Work Text:

Gared.

His first words spoken yelled, actually when the wight approached Cotter and him was Gared.” In a fluid motion he had grabbed his sword, and hauled Cotter up behind him to protect. He yelled for Gared, he needed to know if the wights had gotten to him, because he needed the backup he could offer, Cotter could only do so much with his arm like that. Together, Cotter and Finn back up and he’s filled with anger.

Anger directed towards this undead frosted arsehole of a creature ruining this, anger that he can hear more of them, anger that it’s the growls that fill his head and not the cackling of the fire.

His body itches to truly fight again. To defend, protect, and kill.

Seeing Gared, the man he swore to protect the moment they left Castle Black, fueled his need to fight. He’s worried, Cotter’s gone and he’s not sure if a wight got him or not, he’s reassured to hear his scream. At least he was alive, Slyvi was helping himhe hoped.

He had to help Gared, currently tangled in the dance of battle with a wight. There’s no thought about death, he reaches out and pulls the younger behind him. Gared’s safety was his safety, he had to stay safe.

Finn lunges, he slices, his body working overtime to protect him.

He’s unable to register the spear piercing his flesh and entering his gut until his back is pressed against a tree, and he’s held in position. With the spear being pushed further into his body by the wight, he’s terrified.

Somebodyanybody…” Gared….please, don’t let me die aloneGared, I-

He’s only able to watch as Gared hacks away at the wight, hands pressed close against his stomach to try and stop the bleeding, vision blurring as Gared struggled to free him. He’s free, sinking to the ground in pain with the spear in him, and the cold is all he can feel. It’s intoxicating.

He can’t breath Oh god, he’s drying. I’m dying. I’ve failed my vows, oh gods I’m dying.

Stay with me Finn, please.” I’m trying, I’m trying Gared.

He is trying, he wants to reassure Gared he isn’t going anywhere. He’s trying desperately to stay, but all he can do his moan pathetically. Then Gared’s gone, running back to Cotter and Slyvi. Shithe didn’t want to leave them either!

Please, no, Gods, I’m sorry. I love him. Don’t let me die like this. Gared, burn my body. Please, come back and burn my body. Burn it. Burn me.

Gared.

Notes:

I am not sorry.
