Chapter Text

Silence that's all there was and as Gibbs was looking around and he could only see Tony and Ziva and he was glad they were OK but he was worried about the others.

Gibbs walks over to them and when the two agents see their boss/friend they immediately hug the man.

“We were worried about you boss,” Tony says.

“I'm OK, what about the others?” Gibbs asks.

“Gibbs” Abbey says coming up to them and she gets pulled into a hug by Gibbs.

“I'm so glad you're OK, Abbey,” Gibbs says.

“We all are” Ziva says and she hugs her friend after Gibbs.

“Do you know how Jimmy and Ducky are?” Tony asks.

“I don't” Abbey replies.

They all look at each other and they hope they're OK as no-one knows how bad the explosion was.

It took 2 hours for the team to find out how Jimmy and Ducky were doing and once they saw them alive they were so happy.

Vance had survived the blast and he was lucky to have not been in the building when it exploded.

The director walks up to Gibbs and the team and finds out who is alive and who is still trapped.

“What do we know?” Vance asks.

“Good to see your alive director,” Tony says.

“You and I,both Agent DiNozzo” Vance says.

“We don't know who caused the explosion or why,” Zive says.

“We don't even know who the target was or how whoever managed to get the bomb in,” Tony says.

Gibbs is looking around and he can't see any sign of his son and he hasn't heard anything about him.

“Where's Mcgee?” Gibbs asks.

Everyone looks at him and they all realize Mcgee must still be in the building and they all go rushing.

In the building Mcgee was unconscious and he was under a lot of rubble.

Gibbs and the team managed to get into the building and they were frantically looking for Mcgee and they could see no sign of him.

Ziva managed to see something and she went to see what it was and to her horror it was Mcgee.

“Over here I've found him” Ziva shouts out.

Everyone comes running and when they hear Ziva.

When they arrive they see that Tim has blood down his face and he is struggling to breath and he is under quite a lot of rubble.

“DiNozzo I want you and Ziva to get most of this rubble off Tim so we can get access to him” Gibbs says giving orders.

“Ducky, I want you or Jimmy to examine him,” Gibbs says to his friend.

“Jethro I don't want to sound negative but me and Mr Palmer won't be able to give Timothy much of an examination” Ducky says.

Gibbs looks at his friend and he knows that he is asking a lot but he feels guilty that his son is in this situation.

“How about a rough examination?” Jimmy asks.

“Well from the looks of it he has got a concussion, leg looks to be broken and I would say he needs to have his chest cracked and that would relieve the pressure on his chest and he would be able to get some air into his lungs” Ducky says.

“What about moving him will that not cause him to go into cardiac arrest?” Tony asks.

“If we're not careful, we really need to have paramedics here so we can have the right equipment to handle the situation if it happens” Jimmy says.

“Ok I'll go and find some paramedics and some firefighters and hopefully with their help we can get Mcgee out safely” Vance says.

20 minutes and Vance is returning with two paramedics and 4 firefighters and they have all come up with a plan to get Mcgee out and hopefully they can get him to the hospital as well.

Gibbs is getting frustrated and he wants to be the one in charge but he needs to let the professionals handle it.

“Have you told Evan yet?” Ducky asks.

“No I haven't and I will tell him when we get to the hospital and know more” Gibbs says.

Gibbs is not only Mcgee's dad but he is also Evan Buck Buckley's dad and he has been since they were 5 and 7 years old.

Gibbs had been going through a lot he had lost Kelly and Shannon 2 years previously and he was in Los Angeles at the time visiting a friend of his who is called G. Callen and he could see the pain his friend was going through so he said to him that he needs to find a purpose in his life and Callen said to him why not look into adopting a child who may be able to help him heal.

Gibbs told his friend that was not an option as he would not replace his daughter and he would not put a child through that as he would not want that child to feel like they are replacing a child who was loved more than them.

Callen understood where Gibbs was coming from and told his friend to think about it.

When Gibbs got back to Washington he got back to work and he had a case where a child was being neglected by their parents who were NAVY and it turned out that case was the one to set Gibbs on the road to going to CPS and starting the process of adoption.

It took 6 months for Gibbs to become approved to be able to adopt as the social worker in charge wasn't sure about Gibbs at first but after a few meetings she was surprised and she appreciated him being honest about his late wife who was killed along with his daughter and he said he doesn't want a child to replace his daughter but to show the child love and protect them and be there for when they achieve something and when they fail and give that unconditional love they are supposed to get.

When Gibbs visited the foster home a blonde little boy ran into his legs and Gibbs looked down and he came face to face with Evan and the boy smiled at him and Gibbs felt a rush of warmth and a few minutes later a boy who looks to be 7 came into the hall and he had brown hair and told Evan Lunch was ready and they both left.

Gibbs asked the social worker who the other boy was and she said that his name was Timothy Mcgee and he was very protective of Evan.

Gibbs is brought out of his thoughts by a screaming sound and it turned out to be Tim who had regained consciousness and he was in pain.

Gibbs runs to him and he tells him that everything will OK and with that the paramedics load Mcgee on to the gurney and they head to the ambulance and Gibbs tells them he is riding with them.

The team watch on and hope that Mcgee will be OK.

Chapter Text

The ambulance arrives at the hospital and the team of doctors are already waiting and once they open the door the paramedic tells them who the victim is and what the situation is and they wheel Mcgee away and get to work on him.

Gibbs has looked on as his son is getting taken away and he is going to lose him.

“Take that thought out of your head this instance Jethro” Ducky says coming to stand beside him and Gibbs smirks as his friend knows him too well sometimes.

“You know me too well, sometimes Donald,” Gibbs says.

Ducky and Gibbs laugh at the comment and it helps to relive the worry Gibbs is feeling.

The rest of the team arrives a few minutes later and Ziva and Abby hug Jethro straight away and they let the man know that they are here for him.

Tony and Jimmy try to keep themselves busy but they are worried and it shows on their faces.

No one spoke to each other and it's not like anyone would know what to say as it is.

Ziva gets up from the chair and she is getting frustrated and it's getting on her nerves.

“This is ridiculous,” Ziva says.

“What were you hoping for?” Tony asks.

“I was hoping for news by now Tony” Ziva says.

“Well you may get your wish” Jimmy says and he points to the doctor who is walking their way.

“I'm looking for the family of Timothy Mcgee” Dr Clarkson asks.

“We are. I'm his father” Gibbs says.

“Are you Leroy Jethro Gibbs?” Dr Clarkson asks.

“Yes I am” Gibbs says.

“Let's talk in my office” Dr Clarkson says and leads Gibbs to his office and the rest of the team just sit there waiting for when Gibbs returns.

Once in Dr Clarkson’s office both Gibbs and the Dr take a seat.

“Let me just say that your son is alive and he made it through surgery” Dr Clarkson says.

“Thank god” Gibbs says and he relaxes.

“That's the good news at least unfortunately the bad news is that your son's leg is completely broken and it's going to take a few months to heal and he also suffered some bruising to his ribs and they will heal by themselves” Dr Clarkson says.

Gibbs is in shock and he can't believe how bad his son got hurt but Gibbs can tell the doctor is not telling him something.

“There's something you're not telling me, Dr Clarkson” Gibbs says.

“There is a possibility that your son could be paralyzed” Dr Clarkson says.

Gibbs thinks he has heard wrong. There is no way Timothy is paralyzed no the doctor has it wrong.

“Mr Gibbs I know this a lot to take in but as I said it's only a possibility and once your son wakes up from surgery we can perform the necessary tests so please don't jump to the worst case scenario” Dr Clarkson says and he gets up and Gibbs does the same and the both go back into the hall and Gibbs walks to the rest of the group who look at him straight away.

“Tim's alive” Gibbs informs them and they are all happy but they can tell there is more news to come so they wait for it.

“He has got bruised ribs and a broken leg and we just need to wait until he wakes up so they can see how much damage is done to his leg so they will examine him again” Gibbs says.

Gibbs doesn't know why he didn't tell them that their friend who they all love like a brother may be paralyzed but at the moment he keeps it to himself.

Ziva can always tell when someone is lying to her or not telling the entire truth and looking at Gibbs she knows he is holding back certain information and she will find out what.

Gibbs tells everyone to go and get some food and after that he tells them to go home but they all refuse to go home so Gibbs tells Tony and Jimmy to go to the canteen.

Ziva manages to get Ducky to give her a moment alone with Gibbs and she is glad he didn't ask questions but she knows that Gibbs is holding something back and Ducky knows that Ziva can get the information out of Gibbs.

“So are you going to tell me what else the Dr said?” Ziva asks.

Gibbs looks at her and he knows that he needs to tell Ziva the truth and it's not like he is shutting the rest of the team out it's just him and Ziva have a different kind of trust and that's all down to when she saved Gibbs life when her brother nearly killed him and Jethro knows that when she shot her brother it was the hardest thing she had to do but after that Gibbs knew he could trust her.

“You can't tell anyone else from the team,” Gibbs says.

“I won't, I promise,” Ziva says.

“There's a chance Tim may be paralyzed when he wakes up,” Gibbs says.

Ziva looks at Gibbs and she knows he's telling her the truth and she is angry and all she wants to do is go and find the person who put her best friend in the hospital and has potentially made him paralyzed.

“How confident are the Dr's that he won't be?” Ziva asks.

“They sound confident and that Dr said once they do the examination they will know more” Gibbs says.

“Then we stay strong and we hope that Mcgee isn't paralyzed and even if he is we will handle it,” Ziva tells Gibbs.

“You're right we just stay strong” Gibbs says.

Tony and Jimmy returned with loads of food and Abby came back with loads of drinks as well and they all made themselves comfortable as it was going to be a long night.

The nurses at the hospital had come over to the group and told them that visiting hours were over and all they got told was they were staying and after a while the nurses gave up.

Tony kept looking at Ziva and Gibbs and could tell they were hiding something but he couldn't figure out what and he thought about going over there but Jimmy came over and asked to speak to him.

“What's up Jimmy?” Tony asks.

“I may be wrong but I think Gibbs is hiding something else from us” Jimmy says.

“You're not wrong Jimmy I think that too and I'll find out” Tony says.

“Find out what DiNozzo?” Gibbs asks.

Tony looks up at his boss and the man looks stern but it's clear he is worried about his son.

“I was just saying to Jimmy that I agree with him that you haven't been honest and told us what else the Dr said about Mcgee that's all” Tony.

Everyone looks at both Tony and Gibbs and they wonder what Gibbs has kept from them.

“Let me be clear so everyone is on the same page what I choose to tell you all or not tell you is my choice and that includes when it comes to my kids and their health so if I want to keep things private I'm entitled to do so and let me also remind you I'm your boss as well so I don't have to tell you anything if I don't want to is that clear” Gibbs says.

Tony looks at his boss and he is shocked that he would say that but from the look Ziva is giving him he knows to just nod and keep his mouth shut.

Abby and Jimmy don't know what to say or what to do so they just nod and keep their mouths closed.

Ducky knows his friend is lashing out but there is some truth to what Gibbs has said and Tony needs to learn when to ask what someone is hiding and when not to.

Gibbs gets up and walks away and once he reaches a distance he pulls out his phone and phones his other son.

While waiting Gibbs thinks about how both his son's have made him come into the 21st century and helped him to become used to technology and he still has his old phone but that is used when he needs to go undercover for a case.

Chapter Text

Grant-Nash Residence.

Buck was spending some time at Bobby and Athena's today as Bobby asked him if he could help him out with a few jobs and Buck agreed as Eddie and Chris were spending time with Abuela and even though Buck was invited he wanted to let Eddie and Chris have time with Eddie’s grandmother.

When Harry had moved away with Michael and David and May had her own place Bobby and Athena had decided to change both rooms into guest rooms and that meant for the next 4 days Bobby was going to be busy and the man decided to ask Buck if he would like to help him as he had noticed that Buck was different and he was not that friendly with Chimney and whenever Maddie would come to the station Buck would excuses himself and say he had jobs to complete.

Bobby wasn't the only one who noticed the change in Buck as when they had their monthly BBQ Athena had noticed that Buck would avoid his fellow colleague and sister and he would keep an eye on Christopher if those two came over to talk to the boy.

When Athena had told Bobby her concerns he immediately said he would talk to Buck and see if everything was OK.

Buck arrived at Bobby and Athena's house and he was greeted by the police sergeant who gave him a massive hug and then let him in.

“Hey Buck, I'm really glad you could help me today,” Bobby said.

“Yeah I'm happy to help out Bobby” Buck says.

Athena tells both Bobby and Buck what she wants the room to look like and she leaves for the store.

Buck and Bobby got to work and they spoke about what was going on in their life and how things have been.

Buck isn't giving much information to Bobby so from what Buck does say Bobby tries to figure out what direction he needs to take when asking him certain questions.

“So how are you and Eddie doing?” Bobby asks.

“We are doing fine, thanks for asking,” Buck says.

Bobby is getting nowhere and he decides to just ask Buck outright.

“Buck is everything ok you seem to be a little off lately and me and Athena are worried about you?” Bobby asks.

“Honestly Bobby I'm OK I'm just trying to make a decision about something” Buck says.

Buck knows he has been different and he knows that Bobby and Athena have been worried about him but at the moment he needs space and time to figure out what he wants to do regarding Maddie and Chimney.

Maddie and Chimney have shown that they are not very good people and Buck is starting to see that and he is really getting frustrated with them.

Buck had been taking care of Christopher one day and they were at Buck's place and while Buck and Christopher were having lunch someone knocked on Buck's door so Buck got up and opened it and Maddie and Chimney were standing there and before Buck allowed them to come in the couple barged past and told Chris to go into the other room and Buck didn't like the tone of their voice and the way they just came in to his apartment and started to give orders to Chris.

Buck was angry and told them to never speak to Chris like that ever again and to wait until they are invited in as it's called common courtesy.

Maddie and Chimney didn't like the way they were getting spoken to and Chimney went to hit Buck but he managed to hurt Chris instead as he pushed past the boy and he didn't seem to care.

Buck immediately ran to Christopher and he made sure the boy was ok and he only had a few scrapes and Buck was glad about that and when he took Chris upstairs to his bed he made sure that he was comfortable and he told him that he will deal with Maddie and Chimney.

Buck came downstairs and he was angry and he made sure to keep his voice low so not to upset Chris and he told his sister and her boyfriend how he felt and how they had no right to do what they did and when they went to defend themselves Buck told them that they need to get out as it's clear they don't seem to care about what they did to Chris.

Maddie and Chimney leave Buck's apartment and he slams the door shut.

Buck takes a few minutes to calm down but once he had Buck went up to see Chris and the boy had fallen asleep.

When Eddie found out what had happened to Chris he was pissed off and he wanted to go round and tell Maddie and Chimney what he thought of them but Buck told him he needed to calm down and once Eddie did Buck and him spoke and they decided to distance themselves from Maddie and Chimney.

Bobby doesn't say anything but he goes over to Buck and hugs the man.

“If you ever need to speak you know me and Athena are right here for you” Bobby says.

“Thanks Bobby, I appreciate it,” Buck says.

Before Bobby can say anymore Buck's phone goes off Buck looks at it and sees it's his dad calling.

“Sorry Bobby but I need to take this,” Buck says.

“No problem Buck, why don't you go outside as it's more private” Bobby says.

Buck goes out to the garden and he answers his phone.

“Hey dad what's up?” Buck asks.

“Hey son I'm sorry but I have something to tell you” Gibbs says.

“Is everything ok?” Buck asks.

“No it's not. Earlier today the NCIS building was blown up and I'm sorry but Tim was hurt really badly and he is currently in hospital” Gibbs says.

“I'm coming to Washington," Buck says.

“Evan I know you're scared but I will phone you and let you know when I have more news” Gibbs says.

“I'm coming to D.C and that's final” Buck says and he tells Gibbs to text him the hospital they are at and he will let him know when he lands in D.C.

Buck goes back into the house and he tells Bobby that he needs to leave as something has come up and Bobby says he hopes everything is OK and Buck leaves.

Buck is so glad that they have 4 days off as it makes things a bit easier for him to travel to D.C and then find out what's going on and then he can make a decision on if he needs time off from work.

Buck phones Eddie and tells him what's happened and Eddie tells him that he will stay in L.A as Chris can't be taken out of school and Eddie doesn't want to meet Buck's dad like this so they both agree for Buck to go by himself and let Eddie know what's happening.

When Buck told Eddie about his childhood and how he was adopted Eddie was shocked but he kept it to himself and if Buck wanted people to know then that's his business.

Buck gets back to his apartment and packs a bag and he books a plane ticket and calls for a taxi and when the taxi comes he tells the address of the airport to the driver and he texts his dad saying he will be in D.C in a few hours and his dad says he will get someone to pick him up.

The taxi pulls up at the airport and Buck gets out and pays the driver and then he grabs His suitcase and heads through the door.

Chapter Text

Washington DC Airport.

Buck gets off the plane and he gets his suitcase and he turns his phone back on and when he unlocks it there is a text from his dad saying that a woman called Ziva David will be waiting for him and he sends a text back saying that his plane has landed and he will see him soon.

Buck walks to the exit and he sees a woman with dark brown hair,brown eyes and tanned skin and he knows this is the woman his dad sent.

“Ziva David I take it” Buck says.

“Yes, that's me and your Evan Buckley?" Ziva asks.

“Yes, that's me. It's a pleasure to meet you but it's a shame to meet you like this” Buck says, holding out his hand for Ziva to shake.

Ziva shakes Buck's hand and she takes a mental note on how good his grip is.

When Gibbs asked Ziva to pick up his other son she knew she was getting told more about him and this was something only she was allowed to know.

“So how long have you worked for my dad?” Buck asks.

“I have worked for him for 7 years now,” Ziva says.

“So you and Tim get on then?” Buck asks.

“McGee and I get on very well. I consider him as a brother and someone I would die for” Ziva says.

Buck looks at Ziva and he gets the impression that she is someone who can take care of herself but also someone that is never to be crossed.

Ziva and Buck leave the airport and they get into her car and drive to the hospital.

When Buck and Ziva reach the hospital they both get out of the car and Buck is so glad as he never wants to be in a car with Ziva ever again.

Ziva smirks and she can't wait to get to know Buck more as she is going to enjoy winding him up.

Buck walks into the hospital and he immediately goes up to the nurse station and asks what room Timothy McGee is in and the nurse asks who he is and Buck tells her he is McGee's brother and he takes out his ID that has his adopted name on it.

When Buck and McGee turned 18 they changed their names to Gibbs on all their official documentation and they only used their birth names for work as they wanted to make their own way in life.

The nurse looks at McGee's file and she sees that Evan Gibbs is on the list so she tells him what room to go to and Buck thanks her.

Buck knows he could've followed Ziva but he needed to follow the hospital policy first.

Ziva and Buck come to the room McGee will be staying in and everyone looks at Buck and they wonder who he is.

“Evan, good for you to come,” Ducky says.

“Good to see you again uncle Ducky” Buck says and he hugs the man.

“Jethro will be back soon,” Ducky says.

“No worries. So is anyone going to introduce themselves or not” Buck says.

“Evan this is Anthony DiNozzo,James Palmer and Abigail Sciuto” Ducky says introducing everyone to Buck.

“Hello everyone, it's nice to meet you,” Buck says.

“I'm sorry but who are you and how do you know McGee?” Jimmy asks.

“I'm Tim's brother,” Buck says and he goes and sits down.

“So where have you been as its was hours ago that McGee got hurt” Tony says.

Buck looks at Tony and he can tell the man has never had any real struggles in life.

“Not that it's any of your business DiNozzo but I live in Los Angeles and I'm a firefighter so I can't just drop everything and magically appear when my brother gets hurt and next time you speak to me in that tone of voice you'll be the one getting treated by the doctor” Buck says.

“Plus my son has a family he needs to think about and my grandson can't miss any days of school” Gibbs says standing behind DiNozzo and the rest of his team.

Gibbs goes over and he hugs his son and tells him he is glad he is here and Gibbs hugs Ziva and thanks her.

Buck asks what the doctors said and Gibbs tells him what he can and Buck knows his dad is hiding something and when he looks at Ziva he knows she has been told more and it looks like she is the only one.

The doctors have finished the operation and they have wheeled McGee into his private room and Dr Clarkson comes out and tells Gibbs and Buck that three people can see him at one time and that's all he is allowing and he leaves to get started on McGee treatment plan.

Gibbs,Buck and Ziva go in first and the rest waited outside.

“Well Evan is friendly,” Abby says.

“Yeah real friendly” Tony says and there is disdain in his voice.

“Do I detect hatred for Evan coming from your voice Anthony?” Ducky asks.

“So what if you do” Tony says.

“Tony just because someone has pulled you up on your attitude doesn't give you the right to speak in that tone of voice and I'm surprised Evan held back as when it comes to his big brother he will defend him from anyone and he calls people out on how they act and it's about time someone called you out on how you think it's ok to know everyone's business but you feel it's ok to keep things to yourself so I would work on that part of myself before judging other people” Ducky says.

Everyone looks at Ducky and they are all shocked but no more than Tony.

In McGee's room Gibbs is fussing over him and making sure he is comfortable when he wakes up.

“Dad, you need to stop,” Buck says.

Gibbs looks at his son and he is using his normal Gibbs stare and Buck is used to it after all these years.

Ziva looks at both men and she is very impressed with how Buck doesn't crumble under the almighty Gibbs stare.

Gibbs gives up and he goes and brings the chair closer to his son's bed and he takes McGee’s hand.

“You know McGee never mentioned you at all I hope that doesn't hurt you” Ziva says.

“I'm not surprised at all because I'm exactly the same, not that many people on my team know about how I grew up and it's only my boyfriend and his family that know who I really am,” Buck says.

“Has Gibbs met your boyfriend because the way he spoke about him seems like he has?” Ziva asks.

“No he hasn't and we were planning on visiting my dad and Tim in the next few weeks and introduce both Eddie that's my boyfriend’s name and Chris who is my boyfriend’s son but is more like a son to me and see how they all get on but it looks like my dad already knew” Buck says.

“Well that's Gibbs for you” Ziva says.

The door to McGee's room opens and it's Ducky who pops his head in.

“Jethro Agents Callen and Hanna are here plus a new Agent called May Grant” Ducky says.

“Did you say May Grant?” Buck asks.

“Yes Evan I did and I may be getting old but my hearing still works so yours should to” Ducky says.

“Uncle Ducky you're not that old” Buck says and he gives Ducky a cheeky smile.

Ducky just laughs at what Buck says.

Everyone leaves the room and when they enter the waiting room Gibbs sees his friend Callen and he recognises Sam Hannah.

“May is that you?” Buck asks.

May looks at Buck and she can't believe her eyes and it looks like her big secret is out.

When May was working at dispatch one night she took a call about a guy planning on taking his life and when she typed in his name and address it flagged up that he was NCIS and May knew that meant something but priority was keeping the guy from hurting himself so she kept him talking and told him about her own experience and by the time the ambulance got there and both Agents Callen and Hanna arrived on the scene and they informed May the guy was alive and May thanked them and she disconnected the call.

A few days had past and she had forgotten about the call that is until she was at home and there was a knock at her door and when she opened it she had to look down at the person who knocked the woman is 4 feet 9 inches and she introduces herself as Hetty Lange and tells May she has been recruited for NCIS.

May had been training for months and she always told her mum and Bobby that unfortunately she was busy and when they asked how dispatch was going she lied and thankfully Hetty had spoken to Sue and told her that if anyone asks about May she is to tell them that May had requested further training as she wishes to progress so she is at different dispatch centres and Sue knew to follow the women orders.

“Buck what are you doing here?” May asks.

“My brother is Timothy McGee and my dad is Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs” Buck says.

“As in the legendary Gibbs” May says and her voice shows her surprise.

“Agent Grant, you are supposed to be acting professional,” Callen says.

“Yeah like you have acted professional G” Buck says.

“I'm always professional, Evan,” Callen says.

Sam laughs at what his boyfriend just said and he tries to pretend he was just coughing.

“Does anyone actually care about McGee or is this stupid guy your only concern?” Abby asks and she points at Buck.

Buck looks at Abby and Buck remembers how Tim would tell him stories about her and how she is a very rude person at times and Buck doesn't like her.

“And you are?” May asks, looking at Abby.

“I'm Abby Sciuto,” Abby says.

May just looks at Abby and already she has an opinion of her and it's not a nice one.

“What did you find out Callen?” Gibbs asks.

“Well you and the director were actually the targets and the person thought you both would be in the building that's why they placed the bomb in the director's car” Callen says.

“OK. Let me know when you have more information?” Gibbs asks.

“I'll speak to you later May” Buck says.

“No problem. Take care of yourself” May says and she hugs Buck and she leaves with Sam and G.

Buck goes back into McGee’s room and takes his brother's hand and hopes he wakes up soon.
