Over the past year, Lily and Zari have been navigating their relationship pretty well, but they still blush when they bump pinky fingers and can't even talk about kissing without getting flustered, so Zari gives Lily The Talk™.
"Hey, Lily?" Zari says, her face growing warm, her cheeks and the tops of her ears flushed pink. "You know how we haven't kissed yet?"
Lily nods her head slowly, looking up at Zari, her eyes wide, a knot clenching in her gut. "Yeah?" she says, her voice soft. "What's up?"
"Well, I was thinking..." Zari looks down at her lap, biting her bottom lip and drawing the skin between her teeth. "I think we might have been making too much of a big deal out of it."
"Really?" Lily says, looking at Zari from under her thick dark lashes. "What should we do?"
"I think," Zari says, slowly growing more and more sure of herself by the second, as she reaches a hand out to the side of Lily's face, pushing her purle hair away and tucking a loose strand back behind the shell of her ear, "we should go ahead and just... just do it."
Lily fiddles mindlessly with a hangnail on her thumb, before looking up at Zari's face, feeling the wind knocked out of her. "Okay," she says, sounding as breathless as she feels, "let's do it."
And then Lily is leaning in and closing her eyes and catching Zari's open mouth in a kiss so soft that they don't even realize that they are both running out of air until they both have to pull away, erupting into a fit of soft giggles.
