Chapter Text

Heyaaaa :)

AVATAR FANFICTION WHOHOO

Some information because I always do that before a fanfiction!!

1. TRIGGER WARNINGS: Bullying, blood, major death

2. Before reading, English is my second language, so if you can find any mistakes (also with the Na'vi) please comment and let me know!

3. THIS IS AN OC STORY, not y/n or ships!

4. Everything about my character will be explained through out the story but for that I just want to explain something else: Since Pandora is big, it is possible that other scientists are on different places too. The scientists in chapter 4 are just some people I needed to add for this book! (And the books later)

5. I will not use word for word conversations because it's taking too much time looking it up and sometimes it doesn't fit with the situation.

6. The characters of book 2 and 3 are not in this book (or book2) because they didn't exist yet since I didn't think I'd make more parts! That's why it's important to read every book in the right order.

7. Playlist is on my YouTube account which is linked in my bio (on Wattpad)

8. I hope no one has done this before, soo... have fun reading!

Chapter 2: Prologue

Chapter Text

If the rain doesn't stop when the moon starts to shine, maybe it's time to go. The light might sound like a savoir but it can be more than that. It can die, it can die and with it everything else. It's like a drug and this drug won't let you get away from it. The first taste is bitter.. the last taste is too far away from her.

She reaches for the light, the moon and the water but nothing held her as tight as his hand when she fell. When she fell and nothing held her back she was angry yet so sad. She was happy yet so lost. Maybe the night can save her, because the dark never let her go.

"Blue is my favorite color." She thought but instead she saw green and green as in healing from all the other pain she had. Green as in comfort in the night and the loneliness. Green as the water will never flow.

Chapter 3: Chap 1 - Lo'ak POV

Chapter Text

Packing a few things, I sighed at the sight of my room for the last time. I hoped we'd come back but I also don't think we will. It wasn't sure and I knew that.

From afar, I heard Kiri and Tuk talking with Mom. They were all three not very happy with leaving but dad's choice was made and I don't think it will change again. Not for now at least.

My brother entered my room. I looked up.

"Are you ready?" He asked and helped me grab my things. Of course Neteyam was the one who didn't argue a word with dad about leaving. He just listened and went to pack his things.

Tuk had whined a little while Kiri tried to comfort her and I was the one who didn't want to leave and who tried to keep them from it, with Mom of course. She was quite angry. And still is.

Dad decided to make someone else Olo'eyktan because now that he and Neteyam aren't here anymore, someone had to take care of the Ometikaya, our clan.

If I wasn't wrong, Mother killed that dude that attacked us a few days ago. Mother killed him, he was dead. We saw it in the video. Spider was there, our human friend. He was now being held captive. Kiri was worried as hell about him.

The sky people dudes were Na'vi now, they were Avatars. Like dad. The sky people were here again. And they're looking for us. For dad. He betrayed his race and now they want revenge.

I looked at my hands, they were like dad's. Five fingers. I wasn't like Neteyam or Tuk, I was born with five fingers. I sighed, then Neteyam laid his hand on my head and pulled me with him.

"Come on, bro, we have to go." He chuckled and then we sat on our ikrans and started flying.

The air was fresh, cooled me down. Tuk has been asking when we'd arrive. I was just flying by myself, thinking.

Dad told us where we were going, the water clan. One of them at least. They didn't fight in the war of our Toruk MMakto. My dad. They didn't see the war as theirs even though it was their land too.

I mean, I wasn't even alive back then but still. Mom loves telling us about Toruk Makto, forgetting she was Palulukan Makto too but she loves dad too much to actually shut up about him.

"When are we there?" Tuk whined, Mom stroked her hair and smiled.

"Soon." She answered and kissed her then. I smiled at my little sister. She was annoying but well, I still loved her. Don't tell her though or she'll mock me with it and Kiri and Neteyam too.

We've been flying for hours and it was getting dark. I tried and flew a little bit forward to get to dad.

"How long do we have to fly, dad?" I asked. He turned to me.

"A few days, but we'll get there." He answered, I sighed and let myself fall back again. Stroking my Ikran, I laid back and let it fly by itself. I've been so trained with it that I know how to manage to fly and chill in the back at the same time.

The next day arrived and we took a small break but went back to the way real quick. Dad wanted us to be at the Metkayian clan by next morning, which means we had to hurry.

We already could see the water beneath us. It was big and it seemed endless. I would never admit it out loud but it was scaring me. It was scaring me a lot. The water was dark and endless. It was scary.

After finally arriving at the reefs, I looked down. Some of the Metkayians were walking around the sand and when they saw us they started to gather together. But my eyes fell on a girl, she was swimming with some animal. Her hair was open in curls, her skin greenish and if I'm not wrong she was Smiling. Then she noticed us and used the animal to swim.

We landed at the reefs, I jumped off my ikran and looked around. They all looked at us, building up a group.

Mother reached for her bow but dad told her to leave it. He and Neteyam both raised their arms to show that we came in peace, I just walked quite uncomfortably between them.

We're arrived at our new home..

Chapter 4: Chap 2 - Yana POV

Chapter Text

Training over training. One of my father's friend's son laughed as I fell off my skimwing and let it swim away.

"Not as easy as you thought, huh?" He laughed. I rolled my eyes and splashed water into his face. Then I heard the loud shell call and we both looked at each other and then I looked up. Ikrans.

"I think we should go." My dad's friend claimed, I nodded and we swam back to the reefs.

They had gathered around the Ikrans, I recognized Jake Sully. Toruk Makto. We've heard a lot of great stories about him. His fights and his wars. It was impressive.

I moved some of the Metkayians away and walked up to the front. Jake Sully's children moved their hand from their head down. I did the same.

"I see you" was its meaning. It was an easy welcoming move. Then I got pushed aside.

Roxton and Ao'nung walked past me. I rolled my eyes. They're about to be mean. I can already see it.

Ao'nung, my brother, reached for the oldest son's tail. Then Tsireya pushed them aside. She smiled at me and I walked up to my sister.

"Where were you?" I signed.

"Swimming." She answered back by signing. We smiled and then Dad walked up with mom.

"Jake Sully." He said.

"Tonowari." Jake said back and made the 'I see you' move. I didn't keep looking at what was happening and watched the children instead. Neteyam, the oldest, had his eyes laid on Ao'nung, of course my brother didn't notice but when Neteyam locked eyes with me for a moment, he quickly looked away.

I see everything. And with a small smile I looked at Kiri, she had her shoulders and chest a bit covered with some lilies and looked quite uncomfortable. She rolled her eyes, probably because of something the adults said but I already had more interested in the other kid. Lo'ak, if I'm not wrong.

He had five fingers, like Kiri. He quickly hid them and looked away from me but it didn't slip my eyes how his brother smiled slightly.

Then mother walked up to Kiri, grabbed her tail. Examined it a little. The girl pulled her tail away from my mother, only for her to go and take Lo'aks hand and hold it into the air.

"Demon blood!" Mother said loudly, her lips were moving slowly and her eyes laid on me while saying so. Lo'aks ears lower, he looked down. Everything inside me screamed to go in between but I couldn't, she was my mother.

Jake Sully was one of the sky people, yet he was now Na'vi. He held up his hands showing the five fingers. Ronal let go of Lo'ak and walked back to her mate.

Then Neytiri walked up, Palulukan Makto. I heard of her. She and my mother hissed at each other but at the end dad decided to let them stay.

My dad looked at us children.

"My daughters, Tsireya and Ha'Yana, and my son, Ao'nung will tracy your children." Dad claimed, then he turned around, I quickly followed him and Ao'nung too.

"Dad!" Ao'nung said. He turned around to us.

"Why do I have to?" I signed, he sighed and looked at me and my brother.

"Because they're our guests, they'll stay here for a while so they have to adapt." Dad signed and left. I whined a little but then turned to Ao'nung who was also annoyed.

"Well, let's go then." He signed, I rolled my eyes and we went back to the water.

We showed the kids around, we were swimming at the moment but the Sully children fell behind. We went back up to the water.

"You're too fast! Wait for us!" Tuk, the youngest, said and rubbed her eyes. I chuckled and signed a small sorry.

"We don't leak four finger things.." Neteyam said, I looked confused at Roxto who was with us, as always. He laughed as I signed him what I understood but then he signed what Neteyam really said and I rolled my eyes.

"I can teach them!" I signed.

"How? You can't even hear." Ao'nung said and signed it. I scoffed, feeling Lo'ak and Tuk's eyes on me. I smiled at the girls, Tuk smiled back while Lo'ak rolled his eyes and looked away.

"Anyway, we can still teach them." Tsireya said and signed for me. I nodded. I dived back into the water because I noticed that Kiri was still gone.

She can hold her breath longer than her siblings, she was still under water. I was watching her. She adapted quicker than the others. Something about her was different. The animals were near her, she could touch them and they followed her around.

I smiled and swam to her. She looked at me but then shook her head and kept watching the animals, so I let her and swam back up to the others.

"Kiri is safe." I signed to Rotxo because he was the one who was worried the most. Then we swam back where the water wasn't so high.

"If you want to stay here, you need to ride." Ao'nung said, Roxto signed it for me.

"Maybe phrase it differently?" I joked, Ao'nung tilted his head and scoffed. Rotxo chuckled and Tsireya too.

"What did she say?" Neteyam asked.

"Ao'nung should say the ride part differently." My sister explained but the others didn't get it.

Then I closed my eyes for a moment, feeling the vibrations of Ao'nungs clicking to call the Ilus in the water. One swam to me and I stroked along it. Then I remembered that I still have training.

"I have to go." I signed to Tsireya.

"Training!" She smiled and nodded, then I grabbed my Ilu and swam away. Of course not without looking for Kiri. An Ilu was by her side, it was swimming along her, face touching. I smiled but then I quickly went to my dad's friend.

I jumped out of the water. He shook his head.

"You're late." He signed, I signed a small sorry. Looking a bit around I saw Jake Sully and Dad with some other Metkayians in the water. Toruk Makto will try the Skimwing!

"Do you think he'll make it?" I asked, Laaw'itan shook his head with a chuckle. I noticed that Dad and Jake Sully were looking over to us.

"She is too young but she asked." Dad signed for me even though I was way too far away to understand the conversation.

"Come here." Dad signed and looked at me. I and Laaw'itan, my dad's friend's son, swam over to them. I tilted my head.

"What's wrong?" I signed. Jake Sully looked at me and made the 'I see you' move. I made it back.

"He thinks he's better than you." Dad signed without talking, I glanced at Sully with a smirk.

"Should we try?" I signed back. Dad smiled at me but then nodded.

"Let's check who will ride the Skimwing better." Dad signed and said. Jake seemed a bit nervous while dad gave him the instructions to what to do.

I connected my queue with my Skimwing, his name was Tewagī. I've been trying to get him to be mine for a few days now but he always pushed me down because I wasn't strong enough to hold onto him.

Closing my eyes, I breathed in. He felt different than my Ilu. My Ilu was calm and nice. She was my friend and she tried her best to be careful.

Tewagī felt more wild and aggressive. He was a fighter, a worrier. He didn't want to be my friend, he wanted to fight with me. He wanted to fight by my side.

I opened my eyes again. Dad was ready to tell Jake that we can start. I sat into a more comfortable position but one that will still hold me. With a small glance I noticed that Jake cuffed his arm onto the bracket, where you hold the Skimwing.

"Alright, let's go." Dad said and signed. I closed my eyes and the Skimwing started to swim, first above the water. Then he dived down. Jake lost his grip, I didn't.

After a moment when my muscles felt like they were about to be ripped apart, it stopped and it felt lighter. It was so easy to ride the Skimwing now.

I brought him back above the water and jumped out with him, letting go with my hands and just sitting on it. I saw my dad who was smiling proudly, then I went back into the water and swam to him and Jake Sully. He was impressed.

"That was good." He said, his lips were easier to read than Neteyam's but Dad still told him that I couldn't hear.

"Now, Yana, go back to the others." Dad signed. I sighed, my ear moving down a bit.

"I have to train!" I signed but dad shook his head. So I called my Ilu and swam back to the others.

I saw them sitting on some rocks, doing breathing exercises. Neteyam noticed me from afar but I stayed in the water. Ao'nung wasn't with them. So why should I? I dived into the water and left.

Chapter 5: Chap 3 - Lo'ak POV

Chapter Text

"What kind of training?" I asked Tsireya after her sister left.

"Oh, she's learning how to ride a Skimwing." Tsireya explained and helped me get on the Ilu.

"She's the only one who is training, Ao'nung and I will learn later." I nodded and made myself more comfortable on the Ilu.

Ao'nung and Rotxo and some of their friends were watching me as I connected with the Ilu. It was a similar feeling to the Ikran. It will be just as easy then.

"Swim." I said and got pulled into the water, a moment later the Ilu already left me alone. I swam up and gasped for air. Tsireya and Ao'nung were laughing.

"You'll learn!" Tsireya said and called the Ilu back while swam back too. I sighed and rolled my eyes. I was already way too tired for everything.

"I think we can take a break." Tsireya said and chuckled, I nodded and followed Neteyam and my sisters back to our new house.

A few minutes later we got called back. Tsireya will show us how to stay longer beneath the water. We were sitting on some stones and doing breathing exercises. It was difficult but I think I managed to get it done after an hour that we spent here.

The others were better at swimming and breathing and adapting but I hated it. This place was weird. And the swimming was exhausting, I miss my friends. I missed Spider. I hope he was doing okay. With a sigh, I laid down and let the night come.

Days have passed and we were having breathing exercises and Ilu lessons and sign language lessons everyday. It was tiring if I'm honest but we promised dad to be nice.

Yana was with us again. She showed us how sign language, Tsireya and Rotxo were doing all the talking.

That Yana girl was different from the others. Even though she couldn't talk it didn't seem like she was quiet. She was using sign language all the time. She made comments and annoyed her older brother with that.

Sometimes they tell us what she said other times they force us to find out ourselves since we're learning.

Yana had her hair into a bun, she also had curls like the others. Tsireya explained to me that since Yana is riding with a Skimwing, she had to wear her hair together. It was easier to jump onto the Skimwing if they'd get attacked or just for training.

She also had a different greenish skin tone, it was a bit darker than the green from Tsireya and Ao'nung. She was also wearing more jewelry around her neck and hands. It was weird because it was in the way of her hands, most of the time it at least seemed that way.

I splashed my hands into the water. They all had four fingers. It was easier for them. Kiri of course learned quickly but I couldn't get there.

"Come on, it's okay!" Yana signed. She smiled slightly, trying to keep me motivated but I just couldn't.

"It's not working anyway." I said, rolled my eyes and left.

"No, let him." I heard my brother. But I still heard someone following me. When I turned around, Yana was in front of me. She smiled.

"With five fingers it's actually easier to sign." She said with her hands. Reading was not as difficult as signing myself but I still struggled because I saw how fast she signed with her family and friends and how slow she is signing now.

I looked back at her. She was pretty.

"And how that?" I asked, not signing. Yana rolled her eyes because I spoke. Then she laid her fingers on her throat.

"You.." She started, stopped and waited a moment.

"You have more.." She stopped again. She can speak? Her voice was soft and quiet but it was still a voice you could listen to all the time.

"More ways.. to show.. the words." She finished and cleared her throat. My jaw dropped.

She can speak!

"You can speak?" I asked in shook. She nodded.

"But bad." She said again, then she shook her head. It seemed like it was hurting. Or maybe it was just not something she does often and she feels uncomfortable.

"Please, just have patience." She signed. I sighed but shook my head. Then I left and this time she let me leave.

Dad looked at me as I entered the house.

"What's wrong? Shouldn't you be with the others?" He asked. He helped mom with the cooking.

"Yea, just taking a break." I explained and sat down.

Why couldn't I adapt as fast as my siblings? Kiri for example, she can stay in the water for so long without any trouble while I have to go back every five minutes. It's horrible!

Neteyam was always training with Ao'nung, he learned fast too. He also can already stay in the water for almost half an hour. Only I have to struggle. And they're always making fun of me too. And now the sign language thing too!

I stood up again and left. Just walking around the reef, I noticed that Ao'nung and some others were picking on Kiri.

"Hey! Leave her alone!" I said and walked up to them. I pushed them away.

"Another freak!" Ao'nung said and the others laughed. I looked aside and saw Neteyam heading towards us. He pushed Ao'nung from us.

"Leave them alone." He growled. A friend of Ao'nung wanted to say something, he hissed but Ao'nung backed up. He put his hands into the air and stepped away a bit. Watching Neteyam.

"Back off." Ao'nung nodded a little. Then Neteyam turned around and we started walking away. If I'm not wrong one of them made a comment. I turned back.

"Want to see a magic trick?" I asked Ao'nung while holding my hand in front of his face.

"Look, you do that…" I made my hand into a fist waited a moment and punched him in the face. He fell back

"It's called a punch, bitch!" I yelled.

A moment later, I was on the ground, someone pulled my tail while I pulled the others' ears. Neteyam joined quickly and beat up a different guy-

I looked down as Dad turned around to us. Neteyam and I had some bruises but they're not worse than the ones we gave the others.

"I told you to be nice. Don't get in trouble!" Dad said and sighed.

"Go and apologize!" He said.

"But dad- they were picking on Kiri!" I said back. Dad's face changed for a second. He sighed and calmed a bit.

"Please, just go apologize." He whispered. I turned around and left.

While walking around, I thought about how to apologize when I saw Yana in the water. She was moving her hands around her body only some inches away from the water.

If I'm not wrong, her body stripes were glowing slightly but it also could be only the sun. She opened her eyes and noticed me, stopping her.. whatever she was doing.

I walked up to her.

"Hey." I signed. She smiled and splashed a bit of water on me.

"Hey!"  She signed back.

"Thanks." I rolled my eyes and stepped into the water, she waited for me, then she grabbed my hands and held them up.

"Five fingers, like me." She whispered with a crispy voice.

"What?" I asked. Yana chuckled, then let go of my hands. That's when I noticed the rings around two fingers, they were almost in the exact same color as her skin.

She bawled her hands into a fist and opened them again. She did that for a few times then she held her hands up. Showing five fingers.

"What the- how?" I asked. She smiled and started signing but it was too much and a bit too fast.

"I'm an Avatar, like your dad." She said. My jaw dropped.

"What?" I said and looked at her confused. How was that possible?

Weren't the only scientists in our region? How did she get an Avatar? From where?

"I.. uh.." I started. She looked down and back at me.

"I can teach you sign language with five fingers, if you want to." She signed. I nodded quickly.

We sat into the water. She always tried to whisper the words she was signing. We spent hours on teaching but now it was way easier.

Yana also had five fingers and knew how to sign with them. I learned signing now way quicker and it was easier to know that next to me and Kiri there was someone else who had five fingers.

"I understand your struggles." Yana signed as we finished.

"It took me a while to sign with four fingers. I started using the rings only a few years ago." She explained and smiled. I smiled back and felt happy. I can sign language now! I can speak with Yana! And with the animals!

"Why did you start using them though?" I asked. She looked down for a moment.

"It's easier for me to adapt. The others see me more as Metkayians now.." She explained. I nodded. So she was also kind of a.. Freak? An Outsider. Outcast.

"Anyway, I think we're done! You can go now." She signed and put back on her rings. I stood up.

"Thank you." I signed. She smiled slightly and nodded.

"Of course. By the way, if you're looking for Ao'nung he's with his friends. I saw him before I got here.. and I heard about the fight." She mentioned. I stopped for a moment. I completely forgot that I wanted to apologize to Ao'nung and his friends.

"Oh, yeah. Thanks." I left then and made my way to Ao'nung.

Chapter 6: Chap 4 - // POV

Chapter Text

"She is a child!" Carry yelled while walking behind the other doctor.

The fight about the girl has been going on for weeks. And Dr. Carry, a xeno botanist who spent the last years watching and learning about the Metkayian Na'vi, prepared an Avatar for her but she cannot use it for the girl unless the boss doctor said so.

"She is as good as dead." Dr. August said and turned around to the woman. Her hair in a tight bun, she had her hands on her waist and looked angry at her friend.

"She is right there!" Carry yelled and pointed at the girl that was sitting on a bench, covering her ears.

"She is two years old and she's your best friend's daughter! We have to save her!" Carry tried over and over again but August just left. She followed, she won't give up that child. She can't because the kid doesn't have to die.

"You said, she has another 30 years! What happened?!" August turned around and looked his friend into the eyes. He knew that they had to save the kid but it was too late for him now. He made a decision.

"She breathed in Pandora air, Carry, she is already dead. If now or in 30 years. She is sick and she's dead! DEAD!" He yelled and threw his hands into the air.

"You are so ignorant!" Carry yelled back and pushed him a bit away.

"You were the one telling everyone to save her, so she can be born but now that she's here you suddenly don't care anymore? She is still that same fucking child that was in your best friend's fucking stomach." Carry claimed. How couldn't he see that the kid has a chance to survive?

August exhaled, rubbed his face and closed his eyes for a moment. Then he looked back at his colleague.

"Okay, so.. what if she survives the transformation into the Avatar, what then? We can't have a 6'5 feet tall 2 year old walking around the lab! We can't do that!" August explained, waiting for an answer even though he knew exactly what his friend has planned.

"Ronal and Tonowari." Carry whispered.

"No."

"Yes! They're the only one we can ask!" Carry tried but August shook his head.

The scientists were once caught by the Metkayians and they almost got killed. He can't risk that just because of a little girl. They're work depends now on that girl and that shouldn't be.

"They won't help, they won't even listen!"

"We can try! Please! We have to try, August.." Carry whispered. The scientists sighed but then nodded.

"Five days. You have five days to ask them for help." August warned then he turned around and left.

Carry jumped of happiness, she grabbed the little girl and held her tight in her arms.

"We'll save you, sweetheart!" Carry kissed her head and then put her back down. Then she started to put her things together.

She packed some new clothes, some food and drinks, also a walkie talkie and a weapon. Carry wanted to be sure that if she gets attacked, she can at least defend herself a little. Then she took the exopack and went out.

Carry spent almost two days walking to the Metkayian clan. She arrived and felt quite tired but it was necessary, maybe she should've taken someone else too? But then she remembered that Ronal and Tonowari only talked to her.

As she stepped a foot into the sand the Na'vi already approached her and were ready to attack. Carry put her arms up.

"oe za'u mì nìmwey [I come in peace]." Carry said in Na'vi. The Metkayians backed up a bit but were still in an attack position.

Tonowari walked up to Carry. He was so tall, she looked up at him and made the 'I see you' sign. He did it back.

"What do you want?" He asked in English, which surprised her a bit but she sighed.

"Oe tìkin ngeyä srung si." Carry said, still in Na'vi. Her Na'vi wasn't perfect but she tried.

"You can talk in your language." Tonowari claimed. Carry nodded.

"Okay.."

"Come with me." Tonowari walked to his home and Carry followed the 9'7" tall Na'vi.

To talk with the woman, Tonowari crouched down. A moment later Ronal walked in too. She kept staying. In the back were a kid running around and another one was laying on the ground.

"What do you want?" Ronal hissed.

"A child of ours is close to die.. We have an Avatar for her which could save her life.. but for that we need your help." Carry explained.

"No." Ronal said without hesitation, a quick look of her mate she nodded slowly, showing the human to keep talking.

"She's really sick.. But she is only 2 years old.. we have the chance to save her.. with your help." Carry said and looked at Tonowari and back at Ronal.

Carry understood why they didn't want to do it but maybe.. just maybe, they'll help.

Ronal tilted her head. She was thinking, maybe with a deal like this.. they'll leave.

"If your child doesn't survive the transformation and dies.. you'll leave Pandora." Ronal said and made herself even taller by lifting her head a bit.

"If she does survive you can stay for five more years, to absorb her growth with the.. avatar. Then you have to leave." The Na'vi woman waited a moment. She knew that she had the human where she wanted. And she wanted them to leave. A child was always a way to convince someone.

"Thank you." Carry said. Ronal and Tonowari knew that Carry agreed with those few words.

"In five days, I'll be ready to do the transformation." Ronal said, then she turned around and left.

"Thank you so much, Tonowari, you have no idea what it means to me." Carry said and held back her tears.

"We are gracious with you, remember that." Tonowari said.

"You can bring one more human with you to the ritual." Carry nodded then she did the 'I see you' move and left.

Five days later

Maria, another scientist and a friend of Carry, were bringing the lifeless body of the child and the Avatar in which she already changed to the Metkayians.

They swam to Ewya, the Na'vi's god. Or similar to a god. Ronal laid the girl down, showed the two human women to move a bit. Then they started the ritual.

Maria and Carry held into each other and waited. It was a Strange experience but they'll be fine. Carry prayed for the child to survive.

Ronal stopped.

"She's alive." Ronal claimed after they went back to the air. Carry and Maria sighed in relief and hugged for a moment.

"But I'll take her." Ronal said.

"Oh..?"

"She is now one of us. Eywa connected with her, she's Na'vi now. You two can still stay to absorb her and how she's working in the body but only for five years. Ha'Yana is now one of us." Ronal explained.

"Ha'yana?" Carry asked.

"Yana means 'god is gracious' and that's exactly what Ewya was." Tonowari said and laid his hand on the little girl's head.

"Well, see you in a few days." Ronal said and walked away with the girl.

Chapter 7: Chap 5 - Yana POV

Chapter Text

Waves hit my ankles and I breathed in heavily. My heart was pounding and I felt quite adrenaline filled. Weird..

I stayed in the water for another while and just swam around until it was getting darker slowly.

As I walked back to our Marui, Ao'nung and his friends walked past me. I stopped them.

"Did you and Lo'ak talk?" I signed. Ao'nung rolled his eyes.

"Yes, we did. What do you want?" He asked. I sighed, his friends made him so mean. He wasn't always like that. He used to be nicer.

"Stop treating him so badly, he can't do anything for what he is. Leave him alone." I signed and crossed my arms afterwards.

"Oh, of course you defend him. You're just like him. A freak." Ao'nung signed and said out loud. His friends laughed.

Then Ao'nung grabbed my hands and took off my rings that held my ring and middle finger together. He threw them into the water. I looked down, letting him do it. His friends laughed again.

"What happened to you..?" I signed poorly but he understood because his eyes suddenly showed sadness rather than mocking or anger. My ears laid down a bit and his ears did too but then he turned back into the mean version of him.

"Whatever." He turned around and left with his friends. Left me standing here alone but I let him go.

After a moment, I jumped into the water and searched for my rings but I couldn't find them anywhere. Great, now I have to make new ones..

With a sigh, I went inside our Marui. Dad was sitting there making some new jewelry.

"What happened?" Dad asked, he laid down the stuff in his hands to talk to me.

"I lost my rings.." I signed back and sat down next to him. He smiled a little and tilted his head.

"I can make some new ones for you, if you'd like?" Dad signed and smiled. I smiled back and nodded.

"Good." I let dad have his privacy and left again since I didn't have anything else to do.

I approached Kiri and Tuk, they were sitting in the water. I waved. Kiri smiled a little while Tuk already came running towards me showing some stones she found.

"They're beautiful!" I signed and smiled. Kiri tilted her head when she saw my hands.

"You have five fingers?" Kiri signed and looked at me. I nodded.

Kiri was beautiful. Compared to the others, her hair wasn't braided but open. She also wore it short and not long like her brothers. Also, she always felt a little different than her siblings. She felt familiar.

When I look at her somehow.. She reminded me of Eywa. She felt like home and I didn't even know Kiri for long. She felt close. Like a sister. It was strange..

"How come?" She asked then. I noticed that I lost myself in looking at her and my thoughts about how she made me feel.

"I was human for two years but because I was sick, they chose to use an Avatar on me." I explained easily and smiled.

"That's cool. My dad is also an Avatar! But now he's Na'vi and so are you." Kiri said with a smile. I chuckled.

"Yea, I am Na'vi." I signed poorly. Poorly signing is kinda like whispering, I guess. I sign the words but just not as recognizable as usual.

I sat next to Kiri, Tuk playing in the water with her Ilu. Some fish were swimming to us, Kiri stroked over them with a smile. Her eyes closed.

"The animals like you." I signed, Kiri chuckled and nodded.

"Yea, I noticed that." She signed back.

From afar the sun started to go down. It was beautiful. The stars were shining bright and I felt quite comfortable.

"We should go back." Kiri signed, she also called for Tuk. So we went back a moment later.

I wished I could've stayed a little longer at that moment with her. I wished I could tell her about myself but well, she left.

Staying one more moment, I let the water drift on me and for a second it felt like peace. Like home. Like I belonged right where I was. With a sigh, I jumped into the water and swam back to our Marui where I found Ao'nung again. Alone, this time.

"Where is Lo'ak?" I asked. He scoffed, I think he did. It looked like he did.

"I don't know." He shrugged his shoulders and rolled his eyes annoyed.

"You don't know? I thought you talked? Did you apologize?" I asked, he crossed his arms for a moment before he signed again.

"I don't know where he is."

"What did you do?" My eyes widened a little, tilting my head, I pushed Ao'nung slightly. Don't he dare.

"Where is Lo'ak?!" I signed angrily. If the forest boy gets lost.. oh Eywa.

I grabbed Ao'nung harshly and pushed him before me, walking to Neteyam. He looked up at us confused but I looked at my brother.

"Where is Lo'ak?!" I signed, now looking at Neteyam. He stood up.

"What is with Lo'ak?" He asked. I think Neteyam forgets that he has to sign with me but I learned how to read his lips a little for the last few weeks, they've been here.

Something crossed my mind.

"Is he behind the reef?!" I signed to Ao'nung, he looked away. Enough answer for me. I pushed Ao'nung.

"He could be dead!" I said out loud, then I called for my Ilu, jumped into the water and swam away to find Lo'ak.

As I reached the end of the Marui, I saw something swimming away. Something big but there was also Lo'ak. He looked at me and waved a bit.

"Are you okay?!" I signed and jumped off my Ilu to swim over to him. He nodded

"I'm fine.." He signed back.

"Oh, thank god.. Come on!" I grabbed him and pulled him beneath the water and then onto my Ilu behind me.

We swam back to the others, he had his arms tightly around my body. With one hand on his leg, I held him a bit.

We approached the Marui, our clan gathered together. Before Lo'ak could even say a word, I stepped forward to Dad.

"It's not his fault!" I signed but he shook his head and held his hand up. So I turned around and looked at Lo'ak. From the corner of my eye I noticed Ao'nung and Neteyam.

Lo'ak made a move forward but his dad held him back. Neytiri walked up too. With a 'clawed' hand he reached for Lo'ak, not touching him though.

"No, this isn't Ao'nung's fault!" Lo'ak said, also signing for me. My ears flicker back a bit. What is he doing? Why is he taking my brother's blame?!

"Stop it." I signed but he ignored it. Still signing everything he says though.

"It's not your fault!" I signed, he stopped. Why did he stop signing?! That wasn't fair. Why wasn't he including me! Idiot!

Before he and Jake could walk away, I stopped him and turned Lo'ak to me.

"It's Ao'nung's fault! Stop taking the blame for him!" I signed. It wasn't fair that he gets the anger but Ao'nung doesn't. This boy is some idiot. I shook my head.

"You don't understand-"

"No, I don't." I signed, then jumped into the water and left. I swam to my favorite place which was a bit away from the Marui, hidden between big rocks. There, I sat down into the sand, yet half covered in water.

With a deep breath, I calmed myself a bit. My body started to glow, for now only slightly and as I took another breath I felt the water attaching itself to me like a second skin.. and for that simple small moment.. I felt at peace.

Chapter 8: Chap 6 - Lo'ak POV

Chapter Text

After dad yelled at me and called me a shame to the family, I left the Marui we live in and looked for Yana. I wanted to apologize. I think I've upset her when I stopped signing for her and then taking Ao'nung's blame.

But she didn't get it. She didn't get how it feels like to be called a disappointment or what it's like to feel ashamed for who I am. She didn't get it because her father treated her like a daughter.. and not like some soldier.

I ran between the connections of the Marui and into the beach but there was no Yana. Jumping along some stones I noticed a glowing somewhere between rocks.

What on Pandora?

Making my way there, I recognized Yana. She was sitting in the water, her patterns on her body glowing in some kind of rythm. It was the first time her hair was open and the first time I ever saw her like that at all.

She had her arms next to her body, while her hair, that had a few braided strands and was not as long as the others, was somehow floating a bit around. What was she doing?

I tried to take a closer look but I accidentally tripped and fell right into the water. Trying to get some air because I didn't catch the moment to take a deep breath, I swam back up.

It took me a second but I grasped for air, then I got pushed back by the water. Over and over again, it was like the water was pulling me away from Yana. It was a heavy wave that took over and it hit me harshly.

Then it stopped.

Out of nowhere I now was being pulled in by the water and a moment later I opened my eyes, swimming on top of it and looking right into a glowing Yana.

A small smirk was on her lips. I quickly stood up and stepped away from her a bit.

"Hey." I signed quickly and coughed a bit. She chuckled.

"Hey. Why are you here?" She asked I waited a moment before I answered and just looked at her.

Her wet hair was attached to her neck and curled itself. She had two front braided strands and was wearing her usual jewelry, many rings, many necklaces and some armbands on her arm.

"Uh, just.." I stopped again.

"I wanted to apologize." I finished then and smiled awkwardly. Yana tilted her head.

"You.. you do get me.. better than anyone else does, at least and that I told you.. that you don't, was wrong. I'm sorry, Yana." I signed and looked down.

Her hand grabbed my chin softly and he lifted my head. A smile on her lips, then he moved her hand away again to answer me.

"It's okay, I'm not angry anymore. Let's forget about it." I smiled in relief but then I remembered the situation a few seconds ago and I had to ask.

"How did you do that?" I asked.

"Do what?" Yana stepped away a little, pulling her hair away from her skin and looking away.

"The water thing. I know it was you." I shook my head, to tell her not to lie to me. Yana bit her lips but then sighed and nodded.

"Like I said, I was once human.. and I was sick. Eywa saved me but the water gives and the water takes. So, she took my illness with my human form and gave me the Na'vi body.. but she also took my hearing to save me, so the water gave me itself." She explained and smiled.

"That is so cool.." I signed back. She's like Kiri! Kiri always has been connected with nature on a different level than any other of us. But Kiri does it on accident, most of time.. or at least she says so. I've never seen her doing the connections like Yana did.

"Yea, it is but nobody knows except for my family, please don't tell anyone." I nodded quickly, still smiled. I can keep secrets, and hers was safe with me.

"Can you show me?" I signed and nodded into the water. On Yana's lips appeared a big smile.

"Sure!" She grabbed my hand and pulled me into the water. Her green skin started glowing almost immediately and it was so beautiful.

We were swimming around for now. Just swimming next to each other but from time to time I noticed that something pulled me behind or forward. Other times there were small tornadoes in the water.

We stopped. Yana kept smiling, then moved away a bit.

"Be careful, okay?" I signed. She shook her head with the big smile and nodded. Then she moved her hands a bit in a circle movement. A moment later, her body was glowing lighter and in the water a tornado started to grow.

Holy Eywa..

"Now, come on." Yana grabbed my hand again, without a word, she pulled me inside the water tornado and we got pulled down by it.

The sudden rush surprised me and when we arrived at the end and got spit out again, I looked at Yana with widened eyes. She laughed.

"Come on again!" She signed and gestured up.

It still took me a moment until I fully realized what happened, then I smiled and followed her back up.

"Can I alone too?" I asked. She nodded. I closed my eyes for a bit but then I let myself drag into the water tornado once again. I swam back right after and saw Yana smiling brightly.

"Look!" Yana pointed above the water, so we went back and I breathed in the air. Even though I was used to staying long beneath the water now, breathing air was still better than holding it in.

Then I noticed the dark sky.

"It's about to rain." Yana signed and let herself lay on the water. I did the same but I didn't take my eyes off her.

I was prepared for the rain but it still came sudden and surprised me with its coldness.

With every drop that fell on Yana, the place where it fell on, glowed a little. It looked beautiful. She was beautiful.

"Lo'ak?" She said out loud with a whispery voice.

"Yeah?" I signed. She shook her head, I stopped laying on the water, to look at her but she kept looking into the sky.

"Talk with me.. Loud." She said.

"But.. you can't hear?" I asked out loud. A soft smile appeared on her lips. My eyes switched between her, now, closed eyes and lips.

"Everyone vibrates when they speak… and the water is feeling them.. and so am I." She explained.

How can someone be so.. so close to somebody.. yet so far away. While my thoughts raised around Yana and how pretty she was.. I was more than sure, she was thinking about something else. The sky, or the water. Maybe nature in general.

I admired her. Everything about her. Her small dimples when she smiled. Or her eyes, they were a bit bigger than the others which probably was a programming mistake by the scientists but.. it was Yana's eyes. They were so perfect for her. Just like her hair, a few braided strands, the rest was widely open or she wore it in a bun.

I bet Tonowari was proud of her for riding a Skwimwing at her age. I bet Tonowari loved training with her. She's probably the best fighter he ever saw. I just know she is.

"What are you thinking about? Your heart is racing." Yana said suddenly, her voice grounded me back to reality.

"Nothing.." I whispered. She looked at me and nodded back to the beach. So we swam in the rain back to the sand.

"What happened behind the reefs?" She signed and sat down, facing me. I sat down too but looked away for a moment. I wasn't entirely sure if I should tell her or not.

"Nothing." I lied. Yana tilted her head, she didn't believe me..

"Lo'ak." She stopped. She just signed my name. Nothing more. She knows..

"Your heart is beating fast, you're lying. What happened?" She repeated, so I sighed and looked down and back at her. I guess I have to tell her..

"I got attacked… but a Tulkun safed me." I signed and looked away afterwards.

"A tulkun? Oh.." I looked back at her but Yana seemed to think about something, so I kept still.

"What?" I asked. She shook her head. Confused why she didn't explain herself, I waited.

Again, I was admiring her and how she looks. The hair and the patterns on her skin, her lips and eyes.. Everything about her was so fascinating.

Yana kept ignoring my question and we sat here for a while in silence. It was calming though. A moment of peace, even.

"I think we should go back." Yana signed then, I looked into her eyes.

"How long would you've been here if I weren't here?" I asked and saw how her cheeks slightly went red.

"Until morning.." she answered honestly. I chuckled and shook my head. I knew it.

"So?"

"But if your dad doesn't find you in your Marui, he'll get angry again. Mine already knows where I am." She explained and I mumbled a small 'shit' because she was right.

I stood up and looked down at the girl. She smiled. Then she moved her hand from her head down.

"I see you." I signed back, then I left. And let her stay alone.

Going back to our Marui, I sighed but a smile still grew on my lips. Yana was so cute..

Chapter 9: Chap 7 - Yana POV

Chapter Text

"Dad? It's time for my training!" I signed. He nodded quickly, turned around and sat down. Then he turned back to me and handed me two rings.

"You're already finished?" I asked and smiled brightly.

"Yes, I did. I thought you'd like to have them as soon as possible!" He answered and nodded. I hugged him and put the rings onto my ring and middle finger. The rings fit perfectly and were comfortable as always.

"I'll get the Skimwings ready." He signed then and left the Marui. A moment later Tsireya, Tuk and Kiri walked in.

"We're going to the spirit tree, do you want to come too?" Tsireya asked and smiled. I shook my head and pressed my lips sadly together.

"I have training, sorry. But you have fun!" I answered and smiled back. Tuk looked down sadly and Kiri stroked her head.

"Okay, have you seen Lo'ak?" Kiri asked then. I shook my head again. I haven't seen him since yesterday night but I couldn't tell them that, so I just shook my head. They left again and I went to the training spot.

Usually I train with Laaw'itan, but dad promised to train me too sometimes. So, here we were.

I jumped into the water and swam over to dad and his friend. The Skimwings swimming around them.

"Hello, Laaw'itan." I signed. He smiled. Laaw'itan was only a few years older than me, though he already was with the hunters and swam with Skimwings. I was assigned to mate with him one day. He was nice, I liked him.

"Hey, ready to train?" He asked and I nodded.

"Well, let's go." He helped me on Tewagī. With an eye roll, I slapped his hand slightly away. I felt the vibrations of his laugh and smiled.

Dad joined me on his Skimwing and we were sitting next to each other. I looked at him. Then I connected my Queue with Tewagī and made myself a bit more comfortable with him. Then I closed my eyes and opened them after a deep breath.

"Swim.." I whispered then he started first swimming on top of the water and then he dived down. I held my breath and my hand tightly at the holder.

Again, like the first time, after a moment the feeling of being almost ripped apart left and instead it got easier. It was like swimming, it was like breathing and from moment to moment I felt stronger and I had the urge to fight.

I realized that dad was far behind me and I was swimming faster than before. I stopped and looked back. Dad was sitting on his Skimwing, nodding and looking proud. I swam back.

"That was perfect." He signed, I smiled proudly and chuckled.

"Thanks." I signed back and jumped off Tewagī back into the water. I stroked him, then he swam off.

Dad said something to Laaw'itan and he left. I looked confused at dad but he smiled.

"How are you feeling?" He asked and walked slowly backwards out of the water. I followed.

"I'm fine, why?" I asked. He smiled and nodded.

"Just checking in. I noticed you and Lo'ak are getting close." He signed with a small grin on his face. I looked down, my ears twitching a bit by the thought of the blue forest boy.

"Yea, I think. Why?" I asked. Dad stopped walking and looked down at me.

"I know Ao'nung took Lo'ak behind the reef, and I talked with him about it. He is sorry… But you, I think you are still angry at your brother." He started. I looked down again this time with anger and I think regret grew in my stomach.

I knew where dad was going..

"Yana." I felt the vibrations of his voice through the water at my body and looked back at him.

"I know you two were close. And just because you two are growing apart, doesn't mean you aren't siblings anymore." Dad signed and laid his hand on my cheek.

I felt tears growing. My ears laid back. That wasn't fair. Ao'nung and I used to be best friends.. now he only sees me as some part of the family but not as his sister and it hurts, no matter how badly I want to hide it.

Looking back at dad, he nodded slowly and titled his head.

"I miss him." I signed. He didn't say or sign anything but I knew that he knows Ao'nung does the same…
__

Yana jumped along the connections between the Marui and right in front of Ao'nung. He smiled.

"Dad allowed me to finally ride an Ilu! Can you teach me!?" She signed and jumped happily, her brother chuckled and nodded. Then they jumped into the water and Ao'nung called an Ilu.

Jacha was about the same age as Yana, both 7 years old. She was just as young and just as curious as the Na'vi girl.

Ao'nung helped his little sister to sit on the Ilu girl, then he gestured to Yana to connect her queue with the animal. Yana did that and breathed in heavily.

The Ilu calmed a little but a second later it went almost crazy, though Yana managed to hold her still.

"Now, think swim. But be careful!" Ao'nung signed, Yana nodded and breathed out again. Then she thought swim and she got pulled into the water with Jacha.

She held herself tightly at her friend and even tightened her grip. Jacha swam ahead but Yana didn't let go.

Now they were swimming together and when Yana jumped out of the water on the Ilu, she cheered and saw Ao'nung cheering too.

She swam back and high-fived Ao'nung. Yana jumped off the Ilu and hugged her older brother.

"You did amazing!" He signed and she nodded.

"Thank you!"

Yana and Ao'nung went back to the beach and she splashed water at her older brother with a bright smile. He chuckled and grabbed her, throwing her into the ocean. Yana let out a small scream but dived right inside.

When she swam back up, she saw that Ao'nung was gone and some older Na'vi were walking up to her.

She kept inside the water, trying to feel her brother's heartbeat somewhere in the water but it was nowhere.

"It's the human." One said, Yana felt the vibrations of their words in the water.

"I think you're at the wrong place." Another one said and they chuckled. Yana couldn't move, tears filled her eyes.

She knew she wasn't fully Na'vi. She knew she had Five fingers and not four. She knew.. she was a freak to the others.

"Your brother left." They said and laughed. Yana breathed heavily, scared about what would happen.

One of the boys grabbed her and pulled her by her hand, showing her five fingers to the others. Yana tried to push them away but they were bigger and taller than her and her voice wasn't strong enough to call for someone.

"Demon!" They laughed.

One of the laughing boys got pushed forward from behind. Ao'nung punched him in the face.

The other let go of Yana and tried to help his friend, they all went on to hurt Ao'nung while Yana didn't know what to do. She tried to help her brother, she tried to pull one of the boys away but they didn't until Ao'nung was laying on the sand. His face bruised up.

"Tsmukan?" Yana signed and kneeled down to her brother. He groaned and sat up, pushing his sister's hand away.

"I'm so sorry!" She signed but he just stood up and ignored her. Yana quickly followed and tried to turn him around, so he'd look at her but he didn't.

"Ao'nung!" She whispered with a crispy voice.

"Leave me alone." She read his lips. The girl stopped walking, her lips shaking and her ears laid back.

It was her fault.. all her fault. Mother and father will be angry. They will hate her!

Yana quickly ran back home, she saw her mother treating Ao'nung's wounds, she seemed angry. The little girl sat at the corner and looked through some holes in the leaves. She also saw her father, who was kneeling on the ground, also seeming to be angry.

A moment later, Yana was gone. She was sitting somewhere deep in the ocean curled up into a ball and her patterns glowing.

She hated herself. She hated her hands. Her five fingers. She hated that she couldn't hear nor speak properly. Yana hated that she was so different from everyone. She wanted to be normal. Normal.. like them. Like her family.

The little half Na'vi was gone for days. She didn't care if she hadn't got any food or that she was basically missing. She wanted to be alone..

The nights went on and she looked up at the sky and talked with the stars. With the one that glows the most. She remembered that the scientists who used to be around her all day talked about the moon. The moon on earth.

She named the one that glowed the most in the night sky also moon. It was her moon. Maybe there was a man on the moon who was her friend.. maybe she was all alone.

Maybe.. her only friend was herself.

Chapter 10: Chap 8 - Lo'ak POV

Chapter Text

I was putting some stuff together when a horn was blown and Yana headed into our Marui.

"The Tulkun have returned!" She signed happily. Mom and dad went outside while Yana quickly grabbed my hand and pulled me with her.

She stopped, her hand still in mine, I noticed she was wearing her rings again. We stood there and watched the tulkun jumping around, the Metkayians were swimming with their Ilu to their friends.

"Come on!" Yana said out loud and pulled me with her into the water, she reached for her Ilu and pulled me behind her on Jacha.

I laid my hands around her waist and looked around. The Tulkun were all so beautiful. Yana softly clapped her hand against my leg and pointed at a Tulkun.

"Mine." She pointed at herself and I understood that it must've been the one she connected to.

We swam to her tulkun. She greeted it with the hand move and stroked along it. I swam next to Yana and smiled, watching her being happy.

"This is Reen, he is my soul brother!" Yana explained and swam a bit around with Reen. I noticed that he also had a small extra fin, like Yana with her hands.

"This is Lo'ak." Yana signed then and looked at me. I made the 'I see you' sign as a greeting and received the sound of him back.

"He is friends with Payakan." Yana signed. I told her and the others about Payakan but why did she tell him?

While swimming next to them, I couldn't keep my eyes off Yana. She seemed so peaceful and happy. I've never seen her this happy before.

"Reen knows Payakan. They used to be friends." Yana explained to me suddenly, I listened up and looked at Reen. He made some sounds and I understood them as he agreed with what Yana had said.

Then Yana turned back to her soul brother and told him about the last few months. She told him about her training with her Skimwing Tewagī and she told Reen about me. The night we swam together and also about how her water connection has changed and is stronger now.

Watching them, I started to think about Payakan. He was outcast. The others called him a killer. But what did he do? I didn't believe he was a killer. Payakan was kind and funny. He was my friend.

I swam back up to get some air, then I stayed there and just watched Yana and Reen from above. They were making circles together, Yana showing him some of her new 'power' moves she learned while he covered her from the others. They were truly soulmates.

After a while Yana said bye to her brother and swam back to me. She smiled happily and like she had a small break from everything that happened.

"I'm going to visit Payakan later." I signed as we arrived back at the Marui. She looked surprised but then she looked down and back at me.

"Can I come too?" She asked and smiled.

"What? Sure, I think." I signed in surprised but at the same time I was happy she is going to join.

We jumped into the water, I'm on my Ilu and Yana on hers. We arrived behind the reefs and I jumped off the Ilu and so did Yana.

We swam a bit further away and I waited for Payakan. He swam to us. Yana sighed deeply and I was confused why she had tears in her eyes.

Her hand stroked along Payakan, then she sat on his fin, like I always do and I joined her. Payakan looked at Yana.

"I am so sorry." Yana signed. Payakan made some sounds but Yana shook her head.

"I thought I could help but I didn't, I made everything worse. I'm so deeply sorry for what happened." Yana signed with tears running down her cheeks.

"What happened?" I asked and looked at both Yana and Payakan. Yana looked down.

"The reason why he's seen as outcast.." Yana signed, then we decided to ask Payakan and we dived down.

"Can I come too? Yana signed to the tulkun, he made some sounds again, I figured he said yes. Then he opened his mouth. I locked eyes with Yana. She nodded, so I swam before Yana and she followed.

The moment it got dark, her skin started to glow a bit, I noticed I was glowing slightly too. Then the inside of Payakan lightened up. We swam deeper into Payakan's mouth until we reached the Tsaheylu.

"Lo'ak.." Yana started, I looked at her.

"If you connect with him, you two are soul brothers." She explained and smiled.

"It means.. you'll be one of us. It means you will be Metkayian." Yana signed, I looked down but then I nodded and connected my queue with Payakan.

The tulkuns were in panic, They were crying in pain and shock. There were ships, Skypeople ships. They were shooting at the tulkuns and some Metkayians.

Blood was in the water and bombs were flying around. They had some of the tulkun captured. The Metkayians were dying, sinking down.

A bomb hit Payakan, it ripped his arm off. He was in pain and he yelped for help. From afar he could see a small girl, she swam around in panic, she was lost.

"You have to go! Try to leave!" The little girl signed, tears running down her face. She was also bleeding, her arm had a wound.

"Please, go! Leave!" She signed to Payakan.

I snapped back and looked at Yana. She had tears in her eyes again. We were holding hands and I breathed heavily.

We swam back out of Payakan's mouth. I quickly went to hug him.

"It's okay." I stroked him and he closed his eyes. Yana watched us, I held out my hand for her. She smiled and hugged Payakan too.

"It's not your fault." I mumbled to both Payakan and Yana. She tried to help them.. but it wasn't her clan, how did she know? I have to ask her later because she seemed younger than now when it happened. So I guessed, it has been a while.

We were sitting on Payakan's fin. Still spending time with him, just sitting with him, so he wasn't alone.

I softly grabbed Yana's arm and looked for a scar which I found beneath some jewelry. I stroked over it with my thumb.

"It doesn't hurt anymore." Yana signed and smiled a bit.

"We should go back, we have to tell my dad that you connected with Payakan.." Yana signed. I grabbed her hands, stopping her from singing.

I looked at her hands, her rings. My stomach hurts as I looked at them. Why was she still hiding when now she wasn't alone anymore? I was here with Five fingers. And Kiri too. And my dad too.

"Why are you hiding..?" I mumbled, not intending to let her know what I said but she did. She took her hands out of mine.

"We should go back." She signed again, then she jumped into the water and I followed her after saying goodbye to Payakan.

Yana and I followed Tonowario into the Marui. Ronal pushes me in. Then she walked forward and pointed at her daughters and Ao'nung.

"You allowed this! You allowed him to bond with the outcast!" Ronal yelled and signed a bit for Yana.

"Mother-" Yana tried but she shushed her down. Then Tonowari looked at Yana.

"Yana. You disappoint me, daughter." He said and signed. Yana looked down, her ears laid back and she had a shaking chin. Then Tonowari looked at me, and behind me. I looked back a a bit and saw my parents walk up.

"And you are the son of a great warrior!" He said, pointing at me.

"He saved my life, sir. You don't know him." I defended Payakan. Tonowari nodded.

"Sit." He said and pointed down. I looked at him, he repeated himself softly and I sat down.

"SIT DOWN!" He yelled, Yana flinched together and sat down next to me. Tsireya too and Neteyam and Ao'nung sat down slower.

Tonowari explained how the Tulkun were before, how they were fighting, killing.

"Payakan is a killer and so he's outcast." Tonowari said then.

"Im sorey but you are wrong, sir." I said back. Mother grabbed my hand for a moment.

"You are speaking with the Olo'eyktan!" She said and Ronal hissed at me.

"I know, I know-" Dad interrupted me.

"That's enough!" He said. I waited a moment. My eyes met Yana's, she nodded slightly. She wanted me to say what I think.

"I know what I know." I said, dad grabbed me and pulled me with him. Yana jumped up but I shook my head and she stayed.

"Yana, don't." I heard Tonowari say. I looked back a bit, she was signing energetic and tried to tell her dad what happened but he looked away.. She stomped her foot and turned away, leaving.

I was in the water, swimming deep in the ocean. From afar I noticed Lo'ak in at the surface of the water. He was laying and looked up.

Swimming up, I pulled Lo'ak beneath the water. He panicked for a moment but when he saw me I chuckled and he rolled his eyes with a smile.

"Are you okay?" I asked, he nodded but didn't seem to want to tell me more. So, I let him.

Suddenly my chest felt like it was being squeezed together. I gasped and tried to get air.

"Yana?!" Lo'ak said and grabbed me. Tears filled my eyes and I held Lo'ak's arm for support. My breath fastened and I looked around panicking.

"What's wrong?" He asked, I let go of him and swam to the Marui. Lo'ak followed me. I couldn't answer him, everything inside me felt like it was on fire.

"Mother!" I called out loud, mom turned to me, I had tears in my eyes and grabbed her arm.

"Roa.." I whispered, mom tilted her head confused.

"The skypeople.." I said with a shaking, small voice. Mother's eyes widened and she called for her Ilu. Grabbing Lo'ak, I also called for Jacha and pulled Lo'ak with me.

"Where are we going?!" He signed, I looked at him.

"The skypeople attacked my mother's sister.." I signed back. Lo'ak looked down.

From afar I noticed the others following too, I guessed the others know now. We swam into the ocean.

Mother jumped off her Ilu and swam to her sister. I stayed on my Ilu, Lo'ak's arms wrapped around my waist. I leaned back a bit.

We went back after my mother decided to. Our clan gathered together. I stood next to Laaw'itan now because Lo'ak and his brother, Neteyam, were surrounded by us.

Our clan started to yell until Jake Sully grabbed one of the harpoon that were used to kill the Tulkun. Jake held it up into the air.

I jumped away from it a bit like the others. I knew that those things were, I knew what they did and I knew it will kill the animals.

"Dad.." I signed but he didn't react to me so I stood there and watched.

"Warned your tulkun!" Jake said and I think he added something more which made the clan flinch back.

Trying to find Lo'ak in the crowd, I saw Neteyam running away, so I also made my way away from my clan.

I got pulled back, Laaw'itan grabbed my arm and looked at me.

"I have to." I signed without waiting for his argument, he sighed but then he let go, I smiled apologizing and left for Lo'ak and Neteyam.

I saw Neteyam and Lo'ak fighting, then Lo'ak jumping into the water. I called my Skimwing because he was faster than my Ilu, while grabbing my spear and wrapped it around me, so it was attached to my back.

As I jumped into the ocean, I felt my dad calling my name but I ignored it and followed Lo'ak as fast as I could.

I stopped Lo'aks Ilu before he could cross the reef. He looked at me.

"Let me help." I signed, he nodded, then we swam to the surface of the water. I jumped of my Skimwing and told Tewagī to go back and help the others.

Lo'ak helped me then to sit on his Ilu. He looked at me and I grabbed his hands.

"I have to warn Payakan." He said. I nodded and smiled, feeling tears in my eyes.

"We will but-" I stopped and gasped. Lo'ak tilted his head but as we locked eyes he knew what was going on.

"They have him.." He whispered, with a small nod he told his Ilu to go and we swam as fast as possible to Payakan.

From behind me, I saw the others coming too. Lo'ak and I were already on Payakan's back trying to pull the harpoon out. I looked down at Ao'nung and the others. I held  my hand out for my brother, he smiled and then I helped him come onto Payakan.

Netyam stayed at the fin and tried from there.

"What do we do?" He asked and looked at us. I jumped into the water because the water helped me hear and understand him.

A strong vibration hit me and I jumped back on Payakan looking around and saw the ship that heading towards us.

"Lo'ak!" I called out, the siblings looked at me. I pointed at the ship.

"We need more time." He signed. I shook my head. I knew what he wanted me to do but I couldn't.

He grabbed my arm and jumped with me into the water. Neteyam complaining about what we were doing  but we ignored him.

Lo'ak held my hands and I held his.

"Stop hiding." He said and smiled hopefully. Then he took off my rings, my hands were shaking a bit.

"Oel ngti kameie." He said, he kissed my hands. He intertwined our fingers. We locked eyes and I nodded back at him.

"Oel ngti kameie.." I whispered back.

"We need you, you got this, Yana." He kept saying over and over again. I nodded and closed my eyes, reaching for the feeling I had when I was with Tewagī. The feeling to fight.

"Help the others." I signed, then I dived down and let the water consume me a bit.

The vibrations of the ship were stronger now but I was more powerful. My body started to glow and I focused on the warmth of it, instead of the coldness that came with the water.

I moved my hands away from my body over and over again, the waves got bigger and bigger and the vibrations of the ship started to weaken. I kept going on like this for a while until I felt different vibrations. Smaller ones, faster.

Quickly, I jumped back on Payakan. Neteyam grabbed the harpoon and finally, they got it out of Payakan's arm.

"Go!" Everyone started to swim away on their Ilus, Lo'ak reached out for me and I grabbed his hand and pulled myself behind him.

We hid between the plants, Lo'ak holding on me by my thigh while I had my arms around his stomach.

"Someone is coming.." I signed then. Lo'ak looked at me.

"We need to go!" I signed. We started swimming again, trying to escape the chasing boats.

Kiri lost Tuk. I let go of Lo'ak, he looked back but I shook my head then I grabbed the little girl and hid us as the smaller boats approached and started chasing us Even more

"Stay here." I signed and stroked the little girls hair. She nodded and I carefully looked around. Nobody has noticed us yet. Then I went back to her and held her near me.

Some of the Ilu swam away and I saw the boats swimming around, coming closer to us. I grabbed Tuk's arm.

"Hold on tight." I signed with one hand, she nodded. Then moved my hand a bit and made a small tornado. It was right in the way of the boats but we'll be fast enough to cross to the other side.

I held Tuk before me and swam into the tornado, then we got pulled by it and we slid inside it to the other side where we could hide better.

Someone appeared and Tuk screamed out a bit but it was just Lo'ak.

"Tuk!" He said, when he saw me he smiled. Tsireya also came and I grabbed her hand, squeezed shortly. She squeezed back. It was a small sign that we're fine.

Then Lo'ak took my hands and kissed them again.

"You okay?" I nodded, we saw some light and decided we had to go. More boats surrounded us.

"Go!" I pushed Tsireya, Lo'ak and Tuk a bit forward, trying to get more time I created a tornado again and made one of the boats go into a different directions.

Lo'ak grabbed me then and pulled me with him, we swam quickly but the boats were faster. A net was shot and we got pulled inside it, Lo'ak and I got out but my sister and Tuk were still captured.

The boat pulled them along, Lo'ak followed but I stayed. He looked back at me.

"I'll find our brothers and Kiri!" I signed, he nodded. I swam back and looked around but I couldn't find anyone.

Then I saw Payakan swimming around, making a mess. He was upset. I looked over the water and saw my sister, Tuk and Lo'ak on the ship. A gun on his head.

Suddenly I heard something behind me and when I turned around an Akula was right in front of me. I tilted my head a bit it followed me.

"Oel ngti kameie." I moved my hand from my head down. The Akula swam sideways to me. Revealing where I can connect with it.

I grabbed my queue and connected with him. I felt a heating range inside me. Then I started swimming with him. I jumped out of the water.

I yelled as the Akula grabbed some of the scientists while jumping above their heads. We dived back into the water. He ripped the human apart. The range inside me grew more and more.

They killed my friends, they're threatening my friends and my forest boy. They don't deserve to live.

With the next jump, I let go of the Akula and jumped on the boat. I grabbed my spear and held it protectively in front of me.

"You again." One of the scientists said and pointed his gun at me. I smirked.

"Me again." I hissed then. It was easy to read his lips even through the mask.

"Don't shoot!" He yelled then, the skypeople looked at me, still pointing their weapons at me. The doctor nodded towards me and some, without weapons, walked up to me. I didn't hesitate to cut off their throat right here and there.

With widened eyes, I held my, now in blood covered, spear. From aside I saw Neteyam and Ao'nung swimming, looking at me.

With a call from me, I waited a moment the clicking of the weapons were synchronized and the moment the vibrations started, I jumped off the boat, the Akula swimming right to me, I grabbed it and swam to the bigger boat.

Payakan helped a lot, most of the people on the ship were in the water and because I distracted the scientists, they didn't have enough time to realize a tulkun was with us.

Neteyam jumped off his Ilu and on the ship, I did the same with my akula but used the water to get me up.

Tsireya and I hugged for a moment and Tuk hugged me too. When Neteyam freed his little brother, he stroked his hair and laughed, Lo'ak didn't take his eyes off me though.

With my spear in my hand, I gestured Tsireya and Tuk to leave but Tsireya stopped me.

"You can't go, it's too dangerous!" She signed.

"I have a weapon, I'll be fine." I signed back, stroking my sister's cheek. She nodded, then she took Tuk and they jumped into the water.

"Where to go?" I asked. Lo'ak smiled, took my hand, kissed it. Neteyam looked between us, then he grabbed a gun.

"We have to find a friend." Lo'ak signed. I nodded and we ran inside. The Avatars were shooting around. I held my spear up, jumping around the ship as if it was nothing, I attacked the skypeople.

Lo'ak and Neteyam ran and find a boy. He was also human. I looked confused at the brothers.

"He's a friend." Lo'ak signed but as the next fire was starting, we hid. I looked at the human boy. He was tall for his kind, especially because he seemed to be a teenager, like us.

I held my spear with the wood against the Boy's chest and held him close against the wall, so he was safe.

He looked terrified at me. I eyed him from aside, then Neteyam pointed us to go.

We jumped into the water, I felt the vibrations of the shots. Diving into the water, I watched out for Neteyam while Lo'ak and the human boy were happily cheering. The moment Neteyam appeared, I held my hand at his chest, feeling warm blood on my skin.

"I've been shot.." Neteyam said, Lo'ak's face fell. He pulled his brother onto the Ilu and also pulled the boy on it.

"Move." I said, moving the boy away, holding Neteyam close to me. I laid my hand on his chest.

"Go!" I yelled, Lo'ak made the Ilu start swimming. The human boy looking confused at me.

We arrived at a big rock. Neytiri and Jake were there too. They tired to pull her older son on the stone but I grabbed Neteyam's shoulder and held him in the water.

"Let me help!" I called, Lo'ak shook his head. Neytiri screaming, the vibrations of her scream were heavy and strong.

Neteyam was laying half in water half on the stone. The two parents sat down and held their son.

"Dad.. I want to go home.." He whispered. Tears filled my eyes.

"No, no.. stay here." I whispered and sniffed. Jake and Neytiri were talking. I didn't care that the others saw me now.

My body was shaking, my skin was glowing. Lo'ak looked at his bloody hands while I reached into the water.

"Please, eywa. Let me help him how you helped me." I whispered.

"Please, let me help him. Let me heal him how you healed me. Rutxe, srung si, tung oe srung! [Please, help, let me help!]" I said and cried out.

I placed my hands on Neteyam's chest, on his wound, water was running down my fingers into his wound.

"Rutxe!" I cried out, my head down, I laid my forehead on my hands that were on Neteyam.

"Oe tsun srung! [I can help!]" I cried.

"Yana.." Lo'ak laid his hands carefully on my legs but I shook my head. I can't just let him die. I can't. No, I can't. I CAN'T!

I let out a scream and breathed in again, focusing on the water on my skin. Feeling my sister's hands on my head, I looked up at her. She had tears in her eyes, running down her cheeks.

"You tried.." She signed but I shook my head. I can't let him die. No, no, no. I can't let him die.

Ewya gave me those powers, she healed me, she helped me, she saved me. Those powers should help and heal and save others too! It has to be. I can't let Neteyam die. No!

My hands were still on his chest, I breathed in and out, calming myself. Neytiri and Jake left. Tsireya and Lo'ak looked at me.

I wanted to join them..

Suddenly Neteyam's chest moved. One time. And a second time. And a third time. His eyes fluttered. Tsireya looked at me and I looked at her.

He didn't stop breathing but he didn't open his eyes, he didn't move but he kept breathing.

I gasped and held my blood covered hands over my mouth. Then I turned to Lo'ak. His eyes a widened and tears were running down his cheeks. I hugged him.

"He's alive.." I whispered. Neteyam was alive, he was breathing.. but he didn't wake up. But be was alive. He was alive, that's all that counted.

Neteyam was breathing.

"Come with me." I signed. Lo'ak tilted his head but then he shook it.

"Fight by my side." I signed but he refused. I nodded, called for the Akula and swam to the ship.

It was on fire, sinking. I swam beneath it, to the place where Neteyam was shot. I saw Kiri. Leaving the water a bit, she noticed me and smiled. I signed her to keep quiet and jumped off the akula.

"Go, they're in the water." I signed him, he growled slightly and disappeared while I climbed up. The Avatar man noticed me and started shooting but I was faster and dived back into the water.

Shit.

Swimming around, I found a place to go on the ship. With a few quick moves, I've killed the few skypeople that were in the way.

With the spear in front of me, I walked slightly crouched down and looked around. They'll see how bad a Na'vi can be.

Neytiri saw me and almost shot me but then she recognized me and nodded. I did the 'I see you' sign. From behind her was one of the avatars, so I jumped and pushed my spear right through them.

Neytiri turned around and held her bow out.

"I know where Kiri is." I signed, her eyes widened, I knew she was on a rage trip. I didn't tell her that Neteyam was alive because I had the same range as her.

Those monsters killed my friends. They hurt me and my family. They hurt Neteyam and with it, they hurt Neytiri. She was Palulukan Makto, and I was Akula Makto. We were strong and we were able to kill.

With a nod, we attacked again. I went for the human, she for the Avatars. Then we arrived at the spot where Kiri and Tuk were being held.

"Yana!" Jake said and walked up to me. I nodded.

"I'm fine." I signed and held my spear behind me, to show I won't hurt him. He sighed and I could basically hear his thoughts. Tonowari will kill him if I get hurt.

The human started talking, I crouched down a bit, holding my spear into his direction but Jake held out a hand, so I didn't go further but I stayed in my position.

"I will free you." I signed with one hand to Kiri. She nodded. Then I jumped forward, both men, Jake and the other didn't have a gun anymore because it didn't have any more fire.

While fighting I was making sure to watch out for them. And it was exactly how I wanted. I cut Kiri ropes or what it was and freed her but the Avatar man grabbed her and held a knife against her throat.

I held my spear up, ready to kill him but Kiri shook her head slightly, so I walked back.

Neytiri screamed. From behind me I noticed the human boy. I turned my spear, so the side without the dagger was now the one facing others, I pushed the human boy towards Neytiri. She grabbed him, also holding a knife against him.

"A son for a son." She said, the vibrations of her voice were strong, as always. I stepped back a bit and turned my spear back to its right position.

The range I felt before is leaving slowly. Breathing heavily, I looked around, to be sure that nobody was here anymore.

Neytiri cut the boy and the man let go of Kiri. She jumped away and I grabbed her hand, pulling her to me. Neytiri nodded to me, I nodded back.

"Are you okay?" I signed. Kiri nodded and we hugged but then she looked at the human boy and they also hugged. I could see that she liked him, she trusted him.

Jake shot the man, Neytiri was ready to fight again but Tuk's call for her mom distracted her. The mother turned around and they hugged.

The human boy looked for the man, I grabbed Kiri back to me and held her close to me. She looked confused at me.

"I don't trust him." I signed. She looked down, letting the boy leave. The ship suddenly moved, Tuk fell into a side thing, Neytiri screamed her name and followed.

I looked around, seeing Lo'ak on his Ilu. I waved quickly when I heard a gunshot again. I flinched down, pushing Kiri forward.

"Go!" I yelled with my crispy voice. She jumped into the water to her brother while I called for the Akula again.

He jumped out of the water right next to the siblings, I jumped off the ship and connected my queue with him mid air. Then we dived into the water.

"One last fight." I signed to Lo'ak, he shook his head but I swam back to the ship, looking for the human boy.

The akula helped me to get on the other side quickly, then I jumped off it again. This time, he stayed and waited for me.

With my spear holding in front of me, I looked around. The human boy faced me with a knife in his hands.

"I don't want to fight you!" He yelled, we were half in the water, I could feel his vibrations clearly. I hissed.

"You are an Avatar." He said then and saw my five fingers.

"I will get one too, maybe!" He said and tried to befriend me. But I hissed again.

He was with that man. With the Avatar. He was with the ones that killed my mother's soul sister. He was there.

"Don't hurt him!" I looked to Lo'ak. He was jumping onto the ship and held out his hands. As he reached me, he tried to grab my hand but I moved away.

"You trust him?!" I signed. He nodded.

"He's like a brother to me, please. Let's go. They're fighting, the ship is sinking. Yana, let's leave." Lo'ak signed and talked out loud. I looked over to the boy and back to Lo'ak who was still holding his hands out for me to hold.

"Because I trust you." I looked at Lo'ak, then I lowered my spear. From behind me I heard someone, I turned around and threw my spear.

It hit the human into the head. The man had his gun up and had it pointed at us. Lo'ak and the human boy looked at me with widened eyes.

"I'll come after." I signed and jumped on the Akula. With a hiss at the boy I swam back to the rock where Neteyam and my sister were.

"Oel ngti kameie." I signed at the animal as I stepped off it. Tsireya hugged me, I hugged her back and looked at Neteyam. He was still breathing. Still alive.

Breathing heavily, Tsireya took my hand and we sat down. She rubbed her thumb over my hands and I calmed down. My shaking body calmed.

"Thank you." I mumbled, then let go of her hands. And we laid our foreheads together.

"It will be okay." She whispered.

We waited for the others to come back. The sun started to rise again as they arrived here.

Neytiri saw her oldest son breathing and gasped in relief. She looked around. I stood up.

"He didn't wake up but he's alive." I signed to her. Tears ran down her cheek. Kiri cried too and Tuk hugged her brother.

The human boy was with them and Jake hugged him and Lo'ak.

"A son for a son." He said, then we went back home.

Chapter 12: Epilogue pt. 1 - Lo'ak POV

Chapter Text

Ronal and Tonowari showed us where they laid Neteyam, it was close to their Marui, closed though. Nobody but us and them can enter the Marui until he's awake.

Yana and I held hands, as dad talked with Norm about the Avatar for Spider.

I've introduced Spider to Yana but she was still not sure, I didn't try to convince her otherwise. Yana had a good intuition, she was smart and strong.

She told me about the Akula, she told me how he was the one who approached her and that he wanted to help her.

Mother was impressed by that and told her that she once was in the same position with the Palulukan.

I loved seeing mother and Yana together, they were closer than usual and even though Yana was also an Avatar, she fully trusted her. Mother even told me not to mess up with Yana.

Yana pulled me with her and we went for a swim. She didn't smile and I had the feeling it was something bad.

"I don't have my powers anymore." She signed and looked at me.

"That's sad but.. I don't think you need them anyway." I signed back and smiled. Yana tilted her head in surprise and smiled then too.

"You are an incredible fighter, Yana." I told her and smiled. Then I grabbed her hands.

Holding them together, I kissed her knuckles and looked back at her. She chuckled and intertwined our hands together.

"Oel ngti kameie." She whispered, I pulled her to me and closed my eyes as we hugged.

"Oel ngti kameie." I whispered back into her ears. She could feel the vibrations in her body, she could feel what I feel, I know she does.

"Lo'ak!" My dad called from afar, we stepped apart and looked around.

"Let's go back." Yana signed, I nodded and we swam back to the others. They were gathered together. Yana's family and mine.

"What's wrong?" I asked. Norm smiled slightly.

"Neteyam is in a coma. Jake told me how he survived," Norm looked at Yana, she stepped out of the water and straightened her back.

"Thank you." Norm signed and nodded. Yana nodded back and smiled slightly.

"Also, Yana," Norm started.

"Carry has been with us for a while, she is proud of you." He said and I thought about the scientists we had. Carry.. She was a female doctor.

"Tell her, I say thank you." Yana signed, I translated for Norm because Yana was signing too fast.

Our scientists left again and Yana and I went back on a swim together. Dad has warned me too, I should not mess up with her. Dad also warned me not to connect with her until we're both adults and honestly, I haven't even thought of that!

Chapter 13: Epilogue pt. 2 - Yana POV

Chapter Text

Opening the leaves in front of Neteyam's Marui, I saw my brother sitting there. He was holding the forest boy's hand.

Ao'nung didn't even look back, he kept sitting there as I approached him and sat next to him. He looked down and then at me.

"You miss him, don't you?" I asked. Ao'nung nodded.

"You were close, I saw you two." I claimed, he nodded again but then he sighed and looked down and back at me.

"I'm sorry." He signed after letting go of Neteyam. I looked at my brother but I didn't say anything yet, he wasn't finished.

"I'm sorry, Yana. I should've treated you differently, I should've treated you like my sister but I didn't. I apologize." He signed. I took his hands and smiled softly.

"I forgive you." I said loud, he smiled back. Then I pulled him into a hug and held him close to me. When I moved away again, he quickly rubbed his eyes and smiled.

"I will leave you two." I signed and stood up again. He nodded. But before I left, I went back to Ao'nung, he turned to me.

"Oel ngti kameie." I signed, he made it back and with a smile I left the Marui.

-

FIVE YEARS LATER

"Lo'ak!" I called and laughed as he splashed water into my face.

Five years have passed since Neteyam's incident and he still hasn't woken up. Five years have passed since humans attacked us. Five years. It was a long time. Yet, the Sullys haven't left and Lo'ak and I were closer than ever.

I was 20 years old now and Lo'ak 19. Tuk was a teenager now. Ao'nung hasn't left Neteyam's side and every time he comes back from hunting, he visits his Marui. And every morning and evening, most of the time he was the first one to wake up.

Spider had an Avatar now, though he still struggled a lot with it since he only got it a few days ago. Kiri always made fun of him and Rotxo was quite jealous but Kiri has told him that he doesn't have to worry, because she liked Spider as a brother and nothing more.

I've helped Spider a bit with the Avatar. Him and I grew close too, he knew what it was to be different from your own family and even though I didn't trust him fully, he had proved himself to me. He was worthy of respect.

Now Spider was with Kiri and Norm and Carry while I was with Lo'ak. He said he wanted to show me something.

I already guessed that we will fly. Fly on an Ikran. And we will fly to the spirit tree of the forest Navi. I was a bit scared but I trusted him.

We were far away from our clan and Lo'ak called his Ikran, since they were still here. He stroked it and attached his queue with it. Then he held his hand out for me.

I grabbed his hand and he helped me on his Ikran. I quickly wrapped my arms around his waist and held my head close to his back.

"You'll be fine." He said, I nodded but kept holding tight on him. We started flying, it was so shaky.

But from above the ocean was even bigger, the clan looked small, even our tulkun looked small from here.

We were flying for hours. It was night when we arrived at the forest spirit tree.

Lo'ak held my hand and pulled me with him. I looked around. The forest was beautiful. Everything I touched started glowing for a moment. The tree was just as big as ours in the water.

I let go of Lo'ak and held my hands out, touching the tree. Lo'ak stopped and looked at me with a bright smile.

"Come here." Lo'ak nodded, I walked over to him. He took my hand, intertwined our fingers together. We sat down.

I let go with one hand and took my queue. I teased it a bit to connect it with the spirit tree but I didn't. Lo'ak looked at me. His queue in his hand.

Sitting on his lap, one hand intertwined, the other holding the queue. I breathed out for a moment before we connected our queues together. I gasped, my eyes rolled back and I leaned in to Lo'ak.

Our breaths mixed together and a moment later we closed the inches between our lips, his hands on my thighs, he pulled me closer. I started kissing him along his jaw and neck. Then he lifted my head and we locked eyes.

"Oel ngti kameie.." he whispered against my lips, a smile appeared and I let myself fall right into his touch..

Chapter 15: Extra - Neteyam and Yana

Chapter Text

YANA POV, after they had their signing training

(Disclaimer: Ao'nung X Neteyam for any homophobes around here)

After Lo'ak left, I sighed and turned back. The others looked at me but then decided to go too. Only Neteyam stayed. I smiled a bit.

"Be patient with him." He signed slowly, I chuckled.

"I am. But he isn't patient with himself." I explained and sat back down. Neteyam joined me. I think he wanted to talk, even though I rather think he'd like to talk with my brother.

They've been doing everything together and I was quite wondering why but I wasn't judging.

"I'm really sorry for my brother, Yana. He is a bit harsh sometimes, especially if he's with others." Neteyam explained and signed slowl and clear.

"Yea, I get that. I'm not angry or anything, I'll try to teach him when I meet him alone or something." I said and smiled. Neteyam nodded.

"I'm hungry." He signed then, I stood up and held my hand out, he took it and I pulled him up.

"Me too." I signed then, we walked to the Marui and I peeked into mine, then I grabbed some food and Neteyam did the same at his. Then we walked around, eating.

We were quiet but I liked his presence. I liked how calm he was all the time, a nice person to be around with. We walked past Ao'nung and he nodded at us, seeming to be jealous.

Neteyam greeted him and kept walking with me. I showed him around a bit. We visited some other villagers.

"He likes you." I signed and Neteyam looked confused at me while I smiled.

"My brother, he likes you. A lot." I signed but Neteyam shook his head.

"No, it's not liking, it's respect. We're both the oldest son's." He shrugged it off but I knew better. I knew my brother, I knew when he looks at someone with respect and when he likes somebody. Because one I haven't seen once in my lifetime.

"Neteyam, he likes you." I repeated. Neteyam looked down like he was caught doing something bad.

I stopped walking and turned to him.

"And you like him back but because you're both the oldest son's, you're scared your dad will be disappointed and because he will be Olo'eyktan and you should've been too, your life will be stressful and you're afraid he won't handle it well. Right?" I explained.

Neteyam blinked at me, a guilty smile on his lips. I'm good at reading people especially because I'm deaf. And Neteyam was easy to read after you've spend some time with him even though he thinks it's not true.

"Yea." He said out loud, I chuckled.

"But also," he started and smiled.

"I'm Toruk Makto's son, I'm a warrior, maybe I will die fighting in a war and I will never get to live my life with Ao'nung or anyone at all, anyway. Sooo… I think it doesn't matter." Neteyam shrugged his shoulders and smiled innocently but this wasn't innocent at all.

He shouldn't be worrying about dying in a war because of who his father is. He shouldn't think about not living his life. He was way too young for that.

I grabbed his arms and pulled him closer.

"I will protect you, Neteyam. I will do anything in my hands that will get you the life you want to live. I promise. You won't die because of war and you won't die at all! I promise you." I signed with a smile. Neteyam smiled back, this time honestly and understanding.

We hugged.

I promised him, so I will keep that promise, no matter what. He deserves a happy life with anyone he wants, no matter if it's Ao'nung or someone else.

"But seriously.." I started after we went apart again.

"Why my brother? Of anyone in this clan you chose my brother? Ao'nung? Come on, Neteyam, you can do better than that." I laughed, Neteyam rolled his eyes but laughed too.

Then we kept walking around the village, Neteyam asked me out about Lo'ak with which I answered with an annoyed eye roll because Lo'ak keeps pushing me away.

At the end of the day we had been walking for hours, we walked a big circle around the village and had quite a fun time. I liked Neteyam, he was kind and funny.

And honestly, he fits good with my brother, I think he'll show him how to be the best version of himself..
