Linked Universe Prompts Minific Collection

Summary:

Linked Universe Oneshots.

This is a catch-all series of individual scenes, snippets, drabbles, and other mini-writing projects which I've done in response to various prompts on the LU discord server.

Subject matter, characters depicted, writing quality, and document length will vary from chapter to chapter, and the chapters are not placed into a linear order.

I had fun writing these! :)

Notes:

Disclaimer: I do not own the works any of these snippets are based off of.

Lyrics in this snippet are from the song "Defying Gravity" in the play "Wicked"

Entry 1: Defying Gravity

Prompt: There Is A Song Stuck In Your Head

Chapter 1: Stuck Inside Your Head: Defying Gravity

Chapter Text

Wild jumped off the side of the cliff, using a couple of bombs to blast himself into the air.

From down below, Wind cheered him on while Legend rolled his eyes and Twilight stared in surprised worry, hoping Wild actually knew what he was doing and wasn't just winging it right now.

...heh. winging it.

Moments later, Wars was startled in the middle of sharpening his weapons as he heard a faint voice that seemed to be coming from the sky.

The voice was...singing?

He paused for a moment, cocking his head to the side.

Yep. Definitely singing.

He went back to his work, but kept an ear out for the voice. Another moment more, and he began to make out the words, slowly growing louder and clearer by the second.

"It's time to try defying gravity!"

Well. That certainly seemed appropriate for a mysterious voice from the sky.

"I think I'll try defying gravity!"

Hmm. This voice sounded kind of familiar. Also, it was starting to draw fairly close...Maybe Wars would be able to see who it was, soon? He hummed along to himself as he worked, following the tune that the person was using.

...What? It was catchy, so sue him!

"Kiss me goodbye I'm defying gravity-"

Wait...Was that-

"And you won't bring me dow-AACK!"

Suddenly, Wars found himself bowled over by a scrawny kid of a Hero who really shouldn't have been able to fly upwards that high, considering the topography of the region, but- heck, who was Wars to say what was and wasn't possible when it came to Wild?

Chapter 2: Shake It Up: Navi

Notes:

Entry 2: Poem about Link and Navi

Prompt: Shake It Up

The purpose of the prompt that week was for people to go outside of their normal writing style, or to choose a character they didn't usually write for, or a genre they weren't as familiar with. I decided to do a poem about Link (aka Time in LU) and Navi, and came up with my own type of poem while I was at it (although I'm sure this is already its own poetry style with its own name and everything. Let me know if that's the case, hehe)

Linebreaks are to make it easier to identify when one verse ends and another begins.

Chapter Text

Link

sits on

a lonely

tree branch as he

listens for fairies

drawing near his hideout.

His

tiny

fairy named

Navi has left

and he wishes to

know what happened to her.

But...

Sadly,

there's no trace

of where she's gone,

and his hopes slowly

dwindle away to naught.

Yet

still, as

time goes by

he keeps the hope

tucked close to his heart

that one day she'll show up.

Link

places

a small bowl

filled with water

and sugar, to draw

fairies close to his home

And

he sits

as he waits

in the hope that

his fairy will be

with those gathered 'round him.

Chapter 3: Warriors Week: Wars Can Duplicate Stuff?

Notes:

Entry 3: Wars Can Duplicate Stuff Too! Wait, What?!

Prompt: Warriors Week

Inspired By: Watching Part Of A Hyrule Warriors Playthrough And Noticing How Ridiculous Some Of The Game Mechanics Are

Chapter Text

Something that soon became apparent, once the Heroes first knew each other long enough to notice these sorts of things, was that different Heroes had a wide variety of magical abilities spread out between them.

These differences showed up in big ways for some (such as Four's stronger ability with elemental magic) and small ways for others (like Time's affinity with fairies). However, the truly strange occurrences were the times when someone had a magical ability that was just plain out-of-the-ordinary, especially when it came from an unlikely source.

Like the captain, for instance.

One day, a few weeks after they first began travelling together, the Heroes noticed that they were beginning to run low on rupees. So, they went to go find some pots to break.

Now, the Minish always made sure to hide their useful things with special magic seals so that their gifts wouldn't be taken advantage of by monsters or thieves. In order to extract the things that the Minish liked to hide, the pot had to be broken, but it must be broken only by a person in need-or a Hero.

However, even with this storage system, the pots usually still only stored one or two items at a time.

"What kind of magic was that?" Four asked Warriors, watching him straighten after his sudden spin attack. "I've never seen any number of pots give out that many rupees at once, and here you just brought out at least thirty rupees from a single pot!"

Warriors scratched the back of his neck sheepishly. "It's a sort of... specialized duplication magic, I guess. Pretty rare for a person to be able to do it, but... It's not all that special, compared to some of the other magical abilities out there. More of a party trick really."

All the Links stared at him in disbelief.

"Alright, that settles it," muttered Legend. He stepped up to Warriors and poked a finger in his chest. "You're the one breaking all the pots from now on, you got that?"

Chapter 4: Gotta Go Fast: Kikwi vs Lava

Summary:

Entry 4: Kikwi vs Lava

Prompt: Gotta Go Fast

Secondary Prompt: Angst This Prompt

Well, they told me to angst the prompt...

...Challenge accepted. :)

Chapter Text

The moment they all fell out of the latest portal, they realized something was wrong. While most of the Links were all present and accounted for, there seemed to be...an addition to their party.

A little kikwi had grasped onto Sky's sailcloth from his position in the middle of the group. It was now curled into a ball, gasping for breath. They had landed in the Eldin region of Wild's Hyrule, and the little plantlike bulb on its back began to catch fire from the heat.

This was the absolute worst location for a kikwi to be.

Wild was the first to react. Scooping up the kikwi and cradling it in his arms, Wild rushed towards the closest border of Eldin that he knew of with all the speed he could muster. A moment later, he passed Wars, who had landed a bit farther away than the others, and was staring after him in disbelief. "Wild! Where do you think you're going?"

"Can't talk now, Wars!" gasped Wild, "Gotta go fast!"

Moments later, he finally reached the border, and was able to half-run half-stumble his way down the rocky mountainside until he reached a pool of water at its base.

He was tempted to just toss the creature into the water, but he managed to hold back the impulse and carefully lowered the poor kikwi onto the ground. He began gently splashing water over the burnt portions of its bulb and fur.

Did I make it? he wondered. Is it gonna be okay?

The kikwi lay motionless upon the grass. For a painful second, Wild was genuinely afraid he hadn't gotten it out in time. However, after a moment of terrifying stillness, it slowly pushed itself up and began to lap slowly at the water.

Wild breathed a sigh of relief. The kikwi was listless and groggy, and obviously in pain, but...it was alive.

It was alive.

He could work with that.

Chapter 5: Echoes of the Past: Whispers of Remembrance

Summary:

Entry 5: Whispers Of Memory

Prompt: Echoes Of The Past

This one is a bit more serious-minded than most of my fic snippets tend to be, but- hey, I can be serious sometimes!

Takes place in BOTW; not technically LU, but could be counted as "pre-LU" if you want.

Chapter Text

Link knelt in silence in the empty meadow, eyes closed, face lifted toward the sky as a breeze brushed over his cheeks and ruffled his hair.

A memory had just come to him...It was gone, now, but the feelings it invoked remained, creating a strange combination of joy and heartache, gentle warmth followed by stinging cold, fullness and emptiness in equal measure.

What was the memory about? He wished he knew...had it been a memory? Or a vision? Perhaps a dream? It was hard to say. Everything felt a little unreal right now.

The breeze blew harder, shifting into a light wind. He opened his eyes, and gazed across the meadow. The grass swayed to and fro, and the light played over the shallow puddles sprinkled over the ground.

Link breathed in deeply, then let it out in a sigh. He stood to his feet, shrugging off the lingering traces of static in his brain. He stretched, drew his sword, and swung it a few times for the sheer sake of it. Then, he began to run off towards another Tower, hoping this one wouldn't be quite so...annoying as the last few had been.

Behind him, a small, rare flower waved innocently, nearly hidden within the tall grass.

(Link had no way of knowing it, but it was the same flower his mother had grown in her garden once upon a time when he was small. It was also the one they had planted upon her grave.)

Chapter 6: Seasons: Asking The Real Questions

Summary:

Entry 6: Asking The Real Questions

Prompt: Seasons

Chapter Text

Legend frowned down at the map Wild was showing him on the Sheikah Slate.

"So, the northwest and eastern parts of your Hyrule have snow."

"Yep."

"And all the southern parts of your Hyrule are either tropical or desert."

"Yes."

"And the middle of your Hyrule is just generic grassland, with a bunch of forests with crops."

"...Yes?"

"And the far northeast has a bunch of trees that are losing their leaves."

"I- yeah? Where are you going with this?"

"Oh, nowhere, really. It's just...Doesn't it seem a bit odd to you that you've got all four seasons within a 50 mile radius?"

Chapter 7: Pokemon151: LOZ-Arcaeus?

Summary:

Entry 7:

Prompt: Pokemon Week/151

This was the 151st prompt in the LU weekly-prompts chat, so the prompter declared it a milestone and set a challenge for people to write a mini-fic with only 151 words.

And so I did. Feel free to count them yourself if you wish; the site doesn't do word count by individual chapter, so its kinda hard to prove otherwise. :P

Chapter Text

This particular portal was... strange. Oh, the usual portal elements were there, but... well, for one thing, this particular portal was taking *forever.* The Links found themselves suspended in a vortex. A voice called to them from within the vortex, but none of them spoke the language.

Moments later, the nine heroes were spat out of the portal. Thankfully, they weren't too far from the ground, and they landed in a small heap on the shore of a small beach.

"Everyone alright?" Time asked.

"Oh, just peachy, let's do that again!" muttered Legend, spitting out sand from where he'd fallen on his face.

Wild, who was already up and about, called out "Hey guys, you gotta see this!"

Scrambling to their feet, the heroes joined him. There, hissing and spitting, was a strange...animal? unlike any they'd seen before.

"Where the *hell* are we?!" Warriors growled.

No one had an answer.

Chapter 8: Gotta Go Fast?: OC's Are Fun

Summary:

Entry: OC's Are Fun

Prompt: Gotta Go Fast (First Draft)

Notes:

This was my initial attempt at writing something for the prompt "Gotta Go Fast"- however, I realized as I was writing it that while it was a good scene, it didn't exactly fit the theme of the prompt. So, I decided to scrap it as a prompt entry...but I finished and kept the snippet itself. :)

The lead character of this snippet is an OC Link I came up with awhile back, because I swear every single darn time I play BOTW, I wind up sizing up the shrines as potential hidey-holes that people could live in...and so, I figured I might as well come up with The Hero Of (Shrine) Villages, known within my personal AU of Linked Universe (should I ever actually write him into anything that includes LU) as Komai.

In my AU, although Calamity Ganon's defeat was secure, the effects of his Malice remained and continued to influence a lot of the monsters within Hyrule. While Ganon himself is not at a point where he's able to gather himself and rise again, there are many pockets of monsters which have been heavily affected by Malice, and are a lot stronger and more viscious than "normal" monsters. They become enough of a problem that a new Hero Link winds up being born a few hundred years after BOTW Link, simply because the civilian Hylians are not equipped to deal with this level of threat.

Komai is this OC Link, the successor to Wild (the LU nickname for the Link from BOTW), and more than half of the people in his version of Hyrule live inside the shrines because they needed a way to be able to travel safely through Hyrule, and so- *handwaves technology development from purah and botw-zelda* Zelda and co worked to make little traveller protection stops inside of the shrines, which then grew into full villages and a civilization style all their own.

Anyway...I'm pretty sure this explanation of the backstory of the main character of this snippet is longer than the actual snip itself, haha.

I gave him a Korok companion because I wanted him to have a companion, and it seemed fitting that Wild's successor should be friends with a Korok.

Chapter Text

He staggered up the stormy hill as lightning flashed around him. His little friend followed worriedly behind him.

"Master Link, you should rest," the little korok murmured. "You don't need to push yourself so hard, you know. Stop for a few minutes and rest."

Link paused for a moment, considering, then shook his head and stepped forward stubbornly. "Can't. Stop...Now." he wheezed. "Hyrule is...Depending on...They're... all-" he stumbled on his next step, slipping in the rain and falling onto the rocky ground, shaking with cold and gasping for breath.

"Hyrule needs you at your best Master Link," chittered the korok. "The people may need your help, what with the gigantified creatures, but that also means taking care of yourself so that you *can* help them. Besides- it's not as if we're up against the likes of Ganon again- not just yet."

"Oh, and since we're not up against Ganon, that makes it okay to take my time when any minute some barely-settled town could be overrun with skultullas or giant keese?"

The korok merely stared at him. He sighed. "Yeah, I guess you have a point." He took a deep breath and stood to his feet. "Tell you what, little guy. You help me get to the top of this hill, and I'll take a break in that little ruined house up there. Deal?"

"...Deal."

Chapter 9: Faeries!: Tinkerbell, Tinkerbell, Tinker all the way!

Summary:

In which Hyrule gets into a bit of a situation...

I have very little inspiration to take this further, but I think this could potentially be a really fun basis for a crossover story!

Chapter Text

"Smee! Intruder! Catch it!"

"Right away, Cap'n!"

Hyrule yelped as a net came down over his head. A large- yet surprisingly squishy- hand closed over the other end so that he couldn't even think of escaping, and he found himself abruptly shoved inside a large glass lantern. A tall, dark-haired man with an odd mustache sneered at him from the side of the enclosure.

"There! Now you won't be going off and telling your friends where their little fairy girl is, will you! Smee! Watch and make sure the fairies don't start trying to work together. I'll be outside...watching for Peter, heh heh heh." The dark-haired man walked out of the cramped captain's cabin, laughing to himself as he went.

Suddenly, Hyrule's interest in the ship he'd been exploring while looking for the rest of the Chain took a backseat to the immediate urgency of being caught and placed in a cage.

He stayed put at first, watching the strange, fat man who'd just kidnapped him, but once he'd made sure he wasn't about to be further manhandled, he closed his eyes for a moment to gather his wits about him, then opened them...only to let out a squeaky chime in surprise.

He wasn't the only fairy in here.

Standing across from him, arms crossed and lips pursed into an angry pout, was a young fairy with blonde hair in a green dress.

Weird, Hyrule thought to himself. Most people only put one fairy into a bottle at a time, to prevent accidentally using both the fairies' magic at once. He peered over at the girl. Are we being captured for some other reason?

Well...I won't get any answers by keeping to myself.

"Hey!" He called over to the girl. "Where are we?"

She sniffed at him and turned on her heel. "If you don't even know where you are, then why should I tell you anything?" she chimed.

Hyrule blinked. Well. That's not the sort of reaction I was expecting.

Chapter 10: Villains!: Ba-na-na-naaaa!

Summary:

Entry 10: Ba-na-na-naaaa!

Prompt: Villains!

Secondary Prompt: "Top Banana: Yiga Clan. That is all."

In which Wild has a much friendlier relationship with the Yiga than you might expect, considering they're constantly trying to kill him.

Chapter Text

Link stared at the Yiga who had just popped out of their civilian disguise once again. As the Yiga cackled madly at him and aimed their bow, Link cocked his head to the side, dodged the arrows, and- coming to a decision- called out, "Y'know, I don't think I've ever said thank you! So...Thanks!"

The Yiga froze mid 'hahaha' and was probably blinking behind that mask they wore. "You're thanking me? What for?"

"Oh, you know. You may shoot at me every time we fight, but you can't *really* be trying that hard, can you? And you always leave behind such nice presents!"

"Presents?!"

"Yeah! The bananas are extra delicious when I get them from a Yiga!"

The Yiga relaxed a bit and nodded in approval. "Bananas *are* delicious..."

"Right? And the rupees really come in handy, too! Kinda hard to find those out in the wild, y'know...they really don't grow grass like they used to."

"...Rupees? Oh! The ones that fall out of my pocket whenever I try to grab my teleportation device?"

"Of course! Most of the time I have to actually *sell* stuff to get them! Do you know how *long* it takes to cook that many singular acorns? The shopkeeps are surprisingly stingy when you cook more than one item at a time-always insisting on a discount." Link glanced shyly at the ground. "I hope you don't mind my taking them?"

"Oh no, you're welcome to them! I understand how it is. Shopkeepers and merchants can be pretty stingy, especially to Yiga. They don't like us very much."

"That's too bad. You're all a lot of fun to fight, and your disguises are really clever!"

"Really?!" The Yiga's head perked up. "Why, thank you! I always try my best!"

Link grinned. "I can tell! You always make sure and cackle at just the right volume and tone so that I can't tell whether I'm fighting the same Yiga I fought last time or not!"

"You noticed!"

"Well of course I noticed! I fight you guys all the time, after all-how could I miss it?”

”It's a part of our training, you know! We're supposed to be masters of disguise, and part of that is making sure we blend in with each other as well as we can, so we're trained to copy each other's voices until they all sound the same when we're on the job."

"Wow!" Link grinned at the Yiga in intrigued delight, and despite being hidden behind a mask, the Yiga seemed pretty pleased too. A few companionable moments passed, and eventually Link sighed and broke the silence. "Well, in any case...uh...that's all I wanted to say..."

"Right..."

"..."

"..."

"Sooo...should we get back to fighting?"

"Yeah, let's do that. You want some extra bananas this time?"

Link's eyes lit up. "Would you? I'm almost running out."

The Yiga gasped. "Running out?! Oh no no, we can't have that, can we?"

"Then I guess I'd better beat you quickly so you can leave me some."

The Yiga straightened at that. "Of course. What sort of a Yiga would I be if I left a hungry traveler bereft of bananas?" They took up their usual fighting stance. "But you'd better beat me good. You're *earning* these bananas. You got that...Hero?"

Link braced himself to catch the Yiga's arrows on his shield. "Bring it."

And with that, the battle resumed once again.

Chapter 11: Mail's Here!: Couriers

Summary:

Prompt: Mail's Here!

In which some people take their jobs VERY seriously, and the Links just want to catch a break.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Today just wasn't meant to be their day, was it?

At first, it had started out nice and sunny, and the Chain had allowed themselves to hope that the legendary rainfall of Wild's Hyrule wouldn't make an appearance for once. They had also believed that their usual luck of running into extreme monsters would avoid them, and they'd be able to make it to the next stable on the route to Hateno without too many incidents.

Boy, had those hopes been dashed. Not only had it started to rain-and pretty heavily at that- but there was also a lot of wind, the sky had begun to form lightning, and to top it all off, they were currently surrounded by an unfortunate combination of two walking guardians, three blue bokoblins, a black moblin, a blue lynel, and a group of electric chuchus.

The only fortunate thing to be found in this situation was that none of the monsters were black-blooded; they were all within normal monster parameters. It was in this scenario that the Heroes suddenly noticed that a new party had appeared in the middle of the fray. A strange man with strange clothing and a large bag bumping at his side.

It was difficult to see him in the dark, impossible to determine whether this person would be friend or foe...however, as they had not yet been attacked, and were a little busy at the moment, the Links made a collective decision to consider the guy peaceful-until-proven-hostile, and focused on their current fight.

That was, they focused on their current fight until the man abruptly jogged up to Four and started a conversation. "I've been looking for you!"

Four, who was in the middle of dodging a swipe from the moblin, rolled sideways and back to his feet. "Looking for me? What for?"

The stranger reached into some sort of pouch on his hip. "Got something I'm supposed to deliver- your hands only." With that, he pulled out a small package and a letter and plonked the items into Four's hands.

Four blinked. Raised his sword to block another of the moblin's swings on autopilot. Blinked again.

"And you couldn't have waited to give this to me until *after* we finished with this battle?"

The courier shrugged. "The mail must go through. Gotta make sure I deliver my post in a timely fashion, else I might run overtime." He dashed away again with a wave and a shout of "Enjoy your mail! I hope you survive to read it!"

And with that, he was gone. Huh. What a weird guy.

Notes:

Yes, I based the courier off of the ones from Skyrim. This was intentional. :P

Chapter 12: Weather: Gardenblight

Summary:

Entry 12: Gardenblight

Prompt: Weather

Secondary Prompt: Weather Boy: "Between Wind, Legend, and Time, there are some funky weather items spread amongst the boys. What happens if they don't agree on what it should be like outside today?"

I didn't follow the EXACT nature of the secondary part of the prompt, but the mention of various characters' weather-based items is what sparked it.

Also Inspired By: My dad's spinach woes.

This is technically Legend from LU, but pre-LU-comic.

Chapter Text

Link was bored. He had been waiting for Ravio to come out of the new pawn shop in town for somewhere close to three hours now, and that's not even counting the time he'd actually spent in the shop with Ravio.

So, yeah. He was bored.

With a sigh, he looked around at the drab gray of the late spring sky. It was one of those days; the ones where it's too cloudy to be sunny, but the clouds are too light to make it rainy, and it's not particularly warm but it's not really that cold either, and the grayness of the sky makes everything else seem grayer too, and it's just..blah.

Hm. Maybe he could fix it? Make the day nicer- for everyone!...Yes, great idea! This was an excellent plan. He grinned to himself and pulls out the Rod of Seasons.

One swish of the rod later, and he was standing in a nice, warm summer day with bees buzzing in the flowers and butterflies resting in the sun. Link smiled. This was so much better! He really should have thought of this earlier-

SLAM

Link jumped and whirled around with a start, glancing around to see where that noise came from. To his bafflement, a young lady was storming towards him, visibly fuming, with dirt up her arms and smeared across her face.

"You put that back!"

Link blinked. "Wha?-" He cleared his throat. "Put what back?"

"The weather, the season, the- it's too warm, you idiot! My spinach and lettuce will go to seed! My arugulas will be bitter before I have the chance to harvest them! You think you can just go about changing the seasons willy-nilly? WELL THINK AGAIN!"

Link's eyes widened. "I- er- spinach?"

She got right in his face, growling, "Do you even realize how much a good growing season relies on the seasons being the right length? How many plants have a very specific planting time?! Some things are planted in the spring, some are planted in the summer, some are even planted in the fall! If you keep this up, I won't be able to harvest anything! It'll all be mixed up and growing wrong and seeding too early and it'll be your fault!”

"Alright, alright! I get it!" Link yelped. "I'll put it back, I will- just...just calm down, okay?" He lifted the Rod of Seasons once again and moved the weather back to spring. "There. It's all nice and boring and colder again now. You happy?"

She huffed. "Just don't do it again, okay?" And turning on her heel, she stalked away, slamming the door to her house again.

A second later, Ravio poked his head out the door to the store. "Hey, Link! What was that all about? Did I just hear someone shouting?"

Link sighed.

This was going to be a very long day.

Chapter 13: Prompted By My Gameplay: Ooh, Mushrooms!

Summary:

Entry 13: Hang On, I'll Save Yo- Ooh, Mushrooms!

Prompt: None; inspired by a moment from my own gameplay

This is the last chapter of the ones I already have written/posted on FFN! From this point forward, any additional chapters will be legitimately new material, rather than old material that I'm just posting here for the first time. :D

DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO SEE (minor) SPOILERS FOR TOTK!

I will make sure to put the actual text of the fic down far enough that it should be easily avoidable for anyone who doesn't want to read it.

START OF FIC

The worker stared forlornly at the walls of the ruins he had trapped himself in. Of all the stupid tricks to fall for...you know these ruins are dangerous, so why'd you have to go and trip over a trap? And for a measly fifty rupees no less!

Sighing to himself, he gazed up at the unrelenting stone of the ceiling, wishing he had some sort of ability which would allow him to ascend through the mountainside. Or maybe some sort of acid that could eat through the door, or an explosive to blow a hole in the floor, placed through the bars to the outside. (not inside his little cage, of course; he wasn't an idiot)

Speaking of explosives...what's that sound?

There were some strange blasting noises coming from one side of the tunnel he was in. Is that... "Hey! Anyone there?!" he called.

A second later, the blasting noises stopped, and the sound of footsteps followed in their absence. He had just begun to wonder who on earth would be excavating on the other side of the ruins when who should appear in front of him but the Hero of Hyrule- Link himself!

Oh, thank Hylia, I'm saved! he thought, as Link agreed to see if there was some way of getting him out. I was afraid I'd be stuck in here forever!

Moments later, he could hear Link's footsteps coming from the other direction- the side of the ruins which held the button to release the door- and he cheered as the Hero himself came dashing through the cave entrance...only to blink in disbelief as the guy suddenly paused in the middle of heading for the doorway, and took a right

Huh? What's he doing? I thought he was going to help me- oh. Of course. I have heard that the Hero is known for being an avid collector of mushrooms.

Sure enough. In a small alcove off to the side of the room where the worker had been trapped, there were a large number of mushrooms growing on the walls of the cavern.

Thankfully, while there were several mushrooms, they weren't so plentiful as to distract his rescuer for long. A few minutes later, and he was home free.

...Still. It was kind of funny, getting to see in person what the Hero was really like in action. The ways of the Hero are as mysterious and confusing as they ever were, it seems. The worker shook his head as he trekked up to the tower so he could make the necessary repairs.

Dashing off in the middle of a request to forage for mushrooms. Really.

Chapter 14: Headcanons:Telepathy

Summary:

Prompt: Headcanons
Title: telepathy

I like to headcanon that Zelda actually did all that repetitive telepathy in alttp and Legend was very annoyed at all the starts and stops. :P

Chapter Text

”Help me…I am in the dungeon of the castle….”

Link sighed as the telepathic message came to him once again, interrupting his thoughts and causing him to forget which direction he was going. I really should have taken telepathy lessons when I started learning how to use magic, he thought to himself once the interruption had passed, because at this point if I’m not careful, I’m going to end up attacking the princess instead of saving her.

”Help me…”

“For goodness sake, I got your message! Shut up!”

The bird sitting on a branch of a bush just ahead chirped at him indignantly and flew away. Link sighed. “Yeah, you’re right. It’s not like she can see me coming.”

”I know there is a hidden path from outside the castle to the garden inside.”

…could she?

Chapter 15: Lyricstuck: Misc Parodies

Notes:

Prompt: Lyricstuck
Title: N/A

The prompt was basically “make something song-related, or referencing a particular song”

I did…several…
It was getting close to Christmas, alright? :P

Chapter Text

1: Frosty The Snowman parody.

Zelda the Princess
Was a cheerful kindly soul
With a blue Loftwing, and a harp t’would ring
And the Goddess’ song she’d troll

Zelda the Princess…yet a princess she was not, ‘til the wind spun ‘round and she fell on the ground, so began her royal lot.

2: Jingle Bells Parody, themed around the Depths in TOTK.

This is sung to the tune of Jingle Bells, beginning with the “dashing through the snow” section and ending with the chorus.

Hopping through the Gloom, ‘til I reach the other side; if I make it quick, I won’t even have to slide.

It’s really dark down here, and Kohga’s much too near, but I’ve got gloom-resistant pizza, so what have I to fear?

Oh! darkest depths, darkest depths, brightblooms bright as day!

Oh how terrified I was, ‘til I got some hearts and clay, hey!

Darkest depths, darkest depths, Yiga in the way—but there’s lots of stuff to find, so in the Depths I’ll stay!

3: B-I-N-G-O parody. I was just being silly at this point.

There was a farmer had a dog and Wolfie was his name-ie.
W-O-L-F-E! W-O-L-F-E! W-O-L-F-E, and—“

“You know that’s not how you spell it, right?”

Chapter 16: Crossovers: Aer:Memories of Old

Summary:

Prompt: Crossovers
Title: Aer:Memories Of Old Crossover

It’s a pretty niche game, but pretty cool if you like games that feel eerie while presenting absolutely no danger to the player in gameplay. I really like the story concept; I felt like it would blend fairly well with Legend of Zelda when this prompt came up, so I thought I’d follow the muse and see where it led.

Chapter Text

The world was nearly empty. A long time ago, it was full, but now there were few people left…and fewer born each year. It was said that the very world itself had changed, to accommodate the Great Cataclysm, and until the defiler, the chaos bringer, was put down once and for all, there would be no hope for a renewal of peace.

The world is broken into a thousand pieces, held in place by a thousand invisible strings. It is said that the gods shattered the earth itself in order to protect it, to prevent the Rot from spreading further…until the Last Hero would come to complete his duty once and for all time.

But now…there are so few people remaining…is The Last Hero ever coming? Or will their people vanish into nothingness, a pale remnant slowly fading with each passing year, until nothing of them remains but the scars of old battles and the ruins of old cities?

On a floating island, in the center of what was once called the Forgotten Temple of Hylia (though it’s been so long that even that name has been relegated to myth), a lamp shimmers deep within the innermost chamber.

Outside, in the growing light of dawn, a young boy prepares to embark on his rite of passage into adulthood, to learn of his history and gain insight into the role he plays in the world.

Around them both, the world holds its breath, and waits for them to meet.

And finally, The Last Hero takes a final, bracing breath, and steps into the cavern. His destiny awaits him in the lamp.

Chapter 17: Birds: I’ll Fly Away

Summary:

Prompt: Bird!
Title: I’ll Fly Away

So apparently this particular bird is actually a duck, but I have elected to ignore this because I don’t really want to rewrite it right now. :P

Chapter Text

Legend groaned. “I can’t stand here and watch this anymore. Wind, contact Wild when Wars and Sky are done being idiots. I’m out.”

Snatching up a particular instrument from his satchel, he played a short, twittering tune and stood there with a hand in the air. A moment later, there was a flapping of wings, and they all turned to see a—a…
A small songbird?

The bird flew straight towards Legend, who by now had replaced his instrument and wrapped his other arm around Wild, who gave him a curious look but made no protest.

Wind blinked. “Sure, but where are you goi- Ack!” he dodged as the tiny bird plucked both Legend and Wild off the ground and into the air, the champion’s yelp of surprise trailing behind them.

In the distance, the vet’s answer could just barely be heard, calling, “Away from here!”

They had completely vanished from sight within seconds.

Chapter 18: Legend Week: Rainbow Hair

Summary:

It’s Legend Week on the LU discord, and I wanted to make something but I wasn’t sure what. Then I came up with this idea…what if Legend’s hair turns pink naturally once it reaches a certain length? What if his hair acquired other colors that originate from his adventures?

What if he never figured this out because he never grew his hair past the pink stage?

Prompt: Legend Week
Title: Rainbow Hair

Notes:

…I’ve never put an image in ao3 before. Here’s hoping I did it right. :P

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Warriors glanced at Legend as he walked past. He looked away, then spun back around to look again. Confirming that he really did just see what he thought he saw, he spoke up.

"Hey, Vet?"

Legend glanced up. "Yeah?"

"What's up with your hair?"

He blinked. "What do you mean?"

Warriors shrugged. "Well, it looks a bit...strange," he said.

The veteran frowned. "I mean, I haven't cut it in awhile, so it's a little messy right no-"

"That's not what I meant."

Legend huffed. "Then what are you talking about?"

"It's a little hard to explai-look, just-- here. Look in this mirror. You see?"

Legend looked into the mirror, and froze in surprise. “WHAT the-?"

Notes:

Got to talking about this AU idea with some people on discord, and we decided that each color that appears relates directly to something he encountered in each of his adventures.

-Pink, for the bunny from A Link To The Past
-A combination of dark red, blue, and green for the Oracles games
-Orange/Ginger, for Marin from Link’s Awakening
-Dark Purple, for A Link Between Worlds (because of going to the alternate dimension; the fact that this color is reminiscent of Ravio is coincidental from an in-world point of view)
-Brown, for Triforce Heroes (I know this game is controversial as to whether Legend was actually part of it or not, but it’s included here just for fun anyway)
-Finally, because LU counts as another adventure and the thing that brings them together is their status as heroes, if he let his hair grow long enough it would eventually gain a streak of intertwining blue and purple, like Fi.

Chapter 19: Glitch Stories

Summary:

Prompt in the LU server: “ i feel like there's potential for some of the links to have 'ghost stories' based on certain kinds of glitches. like, things they've seen that they can't possibly explain, and whatever it was creeped them out”

This is my small contribution :)

Chapter Text

One time, when the guards were first brainwashed to come after him, Legend had a vision of himself going into Hyrule Castle, and jumping down from an upper level…only to wake up and find himself still outside of the castle, still with that sensation of falling. He brushed it off and continued into the castle, but when he went into one of the side hallways, he was struck by a guard as he ran into the wall…and suddenly he found himself falling into the castle, able to wander around wherever he pleased, but unable to really tell where he was going. It was an extremely unnerving experience. He hasn’t trusted the stability of walls in years.

Chapter 20: Good Fortune: Lucky Sweep

Summary:

For the sake of explaining this really quick to anyone who doesn’t know: this is part of an au I thought of in which Wars has magical duplication luck powers and that’s why you get so many rupees whenever you break pots in his game. I just upgraded it a bit here to have something to do with probability

Basically, this is sort of a sequel to “Warriors week: Wars can duplicate stuff?”

Chapter Text

“Hey, Wars!”

“What?”
“C’mere!”

Warriors’ brow furrowed as he made his way over to where Sky was speaking with a small creature in the cave. The creature looked him over, gave a nod and a bright grin, and shunted Warriors over to what looked like a small arena-slash…empty garden?

Suddenly Sky was standing beside him, pressing something into his hands. “You’ll need these.”

“Huh?” He looked down at the object in his hands. It was a pair of strange gloves that he’d noticed in Sky’s pack in passing, but never seen him use for anything. “Uh…hang on a second, wha-“
“Just trust to luck and use those gloves to dig around in the holes. You’ll be fine.”
Sky clapped him on the shoulder and took off for what was apparently the spectators spot. For…whatever this was.

The creature’s voice suddenly rang from off to the side. “Green rupees have no bad holes! Blue rupees have one or two! Red rupees have three or four, silver have five or six, and gold have seven or eight! You get all that? Great! Let’s goooo!”

Still fairly confused, Warriors stepped into the…ring? and proceeded to put on the gloves, pick a hole, and dig.

After a few handfuls of dirt, his hands closed around something hard and smooth. He pulled his hand out and found three green rupees.

“Oh.”

Warriors rolled his eyes. He had a feeling he knew why Sky had wanted him to play this game, now.

With a mental shrug, he figured he might as well make the most of it, and began making his way through the course, avoiding the holes that gave him a bad feeling, and digging up the ones that didn’t. At first he only found minor-level rupees—several green, a few blue, one or two reds…(multiplying with his duplication magic, of course)

And then, further into the middle of the course, he hit a jackpot.

As he reached into the hole, he felt another collection of rupees settle into his hand, much larger than any of the other sets.

With a mixture of intrigue, amusement, and dread, he figured this was probably the greatest reason behind Sky’s abrupt request (if you could call it that), and carefully withdrew his hand.

A cluster of ten gold rupees sparkled in his palm. He could barely keep hold of them all.

Stuffing them into his bag, he continued the course, finding three more sets of red rupees and two sets of silver, before the creature in charge of the course called out for him to stop, as he had found all the rupees.

He hadn’t hit a single bad hole.

After he had claimed his prize (a collection of blue feathers that seemed to surprise even the creature in charge), Warriors turned to look at Sky, who seemed to be nearly vibrating with curiosity.

After a moment or two of testing his fellow Link’s patience, Warriors sighed. “Well, let’s get this over with. Ask your question.”

The words nearly seemed to burst out of him. “How many did you get?!” Sky asked.

Warriors shrugged and hefted his loot bag. “Let’s see.” He himself was kind of curious how much his powers affected this particular type of game.

Stepping out of the cave, Sky led him to a flat open space in front of the fire temple, and they poured out their bounty.

There were 27 green, 28 blue, 30 red, 16 silver, and of course 10 gold.

Sky whistled in amazement. “That’s a lot of coin you’ve got there.” He turned to grin at Warriors. “I wonder how many times you could play that game before he notices?”

Warriors glared. “We are not scamming the poor guy out of that much money.”

“Aww, man.” Sky grinned. “Would’ve been pretty funny, seeing you try to carry that many rupees back to camp with your dignity intact.”

Warriors threw a rupee at him.

Bonus scene:

“Hey, Sky?”
“Yes?”
“I was just wondering…”
“Yeah?”
“What’s in the bad holes?”
“Bomb flowers!”
“…Excuse me?!”

Chapter 21: Screenshots/Videos: Miscellaneous moments from my actual gameplay

Summary:

Prompt: Screenshots (from loz gameplay)

So, I have several videos and screenshots that are pretty funny, and this seemed like a good opportunity to write backstories for them!

Chapter Text

1. In which my totk game glitched for a bit and an npc wound up *inside* a boulder.

Link gaped in shock and horror at the sky rock that had fallen on the place where Ledo had been standing. This…did not look good. He really hoped he was mistaken, and that the rock had missed his Zora friend.

Unfortunately, there was only one way to find out…

Swallowing thickly, Link activated Reverse on the rock. The boulder glowed golden and shot back up into the sky.

Bracing himself for the worst, Link looked at where the boulder had been resting.
Ledo gazed back at him, seeming perfectly fine. In fact, he seemed to hardly be aware that anything had happened to him at all.

Link stared, blinking in relieved surprise. So surprised was he, he forgot to tell the poor guy that the boulder would soon be coming back down, and both Link and the Zora cried out when the boulder came crashing into Ledo’s head.

It seemed that Zora skulls were made of sterner stuff than Link had thought, however, as Ledo didn’t even flinch, and the boulder slid off his head and into the water with a splash.

2. Totk moment.
In which Link didn’t even need to do anything.

Link crept quietly along the edge of the rock face, sneaking up on a camp of bokoblins. In the interest of being able to snipe them from above, he Ascended up to a higher position, and turned to face his quarry, only to blink in bewilderment at the sight that greeted him.

I knew they weren’t exactly the smartest monsters in the world, but this is just ridiculous!

One of the bokos, a weaker red one, had stepped a little too close to the fire, and was currently paying for its poor decision making. Link could only stare, as the camp suddenly became short a bokoblin, through no act of his own.

Rolling his eyes, he shrugged to himself and took aim at the white bokoblin, which had not conveniently set itself on fire.

I’ll have to watch these camps more closely. Maybe these kinds of mistakes are more common than I’ve realized.
