The Thirdborn Oneshots

Chapter 9: Life Triumphant

Notes:

August 7, 2025: This marks The Thirdborn's first connection to Fire and Ash! If you're trying to avoid spoilers and leaks, I'd suggest skipping this chapter until the movie is out.

Time will tell how closely this resembles the actual events of the movie. I left it somewhat vague to accomodate that uncertainty, but also for stylistic reasons.

I literally just wrote this tonight. I may do some proofreading or minor revisions over the next few days, if I feel the need.

Hope you enjoy!

Chapter Text

Do you see it, my daughter?

You must see it!  I have given you everything you need to save him, to bring him into this world.  But you must be the one to do it!  Please.  I know you can!

It took all of Yavanna’s strength to restrain herself from physically intervening as the young human lay dying on the forest floor, his mask no longer able to sustain him.  She couldn’t bear to watch the boy die now, not after she had seen a way for him to be a part of her world.  But as with so many other pivotal moments in the history of Arda, it all hinged upon the Children.  They were to help each other - it was not for the Valar to intervene.  Yavanna watched as the young Na’vi crouched over her friend, desperately pleading for the Great Mother’s help.

You have everything you need.  She did not speak to Kiri, but she prayed for her to know this truth and act upon it.

Life began to stir, and it was not Yavanna’s doing.  Something new began to happen, the likes of which had not been seen since the Spring of Arda.

Yavanna’s garden reached out to the child of Earth in distress, and he reached back.  The lifesongs of two worlds intertwined, their distinct notes blending together into a new melody.  A song of symbiosis.  An anthem of life triumphant.

Lungs stopped heaving and took in deep, healthy breaths.  Poisoned blood flowed clean again through its vessels, driven by a steady, strong heartbeat.

Yavanna could see what was happening, how it was happening; yet even so, she was overcome with awe at the beauty of what she had just witnessed.  And she realized, belatedly, that she herself could not have done this.  Even if she had tried.  She did not recognize all the notes of this new song, and she would not have known to sing them.  It was not a part of the first Music!  This was truly something new, and it rang with the glory of Arda Unmarred.

As ever, the Children of Illuvatar were granted the ability to chart their destiny beyond the Music, and Yavanna had just seen this gift borne out in spectacular fashion.

It was also foretold that the Children would sing the Second Music.

Had the first notes of that Music just been sung?
