STORY/BATTLE COMPLETE

Notes:

(A/N: I recently stumbled across the Death Battle category section of this site. That's really awesome, because I'm a big fan of the series. I even helped a friend of mine write several Death Battles that they've been posting on the Death Battle website. Now that we know that they have a section for DBs here, I've been given permission to post the ones we worked on together here. So here's the Death Battle between Selene from "Underworld" and Blade/Eric Brooks from "Blade".)

Chapter 1: Introduction

Chapter Text

INTRODUCTION

Wiz: For years, society has been fascinated by the legendary creature of the night called the vampire.

Boomstick: And when it comes to badassery, no vamps are more vampy than these two badass, bloodsucking soldiers.

Wiz: Selene, an over 600-year-old vampire soldier and the current head vampire Elder.

Boomstick: And Blade, the half-human, half-vampire Daywalker, and greatest enemy to all things batty. He’s Wiz and I’m Boomstick.

Wiz: And it’s our job to analyze their weapons, armor, and skills to find out who would win a Death Battle.

Chapter 2: Selene

Chapter Text

SELENE

Wiz: Back in the fifth century, there was a powerful warlord known as Alexander Corvinus, who became the sole survivor of a plague. This virus caused a mutation in him, turning him into the first immortal.

Boomstick: And then he and the wife had a few kids, one who became the first vampire after getting bit by a bat, and one who became the first werewolf after being bitten by a wolf. And then these two brothers went on to create the entire vampire and werewolf race.

Wiz: After the werewolves evolved, or I suppose you could say devolved, depending on how you look at it, into a weaker breed of werewolves that became known as lycans, who could retain their human form, a war between them and vampires soon broke out that would last for centuries.

Boomstick: And because they wanted to be fancy, the vampires decided to call their soldiers Death Dealers. And the most badass Death Dealer of all is this leather-bound beauty. The hottest cold-blood vampire girl around, Selene.

  • Background
    • Age: 632+
    • Height: 5’7
    • Weight: 120 lbs.
    • Born: 1383
    • Species: Evolved Corvinus Strain Enhanced Vampire
    • Named after the moon goddess
    • Turned at age 19
    • Sired by the vampire Elder Viktor
    • Seeks revenge for her family’s murders
    • Holds a deep hatred for lycans
    • Defected Death Dealer (lycan hunter/soldier)
    • Current head vampire Elder
    • Mate of Michael Corvin
    • Mother of Eve
    • Sire of Michael Corvin and David
    • Indirect sire of Semira
    • Successor of Alexander Corvinus

Wiz: At just 19 years old, Selene’s entire family was brutally killed. She was then found by Viktor, the head vampire Elder, who turned her into a vampire. This began her life of vengeance as an immortal.

Boomstick: You know, calling them immortals isn’t really accurate. That would imply that they can’t die, but there’s certainly a lot of killing going on.

Wiz: Yes, there is some inconsistency with the term, but in this case, it’s mostly in reference to lifespan, as both vampires and lycans possess eternal life. Those that are naturally born or turned will only continue to age until they reach their prime. That coupled with their durability and regeneration classifies them as having Type 1, 2, and 3 immortality.

Boomstick: Wait, there are different 3 types of immortality?

Wiz: Actually, there are 11, or 12 if you include robots. And the immortals of Underworld possess Type 1, eternal life, where they never age past a certain point, Type 2, endurance immortality, where they’re capable of surviving what would typically kill other living things, like sustaining lethal damage, and Type 3, healing and regeneration, where most fatal injuries will heal and lost limbs will grow back. Since we see other immortals as infants, children, teenagers, and young adults, who only age until they reach their prime, and they can withstand extensive damage and heal fatal wounds, the first three Types of immortality apply to them.

Boomstick: So what about some of the older looking ones? Why are they all old and stuff if they’re not supposed to age past a certain point?

Wiz: Ah yes, see, these immortals were formerly humans that were turned after they had already aged past the point where they would have stopped aging had they already been immortal. As I said, pure born immortals and humans who have been turned when they were young will only age until they reach their late twenties or earlier thirties, at which point they’ll stop aging and will continue to live forever unless they’re killed, while those who have been turned that are already past their prime will simply stop aging.

Boomstick: Man, that must suck for any old people that get turned since they don’t get any younger when they turn. Can you imagine being stuck forever as a 90-year-old or something? I think I’d rather die.

Wiz: Already being past your prime when being turned aside, even immortal children are shown to possess abilities like super strength and super speed, and Selene dedicated her life to sharpening her skills over the next 600 seeking to avenge her family from the lycans.

Boomstick: Hold up a second, you said 600. Didn’t she say in the fifth movie that she had lived for a thousand years?

Wiz: True, and while the timeline has been retconned a couple times throughout the series, considering that the instance you’re referring to was a voiceover where she was narrating, this was likely her telling the story in the future where she is over 1,000.

Boomstick: Man, comic book stories are confusing.

Wiz: Comic books? No, Boomstick, Underworld isn’t based on a comic.

Boomstick: Really? It certainly has the feel of one. They should definitely make a comic series of it.

Wiz: Well, there is a comic adaptation of some of the movies, but that’s irrelevant.

Boomstick: Says you.

Wiz: Anyway, back on topic. Having believed that lycans killed her whole family and were little more than murderous beast who thrived on killing, Selene, understandably, developed a deep hatred for them and a sought to mercilessly wipe out their entire race. And during her long period as a Death Dealer, she and the rest of the vampires wiped out all werewolves and hunted the lycnas to the brink of extinction. In fact, Selene had become so consumed with vengeance that she had lost almost all traces of humanity within herself, and nearly forgotten that she was actually a woman, focusing so much on her revenge and thinking of herself as little more than a weapon meant for killing lycans.

Boomstick: Too bad her vengeance was all based on a lie. It was actually Viktor who killed her family during one of his illegal blood binges. He just blamed it on the lycans in order to recruit her.

Wiz: Actually, there was a little more to it than that. See, the first werewolf, William, was the twin brother of the first vampire, Marcus. And since he was a werewolf rather than a lycan, he was unable to resume human form or control his bloodlust, and so went around killing and turning humans by the masses. So Marcus recruited and turned Viktor into a vampire in order to hunt down and capture William.

Boomstick: But since Viktor was using lycans as slaves at this point, Marcus lied in order to protect his brother and said that if William died that all lycans would die with him. So instead, Viktor hired Selene’s father to build a prison to keep William locked away in.

Wiz: But when Lucian, the first of the lycans, stole the key to William’s prison without knowing what it actually was, Viktor decided to wipe out Selene’s so family to keep William’s prison a secret.

Boomstick: And since Selene reminded Viktor of his own daughter, who Viktor himself had sentenced to death after she fell for Lucian and got knocked up by him, he spared her and made her a vampire instead, sort of becoming a second father to her.

Wiz: But it seemed as if history was destined to repeat itself. Since the reason Viktor killed his daughter was because he feared the power of her and Lucian’s child being a hybrid, Lucian searched for the descendant of Corvinus’ human descendant, who had passed down the Corvinus strand over the centuries. This eventually led him to the current descendant, Michael Corvin, whom Selene ended up falling in love with, reawaking the compassionate side of herself and her humanity that she had forgotten during her quest for revenge.

Boomstick: Which pissed off her vampire daddy a whole lot, especially when she chose to turn her back on her coven and save Michael instead of killing him after he was turned into a lycan, and then bit him to turn him into a hybrid in order to save his life. But that’s ok, because when Selene learned that Viktor was the one who killed her family instead of the lycans, she sliced his freakin’ head in half! She actually cut him through so fast and so clean that he didn’t even notice, and it took a full 35 seconds before his head split apart.

Wiz: This, of course, made Selene a traitor to her coven, which didn’t really matter much since Viktor was now dead and Marcus had also become a hybrid and destroyed his own coven, seeking to free his brother and create a new race of hybrids that he would rule over. Which meant drinking Selene’s blood and inheriting her memories through her blood in order to find out where William’s prison was.

  • Powers and Abilities
    • Corvinus Strain evolved physiology
    • Var Dohr’s enhanced physiology
    • Superhuman speed, strength, stamina, durability, dexterity, reflexes, endurance
    • Immunity to sunlight
    • Heightened vampire senses
    • Healing and regeneration (accelerated by drinking blood)
    • Inherits memories by drinking blood
    • Vampire fangs and claws
    • Wall crawling
    • Eternal life (physically 30)
    • Sensory synchronization (with Eve)
    • Resurrecting others
    • Can speak Russian and French
    • Her blood can evolve/enhance other immortals
    • Leadership, tactician, marksmanship
    • Expert hand-to-hand combat
    • Weapons – Beretta handguns and Walther P99s, explosive shuriken, knives, sword, silver grenades
    • Spiritual powers – Sacred World connection, soul reading, clairvoyance, spirit transcendence

Boomstick: Blood memories? That’s kind of weird.

Wiz: But not unheard of. In fact, that both vampires and lycans can also pass on memories through their bites, likely because the virus in their blood and saliva carries them. And as you would expect, all vampires have the classics vampire fangs and extendable claws, which can allow them to cling to or crawl along walls.

Boomstick: Pfft. As if they need such things. These guys are so fast and so strong that they don’t need any of that stuff to hunt down prey. But hey, maybe you’ll get lucky and end up as an immortal too.

Wiz: It should be noted though that the viruses that both vampires and lycans transmit are deadly, and are actually more likely to kill a person rather than turn them. And unless you possess the Corvinus Strain, a bite from both species will kill you.

Boomstick: Then it’s a good thing that Selene was able to drink the blood of the source, from Mr. Alexander Corvinus himself.

Wiz: Corvinus allowed this in order to make Selene strong enough to be able to fight against Marcus and William since, as a third-generation vampire, she was far out of their league. Also because the older an immortal is, the stronger they are, and both Marcus and William were much older than her, so she needed the power boost.

Boomstick: Yeah, but Selene was already a badass to begin with. She’s got great leadership skills and is an incredible tactician and markswoman. She’s an expert in hand-to-hand combat, and a dead shot with her handguns. I especially like those Berettas of hers, even though they followed movie logic where they have, like, a hundred bullets in them. Those things are only supposed to hold about 15 rounds per clip; at most 35.

Wiz: But guns aren’t the only weapons that Selene specializes in, as she’s also shown to be skilled in the use of shuriken, swords, and knives, all of which are coated in silver, which lycans are fatally allergic to, but vampires are not. In fact, the only weakness that vampires have is that they burn up if they’re exposed to sunlight. Well, that and nightshade, which paralyzes them in small doses and can be lethal in large ones.

Boomstick: Nightshade, huh? That’s a new one. But at least garlic doesn’t affect them. And since vampires are a species rather than supernatural creatures, things like holy items or running water don’t affect them either. Oh, and they have reflections.

Wiz: On their own though, the vampires in Underworld are very powerful creatures, as Selene has demonstrated. In addition to having sharpened senses, she can move so fast that she appears as a mere blur to humans, and even run horizontally against trees, and she can jump high enough and fast enough that she appears to fly through air. She’s incredibly strong as well, having been seen tearing an entire iron beam out of a pier while she was injured, and is even able to fight against fully transformed lycans, who are capable of moving large objects like jeeps. All these qualities also give her supernatural reflexes, stamina, and endurance, and even extreme temperatures don’t seem to bother her. She’s also incredibly durable.

Boomstick: No joke. She’s jumped down entire buildings and cliffs and just walked off. One time, she took a shotgun blast to the chest, and all it did was piss her off. She’s fallen down an elevator shaft onto several beams before having the elevator fall on top of her, gotten smashed through a stone wall so hard it broke, and was even punched through a thick castle wall, and yet every time she just got back up and kept going. She doesn’t even seem to care when she gets shot, and just casually walks through gunfire.

Wiz: And when she does take damage, her healing and regeneration allow her to recover very quickly, allowing her to heal in a matter of minutes or even seconds, unless she loses a great deal of blood. And if she drinks blood when she’s injured, her injuries will heal pretty much right away.

Boomstick: Why does everything with vampires involve blood? I get that it’s their food source, but, like, everything revolves around it. Still, I do love it when Selene starts vamping out. Anytime she drinks blood or gets overcome with bloodlust, or if she just gets pissed off, her eyes turn an icy blue color. That’s when you know she’s serious. Or she’s just horny.

Wiz: And upon drinking Corvinus’ blood and inheriting the Corvinus Strain, her strength, speed, and durability increased drastically, allowing her to dodge automatic gunfire. In comparison, another vampire of her level, David, was able to see bullets moving as if in slow motion, and Selene was definitely much faster than him. She could even move faster than Michael in his hybrid form, who could move so fast that he appeared to be teleporting even to Viktor’s eyes. And the increase in her strength made her even stronger than Marcus in his hybrid form.

  • Feats
    • Sired the first lycan-vampire hybrid
    • Helped hunt lycans to near extinction
    • Survived numerous gunshots and stabbings
    • Survived a super flashbang grenade blowing up in her face
    • Jumped off cliffs and multi-story buildings without damage (pre-enhancements)
    • Uncovered several coups
    • Moved fast enough to disappear from cameras and immortal vision
    • Easily dodged bullets from automatic gunfire
    • Fought 100 armed men
    • Crushed a man’s head inside a helmet with a single kick
    • Flipped a moving van several times
    • Fought and killed several lycans and werewolves
    • Effortlessly killed other vampires with her bare hands
    • Resurrected David
    • Became the new head vampire Elder
    • Killed vampire Elder Viktor, vampire-hybrid Elder Marcus, mutant lycan Quint, pseudo lycan-hybrid Marius, the three ancient lycan lords

Boomstick: Which is really saying something, considering the guy was able to lift up a massive stone wall that was in the process of closing, and was even able to yank an entire helicopter out of the sky. And he’s even stronger than Michael, who was able to stop a moving truck in his human form and punch straight through concrete walls. Hell, we’ve seen her run into a moving van and make it flip over three times.

Wiz: But this didn’t just grant her additional speed and strength, she also gained an immunity to sunlight. And since she now possessed the Corvinus Strain, she would also be able to survive bites from lycans as well, and is likely on the level of hybrids in the kinds of injuries they can survive. In the case of Michael, this includes having a metal beam completely penetrate his heart.

Boomstick: I don’t think there’s anything “likely” about what she can survive, Wiz. She’s been stabbed straight through the chest and still kept fighting like it was nothing. Or how about the time she was shot full of grappling hooks, or later when she took a beating from that Marius guy, got impaled, was shot full of bullets, and then was drowned, and still she survived. Hell, she even had some kind of super flashbang or stun grenade blow up literally right in her face, and it only knocked her out, and the blast from that thing was far bigger and a lot more intense than even a regular grenade.

Wiz: As the successor to Corvinus and now a carrier of the Corvinus Strain, Selene can also pass certain abilities to others, and even resurrect them from death if they’re not too heavily wounded, like how she brought David back to life after he was killed by a lycan bite, even making him immune to sunlight in the process.

Boomstick: And after she pops out a kid, for some reason she gained the ability to see through her daughter’s eyes and vice versa. So can Michael since he’s Eve’s daddy. I mean that he’s literally her father, not the whole “call me Daddy” kind of thing… Sorry, that was a bad joke.

Wiz: Selene’s speed and strength are increased even further after she undergoes what’s known as the Var Dohr Sacred Ritual, a process known only to the Nordic Coven vampires that allow them to reach the sacred world they refer to as Valissa, which is a realm between life and death. Signs of those who undergo this ritual is their tendency to develop silver hair, though in Selene’s case she only gains silver highlights, possibly because she possesses the Corvinus Strain, or because she only underwent the ritual once. This ritual will grant a vampire almost supernatural abilities, where they’ll reach higher levels of clarity and understanding that transcends death itself and gain spiritual awareness, allowing them to see into the souls of others, even granting them the power to see beyond time itself to a level of foresight where they can predict the future events of a specific person or someone related to the person.

Boomstick: Yeah, yeah, spirit stuff. Get to the goods, Wiz. Like, if you thought Selene was fast before, after she gets this upgrade, she can move so fast that she’s nothing but a blur to other immortals, including hybrids, and can even disappearing from their sight entirely. She’s even seemingly able to teleport or move through solid objects like she’s some kind of ghost. It even gave her massive increase in strength and durability too, making her even stronger than her daughter, who was able to literally tear a lycan’s head in half with her bare hands like it was nothing. She was also totally tanking blows from Marius when he was jacked up on hybrid blood, and that dude could bend open a steel cage. And then when he decided to taunt her of how he killed her baby-daddy, she turned around, punched a hole in his back, and ripped the guy’s entire spine out! Holy shit, now that’s hardcore!

Wiz: In order to remove a person’s spine in this manner, it would require at least 1,000,000 newtons of force. To give you an idea of what this is like, a single newton is the force of Earth’s gravity on a mass of about 102 grams. So when Selene ripped out Marius’ spine, this was the equivalent of her using about 102 tons of force.

Boomstick: And that’s just human anatomy. Marius was a lycan that was enhanced with hybrid blood. So tearing his spine out like this would have required a lot more force on Selene’s part than 102 tons. And she did that with one hand. But hey, that’s what he got for rubbing Michael’s death in her face.

Wiz: After this, Selene became the new head Elder, and now stood as the most powerful immortal, having finally found peace with herself and with the world, even calling an end to the war between the vampires and the lycans. And she certainly deserved it after everything she went through.

Boomstick: And trust me, there ain’t no one who’s going to challenge her for leadership. Not after all the badassery she showed. After all, she killed several vampires with her bare hands back when she was a normal vampire. And after getting the Corvinus Strain, she killed ripped off Marcus’ wing spike after he stabbed her with it and then shoved it through his head. Oh, and let’s not forget about how she punched a hole into that mutant lycan’s gut and stuck a grenade inside it. And after seeing what she did to Marius, no one, not lycan or vampire, wanted to challenge her, and the poor wolfies went running off with their tails between their legs. Which reminds me, Wiz, since it was actual a vampire that killed her family and not the lycans, how come she didn’t become all vengeful on vamps? And how come she still maintain a hatred towards the lycans.

Wiz: Well, to be fair, she did spend over 600 years hating them and being at war with them. That kind of hate isn’t going to just go away overnight. And in her defense, most lycans do have a particularly violent and barbaric nature, even among Lucian’s pack, so her hatred is somewhat justified. But in regards to her not hating vampires, it could be chalked up to her finally having gotten her revenge by killing Viktor, and likely because she knows what vampires are like, but hadn’t really gotten to know any lycans prior to meeting Michael.

Boomstick: I guess that’s fair. But honestly, it doesn’t seem to matter if they’re human, vampire, or lycan, Selene doesn’t really show mercy to her enemies. At least not the ones who are ignorant, like that group of cops whose asses she kicked, but ultimately spared. I guess she really did mellow out a lot after finding true love. Shame she lost him though. But at least she still has her daughter.

Wiz: Yes, indeed Selene lived a very hard life, but in the end, she was finally able to find inner peace. And in doing so, was able to usher in a new age for vampires and lycans alike.

Chapter 3: Blade

Notes:

(A/N: An examination of Blade's powers and history.)

Chapter Text

BLADE/ERIC BROOKS

Wiz: When walking alone at night, one must always be on the lookout for predators. In this case, that warning needs to be taken in the most literal sense. For lurking on the streets at night are a race of bloodthirsty creatures known as vampires.

Boomstick: But rest assure, vampires need to be on the lookout as well, because they too have a predator after them. And in his case, he’s not looking for blood to drink, just to spill. Say hello to the most badass vampire hunter since Van Helsing himself. Ladies and gentlemen, I give to you Blade!

  • Background
    • Real name: Eric Brooks
    • Age: late 80’s (physically 30’s)
    • Height. Approx. 6’2
    • Weight: 215 lbs.
    • Born: October 24, 1922
    • Species: Dhampir (half-human, half-vampire)
    • Indirect progeny of Deacon Frost
    • Trained by Abraham Whistler
    • Professional vampire hunter
    • Known as the Daywalker
    • Seeks to kill all vampires and human familiars
    • Member of the Avengers
    • Temporary leader of the Bloodpack
    • Former member of the Nightstalkers
    • Has a thirst blood (controlled with his serum)

Wiz: Blade’s story actually goes back to before he was born, when a woman named Tara Brooks was attacked by a vampire known as Deacon Frost, biting her and leaving her to die. Only she didn’t.

Boomstick: And as everyone knows, if you survive a vampire bite, you become a vampire yourself. But what happens when you’re a nine-month pregnant woman who ends up giving birth while you’re in the process of turning into a vampire? Well, that’s when you get a half-human, half-vampire offspring known as a dhampir.

Wiz: Well, technically a dhampir is the child of a vampire and a human, but yes, it’s essentially the same thing. Only vampires call such an offspring a Daywalker since they’re immune to sunlight. This Daywalker was Eric Brooks, a.k.a., Blade, the blight of the vampire community.

Boomstick: That ain’t no exaggeration either. He’s basically the boogeyman for vampires. Can you even imagine what it would take for someone to be considered the monster in the scary stories that vampires tell each other?

Wiz: Growing up in the brothel his mother worked in, Blade had inherited several vampire traits, essentially gaining all the strengths of a vampire, but none of their weaknesses, with the only exception being for red sunlight. Unfortunately, he also inherited a thirst for blood.

Boomstick: But then he met this guy, Abraham Whistler. Not only did he take Blade in and come up with a serum that let him control his thirst, he also trained him to be a kickass vampire hunter. And just like that, the hunters became the hunted.

Wiz: Intent on ridding the Earth of all vampires, Blade had begun fighting them as early as 12 years old. And under Whistler’s guidance, he truly became a force to be reckoned with, and would spend his nights hunting down and exterminating any vampires he came across, along with their human familiars, which are basically humans who work for vampires in the hopes of being turned into one someday.

Boomstick: And exterminate them he does. He even keeps track of them. According to his count, he’s killed 1,182 familiars, and at one point said that he killed 187 of them in a single year, and the year wasn’t even over yet. And while he didn’t give us a vamp kill count, he’s definitely killed more of them than their familiars.

Wiz: But as one might expect, the vampire that Blade truly wanted to kill was the one who killed his mother. Or who he thought killed his mother since, as it turned out, she didn’t actually die, and instead became a vampire, and one of Frost’s lovers as well.

Boomstick: That is so many levels of screwed up. Frost even got her to turn against her son. So Blade stabbed her in the heart and dusted her.

Wiz: See, Frost was obsessed with a prophecy that involved the blood god, La Magra, which required the blood of a Daywalker and the souls of 12 pure-blooded vampires. So after capturing Blade and nearly completely draining him of blood, he was able to complete the ritual and invoke La Magra.

Boomstick: But Blade wasn’t having any of that. Especially since he now had the vamp he was searching for in his sights. But it seems that a literal god was a little much for him.

Wiz: Fortunately, thanks to a new ally, Blade was able to kill Frost by injecting him with several doses of Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid.

Boomstick: Eth… Ethyleny… Ethdino… Ethelmini… Gah! Who the hell came up with a word like that!? Imagine getting that word at a spelling bee, that’d just be cruel.

Wiz: But this isn’t the only time Blade has had his blood sought out by vampires. As a Daywalker, it provided a valuable commodity that they believed was the next step in evolution for their kind. But Blade certainly didn’t make it easy to obtain, since, as you said, Boomstick, he essentially became the vampire’s version of the boogeyman, quite literally causing them to go into hiding more than they already were.

Boomstick: You know you’re a badass when you make an entire species go into hiding within their already hidden community.

Wiz: And Blade wasn’t going anywhere soon, as one on the traits he inherited was longevity and retaining his youth. Although he only looks to be in his thirties, Blade is actually over 80 years old, and for the longest time was considered the greatest threat to vampire kind.

Boomstick: The vamps even tried training a team of assassins, known as the Bloodpack, that were made for the sole purpose of killing Blade. But sucks to be them, because after all that training, they never really got to put their skills to the test, and actually ended up serving under Blade once the reapers appeared.

Wiz: Reapers are mutated versions of vampires that were created in an attempt to create Daywalkers, all of which were failures. And Jared Nomak, the original reaper, began hunting down other vampires and turning them into reapers, which are far stronger and more dangerous than regular vampires.

Boomstick: And Blade killed them all. Along with the surviving Bloodpack once he was betrayed, even cutting one of them in half right down the middle, now that’s badass. Although he did develop a soft spot for one of them, and even showed remorse to her dying. Man, talk about star-crossed lovers. I wonder whatever happen to that Karen from the first movie. Um, I’m saying her name is Karen, I wasn’t calling her one.

Wiz: This wouldn’t be the first time that Blade would team up with others. After Whistler’s death, he would become the temporary leader of a group of vampire hunters known as the Nightstalkers in their attempt to hunt down Dracula, or Drake as he was currently going by, and he would even go on to become a member of the Avengers.

Boomstick: Well, he certainly had the weapons and skills to earn his place among them.

  • Powers and Abilities
    • Human-vampire physiology
    • Superhuman speed, strength, stamina, endurance
    • Immunity to vampire weaknesses (sunlight, silver, garlic)
    • Vampire senses and Supernatural detection
    • Healing and regeneration (accelerated by drinking blood)
    • Longevity and decelerated aging
    • Immunity to possession
    • Sorcery
    • Multilingual (English, Russian, Romanian, Czech, German, Japanese, Vampire)
    • Leadership, tactician, marksmanship
    • Kevlar body armor
    • Expert hand-to-hand combat
    • Various martial arts mastery
  • Weapons – Custom-made acid-etched titanium sword, automatic and semi-automatic firearms, silver stakes, two and three bladed glaives, extendable wrist blades
  • Special ammunition – UV-lights, UV-bombs, silver, garlic, anticoagulants (Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid/EDTA)

Wiz: Indeed, as one would need to be skillful in order to hunt such dangerous creatures. Not only is Blade an expert in hand-to-hand combat, he also knows various forms of martial arts, including Shotokan Karate, Hapkido, Wushu, Shaolin Kung-Fu, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Aikido, Silat, Capoeira, Krav Maga, and Pro-Wrestling, but it’s possible that he knows more. In fact, it’s even been shown that Blade can actually learn how to fight simply by watching martial arts moves. He’s also mastered every marital arts weapon in the world, able to use seemingly any weapon he comes across with precise accuracy, proving himself to have excellent marksmanship.

Boomstick: His favorite though would have to be his personal acid-etched titanium sword. And damn, what a sword it is. And when I say it’s his personal sword, I mean it’s his personal sword. It even has this neat little trap built into it where if you don’t deactivate it, these little blades will pop out of the hilt and slice your hand to pieces.

Wiz: But swords aren’t the only weapons Blade carries around with him, as he’s also known for using a variety of other blades and silver stakes. He’ll also use automatic and semi-automatic firearms with hallow-point bullets that are filled with garlic or silver, both of which are fatal to vampires. Not to mention other custom-made weapons.

Boomstick: Like his UV-bombs he used to wipe out the reapers, or the UV-lights that can fry a vamp to a crisp. Oh, and there’s also that hard to pronoun E-word stuff that he used to kill Frost.

Wiz: Just call it EDTA, it’s an aminopolycarboxylic acid that’s used as an anticoagulant. And Blade actually possess extendable wrist blades containing EDTA capsules that will inject it directly into those he stabs.

Boomstick: Yeah, I don’t know what any of those big words you used mean, Wiz, but I know the stuff can literally make a vampire’s head explode like a balloon, like literally, they’re just pop!

Wiz: Even without the weapons and chemicals, Blade on his own possesses a variety of vampire abilities, such as superhuman speed and strength. He can jump high enough to make it look like he’s flying, even jumping hundreds of feet through the air. He can move faster than the human eye can see, to the point where, compared to him, everything else seems to be moving in slow motion, even allowing him to keep pace with Drake, who has shown to be able to dodge bullets.

Boomstick: Forget dodging bullets, Blade has actually been able to move so fast that he can disappear from sight, even disappearing when in the middle of a conversation.

Wiz: In order to be able to disappear from sight like this, Blade would have to be moving at a speed of at least 38,146 miles per hour. In fact, it’s even believed that he can attack faster than the Punisher. As for his strength, it goes far beyond that of a typical vampire, reaching the equivalent of 10 strong men.

Boomstick: Hell yeah it is! We’ve seen him toss full grown adults clear across the room like they’re nothing. He’s easily ripped the head off another vampire, and has even managed to overpower a vampire Spider-Man. And if super speed and strength wasn’t enough, he’s also got superhuman stamina, durability, and endurance . He can exert himself with maximum effort for hours before he starts getting tired, and he’s withstood being exposed to extreme temperatures and tanked some pretty heavy hits. He’s even been seen fighting after being starved for several days after having his arm cut off. He’s even managed to heal after having his guts torn out.

Wiz: While it is true that Blade is known for wearing Kevlar body armor, which is capable of deflecting bullets without so much as causing him to flinch. Blade has withstood powerful energy blasts or impacts from powerful forces, such as blows from Drake that were capable of leaving craters. He’s survived being caught up in an explosion that leveled a small building, and has even walked away from a blast from Lilith, the mother of all demons, only receiving minor burns and injuries.

Boomstick: That’s right, it’s not just vampires and subspecies of vampires Blade faces. In fact, he can sense supernatural forces, and has even shown to have some sorcery.

Wiz: Even without the ability to sense the supernatural, Blade’s senses are so sharp that they’re more akin to that of a dog or a wolf, enabling him to hear things beyond human capabilities, and allow him to track the scent of his target’s blood from miles away. Even in complete darkness, he retains perfect clarity. In fact, his sense of smell has been compared to that of Wolverine’s. Not even the Punisher is able to sneak up on him.

Boomstick: Which basically means it’s practically impossible to get the jump on the guy. But even if you did and somehow managed to land a blow on him, you better make it count, because Blade can heal and regenerate from injuries in just a few minutes or a few hours if the injury is bad enough.

  • Feats
    • Tanked a shot to the back before kicking down a metal door hard enough to dent it
    • Has jumped hundreds of feet through the air
    • Torn off the head of another vampire with his bare hands
    • Is feared amongst the vampire community
    • Survived being nearly drained of blood
    • Lifted up to 1 ton
    • Master every martial arts weapon in existence
    • Killed countless vampires
    • Killed over 1,182 human familiars
    • Killed dozens of reapers
    • Fought off dozens of vampires
    • Fought off dozens of reapers
    • Killed Deacon Frost while hosting La Magra, original reaper Jared Nomak, Drake/Dracula

Wiz: While he can’t regenerate any missing limbs unless he drinks blood, Wolverine has compared Blade’s regeneration to be almost on par with his own, and if Blade does drink blood, he can heal even faster, even if he’s on the verge of death, although losing limbs would take hours to grow back, even when drinking blood. Although something like losing his head is not something he can come back from.

Boomstick: So it’s a good thing that he’s immune to all vampire weaknesses, like silver, garlic, and sunlight. Oh, and holy items like crosses don’t do jack shit to him.

Wiz: With all these weapons and abilities, Blade has proven to be a powerful force to be reckoned with, and has even been seen facing down multiple attackers at once, be they humans, vampires, or reapers. He’s proven himself to be an exceptional leader of whatever group he’s a party to, easily proving it with his skills as a tactician and having a gifted intellect. He’s also multilingual, revealing that he’s fluent in at least 7 languages, including the Vampire Language.

Boomstick: I’m more interested in the hardcore stuff. Like how he killed Frost while he was housing a freakin’ god inside him. Or how he beat Nomak in battle, and Count Dracula himself in his demon form, even managing to overpower him in his human form, and that guy was a damn beast.

Wiz: Outside of vampires, Blade has also traded blows with Gambit, and as we mentioned before, has fought a vampire Spider-Man on several occasions, even cutting through his webs. He’s shown to be capable of delivering damage to Morbius and Ironheart, has fought on even ground with Wolverine, defeated Deadpool, and withstood attacks from Ghost.

Boomstick: Is it no wonder that all vampires fear this guy? He’s a freakin’ unstoppable beast. I mean that in a good way.

Wiz: It’s even been shown that Blade’s strength will actually increase when he becomes enraged. And based on what we’ve seen of his strength, he’s been able to lift as much as an entire ton, the equivalent of 2,000 pounds, and is roughly strong enough to press 5 tons.

Boomstick: So if you’re thinking about trading blows with the guy, you better think again unless you’re feeling suicidal. Hell, Blade can actually kill a person in 26 different ways without them even feeling it. Now that’s skill.

Wiz: So if you’re a vampire on the hunt at night, you might want to be careful, because with Blade on the prowl, it just might be you who becomes the hunted.

Chapter 4: The Battle

(A/N: The combatants are set. Now it's time for a Death Battle. Let's see who comes out on top, Selene or Blade.)

Chapter Text

THE BATTLE

Blade is crouching down on top of an apartment complex at night, looking down at the city. He suddenly starts sniffing and gets to his feet, then turns around and starts racing and leaping across rooftops.

Down a dark alley, Selene is walking along. With a “Hmm?”, she pauses and looks up, and a moment later, Blade lands a distance away from her at the other end of the alley and slowly rises to stand at full height.

Selene: “I’m in mood for company tonight.”

Blade: “Neither am I. So I intend to fix that.”

He pulls out a gun and points it at her.

Selene: “You’re making a big mistake.”

Blade: “It’s you bloodsuckers who are the mistake. One I intend to correct.”

Selene: “If you insist.”

FIGHT!

Blade fires his gun. Selene dodges the bullets, rolling out of their path, and pulls out her Beretta. She starts firing, but her bullets just bounce off Blade’s body armor. He glances down at it before looking at her.

Blade: “What the? Are you out of your damn mind?”

Selene stops firing and leaps at him. Blade jumps up as Selene punches the ground where he had been standing, her fist creating a crater. Looking up, she sees Blade clinging to a fire escape on the side of the apartment, and she begins shooting up at him. Blade leaps from one building to the next, kicking off the wall, avoiding the gunfire, then lands on the roof.

He whirls around as Selene suddenly leaps up onto the roof as well. He begins firing at her, and she dodges the bullets as she races towards him. She stops in front of him and pushes his gun aside, causing the bullet he fired to go astray, then points her own gun at him. He knocks hers away as she fires, and the bullet wizzes past him. The two begin trading blows as they proceed to knock the other’s gun away and attempt to shoot them, only to have their own gun knocked aside.

Then Blade grabs Selene’s arm and kicks her back. He attempts to fire at her again, but Selene starts backflipping away as the bullets fly past her, then suddenly darts to the side and races across the rooftop. Blade runs out of ammo and makes to reload. As he does, Selene stops running and uses her gun to shoot a circle around her herself, allowing her to drop through the rooftop.

As Blade finishes reloading, he points his gun at the spot where Selene had dropped. Behind his sunglasses, his eyes dart around, and then he sniffs. He suddenly turns around, and at that exact moment, Selene bursts up from under the roof. As Blade turns to face her, he points his gun at her, but she grabs his arm and pushes it aside, pointing her own gun directly at his forehead. She fires, but her gun clicks empty. She tsks in annoyance, and Blade throws a punch, his fist slamming into her jaws, knocking her back. He points his gun at her again, and fires, but she leaps back to avoid the shot.

Tossing her Beretta aside, she lunges across the rooftop at him. He fires at her, and she drops down, skidding across the roof, then standing up straight when she’s in front of him again. His gun points directly at her chest, and she grabs the barrel, but he suddenly fires directly into her at point blank range.

Selene glances down at the bullet wound, then up at Blade. She smacks the gun out of his hand, then slams her elbow into his head, knocking him back, and then proceeds to hit him with a series of punches and kicks. Blade jolts back with every blow, but then suddenly catches her fist when she throws another punch. He drives his own fist into her gut, knocking her back, then begins landing a series of blows on her that start knocking her back across the roof.

She manages to block one of his hits, and then the two begin fighting on equal ground as they exchange blows. As Selene lashes out, Blade suddenly leaps over her head. Selene spins around, kicking out, and Blade catches her leg. He swings her around and throws her across the roof, then makes a lunge for his gun, snatching it up and taking aim. As Selene leaps to her feet, Blade starts firing at her. Bullets rattle Selene’s body and she goes down, filled with bullet holes. Blade stares at her for several moments before harumphing and holsters his gun, but then gasps in surprise as Selene gets to her feet again. She strains for a few seconds, and then all the bullets pop out of her body.

Blade: “Silver doesn’t affect you?”

Selene: “Do I look like a damn lycan to you?”

She suddenly throws her shuriken. They bounce off Blade’s body armor and drop down at his feet. He glances down at them as they start beeping and suddenly explode, and Blade is caught up in the blast. Selene closes her eyes and begins walking away, but then suddenly freezes and gasps. Blade comes leaping out of the cloud of smoke from a hundred feet in the air. Selene turns around just as he comes down on her, and they go crashing through several stories of the apartment complex.

They crash through several ceilings and floors before stopping with Blade on top of Selene. She kicks him off her and jumps to her feet. Blade leaps up as well, and they charge at each other. They become locked together, attempting to push the other back. Blade begins to slid backwards as Selene pushes against him, and he suddenly releases one of her hands and grabs a can from his belt. He sprays its contents into her face, dousing her with garlic, and she pulls back, coughing.

Dropping the can, Blade, pulls up his sleeve, revealing his extendable wrist blade. He lunges at Selene as she rubs at her face, stabbing her in the gut several times with his extendable blades, then jumps back. The empty capsule of EDTA he had injected her with discharges from the wrist blade, and he waits for Selene’s head to explode. He watches as she remains standing with her head hanging as she clutches her wound, but then lets out a hiss as she raises her head and glares at him as her eyes turns an icy blue color.

Blade: “Garlic and EDTA doesn’t work on you either?”

Selene: “Garlic? That old myth? Do you think crosses would work too?”

Blade: “No, but this might.”

He pulls out a pair of silver stakes and charges at her. Selene ducks as he swipes at her, then comes up, delivering an uppercut that causes Blade to stumble back. He goes after her again, attempting to stab her with the stakes. She hops back as he stabs at her, then kicks up, knocking the stake out of his hand, then dodges the swipe of the other stake. He attempts to stab her with his extendable wrist blade, but she catches it and snaps it off, then jumps back as he swipes at her with the stake he still holds.

He throws the stake at her instead as she leaps away, and Selene jumps straight up to avoid it, clinging to the ceiling. She then leaps down at Blade, throwing a punch that he blocks, and he throws her back. Selene lands on her feet, and Blade comes at her, blocking the series of punches he throws, then jumps up, driving her knee into his chin, making him stumble back, then leaps at him again.

He catches her and whirls around, slamming her into the wall and knocking her right through it to the outside. As she falls, she throws more shuriken that embed into the wall of the apartment. She lands on her feet and jumps back, throwing more shuriken at the base of the complex in the process. They explode, and the entire apartment complex collapses, falling into a pile of burning rubble.

Selene glares at the rubble suspiciously and pulls out a pair of daggers, and a few moments later, Blade bursts up out of the debris. He leaps onto the street, throwing several stakes, and Selene uses her daggers to knock them away, then holds her daggers out towards him threateningly, and Blade stares at her curiously.

Blade: “What are you? Some new kind of reaper?”

Selene: “No, I’m a Death Dealer.”

She charges at him, wielding her daggers. Blade pulls out his sword and blocks her attempt to stab him. The two then exchange a series of stab and slash attempts, blocking and dodging the other’s blades. Blade makes a wide swipe at her, and Selene backflips away from him. She throws one of her daggers at him, but Blade knocks it away with his sword. He then grabs a UV-bomb from his belt and throws it at her. It lands at Selene’s feet and goes off, lighting up the whole street. But when the light dies down, Selene is still standing.

Selene: “Sorry, but sunlight doesn’t affect me anymore.”

Blade lets out a frustrated grunt.

Blade: “Maybe not, but I’m sure piercing your heart will.”

He comes at her, wielding his sword in one hand. With the other, he throws more UV-bombs into the air. They go off, unleashing a blinding light as he stabs forward. But when the light fades, he sees that he only stabbed Selene’s trench coat. Selene herself is high in the air, having leapt up and doing a flip over his head.

Selene: “Don’t bet on it.”

Twisting around in the air, she throws the other dagger at him, but Blade deflects this one too and goes after her. Selene lands, but immediately jumps back, landing beside a parking meter. She grabs it and rips it out of the ground, using it to block as Blade swipes his sword at her. She then pulls the parking meter back and swings it, smashing it over Blade’s head, sending coins flying as the casting breaks apart, leaving her with only a metal pole. She then hits Blade with it several more times while he’s dazed, making him stumble back.

Raising the metal pole over her head, she makes to bring it down, but Blade holds up his sword, blocking it. He then goes on the attack, wildly swinging his sword. Selene uses the metal pole to block, their arms a blur of movement as they lash out with their weapons. Blade lunges at her, and she jumps over his head and lands on top of a car. Blade leaps after her, and she jumps off the car as he lands on top of it in her place.

As she soars through the air, Selene takes out a silver grenade and throws it. It bounces across the ground and slides beneath the car Blade is on top of, and he gasps and jumps off. The grenade goes off, and the entire car explodes, creating a wall of fire that separates Selene from Blade. She stares into the fire, searching for any sign of him beyond the smoke and flames. Then she hears the revving of an engine and raises an eyebrow.

A few moments later, Blade comes soaring through the flames on a motorcycle. He’s still wielding his sword as he speeds towards Selene. Her eyes narrow in determination and she lets out a “humph”, holding up the metal pole as he speeds towards her. She jumps out of the way of his motorcycle, and sparks fly as she uses the metal pole to block his sword swipe. He doubles back and comes at her again. This time as he swipes at her, Selene leans back, allowing his sword to pass over her.

Blade turns the bike around and begins circling around her. He repeatedly swipes at her with his sword, and Selene blocks every swing. Taking out a few more shuriken, she throws them at him, but he knocks them away with his sword, and they embed into a wall where they explode. This sends debris flying down on Blade, disrupting his circling, but he doubles back and comes at Selene again.

She jumps up, doing a flip in the air as she soars over him. Upon landing, she pulls out her other Beretta, then turns to Blade and begins firing. He drives along as bullets fly past him until Selene’s gun clicks empty. She lets out a frustrated sigh, but then notices a lineup of other motorcycles parked by a wall. She looks back at Blade as he speeds towards her again and spots one of her daggers lying on the ground between her and Blade.

As she rushes towards the dagger, Blade comes at her. They meet in the middle, and Selene roll-dodges his sword swipe and grabs the dagger, then makes a beeline for the motorcycles. She reaches the first one and grabs hold of it, spinning around and throwing the entire bike with one hand. Blade twists his bike and leans back, skidding on its side, and the motorcycle Selene had thrown at him soars over him.

As Blade brings his bike back up and circles about, Selene leaps onto one of the parked ones. She stabs the dagger into the keyhole, using it to start the engine. She revs up the engine and takes off, with Blade coming up behind her. She glances over her shoulder at him as he catches up to her and swipes his sword. Selene does a backflip to avoid the blade, landing on the bike once more, and resumes driving as Blade rides alongside her.

He swipes at her again, and she holds up the metal pole to block. The two begin exchanging blows with their weapons as they ride along, Blade’s sword and Selene’s pole clanging together. When Blade brings his sword down again, Selene catches it with the pole. She struggles to hold it back for a few moments before shoving it and Blade away. He wobbles on his bike, falling behind her, and she glances back at him before putting on a burst of speed and driving ahead.

Regaining control of the bike, Blade once again catches up until he’s driving alongside her again. This time though, he stands up, balancing on top of his motorcycle. He swipes his sword at her, and Selene ducks beneath it. Then she too stands up and balances on her motorcycle. They begin once more swinging their sword and pole at each other as their bikes continue to drive down on the road on their own.

Finally, Blade swipes his sword again and cuts through the metal pole Selene held, leaving her with only a small stub of metal. Blade stabs at her, but Selene drops back down so she was sitting once more as the sword stabs above her. She reduces her sped, pulling back, and took the opportunity to quickly reload her gun. She then begins firing at Blade as he balances on his bike.

He rapidly swings his sword around, deflecting the bullets, his body armor protecting him from the ones he misses. Selene hesitates a moment before aiming lower, and begins firing at his motorcycle. Sparks go flying as Blade’s motorcycle is rattled with bullets, and it begins wobbling beneath him. The bike goes out of control and falls over, sending Blade toppling over as well, and he bounces across the street, smashing into a brick wall and crashing through it.

Selene pulls her bike to a stop and climbs off. She approaches the building Blade crashed into and holds up her gun, pointing it at the hole in the wall, and waits. Several long seconds pass, and then, suddenly, Blade’s sword comes flying out of the hole. It stabs into Selene’s chest and bursts out her back. She cries out and jolts back, dropping her gun, and falls to one knee.

Blade steps out of the hole in the wall, covered in blood from various wounds, and looks down at Selene. She grabs the sword embedded in her and pulls it out, tossing it aside.

Blade: “Some motherfuckers are always trying to ice skate uphill.”

Selene looks up at him, then suddenly throws one of her shuriken at him. Blade catches it though and throws it right back at her, and it explodes in her face. Selene goes flying backwards, landing in a bloody heap with certain parts of her outfit on fire. Blade does a small victory fist pump, then turns around and starts walking away. He only walked a few steps before he grunting and doubling over. He drops down to his hands and knees as a growl escapes him.

Blade: “Serum…”

Taking out his serum, he injects it into himself. His whole body tenses up as the serum ran through his system, but he grits his teeth and bares it as the effects relieve him of his thirst, leaving him panting.

Once he regains control of himself, he stands up. Behind him, Selene was standing as well. Blade gasps as he detects her presence, and suddenly turns around. He saw Selene on her feet, standing there with her eyes closed. Her hair suddenly grows slightly longer in length and silver highlights appear in it. Then her eyes snap open and she looks at Blade.

Pulling out a gun, Blade fires at her. Selene suddenly disappears from sight, the bullets hitting nothing but air. A blur of movement circles around Blade several times, and then she was suddenly standing in front of him, his gun pointing at her chest. He made to fire, but she grabs his arm and bent it in the wrong direction, then snatches the gun out of his hand and tosses it aside.

She disappears from sight again and Blade looks around. A series of unseen blows suddenly strike him all over his body before he’s knocked back by an invisible force. He suddenly brings up his arms and blocks the next hit that had been coming, and Selene appears in front of him once more. Then he went on the attack, delivering a series of punches to Selene, doing little damage before kicking her away.

She skids backwards, and Blade pulls out his two-bladed glaive. He throws it at Selene and it flew at her like a boomerang, but she jumps over it and lands in front of him. The two began exchanging blows again for a few seconds before Blade’s glaive comes spinning back. Selene detects it coming and ducks. Blade catches it and swipes at her with it, but Selene moves in a blur of movement, stopping a distance away, but still ends up with a cut across her mid-section.

Taking out a second glaive, Blade holds up both weapons, ready to continue fighting. Selene stares at him for a few moments before glancing to her left and seeing Blade’s discarded sword on the ground. She disappears and reappears beside it, snatching it up and turning back to Blade.

Blade stood at the ready, waiting, but didn’t attack. A few seconds pass as they stare each other down. Meanwhile, the hilt of Blade’s sword ticks down. Selene detected the danger a moment too soon, and the hidden blades in the hilt flew out, slicing her hand apart and making her cry out.

Seizing the opportunity, Blade charges at Selene, wielding his glaives. Selene glares at him and, using her remaining hand, once again snatches up Blade’s sword, wary of the blades in the hilt. She rushes at Blade, and the two of them leapt into the air, passing by each other. There’s a flash of light as they cross paths, and they both land a distance apart with their backs to each other.

A moment later, a bloody X mark appears across Selene’s chest as she bends over and gasps in pain. Blade turns towards her, looking no more damaged than when they crossed in mid-air moments ago. Selene recovers and slowly turns towards him, and Blade resumes a fighting stance, holding his weapons out at the ready.

Selene made no move to attack or defend, and simply stared at Blade. Then she slowly holds up his sword, revealing the fresh blood on the blade. A moment later, a red line appears across Blade’s head, and the part of it from just beneath his nose up slides off, and he collapses into a pool of his own blood.

Selene: “Perhaps you should have hunted lycans instead. Then you may have lived.”

KO!

Selene is seen wearing Blade’s trench coat with his sword strapped to her back. She climbs onto the motorcycle before glancing at her regenerating hand and then revving the engine. She then drives off into the night.

Chapter 5: Outcome

Notes:

(A/N: Wiz and Boomstick examine the results and outcome of the fight and why this contestant was the winner.)

Chapter Text

OUTCOME

Boomstick: And it’s the babe with the bite for the win! You gotta love a woman in leather.

Wiz: Being of the vampire race, both Selene and Blade had very similar abilities, which made them almost equal in that area. The difference is in how much greater those abilities were compared to their opponent’s. And while Blade was the more skilled fighter and had a greater variety of weapons, Selene surpassed him in speed, strength, durability, and even healing.

Boomstick: Even when she was just a regular vampire, Selene has performed feats of speed and strength that have matched if not surpassed Blade, and she’s definitely proven to be more durable than him and be able to heal faster.

Wiz: And when we take into account how much faster, stronger, and more durable she became after she was enhanced by the Corvinus Strain, she greater surpassed him. While Blade being able to do things like lifting up to a ton and pressing up to five tons is indeed very impressive, it’s not up to the level of what Selene has shown to be capable of, particularly since she became even stronger and faster than hybrids.

Boomstick: And those guys were able to do things like lift massive rock walls, stop speeding trucks without transforming, and even yank entire helicopters out of the sky. Blade’s got nothing on that. Selene was even tanking hits from Marius while he was doped up on hybrid blood.

Wiz: As for speed, both she and Blade have been able to dodge bullets and disappear from sight, but Selene has been able move even faster. And when we take into account the additional abilities she receives after she undergoes the Var Dohr’s ritual, she’s able to move so fast that not even David could see her, and he was able to move fast enough that bullets from automatic fire move in slow motion to him.

Boomstick: And don’t forget her increase in strength. What was it you said about her ripping out Marius’ spine, Wiz? 102 tons of force.

Wiz: Yes, such a feat would indeed require a minimum of 101 or 102 tons of force, and again, that’s merely the force it that would have been required for a human and doesn’t take Marius’ lycan pseudo-hybrid form into account. This is far greater than Blade being able to lift only one ton or pressing five. And even the clairvoyance and other spiritual abilities she gains would also help her in fighting against Blade’s superior martial arts. But even prior to that, Selene has been able to defeat and fight on equal ground with opponents far stronger than ones Blade just barely managed to defeat, and usually because he had help or some fancy weapon to defeat them.

Boomstick: And unfortunately, none of Blade’s weapons would have been of any special use against her since Selene isn’t like the vampires he’s used to, not even when she was an ordinary vampire. And she’s been able to take numerous shots and stabbings and keep on fighting without even slowing down. Remember, she even survived a freakin’ grenade going off in her face.

Wiz: And it’s not just because things like silver and garlic are completely ineffective against the vampires from the Underworld franchise, as even as a species as a whole, they are much stronger, faster, and more durable than the kind Blade encounters, provided they don’t lose too much blood. But those same rules apply to Blade as well. And since Selene gained an immunity to sunlight after she obtain the Corvinus Strain, not even the weapons Blade obtained that use ultraviolet light would have been able to affect her.

Boomstick: But couldn’t he have just used that, um, E-word acid stuff that he used to explode vampire heads?

Wiz: EDTA, Boomstick. However, like garlic and silver, it’s likely that Selene would be immune to this as well. And even if she wasn’t, it’s fully plausible that the evolution she undergoes from the Corvinus Strain or the Var Dohr ritual would make her immune to it. But even as a regular vampire, there’s no evidence that EDTA would have worked on her at all.

Boomstick: But what about that stuff that paralyzes her? Would she still have a weakness to that after doing that spirit ritual thing?

Wiz: You’re referring to the Nightshade. Yes, it’s possible, even likely, that she would still hold this weakness, but again, the vampires in Underworld are different from the ones in Blade, and the vampires that Blade hunts don’t have a weakness to Nightshade, so Blade wouldn’t even know about this weakness, let alone carry it around with him.

Boomstick: And Blade may not have any weaknesses either, except for exposure to red sunlight, but Selene wouldn’t have a way to use that against him. But being so much stronger and faster than him, she didn’t really need to.

Wiz: Had Blade faced Selene when she was an ordinary vampire, he may have stood a decent chance of defeating her with his superior fighting skills, but once she obtained the Corvinus Strain, his chances of beating her all but disappeared.

Boomstick: And once she went through the Var Dohr ritual and evolved even further, the odds of him winning were pretty much non-existence. Selene had just become too powerful for him to contend with. So, sorry, Blade, but it looks like this time the game that you were hunting was just too big for you.

Wiz: The winner is Selene.
