Chapter Text
Susan woke up, not early or late, she was unemployed now, anyway.
She got changed and stepped outside her bedroom.
Sonny was still on spot sitting down, but deactivated, or at least thats how it looked like to Calvin.
She went to the kitchen to make herself breakfast, cereal and milk.
During this, she received a message from Spooner on her phone.

She then turned to the AI and cheerfully asked him if he’d like to accompany her.
He took some short minutes to think about it.
"Does this mean I will have to wear the clothing you purchased?" He asked with a questioning tone.
"Well... Kind of." She attempted to keep on the smile.
Sonny took some minutes to think it again, and then answered.
"I’ll go with you. But you will help me put those clothes on."
Susan snickered.
"Of course." She was glad that the robot did accept to be dressed “humanly”.
She got on her phone again.

"When is it?" The AI asked, ecstatic.
"Oh, It’s.. Today at 4pm." She explained with an amused tone.
"Alright." He walked away and awkwardly stood still on a corner, still ecstatic but he wasn’t really expressive.
Susan excitedly smiled at him and then continued to finish her breakfast.
The AI seemed interested in such a mundane action like eating, continually staring at Susan but then staring away when she noticed.
She looked confused but just continued and finishing her cereals.
Susan took the bowl to her kitchen when she ceased, she washed it and left it to dry.
Susan then returned her attention to the robot.
Sonny stared back, curious.
She smiled and then broke the staring to get everything ready to prepare the AI to go outside later.
Some time later, around 2:43 pm, Susan called for Sonny to come to her living room, kinda excited.
"I think we should get started.. So that I have time to get myself ready too." She lightly smiled.
"Alright." He walked towards Susan and firmly stood.
She got the tags off the clothes and pulled a chair for the AI to sit on when needed.
Susan wasn’t as tall as him so she needed some help.
"You can.. Sit down for the first part."
"Of course." The Robot sat down on the chair.
She started with the hoodie, moving it from his head to the end of his torso with Sonny’s cooperation.
Being so near his chest made her to start feeling something inside her.
"This piece of clothing is truly comfortable." He commented on the Hoodie.
Susan snickered, snapping out of that feeling.
She then pulled out of the bag the pants, she was at one point nervous but decided to just do it and try to avoid any sort of disturbances of her own.
Susan moved the clothes up to Sonny’s thighs, at one point she was almost between his legs, which he didn’t mind, but it finished waking up something inside her, a little and curious feeling.
She backed off a little when she noticed this.
"Stand up for a second.. Please."
The Robot stood up and she finished placing the pants up, buttoning them and pulling the zipper.
She could feel him staring at her, she was on her knees before him. Until she stood up and turned to get the shoes, some nice sneakers that were on neat colors, she was internally praying for them to be his size.
"Sit down again, and lift up your right foot."
The AI did so, and she pushed the shoe in, and surprisingly it did fit, this made Susan feel relieved.
They did the same with his left foot.
She then finally placed the beanie on his head.
"I had to." She couldn’t hold the laughter in, and let it out after giggling.
"No need to apologize, I really like it." He smiled.
"Well, that’s it for the main clothes, your appearance is still comparable to a robot."
"Oh." He enunciated with a hint of disappointment.
"No worries, I know what to do."
She quickly walked to her bedroom and grabbed two things, Sonny seemed confused when he saw the objects at her return, a black face mask and shades.
Susan then approached him and placed the face mask first.
"Where did you get this from?" The AI asked.
"Ah, some old pandemic. Nothing really relevant."
She finished by placing the shades on top of the mask.
"Well, how do you feel?" She was happy with the result.
"Good." His tone when he replied didn’t really scream ‘good’ but Susan trusted him.
She put the hood on his head and adjusted it a little so it could hide some visible wiring.
"Well, I’ll get ready now." She walked off to her room.
Sonny has never entered her room yet, perhaps out of fear but truly out of respect.
He looked at a clock hanging on a wall, it was now 3:23 pm, time surely did fly fast.
It always goes fast when he’s enjoying his time with Susan.
Some minutes later, she got out of her room, wearing a jacket, a semi-long sleeve shirt, some nice jeans and black shoes.
"I got some stuff on a bag in case we needed some extra help." Susan smiled.
"Sounds good." The AI smiled in return but it was now hidden because of the face mask.
"It’s.. 3:47pm.. We should get going."
Susan opened the door of her apartment and walked down to the first floor and the exit of the building, Sonny was kind of nervous but there was no going back now.
They stepped out of the building, and the AI saw the streets with his own fictional eyes after a long while.
He stopped walking for a second, but Susan pulled him by his arm so that he wouldn’t get lost on the crowd.
After a few minutes they arrived to the bar, they got there before Spooner.
The bar was sort of close to his apartment but he was kinda slow changing.
He managed to arrive 12 minutes after them.
He approached both of them, they were sitting on one of the tables on the bar, next to a window.
Susan happily greeted him, Sonny was happy to see him too but the shades and the face mask covered his expression.
"Is that.. Sonny?" He’d stare at the disguised automaton.
"Oh, yes! I-.. We managed to get something for him so that he could come along."
The automaton nodded excitedly.
"That’s great." Spooner chuckled, he never imagined he would see the automaton in clothes. He then sat down with them and they ordered some drinks.
They spent their time talking about everything that had happened to them after the robot uprising, specially Spooner, he had got back into the force and everything seemed bright for all of them, the automaton didn’t speak much but seemed happy to listen to their conversation, taking glances at their drinks and at them.
Susan noticed, and gave him back pats and shoulder pats from time to time, attempting to encourage him to talk.
He only made some short comments on their conversation, but it was all that he managed to do.
A few hours passed, and it was now 5:57pm, Spooner offered to give them a ride home, and they both accepted.
Spooner left them on Susan’s apartment and said goodbye.
It was now 6:20pm, and Susan got into more comfortable clothes and turned on the TV.
Sonny placed the shades and the face mask on a counter that she lent him, and approached to sit with her.
Susan turned to him and warmly smiled as she asked. "So.. Did you enjoy it?"
The automaton slowly nodded, and returned the smile. "I wasn’t aware of how much I missed Detective Spooner."
"Oh, me too. It was nice seeing him and knowing how he’s been." She replied as she turned to see the TV channel again.
"..I did enjoy going outside too, Doctor." Sonny said in a soft whisper loud enough for Susan to hear, slightly smiling with nervousness.
Susan turned to face him again, and gave him gentle back pats as she spoke.
"That’s great Sonny, it’s one of the main reasons why I wanted us to go out."
He.. ‘blushed’, if it was possible for an NS-5 to blush, his cheeks were now stained on a faint mix of sky blue and grey.
She noticed, and couldn’t help but laugh lovingly.
Sonny flinched as she saw her laughing, which only fueled his blushing.
"..A-Are you okay, Doctor?.." He asked, confused. He hadn’t t noticed it yet, but did feel his face a little warmer.
She came back to her senses, and responded, still softly chuckling. "A-Ah, I’m sorry.. You’re blushing."
He sounded really confused. "…I’m What?"
His confusion fueled even more his embarrassment.
Susan placed one of her hands on his cheek, feeling how warm his synthetic skin had become with a loving look, happy to see him feeling well.
Their eyes locked up together, they weren’t even talking, but only looking at each other with endearment, specially Susan.
Sonny then flinched again when he understood the situation, ending the moment.
He buried his face on his metal hands, the ‘blush’ fading away in seconds and then looking up again and trying to ignore what just happened.
Susan’s smile vanished too, focusing on the TV again.
A few minutes later, Susan stood up and stepped over to her room and took some stuff to the bathroom, objects like moisturizer and some other hygiene appliances to do her “skincare routine”.
The automaton didn’t ask why, at this point he was used to see her doing it. He didn’t really understand why but it was interesting to him.
After she finished, she returned to the living room and picked up a book from a shelf, opened it on where she had placed a bookmark and began reading.
Sonny was still sitting in front of the TV, and turned to see her from time to time, still kind of thinking about what he had felt earlier, but found it an awkward thing to talk about, specially with her.
He felt his cheeks lightly warm up just by thinking about it, human emotions were such a complicated concept to him but he felt.. “affected” by them. Managing to “feel” or “imitate” them, like how others could say.
Susan noticed how he’d turn to face her sometimes, and how he was still lightly blushing too from time to time, wondering why but she was too focused on her book to mind it and would only warmly smile at him when she noticed him glancing at her.
She looked up to see her clock, it was now 7:40pm.
Calvin was now preparing her own dinner, which was a simple personal soup.
Sonny by now had accumulated enough courage to ask her about what he felt, to his good ‘friend’, the robopsychologist.
And he approached her as soon as he saw her place her plate on a table, she tilted her head up to face him.
"Is everything alright, Sonny?" She lightly smiled at him.
He felt his cheeks warm up again, and then finally spoke.
"..I didn’t understand, what is the cause of this occurrence?" He pointed to his right cheek, referring to the cause of the blushing.
Susan cleared her throat and then answered.
"Well, it can be caused by many factors. Such as physical as psychological, for example: high temperatures or happiness, embarrassment, endearment, etc."
The automaton kept his confused tone.
"But I’m not supposed to feel like this."
He slowly lowered his hand again.
Calvin stood up and walked over to him, standing close to him as she spoke.
"That’s right.. But you’re different, remember?"
She then placed her hand on his left cheek, slightly rubbing it.
His blush got more noticeable.
"..Yes, I’m unique. But why would I be able to feel, Doctor?" He seemed quite upset about it now.
Susan took a deep breath.
"I’m not sure, Sonny. But it’s not wrong to feel."
The automaton closed his eyes, basking in the feeling of her hand against his cheek and her comfort. Her soothing tone felt almost hypnotic to him, and he made his best efforts to understand.
He then spoke again, in a tone that was barely above a whisper as he slowly opened his eyes again.
"..Thank you, Doctor."
He held her hand in his, a loving look had taken over his facial expression.
Calvin lightly blushed too as she felt his embrace, keeping her smile.
She then traced her fingers along his jawline, turning away and sitting down again to eat her dinner.
Sonny stayed still there for some seconds, still processing what had just happened as he felt how his blush slowly faded away again.
He found himself slightly craving that feeling, this.. “endearment” truly felt nice, huh?
Susan finished eating and washed the remaining dishes along with her plate, before she got ready to go to bed.
The robot decided to keep his need to himself. He felt really upset about feeling such a thing for someone like Calvin, it was.. unstoppable by now, so he decided to just bottle it up.
Her voice interrupted his thought.
"I’ll be sleeping now, Good night, Sonny."
She gave him a gentle shoulder pat and walked over to her room, closing the door behind her.
He said good night and stayed sat, thinking about why and how he was feeling something.. else.
He didn’t want to take it too fast, or even think about seeing it that way.
Why the hell would HE be overthinking it?
No, there just had to be something.
A brand new feeling for him.
