Chapter Text
Shadowpaw looked at himself in the glistening water, his eyes full of sadness. He sighed, not noticing a cat trotting up behind him, only looking at the figure behind him once a dry orange leaf dropped into the water, ripples of river water distorting his reflection.
“Shadowpaw? Are you doing okay?” Said the cat behind him, who he recognized to be his mentor, Puddleshine. “Shadowpaw?” The brown and white tom spoke again, snapping his apprentice back to reality.
“O-Oh, me? Oh yeah! I’m fine…never been better!” He said shakily, staring down at his paws.
Puddleshine walked over to Shadowpaw and sat next to him. “C’mon, I know when you’re lying. So, tell me, Shadowpaw, are you doing okay?” He spoke in a gentle bittersweet voice. Shadowpaw let out another long sigh.
“I…I just…I’m so confused, and so stressed out…why did Starclan abandon us? M-My seizures have been getting worse, and…I don’t know, I just don’t feel okay nowadays…” He muttered, eyes full of sadness.
Puddleshine rested his sleek-furred tail on his apprentice’s shoulder. “C’mon, let’s talk it out, ‘kay? I promise everything will be better soon.”
Shadowpaw let out a tiny smile, licking his mentor’s ear. “T-Thank you, Puddleshine…I mean it…” The medicine cat apprentice mewed.
Puddleshine smiled, letting out a tiny chuckle. “No, don’t worry about it Shadowpaw. Besides, you’re mother always knew you had something special in you. And I believe that all of Shadowclan does too.”
“If you ever need anything, just tell me. I guess I’ll leave you alone now.” Puddleshine meowed, standing up and walking away, trotting back to camp. Shadowpaw’s smile faded. I hope you’re right about all of that…Starclan, please help us. Help my clan. He thought to himself, going back to staring at his reflection in the river.
He stared deeply into the river, before letting out a yowl, his body starting to spasm. No, not now! The black tabby shook, mewling weakly as his eyes closed, fur standing on end as he started to have a vision.
Shadowpaw opened his eyes, squinting to see himself in a misty dark forest he was oh-so-familiar with. He backed up slowly, starting to sweat with anxiety. “Starclan no…” he murmured to himself.
The thick black fog in front of him started to clear up, he saw two dark figures. Paws shaking, he slowly walked towards the figures. “Hello? Who are you?” He meowed, scared.
Starting to be able to make out the figures, he saw himself, standing over the dead body of Bramblestar, blood smearing his paws and muzzle. Shadowpaw gasped, slowly backing away. The murderous version of himself stared into his eyes, deep glinting red eyes gleaming through the darkness, seeing right past his soul, and a chill was sent down the apprentice’s spine.
Suddenly, Shadowpaw felt an immense pain go through his entire body, and he collapsed. Shadowpaw tried to yowl out in agony, but his mouth wouldn’t open. Starting to have a panic attack from the anxiety and pain, he started shaking again, the pain getting more intense, like a thousand badgers tearing him to shreds.
Shadowpaw’s eyes flew open, his fur damp and cold with…water? Slowly getting into a laying down position, he shivered against the chilly fall air, coughing up river water. He collapsed again when he felt a warm tongue licking his pelt dry. Sighing, he fell asleep, comforted by the warmth and sensations of this mysterious cat.
“Hello, are you alright?” Shadowpaw heard the voice of a she-cat, soft and sweet like honey, speak. He slowly opened his eyes to see a silver she-cat staring down at him. “H-Huh?” He muttered, still in a daze. The she-cat, whom he recognized to be Shimmerpelt, as he knew her from gatherings, looked at him. “Oh, you poor thing, you must be confused. Well, I found you on the river bank, unconscious. You looked like you were in pain. And you are so scrawny, and barely the size of a kit, so I had to help you in some way. So, I made you a makeshift nest of leaves and moss, and I dried your fur out!” She purred.
Shadowpaw shivered, remembering his vision. He must have fallen into the river while he was having a seizure! “T-Thank you for rescuing me…” He murmured, letting out a tiny purr of gratitude. “No problem!” The Riverclan cat said. “Unfortunately, I’m going to have to escort you out of Riverclan territory now, before I get caught with a Shadowclan apprentice.”
Shadowpaw trotted alongside Shimmerpelt, dry crisp leaves crinkling around their paws. Soon enough, they reached the Shadowclan border. “Bye Shimmerpelt! Thanks again!” The dark tabby mewed, before turning around and walking back to camp.
Shadowpaw sat in his nest, staring into space when suddenly, he heard the voice of a tom in his mind. “Hello? Shadowpaw? Are you there?” The voice spoke. Shadowpaw looked around frantically, but there was nobody around.
“W-Who are you?” Shadowpaw whispered. “Oh, me? I’m just…a Starclan cat. Shadowsight, your special. You can communicate with Starclan!” The voice purred.
“I-I can communicate with Starclan?” Shadowpaw mewed, confused and amazed. “Yes, you can! Just don’t tell anyone, at least for now…”

“Shadowpaw, get over here!” Shadowpaw heard Puddleshine yowl. “C-Coming!” Shadowpaw yowled back, before quickly scurrying over to the medicine den, where his mentor was.
“Oh good, you're here! Listen, I need you to collect some catmint for me, as we’re running low.” Shadowpaw gulped. “C-Catmint? But…isn’t that hard to find nowadays?” The dark tabby meowed.
Puddleshine sighed. “Yes, Shadowpaw. It’s hard to find these days. But please, just try your best, okay?”
“Alright, I’ll try…” Shadowpaw mewed, turning around, and started to walk towards the medicine den exit.
“Wait, Shadowpaw!” Puddleshine called after him. “While you're at it, can you try to get some moss as well?”
“Fine…” Shadowpaw sighed, heading out of the medicine den, trotting towards Shadowclan’s exit.
Shadowpaw walked into the thick of the pine forest, looking around. Snow had started to fall on the tree branches, and a lot of the grass was starting to die. “Moss…I need to find moss…” Shadowpaw muttered to himself.
Looking around, he spotted a bit of moss on a rock. Running over to it, he scraped his claws over the moss, feeling it come off of the cool silver rock, the cold breeze chilling his pelt.
“Collecting moss I see?” Said the voice inside of Shadowpaw’s head. Shadowpaw jumped at the sudden noise. “What- Yes, I’m collecting moss. Who even are you, though?” Shadowpaw asked the voice in his head. They had claimed to be a Starclan cat, but he couldn’t be sure, at least not now.
“I already told you, you don’t need to know my name. Just know that I am a Starclan cat, and I’m trying to help you.”
Shadowpaw sighed as he picked up the moss he harvested. “You say that, but I just don’t fully believe you.”
“Why don’t you believe me? Do you not have trust in Starclan? Besides, you’re the lake’s only connection to Starclan. Don’t you want to do what your warrior ancestors say?” The voice spoke, seeming to be a bit annoyed.
Shadowpaw dropped the moss to speak. “Yeah, but…I don’t know, just forget I ever said that…” He said, picking up the moss again.
“Remember, your mentor…Puddleshine, was it? Well, he said you also needed catmint.” The voice spoke to the medicine cat apprentice. “Yes, I know. I just have to find it. It’s uncommon for catmint to grow here, especially in Leafbare.”
The dark tabby trotted around, his eyes darting from place to place, trying to find the catmint.
“I found some!” Shadowpaw mewled to himself, digging up the light purple plant, and putting it in his mouth along with the moss.
Happy at his success, Shadowpaw walked back to the Shadowclan camp.
“Puddleshine! I collected the herbs for you!” Shadowpaw meowed as he stepped into the medicine den. But what he saw next chilled him to the bone.
“P-Puddleshine?” Shadowpaw mewed weakly, the dead body of Puddleshine on the ground in front of him. Shadowpaw sat next to the body, dropping the herbs he collected. “Puddleshine…wake up…” He whispered, tears starting to form in his eyes. “N-No…” Shadowpaw cried, collapsing in grief. “No…”
“Why are you crying?” Shadowpaw heard the voice of Puddleshine say, as the dead body of Puddleshine disappeared when Shadowpaw blinked. “P-Puddleshine…?” Shadowpaw mewled, wiping tears away from his eyes. “I’m right here. What, did you think I died?” Puddleshine, who was behind him, said.
“K-Kind of…Your body was r-right in front of me…and your neck was gouged open…” Shadowpaw muttered, sitting up. “So, you hallucinated?”
“I guess so…” Shadowpaw said. “Well, did you collect the herbs?” His mentor said. Shadowpaw nodded, nudging the herbs to his mentor, who picked them up and put them on the rock shelf.
“Finally! Starclan, you took forever. And I don’t want a useless apprentice. Anyways, can you give some watermint to your mother, Dovewing? She has a stomach ache.” The medicine cat told his apprentice, who quickly grabbed the watermint and scurried off.
Shadowpaw gulped as he entered the warrior's den.
“Shadowpaw! How’s my little girl?” Dovewing mewed as she saw Shadowpaw.
“Mom! I told you, I’m a boy now! Please, stop calling me a girl!” Shadowpaw mewed, anxiety filling his chest as he sat next to his mother, who licked him on the ear lovingly.
Dovewing stared at her son, smiling. “I don’t care what you say, honey, you’ll always be my little girl.” She said in a sweet voice, giving him another lick on the ear.
Shadowpaw pushed his mother away. “Mom stop! I-I’m a boy…” He choked out, a lump of sadness in his throat. His own family didn’t support him. “P-Puddleshine told me to bring this…” He stuttered, dropping the watermint on the floor before running out of the Shadowclan camp, sobbing.
Shadowpaw ran into the woods, tears streaming from his shimmering red eyes. “W-Why can’t she just…” He choked on his tears for a moment. “Accept me?” The medicine cat apprentice sobbed to himself. “I didn’t even want to be a medicine cat, this only happened because my f-father forced me to be…” He choked on his tears again. “All because of my stupid seizures and v-v-visions…”
“Wow, looks like your clan must really hate you, huh?” Shadowpaw heard the voice in his head say. “They must think you’re stupid and worthless. I don’t think that though. I think you the best medicine cat apprentice to ever walk the lake territory.” Shadowpaw wiped tears away from his eyes. “Y-You think I’m amazing? T-Thank you…” He murmured.
“I love you sooo much, you know.” The Starclan cat in his mind said in a voice oozing like toxic honey. “You must be special to have a connection to Starclan. Really special.” The voice continued. “You know, maybe I could help you cure Bramblestar. He’s deadly sick, and you are so skilled at healing, I think with my guide you could cure him.”
Shadowpaw’s eyes lit up with joy. He could finally prove his worth to his clan! “Okay! What do you need me to do?” Shadowpaw questioned. The Starclan cat chuckled to himself. “Alright, I’ll tell you. He’ll feel all better soon…”

Chapter Text
Multiple moons have passed, and Shadowpaw, who was now called Shadowsight, had followed the voice’s instructions and revived Bramblestar. However, as time passed, it was revealed that Bramblestar was being possessed by Ashfur, he was taken prisoner by Shadowclan and Shadowsight was forced to take care of him for being reckless.
Shadowsight sighed and took the leaf packet that was resting on the medicine den shelf for him.
Mothwing must have left this for me. Shadowsight thought, flipping it open with his claw.
Shadowsight let out an agitated groan. “Ugh…”
Inside the leaf wrap were some pine needles and a stem of tansy. This isn’t what I need to cure his wounds… Shadowsight thought to himself, almost expecting Ashfur to say something in his mind before he remembered that Ashfur wasn’t infiltrating his brain anymore, though he didn’t know if that was a good or bad thing. Re-wrapping the leaf and picking it up in his mouth, he walked over to the dusty old makeshift den where The Imposter was being held captive.
He dropped the packet on the ground in front of Ashfur, who was chained to the floor with a tough bramble vine around his throat like a collar, and unwrapped it gingerly.
Ashfur looked up at the demoted medicine cat, then gave him a smooth sickening smile. Ashfur was covered in scars and burrs, his fur messy and unkempt. “Whatcha got for me today, Shadowsight?” The sturdy brown tabby mewed in a toxic sweet voice, rubbing up against his healer and letting out a tiny trill.
Shadowsight let out a low hiss of annoyance, blushing a bit. “Shut up. You're just trying to manipulate me!”
Ashfur let out a gruff chuckle. “Oh, Shadowsight. I think you are an amazing medicine cat, you know? What they did to you was unfair. Maybe you deserved it though, after what you did to your precious Bramblestar.” He let out a little cackle, his tail tapping the ground.
“S-Shut up! You…groomed me into thinking what I was doing was okay!” He grunted into his chest fur as the dark tabby took the pine needles out of the leaf wrap and chewed them up. “Oh, really, is that so? You know, I wouldn’t have chosen you if I knew you weren’t the brightest cat in the lake. Besides, your eyes are so pretty, your fur is gorgeous, and your ears are perfectly aligned…, I just care about you…” Ashfur purred deeply as Shadowsight licked the needle paste into his patient’s wounds.
“Oh…thanks, Shadowsight. I just know you’ll make me feel all better. Besides, you are such a wonderful and skilled medicine cat, the most skilled I’ve ever seen.” Ashfur nuzzled into Shadowsight’s thick chest fur.
The medicine cat let out a low snarl. “Shut up! Shut the hell up! You don’t even know what I’ve gone through all because of you and your stupid grudges!” Shadowsight yowled as tears started to form in the corners of his eyes, and he sat down next to Ashfur, handing him the tawny as Ashfur began to eat it.
“Hmmph…” Ashfur mumbled, before swallowing the tawny, feeling a blissful chill run through his body, the herb starting to take effect.
“Do you want to talk about it?” The old tom cat mewed, gently putting his paw on Shadowsight’s paw. Shadowsight looked at The Imposter, resting up against him, letting out a tired sigh.
“O-Okay.”
“Y-You said you were a Starclan cat, and-“ Shadowsight began before he was interrupted by Ashfur.
“I was a Starclan cat before I was wrongfully kicked out! I swear, I’ll get my revenge.”
“Anyways,” Shadowsight continued, “You knew that I was a young kit, and you took advantage of me. You caused me to have painful seizures and terrifying visions and nightmares. Y-You told me to…” Shadowsight broke out into sobs, collapsing into the ground.
Ashfur curled his tail around the pitiful young cat, gently licking his fur smooth. “Shh…it’s ok, kit. I’ll make everything all better, just you see…”

Chapter Text
(Tw, rape, abuse)
Shadowsight woke up. He barely slept, and his eyes were sore. Shadowsight let out a low whine as he realized he had fallen asleep next to Ashfur while he was licking him.
Shadowsight tried to sneak out of the prisoner’s den when a pair of fangs grabbed him by the scruff and dragged him back.
“Where are you going, kit?” He heard the Imposter speak in a rough tone. “I-uhm- n-nowhere, Ashfur!” Shadowsight stuttered, starting to shake as Ashfur put the medicine cat in the nest and pinned him down. “Shhh, don’t worry kit, no need to be scared. I won’t hurt you…” Ashfur growled.
His words sent shivers down Shadowsight’s spine, and he felt like what Ashfur said implied that he would hurt him later. Shadowsight let out a tiny sob and his groomer started to lick his stomach, slowly getting lower as Shadowsight’s anxiety raised. “You are mine,” Ashfur muttered whilst licking his thigh.
“S-Stop it!” Shadowsight sobbed, lashing his claws across Ashfur’s muzzle, a bit of blood beading at the fresh cut. Ashfur jumped back with a hiss, wiping a paw across his muzzle. “Oh, you little brat.” Ashfur hissed, lunging at Shadowsight before he could run away. The Imposter bit deep into Shadowsight’s spine, then started to aggressively shake his victim around. “No! I-I’m sooorry!” Shadowsight screamed in pain, before getting thrown into the rock wall, head first. Shadowsight groaned in agony before his body spasmed and he fell unconscious.
“Stupid wrench,” Ashfur growled in anger, stepping closer to his victim’s body. Ashfur let his claws run down Shadowsight’s hide to make sure he was unconscious.
“Tsk. Couldn’t even stay awake to accept his punishment.” Ashfur hissed, spitting onto Shadowsight’s body before grabbing his scruff and silently dragging him out of camp.
Ashfur dragged Shadowsight out of the den, then looked around to make sure nobody was around. He sighed in relief to himself. Nobody was around. Ashfur dragged his victim out of Shadowclan camp, deep into the pine forest where he was sure nobody would find him. He also killed a bird, and dragged it across the ground so it conflicted with his scent trail, to make sure he was safe. He dropped Shadowsight hard against the ground and then bit his cheek. The wrench is still out… The gruff tom thought to himself. He shook Shadowsight until he let out a tiny moan of pain. “Owww…m-mom…?” He groaned, slowly opening his tired eyes. Upon seeing Ashfur, Shadowsight immediately hit a burst of adrenaline through his veins, and he tried to stand up, but his entire body hurt, and he had the worst headache of his life, so the pitiful medicine cat collapsed again. “G-Get away from me! Where am I? Where is my clan?” Shadowsight yowled in fury. But then, a strong brown paw, claws unsheathed, landed on his neck, knocking Shadowsight’s head to the ground. “Silence! It doesn’t matter where I take you, you are nothing but a stupid kit! A kit! Now shut the fuck up before I gouge your throat open, and when your clanmates do find you, you’ll be long dead with flies and crows nibbling at your pathetic flesh. Do. You. Hear. Me!?” The Imposter screeched, punctuating each word by picking up Shadowsight’s head and slamming it face-first into the hard dirt floor. Shadowsight could only muster a pained whimper as his face was covered in dirt and scraped up, a trickle of blood coming from his nose, which was probably broken by now. Ashfur didn’t respond to Shadowsight’s whimper, instead walking behind Shadowsight. Shadowsight gasped as he felt a cold, sharp claw running down his thigh, making shallow cuts, then roughly grabbing his striped tail and pulling it out of the way. Shadowsight yowled in pain and confusion as he stared at his assaulter, a dark glare in his amber eyes. “W-What are you doing? Don’t touch me!” He snarled, baring his teeth and puffing up his fur, trying to look brave and intimidating even though he was visibly shaking from fear. “Oh, Shadowkit, you all bark and no bite. I expected more of you, especially now. Oh well, I would go for that bitch Squirrelflight, but you are the second-best thing, dear.” He spoke in a cold, mocking tone that Shadowsight knew oh so well, even though he wished he didn’t. He wished he never met the dark warrior. Shadowsight could only muster a sob as Ashfur started to rape him.

Chapter Text
Shadowsight woke up and started crying and shaking. He tried to get up, but a paw pushed him back down, albeit gently, and Shadowsight screamed. “Stop it! Stop it! I don’t want it!” He cried more. “Shadowsight, hush, it’s okay, you're safe here.” A familiar voice told him, and Shadowsight let out a loud whimper. Rootspring lay down next to Shadowsight and licked his ruffled grey fur smooth. “Shh, it’s okay, it’s okay, you're safe now,” Rootspring murmured, nuzzling his friend. “Are you feeling better now?” Rootspring asked him. “Y-Yea…” Shadowsight muttered, still a bit shaken. Rootspring put his warm soft paw against Shadowsight’s paw and gently entwined their tails. “That’s good…d-did Ashfur hurt you?” Rootspring asked, looking down at the bandaged wounds covering the poor tabby’s scrawny body. Shadowsight just sobbed pitifully as a response. Rootspring gave his friend an encouraging lick on the ear. “Shadowsight, what did he do to you?” Rootspring pressed, getting concerned. “He…He…” Shadowsight stuttered, starting to whimper. “It’s okay Shadowsight, tell me what he did,” Rootspring murmured into Shadowsight’s ear, nuzzling his fur to try and comfort him. “H-He…H-He…” Shadowsight gulped. “Raped me…” Shadowsight whispered. “W-What?” Rootspring said. “He r-raped me!” Shadowsight cried out. Rootspring looked hurt and sad. “S-Shadowsight, you have to tell someone!” He whispered. Shadowsight cried. “N-No…” He responded. “D-Do you want me to watch over you while you sleep?” Rootspring asked. “Y-Yea…” Shadowsight whined, burying his face into Rootspring’s ginger fur. Rootspring started to groom Shadowsight’s fur whilst humming softly to himself. “It’s gonna be okay, Shadowsight…” He whispered, barely audible. Shadowsight didn’t respond, instead, he closed his eyes, curling his tail around Rootspring’s tail. Rootspring started to lick Shadowsight’s ears, while Shadowsight started to purr weakly, and he could hear Rootspring’s heartbeat. Shadowsight slowly fell asleep, into a dark abyss of solitude and comfort.
