Summary
When Eddie was little, his mother used to hold his hand and squeeze it three times. "It means 'I love you'," she told him, demonstrating one squeeze for each word, "and if you want to, you can give four squeezes back to say 'I love you, too'." So little Eddie squeezed back, that time and every time, until the last time. When his mother died, that form of communication died with her. He never shared that little language of hand squeezes with anyone else.
Until now. Until Steve. Until Eddie loves Steve so much so quickly, fearing it's too soon to say but unable to bear not saying it, and so he squeezes Steve's hand three times.
