Chapter 1: Lloyd Garmadon: the Loser™
Chapter Text
People tend to dislike Lloyd Garmadon. People who usually don't know Lloyd at all. People who've never spoke to Lloyd.
Anytime he walks through his schools' halls or down the street, someone is pointing or staring at him and whispering something that Lloyd knows isn't very pleasant. Occasionally they'll even pull out their phone and forget to turn off the flash.
The worst part is, the reason for this less-than-wanted attention is a man of whom Lloyd has never even met; his father. His father, who just so happens to be the evil, tyrannical Lord Garmadon.
The man is a peculiar individual, he's attacked the city with numerous armies but not once has he successfully managed to take over Ninjago. He's managed to topple buildings, he's killed people, he's ruined the many lives of the city's civilians and he's been doing it repeatedly, since before Lloyd was born. However every time it seems he's on top, something backfires and drives him away again.
This is not necessarily a bad thing but unfortunately for Lloyd it is public knowledge that he is Garmadons' son. Lloyd would never outright say he thinks about the circumstances of Garmadon taking over the city but he does often wonder if it would stop people from blaming his mother and himself for the attacks, if they could focus on the one actually committing the atrocities.
Sometimes Garmadon, won't attack Ninjago city for a couple of days in a row and its the most peaceful Lloyd's life gets.
Lloyd can nearly blend into the crowd and pretend to be a normal teenager. The stares and whispers nearly come to a hault. He doesn't get shoved in lockers or have people empty water bottles on him in the middle of class.
It works best when he actively hunches in on himself and puts his hood up- makes himself as invisible as possible. On rare occasions, he can walk into a class or even the school yard and people don't even look up or pause their conversations just to glare at him.
Those rare times make him so ecstatic that he nearly cries everytime they happen.
These peaceful periods are however very rare. Garmadon attacks the city on average, twice a week. While there are procedures in place nearly everywhere in the event of a Garmadon attack, sometimes it still results in human casualties and lives lost.
Lloyd and his mother have not seen hide nor hair of Garmadon in 14 years but that doesn't stop people from blaming them everytime they lose something or someone as a result of an attack.
Lloyd has had people follow him home. His mother was poisoned once and had to be hospitalised for a week. Replacing the sitting room window is a monthly occurrence. They've had neighbours come and beg them to stop Garmadon from destroying relatives homes and they've been able to do absolutely nothing about it.
Lloyd thinks, if he had one wish, it would be for his mother to have never fallen for that dickhead.
Mondays are the worst. Sunday is one of Garmadons usual attack days so, like today, after one very awkward bus ride where as many fellow school goers as possible shove onto the opposite side of the bus he sits on, he gets chased down the hall by someone.
This time it's Chen. Chen is a cheerleader who has nothing better to do than stare at himself in a compact-mirror all day. He's a self-absorbed dickhead and Lloyd doesn't know what he's done to piss him off- as per usual.
Chen is by far the best out of a very bad bunch though. There's contestants who've broken bones before and Chen has yet to lay an actual hand on him.
"Get back here, Garmabitch", calls the cheerleader from behind him. The nicknames the boy has given Lloyd have made Lloyd question on multiple occasions if they were in 3rd year or 6th class.
Lloyd darts through students, willing none realise its him and purposely trip him up.
He dives in-between two lockers, just past the toilet doors, hoping Chen thinks he's gone into the toilets.
His hope slowly and painfully fades as he locks eyes with another student. Lloyd shakes his head vigorously but its already too late.
The boy calls out to Chen and a split second later Chen slams his hand against the locker beside Lloyd's head.
"Hey, Chen", Lloyd drawls nervously.
"Your dad cost me my damn soda yesterday Luh-Loser", he says angirly.
"You chased me down over a drink probably worth two dollars?" Lloyd asks in disbelief.
"It's not about the money dumbass", Chen says with a reddening face, "it's about the fact that it was my-"
"Hey, what are you doing to him?!" Lloyd doesn't realise who ever said that was talking about him until Chen's pulled back by his shoulder.
"It's not cool to corner people in between lockers", the guy says before looking Lloyd up and down, "or to pick on people smaller than you".
Lloyd's face drops but he has had worse stuff said about him so he bites his tongue.
Chen's mouthing off at the stranger and Lloyd takes the moment to zone out of the arguing and observe the individual. He has spiky, gelled back hair- maybe to much gel. He's wearing a red and white Formula 1 jacket and ladys' chunky cat-eye sunglasses. His jeans are ripped and he wears black and red knock-off Jordans. He's not sure what to call the style other than a complete mess.
Now that he's looking at him, Lloyd thinks he has actually seen him around before, but that begs the question, why is he helping Lloyd?
Fingers snap in front of his face and he looks up to the face of this non-stranger. Chen was stomping off down the hall.
"You oka-"
"Why?" Lloyd asks.
"Because you were zoning out," he answers.
"No, why did you do that?" Lloyd stares into his eyes, trying to locate something. What that something is, he's not quite sure.
"Cause Chen's a dick, he's just mad that absolutely everyone else is cooler than him, try to ignore him, trust me, that guy is all bark, no bite." With that, the F1 guy- as Lloyd dubs him, saunters off.
In all Lloyd's 14 years of existence, not once has someone defended him to any capacity. Not that he can remember anyway. Lloyd is frozen to the spot, more stuck now between those lockers than when Chen was there, despite the now open route.
No one has ever done something to help him.
Lloyd cautiously takes a step out into the hall and looks around realising no one else is there and he's late for class, he dips into the toilets. That whole interaction granted him a free breakdown and questioning of everything he's come to know and understand about the world and he was going to take it.
A couple of weeks go by after the Chen incident and Lloyd has since discovered the name of F1 guy, Kai Smith. Kai Smith is on the fucking baseball team. He's popular. His little sister is the notorious Nya who's been suspended repeatedly for activities such as driving a motorcycle through the halls, vandalism, calling teachers fuck face and punching one of her upper-classmen.
The information just serves to make Lloyd much more confused, why would someone who's popular help him, Lloyd Garmadon? His mother thinks he's broken. He's been staring off into space a lot since the interaction. He just can't wrap his head around it.
Lloyd's had so many encounters where people have gone to help him only to realise who he is and leave him high and dry. He's had people watch him get beaten up and threaten to call the cops until they're told its him. He's had teachers ignore him with his hand up or calling them for the full duration of class before. He's had doctor appointments where he just wasn't called and was left sitting in waiting rooms for hours only to be told to go home.
Lloyd knows Kai had enough time to properly look at his face, to realise it was Garmadon's son he had been defending and he still continued.
While Lloyd was locked away in his thoughts, not looking where he was walking, he failed to notice the presence of someone behind him or the hand creeping around his neck until he was harshly stolen onto a side street.
'Not again', he silently begged as it had been what, a month since the last time he was jumped? Usually the break lasts at least three.
Lloyd hits the ground hard. He doesn't waste time looking at his attacker, instead shoving his arms over his head and curling up into a ball.
To his unimaginable surprise, no pain follows. He peaks out between his arms and he's even more surprised by the sight that greats him.
Some old guy is standing over the guy Lloyd pressumes attacked him. He didn't hear any fighting though, or anyone hit the ground.
He jumps when the guy on the ground groans and scrambles to pick himself up.
"Hello Luh-Lyod", the man greats. His extremely magnificent and long beard shifts ever so slightly as he speaks.
"My name is Sensei Wu and you, young one, are a elemental master."
Lloyd blinks at the man and then blinks again, "ex-excuse me?"
"You are an elemental master", the man replies in the exact same tone.
"I'm a what?"
Wu sighs before starting to walk towards the main street again, taking good measure to walk on top of the guy who attacked Lloyd in the process.
"Lloyd Garmadon, you are the destined Green Ninja, elemental master of life and creation, you are to defeat the evil Lord Garmadon, once and for all."
Lloyd's heart drops at the mention of his father.
"I want nothing to do with that man, and I'm no essential master or whatever", he snaps. He's in the process of storming off when he hears the older man call out from behind.
"You'll know where to find me."
Lloyd continues on without looking back. His life is a struggle enough without lost grandparents telling him he's an essential master of creation and what not.
Chapter 2: Cole Brookstone Should get Better at Keeping Secrets
Summary:
Hiiii, so, this is a bit late, aha, sorry.
Anywayyy, where do I even start, this is not a Lloyd-centric chapter, sorry, he will be back.
Chapter Text
The day after the interaction with the odd elderly individual, there was a Garmadon attack. Nothing very unusual about one occurring on a Wednesday at roughly three o'clock. However what was extremely odd was that this time there was footage captured by a news agency of a 'ninja' clad in black fighting Garmadon's troops, demolishing nearly all of them.
People were instantly obsessed with the footage. They wouldn't stop talking about it on the news and he could hear a lot of people talking about the 'ninja' in the school halls. People who were too distracted by the ninja to care about Lloyd. If he ever got to meet the ninja, he would graciously thank him.
Lloyd managed to make it from the front gate to his locker to the physics classroom without so much as a glare being thrown at him. He even dared to look around the class and observe his classmates, something that would usually get a rubber thrown at him and called a 'stalker'.
His thoughts travelled back to the ninja and then to the old man, there was no possible way they were connected. They couldn't have been, it was too coincidental.
A brief search on the internet led Lloyd to the conclusion that essential masters weren't a real thing but the ninja in the video wasn't just fist fighting the shark bots. The camera angle isn't great but it appears as though the ninja is doing a specific pose or something like "using the force" before the bot goes flying backwards.
Lloyd yelps when his phone is suddenly yanked out of his hand. His face burns as he looks up to a teacher who's now giving out to him for having the phone out in class- despite the fact there's a classmate sitting two seats in front and one to the right of him who's texting away without a bother.
Cole Brookstone is not necessarily popular. He's an average kind of individual in that regard, however the same can't be said for his strength. Somehow, despite actively avoiding gyms like the plague and his extreme dislike for any sport that involves any movement similar to contemporary dancing, he's really strong.
He's had this unmatched strength since he was a baby but he never really questioned it. Not until he ran away from home and climbed the mountain range outside of Ninjago, the one his mother used to take him to when he was much younger. They never made it to the top, Cole was way to small for that but occasionally they would camp on the hills for a few days.
After he had ran away, he planned on not returning. He wanted to go and live on the mountain so he would never have to dance or sing again.
Faith of course had other plans. It wasn't a well thought out plan anyway, but an old man who somehow managed to convince him not to immediately up, or rather down and leave, told him he had magical powers. The old man who was casually waiting for Cole to climb the mountain. The man who apparently knew Cole was going up there and that Cole had run away despite Cole never meeting the guy before. A very odd man.
Cole was on the verge of leaving but the man told him to ground himself and close his eyes. He told him to focus on the ground under him and for whatever reason, Cole felt compelled to listen to him.
Then the man told him to lift the earth infront of him and to open his eyes.
Cole opened them to a very small pebble floating about half a meter infront of him. In his shock, he had let out a scream and nearly tumbled back down the mountain.
Initially Cole declared that too weird for him and left but about half an hour later he returned to the top of the mountain because he had too many questions.
After a very long conversation, Cole discovered the man's name was Wu- Sensei Wu, spinjitzu master and brother of Lord Garmadon. Wu had single-handedly been stopping Garmadon from taking over the city for the last couple of years but was apparently getting to old for all the fighting. In order to keep him at bay, he started seeking out the elemental masters.
Cole was apparently the master of earth. He was able to control and communicate with the earth. Cole found this fitting with his love of climbing. Wu had also told him his strength was not a natural occurrence. It was part of his magical powers. Wu hates it when he calls them magical powers.
Wu started training him and Cole was surprised to say the least, Wu said he was looking for elemental masters because he was getting to old but he was able to take Cole down in under thirteen seconds.
After five months, Wu started letting him join him, fighting off Garmadon's troops. It was really exciting.
Unfortunately, in order to be close enough to protect the city, he had to move back in with his dad (who hadn't realised he left in the first place) but, it also meant he got to spend ages at Wu's monastery, training or just hanging around.
Things started to look up in school aswell, he made a friend. Not that he didn't have friends before but this was different. He met Jay Walker, an absolute nerd. He sat at the same table as him during one lunch break and then they sat at the same table the next day and the next and they sort of fell into a pattern of sitting together.
Cole eventually decided to take it upon himself to start talking to the other and they got along better than Cole thought they would.
Jay was quite at first but it didn't take long for Cole to meet the real Jay, the very talkative Jay. Jay had even less friends than Cole. He lived at a junkyard and he loved inventing things. There were little robots and toys and machines everywhere.
Cole was rarely at home anymore, between school and Jay's, not that it mattered. The last time Cole tried to speak to his father about buying him a guitar for his birthday, his father had agreed and instead bought him tap dancing shoes.
Cole sort of messed up. In one of his fights against Garmadon's troops he'd been too occupied slamming a pebble into a bot, he hadn't noticed the news camera pointed directly at him, recording the whole interaction.
Wu lectured him on the importance of stealth but ultimately said it didn't matter too much if civilians knew, as long as they didn't know his real identity.
Walking through the halls of school the next day was like a fever dream, people were talking about him. Not even in a bad way.
The video of him fighting the bots got shown on the news, now it was everywhere. He couldn't wait to tell Jay.
He was the first in the cafeteria, waiting excitedly for his best friend. Jay was usually late, on Thursdays Jay's last class before lunch was engineering and that was similar enough to robotics that Jay apparently had to get as much out of the class as he could.
Jay was visible from a mile away, he leaves a trail of pens, pencils and calculators wherever he goes because he's never bothered to put his stuff in a pencil case or school bag. Same goes for his school books.
Every lunch, Cole helps tidies up his stuff but every day Jay comes back with his stuff in worse condition.
Cole grabs the pencils that spill out of his friends bag when he drops it onto the table and ignored Jay's protests as he stuffs the pencils into a shiny pink pencil case.
"Don't argue with me Jay, this is disgraceful!" Cole laughs.
The two talk for a while about Jay's class and it reminded Cole of his exciting news. He was about to tell Jay the ninja situation when some idiot poured a canteen milkshake-of-the-day manky yellow milkshake, over someone standing behind Jay. Jay let out a bigger screech than the milkshakes victim.
Cole noticed Jay's books were now covered in milkshake and he couldn't help the laugh that escaped him. Jay glared daggers at him. Jay also hit him over the head with one of the milkshake books and Cole exclaimed a series of profanities at his friend.
In all their banter and bickering, Cole forgot to tell Jay he was the Black ninja- and that he had magical powers.
When school finished Cole went straight to the monastery. Thursdays were training days, he arrived on time and got changed. All was fine, until he walked out of the building into the training yard.
Wu wasn't there. Cole looked around for a bit but still couldn't find him. Eventually he decided to start training anyway, hoping Wu would show up eventually.
After about two hours Cole finally heard a voice. He jumped up from where he had been lying on the ground, knocked down as a result of sheer boredom and a punching bag swinging back.
He spun around to find Wu standing at the door to the yard, but he wasn't alone. There was another person, dressed in a gi identical to Coles but there were blue accents here and there in it.
"Master of Earth, this is the Master of Lightning. From now on you will train together and eventually, the Master of Lightning will join you, fighting against Lord Garmadon."
"What?! You never mentioned another ninja!" Cole exclaimed.
"I suppose I didn't," Wu said as he stroked his beard, "Well anyway, Earth ninja, you know the exercises already, please show the lightning ninja what to do."
Wu was about to leave when the Lightning ninja began to introduce himself. Before he got his name out, Wu hit him in the face with his staff.
"No, never tell anyone your true identities. You never know what could happen if that information fell into the wrong hands. That why I-" he turns sharply to look at Cole, "-keep out of the public eye. What they don't know can't hurt you."
The lighting ninja, still recovering from getting smacked with a stick, interjected with an "I'm pretty sure that's not how the saying goes".
Wu left without another word. Cole was lucky he hadn't said anything to Jay earlier, even though he whole-heartedly trusts his best friend.
The two ninja trained for a good hour and a half before it got to dark to do anymore.
It was safe to say taking on the Lighting ninja was, in Cole's opinion, one Wu's worse decisions yet. He was arrogant and he didn't listen at all.
Cole feared what the next while had in store.
Chapter 3: Jay Smells
Summary:
Happy Christmas(ʃƪ^3^ )
Yes, it has been over a year or something, yes I did say I'd update soon, no I didn't update soon, but I'm here now that's all that matters right? ':) Plus nearly three thousand word chapter so that's a bonus right?
Something to note* I changed it so Cole is in the year above Jay.
Also disregard the tumblr info because I've forgotten most of how the lore was supposed to go so I'll make a new one.
Chapter Text
Jay had always been a fair bit of a nerd. When he was really young he got along with the kids his age fine but as he got older, he stayed the same level of hyper and loud and "childish" while the other kids got calmer and more "mature".
He wouldn't have said he really struggled socially though until he got to Secondary School, where he more less plummeted. It started off with struggling to make friends, then he struggled to keep up with all the written assignments and projects.
If it wasn't bad enough he couldn't get along with or keep up with his peers, a guy called Nadakhan moved into the class. At first he was in a similar position as Jay and having taken pity on the guy struggling to make friends, Jay befriended him.
They got along quite well and Jay would say they reached a stage were Nadakhan and himself were closer than Jay was to his own parents.
There was a lot about himself Jay hadn't been able to tell people growing up, for one reason or another.
Jay was adopted by his parents, he has no idea who his biological mother and father are. While he was at first, he isn't really bothered to find out who they are anymore. Ed and Edna had taken him in when he was a baby and they've cared for him up until this point.
Nadakhan was the first person he ever told this too. It wasn't that he meant to keep it secret, he just hadn't got the opportunity to tell anyone.
One he had purposely kept to himself though was that he lived on a junk yard. He loved it, he, much like his parents, loved inventing things, like machines and robots and anything he could think of. Living in a place like that gives him a lot of room to mess with a lot of machinery but he doesn't know if other people will get that they aren't dirty. It's not rubbish, it's just old machinery and their caravan isn't even close to the scarp piles, it's basically an organised chaos.
This was something he eventually let Nadakhan in on. He wasn't sure how he'd react but he didn't seem to mind to much. They started making a lot of things together. Jay didn't really care anymore that he didn't have more friends because he was happy to just have someone.
They got along for years without many issues and most of Jay's secrets ended up being told to Nadakhan and vice versa, then they got to 4th Year. Another transfer student joined their class, Nya Smith, a known and feared delinquent. She'd been kicked out of the girl's school for beating one of her upper classmen up and she'd been transferred to their school. Her older brother was actually a year above Jay.
Nya was amazing. Jay wasn't stupid. He didn't stand even the slightest chance with her but she, unlike Jay, didn't give a fuck what people thought of her. Like Nadakhan, no one approached her and unlike him, she seemed to not want to be approached.
Nya was also a bit terrifying. She told people to fuck off if they bothered her, she told teachers to fuck off if she didn't want to do her work, she wrote on lockers, desks, windows, anything she could reach. She'd threaten to and sometimes would attack people if they gave her enough of a reason too.
It wasn't a secret as such, taking one look at Jay's face whenever she walked into the room would tell you he had a big crush on the classmate but he'd rather no one knew in fear of the girl potentially murdering him should she find out. Nadakhan just like so many of his other secrets, ended up being told about Jay's crush and something in their friendship changed.
Nadakhan started giving him the cold shoulder. He stopped coming over and he befriended other people. Then he started getting blunt with Jay, any time he would say something he'd be met with a response that made Jay feel stupid.
The other friends weren't people Jay was too familiar with but he recognised them as mostly people from the year beneath them. They were people that Jay didn't want to associate with which was funny considering that was mostly for similar reasons to why he liked Nya. They were delinquents. The difference was that Nya mostly kept to herself and didn't really start that much. Nadakhan's friends were thieves. They were bullies. They started fights and they made it everybody's problem.
Nadakhan also clearly didn't want those friends to know himself and Jay we're friends. He'd point blank ignore Jay if all of them were in close proximity.
Jay doesn't know how he did it but Nadakhan also managed to start getting close to Nya. She never seemed that interested but she'd talk to him and that was more than she'd do with anyone else.
Nadakhan often made a point out of making direct eye contact with Jay when he would be conversing with Nya.
While it did hurt that he was losing the friendship that meant so much to him for so long, it wasn't like he hadn't been in that position before. So he kept his head down and minded his own business.
Of course, it couldn't just stay that way though. That would be too easy. All of Jay's secrets got out. From getting adopted to the junk yard to hid crush on Nya, as well as all the other little private details about himself that he'd only told one person.
When he'd walk into the class, someone would make a comment about the smell, if something came up in class about families or income, a comment would be made. When Jay would open his lunch box, if he sat too near his class, a comment would be made.
Jay did try tell teachers about what was happening but it wasn't exactly hard to figure out Jay was the one who snitched. So that just meant there was more ammunition for his classmates to make comments about him.
Jay was heavily starting to consider dropping out when he befriended an upper classmen called Cole Brookstone. That friendship took a long time to have any progress beyond the pair just greeting each other whenever one would sit at the table in the cafeteria that the other was already seated on but once they began talking, the pair couldn't stop.
Something Jay couldn't understand was why Cole didn't have more friends to sit with or hang out with. Cole was awesome. He was really good at playing music but he also hated it which was hilarious to Jay. He could skateboard and everyone would say hi to him but again, he'd never sit with anyone else at lunch time.
Cole was also nothing like Nadakhan which was confusing to Jay. Nadakhan was shy and quite and he was interested in similar nerdy things as Jay. Cole had no interest in engineering like Jay did but he listened whenever Jay would go on detailed rants about his robots and machines.
Cole didn't even pretend to want to learn how to build to stuff Jay did but he begged Jay to let him see the stuff he'd made. Jay was extremely weary about letting Cole come over to the junkyard, scared that he'd think Jay was a filthy person who lived in dirt but Cole was beyond excited when Jay eventually invited him over.
Cole could also tell how hesitant Jay was about bringing him over and even just revealing information about himself to Cole in the first place so Cole told Jay about his shitty home life.
His father was basically absent and his mother passed away when he was a lot younger. He doesn't have any siblings and he doesn't like being at home.
Ed and Edna didn't mind him coming over at all, they were confused when Cole more less completely replaced his old friend but Jay didn't want to explain to him that Nadakhan went from being Jay's best friend to somewhat of a bully and over what Jay guesses was anger that they both liked the same girl.
It was just too awkward of a topic to bring up to them. Plus they actually got along quite well with Cole. They thought he was funny and Jay counts a win as a win.
Jay had a good day in school. He had a lot of fun in his engineering class, he had what was supposed to be done in an hour long class done in 20 minutes. He couldn't wait to show Cole his finished project though it would be a couple weeks till it would be completely finished.
He waited till after the bell rang before packing up his belongings and headed to the cafeteria to meet up with Cole.
Upon arrival he was met with Cole shoving his belongings into an ugly girly pencil case. He was extremely unimpressed.
He was even more unimpressed when someone poured disgusting cafereria milkshake over his books, well not on purpose but it was still disgusting.
Cole laughed at him so he obviously had to retaliate by whacking Cole with a milkshake book.
The rest of the day went by fine and Jay hoped to catch up to Cole after school but he unfortunately missed him. He'd see him tomorrow so it was no bother but Jay really liked hanging out with Cole.
Jay arrived home and discovered his parents had gone out, where he doesn't know but he knows they'll be back eventually.
Jay decides to continue working on projects around the junkyard when he suddenly gets goose Bumps along his arms. He feels like he's being watched and discretely as he can he looks around his surroundings. He doesn't see anything strange so he continues on. Eventually the feeling gets a bit too strong for his liking however, so he decides the best course of action is to hide himself in the trailer with all the doors and windows locked.
He makes to carry out his plan but once he opens the trailer door he's stopped in his tracks. He very slowly turns to face the gas stove. There is a man sitting in the trailer. In his family's trailer.
Jay very slowly backs out and closes the door. Then he opens it again and peers back inside hoping he was just seeing things.
The man, dressed in a mostly white outfit, sits with a cup in his hand and his face is obstructed by a large conical straw hat. He looks up at Jay with a raised eyebrow.
Jay closes the door again. He doesn't know what to do. He needs to get rid of the man but he can't fight and if the man is voilent he won't stand a chance.
Jay opens the door again and the man says "greetings, young man."
Jay let's out a screech before slamming the door closed.
He runs into the yard and hides in one of the junk piles. Moments later, the man comes out of the trailer and addresses the air.
"I've come here in search of the elemental master of lightning. I am Sensei Wu. I am Lord Garmadon's brother and I need your help stopping him from taking over the city."
Jay physically couldn't restrain himself from screeching "what?!" At the top of his lungs, revealing his hiding place.
Sensei Wu looks at Jay and holds out his staff. "Follow me", he says before waving his staff around in a motion Jay presumes is telling him to follow.
For some reason Jay feels compelled to do so. They stop at the door of trailer and Wu hands him a bunch of fabric.
"Go put this on, meet me outside once you're done. Your training starts today."
Wu then ushers him to the door before walking towards the exit of the junkyard.
Jay complies, in somewhat shock.
The pair leave and Sensei Wu just has to take them through the dirtiest, filthiest alleys he can find. It takes them about an hour to get to the destination Wu was bringing him to.
Wu mention that he'll meet someone else once they get inside and they walk through the gates to see a guy dressed in a very similar outfit to Jay's on the ground. The guy quickly picks himself up and brushes himself off. He quirks his head when he sees Jay.
Wu introduces him and the other let's out a cry of outrage at the thought of there beinganother ninja. Wu glosses over the reaction and tells the "Earth Ninja" to run Jay through the exercises.
Jay begins to introduce himself but Wu interrupts him, explaining that they cannot reveal their identities to anyone else. After that Wu leaves the pair to "train".
"Lightning, Light, Lights can I call you Lights, I'm going to call you Lights, you can call me ... Earth? Rocks? Rocky! Like the movie, come follow me."
Jay blinks at "Rocky", the guy is insane but he follows anyway. They run through a bunch of different exercises, most of which have Jay landing on his ass, thoroughly embarrassed.
Rocky keeps sighing everytime Jay messes up and its starting to make him mad.
It happens again and Jay can't help himself, "if you're so tired maybe you should go to bed."
He can't see Rocky's face, only his eyes and Jay nearly laughs out loud when his eyes widen twice the size they were at that comment.
"Hey! Maybe if you just tried even a little bit, we would be making progress", Rocky snaps back.
"I am trying, you are just an awful teacher", responds Jay.
"I don't think you understand. We need to take over Sensei Wu's job. We need to fight Garmadon. We need to protect the innocent civilians of Ninjago, we can't do that, while you're sitting on your ass, Lights!"
Jay is about to point out he's only been doing this for about two hours when the door of the monastery slams open.
Wu stands there, angry. "You two! You are mature individuals. You should not be arguing like this. "Rocky", ", Wu mocks, "it is his first day and you're students reflect your strengths and failings as a teacher. You can't expect him to know how to fight right from the beginning. I believe this might be easier to do this another way."
"Lights, Rocky, follow me", he continues.
They follow Wu out of the monastery, out to a telephone pole, Wu jumps up the pole with help from his staff in a way that neither ninja were expecting. He uses his staff to tear the wires down from the pole, neither ninja pointing out the whole block that loses power moments after Wu does so.
Wu turns to Jay once he's back on the ground.
"Close your eyes." Jay gulps with anxiety but complies. "Feel the electricity, you are the master of lightning and you can control electricity, concentrate."
Jay keeps his eyes closed and tries as hard as he can to feel something external. Something, like a switch, flips and Jay feels himself connected to an energy. Something glows and he opens his eyes. He's has electricity running up and down his arms and he is shocked.
He wasn't really sure if he should believe Sensei Wu about being an "elemental master" but there's no way he can doubt what he's seeing.
"You are not yet ready and it will take time but eventually you will join the master of Earth and you will defend Ninjago from evil. We are done for today, I will see you both at the weekend."
Neither ninja get a chance to decline before Sensei Wu stalks off.
