Actually,” Vanessa interrupted as (Name) looked at her with confusion. “Edward’s been asking about her. I’m guessing she’s been refusing to answer calls or messages and given she left, he’s been bothering me and Layla for any updates on her.”

          Oh.

“That son of bitch,” Jacob growled angrily.

“Enough Jacob,” ordered Sam as Jacob grew quiet but still seething that Edward was going after (Name)’s attention despite having a girlfriend of his own. “When he comes back, I need you to give him a warning because there won’t be a next time.”

          “Yes sir.”

[~*~]

Vanessa snored lightly as she lay on (Name)’s bed. Laying a soft blanket over her friend for warmth, (Name) gave her one final glance before leaving her bedroom. She stepped out of her home and headed towards the end of the driveway where Jacob was waiting. “Hey,” (Name) whispered as Jacob pulled her close to him. “Are you—“

“I’m not mad,” Jacob cut her off as (Name) gave him a quizzical look. “Just annoyed that Edward found an interest in you.”

“But I’m with you and I love you,” (Name) mused as Jacob gave her a coy smile.

“You’re stuck with me for the rest of our lives.”

“I can live with that,” (Name) hummed as she wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him down as she pressed a soft kiss on his lips.

Chapter Text

You light up my days, my personal sun

Showing me all the ways I could fall

Cloudy gray skies greeted (Name), Vanessa and Jacob Monday morning as they drove to Forks High School to drop Vanessa off and potentially bump into Edward Cullen. Edward and Jacob were like fire and ice- figuratively and literally, given what they were.

You made me feel new

I'm crashing, I'm crashing right into you

Baby, feel me crash

I'm crashing, I'm crashing right into you

Baby, feel me crash

“(Name) what song is that?” Vanessa questioned as she listened to the lyrics of the song.

“‘Crashing into You’ by Vance Joy,” (Name) replied as she tapped her hand onto the steering wheel of her brother’s truck.

Droplets of rain kissed the windshield only to be wiped away as the music played in the background. Jacob leaned against the window, tired from last night’s patrol. Vanessa applied the last bit of chapstick onto her lips as (Name) entered the student parking lot and parked into Vanessa’s parking spot. “See you guys later,” Vanessa chirped a quick goodbye as she left the vehicle.

“Jake,” (Name) sighed as he adjusted his black shirt, a cold, unreadable look on his face visible from the rearview mirror.

Jacob left without a word as he exited the backseat of the truck. At first, (Name) thought he had been angry with her but she then remembered the purpose of him coming with her to drop Vanessa off. A shiver crawled up her arms as she felt like she was being watched like how a hawk does a field mouse.

(Name)’s eyes flickered over to the familiar pale young man leaving his car with Bella Swan tailing behind. “Fuck,” (Name) cursed under her breath as she unfastened her seatbelt and stepped out of the vehicle, leaving the driver’s door slightly ajar.

Former peers glanced over to them, confusion yet also excitement of potential drama for the morning. Jacob continued to give off a cold glare as Edward Cullen and Bella swiftly made their way over to him. (Name) lightly jogged over to the group as her shoes splashed through small puddles on the ground. “Hey,” Bella greeted, though her eyes were trained towards Jacob’s looming figure.

“Charlie said you left town,” Jacob stated factually as (Name) stood behind him, unbothered by the light drizzle of rain on her.

“Yeah, to visit my mom,” Bella explained as her eyes flickered over to (Name) standing behind him. “Why?”

A sarcastic smile etched Edward’s face as he stepped closer to Bella. “He’s checking to see if you’re still human,” Edward mocked, aware of Jacob’s disdain for his kind.

Jacob glared at the teen vampire, eyes cold burning with hatred. “Look, I’m here to warn you,” Jacob professed venomously. “If your kind ever come on our land again—“

    “Wait what—“ Bella questioned.

“Jacob,” (Name) tugged gently at his shirt, pulling him back from looming over Edward and Bella.

Edward’s eyes connected with (Name)’s briefly, only angering Jacob more. “Huh, I guess you didn’t tell her?” Jacob quipped as moved to block (Name) from Edward to see.

“Leave it alone Jacob,” retorted Edward as Bella eyed both Jacob and Edward with suspicion.

    “Tell me what?”

“Emmett and Paul had a misunderstanding,” Edward explained, his golden eyes gleaming. “It’s nothing to worry about.”

“Listen to you,” Jacob sneered. “Did you lie to get her out of town, too? Or that you also try to text (Name)?”

“You should just leave,” Edward growled— the order in a calm voice as he stood in front of Jacob.

“Jacob, let’s go,” (Name) urged, her heart quickening from Edward being in close proximity to her. “Now.”

“She has a right to know,” Jacob retorted, though it looked like something silently said between them as Edward’s eyes gazed at (Name). “Bella is the one the redhead wants.”

“Victoria?” Bella huffed as Edward rolled his eyes, too tired to keep the charade up any longer.

Bella turned to Edward, as she glowered in disbelief. “Alice’s vision.”

“I was trying to protect you—“

“By lying to me,” Bella interjected as she looked away from him. “Okay, we’re going to talk about this, but…” her gaze flickered over to Jacob. “You...”

(Name) let go of Jacob’s shirt, a feeling beginning to spread around her body. Despite not talking to Edward in weeks, she missed him. She missed their playful banter and his kind words, though she knew she couldn’t— not with the nagging feeling etched in her mind that if she allowed herself to do so, something would awaken. With the looming discovery of being his reincarnated past lover, that was something she didn’t want to indulge in especially with what she felt for Jacob.

Deep in thought, (Name) failed to realize what was being discussed from Bella though Edward noticed a difference. Given his gift, he could hear everyone, even Jacob’s stupid thought line. The only two he hasn’t heard from were from Bella and (Name). It was like something he has never heard before. Like a hole beginning to open up, he could hear (Name)’s inner voice— her thoughts, her dreams, her feelings and her memories. It was serene and lovely, and as much as Edward wanted to hear and explore it all, it was brief. Snapping, out of her thoughts when Jacob began to usher her back from them, the hole in (Name)’s mind closed. “Let’s go,” Jacob murmured softly to (Name) as an uncomfortable feeling pierced Edward.

Bella began to follow the pair as Edward stopped her, calling out her name. Bella turned around as she looked at him with a gentle look, “Edward you have to trust me,”

“I do trust you,” Edward retorted as his golden irises flickered over to see the loving look Jacob was giving (Name) as she spoke to a former classmate that had spotted her. “It’s him I don’t trust.”

Bella ignored his comment and made her way over to Jacob and (Name). Edward watched as Bella asked Jacob if she could ride with him only for him to shake his head immediately and pointed to (Name). “We have to head to school,” (Name) remarked, albeit coldly, to Bella as she headed back to the truck.

“I’ll see you after school then. There’s so much that needs to be discussed,” Bella stated to Jacob before he walked off to the truck.

Just like that, (Name) and Jacob were gone from the parking lot. Bella had gone inside the school building with the others. Edward pinched the bridge of his nose with annoyance as he began to walk towards the school entrance doors. Today is definitely going to be a good day.

[~*~]

The clunking of metal tools filled the garage as Jacob worked on a dirt bike. The crunching of gravel alerted him someone was near, “Bella,” Jacob called as she stepped inside the garage. “So I guess you were really set about coming here after all.”

“I saw Emily and the pack,” Bella gestured with her thumb, pointing behind her. “So when did Leah join the pack?”

It was nostalgic for Bella to be there in the garage with Jacob again except without the feeling of sadness of missing Edward. “Around when her dad died,” Jacob explained as he grabbed a blue rag to clean the wrench he had been using. “Her brother, Seth, also phased. He’s only fifteen— one of the youngest we’ve had. Sam keeps him studying, but he’s chomping at the bit. I wish it was Leah that stayed home.”

“Come on, don’t be such a guy,” Bella sassed as she grabbed a small stool and dragged it over to be near where Jacob was working.

“No, it’s not a chick thing,” Jacob countered as he dropped his wrench into his toolbox that was on the ground and then picked up another tool to clean. “It’s, you know, a triangle thing. We all…” he put down the tool onto the work table beside him. “… have to live with the Leah/Sam/Emily pain-fest. Wolf telepathy, remember?” Plus I have to deal with my own triangle of sorts as well, Jacob said in his mind.

“So Sam dumps Leah for Emily?” Bella commented as Jacob shook his head.

“Yeah, it wasn’t like that,” Jacob disregarded her comment. “Sam hates himself for hurting Leah, but Emily was the One .

“I guess it sort of chases you sometimes,” Bella remarked as Jacob sighed as tried to find a way to word what he was trying to say next.

“It’s more than some crush, Bella,” Jacob expressed as a vision of (Name) entered his mind. “Sam imprinted on Emily.”

“Do I want to know what that is?” Bella asked as she grabbed a nearby stick, weaving it around her fingers as she toyed with it.

a comforting silence wrapped around them as Jacob’s brown eyes connected with Bella. “Imprinting on someone is like…” Jacob’s mind began to re-play when he had imprinted on (Name). “…when you see her, everything changes.”

(Name) staring at him when he first phased with relief.

All of a sudden, it’s not gravity holding you to the planet,” Jacob continued as he put down the blue rag on the table.

The first kiss (Name) and Jacob shared.

“It’s her,” Jacob gently smiled as Bella looked at him, intrigued. “Nothing else matters. You would do anything… be anything for her.”

Jacob having (Name) in a loving embrace after she got scared by a vampire.

Bella looked down to her feet as she let go of the stick she had been holding. “Sounds like you know the feeling,” Bella murmured softly. “Have you…imprinted on someone?”

“Jake?” A voice called out, breaking the spell of silence.

Bella could see Jacob quickly turn his head over towards the garage entrance, a large grin gracing his features. “Hey,” he said warmly as (Name), in navy blue leggings and a black spaghetti-strap shirt along with white sneakers, came to sight.

The way his eyes twinkled in happiness made Bella envious especially as jealousy began to gnaw at her. “I—oh, hello Bella,” (Name) greeted, though it was forced as she glanced towards Jacob. “Sorry I didn’t catch you earlier. Rachel and I just got back from the store. I can come back—”

“Stay,” Jacob ordered gently as he made his way over (Name), getting behind her as the feeling in Bella began to bubble twice as much now.

Jacob wrapped his beefy arms around (Name)’s waist as leaned down and tucked his chin on the side of neck as his chin rested on her shoulder. He didn’t have to say anything else— the acknowledgment showed he had and for some reason, it hurt Bella to see him so… happy.

[~*~]

“Do you think Paul would like this?” Rachel asked hesitantly as (Name) grinned cheekily at the Tasmanian Devil plushie she had bought him as the sat in the living room.

    “Looks just like him~”

[~*~]

The feeling was clawing at Bella— seeing Jacob showing affection to someone else. It had been awhile since she had last seen him, but she never would’ve thought she’d miss him so much. She entered her home as she as her eyes met with her father’s familiar gaze. “

You know, Edward could at least respect meal times,” Charlie muttered in annoyance.

“Oh, I was with Jake,” Bella clarified as she leaned against the door.

“Oh,” Charlie raised an eyebrow in surprise. “Good”

His mood quickly deflated when a knock alerted them as it was most likely the devil himself waiting on the other side. “I’ll just give you two some privacy then,” he sighed as he walked away just as Bella turned around and opened the door.

“Hey,” Edward said quickly as entered. “ Do you have any idea how worried I’ve been?”

    “I was perfectly safe—”

“I almost broke the treaty to make sure,” he said in a hushed tone, though his nostrils began to flare as Edward began to inhale an unfamiliar scent.

“I know I smell like a dog. I’m sorry,” Bella apologized but Edward shook his head.

    “No, something’s wrong.”

Edward rushed upstairs as he made his way into Bella’s room. He gently touched the dreamcatcher above Bella’s headboard, almost as he could the phantom touch that was left behind by another. He turned his head towards Bella’s direction, “Someone’s been in here.”

[~*~]

“(Name),” a voice called to her as her eyes fluttered open.

Was she still asleep? She rubbed her eyes as a yawn escaped her. Where was she? Birds chirped softly as the sound of trickling water from a fountain could be heard. “Who’s there?” (Name) called out as she walked down the plushy, green grass.

Everything was bright as if everything had been kissed by Apollo himself. “There you are,” a sweet voice commented as (Name) turned towards the direction it came from. “I’m sorry to come to you like this.”

Standing several feet from her, was the woman of her visions, her past self— Deliliah Mathers. “It’s you,” (Name) heard herself say. “You’re Edward’s love.”

She hummed in agreement as she walked towards her, her simple long baby blue dress flowing in the wind like flower petals. “It would appear so. I’ve been watching him— through you, of course,” Deliliah explained as (Name) brought her hands to her hips.

“So why are you talking to me?” (Name) asked as Deliliah stood in front of her. “Are you trying to, I don’t know, take over my body and go after Edward?”

“No sweet child,” Delilah smiled warmly. “Think of me as your guide should you ever need me. I’ve lived my life already. I left the physical world with love in my heart and I accept it. I do miss my Edward dearly though. Despite this, please live your life the way you wish to live it. Do not base your feelings on the love that once was.”

“I see,” (Name) glanced down to her feet before making eye contact again with the woman.

“Before you wake, I want you to know you will be at a crossroads— do what your heart thinks is best and be careful.”

    “Wait!—”

[~*~]

(Name) jolted up from her sleep as droplets of sweat cascaded down her forehead. It was at least four in the morning. “Babe?” Jacob groggily yawned as sat up from his air mattress. “You alright?”

Jacob hopped off the air mattress and plopped himself into her bed as he pulled (Name) close to him, encasing his arms around her. “I’m… I’m fine,” (Name) mumbled as her eyes fluttered shut. “Just hold me, will you?”

“Of course,” Jacob hummed as he pressed a kiss on her forehead. “Let’s go back to sleep.”

On (Name)’s bedside table, Jacob’s phone lay with 3 missed calls from Bella Swan.

Chapter Text

The air felt thick like honey glaze as (Name) watched from Jacob’s car as Jacob walked out from the Swan’s residence in a gray shirt and dark shorts, as he muttered something to himself as Bella and Edward waited in the front yard. There was a grimace on his features that unnerved (Name). ”Whoever it was left their stink behind,” Jacob explained bitterly as he sniffled. “Though I recognize that scent.”

It was around ten in the morning when Jacob and (Name) arrived. An unfamiliar vampire left a stench in the home when Bella had been out yesterday, though it seemed like Jacob was familiar with the sickly sweet aroma. For sure, it was a miracle Charlie Swan had not been attacked during that time. His honey-brown eyes flickered over towards her as (Name) gave him a tight-lipped smile. “What do you mean you recognize?…” Edward paused as his attention drifted to (Name) who was standing several feet away from him as Jacob walked past them and wrapped an arm over her shoulders.

Jacob must’ve thought about the recent encounters with an unknown vampire seeking (Name) as she could feel the gaze coming from Edward intensify despite Jacob being a large barrier between them. “We’re going to be doing some patrolling over here as well,” Jacob stated, Edward’s fist clenched tightly as Jacob then muttered quietly, “…and also keeping an eye on Bella when she’s not around the Cullens….”

(Name) raised an eyebrow, not understanding what he was trying to say, “…She’s going to be spending time with us for a while,” Jacob clarified, followed by him clearing his throat and saying out loud for Edward to hear, “Got it bloodsucker?”

(Name) peered over from Jacob’s side to glance over at Bella and Edward as Edward’s golden irises met with gentle brown. Edward’s eyes seemed to have darkened and silently nodded as Jacob pulled (Name) close to him as Jacob led her to the passenger side. Jacob glanced at Edward once more before he got into his car as (Name) and he then drove off back to the Rez.

[~*~]

There's a she-wolf in the closet
Open up and set her free (ahoo)
There's a she-wolf in the closet
Let it out so it can breathe ~

(Name) bopped her head to the beat of Shakira’s song as Vanessa kept scribbling off the line she just wrote on the lined paper from her notebook. They sat beside each other on (Name)’s bed as a rerun episode of Sabrina played on the television. Vanessa was busy working on her speech for graduation which was only 2 weeks away. The ranking for the Top 10 at school was announced that day and Vanessa made Valedictorian with Jessica placing second and being Salutatorian. Burgers and s’mores were in order for her friend as congratulations so Jacob and the others were at the grocery store. Emily passed by with a laundry basket in her arms. She then stepped back as she peered over the two girls. “Vanessa, did you ask your parents about spending the night?” Emily asked as Vanessa stopped writing, placing her pencil down and giving her attention to her.

“Yeah, I did,” Vanessa chirped as she stood up. “Why am I staying over again?”

“Council meeting,” Emily and (Name) said in unison.

“Quil’s grandfather, Billy and Sue Clearwater will be over especially since most of you will need to hear the expectations of knowing this secret and the legends.”

“Don’t be nervous about meeting your in-laws tonight,” (Name) smirked as Vanessa shoved her onto the bed, “OWW!”

“Well, both of you get ready,” Emily chuckled as made her way down the hall.

“I feel nervous,” Vanessa admitted quietly, leaning back against the bed as (Name) sat up. “This is a whole new world.”

“I know,” (Name) agreed as she walked over and held her friend’s hand with reassurance. “But it gets better, and we aren’t doing this alone. Honestly, I’m glad I have a friend that will be able to relate all of this with me. There aren’t secrets between us, though it sucks we can’t tell Layla any of this.”

“Next week is her last week you know,” Vanessa exclaimed as (Name)’s hold on her hand tightened. “Maybe let’s hang out one more time before she moves.”

   “Yeah.”

[~*~]

The sky was inky black as specks of light dotted the clear night. The full moon shined above as crickets chirped around them. Light music played from the small boombox Paul brought as Seth and Jared ran around, chasing each other. (Name) and Vanessa was eating their burgers as Quil and Embry snacked on their third serving of s’mores. Leah sat beside her mother as Emily and Sam sat on the opposite side on the log benches. Jacob was nowhere in sight as (Name) looked around to catch any sight of him. Paul leaned back against one of the logs as he lay there with a cooked hamburger patty in his hand leisurely eating it. “We have company,” Leah announced quietly as everyone’s gaze flickered over towards the direction of Billy’s house as Jacob and Bella Swan walked over towards the large group.

“What’s Bella Swan doing here?” Vanessa whispered to (Name) as Quil took a seat to her left.

“Protection order,” (Name) muttered bitterly as she grabbed her water. “Bella can’t be alone since she’s a walking target—”

“(Name),” Sam hissed cautiously. “Don’t cause any trouble.”

“I’m not,” she retorted back, rolling her eyes as they then narrowed at the closeness between Bella and Jacob as they drew closer. “Just catching Vanessa up on the latest drama.”

“Teenagers,” Billy sighed as he sent (Name) a reassuring look.

Seth sprinted over to the pair, apparently noticing the glare (Name) was sending as he attempted to get between them. Quil shook his head as a playful smile etched his face as the others chuckled. Despite his young age, Seth sure was a smart kid. Billy whistled as everyone became attentive as the meeting would start shortly. Jacob made his way towards the empty spot beside his girlfriend and quickly wrapped an arm over her shoulder, his warmth greeting her and diminishing the ugly envious feeling within her. “Hey sweet pea,” Jacob murmured sweetly into (Name)’s ear as her face grew flushed red at the new pet name.

Seth sat beside Jacob leaving Bella to take the spot next to Seth as Billy Black watched his son with curious eyes as Jacob eyed (Name) with tenderness. He noticed (Name) laying her head against Jacob's shoulder as he was about to tell a tale of how their tribe began to shape-shift. Everyone listened gleefully, especially Seth as this was the first time he'd heard the stories along with Leah, Vanessa, Bella, and Quil.

Jacob sighed contently as (Name) snuggled closer to him. He moved his arm from her shoulder and wrapped it around her waist, pulling her close to him. "Personal heater at your service," he remarked as (Name) let out a soft giggle, unaware that Bella was watching them.

"Perks of being a wolf," (Name) added as she interlocked her fingers with his other hand.

“You guys are so corny,” Vanessa whispered as she rolled her eyes playfully, leaning closer to Quil.

Jacob held his breath slightly as glanced down to look at (Name). He could see her cheeks tinted pink at the affection he was showering her with. "You're cute when you blush," Jacob whispered sincerely, causing (Name)'s cheeks to turn redder.

"Shut up, I'm listening to your dad," (Name) hissed as she averted her eyes toward the flames within the fire pit.

"The Quileutes have been a small tribe from the beginning," Billy began the retells of the legends as (Name) began to picture the story in her mind.

"...But we've always had magic in our blood. We were great spirit warriors... Shapeshifters transform into the powerful wolf. This enabled us to scare off our enemies and protect our tribe. One day our warriors came across a creature..."

Jacob felt (Name) stiffen as Billy told the tale of the third wife, aware she was likely thinking of the bloodsucker she’s been encountering. He tightened his grip around her, making sure she felt secure. One thing for sure is he wasn’t going to let some vampire that also seemed to be trying to target Bella lay a hand on his beloved.

“It looked like a man, but it was hard like stone and cold as ice,” Billy continued. Our warriors' sharp teeth finally tore it apart... But only fire would destroy it. They lived in fear that the Cold Man was not alone. And they were right. She, his mate, took her vengeance out on the village. Our elder chief, Taha Aki, was the only spirit warrior left to save the tribe after his son was killed. Taha Aki's Third Wife could see that he would lose..."

Billy looked over towards the direction where Bella sat as she listened. "The Third Wife was no magical being; no special powers, but one... Courage. The Third Wife's sacrifice distracted the Cold Woman, long enough for Taha Aki to destroy her... She saved the tribe. Over time, our enemies have disappeared. But one remains... The Cold Ones. Our magic awakens when they are near. And we sense it now, we feel the threat in our blood. Something terrible is coming. And we must all be ready."

   "All of us."

[~*~]

“I’m stuffed,” Embry groaned as he plopped himself onto the soft grass after the council meeting was over. “I might just sleep right here.”

(Name) giggled softly as she towered over him. “Dude, ants are going to bite you from there.”

“They can try,” Embry grunted as he plopped himself into a sitting position, “how are you doing?”

It had been a while since (Name) and Embry spoke to each other in a friendly manner like that. It was as if they were kids again without a care in the world. “I’ve been alright, enjoying summer break, thank you,” (Name) replied as she extended her hand out to help him up.

“I can’t believe you’re going to be back in school with us,” Embry smirked as he grabbed her hand and pulled himself up. “Nice that you’ll be back though.”

“What about you? How have you been?” (Name) questioned as they began to walk side by side towards the front yard of Billy’s home.

“I’ve been managing,” Embry responded before clearing his throat as he looked down into her chocolate-brown eyes.

Seeing Embry was different this time as (Name) looked up at him. Since his transformation, he was no longer the lanky boy she grew up with. His muscles were defined despite wearing the baseball shirt he was currently wearing. He had grown a foot more than she was used to seeing. “I’m sorry,” Embry apologized as (Name) blinked owlishly. “I’m sorry I wasn’t able to tell you about all of this—”

She placed a gentle hand on his shoulder, her eyes twinkling as she gave him a gentle smile. “Don’t be; I understand now how much you had to carry. Goodnight Em,” (Name) walked away from him as he stared down at the ground.

Embry noticed the small droplet of water that ran down his cheek as it fell onto his cheek. He let out a bittersweet smile as he sighed in relief and held his head up, making his way towards home.

[~*~]

Bella stood outside the front door of Jacob’s home as she waited for her chaperone only to quickly feel a small amount of annoyance when she saw Jacob interlacing his hand with (Name)’s. She could see him whispering something to the young girl as her eyes then flickered over to Bella. Bella felt tense up as she noticed (Name) nodding before Jacob pulled (Name) over towards her. “Let’s get you home Bella,” Jacob urged as he grinned cheekily at her.

Jacob opened the passenger door as well as the back door as (Name) quickly made her way towards the passenger seat while Bella hesitantly got into the back seat. “Is Sam okay with letting you leave this late?” Bella heard herself asking as Jacob got into the driver’s seat.

“He doesn’t mind,” (Name) retorted quickly. “Sam’s my brother, not my father.”

“Bella, I’m stopping at McDonald's on our way to drop you off,” Jacob declared as he made his way out of the driveway. “Do you want anything?”

“No thanks, I’m fine,” Bella decided as Jacob shrugged.

“Do you want the Cookies and Cream McFlurry (Name)?” Bella heard Jacob ask as the girl then responded with, ‘you know me so well.’

Their interactions made Bella queasy; she felt annoyed and just wanted to spend time with Jacob alone— not with his… girlfriend as well. Just the word itself left a sour taste on the tip of her tongue. She hated it; she loathed the idea of Jacob giving all his attention to someone else. Wait, was she….? Was she, Bella Swan, in love with Jacob? She pondered to herself as she sat quietly in the backseat. She didn’t even realize they had made it to her home until Jacob announced her humble abode. “Thanks for the ride,” Bella muttered quietly as she stepped out of the vehicle.

She didn’t bother listening to Jacob’s response as stepped inside her home. Bella ran a hand through her hair as she leaned back against the front door, her mind thinking of Jacob as her other hand clutched at her chest. Bella was in love with Jacob.

[~*~]

And when the days feel like the same old circle
We'll bend the lines and make a new one
Just to find the place where time is free

So, baby, come with me
As far as eyes can see
So, baby, come with me
And what is will be

The radio played at a low volume as Jacob and (Name) ate their take out.  “I’ll give you a McChicken if you let me have some of your McFlurry,” Jacob attempted to negotiate with his beautiful girlfriend as they sat in Jacob’s car in front of (Name)’s home.

“Just shut up,” (Name) giggled as she fed him a spoonful of her icy treat as he moaned in delight. “Fat ass.”

“Mmm, you love this fat ass though,” Jacob gulped quietly as he pressed a gentle kiss onto her forehead. “I can’t get enough of you.”

“I love you Jacob,” (Name) eyes were half-lidded as a blush erupted onto her cheeks. “You’re amazing, sweet, protective—-”

“You make me happy,” Jacob breathed as he leaned his head against her shoulder. “I love you (Name). I love how I feel when I’m with you.”

There was a comforting silence between them. No other words needed to be said as (Name) her head against Jacob’s. At that moment, everything felt peaceful and that’s all that mattered to them as they cherished that moment in their little bubble.

[~*~]

Petrified red eyes scanned everywhere as a young girl made herself small against a small crevice as she watched as chaos erupted before her. Riley crouched down in front of the girl as she breathed rapidly. “What did you do to me?” she panted as another feeling began to overcome her body. “I’m so—”

“Yeah, I know,” Riley replied in agreement, not needing to hear what she was feeling; after all, he was accustomed to that feeling now. “We’ll find you someone to drink.”

The girl’s eyes widened in horror as Riley smirked, “Just try to not get yourself killed.”

Also if anyone picked up on the lyrics of She-Wolf, just know I’m team Shakira haha. I also used the lyrics from ‘Come With Me’ from Surfaces and Salem Ilese.

Chapter 6: Friends

Summary:

Vanessa, (Name) and Layla go through a rough patch in their friendship as graduation looms over them along with danger drawing nearer to Forks.

Notes:

It's been a while! I hope everyone is doing well. This past month I've changed careers and gone through many changes, mostly positive, and I'm thrilled to be writing again. Without further adieu, here's the next chapter. Let me know what you think! :)

Chapter Text

“… So as we go out into the real world, make mistakes and enjoy what adulthood brings us,” Vanessa read from her desk chair as Layla and (Name) watched her in awe. “Well, what do you guys think?”

Before (Name) or Layla could comment, Vanessa sighed and crumbled up her paper into a ball, and threw it into the wastebasket across her room. “You’re right, it’s not good enough,” Vanessa sighed as (Name) stood up and placed a hand on her shoulder as Layla watched with curious eyes.

“Hey,” (Name) murmured softly as Vanessa looked at her with weary eyes. “I think your speech was great and I’m pretty sure everyone else will too. Stop doubting yourself.”

(Name) headed towards the wastebasket and pulled out the wad of paper from it. She opened it up and moved a hand over the creased spots. “Type it up, fix any of the misspellings or add extra in there, but just know that this is great,” (Name) advised as a gentle knock alerted the three young girls.

“Mija— oh hello girls,” Mrs. Ruiz greeted as she opened the door. “Vanessa, there’s a boy here asking to see you.”

“Oh,” Vanessa blushed as her eyes flickered over to (Name) as the girl grinned smugly. “That’s Quil; bring him in please.”

“Who’s Quil?” Layla asked as Vanessa adjusted her shirt and dusted off any particles off of her jeans as Quil appeared by the threshold.

“One of my childhood friends from the Rez,” (Name) explained as Quil rolled his eyes. “Hey, you.”

“What’s up little squirt?” Quil joked as he walked over and ruffled (Name)’s hair as she attempted to swat his large hand away before making his way over to the young woman he intended to spend time with. “Hey, Vanessa.”

Quil leaned down to where Vanessa had been sitting and gave her a hug. “Quil, this is our friend, Layla,” Vanessa introduced as he gave a friendly wave.

“How did y’all meet?” Layla asked, feeling envious of the hunk Vanessa had wrapped around her finger.

“It was around the time my parents went out of town. I asked (Name) if I could stay over that night and met Quil at her place,” Vanessa ‘explained’ as Quil and (Name) gave each other an unreadable expression Layla couldn’t decipher.

“Damn (Name), maybe I should spend the night over at your place sometime,” Layla expressed as (Name) rolled her eyes playfully.

“Girl good luck with that; Sam is strict,” (Name) chuckled though Layla didn’t seem to find it funny.

“So hold on,” Layla over-analyzed as she stood up from her spot on the floor. “How come Vanessa was allowed to stay over but if I were to ask, it’s a problem.”

“Woah Layla chill,” (Name) raised her hands in defense. “Crazy circumstances happened that night so Sam allowed it. So how about you quit twisting words around, yeah?”

“It’s not often that a bear breaks into a home, much less mine. Scared the daylights out of me that night,” Vanessa added as Quil watched Layla with cautious eyes as his hold on his imprintee tightened.

“So that’s it right?” Layla scoffed as she looked at (Name) and Vanessa. “You know what? I’m out.”

Grabbing her bag from the bed, Layla stormed out of the room as (Name) and Vanessa looked at each other in confusion. “What just happened?” (Name) asked, still in disbelief.

“She seemed jealous,” Quil commented as he pulled away from Vanessa and sat beside (Name). “Looked like she was trying to pick a fight.”

“Why?” (Name) scoffed. “She has a popular boyfriend and a good family life anyways. What the fuck?”

“Understanding women isn’t my strongest suit (Name),” Quil muttered back as (Name) pushed his shoulder.

“Layla has always been the type of girl who got everything growing up,” Vanessa pondered as she swiveled around in her chair. “Even before you came to school in Forks (Name). She’s also ‘boy’ crazy.”

“Well, she needs to stop thinking with her coochie and start acting like a friend,” snapped (Name) as she stood up. “Sorry, I— I’m just annoyed with how she came at me and you. She didn’t need to act like that.”

“Let’s give her space,” Vanessa suggested. “I mean, She’s probably already overwhelmed that she’s moving and maybe she’s just upset that you and I are spending more time now.”

“Fine,” (Name) agreed. “But if she pulls this again, I’m going to let her know what’s up.”

With that, (Name) left Vanessa and Quil alone though Vanessa quickly hollered from her room, “Wait (Name)! I’m your ride dummy!”

[~*~]

Nightfall arrived as (Name) washed her face in the guest bathroom of the Ruiz’s residence. After several attempts of begging Sam to let her spend the night at Vanessa’s the night before graduation, her older brother relented and gave in to her requests with the condition that she immediately call him should anything happen out of the ordinary. Jacob wasn’t too keen on (Name) away from him, but he trusted Sam and whoever was patrolling nearby Bella’s home to keep watch on Vanessa and his beloved from harm.

(Name) wore a dark brown tank top and yellow Spongebob Squarepants pajama bottom shorts as she let her damp hair out from the confines of her fluffy towel that was once above her head. She could hear Vanessa chatting over the phone, most likely Quil since he was off from patrolling that night, as she made her way to close the guest bedroom door. Just as she was about to lie down, her phone began to ring.

Edward Cullen

Part of her was opposed to answering, but the other part of her mind couldn’t let the call go to voicemail as she clicked on the green button. She put the phone against her ear, her heart beating rapidly when she heard his voice. “Hey,” he uttered quietly as (Name) blinked owlishly, unsure of what to say.

“Hay is for horses,” (Name) stupidly remarked as the silence grew on the other end before Edward laughed abruptly. “How are you?”

“I’m well now that you’re answering my phone calls,” Edward chuckled as (Name) hummed softly. “Are you able to talk right now?”

“What? In person?” (Name) asked softly as she looked over towards the window. “I’m on your side of the treaty line if you’d like to in person.”

“Where are you?” Edward asked softly as (Name) made her way quietly out of the room.

“I’m at my friend Vanessa’s house,” (Name) replied back quietly. “Not far from your girlfriend’s house.”

Silence followed after that comment. “…Come outside,” Edward retorted as (Name) rolled her eyes as a smile tugged at the corner of her mouth.

“I’m already out here,” (Name) giggled as she hung up the phone and made her way over to Edward who was standing several feet from the Ruiz home.

It was foreign seeing Edward again, especially after how she left Forks High School. Despite being a vampire or her previous life’s lover, (Name) ran up and pulled him into an embrace. Coldness surrounded her as he returned the gesture as memories of Delilah filled his mind. If he could cry, he would as this was the closest he has ever been to feeling her again. (Name) pulled back away from him and cleared her throat. She tucked a strand of hair that had been in front of her face behind her ear as she glanced with doe eyes at Edward.

“Hey,” Edward said warmly, his golden irises peering into (Name)’s soul.

“What did I tell you about ‘hay’?” (Name) mused softly as they stood in the middle of the sidewalk without a care in the world. “I’m sorry I’ve been… a cold shoulder. I’ve been distracted lately.”

“Distracted enough to make you want to leave Forks High?” Edward quipped, though with no venom in his statement. “I’ve been worried about you. I couldn’t bare the thought of you being so far away—”

“I’m under my brother’s watch as well as Jacob’s—”

(Name) was interrupted by Edward as he asked her, “What is Jacob to you?”

“Well… Jacob’s my boyfriend,” (Name) stated confidently, stepping back as she put her hands on her hips.

“(Name) you know wolves lose their tempers,” Edward retorted as he brushed a hand through his hair. “He’s not good for you.”

“Edward, did you forget my heritage here?” (Name) chided in annoyance. “Sam is a wolf. For all I know, I could possibly be like Leah and transform later on. We don’t know that! So don’t tell me who’s good enough for me. I… I just wanted to talk to you about something important that couldn’t be done over the phone.”

“What is it?” Edward faltered as he stepped closer to her.

(Name) sighed as she tried to form the right words to say in her mind. It had to be said and done. “Do you know of a woman named Delilah Mathers?”

Edward was silent by this question. He didn’t know what to say— it felt like time stopped and then he heard it again. It was like a hole being opened up as low whispers could be heard. (Name) was beginning to get teary-eyed as the whispers grew louder. He heard familiar giggles within his mind as his past began to unravel, but it wasn’t from him. It was from (Name)’s mind. “I know about Delilah and what she was to you,” (Name) recalled as he placed a hand on his arm. “She loves you dearly.”

“How do you know?” Edward pressed as an odd feeling began to spread within his chest.

           “Do you believe in reincarnation?”

            Edward swallowed thickly. “Yes.”

(Name) hummed softly as she pulled her hand away as she clasped her hands in front of her. She took a deep breath as thought out what she wanted to say. The voices began to grow within as he peered into her mind. He could see her memories as a child and Sam and recent memories of Jacob (to which he couldn’t help but growl), but as he continued further he saw his beloved Delilah and (Name) conversing as if they were long-lost friends. “I think I’m her reincarnation,” (Name) confessed shyly as she glanced up at him.

With that, (Name)’s mind began to close and within moments, Edward could only hear radio silence. “I understand now,” Edward murmured softly, enough for (Name) to hear. “Delilah was everything to me. Maybe under better circumstances, I’ll tell you about her.”

(Name) gave him a saccharine smile and gently shoved him even though it wouldn’t do much. “Next time, okay? I must get back inside before Vanessa starts wondering where I am.”

“Come to the graduation party we’re having at my home,” Edward pressed on with the hope that she’d accept. “The senior class is invited, but I’d like to see you there.”

“I’ll think about it,” (Name) chirped as she headed to the door. “See you later, Cullen.”

[~*~]

Vanessa peered down towards the seats where her fellow classmates sat with anticipation. A sea of sunflower yellow filled the large auditorium as Vanessa cleared her throat. She peered over to where her parents sat along with her boyfriend (who actually dressed nicely instead of his usual shorts and shirt) and her best friend silently cheering for her with encouragement. “These last four years in Forks High School have been memorable. I met many amazing people along this journey. From the many state  championship trophies we’ve brought home to the accomplishment of just being here, today we’ve earned it.”

She took a glimpse as she noticed some of her classmates quietly cheering or with triumphant smiles etched onto their faces as she looked back down to her place on her speech notes. “Many of us will be taking separate paths as we venture out into this real world. I grew up with many of you and I know some of us are afraid of what’s out there for us. When we were young, we wished to be princesses, dragon riders, Power Rangers… I myself wanted to be a Sailor Scout fighting alongside Sailor Moon,” At this, several classmates chuckled. “…but as we got older and explored our talents, our hobbies or dreamed of one Day accomplishing, it was then we started answering with truth: doctors, generals, welders, teachers, engineers… and we are so capable of it. My parents came to this country without a single penny to their names and I couldn’t be more proud of them. They sacrificed so much to get me to where I am now. To my parents, mis padres, gracias por todo.

Mr. and Mrs. Ruiz sniffled as (Name) gently rubbed Vanessa’s mother’s back, comforting her as Mrs. Ruiz watched her daughter, the Valedictorian, with proud eyes. “As we get here onto this stage to receive our diplomas, remember this as we begin this new chapter in our lives: make mistakes, it’s okay to fail and enjoy the little things, as well as the big things, in what adulthood brings you.”

At this, everyone cheered with applause as Vanessa gave a bow and turned towards the principals and superintendent to be the first to receive her diploma. Quil hollered as (Name) and Mrs. Ruiz cheered with excitement. Yep, this graduation was definitely going in the books.

[~*~]

“(Name)!” Vanessa beamed happily as (Name) and Quil walked over to her with small bouquets of flowers in their hands for her. “Come take a picture with me! You too babe!”

“Wait,” (Name) gasped as she mockingly placed a hand on her chest. “I thought I was your babe.”

“Too bad squirt,” Quil smirked as he playfully shoved his childhood friend to the side before pulling (Name) to be on one side of Vanessa as he stood on the other side. “Doña Miriam,” he spoke hesitated to Mrs. Ruiz as he attempted to speak Spanish. “¿Nos puede sacar fotos?”

“Wow Quil,” (Name) exclaimed as a smile graced her features while Vanessa blushed that her boyfriend was trying to speak her Native language.

Photos were taken with the three of them and then Vanessa and (Name), followed by candid shots of the cute couple. As (Name) took a picture with Vanessa and her family, a familiar voice called out to them. It was Layla.

“You came,” Vanessa sighed happily as she walked over to hug her friend.

“Yeah, I did,” Layla smiled though it didn’t reach her eyes as she glanced at (Name). “I wanted to apologize for acting like a bitch you both. I love you guys and—”

“We love you bunches Layla,” (Name) said sincerely as she and Vanessa embraced their friend. “You’re okay.”

Layla returned the gesture as Quil grabbed the camera and took pictures of the three friends. Sometimes, friendships go through rough patches and that’s okay especially when accountability comes to play. Friends aren’t always perfect and this, the girls knew. Vanessa pulled back as she looked at her close friends. “So, tonight we’re partying at the Cullens. My parents are having my graduation party next Saturday. Do you two want to get ready at my place?” Vanessa asked though the question was more towards Layla.

“Our course,” Layla grinned as (Name) clapped happily.

“I’m going to head out,” Quil interjected as he gave Vanessa a kiss on the forehead. “Jake, Embry and I will come and crash it later on in the evening. Don’t party too hard (Name).”

“Okay ‘Sam,’” (Name) rolled her eyes playfully as Quil left. “Alright let’s do this.”

[~*~]

No one expected the Cullen's residence to look so magical: the music blared down the street as cars parked on the sides of the street it almost gave ‘Project X’ vibes as Layla, Vanessa, and (Name) walked up the driveway. Vanessa was dressed in a teal sleeveless romper and white heels she had her hair in waves. Layla wore a marigold yellow floral mini dress with white wedges, her long braids with gold accessories within her hair. (Name) wore a maroon mini dress with sleeves off her shoulders and asymmetrical hemming. She had black stilettos and her long straight hair flowed. They were practically parting passing graduates like the Red Sea as some watched with mesmerized looks. The home was transformed into a nightclub as people danced like there was no tomorrow. “I’m going to go look for the drinks,” Layla hollered through the music as Vanessa grabbed her friend's arm.

“I’ll go with you!” Vanessa replied as she turned towards (Name). “Do you want anything?”

“Surprise me!” (Name) grinned cheekily as her friends walked off to look for anything spiked.

(Name) made her way through flushed bodies until she bumped into someone’s back. Just as she was about to apologize, she was then met with familiar golden irises. “Hey!”

Edward didn’t reply back: (Name) realized his pupils had become dilated, making her feel small within his predatory gaze. “Congratulations on graduating!” (Name) attempted to congratulate as Edward slowly came back to his senses.

“Thank you,” Edward mused, a mischievous glint in his eyes as his eyes glanced over to the grand masterpiece up by the stairwell.

(Name) followed his stare over to the array of graduation caps of various colors that were hung up. It was bittersweet really— being frozen in time repeating the same story in different parts of the world. She let out a small chuckle, notifying him she understood his reference as he walked her over to where three of his ‘siblings’ stood. Golden eyes peered at her with genuine curiosity yet, also confusion as Edward and (Name) stood in front of them. “(Name), these are my siblings, Rosalie,” Edward motioned his hand towards the blond woman, “this tall man here is Emmett, and this here is—”

“I’m Jasper,” he introduced himself, a Southern drawl in his voice.

(Name) waved, unaware that Jasper wasn't fazed by her scent of blood— maybe because she had a mild scent of wet dog, but that wasn’t it. Jasper felt at ease, something he has never felt when being around humans. Edward could hear Jasper’s thoughts and smiled half-heartedly.  Just as (Name) was about to say something, their golden eyes flickered over towards the front entrance as Jacob, Quil, and Embry entered inside. (Name) noticed Bella walking over to greet them, though Jacob’s eyes seemed to be trained on his imprintee standing beside the leeches he so despises.

Just as Jacob was about to walk over, Bella tugged him over to where Alice had been standing, looking lost in thought. Something felt wrong; Jasper walked as humanly possible to his mate as Edward and (Name) looked at each other before heading to the group. Despite the loud music and oblivious teens dancing the night away, they managed to be around Alice in no time. “Alice, what did you see?’ Bella asked worriedly.

“The decision has been made,” Alice replied, regaining her senses as Jacob glanced over to his girlfriend walking over to them as he held his imprintee’s hand as if his life depended on it, especially after seeing the goo-goo eyes Edward seemed to be holding for his beloved.

“What’s going on?” (Name) questioned in confusion.

          “You’re not going to Seattle?”

Alice shook her head as her gaze pierced into Bella’s. “No… They’re coming here.”

[~*~]

The party continued outside of Mr. Cullen’s office as The Cullen clan, Bella, (Name), Jacob, Embry and Quil stood in a circle to discuss such prominent matters. “How long?” Edward asked as he leaned against the wooden table by the windowsill.

“They’ll be here in four days,” Alice replied, her face tense despite the beautiful porcelain look she had.

“This could turn into a bloodbath,” Carlisle remarked, his posture similar to his adopted son as Bella stood between them.

“Who’s behind it?” (Name) asked for the first time since entering the office.

“I didn’t see anyone I recognize,” Alice recounted as she crossed her arms over her chest. “Maybe one…”

“I know his face,” Edward exclaimed, “He’s local, Riley Biers.”

Carlisle flickered over to the desk in his office as he walked over to retrieve the ‘Missing Persons’ flier Charlie had given him as he showed it to the group. (Name) felt herself grow cold when she finally put a name onto the person that has been placed into the back of her mind. Jacob’s brown eyes flickered down to his tense girlfriend and quickly realized that was the man that almost killed her friend almost a month ago. “That’s him,” (Name) shuddered as Jacob put an arm over her shoulders and pulled her close to him as a way to comfort her. “He’s the one that almost killed my friend and tried to bite me.”

       “What?” Edward spat venomously. “When?”

“Was he the one to start all of this?” Emmett asked, ignoring the anger brewing in his adopted brother’s insides.

“He didn’t start this,” Edward stated, despite still being angry.

“Whoever did is staying out of the action,” Alice commented with disdain.

“They must be playing with the blind spots in your vision,” Carlisle theorized.

“Either way, the army is coming,” Jasper interjected. “...and there aren’t enough of us to protect the town.”

“Hold up,” Jacob interrupted. “What damn army?”

“Shh Jacob,” (Name) soothed as she leaned closer to him.

“Newborns,” Carlisle clarified as his gaze was on Jacob. “Our kind.”

“What are they after?” Embry pondered to Alice as her eyes flickered over to Bella.

“They were passing around Bella’s scent,” replied Alice. “A red blouse.”

       “They’re after Bella?”

“What the hell does this mean?” Jacob growled with frustration.

“It means an ugly fight,” Carlisle emphasized with a calm voice. “...with lives lost.”

Silence overtook them all. The possibility of losing everything at that moment was at stake. “Alright…” Jacob answered as he thought about the person he adored more than anything in this world. “We’re in.”

(Name) intertwined her fingers into his as she held his hand for comfort. She understood what was at stake and the only ones who were capable of protecting and saving everyone were the wolves and vampires working together. Despite understanding, one person in particular disagreed. “No,” Bella objected. “You’ll get yourselves killed, no way!”

“I wasn’t asking for your permission,” Jacob huffed.

         “Edward,” Bella pleaded.

“They know what they’re doing,” (Name) reassured Bella but she seemed to not take any comfort in that statement.

         “Jacob.”

“(Name),” Carlisle called out to her. “Do you believe Sam will agree to… an understanding?”

“Given many things are at stake including our land, I’m positively sure,” (Name) replied as Jacob smirked.

“Sam will agree as long as we get to kill some vampires,” Jacob added.

Carlisle glanced over to Jasper, who looked deep in thought. “Jasper?”

Jasper seemed to have been thinking about a game plan as he replied, “They’ll give us the numbers, and the newborns won’t know they even exist. That’ll give us an edge.”

“We’ll need to coordinate,” Carlisle included.

“Carlisle, they’re going to get hurt!” Bella exclaimed though her protests seemed unheard.

“We’ll all need some training,” Carlisle encouraged as the boys appeared to smile in agreement. “Fighting newborns requires knowledge that Jasper has. You’re welcome to join us.”

“Name the place and time,” Jacob agreed.

“Jake,” Bella called, “You don’t know what you’re getting yourself into.”

“Bella,” Jacob retorted back. “This is what we do. You should be happy… Look at us, working together. We all have something to lose here if we don’t.”

[~*~]

Jacob and (Name) were the first to leave Carlisle’s office as the party was beginning to die down. Just as the couple walked into the area where everyone had been dancing, Vanessa and Layla appeared with worried faces. “(Name) where did you go?” Vanessa asked as Layla’s eyes flickered over to Jacob before rolling her eyes playfully, seemingly having a thought.

“Nessa,” Layla smirked. “Jacob’s here— These two were hiding off somewhere getting freaky, that’s what.”

(Name) thought she was going to choke at that accusation as she stammered, “W-what?! No! Don’t be ridiculous!”

Jacob smiled bashfully, only fueling the non-existent flames of their alleged sexcapades. “Layla, I’m still a virgin!” (Name) whined, a feeble attempt in salvaging her dignity as her friends laughed.

“Mmm,” Layla grinned. “Just next time tell us you and your boo wanted to get freaky so we don’t worry.”

“Layla I swear to— JACOB YOU PUT ME DOWN THIS INSTANT!” (Name) shouted as Jacob put his girlfriend over his shoulder as Vanessa and Layla watched in amusement.

“Alright ladies, I’ll be taking this one home,” Jacob declared with a smug grin as (Name) protested. “Oh! Vanessa, Quil and Embry are here. I’ll see you two later.”

Jacob took his girlfriend over to where his car was parked in a secluded area of the street beneath a tree, thankful he brought it for this occasion. When he reached his car, he placed (Name) down by the passenger door. “What was that for?” (Name) whined as she adjusted the hem of her dress.

“I didn’t like it the way other guys were ogling my girlfriend,” he admitted as (Name) blushed. “Especially with how gorgeous you look right now… I could just eat you up right now.”

“Jacob!” (Name) exclaimed as she clenched her thighs together. “Stop, you’re turning me on.”

Jacob sensually wrapped his arms around her waist as she hooked her hands behind his neck while he leaned his forehead against hers. “Good,” Jacob chuckled as he moved his lips closer to hers. “It let’s me know I’m doing a good job.”

Jacob gently captured his girlfriend’s lips, despite the sexual tension, as (Name)’s eyes fluttered shut as he poured his love into the kiss. “I love you (Name),” Jacob sighed as he pulled away from her and pressed a kiss on her forehead.

        “I love you too, Jacob.”

Whatever is to come in the next coming days didn’t matter; at the end of the day, all that mattered to Jacob and (Name) was being in each other’s arms.

Brief Author's note

Chapter Text

Hi everyone! Sweetpanda15 here, I'm doing great and alive. I apologize immensely for being gone for so long, however my life changed for the better. After years of believing my husband and I were never going to have children, especially after two miscarriages, we were finally pregnant with our rainbow baby. My life has consisted with enjoying our new edition at the time. Now at 2025, with navigating working and being a mom and potentially going back to school, I'm slowly going back to my hobbies. Motherhood has definitely changed so much for me, but I'm learning to self care because I for one have not been doing that. Writing was definitely one of my self-care and outlets when I'm stressed so I'm going to slowly navigate going back to writing. Thank you so much to those who have been reading these stories. I'm looking forward to updating my series. Much love everyone!!

Chapter Text

The crunching of leaves seemed obscenely loud as (Name) walked to the clearing in the middle of the forest where the Cullen family, as well as Bella, had designated as the training grounds. Edward was the first to notice her arrival, leaving Bella and the others to greet the young woman. “I wasn’t expecting you to be here today,” Edward commented as (Name) crossed her arms over her chest.

“Well, I thought I’d be here for my brother and the others; moral support, I suppose,” replied (Name) as she followed behind Edward to where Carlisle, Alice, Rosalie, and Esme were standing while Emmett and Jasper practiced several feet away, watching them as Jasper pulled Emmett into a hold and then flung him into the air..

“AGAIN!” Emmett growled in frustration, while Jasper gave him a smirk, resulting in Emmett eventually flying onto his back from the impact Jasper landed on him, skidding to a stop against the forest floor.

Edward seemed to have perked up as (Name) and Bella watched them with curious eyes. “They’re here,” Edward signaled towards an elevated part of the forest several yards away.

(Name)’s breath hitched as her brother, in wolf form, made his entrance along with the pack, as well as standing behind him. This was the first time she had ever seen her brother in his phased form, along with others, except for Jacob. Sam looked ethereal; he was larger than the others, as the black fur was a heavy contrast to the forest environment. If Sam wasn’t her brother, she probably would’ve clambered up in fear. Sam was dangerous –no, all of them were. Sam’s eyes flickered over to (Name), a low growl emitting from his chest as (Name) moved a few inches away from Edward.

Despite being in wolf form, Sam was still an overly protective brother. “They don’t trust us enough to be in their human forms,” Edward explained as (Name) looked at him in confusion.

“How do you know what they’re saying?” (Name) asked with wonder.

“I can hear what they’re thinking.”

"So… Translator?” (Name) simplified. “Wait… can you hear what I’m thinking?”

Edward seemed hesitant to answer as his golden orbs gazed over to Bella and then back to (Name). “No, I can’t hear what you’re thinking.”

Edward was aware of the others hearing this proclamation, but they pretended not to pay any mind to it, though Alice noticed the change in Bella’s face after this discovery. “They’re here, that’s what matters,” Carlisle reiterated as they glanced at one another– vampire and wolf, united to protect their home, and Bella, against all odds. “Jasper has experience with newborns. He’ll teach us how to defeat them.”

Hearing Sam’s question, Edward projected the question out loud to the patriarch of their clan, “They want to know how the ‘newborns’ differ from us.”

(Name) peered over to Carlisle as he turned towards the pack, his response at the tip of his tongue. “They’re a great deal stronger than us because their own human blood still lingers in their tissues. Our kind is never more powerful than in our first several months of this life.”

Agreeing with this statement, Jasper makes himself known, as he was no longer the quiet individual (Name) had grown accustomed to. “Carlisle’s right. That’s why a created newborn army doesn’t need thousands like a human army– no human army could stand against them.” Jasper’s eyes connected with Sam’s fueled eyes. “The two most important things to remember are: first, never let them get their arms around you. They’ll crush you instantly. The second is never to go for the obvious kill. They’ll be expecting that, and you will lose.”

Jasper strutted over towards Emmett, his stance to the offensive as he prepared to practice with Emmett once again. “Emmett,” Jasper called to his bulky adoptive brother, commencing their training. “Don’t hold back.”

Emmett smirked cockily, still stoked from earlier, “Not in my nature.”

[~*~]

Each member of the Cullens took turns sparring with Jasper, and with each match, Jasper took the time to advise others on what NOT to do. Each blow, each attack, and dodge seemed blurry yet graceful in (Name)’s eyes. Her eyes flickered over to her brother and the others of the pack, each wolf itching to participate, though they seemed to be holding back. Sitting on a log far enough to be out of harm’s way, she watched her brother’s wolf form pacing and concentrating intently on the latest sparring match between Jasper and Esme.

Suddenly, (Name) felt something brush against her back as (Name) turned around to see Jacob’s wolf form looming over her. “Hey, you,” (Name) cooed sweetly as Jacob’s furry muzzle brushed against her side. “I missed you… I hope this upcoming battle pans out in our favor, babe.”

Jacob’s eyes stayed on (Name), a look of certainty as he nuzzled her again, a giggle erupting from her lips. The crunching of leaves alerted Jacob and (Name) as Bella slowly came to a halt beside them. Jacob’s eyes were filled with concern as Bella tucked her hands into the pockets of her jacket, biting the side of her lip as (Name) glanced down to look at her feet. “Some of you are gonna get hurt,” Bella said without sugarcoating. “Some of you could get killed because of me—”

(Name)’s hands clenched into fists, irritation filling her body at Bella’s words. No shit, people were going to get hurt. “Are you done?” (Name) asked with annoyance, standing up from her spot on the log. “You have some nerve saying that. It’s not just about you— it’s the whole area they are trying to protect from the Newborns. Everyone here cares about their loved ones and knows what’s at stake if they don’t fight back. So stop making this about you—”

“We’re done for the day,” Edward announced as he walked over and sandwiched himself between (Name) and Bella as Jacob growled, his form becoming defensive.

“Yeah, we are,” (Name) agreed coldly as she glared at Edward and Bella before walking away as Jacob followed behind her protectively.

“(Name)!” Jasper called out, walking towards her retreating form as Edward ushered Bella towards Alice and the others. “Thank you for coming today. I feel like your presence helped your brother and the others.”

“Don’t thank me,” (Name) humbly returned. “I mean… There’s not much I can do. I’m only human.”

Jacob watched carefully as Edward slowly headed to Bella, and Jasper gave (Name) a sincere smile. “You’d be surprised at what you can do. Your presence alone… your scent would distract the newborns; their hunting instinct would take over and drive them crazy.”

“Well,” (Name) cleared her throat. “Should it ever be needed, I’ll make myself a distraction.”

At this comment, Jacob whined as Jasper stepped back. “See you later, (Name).”

“Bye!” (Name) shouted, aware of the wave of calmness surrounding her as she and Jacob walked toward the pack.

Angry, red eyes furrowed as Riley Briers dragged his latest victim from his leg, the unfortunate man groaning and severely fatigued. Riley threw the man down as he waited in an unoccupied warehouse. The young man staggered as he stood up, though in the blink of an eye; however, he did not notice the fiery red locks that zipped behind him. Riley’s eyes hardened as Victoria, his ‘mate’, grabbed the man by the top of his head, roughly. She pulled his head up as she whispered to him, “Welcome to the Army.” The young man screamed in pain as Victoria pierced her teeth into his neck to transform him.

The sky was a murky gray as (Name) walked beside Jacob. “So… how’s the whole… Paul being your future brother-in-law?” (Name) teased as the leaves crunched under her step.

“Don’t get me started,” Jacob muttered with a wry smile. “He’s.. He’s..”

“Lovey-dovey like you?” she nudged softly as he wrapped his arms around her waist.

“If you keep this up, I’ll show you lovey-dovey,” Jacob murmured, the threat promising. “I love you… whatever happens with this fight… I just need you to know that I love you.”

(Name) felt the familiar sensation of her cheeks burning. The way he said it… meant more. “I love you too, Jake,” she admitted quietly with a bashful smile.

They reached an open field where Jasper, Edward, and Bella were already waiting, and the smile on Jacob’s face vanished as she noticed Edward. “So…” (Name) started, before clearing her throat. “What’s the plan?” she asked the group, almost as if this were some science project they were working on.

“This field will give us an advantage in battle,” Jasper noted as he glanced around briefly. “We’ll need to lure the Newborns with Bella’s scent, but it needs to end here.”

“Edward and I are going to a campsite,” Bella added to the plan. “Even if he carries me, they’ll still pick up our scents.”

“Your stench, however, is revolting,” Edward interjected bluntly.

“Dude, you really don’t wanna start comparing stinks–”

“What he means is that your scent will mask mine if you carry me,” Bella explained, her gaze flickering briefly to (Name) before looking at Jacob.

Jacob’s expression was unreadable at first. “So… Where will (Name) be in all this? Say that I’m carrying you, where will she be?” Jacob asked. “She’ll be defenseless, and Riley wants her just as much as Victoria wants you. I’m not leaving (Name) to fend for herself.”

“This is not a good idea,” Edward rebutted as Jasper looked at him to reassure him.

“Edward, they won’t want to get anywhere near his… odor,” Jasper hinted, clasping his hands behind his back.

“Wait, Jacob–” (Name) protested, but Jacob shook his head. “No.. If I’m covering your scent, (Name) needs to be by my side just as much.” With that, he allowed himself to transform.

Now in his wolf form, Edward’s jaw slightly clenched. “He wants both of you to get on him,” Edward stated as he read Jacob’s mind.

(Name) was the first to get on, almost as if she were riding a horse. Bella hesitantly got on as she gripped Jacob’s fur, refusing to grab onto (Name). “Alright,” (Name) remarked. “Do the honors, babe.”

Jacob began to trot off into the forest with the two girls, leaving behind Jasper and Edward. After five minutes, Jasper followed behind. He eventually returned to Edward, his golden hair flowing slightly from the breeze. “All I picked up was wolf stench. No Bella and no (Name).” Jasper informed as Edward glanced at his brother, still looking with trepidation. “This will work, Edward.”

Great.”
