Chapter 1: Snowy Nights In
Chapter Text
After being brought back to life, Clover found themself living with Martlet. Staying with her for a few weeks now has been… interesting, to say the least. But, they had also never felt more at home than they did now. Ceroba and Starlo came to visit quite often, considering everyone lives in the same neighborhood. Plus, since school was out for winter break, Frisk could come over and have an all day hangout session with Clover!
Getting to play with Frisk all day was a blast for the two. Chara and Asriel decided to go over to Monster Kid’s house to hang, leaving just the two of them by themselves. Unfortunately, a rather bad snowstorm came out of nowhere, bad enough that it would be dangerous for them to play outside. Phoning Toriel, she and Martlet decided it would be best to have Frisk stay the night, rather than risking either of the two Monsters by driving out in such bad weather.
Of course, the two humans were immensely excited about this! Eating junk food! Playing games! The two of them had a BLAST! But, as it was waning into the long hours of the night, Martlet told the both of them to get ready for bed. Frisk took the guest bedroom while Martlet tucked in Clover. Wrapping the Human in their multitude of cowboy themed blankets, she gently brushed their hair. “Goodnight Clover.” She said, petting Clover’s messy hair one last time, before turning off the lights and heading out the door.
Letting out a big yawn, Clover sleepily replied, “Night Mom.”
Stopping at the door, Marlet spun her head around. “Wait, Clover, did you just…?” Quickly realizing what they had accidently said, Clover’s eyes shot up.
“Sorry, I…I meant goodnight Martlet.” They corrected themselves, embarrassed, and with a hint of trepidation.
Nervously stepping across the room, Martlet kneeled down next to the bed. “Hey, um…” She struggled for words. “You don’t have to be sorry about that Clover.” She said hesitantly. “If you want to- and of course this is completely up to you, since I don’t want to force you to say this or anything-” Stopping her word jumble she slapped a feathered hand to her forehead. “I’m rambling again aren't I?” She sighed, focusing back onto Clover. “Look what I’m trying to say is that, if you want to, you call me….mom.”
Clover, still looking sheepishly at the bird monster, felt a lump form in their throat. Heart pounding in their chest, they dared to meet the others' eyes, allowing a small bit of hope to enter into them. “Are…are you sure?”
Marlet, unable to help herself, leaned down, wrapping her feathered arms around the small human, enveloping Clover in a warm hug the likes of which their favorite cowboy blankets never could. “Of course I’m sure Clover! I’d be happy if you called me… Mom.” A few tears escaped from the human, letting them fall silently, only to have Martlet comfortingly wipe them away and hold them tightly. The two of them remained like that for what felt like an eternity.
A loud yawn from Clover was what broke the embrace, as Martlet gently placed them back under their blankets. With a peck on the forehead goodnight, she left the room with a huge smile on her face that just could not be contained. ‘ Mom…They called me Mom! Ohh gosh! Am I really ready to be a Mom? Heck, I didn’t even make it out as a royal guard! But now as a mom???? Walking down the hallway and into her own room, she shook her head, feeling a new sense of determination flow over her. NO ! I have to do this! I WANT to do this! I’ll be Clover’s mom, and I’ll be the best mom there ever was !’
Instead of going to sleep, (like she planned ), Martlet sat at her desk and got to writing. ‘Mom Plan 1’ she promptly wrote down, brainstorming on all the things she would need to do as a mom.
-------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile, Frisk was finding it difficult to fall asleep. Living with two siblings meant they were used to sharing a room with Asriel and Chara. But now sleeping alone like this became utterly impossible. After what felt like at least an hour of tossing and turning, Frisk sat up on the bed, a look of frustration across their face. Looking around the room, all they could make out was the four dark corners and ceiling.
Stepping out of bed with a pillow in hand the human gathered the determination to open the door and brave the dark hallway. With a hand on the side of the wall, Frisk made the short walk over to Clover’s room. Quickly reaching their destination, Frisk quietly turned the knob, entering into the room as silently as they possibly could.
Taking small footsteps, they crept over to the lone bed, where a sizable lump under the covers could be seen. Noticing how the other was quietly snoring and not awake, as Frisk had feared, gave them the courage to cross the rest of the way. Standing next to the bed, Frisk took a deep breath, reaching out and gently shaking Clover’s shoulder.
One shake…
Two shakes…
Three shakes…
And then finally, lucky number four was what rose Clover from their slumber. Eyes squinting as they adjusted to the dark, they made out a dark form hovering over them. “Clover?” Frisk quietly questioned. “Can I sleep with you tonight?”
With Frisk identifying themselves, Clover slowly rubbed their tired eyes. “F..Frisk?” They mumbled. “What time is it?”
Sheepishly moving from side to side, Frisk responded. “A bit past midnight?”
“Did you have a bad dream?” The laying human asked.
“No.” Frisk denied, squirming slightly in embarrassment. “I just… kinda, don’t wanna sleep alone…” Frisk admitted.
Shuffling about, Clover pulled their covers to the side, scooting over to the other side of the bed. “Yeah, we can sleep together.”
Nodding in appreciation, although they doubted Clover could see it, Frisk put their pillow down on the bed and got in. With the covers pulled over the two, a comfortable silence settled in the room. Frisk found themself subtly scooting a bit closer to Clover, to the point where they were shoulder to shoulder.
“Hey Clover?” Frisk whispered out, breaking the silence.
“Yeah?” Clover asked.
“Can we hold hands?” Clover looked over at Frisk, a faint blush cascading their cheeks.
“I mean, if you want to?” They responded, trying to keep their heart beating steadily. With a shaky hand, Clover reached out, intertwining their hand with Frisk’s equally warm one. A few minutes pass as the two keep laying there in silence both hand in hand.
But embarrassment was eventually put to the side as sleep took precedent. Cheeks still slightly flushed, Clover was ready to welcome the nocturnal slumber again, until Frisk whispered out, breaking the silence one final time. “Did I make you embarrassed, cowboy .”
“Frisk!” They whisper out. “Cut it out.”
“Cute.” Frisk giggled at Clover in response.
“Frisk, no.”
“Frisk, yes.”

Chapter Text
Sand blew across the field as the two opponents stood glaring at each other. The Human and The Monster. A tale as old as time. But, there could only ever be one victor. The human’s calloused fingers fiddled with the holstered gun, while the Monster pulled the hilt of a sword out of its scabbard half-way. “It only takes one shot.” The human stated, tone filled with determination. Their thirst for justice about to be quenched.
Scoffing at the audacity of this mear human showed, the monster let loose a hearty laugh. “You honestly think your little pee shooter can hurt ME?! Get ready then, for your DOOM has arrived!”
A few seconds passed, before the human made the first move. Pulling out their nine iron, they quickly took aim as the monster swiftly pulled out their sword. Time slowed as they each got their attack ready until- BOOM! The gun went off, the bullet hitting its target right dead center. The monster stumbled to his knees as the human looked down at their opponent. Their smirk of victory soon dashed as the monster maniacally laughed. Standing back confidently, as if the bullet that hit them was nothing but a mosquito bite, he loomed over the human.
“Did you honestly think that could stop me?” He boomed; a grin plastered across his face. “For you, see I have the Armor of ETERNITY ! Which cannot be broken by mere bullets !”
“STOP!” Chara butted in, huffing with annoyance. Stomping up in between the two, they glared at their brother, arms crossed. “Where did that even come from?”
“What do you mean?” Asriel asked in turn.
“THAT!” Chara pointed at Asriel, pushing their finger into their pajamas. “The Armor of Eternity? It makes no sense.”
Growling, he argued back. “It totally does make sense!”
“No it doesn’t. You can’t just pull something like that out of your butt. You have to have some build up! There was nothing in the story’s foreshadowing about you having this!” Chara complained. Their attention to detail and rigorous storytelling being ruined by their sibling’s antics.
Click . The sound stopped the two bickering siblings, turning to see Clover reloading their nerf gun. “Too bad for you Asriel, I HAVE THE BULLET OF BREAKING!” They stated with a flourish, spinning the gun around their finger before aiming it back at the monster. “This bullet is capable of breaking any armor!”
Bewildered, and now slightly vexed at the situation, Chara grew increasingly frustrated. “What? No you can’t do that either. “Look guys, we need to have structure. You cannot just have things without some sort of explanation! Like, when did you even get that bullet, huh?”
Clover nonchalantly shrugged. “Back in the Winter Castle.” They explained. (It was a location in their made up game).
“How?” Chara demanded. “You have to let us know this sort of stuff if we are to have any sort of frapping continuity!”
Ignoring their sibling, lifting up the wooden sword up high into the sky, doing his best to strike a formidable pose, Asriel cried out “THUNDER WAVE!” Slashing the sword down as a whoosh of air was cut between them. However, before the imaginary strike could do any damage, Colver pulled down their trusty brown hat, curling it in front of the blast like a shield.
“Sorry bucko, but my hat was blessed by the gods of Life!” Giving a devilish smirk, Clover stood from their kneeling position, putting their hat back on. “Meaning anything that you throw at me can’t hurt me!”
Gawking as the madness continued before them, Chara could feel a headache coming on. “No no no!” Frustrated, they stamp their foot down. “This is not some anime !” They spit the word out, disgusted. “This is a complex story with worldbuilding! You can’t just come in and- and break the rules!”
Asriel deadpanned at Chara. “Says the ‘Monarch of Monsters’ and their ‘Dagger of Demons’.
“Well that was set up before the game started so, technically it doesn’t count.” Chara explained, with a regal tone, befitting their character in the game. “But you two,” They said with a pointed finger. “Have broken the rules of the game, and as such, need to be punished!”
“What?” Asriel whined. “No fair.”
“Tis indeed fair brother dearest, for as the game master and creator, I decide how things work. And since you both seem to want to break the game so badly, you can BOTH go without your powers until I say so!”
Clover, desperately looking for a way out of the situation, pointed at Asriel. “He started it!” They threw Asriel under the bus. “So I should get to keep my powers.”
A look of utter betrayal befell Asriel as Clover shamelessly sold him out to Chara. “Nuh uh, and…and plus you had a nerf gun! How was I supposed to beat that with a sword anyway?”
Clover shrugged their shoulders. “Not my fault you brought a sword to a gunfight.” They twirled their gun nonchalantly.
Chara was ready to give their final remark on who was more at fault for this whole fiasco, until Frisk burst into the bedroom. Sporting a white and pink polka dot robe while holding a toy ‘Mew Mew Kissy Cutie Staff’ (which was just a white rod with a pink and red heart on the top that lit up). “Fear not travelers for it is I, Queen of Snow and Ice here to restore your powers!” They loudly proclaimed with endless enthusiasm.
“Frisk!” Chara exclaimed, exasperated at this point. “Your character is supposed to be cold and menacing!” Deciding to actively ignore Chara, Frisk bounced over to Asriel, booping him on the snoot with a touch of their staff.
“Boop!”
Asriel blinked a few times, bewildered, before smiling, wiggling their snout. “Thanks Frisk.”
“Anytime.” Frisk pulled out a handkerchief, wipinging away the bit of wetness from their staff caused by Asriel’s healthy, wet nose. “Okay Clover, your turn!” Moving over to the other, Frisk was about to touch Clover’s forehead with the staff, before suddenly stopping.
“Aren't you gonna help me as well?” Clover questioned.
Eyes closed in concentration and deep thought, Frisk tilted their head left to right, unsure in their actions. “Mmmhhhhh…well, the thing is I… can’t.”
“Yeah, because your character has never had this ability, Frisk.” Chara interjected.
Ignoring their partner’s comment, Frisk opened their eyes to Clover. “At least, not how I did with Asriel.” With a suspicious looking smile on their face, they continued. “I need you to close your eyes in order for this to work.” They batted their eyelashes.
Clover, not seeing any reason not to distrust Frisk, promptly closed their eyes. A few seconds of silence passed, before. a smooch could be heard. “Okay! You can open your eyes now, Clover.” Listening to Frisk once again, they were greeted with an open palm, hand stretched out towards them while they stuck a pose of what could only be in reference to one of Alphys’s anime. With a soft blow across their hand, Frisk blew Clover a kiss. Slowly realizing what had happened, a small blush slowly crept up on Clover’s cheeks, Frisk giggling in response.
“There you go. All better.” Frisk winked, making their siblings sigh, long since used to Frisk’s antics.
Notes:
And there we go. I already have an idea of what I am going to do for chapter 3. Should be out soonish. Probably not as fast as this chapter but soon none the less. I really enjoy the idea of Clover coming back and the life they would have on the surface. They deserve all of the love. Anyway, can't wait to see you all next time.

Chapter Text
The mall was abuzz with conversation and sound, as people were shopping and clustering all about the brand new HomeTown mall.. It was a Saturday afternoon where Clover and Martlet found themselves at the mall doing errands. Happy to help their mom with shopping was nonetheless a complete and total bore to the young human, who did their best to not drag their feet as they walked. “Stay close Clover. It’s getting really crowded in here.” Martle told her… kid . That word. That amazing and awesome word feels like it could fill the whole world with joy . She thought. Especially, after the events of that night, Martlet could not stop herself from smiling like a little kid, anytime she reminded herself that Clover was now her child.
Seeing as how the crowds did get bigger, Clover pulled close to Martlet as they wrapped their small hand around her own large feathered one. “Okay mom.” Clover replied nonchalantly. It was a bit awkward at first, calling their friend turned mother ‘mom’ was a bit of an interesting change. Not just in the context of what to call her but also in terms of their relationship. But as the weeks passed it had become second nature to refer to her as mom. In the meantime, Martlet had to fight off the feeling of her own soul wanting to melt at how adorable her kid was. Especially, how fluffy and messy their hair is when they are not wearing their many cowboy hats, like today.
And so the two made their way through the mall. First starting at a clothing store to pick up stuff for Clover as they had started to grow out of their current clothes. Starlo had even taken to playfully calling them ‘corn stalk’ on account of how fast the human was shooting up in height, much to the growing human’s chagrin.
A little over two hours had passed and Clover had slowly but surely gotten beyond bored. Marching behind Martlet from one store to the next. Hoping and praying for this nightmare to eventually end. For as much as they loved hanging out with their mom, this wasn’t exactly their idea of fun. They could not wait to get home and hop on the computer to play with Frisk online. “Okay Clover, we just have one more store then we can go home.” Martlet said, looking down at the smaller.
“UHHHHH.” Clover whined out, head tilting back. “But mom, we’ve been here forever .”
Playfully shaking her head at their child’s over exaggeration, Marltet playfully rubbed Clover’s head. “Oh come one Clover, it's not been that bad. Besides this is the last one, promise.” She gave her signature wink and a thumbs up.
Clover shot her a blank look, the type of which could almost rival Frisk’s own poker face. “That’s what you said about the previous store. And the store before that, and the one before that, and the…” Clover was cut off by two large blue feathers covering his mouth.
“Okay okay, I get it! But really I promise this time will be the last store.” Martlet said with a guilty smile. But that smile was quickly dropped as she saw the fear in Clover’s eyes. The trembling of their shoulders and how they seemed to close in on themself. Removing her feathery hands from the human’s mouth she kneeled down to Clover’s height, worry lacing her voice as she spoke. “Clover, are you alright?” She was about to reach out and lay a hand on their shoulder before they shot away, and now that fear had an additional look of panic.
“Clover honey…what’s wrong? Are you hurt? Did I say something wrong?” Martlet asked in quick succession, her voice filled with desperation as the look their child was giving was not only devastating in the fact it was their own kid making this face. But also that the fear and panic, she realized, was in fact directed at her.
“I…I’m sorry. I…I’ll be good.” Clover mumbled out.
That right there broke Martlet’s soul. Clover, their boisterous kid, who was always raving on about something or another, and constantly going on adventures with their friends, was looking at her, afraid. Stopping herself from reaching out to grab Clover, Martlet tried to meet the other’s gaze who had it currently on the ground. “Hey buddy, I’m not mad, I promise. I didn't mean to upset you. Honestly! So umm…Oh the last store, that was what we were going to do! The toy store!” She said trying to distract Clover from whatever it was upsetting them. Martlet the heck was that? The Toy Store? Your kid is clearly upset and , instead of getting to the bottom of things you try to distract them? Geez, I knew I was not cut out for this mother thing.
Clover brought their gaze back to Martlet and whipping a few stray tears with the sleeve of their jacket. “Toy store?” YES! Okay keep this up and maybe we can comb some information from them. I’ll cheer them up and then WHAM! Solve Clover’s problem and hopefully end it off with a big hug.
Nodding her head fast and trying to keep up the fake smile. “Yep, the toy store. You can pick out any toy you want. You’ve earned it for being so great for me today. Coming along with your mom on this boring shopping trip like a champ.” She was telling the truth. At least a half-truth. As the last store was supposed to be a shoe store to get Clover a new pair of school shoes, as they could not be wearing cowboy boots everyday. But trying to cheer up a clearly distraught Clover was far more important than some new kicks.
Looking uncertain and still withdrawn in on themself but slowly opening up, Clover hesitantly asked “I was good?”
Eyes widening at the question, Martlet was quick to reply before their child could go down a potential rabbit hole of self depreciation. “Yes, yes, yes! You have been really good today and as such you deserve a reward.”
A smile crept on the Human’s face as they slowly reached out to take hold of their mom’s. Moving her wing over but letting Clover be the one to latch on to her, she gave a gentle squeeze and ushered them to the toy store.
The walk was silent and the only noise that could be heard was the hustle and bustle of other patrons in the mall. Finally arriving at the store ‘Toys n’ Stuff’ the two made their way in. Shelves filled with anything and everything a kid could want. Legos, trains, model ships, and of course toy guns. Clover let go of Martlet’s hand as they rushed over with new found enthusiasm to the toy gun section. Their eyes set on a BB gun in the middle of the shelf. It was the same one Starlo let them borrow for target practice a few weekends ago and now they could have one of their very own.
Taking it off the shelf, eyes sparkling with joy, Clover turned around to see Martlet holding a puzzle box. Noticing Clover, she waved them down. Upon approaching, Martlet was fiddling with the puzzle box with wrapped attention. “Look at this Clover!” She squealed in delight. “A genuine HUMAN puzzle box! It’s sooooo cool.”
Nodding in agreement as Clover had taken to liking puzzles themself and even helping Martlet with one or two in the past, they moved over to her side and presented the toy they wanted. “Mmhh what’s this?” She gently took the toy from their hand and inspected it. Wincing at the ridiculous price but swallowing the feeling that her wallet was about to be a lot more empty, she reluctantly accepted. “Is this what you want?” She gently asked Clover. The human nodded furiously up and down, brown shaggy hair getting in their eyes. Maybe a haircut is due next time . Martlet thought to herself. “Alrighty then. Come on.” With that, the two went to the counter and bought the BB gun.
Leaving the mall and putting all the bags into the car, Martlet drove them to the park next to their house. Finding themselves on a bench as the snow drizzled down, the both of them were eating some nice cream to warm themselves up a bit as they enjoyed the winter season. “Hey Clover?” Martlet asked, breaking the silence.
Too busy to give a proper response with a mouthful of nice cream they mumbled out. “Mmhh?”
“Are you alright? I mean back in the store you kinda freaked out.” Clover stiffened causing Martlet to go on immediate damage control.
“I swear I’m not upset or anything! In..In fact I want to know why you were upset. That way if I was the one to make you upset then I will know what not to do for future reference.” She sputtered out.
Squirming under her gaze, Clover set the nice cream aside trying to gather the courage to speak. “It's just that…it brought up bad memories…from my old family.” Before anymore could be said Clover was pulled into a warm side hug with Martlet’s wing covering Clover’s side, enveloping the human into a warm embrace. “I am so sorry Clover. Had I known I would NEVER have done it.” Looking up at their mom while she spoke, Clover could see the pure determination coming off from her. The look screamed of honesty. Trusting Martlet’s words, Clover nuzzled their face into her side.
Happy that their kid was calm and now understanding why Clover had reacted the way they did, she attempted to probe a bit further for information. “Do you want to talk more about it? I promise I’m all ears and no judgment.”
Squeezing her side just a bit, Clover shook their head. “I really don’t want to. At least….not now.” Deciding not to continue asking further lest she push Clover away even further in this vulnerable state.
“Mom?”
“Yes Clover?”
“I love you.”
…. Squeeze . “I love you too.”
Notes:
Really enjoyed writing this chapter. Really wanted to showcase Martlet trying to be a new mom. Along with the relationship between the both of them is something I really look forward to expanding more as I continue this series. Again, I thank you all for reading and liking this work. It means the world to me to see how much positive attention this is receiving. And with that, see you in the next chapter!!!
Chapter 4: The Question
Summary:
Clover has a very important question to ask Frisk. One they had been wanting to ask the other for a very long time now.

Chapter Text
Brushing out their poofy and unkempt hair, Clover stared intently at the bathroom mirror. “Ouch!” They groaned out as they hit a particularly rough knot in their mane of wild hair. School had just let out and Clover was quick to rush home, even deciding not to walk home with their friends citing that ‘I have something really big to work on’ as being their excuse. Sure it sucked that they could not walk home with them, especially Frisk. But the reason for their getting home quickly was because of Frisk. Rushing through the front door and up the stairs to the bathroom, not even stopping to greet Martlet.
Now with all the knots out of their hair, they set the brush aside before changing into a new pair of clothes that their mom bought for them. Brown shorts and a yellow button up t-shirt along with a very fashionable yellow polka dot bandana. Looking at themself from several angels Clover made sure they were presentable. Shooting finger guns at their own reflection and cocking a determined smile, a small knock on the open door alerted Clover. “Looking mighty spiffy their deputy.” Seeing Starlo lean on the side of the open door, he gave the smaller a thumbs up. “Nice pose!” Clover blushed in embarrassment at being seen doing different poses in the mirror.
Starlo waved his hand back and forth. “Don’t be so embarrassed kid. I did the same thing before I went out on my many a missions. It's not only important to be a good leader but to also be stylish too. Anywho, why you all dressed up?”
Clover stepped out of the bathroom looking around the hallway, making sure that Marlet was not nearby. “I…was..(cough)...am going to ask someone…out.” They said, whispering the last part only to hear the clanging of pots and pans along with the rushing of clawed feet up the stairs.
Martlet quickly made her way up the stairs still wearing an apron. With a great big smile on her face she started cooing at how cute Clover looked. “You're going to ask someone out?!!! WHO! Ohh wait, is it who I think it is?”
And again Clover was completely embarrassed. They had really wanted this to be all hush hush and as secret as possible. But now it seems that high noon has come and there is no way out of this confrontation. Unless…A Distraction ! “Why are you visiting Uncle Starlo?” The human questioned, trying to steer the conversation away from them.
“What, your uncle can’t stop by once and awhile. Besides it’s Friday ain’t it. Which means..” Starlo then pulled out a red and green colored box from out of nowhere and presented it to Clover. “Family Game NIGHT!” Crap , they had all but forgotten about family game night . Soon Dalv , Aunt Ceroba and cousin Kanako will be here . There's no way now I’ll be able to ask Frisk today .
Starlo excitedly hurried the mother-son duo down the stairs and into the living room. As Starlo was breaking out the card game, Marlet let out a cough getting their attention. Placing her feathered hands on her hips with a smirk on her face she began the interrogation. “Now don’t think I forgot about this whole, asking someone out business?” It seemed that their plan to be secretive was now gone with the wind. “Do I have to?” Clover asked, to which Martlet gave a curt nod. “Yes, yes you do. As your mom, it is my duty and responsibility to make sure that if my child is going to ask someone on a date, that the person is nice, kind, and respectable.” Moving over to a large wooden drawer in the room, Martlet pulled out a very hefty book. “At least that's what the ‘Parenting 101’ book said.” Martlet stated as she began to skim through the pages looking for more information on this topic of dating.
“Frisk.” They mutter out, earning a squeal of delight from Martlet along with a large hug from the bird Monster.
“My baby is growing up! You and Frisk get along so well already. Ohh do you want me to drive you there? Or maybe we can invite them over? I can even help you prepare to ask them!” Clover furiously shook their head no which was ignored by the excitable monster. Martlet only stopped gushing about Clover and their date , when Starlo put a hand on her shoulder.
“I think the kid wants to do this themself.” He remarked.
Setting Clover down she looked at the two questioningly. “What do you mean?”
Clover took a ready stance as if ready for battle. “I want to do this myself.”
Starlo nodded in agreement. “Yep. Sorry Martlet but this is the kind of thing they have to do on their own.” He then raised his arms up making an ‘X’ mark with his arms. “No outside help.”
Martlet looked back at their book and then to Clover. “Are you sure? There is no problem in asking for help, you know.” But Clover did not back down, standing as firmly or as much as their small stature would allow them to. The two adults had to hold in their laughter at how cute the scene was. The brave cowboy standing up against their mom. Leaning down, Martlet petted them on the head, but not ruffling it as much as she would have liked to, due to the care Clover had already put into their hair.
“Alright if you're sure. We’ll start family game night without you. But if you plan to stay over there, call me alright.” Clover smiled as they moved past the two, grabbing their hat before leaving. Opening the front door, Starlo called out. “Go get 'em!” Whilst shooting finger guns to which Clover shot back their own. Leaving the house, the lone cowboy made their way down the street to take the short five minute walk to the Dreemurr home. Yet the short trip felt like an eternity as Clover felt their nerves start to go haywire, as the possibility of rejection loomed over them.
Clover had liked Frisk for a really long time now. After coming back to life the first thing they saw was a bright smile and chestnut hair looking down at them. Only to have Clover shoot up in surprise, bonking Frisk right on the head. But after the awkward first meeting, the both of them had gotten along really well. Becoming fast friends, the two had shared similar interests and hobbies such as anime, western movies, and games. It did not take long for Clover to realize their feelings toward the Human Amasator may not have been fully platonic. Frisk had something about them that always made Clover's heart skip a few beats. Their kindness to others and having the patience of a Saint was astounding. Their laugh and smile. Even their way of somehow always being able to resolve conflicts peacefully. And Clover could not help but fall for the flirtatious human.
Finally, Clover had reached the large mansion house. One fit for the rulers of Monster Kind. It was grand and painted purple, which reminded the human of the Ruins. Steading themself and pushing off a noticeable crease on their hat, Clover marched up the stone steps, knocking on the heavy wooden door. It was not long until their knocking was answered by the one person they did not want to run into. Chara . Their dark and messy hair was a good indicator that they had just been awoken from their after school nap. “Clover? What is it?” They asked with a yawn. “Weren't we all supposed to hangout tomorrow?”
“Is Frisk home?” The other human questioned, feeling their nerves get the better of them, as sweat started to drip from their forehead.
“I mean yeah, but….” They stooped and rubbed their eyes. Those red eyes now refocused, analyzing their emotions, stature, everything . Those eyes could peirce into someone's soul and read them like an open book. “Clover…” They say warningly.
Not backing down from the eldest Dreemurr sibling, Clover took a step forward. “I want to talk to Frisk.” Voice now steady and even.
Quirking up an eyebrow, Chara looked down upon the other as though Clover was on the ground and they were on top of a high mountain. “Oh yeah? And what pray tell do you need my partner for?”
Treading the waters in case Chara went all overprotective sibling on them, Clover tried to be as evasive as possible. “There is a really important thing I want to ask them.” The two were now glaring at one another, neither willing to back down.
The star struck Cowboy vs. The Overprotective Demon.
The two kept the stare off up for a few more seconds before Chara broke. Sighing out deeply and rubbing their forehead, the green striped human pushed the door open some more. Surprise laced Clover’s face as Chara backed down. With a bit of reluctance Chara allowed Clover entry. “You can come in.'' Only for their face to morph into one of sheer protectiveness. “ BUT , if you so much as make them cry, I swear…” The rest was left unsaid. Clover nodded their head, understanding the consequences of hurting Frisk would entail. Moving past Chara, Clover walked inside. Although large and impressive on the outside, the inside of the mansion was a complete juxtaposition. Fuzzy carpets, yellow lights, and a humble display of furniture left the place feeling very homey and warm.
“Frisk is in their room right now. They’re probably listening to music on an ungodly level so, just knock loudly on the door. I mean, it was how you woke me up.” Chara commented, still a bit annoyed at being awoken from their nap. Clover passed by them, making their way up the large wooden steps that spiraled up to a large balcony.
“Good luck, because you are definitely going to need it.” Chara muttered out softly, just enough that Clover could not hear it. Turning left once up the balcony, Clover went through a set of double doors and down a long hallway filled with many rooms, until reaching the last one on the left. A sign with a smiley face written in red marker saying ‘Frisk’s Cool Room’ hung on the door. Just across from it was Chara and Asriel’s room which too had a sign hanging from the middle of the middle of the door saying ‘Asriel and Chara’s Super Cool Room’, with a mix of marker drawn fire and a rainbow on the top.
Knocking loudly on Frisk’s door, Clover heard shuffling and movement until the door was pulled open. Frisk had their headphones around their neck, with a few stickers from Napstablook's band on them. Of course Frisk was wearing their favorite striped sweater. Making a face of confusion, Frisk asked “What are you doing here Clover?” But seizing their chance to flirt, Frisk erased the confusion on their face and replaced it with a smirk Frisk. “Not that I’m complaining cowboy .”
Even though Clover had been dealing with Frisk’s incessant flirting for months now, Frisk still found a way to make them blush. “Sorry for coming over without telling you but um…are you busy at the moment?” Clover asked hesitantly.
“Nah, just doing some drawing is all. Plus Napstablook’s new album just came out so I was listening to it. But, I suppose I could spare a break just…for…you.” Another thing that Clover had slowly gotten used to was Frisk’s love of puns. Where they got it…Clover had a pretty good guess. Choosing to ignore the pun, Clover went inside. The room was filled with color and plushes of all shapes and sizes. Taking a seat on the yellow bean bag chair in the corner of the room, while Frisk opted to sit on the desk. “So…what’s up?” Frisk asked.
Deep breath in and then out. “Well it's just that…”
“Yeah?” Frisk asked with a knowing smile forming on their face.
“We’ve known each other for a while now so…”
“So…?”
“Okay well, you are someone who I think is really cool and nice. You’re a ton of fun to be around and I always enjoy my time with you.” Frisk leaned forward, smiling and blushing hard.
So do you think that we could be…best friends?” Best Friends? Really Clover. You dropped the ball so frapen hard. Clover thought to themself.
Frisk looked intently at Clover who was now sporting a blush, almost matching Chara’s permanent rosy cheeks. “Are you sure that’s what you wanted to ask me?”
“....Yes?” Frisk’s smile took on a more gentle look. “Well technically , Chara and Asriel are my best friends. But since we’re siblings I guess that really doesn't count. So…Sure, we can be best friends.”
Clover let out a breath of air they had not known they were holding in. Disappointed in themself for failing to finally ask Frisk out. Not only that but the questions from their folks at home was going to be a bother. And knowing their mom, everyone in the family will now know about their crush. “Is that all you wanted to do or do you want to hang out for a bit?” Frisk asked as they hopped off the desk.
“Sure, we can hangout. But I need to call home quickly to let them know. Is it alright if I use your guy's home phone?”
“Yeah go ahead. I can get a game ready for us. Do you wanna play Super Fighting Heros?” Not waiting for a response, Frisk was already setting up the console and pulling out a large panda plush that could double as a seat for them.
“Yeah that's fine.” Clover responded as they stepped out of the room.
It took all but a minute for Frisk’s door to re-open with Chara standing in the doorway. “So?” Chara questioned.
Frisk turned their head giggling. “They tried really hard this time. I think this is the closest they have gotten.”
Chara let out a snort. “What is this, the fourth time they tried?”
Nodding, Frisk finished setting the game up for Clover and themself. “Yeah, but it’s really cute. They get closer each time.” Frisk said, unable to help themself from gushing about Clover.
Chara then glared at their younger sibling. “Are you leading them on? Because if so, Frisk that’s really mean.” Frisk panicked at the accusation, shaking their head in denial vehemently.
“No! I'm not leading Clover on, I swear! I really do like them!” Quick to cover their mouth at the realization at how loud they were being. Afraid Clover might have heard.
Chara lost their glare and instead continued on with their questioning.“Then why not just tell them that yourself. If you like them and they like you…what’s the hold up?”
“It's just…” Frisk paused, twiddling their fingers together not wanting to share anymore.
Chara had now caught on to what was happening. “Ohh, is the ‘Flirt Master’ scared of asking Clover out?” Frisk in response puffed out their cheeks but Chara continued. “Jeez, I mean you asked out Papyrus and flirted with practically every monster in the Underground, including Mom. But you're just a big baby when it comes to actual love.” Chara teased.
“That’s different Chara and you know it!” Frisk defended, getting up off the floor. Chara took a step back raising their hand in mock surrender.
“Alright, alright you win. But Frisk, don’t lead them on alright. I care about you, but Clover is also my…. acquaintance ?” Chara said, still not willing to call another human friend, aside from Frisk.
“I’m not leading them on okay. It's just, I don’t know…hard to express that type of thing to them. They're really cool and amazing. Clover keeps trying and I guess…I want them to be the one to ask me…on a date.” Frisk said with a blush.
Frisk then felt a hand on their head as Chara gently patted their head. “Alright, I get it. I apologize for my teasing.” Frisk smiled at their sibling who was quick to take their leave. “Well I’ll let you two dorks have fun. Me and Azzy are gonna watch a movie.” Shutting the door behind them, Frisk was then again alone. Smiling to themself as they turned on the TV getting the game ready. Sure Clover did not ask them out today but maybe they will next time. Frisk could only hope.
Notes:
Yep, Clover got a bit scared in the end but that's okay. Don't worry it will happen...eventually. These two beans are so amazing, and I love writing them together. Plus, after the angsty chapter of last, I thought this one should be more slice of life/Fluff.
Chapter 5: Sick Days

Chapter Text
This truly was the worst. Like the complete worst . Clover thought to themself, laying in bed with several layers of blankets on them. It started last night with a mild cough and an upset stomach, only to be turned into a full blown cold by the morning. Martlet had a really important meeting over the construction of a brand new bridge connecting the monster settlements to more human cities. With her being the head of the project a lot of people were relying on her to get the job done. She was about to just skip the meeting entirely, until Ceroba urged her to go while she and Kanako stayed at her house to watch over the young human. Grateful for the help, she placed a large kiss right on Clover’s forehead as she promised to be back later that evening.
Laying in bed with nothing to do would have been even worse, but since monsters are unable to get the same disease as humans, due to their bodies being made up of magic, Kanako was able to stay in their room to keep Clover company. Sitting in front of the tv on the comfy rug, Kanako scrolled through channel after channel to find something for them both to watch. Finding nothing she moved on to the movies services to find something to rent, when her eyes lit up. “Hey Clover! Wanna watch Mew Mew princess cutie 3? Mom said we could rent a movie and I’ve been dying to watch it!” She called out excitedly, not paying attention to how Clover squirmed in their bed at the loud noise.
“Those movies are lame. Can’t you put on one of Uncle Starlo’s movies? He left a bunch here last time he was over.” The sick human replied with a raspy voice.
“Ugggg. Come on.” Kanako whined. “Just give it a shot?”
Pulling up the covers a bit more to try and stay warm, they rolled their eyes. “That’s what you said about the last two movies. And they both sucked.”
Kanako let out a fake gasp of shock. “Clover! My own cousin using such bad language.” Crossing her arms, shaking her head. “To think that I once saw you as a pure beacon of justice is now nothing more than bandit .” She stated loudly,
“You're being too loud, Kanako. Aunt Ceroba said you were supposed to help take care of me. And all you're doing is hurting my ears.” Clover whined, wanting nothing more to just sleep now, completely forgoing the cowboy movies. Grabbing the ends of the blanket Clover rolled around in them until they formed a cocoon of warmth.
Too bad for Clover, Kanko was not done yet. Letting a minute or two tick by as she waited for her chance. With a sly grin across her furry face, an interesting idea formed. Knowing the perfect way to have a bit of fun and to help their cousin out, she tip-toed her way across the floor. With Clover’s eyes closed and ignoring the world around them, it was the perfect opportunity to strike. At the head of the bed Kanako whispered out, “You wouldn’t be complaining if Frisk was the one taking care of you.”
Clover’s eyes shot open with a blush on their face. Of course right after Clover tried to ask Frisk out last time, Marlet and Starlo found out and proceeded to tell the rest of the family about their crush. The adults found it cute and encouraged them to try again while Kanako…used it to tease them endlessly .
Smiling at the look Clover made she continued on. “I bet if I called Frisk and told them you were sick, they would run all the way over here, just to take care of you.” The Kitsune monster said in a sing-song voice.
“No way!” Clover argued back, still in their make-shift cocoon. “Besides they're probably doing important ambassador stuff.”
“Uh-huh. So if I were to say…call them, you're saying they would not be over in a heartbeat?” To prove her point, she pulled out her cell-phone clicking a few buttons and put the phone screen right up to Clover’s face, with ‘Frisk’ on being shown on the contact list.
“You wouldn’t?” Clover asked, not sure if their cousin would really go through with this. Only to see her clawed finger reach to touch the call button.
“Wait!” They whisper yell, with their scratchy voice. “You have to ask Aunt Ceroba first and she would say no anyway. I’m sick so if Frisk comes over they could get sick too.” They say, trying to find any sort of excuse for her to not make the call. To their horror, Kanako was unfazed as she waved her hand nonchalantly.
“Don’t worry about it. I already asked Mom if they could come over and she said yes.” Clover glared at her, knowing she was completely lying. Standing up, Kanako pressed call. A few seconds passed when the line was picked up.
“Hey Frisk, you busy?” Clover pushed the blankets off and rushed to Kanko to take the phone from her. But in their current state, they were unable to get the phone and was easily pushed back with her hand pressed against their face. “Oh, great! Clover is really sick and I need some help watching them, so can you come over please? Awesome, see you soon!” ‘Click’ and with that, she ended the call.
“Why ( cough) would you do ( cough) that?!” Clover’s tirade was broken as they entered into a coughing fit. Wrapping an arm around their back, Kanako led the sick human back to their bed.
“Hey take it easy okay?” Helping to lift up the covers and tuck their cousin back into bed, Kanako moved to grab a nearby rag. Patting down the sweat from their brow and wiping away any sweat from their warm cheeks, she went to reassure them, now feeling a bit guilty about springing this up on them. “Frisk will be here soon alright. And before you say anything, they got off work early so it's a win win. Now you just close your eyes and rest okay?”
Yawning loudly and feeling exhausted from just getting out of bed, Clover could only offer up a “Kay” before drifting off to sleep.
It did not seem long until Clover opened their eyes again. Their vision is slightly blurry as they look around their room. Spotting Kanako sitting in front of their bedroom tv watching some show.
“Hungry.” Clover says, feeling hunger gnaw at their tummy as they realized they had not eaten anything since last night. Still too tired to get out of bed to make themself something, they hoped that Kanako would hear them. Fortunately they did as their head turned and what Clover assumed was a nod, left the room only to return a few minutes later with a bowl. The figure went to their bed kneeling at their side. Scooping a spoonful of what Clover assumed to be chicken noodle soup, the other moved the spoon near their mouth. “Say ahhh.” Kanako says, as Clover takes the spoon into their mouth. The deliciously warm soup makes their body feel warm and fuzzy taking a bit of the cold feeling away. After taking their first mouthful the spoon is quickly brought back up against their mouth. And so the process repeats until the soup is completely gone.
Smacking their lips at finally having something in their stomach, Clover rubs their eyes, trying to see things clearly. As they do, Clover blinks a few more times and sees an angel right in front of them. Scratch that, they see Frisk , (which to them is pretty much the same in their eyes). Wait, did Frisk just spoon feed me…soup?! Oh gosh, we are not even dating, and we have already did that?! That's like…what couples do!
“Um..hi..Frisk.” They say nervously, trying to maintain their composure.
Smiling, Frisk set the bowl down at the end table. “Hi Clover. How are you feeling?”
“Oh uh, you know…sick.” Smooth move cowboy . Clover thought.
Frisk giggles at their response. Golly, they're cute . Clover thinks. “Well I hope the soup helped with that.”
Nodding Clover moved to sit up a bit. “Yeah it did. Thanks for…you know..” Clover can only hope Frisk thinks that their blush is just the heat of their body from being sick.
Tilting their head, Frisk’s brown hair falls to the side. “For what?” Frisk questions, acting confused.
“You know…”
“Know what? I don’t understand what you're thanking me for Clover.” They say, continuing to play ignorant.
“For feeding me.” The embarrassed cowboy mumbles.
Bringing a hand up to their ear, Frisk leans in close to Clover. “What was that? I couldn’t hear you.”
Huffing in indignation, Clover crossed their arms and pouted. “You know what I said.”
Shaking their head Frisk denied. “Nuh-uh, I couldn’t hear you. You were mumbling.”
“Frisk.” Clover whines.
“Clover.” Frisk responds sarcastically.
Sighing loudly in regret at what they were about to say, Clover gave in to their friend’s demands. “Thank you for feeding me.” They say flatly.
Beaming at Clover saying what they wanted to hear, Frisk pushes a finger on the other’s pouting cheek. “Anytime, partner .”
Although annoyed at having to fess up, Clover did not move from Frisk’s touch. “You're the worst, you know that.”
Nodding in agreement, Frisk removes their finger from Clover’s cheek and moves to grab a remote. To Clover’s shock, Frisk gets on top of the bed and sits next to Clover. With Clover under the covers and Frisk on top of them. “Frisk, I’m sick.”
“So?”
“So, you could get sick too, if you’re this close to me.”
Shrugging their shoulders without care, Frisk bumps their shoulder right next to the still sitting cowboy. “Then I guess if I get sick you’ll just have to take care of me.” Frisk smiles as they press play on some new anime that just came out.
Turing to look at Clover, Frisk nudged them. “You will, won’t you?”
Sighing at Frisk’s antics but taking it with stride, Clover could not deny their request. “Yes.”
“Atta Cowboy .”
Down Stairs
Kanko came down stairs unable to stifle her laughter after listening in on the two humans from behind the bedroom door. This quickly caught Ceroba’s attention as with a pointy claw, motioned for Kanako to come over. Seeing the serious face her mother was showing, she realized that the jig was up and a reckoning was about to occur. Walking from the livingroom to the open kitchen where Ceroba had the stove on making dinner, pointed right to a pulled out chair. Understanding there was no way out of the fox mom’s soon to be lecture, the young kitsune took a seat. “Now Kanako, do you want to explain to me why you did not ask for permission before inviting Frisk over?” The older stated, in a flat tone.
“Well you see, I um…just thought Clover could use the extra company?” Ceroba gave her an unimpressed look.
“It wouldn't have to do with Clover’s crush on them, would it?” Although phrased as a question was most certainly a clear statement.
“I, well…” Kanako filled with her fingers trying to find an excuse but quickly found her head wrapped in a tight furry headlock. Giving her daughter a noogie and messing with her hair Ceroba could not keep up the strict act up any longer. Laughing hard as her daughter tried in vain to escape her grasp.
“You little brat !” She said with a snort. “Pulling something like this, just to get the two closer.” Ceroba gave her a few more tussles with her hair before she let her daughter go. “You really are your fathers kid? He would have been proud.” Her smile then drifted from warm laughter to a reminiscent smile. Patting Kanako and giving one last playful ruffle of her hair, Cerboa returned back to the stove.
Kanako still remained on the chair, squirming a bit. “So, I’m not in trouble?”
“Well you did not ask persimmon and invited someone over to the house that is not even ours. But , you did help out your cousin with their romantic issue and you have been watching over them today, so I guess I can’t be too mad.” Breathing out a sigh of relief was short lived as a ladle covered in pasta sauce was pointed right at her nose. “But don’t think I don’t know you were also messing with your cousin. You owe them an apology later.”
Kanako offered no protest, accepting the punishment . “Yes mom.” Nodding, Cerboa returned back to stirring only to feel Kanako hug her from behind. “Love you mom.”
“Love you lots.” Ceroba said with a gentle smile.
Notes:
Thank you all so much for the amazing feedback and interest in this silly story. Fun fact, I am writing this as a result of being sick. So, how's that for inspiration. Anyway, hope you enjoyed, and I will once more see you all in the next instalment.
Chapter 6: Monthly Meetings
Summary:
The fallen humans and one monster hold their monthly meetings. Everyone opens up about their problems except for one human.
Notes:
Sorry that this took so long to get out. New job and applying to grad schools took a lot of my time. Quick thanks to my beta reader AnotherShamelessSelfInsert for helping me with this chapter. Anyway, hopefully next time won't take so long. Already have a good idea even if I'm a bit late to the party with it. Hopefully it will be out soon along with my other fic since I have a few days off.
Chapter Text
Snacks, set . Soda and juice boxes, ready. Comfy pillows, (plop) perfect . After going over the checklist of items and the spread on the large coffee table, Clover was happy with the results. Everything was set and ready for the monthly meeting. Unfortunately, the other souls couldn’t make it to this meeting, in part because Asgore was going to be in HomeTown today on business with some of the human politicians in the local area. Sure, it has been a few months since the barrier fell and all of them got their bodies back, but it does not mean there wasn’t still some…trauma from the entire thing. So it’s still a bit hard being around the big guy. Clover is alright around him but still can’t help being a little weary at times. However, despite difficulties, they have slowly gotten used to him and had hoped that one day all the other souls could let things be water under the bridge. Admittedly though, that would not be for quite some time.
As for the meetings themself, it was an idea spurred by Asriel, to help work through their problems by talking things out. The majority of the conversations typically revolved around the nightmares of what happened in the Underground, fighting monsters, and….dying. It got dark at times, but they all tried hard to keep their heads up and work through it together. But a box of tissues was on constant standby.
The formation of the group also didn’t occur without any hiccups. Out of the entire group of ten, it was actually Chara who raised the biggest fuss about the entire thing. Saying how, “Everything is fine now, we don’t need to bring up old stuff.” or that “No, I do not have nightmares Asriel. You’re just imagining me cry at night!”
It was tough, but Chara did eventually consider it and eventually started to attend the meetings. It was not long into the meeting, (when discussing the dying part), that Chara broke down, apologizing to everyone about what happened. Blaming themself for all that occurred in the Underground and how sorry they were. However, before the eldest human of the group could spiral further down into despair, Chara was glomped in a large group hug by the others. While everyone was either telling Chara how it’s “Not your fault”, a few even saying “I forgive you”, they were all quickly drowned out by Asriel’s cries.
In the end, Chara and Asriel were holding on to each other, refusing to let go as they both sat on the large couch of the Dreemurr home. Wiping away a few stray tears from their face, Chara looked Asriel in the eyes and smiled.“You are still such a big cry baby.”
Sniffling and hiccuping Asriel retorted. “Y..you’re crying too.”
Wiping away the rest of the tears with their sleeves, Chara shook their head. “Am not”
“Are too!”
In short, Chara’s first meeting was a very… emotional one. While still not fully comfortable with the meetings, they’ve been sharing more as time has passed, and so these monthly meetings went on. Sometimes they were more subdued and relaxed, just talking about what was happening in their life or making plans to do group hang outs outside of these meetings. Then others like the one with Chara would happen where someone, (or everyone), spilled out their feelings.
All, that is, except for Clover .
Clover’s good at keeping a rather tight lid on their issues . The only time Clover had ever even come close to showing just how hurt they were was with Martlet at the mall. Their mom had tried on more than one occasion to breach the topic,But Clover had avoided it expertly each time. Changing the subject or dodging entirely. She was getting desperate in trying to help her kid, knowing that there was something beneath the surface trying to break out. Discussing the issue with Ceroba, Starlo, and Toriel, they had all tried to have Clover open up to them. They thought that the child would be more comfortable talking with one of the other adults, that was their logic at least. But, time and time again, Clover kept their emotions locked up. It even came to the point that Martlet went to Marine, the soul of patience, hoping that she could offer any insight over what Clover was hiding, catching her after one of the meetings to talk with her. Unfortunately for Martlet, Marine told her that Clover did not talk about themselves much at any of the meetings. The cowboy always seemed more content to help out the others with their emotional baggage, and never unloaded their own.
But Martlet didn’t leave empty handed, with Marine giving them a big clue on what was bothering the young human, as whenever the topic of parents or life before the Underground was brought up, Clover always stiffened just a little. Their shoulders tensing up, eyes a bit wider, and brow creasing as if they were deep in thought.
Martlet was troubled by the revelations, not because they surprised the bird monster, but confirmed her suspicions. Asking Marine not to tell the others about this conversation, so as to not have her child close themself off more than they already have. After the meeting was held with all the other children going home, the MoMster tucked her child into their oversized bed, giving them a quick peck on the forehead. Shutting the door and making her way downstairs, she sat on her favorite chair and contemplated. ‘Wood is so much easier than this.’ Martlet thought to herself, frustrated. ‘I can always change things, or restart from scratch if I don't like the end result…but Clover isn’t wood. They are so much more complicated than wood.’ She ended up staying up all night trying to find the best way to help her kid. After much deliberation and careful thought over how and who could best help Clover, she shot up like lightning from her chair with a wonderful idea.
***********************************************************************************************
When Clover came down stairs, bandana still on and wiping away the sleep from their eyes, the young human saw their mom already making breakfast. Going up behind her and giving her a big sleepy hug to her leg, (the top of Clover’s head only reaching up to her waist). Patting her child on the head, brushing away the messy hair to get a better look at their face, she smiled. “Good morning sleepy head. How are you feeling?”
Rubbing their face into her leg, tiredly they responded. “Fine.” They yawned. “I slept good.”
“Well I’m glad honey. Go ahead and take a seat, your friend will be here soon.”
Confused, Clover muffledly asked “Friend?”
Giving a playful wink she scooted Clover away. “It’s a surprise.”
Puffing out their cheeks, getting a chuckle from their mom in response, they went and took their spot at the table. Not long after, the doorbell rang, Martlet quickly going over to the front door, greeting her guest with a smile, leading him into the kitchen. Walking in with soft foot falls and floppy ears jumping, the caprine smiled brightly at Clover. “Howdy and good morning Clover!”
A bit surprised by Asriel being here this early in the morning, but not complaining about it in the slightest, they gave a small wave themself. “Goodmorning Asriel.”They yawn once more, causing Asriel to smile softly at them.
“Still sleepy huh?” The caprine chuckled.
“Yeah” It was silent for a minute, before Clover continued speaking. “…so uh…mom invited you?”
“Yep!” He replied, taking a seat and refusing to elaborate any further.
While suspicious of their friend’s intentions, it was quickly ignored in favor of the array of food their mom brought to the table. Bacon, eggs, and fruit! Both thanking Martlet for the food, they dug in. “Hey you two, I have some errands to run.” Martlet said, putting the dirty pans and dishes away. “Will you be okay by yourselves for an hour or so?”
Nodding his head, causing his ears to flop up and down, the little monarch gave a toothy grin.“Sure thing Ms. Martlet! Me and Clover will be alright.”
Clover shot her a thumbs up, Martlet responding with finger guns. Leaving the house, the bird monster was happy to know that Asriel will be able to help her child.
After a minute or so of silence, Asriel spoke up. “So…you gonna stay in your pj’s the whole day?”
Looking down at themselves and then up to the clock on the wall showing it was already 10 am, the young human rushed upstairs to change, Asriel following behind. Waiting outside for his friend to finish getting ready, the young monster was mentally preparing himself for the upcoming conversation.
Coming out of their bedroom with some plain clothes, but still wearing their signature bandana, Asriel quickly spoke up. “Hey Clover, do you mind if we talk?”
“Sure, is something wrong?” Clover questioned confusedly, opening up their door to let Asriel in.
Going over to sit on the bed, Asriel took a deep breath, trying to get his fidgeting under control as he asked. “Clover…are you alright?”
Taken a little off guard, Clover’s brow creased in confusion. “Yeah?” The human questioned. “I mean, why wouldn’t I be?”
“Well it's just that, you don’t really talk at the meetings.” Asriel started, before quickly reeling from how that sounded. “Not that that's a bad thing! If you don’t want to talk, that’s completely fine! But I just wanted to make sure that everything is okay-”
“I’m fine Azzy.” Clover cut him off with a slightly forced smile. “I just don’t really have anything to contribute. That’s all .”
Asriel saw right through the fib however, and decided to press a bit harder. “Clover, I know something is wrong. You can talk to me!” He earnestly offered.
“Asriel.” Clover said with a bit more force, gritting their teeth slightly. I’m fine.”
“No you're not!” Asriel finally burst with emotion, standing from the bed. “Anytime we talk about our parents, our life before falling into the Underground, you always get so tense and quiet, you clearly need someone to talk to!.”
“There is nothing to talk about!” Clover shouts back, frustrated at their friend’s insistence. “I’m fine! There is nothing to talk about!”
Just as Asriel looked like he would continue to argue, he stopped talking, shock spreading across his face. Confused as to what was happening, Clover felt something on their cheeks, bringing a hand up to feel tears rolling down. “I…I’m fine.” They stubbornly stated, stumbling back onto the floor, head firmly in their hands. “Okay. I…I’m fine.”
Asriel took a hesitant step forward, not wanting to startle their friend in their state, but the lack of reaction had him quickly closing the gap between the two, Asriel wrapping Clover in a tight hug. “Please talk to me, Clover.” He pleaded. “I ( hiccup ) just wanna help.” Now it was the sensitive monster’s turn to start getting upset. Not at their friend yelling at them, but because he knew his friend was hurting.
Sitting in silence for an unknown amount of time, simply enjoying the comfort their friend was giving them, Clover cracked. “I didn’t have a happy home before Martlet.” They whispered into their friend's shoulder. “I was never good enough for my parents. Especially when I told them how I wanted to be called.” Clover confessed, gripping onto Asriel as tightly as they could. “It hurt so much . I tried Azzy, I really tried but…it was never enough.” Clover seemed close to sobbing now, emotions closing up their throat. “But with mom…even when I mess up she is so… nice to me.” Asriel just held their friend closer, trying to provide as much comfort as he could.
“Then, in the Underground, I was h-hurt even more.” They took in a shaky breath, steadying their voice as they continued. “I still have nightmares.”
“So do I.” Asriel responded, empathizing with the human. “I was pretty bad until the meetings actually. It got a lot better when I started talking about it.” Asriel confided, pulling back slightly to look Clover in the eye. “So you don’t have to do this all alone!” He said, determination lacing his voice. “We're here to help you. We’re friends, and friends help each other out!”
Swallowing their fear and trepidation, Clover looked back at the prince. “I…just don’t think I’m ready yet.” They admitted, slightly ashamed.
Nodding, the caprine smiled. “That’s okay!” He comforted them. “You can do it whenever you feel comfortable. I just want you to know that you can always talk to us.”
A soft smile graced the cowboy’s face as they softly whispered out. “...Thanks Azzy. I mean it.”
“No problem. What are friends for?” Finally breaking off the hug, Clover went over to their tv and pulled out two gaming controllers.
“Come on, mom won’t be back for a bit, you wanna play something?” Asriel gave a quick nod, wiping away his tears as he went to sit next to Clover. Putting on ‘Minecrap’ the two began to play, happy that the emotional conversation didn’t ruin the surprise visit. Although Clover hadn’t gone into detail into what their issues were, they had been reminded of a very important lesson…
That they could always rely on their friends for help.
Chapter 7: Valentines Day
Summary:
The day of love has finally arrived. And Clover has a special someone who he wants to be their Valentine.
Notes:
Yeah yeah, I know I'm late to this. But I would like to point out that I began writing this chapter on Valentine's Day so...it technically counts.

Chapter Text
Okay ! This is the day. Clover thought, pumping themselves up. I am finally going to do it. No backing out now. I am finally going to ask Frisk out! February 14th was here and there was no escaping it: Valentines was in full swing in HomeTown, with love most certainly in the air. People were exchanging chocolates or gifts to those they love and care about, Going on dates or simply enjoying the festivities.
What better time to finally ask the Human-Monster Ambasador out. They have tried and failed on numerous occasions, but this was it. They were going to do it this time! They had gotten up extra early to get ready, brushed their usually messy hair, put on their nicest shirt, and grabbed the small box of chocolates their Mom bought for them to give to Frisk. Heading out the door and making their way to school, the young human had an extra pep to their step, almost skipping with happiness, because today was going to be a great day!
Unfortunately, the butterflies came with a vengeance. Palms getting sweaty, throat clenched with trepidation, and finding their mouth to be rather dry. Shaking their head side to side, getting curious looks from their fellow students as they walked past them, Clover steeled their resolve. NO ! I’m going to do this. Clover gathered their strength. Going to the crowds of humans and monsters, Clover tried to spot Frisk amongst the sea of students. Not seeing them anywhere, Clover headed to their locker, hoping they hadn’t gone to class yet. Bingo !
Standing in front of their locker, Frisk pushed back several strands of hair from their face while talking animatedly with some of the nearby students. Rats ! Too many people. If I’m gonna do this ( And I am ) then I’m going to need to get Frisk alone . Face lighting up like a Christmas tree as Clover thought of getting Frisk alone. On Valentine's day. Scandalous .
No sweeter sound could have been heard that day than the school bell going off. Students hurriedly shut their lockers or left the cafeteria to make their way to morning class. Seeing as the people Frisk was talking to were saying their goodbyes, Clover made their move. Sliding in between students, both big and small (some of them almost reaching the ceiling) Clover caught up to Frisk as they closed their locker. “Hey Frisk!” Clover called out amongst the loudness of the hallway.
Turning to see their approach, Frisk quickly shoved their hand into their bag. “O..oh hi Clover. Um, sorry but I have to get to class.” They rambled, quickly walking away.
Grabbing Frisk’s hand, Clover shot them a pleading look. “Wait, please. There's something I have to tell you. Do you think we could meet up after school, by the playground maybe?”
Frisk, a bit stunned by their friend's abruptness, curiously looked at them. “I…yeah. There is actually something I need to talk to you about too.” They admitted.
“Okay….cool…yeah….really cool.”
Frisk tugged their hand a bit. “Hey, you're still holding on.” They teased.
Looking down and realizing that yes, they were still holding on tightly to their potential partner, they quickly let go. With a giggle and a small wave, Frisk took off. Though not before stopping and yelling back to them, “And wash your hands! They're pretty sweaty!” Clover glanced at their hands, finding them to still be sweating, likely from how nervous they were to get Frisk alone to ask them out, embarrassingly wiping them on their pants. Luckily the hallway was still a bit too crowded, so Frisk’s yelling didn’t turn any heads. But still, why did Frisk always have to tease them? And only them…
Going to class and sitting through it, Clover could not keep their mind off of Frisk. Not that it was abnormal as they tended to daydream about the other quite a bit. Going on picnics, rollerblading, or snuggling while watching a scary movie. But it was one thing to daydream, and another to make it a reality. So for the rest of the day, Clover just sat and daydreamed. Sure, their heart was constantly pumping and feeling nauseous at the possibility of Frisk rejecting them, their friendship being totally and completely ruined, but still. Clover was a big dreamer. Maybe that's why I want to ask out a Dreemur . They thought as their teacher drawled on about some new math equation.
Not sharing any classes or lunch with Frisk was a let down at the beginning of the school year, but Clover couldn’t help but view it as a blessing now. Had Frisk and them shared classes, they're pretty sure they would just be staring at them the entire period. Well, either that or throw up due to their nerves. Speaking of, lunch finally rolled around. Grabbing their ‘Sheriff of the Wild West’ lunch box, Clover went to the cafeteria, trying to find Chara. Scanning the large area, they quickly spot the older human in the far back of the lunchroom, eating by themselves. (Not that Chara didn’t want to or even minded when others sat by them, just that they preferred solitude). Casually taking a seat next to the other, Clover opened up their lunch box, smiling at the star shaped sandwich their mom packed for them. Even the crust is removed?! This just proves today is going to be a great day . They thought to themselves again, trying to keep positive while their mind was filled with a ton of ‘what ifs’ from how asking Frisk out could go so wrong.
“So…are you actually going to do it this time?” Chara asked, fixing their posture as they gently put down their fork.
Swallowing the bit of sandwich they had taken a bite out of, Clover nodded and pressed their fist to where their heart is. “I am!” They confidently stated. “Today is finally going to be the day.”
Tsk . Chara reached into their pockets, pulling out a handkerchief. “You could at the very least look presentable.” Leaning in, Chara wiped a bit of peanut butter off of Clover’s cheek. “This is my sibling after all. So if you are really going to do this then you're going to do this right.”
Clover gave a muffled protest at being treated like a little kid, but quickly resigned themselves when Chara shot them a hard look. After cleaning Clover’s face, Chara put their handkerchief back into their pocket. “There, now at least you don’t look like a total slob.”
“I was eating.” Clover shot back.
Chara gave a huff and, placing a hand on their chest, gave a haughty look. “Then you can eat with a bit more grace.”
“Says the one who downs any chocolate like it's their last meal.” Clover retorted, thinking about how animalistic Chara could get when their favorite candy was in the nearby vicinity.
Feeling their blood pressure rise slightly from their friend’s ‘accusation’ Chara sputtered out. “I…you…” Sighing, they decided it was easier to let it go. “Whatever. Just hurry up and eat.”
Brow raising Clover questioned, “Why?”
“ Because , we need to sneak to my locker so I can help you out.”
“Help me with what?”
“With all of….that.” Chara stated as they motioned their hand towards Clover’s face.
“Hey!” Clover responded, slightly offended.
“It will be just a bit of make-up. It will help your face glow. Nothing too fancy.” Chara responded with a half hazardous wave.
Knowing that there was no escape from this, (especially with how overprotective and demanding Chara could be), Clover quickly finished up their lunch, mindful to not get any smears on their clothes or face, Lest they suffer Chara’s ire. Once both were done, the two snuck off from the cafeteria, heading straight to Chara’s locker on the second floor of the school. Opening up the green locker, Chara pulled out a small make-up bag, the DeltaRune symbol displayed on it. Having Clover stand still, Chara leaned down and started to apply a bit of foundation to Clover’s face. Not too much to make them look like a clown in a kids fun house, but just enough to give that extra ‘Umph’ to their appearance.
Once finished, Chara tilted their head back and forth. Nodding and smiling at their handy work, Chara patted Clover’s shoulder. “Now you look half-way decent enough for Frisk.”
Offering Clover a pocket mirror, Clover took in their updated look. Eyes shining a small yellow hue at how nice they looked, they gave Chara a bright smile. “Thanks Chara! I really appreciate it.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Chara said emotionlessly, but could not stop the small smile on their face. “So, when are you going to ask Frisk?”
“After school. I told them to meet me at the park and-” Clover suddenly stopped, growing a thoughtful expression.
“Something the matter?” Chara questioned.
“It's just that….Frisk also had something to tell me.” Clover replied, still deep in thought.
Hand going up to their forehead, Chara shook their head. “These idiots.” Chara softly said, but Clover was off in their own little world, too busy pondering what Frisk had to tell them to notice Chara’s reaction or comment.
“Come on, lunch is almost over and I don’t feel like getting in trouble.” Chara stated, dragging Clover back to the cafeteria.
Once lunch was over, Clover went back to class, waiting for the school day to finally end as they went back to daydreaming. It felt like an eternity, but once the bell finally did ring, they raced out of the room, ignoring their teacher yelling at them to “Not run in the hallway!” Rushing to their locker and pulling out their backpack, they went straight out of the school doors and headed right to the nearby park. Finding the park benches, but not seeing anyone there, (nor Frisk), they allowed themselves to take a deep breath. Sitting down, they pulled out a small box from their bag. The present was pink with a cute red ribbon wrapped around it, forming a small heart. After a few minutes of anxiously waiting, Clover finally saw Frisk approaching. Heart thumping inside their chest, to the point it felt like it could explode from sheer nerves, the cowboy swallowed hard, adjusted their hat and stood.
“H-hey Frisk. Glad you could make it.” They nervously say, trying not to stumble on their words.
With their hands behind their back, Frisk nervously twitched. “Y-yeah. S-same….I um…got you something.” Frisk moved their arms from behind them, revealing a brightly colored box filled with heart shaped chocolates. “H-Happy Valentines Day Clover! Chara helped me make the chocolate and Azzy with making the box.”
“Oh…wow Frisk…this is really sweet.” Clover said, too stunned by the gesture to properly react. “Thank you. I…uh…got something for you as well.” Clover quickly handed Frisk their own box, which was opened with a curious expression, soon replaced with a loving smile. Inside the box were two pink hair pins. “Here, let me just-” Clover took the two hair pins out, pulling their friend’s hair back, Clover could now see Frisk’s eyes clearly with their hair finally out of their face. Seeing Frisk’s dull red eyes always filled Clover with warmth, with this being no exception. Especially since said warmth was shown on their face with how red their cheeks were.
Seeing Clover’s reaction, Frisk ran a hand through their hair, looking away embarrassedly. “Do you really think I look that good?”
“Yeah…I mean yes! I mean that, you uh…look nice.” They stumbled out.
Chuckling a bit, having succeeded at flustering the other, Frisk’s eyes met the other’s. “Hey Clover.”
“Yeah?” Clover asked
“Do you have anyone you like?”
“I like a lot of people.” Clover bluntly replied, not understanding the question.
Shaking their head, Frisk gave out an exasperated sigh. “No like, do you have anyone you like ?”
Catching on now, Clover started thinking. Okay Clover, luck is on your side today. Frisk has given you the perfect opportunity. Don’t freaking blow it! “Do you have anyone you like?”
“Hey! You can’t just answer a question with a question.” Frisk argued with their cheeks puffed out, pouting.
Dipping their hat down slightly, Clover did their best to hide their quickly reddening face from Frisk. “Well…I mean, maybe ?”
Moving closer to Clover, Frisk put their hands together and pleaded.“Come on cowboy , tell me?”
“There…is someone that I admire.” He bashfully admitted.
“Who?” Frisk’s face was practically right next to Clover's now, eyes staring intently at the other.
…..Clover’s mind was abuzz. If they mess this up then it's all over. They have to get this right! They screamed inside of their head. “You.” They quietly said, but it was still more than loud enough for Frisk to hear.
“I see.” Frisk responded, making Clover’s heart plummet. But, refusing to give into despair, they pushed forward. “So…do you want to maybe go to the movies sometime?” They nervously asked, hoping they didn’t make a mistake. Finally meeting Frisk’s eyes, they saw a bright smile covering their face.
“Sure! I’d love that.” They agreed, sending Clover’s spirit’s soaring upwards. “How about next Saturday?” Frisk asked, excitement lacing their voice.
Clover looked at Frisk, failing to keep the giant smile off of their face as they try to calm themself. “Sure! I mean yeah. That works for me.” They tried to nonchalantly say. “So, Saturday at say…12pm?”
Frisk nodded their head, their phone interrupting the lovely moment as it rings. Looking at it, Frisk gave Clover an apologetic smile. “Sorry but mom is calling me home. I have to go, but I'll see you later!”
“Yeah, see you.” Clover said with little expression as they saw Frisk walk away, shock settling in from everything that just happened. Did I seriously just ask Frisk out on a date ? Clover wondered in their own little world of happiness.
But unbeknownst to Clover, as soon as Frisk turned away, their face became bright red. They did it ! I have an actual date with Clover ! Shoot, what am I going to wear? Frisk’s mind spiraled as they thought about their upcoming date.

Chapter Text
The walkie talkie buzzed with sound as Chara hid in the bushes. PZZZZZ “This is Demon Overlord, do you copy, over?”
Another buzz came from the walkie talkie. “Hyper Hero hears you loud and clear, over.”
Looking around and seeing several people pass by Chara kept an eye out for the targets. Looking at the watch on their wrist, Chara noticed that it was almost 5 pm. Lifting the walkie up to their mouth, Chara pressed the button on the side of the machine and spoke. “The falcon and the Sheriff are due to arrive at any minute. Keep a sharp eye out.”
Just on cue, a minivan pulled into the parking lot. Grabbing a pair of binoculars out of their backpack, Chara saw Clover step out of the vehicle. Moving over to the driver side window, Clover stood on their tiptoes as Martlet stretched out her arms as the two gave a quick embrace before saying goodbye. Walking across the parking lot, Clover went over to a nearby bench. Plopping down, Clover anxiously waited for Frisk’s arrival as they kicked their feet and fiddled with their hat.
PZZZZZZZ! The walkie went off again, getting Chara’s attention off of Clover. “Hyper Hero reporting in. I see the angel! Repeat. the angel has landed.” Raising the binoculars again, Chara scanned the parking lot until spotting their sibling walking on the sidewalk. Stopping and raising their hand to cover the setting sun’s blinding rays from their eyes, Frisk was able to spot Clover. With a smile, Frisk hurried over with an extra pep to their step to where Clover was sitting. Catching Frisk in their peripheral vision, Clover blushed at seeing them wearing a flowery sundress.
Fixing their button up collar and doing their best to unwrinkle their jacket, Clover stood up greeting Frisk. “Hey-ya Frisk, you look really nice in that dress.”
Frisk’s eyes widen just a bit at the boldness of their partner. Dang it ! They got the first hit on me . It seems their flirting power is greater than I thought .
Composing themself, Frisk replied with a sweet tone, “Thank you Clover, that's really sweet. You look nice as well.” Scanning Clover’s attire, Frisk asked, “Hey- is that a new hat?”
Nodding, they reached up and took their hat off, presenting it to Frisk as though it was a golden crown. “Sure is! Been saving up a bit of my allowance and bought this bad boy and my new shirt.” They said, gesturing to their button up.
Putting a finger to their cheek, Frisk tilted their head to the side. “Oh? Does that mean you went out and bought new clothes just for the date with me?”
“W-well I mean yeah. I-um…wanted to look nice and everything.” Clover sputtered out before taking another glance at Frisk's dress. “Hold on, I’ve never seen you wear that dress before.”
Now it was Frisk’s turn to try and find their words. “Well, you know…” Frisk says as they scratch the back of their head. “You want to look nice for the first date, right ?”
“I guess so.” They say with a small chuckle. “Anyway, the movie starts in like 10 minutes. You wanna head on in?”
“Sure.” Was all Frisk said as the two made their way towards the theater. About half-way near the building, Clover’s hand accidentally brushes up against Frisk’s. Clover was about to move their hand away until Frisk grasped onto theirs. Looking down at their now interlocked fingers, Clover looks up at Frisk who is staring forward, as though nothing is out of the ordinary. Gulping down their anxiety, Clover gives a small squeeze to Frisk’s soft hand, as a huge smile forms on their face. Clover has to fight the instinct not to yell in happiness. So instead, they do their best to remain calm and cool, just like Papyrus told them to do a few hours ago.
As before Clover left with Martlet for their date with Frisk, Papyrus just so happened to be on a walk and passed by their house right as the mother-child duo were about to leave. Being polite and saying hello, Papyrus inquired as to where they were adventuring off to. Unable to fight off their happiness, Clover shouted out “I’ve got a date!” Only to quiet down a bit as they realize how loud they said it. Martlet could only laugh at their child’s adorable antics. Papyrus, meanwhile, grew ecstatic as he just so happened to be a love expert. He went on to tell Clover about how he taught Frisk the proper etiquette of dating back when they were in the Underground, and he was more than willing to share his wisdom to Clover.
Sparkles shot out of Clover's eyes as they let go of Martlet’s wing and almost barreled into the skeleton monster. Grabbing onto his ‘Cool guy’ Shirt, Clover asked (or rather demanded) him to share his teachings. Papyrus then spent the next few minutes giving a couple of pointers on how to best treat someone on a date. One very important topic was over the issue of puddles. “Now then, tiny human! If there so happens to be a puddle you are to lay a piece of your clothes down so that your partner can safely walk across without dirtying their shoes.”
Back to the present, while on the sidewalk there just so happened to be a small puddle on the ground. Most likely from the rain the other night. Seeing their opportunity to impress Frisk, Clover, without any hesitation took off their jacket and laid it on top of the puddle. With a gesture of their hands, they motioned for Frisk to walk across, only to see Frisk’s confused face. “Clover? Why did you put your jacket on the ground? Look, (They pointed out with their index finger) it's wet now.” Frisk stated, as their jacket had started to absorb the water from the puddle.
Raising an eyebrow, Clover shot Frisk a curious look. “What do you mean? If there's a puddle on the ground, you lay your jacket down on it so your partner can walk across without getting their shoes dirty.” Clover said as though it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Frisk could not handle it and burst out laughing. Tears were even coming out as they kept laughing and holding their stomach until after a bit it turned into soft giggles. Wiping away their tears, Frisk gave a wobbly smile as they asked, “And who told you that?”
“Papyrus.” The other replied with a blank expression, already feeling as though they messed up if Frisk’s laughter was anything to go on.
Sighing, Frisk shook their head. “Yep, that would do it.”
“What do you mean?” They asked, with their brow creasing in confusion.
“Papyrus means well, trust me . He’s super sweet but that sort of stuff only happens in movies. Which admittedly we did watch a ton of.”
Looking a bit dejected, Clover looked at their feet. “Oh.”
“ But …” Frisk walked around the puddle and lifted up the now soggy jacket. “I think that was a super cool thing for you to do. Like a true gentleman”
“Really!?” Clover blurted out; a bit shocked that their actions did in fact go over well with Frisk.
Nodding, Frisk bounced slightly on their feet. “Totally! You went ahead and laid your jacket down so I would not get dirty. You really are a charmer, aren't cha.”
Intentional or not, it did the trick . I impressed Frisk even if not in the exact way I thought. I really need to thank Papyrus later . Clover thought to themself as they took their wet jacket from Frisk’s hands.
“Now, as much as I love eating strange food as the next guy, I think we should hurry inside to wash our hands. I really don’t feel like eating popcorn with bits of street water and dirt.” Raising their dirty hands to show Clover exactly what they meant, the young cowboy stuck out their tongue at the thought of eating that. Agreeing with Frisk, the two walked inside the building, where Clover found a small section of racks to put their wet jacket on to dry. While Frisk made a b-line to the restrooms to get cleaned up. Now with clean hands, the two bought their tickets and snacks before going into their designated viewing room to watch the movie.
Meanwhile-
“Shoot, I lost visuals on both targets. Hyper do you have any visual?!” Chara yelled into their walkie.
“Nope, nothing.” Asriel replied back.
“Looks like we're going into the lion's den. Be on your guard.” Chara warned, as they stood up out of the brush.
Asriel too stood up and out of his hiding spot from the other side of the street, where he called out. “Hey, can we buy snacks?”
“Well duh? Even spies need to eat.” Chara commented as they both went into the theater. Seeing Frisk and Clover from a distance, Chara took note of which movie the two knuckleheads were going to go see. Going up to the ticket counter, Chara bought two tickets to the same movie, but not before they and Asriel stopped by the food court and bought a boat load of snacks.
Walking down the hallway to their room carrying their bounty, Chara began munching on a chocolate bar. “You know Chara, Clover is doing a pretty good job on the date so far.”
Swallowing a particularly large piece of chocolate, Chara nodded. “Yeah they are. But , the true test has yet to occur.”
Wearing a shocked expression, Asriel turned to face their sibling. “Wait Chara, isn’t it too soon for them to even attempt that sort of thing?”
Smirking to themself Chara reached into the popcorn bucket Asriel was carrying and threw a kernel into their mouth. “The arm over the shoulder is a classic staple of all movie dates. If Clover is truly serious about dating our sibling then they better be ready to pull out all the stops.”
Inside Theatre Room 11-
Sitting near the top middle area, Clover and Frisk laid out all of their goodies. Getting comfortable in the soft red seats the two sat quietly as the movie began. Unbeknownst to them, Chara and Asriel were but a few feet away, hidden in a darker part of the theater as not to be seen. Around the half-way mark of the film Clover was beginning to lose interest in the movie. Not because the movie was boring, it was actually right up their alley, a comedy about a bunch of friends on a road trip across the world. But instead, what was keeping their interest averted from the big screen was the person on their right. Clover kept shooting longer and longer glances at Frisk. Staring at them and thinking about how cute Frisk’s smile was, how their eyes lit up beautifully at the action scenes, or even about how nice it would be to hug them. Come Clover, you’re already here. No time to back out. It's high noon, the perfect time to take your shot .
Slowly, as best they could while staring at the screen so as to not alert Frisk, Clover brought their arm towards Frisk’s shoulder. Just a bit closer and… Clover’s forearm was blocked from reaching over Frisk’s shoulder by something else. Looking to see what it was, they saw Frisk’s arm in a similar fashion being blocked by their own arm. The two stared at each other as Clover quietly whispered out “What are you doing?”
“What are you doing?” Frisk replied, as both their arms still hung in the air.
“Well, we’re in a theater and on a date so, I thought that I would…you know.” They trail off.
Looking at Clover’s arm, Frisk giggled. “Were we just about to do the same thing?”
Smiling, Clover nodded. “Yeah, I guess we were. So, if you would excuse me.” Clover pushed Frisk’s arm to try and drape it over their shoulder, only to be met by resistance.
Pushing back Clover’s arm and trying to get the upper hand, Frisk gave out a tsk. “Nuh uh. I wanna do it.”
“Well, I thought of it first.” Clover shot back.
“No, I did!” Frisk whisper yelled.
The two were locked in a battle, neither giving up an inch of territory as they battled for the other's shoulder. But after an intense engagement, Frisk was the one who ultimately caved in. Smiling in victory, Clover laid their arm over Frisk, who snuggled closer to the other. Laying their head on Clover’s collarbone, Frisk let out a content sigh. “You know, I totally could have beaten you.”
“Sure you could have. That’s why you threw in the towel right?” Clover shot back sarcastically with a roll of their eyes.
“Yep, but since I didn’t want to hurt your ego, I went ahead and gave you the win. As such I think I deserve a reward for being so nice.”
Clover cocked their head to the side. “And that would be?”
“Ice cream. Your treat.”
Giving out a huff, Clover agreed. “Fine.”
Giving a playful hit to their chest, Frisk looked up at Clover. “Hey, that’s not a bad deal. You buy me ice cream, and in exchange you get to hold someone as cute as me.”
Blushing at how true that was, Clover gave a gentle squeeze to Frisk’s shoulder. “Yeah, I guess that's fair.”
A couple of feet from the two, Asriel poked Chara's side. “Hey, there-” Only to be cut off by Chara’s shushing.
“This is a really good part.” Chara whispers.
“But-”
“Shhhhhh.” They say as Chara places a finger right on Asriel’s snoot.
Asriel could only shake his head. I ’ ll just tell them later then. He thinks to himself, happy in knowing Frisk found someone as nice as Clover to be with.
A bit later, once the movie ended, Chara was now sufficiently satisfied by the results of the date and made their leave with Asriel back home. Leaving Clover and Frisk all by themselves outside of the theater as Toriel and Martlet had yet to arrive to pick them up. Not that they needed to be picked up as their houses were pretty close and with how safe the town was there was no real threat of danger. Rather it was about how both moms wanted to hear their kids talk about how the date went as soon as possible.
Standing ideally around while waiting to be picked up, Frisk let out a sly smile as they pulled on Clover’s sleeve. “Hey, since we have time, how about that ice cream?”
“Yeah sure, I guess I do owe you.” Clover admitted as they pulled out their phone to text both their mom and Toriel about where they were heading, so as to be picked up outside of the ice cream parlor.
Reaching out, Frisk offered their hand. “Yep, you certainly do.”
Accepting said hand, Clover took hold as they enjoyed a peaceful stroll down to the ice cream shop.
Going inside, the two quickly found a booth to sit in. Looking over the menu, Clover was about to decide what to get until Frisk said they had to use the restroom and for them to order for the both of them. Trying to find something that Frisk would like, Clover looked through the whole menu until they saw a perfect thing. Coming back, Frisk took their spot as the two made small talk while waiting for their frozen desserts.
The waitress, (who was a deer monster) came by with a large tray with only one large cup containing vanilla-chocolate swirl. Setting the cup down, the waitress pulled out a single straw with two ends on it and placed it right into the cup. With a smile and a knowing wink, she let the two humans be. Frisk was quick to pick up what Clover did while they were gone. “You really are quite bold today, Clover.”
Shrugging their shoulders, Clover reached for their end of the straw. “Well, I thought I should end the night with something memorable.”
Frisk leaned into their end. “You certainly have.” The two smiled as they both drank from their ends of the straw, enjoying each other's company while waiting for their parents to pick them up.
Notes:
That's it for this chapter. I already have a pretty good idea of what the next chapter is going to be and have started a bit on it. I was lucky enough to have a slow day at work and was able to finish this up. So again, thanks for reading and see you all in the next chapter.

Chapter Text
The four pre-teens burst out of the church, slamming the doors to the side with excited grins plastering their faces. The four quickly ran down the streets towards the Dreemur residence, much to the exasperation of their parents. Sitting through the hour and half long sermon by Father Alven had been tough on the kids, thankfully Chara had snuck a bunch of candy to their siblings and friend to snack on discreetly during the service. The unfortunate side effect ended up with four hyperactive pre-teens hopped up on sugar. Chara and Asriel were easily able to outpace the other two, not for lack of effort on the others' part, but because Frisk and Clover ran down the sidewalk while holding hands. The two had been stuck together like glue after the first date, be it at school or during their group hangouts.
As for what had the four excited to get home, other than to change out of the formal wear their parents made them have on during service, was the first annual ‘Human-Monster Easter Egg Hunt’ which was going to happen at the Dreemurr’s large estate. The promise of candy and sweets was more than alluring to the group. Rushing into the house way before any of the group's parents could arrive, they made a mad dash to their rooms to change. Clover and Kanako, having gotten persimmon from their moms to stay the night, had brought with them a change of clothes.
Going inside of the guest bedroom, Clover put on outdoor clothes. Spotting their favorite hat in the corner of the room, Clover threw it up with a practice flourish, having it land perfectly on their curly head. Relaxing a bit, Clover felt whole again. To them, not having their hat was like being naked. It was always a weird feeling whenever they had to take it off. Their mom had once commented on the matter as she playfully called their hat Clover’s ‘comfort item’. Speaking of the bird monster, Martlet was going to let them wear it inside until Toriel shot a disapproving look, making her suddenly change her mind about the matter, much to the child’s chagrin.
Existing the room, Asriel popped out of nowhere shouting “BOO!” Jumping back with a loud shout of their own, their expression quickly changed to a frown as Asriel couldn’t contain his snickers.
“Wrong holiday Azzy.” The human muttered out with a dust of red permutating their cheeks at being caught off guard.
Grinning, Asriel gave a small shrug. “Oh come on. That was funny.”
“Yeah, for you. Besides, I heard you from the other side of the door.”
“Is that why you screamed?”
“That was to just play along. An act if you would.” Clover said in a practiced regal voice that they copied from Chara.
Throwing his hand forward in a nonchalant manner, Asriel rolled his eyes. “I think you’ve been hanging out with Chara too often. You’re starting to sound like them,”
“What?! I do not.”
“You totally do! Acting like a big kid even when you're just a scaredy cat.” He said, playfully poking Clover’s nose with a clawed finger.
“Am not!”
“Are to!”
Creeping behind the hallway wall, Chara poked their head out. “Hey, if you two dorks are done yelling, Mom and Dad are back.” Not waiting for Asriel and Cam to follow, Chara headed downstairs already salivating at the idea of the candy about to be in their possession. A moment or two passed as the human’s and monster’s eyes met. Almost as if reading the other's mind, the pair ran downstairs. Pushing and pulling the other in a race to see who could reach the bottom level first. It was a common occurrence at this point of the pair competing against each other. At this point it would not be untrue to say the duo were like siblings.
Running down the expansive hallway the two were neck in neck, as they turned the corner where the stairs are, Clover was beginning to gain a small edge over Asriel as they were just a hair in front of the caprine. Halfway down the stairs Clover was about to make a daring move and jump the rest of the way, but before such a masterful plan to beat Asriel could be enacted a certain angel appeared out of thin air. Rocking their favorite long sleeve shirt and shorts, Frisk stood at the bottom of the stairs. Halting just for a moment was all the time Asriel needed to pass by them and reach the bottom. “Yes, I won!” He yelled in victory, raising his arms up high.
“Hey, that wasn’t fair. I was going to beat you.” Clover pointed out.
Sticking out his tongue he wiggled the appendage to his opponent. “And you got distracted.”
Grumbling a bit at their loss, Clover walked down the rest of the way but couldn’t hold the pout on their face as they got closer to their partner. Upon reaching the last step, Frisk patted the top of Clover’s hat. “There, there. I’m sure you’ll win next time.”
“Hey, aren't you supposed to root for your siblings?” Asriel questioned.
“Well, I guess I should but, I’m pretty sure I’m obligated to cheer for my partner.”
Letting out an audible gasp, Asriel clenched his shirt tightly. “I can’t believe it! My own sibling, betraying me like this.”
The three burst out into a fit of giggles at the caprine’s overdramatic attitude. After getting the last of their laughs out, the trio went through the massive kitchen and towards the backyard. Finishing up the last bit of preparations, Asgore turned his head around at hearing the sliding glass door open. Waving at Toriel whose back was turned saw the three and quickly put her massive paws on the children's faces, blocking their view. “No peeking! We don’t want to ruin the fun of the easter egg hunt now do we?”
Chara, who was already facing away from the backyard nodded in agreement. “It would be pretty boring if we already knew where everything was. Besides, the hunt of it all is way more exciting.” They comment with a glint in their eyes.
Obliging to Toriel’s wishes, the trio of kids waited until Asgore was finished. Ushering the children back inside the four waited near the kitchen table as guests slowly trinkled in. Humans and monsters alike, young and old, all together talking happily with one another. Parents making small talk or having full blown conversations as the children all waited with bated breath for the easter egg hunt to begin.
After talking with some of the neighborhood kids and catching up with a few of the other seven children who agreed to come so long as they did not have to interact with Asgore. It was getting betterish with the other souls and the Dreemurr family, but the wounds were still too fresh right now. But either way, Clover was happy that they came even if a few seemed still reluctant at being here. Finishing up talking with everyone who Clover knew, the young human went in search of their partner. Maneuvering through the crowds of people, Clover caught the bright blue and purple sweater in the corner of their eye. Standing next to Monster Kid, Frisk was holding their stomach while wiping away tears from their eyes at what Monster Kid had said. Wanting to be a gentleman, Clover grabbed two full drinks off of the counter next to the other assortment of foods and beverages. Walking next to their partner, they nudged them on the shoulder getting their attention.
“Hey, I got something for you.” They said as they offered Frisk the drink.
Giving Clover a soft smile, Frisk took the drink. Taking a small sip, Frisk quickly downed the rest like it was the best thing in the world, while Clover took a small swig of theirs. “You think you could get me another?” Frisk asks, a bit embarrassed at the display they just did. Not that it was something out of the ordinary for them to do but rather because it was in front of Clover. Then again the two of them had talked about their strange eating habits. What with Frisk eating a Glamburger on live TV and Clover eating literal gunpowder.
“Jeez, is this the first time you had soda?” Now that I think about it, I don’t think I’ve ever seen them drink soda before.
“No, it's just that Mom doesn’t let us have it too often. She says it will rot our teeth out.” They say with a disappointed grimace. “So, please be a dear and get me another one.” Adding emphasis to their words, Frisk crosses their arms together and flutters their eyes at their partner.
Having gotten more used to Frisk’s flirting Clover just smiled and went back over to the counter to get another cup for Frisk. Standing up on their toes to reach the counter due to it being monster size, Clover nudged a cup towards them. Taking hold of it, Clover pulled the plastic container towards them right as a feathery hand dropped on their shoulder. “Hey sweety! ”
Startled at the contact, all the hairs on Clover’s neck stood right up, causing them to almost drop their own drink. “Jeez mom, don’t scare me like that.” Rounding out their shoulder where the surprise touch had been, the goosebumps slowly began to creep away.
“Sorry about that.” She said with a sheepish smile. Nice going Martlet! You know Clover doesn’t like when people sneak up and touch them. Seeing their child already calming down, Martlet took the time to give her kid a once over. All seemed well until she spotted two cups in their possession. “Hey, don’t you think one drink is more than enough? If you want more you can always get more, you big hogger.” She playfully remarks.
“Wha- No, I’m not hogging anything, I’m just getting this one for Frisk.” Clover stammered out.
A grin grew on Martlet’s face. “Ooooo, is that so. Well, I don't want to keep you two love birds waiting.”
“Mom.” Clover groaned out much to the amusement of their mother.
“Sorry, sorry, I shouldn’t tease you too much” Bending down she brushed her feathery hand over the loose curls sticking out of their hat. “Any who, I’m guessing that you’re going to team up with Frisk for the easter egg hunt?”
It wasn’t like the thought hadn't crossed their mind. When Toriel first made the announcement about the egg hunt and how people could team up in pairs of two, Clover’s mind immediately went to Frisk. Doing something like this with Frisk would be an absolute blast. But on the other hand, now that they had someone like Martlet in their life, taking on a parental role, Clover wanted to do this with her instead. Nervously shuffling in place, the contents of the cups sloshed around near the brim. “I was actually hoping you and I could team up.”
If monsters had hearts, then Martlet’s would have stopped in its tracks. Their adorable, cute, little, amazing kid wanted to pair up with them . Sure, they were hoping Clover would want to do some mother-child bonding by way of this event, but she didn’t expect them to actually say they wanted to.
“Are you sure Clover? If you want to do the egg hunt with Frisk or someone else, you won’t hurt your mama’s feelings.”
Shaking their head, Clover grew in their resolve. “I want to do the easter egg hunt with you .”
Had their child not been holding two full drinks, she would have scooped up the chronic cowboy hat wearer immediately. Reining in her desire to squeeze her kid, she settled for a simple ruffle to the top of their hat. “If you're sure, then I’ll be more than happy to team up with you again.”
Smiling, Clover nodded before heading off to where Frisk was. Sliding next to their partner, Clover stretched their hand in offering of the fizzy beverage. “Geesh, you took forever. Get lost or something?” Frisk commented playfully.
Scratching the back of their head, Clover gave Frisk an apologetic look. “Sorry, got a bit side tracked.”
Taking a sip of their drink, Frisk made a small waving motion with their empty hand. “Relax cowpoke, I’m just messing with you.”
Chuckling nervously, Clover found the floor to be suddenly interesting. ‘Right, anyway um, about the whole teaming up part of the hunt, I was actually gonna..go with…my mom.” Peeking up at Frisk’s face, Clover tried to gauge their reaction to the news. Are they gonna be upset? Are they thinking I don’t care about them? Instead, what Clover got was a sigh of relief from Frisk.
“Okay, cool, that totally works out.”
”What do you mean?” They asked with confusion.
“Well, you see, I actually promised Kanako to be her partner for the hunt.”
The sheer look of betrayal on Clover’s face was immense. “Wait, you're teaming up with my cousin? That’s totally unfair. You and her are like the best seekers in hide and seek. The two of you teaming up is unfair.” Clover huffs out.
Placing a hand on their hip, not at all fazed by their partner’s tirade. “And you and Ms. Martlet are going to have a tough time? Last I checked she can fly.” Putting a finger on Clover’s chest, they continued. “She can find any eggs if they're in the trees, plus see any on the ground. You call that fair?”
“Fine then. How about we make this more interesting?” Clover challenges.
“And who would we do that?” Frisk questions.
“Simple, since we both have special advantages, why not make a game out of it.”
“I’m listening.”
“To be fair to everyone else we can only collect twenty eggs total. But…” Striking an ‘intimidating’ pose Clover points their hand at Frisk. “Whoever gets to twenty first gets to make the loser do something for them!”
Not one to back down from a challenge, Frisk did an equally ‘menacing pose.’ “I accept these terms!” Unbeknownst to the two, the adults that were still in the kitchen doing their best not to laugh at the cute display. While the other children were more than used to seeing the pair act like this.
After finding their prospective partners, everyone who was still in the mansion left through the back door. Going down the back patio was a streak of grass painted white. With the teams of two pairing next to one another in front of the line all of whom held their prospective baskets. Coming up from the side, Toriel was quick to get everyone's attention. “I would first like to say thank you to everyone for coming out here on such a nice day. With it being the first Easter that monsters are able to participate in since coming to the surface, I wanted to do something special to commemorate the occasion. Due to the tremendous help from both monsters and humans we were able to set up the first annual ‘Human-Monster Easter Egg Hunt’.”
As Toriel continued to go on about the rules of the hunt and to play ‘fair’, Clover couldn’t help but bring their attention over to their partner. Frisk catching Clover’s eyes shot them a smirk. As if reading Frisk’s mind, Clover knew they were saying. You’re going down buddy boi. As for Clover, they sent a clear message by flicking the top of their brim signaling that ‘ It’s high noon’.
“On your marks, get ready, set…GO!” Toriel shouted as she blew a whistle. Surprised by the sudden noise, Clover was yanked by their mom as she took off. Soaring high through the sky Clover instinctually climbed onto her back. Heart thumping out of their chest, Clover did their best to catch their breath. Not that they were unused to flying as Martlet had taken them through the sky many times before. But simply because they did not expect it to happen so suddenly. “Mom, you could have warned me!” Clover complained, still trying to catch their bearings as their hands wrapped tightly around the bird monster’s shoulders.
“Sorry!” She yelled. “I guess I got a little too excited. I read up all about human traditions back in the Underground and being able to participate in one is just so exciting!” Turning slightly to the left, she veered down to allow for Clover to have a better sight on the eggs.
Understanding the assignment, Clover kept their eyes peeled. “Over there!” They shouted, pointing down to a large group of trees. Marlet glanced down and spotted the brightly colored, plastic eggs. Swooping down as close as she could, Clover stuck out their basket and effortlessly snatched up five eggs.
Meanwhile, Frisk and Kanako were at war with Monster Kid and Asriel. The two of them ran neck and neck as they jumped and pushed each other trying to get the eggs near the backyard swing set. “This one is mine, Azzy!” Frisk yelled as they cartwheeled over to a pair of eggs, snatching them up before Asriel could grab them.
“No fair Frisk! You can’t just use your gymnastics against me!” Bleated the prince.
“Sorry, but this is really important for me. I promise to pay you back!” Frisk yelled as they scurried off with Kanako who had spotted a whole group of eggs next to the shed. Running along with their friend, Frisk saw a rather large shadow pass over them. Looking up, Frisk saw Ms. Martlet and their partner heading in the same direction.
From above, Clover saw their cousin and Frisk heading towards the shed. Basket swinging around Kanako’s mouth as she ran on all fours, Clover took a quick count at how many eggs were in her basket. Shoot! Fifteen! How the heck do they already have fifteen eggs? Still in possession of only five, Clover hoped that their mom was fast enough to get to the shed in time. Their hopes were quickly dashed however, as Martlet began to fly up and away. “Mom, what are you ding? There eggs at the shed.”
“Yes, but Kanako and Frisk are already heading there. It wouldn’t be fair to take from them.” Just like that the game was over. It only lasted a bit but Frisk had already won. Pouting at the loss, Clover did not let the loss keep down for too long. After all, they got to keep doing the hunt until Toriel called time. For the rest of the hour, Clover spent their time with Martlet as they soared just for a bit longer until decking to do the rest of the hunt on the ground.
With all the eggs collected by the children and any parents who had helped them, the crowd of people convened on the spacious back porch or in the main den of the mansion. More food and drinks were brought out as Clover dragged their feet towards their partner. Preparing themself of the gloating from Frisk, Clover stilted themself. “Guess you won huh?”
Nodding, Frisk set their basket down. “Yup. Beat you at your own game. So, that means I can make you do whatever I want!”
“Yeah, yeah. So, what do you want me to do?”
Smirking, Frisk took Clover by the hand as they brought them towards the main dining room. Alone with Frisk, Clover began sweating. Their a flirt master and a teasing master. This is not good. “Alright Clover, close your eyes.”
Reluctant at doing it, Clover nonetheless accepted their fate as being the loser and having to deal with the consequences. Shutting their eyes, they heard Frisk shuffle about, before getting closer to their ear. Cupping their hands around the lobe, Frisk whispered “I love you.”
Shooting their eyes open, Clover found themself in a similar state as how they had been found many times before. Red face and blushing all over. All thanks to their partner.
Around the corner of the dining room
“Took them long enough.” Chara commented as they took a bite of their new stash of chocolate.
“Oh come on Chara. I think it's sweet.”
“You're just as mushy as them Azzy.”
“You were just as vested in this as I am.”
“Shut it.”
Stifling his giggles as to not alert the other two, Asriel was happy that their little sibling found someone for them.

Chapter Text
“Are you sure about this Chara?” A confused Clover asked as they looked at themself through the dressing room mirror. Turning their body from right to left and then left, (in order to right to get the full effect of the attire) the cloth swung smoothly. Taking a glance down at their current attire, which was a long brown skirt that reached all the way down to their ankles with the price tag poking right into their side.
Chara nodded their head in approval. “Trust me Clover. This definitely suits you. Now put on the hat!” Pointing their finger at Clover as though they were a director, with Clover being the reluctant actor. Doing as Chara said, Clover put on the cowboy hat and took in the full outfit.
“I just don’t know about this Chara. I prefer jeans or shorts. Skirts aren’t really my thing.” Scratching the back of their head, causing their hat to protrude up lightly with the brim covering their eyes.
Shaking their head at their friends' reluctance to all of this, Chara pushed up the hat as red eyes met brown. “Nonsense. You look fine, heck you actually look stylish. Seriously, you, Azzy, and Frisk are all the same. You three dweebs have no sense of fashion. You guys never switch anything up except maybe wear a hoodie. It hurts my eyes to see such bland fashion choices. It is a true stain upon my eyes!” Chara stated directly with the back of their hand covering their face. Clover sweat dropped a little thinking that just maybe their friend had been hanging out with Mettaton a little too much. Don’t get them wrong, they love the zealous robot as much as the next cowpoke but sometimes he could be a little bit too much.
Taking another look at the mirror, Clover tilted their head a bit and moved into a few different positions to at least try and see what Chara was seeing. It took around a minute with Chara just watching them from behind like a hawk for the younger of the two to finally see it. And truth be told, they had to admit that although it was not their preferred style of choice, they looked pretty darn tootin cute in this thing.
Seeing a smile form on the Clover’s face, Chara poked their cheek with a chuckle. “ See , I knew you would like it.” Giving a glare with no real bite to it, Clover relented as their friend was correct. They really did like the skirt.
“So, you want me to buy it for you?”
“Huh? No thanks. I can pay for it.”
“Yeah, that may have sounded like a question, but it really wasn’t one.” They sarcastically remark. “I’m gonna buy you at least three pairs of these.” Chara stated firmly.
Waving their hands back and forth, Clover spluttered out, “Really Chara, you don’t have to. My mom gives me an allowance every week. And I have been saving up, so it's really no big deal.”
Unimpressed by their friend turning down their generosity, Chara got much closer to the Clover. Lifting up the tag still dangling off of their hip, Chara read the price.
Looking down at the tag then back up to Clover, Chara wore a blank face. “Clover, the skirt is forty dollars.” They state bluntly.
The cowboy’s eyebrows shoot right up in surprise. “Forty dollars! For a freakin skirt. That’s so dumb.”
Placing a hand on their heart, Chara began their monologue. “Lucky for you, your most gracious friend just so happens to be royalty. And as a member of the royal family and with you being a citizen of the Monster Kingdom, I will do my duty as Royal Prinx to ensure that you do not leave this store without at least three skirts. Besides I still have like a gazillion gold coins from back in the Underground. Money is not a problem.”
“Didn’t the Monster Kingdom join the Human one?” Clover questioned with a raised eyebrow along with a long face at having to deal with another one of Chara’s theatrics.
A finger placed delicately on Clover’s lips as Chara shushed them. “No need to worry your simple-minded head on the complexities of royalty. Just stand there and accept your fate.”
“Hey, are you guys almost done in there.” Complained Asriel as he sat outside of the dressing area, bored out of his mind.
“Yeah, but there are still a few other things we need to try on before we leave.” Chara called out from inside the curtain. An audible sigh could be heard as Asriel slumped further into his chair wondering how he got draggled into this shopping trip with them.
A few minutes passed before the two humans exited the booth. Asriel was quick to stand up before noticing the glint in Chara’s eyes. Seeing that look caused the poor prince to sit right back down. Dragging Clover by the hand, Chara pulled the other along into another part of the store.
“Dresses! Seriously?” Clover bemoaned.
“Absolutely! We need to get you a couple of cute summer dresses along with an actual dress. The end of the school year dance is next week. And if you think for even a single moment I am going to let you dance with Frisk in a pair of muddy shoes and a sweaty bandana then you have another thing coming.” Chara said as their tone took on a more serious approach when discussing the upcoming dance.
Pulling their hand out of Chara’s grasp, Clover crossed their arms. “What? Chara it’s a parent-child dance for the end of the year. Not a date with Frisk.”
Eyes growing dark, Chara looked down their nose at the shorter human. “Are you saying you are not going to dance with my little sibling huh? When that’s all they could keep talking about for the past week. Your’e seriously going to just not dance with them. Huh? Is that it?” Chara accused as their voice grew darker with each word.
Waving their hands in a dramatic show of surrender, Clover sputtered out, “W-what no! That's not it at all. It’s just a parent-child dance! I seriously didn’t know Frisk wanted to dance with me at it!” By now a few of the shoppers turned to look to see what all the commotion was. Cheeks flushed at causing a scene, Clover leaned in and whispered harshly. “Seriously, how could I have known that Frisk wanted to dance? They never told me anything. I’m not a mind reader.”
Chara’s face morphed from harsh indication to holding back laughter. Soon a giggle was heard until they were full blown laughing, clutching their stomach. “I seriously cannot believe you believed that! You're too easy.”
Realizing that they had been punked, Clover shoved the other’s shoulder roughly. “Seriously Chara! You’re so mean.”
“Yeah, I know. Besides, it was just a joke. Well at least me being angry and everything. But Frisk really does want to dance with you next week. But you see the thing is they are too shy to ask you.”
“Huh? Frisk is like the flirt master. There is no way they would be embarrassed to ask to dance.”
Placing a finger on their chin, Chara gave a humming noise of pondering. “That is true for the most part. But the thing about my little sibs is that they get all flustered when it comes to you. Heck, when you two went on that date to the movies, they were a bumbling mess the entire day. Got really nervous just thinking about it, so it's really no surprise that something like this would be difficult for them.”
Clover’s brain was now in outer space. The universe itself was turned upside down at what Chara said. It was just an impossibility to have Frisk be embarrassed to do something like this. Sure, in the past they had gotten flustered or a bit of pink dusted their cute cheeks but this? It made no sense. “W-what. But like…how, no wait why?”
Sighing, Chara turned their attention to a few soft pink summer dresses. “You really are an idiot. When Frisk flirts with others it's always platonically, at least that's how they put it. But with you it's different. You're something really special to them.”
Looking down, Clover rubbed their arm. Special huh. Frisk thinks I'm special. A gentle smile grew on their face at the thought. “Come on, you can get sappy later. For now we have clothes for you to try on.” Getting Clover’s attention they brought their focus back on their friend who had at least ten dresses in each hand.
About an hour later, Clover settled on the three skirts and five summer dresses in varying colors. Along with a cute white dress with a flower pattern on the bottom of the dress. Collecting an asleep Asriel who rubbed his eyes at having fallen asleep waiting on the two, the trio made their way to the front of the store. Standing in line the three waited for their turn to be rung up.
“Heya kidos. How’s you all been doing?” Sans asked as he began to scan Clover’s newly parched clothes.
“Huh? Sans, what are you doing here? I thought you worked at the contingent store.” Asriel asked.
Sans only shrugged as he finished scanning the last of the items. “What can I say? More jobs means I get more breaks. Besides, even a skeleton has to eat.”
Asriel groaned at the attempt of humor from the skeleton monster, while Chara let out a chuckle. “Alright, your total comes out to 271. How you paying?”
Chara pulled out a card and swiped it. The cash register rang out with the receipt printed out. “Here you go. See you guys at the dance.”
“How do you know about the dance?” Clover asked.
“I’m a volunteer with the school board office so I kinda have to be a chaperone at the dance. Plus, Paps is going to be singing on stage. He’s been working on his vocal skills with Mettaton recently. Haha, my bro is going to be a popstar in no time. Or at least a school dance singer. Whichever comes first.”
“But that doesn’t answer my question.” Clover pointed out.
“Oh, yeah I guess it doesn’t.”
“So?”
“So?”
“I uh-nevermind.” At that the trio left the store.
Soooooo, that was kinda weird. Chara said thinking out loud only for their eyes to glow with brimming excitement. “But now that the shopping is done, we can go back to our place so you can try on the rest of the dresses!”
“Well, I guess it wouldn’t hurt.”
“Can you guys not do it in our room? I wanna play on the computer.” Asriel complained, wanting to finally relax after having to spend all morning being dragged around from shop to shop by Chara.
“I guess so. I’m pretty sure Frisk is hanging out with MK and Kanako today, so we can use their room instead.” After arriving at the Dreemurr household Clover and Chara went straight to Frisk’s room to begin the fashion show.
Chara politely turned around for Clover to get changed and to start the fashion show. Having put on the first dress, which was sky blue, Clover gave a small twirl as their friend clapped their hands excitedly. “Yes, that one really looks amazing! Oohh how about you try on this one now!”
Handing Clover a white dress that was sleeveless, Chara turned around for Clover to change once again. After a few minutes, Clover gave the go ahead for Chara to turn around.
“Wait, I actually forgot something!” Not bothering to see how Clover looked in the dress or even wait for a response, Chara went straight out of the room. Heading down the stairs, they caught sight of Frisk as they came inside from the backyard. Smirking to themself at how they tricked Clover and by extension Asriel. Sure, they were not telling a total lie. But they just happened to omit that part for Frisk hanging out with MK and Kanko at their house.
Rushing down the stairs, Chara got the attention of their younger sibling. “Hey Frisk, there’s something super important I need to show you!”
A bit skeptical at what this thing was that their big sibling wanted to show them. Along with having to get back to their friends who were waiting for their return to keep playing. But with a pull of their arm, Frisk was frisked away upstairs. “Chara, why is what you want to show me going to be in my room?” The purple striped wearer asked with great skepticism.
“Shhh, you're going to ruin the surprise. Now, be extra quiet.” Opening the door slowly, the two quietly walked inside. Once stepping through the threshold of the doorway, Frisk had to cover their mouth to stop themself from gasping. Clover was staring at themself in Frisk’s closet mirror with a great big smile on their face. Frisk’s eyes sparkled at seeing how adorable their partner looked.
Feeling eyes on the back of their neck, Clover spun around fully expecting to see Chara. Only to see not only them but Frisk as well. Blushing at being seen, even more so at the awkwardness of them being in their room in a dress, Clover tried to come up with an excuse. “Frisk, what a surprise. I umm-totally didn't expect you to be here…in your room…at your house…yeah.”
Unable to hold themself back, Frisk squealed at how adorable they were. Bounding over to Clover, Frisk hugged Clover tightly causing them to squeak at the lack of oxygen while Frisk spun them around. “You look amazing! Not that you never not look amazing, but you just look so frappin cute!”
“Frisk…to…tight.” Clover whispers out harshly as the lack of air started to make their face go purple. Setting down their partner, Frisk had the tack to give a halfhearted apologetic look.
“Sorry, sorry, it's just that you look so cute.”
“You’ve already said that.” Chara points out. Frisk reacted by sticking their tongue out and making a face at them.
“Thanks Frisk. Chara, Asriel, and I went shopping earlier. Chara bought me these.” Going over to the bag of clothes on the floor, Clover showed Frisk their new wears. Frisk kept gushing over the items as Chara felt like now would be a good time to slip on out of the room.
Clover really is going to owe me one. It really is not easy being a wingman. Chara thought to themself as they went across the hall and into their shared room to bother Asriel for a bit.
Back in Frisk’s room, said owner of the room plopped right onto their bed before clasping their hands together. “Alright, now that I have you trapped here, I have no choice but to make you put on a fashion show.”
“Really Frisk, I just had to do one for Chara.” Clover complained.
Gasping in fake indignation, Frisk grabbed onto an invisible set of pearls around their neck. “How could my partner possibly do a fashion show without me!”
“Frisk.” Clover whined.
“Alright, maybe another time. But do you like them? I mean you don’t normally wear those types of clothes.”
Rubbing their shoulder, Clover gave another look at the mirror before their eyes went back to Frisk. “It’s not my usual style but I don’t hate it. But I think the dresses are a bit overkill. I do have to admit though, that the skirts are pretty cool. Like, I can easily kick some serious butt in that and look amazing!”
“Well as long as you're happy with it.” Frisk said with a gentle smile.
Alright, here’s your chance Clover. Time to show Frisk what a cool and awesome partner you can be! Hyping themself up, Clover walked over to Frisk’s vinyl player. Putting on a vinyl and placing the needle on the record, a soft gentle jazz song began to play. “You know Frisk, the parent-child dance is coming up. But I’m not that good at dancing, think you can show me a few tips and tricks?”
Heart stopping, Frisk swallowed hard before nodding without saying a word. Getting off the bed and making their way towards Clover who outstretched their hand, palm side up. Taking Clover’s hand Frisk went in, putting their hand on the other’s back. The two began to sway around, not doing much in the way of intricate dance moves like the ones Frisk did back when they fought Mettaton. As the minutes ticked away the pair just kept going, circling around the room with a few twirls and bows thrown in here and there. As the song came to a close the duo separated. “So, do you wanna dance at the school dance? After we dance with our parents of course.” Clover asks.
“Yeah, I would really like that cowpoke.”
“You're such a dork.”
“Yet you are dating a so-called dork. So, what does that make you?”
“An idiot.”
***********************************************************************************
“What do you think is taking Frisk so long?” MK asked.
“Knowing them, they probably figured out Clover is here.” Kanako replied.
“Huh, Clover is here? How did you know?”
Tapping their snout, Kanoko gave a smug grin. “This thing is as good as a blood hound. I can easily sniff out my cousin. But since we won’t see Frisk for at least an hour you want to keep playing?”
Nodding excitedly at getting back to the game the two monsters kept up the game of pretend as the pair slipped back into their prospective roles for the game as they waited for their friend to come back out.

Chapter Text
Brushing their unruly hair as much as they could, Clover hacked away at the tangled knots on their head. I swear I just had a haircut a few weeks ago. Clover thought to themself as they continued away with the great battle of untangling hair. After thirty or so minutes, Clover accepted their defeat and opted to just try and tidy the mess on their head as best they could. For tonight was a very important night. The Summer dance was here and Clover was bound to make it an amazing night.
Hair status, could be worse. Breath… minty. Face, still cute as always. Clothes, ironed and good to go. Hopping off the small standing box in their bathroom, Clover headed downstairs, plopping down on the couch waiting for Martlet to finish getting ready. Tapping their foot down rapidly on the hard-wood floor, Clover’s chest was thumping with anticipation. Of course they were really happy to dance with their awesome Momster, but more importantly, to dance with Frisk. To them, it was like one of Alphy’s romance anime. Where the two characters shared a dance at a masquerade. Only this time it would just be a parent-child dance. Still kinda close in their personal opinion.
“Sweety are you ready?” Martlet asked as she came into the room wearing a long yellow dress.
Jumping off the couch, the young human shot finger guns at the monster. “Yep, totally ready!”
Eyes squinting, Martlet bent down to Clover’s level. Feathered hands straighten out the human’s skirt before moving up to straighten their suit jacket and bowtie. “There!” Moving away to get a better look, Martlet brought up her hand towards her chin as she looked over Clover’s attire. “You look really handsome. Ohhh, wait hold right there, it will just take a second.” Rushing out the room, the sounds of items being thrown and moved were heard until the bird monster came back into the living room, camera in hand and a proud smile glossing her face.
“ Mom, we’re going to be late.” Clover complained.
“Oh don’t worry. We’ll get going in a minute. Just smile, okay?”
Knowing there would be no way to talk their mom out of this, especially when she got this excited, the human relented and gave the brightest smile they could muster. Clasping their hands around their back, Clover waited for their picture to be taken. When the clicking of the camera went off, Martlet yanked the photo out of the polaroid camera. Eyes shinning with joy, the monster made a squeal of delight. “This one is definitely going into the photo album.”
“You say that with every picture mom.” The human pointed out. It used to be a daily occurrence back when Clover first started to live with Martlet on the surface. Saying how she ‘Didn’t want to miss out on a single important moment of Clover growing up.’
“Only the ones with my adorable cute little child.” She replied back as she squeezed the human’s cheeks.
“Keh we go nah plese?” Clover asked through squished cheeks.
“Sorry sorry.” Martlet replied, scratching the back of her head as Clover rubbed their reddening cheeks. Looking at the clock by the fireplace, her eyes shot wide as she realized how late it had gotten. “It’s already six O’clock?! How? It was just five a few minutes ago.” Taking her child by the arm, Martlet pulled them along outside. Putting Clover on her back she waited for those tiny arms to wrap around her neck. When she felt that her kid was secured, she took off into the sky.
Soaring through the setting sky, Clover took in the view of HomeTown. It really had come a long way in such a short time. The city skylights were always a sight to behold, especially when flying at this time of day. But more importantly was the countryside only a few short miles away. Not that Clover hated the city or anything but there was just something that called out to them about the countryside. The open fields, the farmland, the vast potential of cowboy roleplay! Maybe Uncle Starlo and the rest of the crew would take me out there sometime? Asriel would also come and maybe Chara? Ohhh Frisk would definitely say yes. We would be the dynamic duo, bringing justice to the land of the outlaws.
“Clover?”
Snapping out of their daydream, the human turned their head to the side. “Yeah Mom?”
“We’re here. Well actually we’ve been here for the past minute. Geez, you were off in your own little world huh?” Looking around, Clover realized that they were indeed here at the school. Stepping off of the Martlet plane, Clover took their Mom’s hand and head inside.
The cafeteria was their destination. The usual array of tables and chairs were switched out for an open area with the center being used as a makeshift dance floor. Scratch marks along the floor are very visible, no thanks to Undyne who as the gym teacher was given the task to do the heavy lifting. And with the amount of stuff that needed to be moved and with so little time opted to not carefully lift the tables and chairs and put them where they needed to go. But went ahead and kicked everything in place. Lucky for her, Toriel had been way too busy with the other arrangements to give the fish monster much grief for the scratched floors. The rest of the room was set up with the center of the floor being covered with a large red plastic sheet and the tables and seats being covered in similar red cloth.
Sticking close to Martlet, the pair began their search for their assigned seats. Trying to spot which ever table had their name tags was a bit tricky due to the large venue area so the two split up to cover more ground. After a few minutes of searching, Clover stumbled upon their name tag. Clover, Martlet, Mk and his mom, and two names they did not recognize. “Shoot.” Clover mumbled to themself as they continued to look around.
Continuing on with their side quest, Clover moved about the crowds of people until spotting their mom getting distracted by talking to Mr. Gearson. Relieved that fate decided to give them a bit more time, the cowboy hurried up the search. Circling the perimeter and narrowing down the remaining tables, the human finally spotted what they were looking for. The Dreemurr family name tags. Guessing that the rest of the family was not here since they had yet to be glomped on by Frisk, Clover headed back to their table. Taking their and Martlet’s name tags along with lifting up two fold out chairs, Clover hurried over to the Dreemurr table and quickly put the things in order. A devilish smile formed on their face, proud at not getting caught and having a seat right next to Frisk’s.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk. To think that my awesome partner would stoop so low as to move their assigned seat.” A voice said from being Clover.
Spinning around, Clover let out a small gasp at seeing their partner. “Oh, hey Frisk. Didn’t know you were here, ha ha.” They said with an awkward laugh.
Nodding, Frisk slowly began to circle around Clover. “And it looks like I just found a no-good rule breaker. My mom worked really hard setting up the tables you know. It’s pretty rude to try and switch seats after she did all that work.”
Sweating at being caught red handed. That was of course until spotting a handful of name tags in Frisk’s right hand. “Hey, what’s that?” Clover asked, pointing to Frisk’s hand.
Shuffling their hand behind their sleeveless purple and pink striped dress, Frisk averted their gaze. “What’s what?”
“That! Behind your back.” Then it finally clicked. A smirk worked its way onto Clover’s face as it was now their turn for a little pay back. “Did the Ambassador of Human’s and Monster’s just try to do the exact same thing that I was doing?”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about. I am just a poor innocent human who is following the rules.” Frisk defended.
“Following the rules my butt. You were totally about to put your family’s name tags on my table.” A few seconds pass before the pair couldn’t contain it anymore. Giggling at the situation the duo smiled at each other.
“What can I say? Great minds think alike.”
“Indeed, they do your majesty.” Clover replied, only to be met with a playful shove from Frisk.
“You know I don’t like being called that.”
“But you're in a royal family so that makes you royalty.”
Huffing, Frisk’s cheeks inflated with a pout. “You know my parents gave up the royal titles.”
“And a Royal Prinx is still a Prinx.” Clover shot back with a smile.
“You're a butt.”
“No, you’re a butt.”
Before the playful argument could delve any further, Frisk caught a glimpse of the rest of their family coming in through the front doors. “Crap, here!” Grabbing one of the chairs Clover was carrying, Frisk placed it right next to their own and signaled for Clover to put the other chair right next to it. Putting back the name cards in their proper place, the two took their seats.
“Howdy Clover!” Asriel called out.
“Hey ya.” A tired Chara said as they rubbed the bags under their eyes.
“Hey guys. Umm Chara, why do you look so tired?”
Instead of replying, Toriel put a hand on Chara’s shoulder. “Well, that is because someone decided that it would be a great idea to stay up all night playing video games.”
“Mom, you don’t understand. I was so close to unlocking a new character in Super Smash People.” Chara retorted.
“You were up at four in the morning.” Toriel replied with a flat tone.
Leaning over to Frisk, Clover whispered, “How did she know Chara was up?”
Leaning over, Frisk replied, “Mom instincts.” Nothing more needed to be said on the matter as the Dreemurr family took their seats with Martlet spotting the group and moving over to sit next to Clover.
As the DJ had yet to finish setting up, everyone made polite conversation with the adults going on about one thing or another while the group of young humans and one monster made their own.
“Say, Clover buddy, don’t you think it's a pretty weird coincidence that your name tag just so happens to be right next to my dear little sibling?” Chara asked with a cat-like smirk.
Knowing they were facing not a cat but a lion ready to pounce at any moment, Clover knew they had to do their best to avoid any of Chara’s pitfall traps. “Well Ms. Dreemurr was the one who set up the event right? So, knowing me and Frisk are dating then it makes sense that she put up me and Mom at this table with you guys.”
Chara gave a glance to Asriel who gave a similar look to theirs. “It does seem very suspicious Clover.” Asriel began. “Mom actually didn’t do any of the actual set up. Sure she planned the whole thing but, it was a couple of the other teachers who did the actual name placements.”
Great, now I have both of the older Dreemur siblings on my tail. And of course, Asriel has to join in on Chara’s ‘fun.’.
“Knock it off you two.” Frisk whispered yelled from across the table as their hand landed on Clover’s.
The two other siblings raised up their hands in mock surrender as to not incur the full wrath of Frisk. “Sorry, we just had to have a bit of fun, you know. Nothing wrong with a bit of teasing here and there now is there?”
“Yeah, sorry guys. It’s just that well, we both totally saw you try to switch seats.” Asriel admitted.
Crossing their arms, Chara nodded. “Yup. You two share the same brain cell so it makes sense you two would come up with the exact same plan.” Moving out part of their chestnut hair from their face with a flourish, Chara went on in a regal tone. “In fact I think the both of you should be bowing down and thanking us for helping you two out. We distracted Mom and Dad long enough for your dumb butts to get the name tags on the table.”
Leaning over, Clover asked Frisk, “Don’t you think Chara might be going a bit overboard?”
Shaking their head, Frisk gave a blank face response. “If Chara doesn’t get a full ten hours of sleep, they get a bit…excited.”
Nodding and just letting the eldest sibling of the Dreemurr trio be the two went back to chatting away. A bit later the one of the teacher’s announced that food was ready. Everyone was quick to get in line to get their meals with Clover insisting on being the one to get both their and Frisk’s plates. Balancing two full plates and two large drinks filled to the brim with surgery soda was quite the task for the young human. But nevertheless, Clover was bound and determined to impress Frisk.
Wobbling back to the table, Martlet held back a snicker at seeing her child try to impress Frisk with such a feat of dexterity and balance. It was a bit hard for her as she wanted nothing more than to swoop over and help her kid, but not wanting to ruin their cool moment.
“Your food.” Clover said with a playful bow, as they set the plates and cups on the table.
Placing a hand on their chest, Frisk gave a light gasp. “My word. Such amazing service. I should really come here more often.” Smiling, Clover took their seat by Frisk’s side as everyone at the table dug into their respective meals.
Once the majority of the guests finished their meals with more than a few going in for seconds, the DJ announced that the parent child dance was about to begin. Before they even had time to get up, Clover was hoisted from their seat by a pair of blue feathery arms and was spun around to the dance floor. Putting those dangling legs on solid ground, Martlet took both of their hands and began to dance to the music as other human and monster parents did the exact same.
Glancing toward the Dreemurr family, Clover caught sight of the family in one big circle holding hands, swaying and spinning about. Turning their attention back to their mom, Clover smiled brightly as they began to enjoy the dance. Twirling, spinning, crisscrossing even, the two danced away. As time ticked away and the music got more calmer, Marlet noticed Clover’s eyes kept drifting to what was behind her. Not wanting to be obvious, Martlet spun their bodies around and saw exactly what Clover was looking at. Immediately, a plan formed in her head as she slowly moved them closer to that area.
Seeing Marlet and Clover get closer, Toriel was quick to pick up on Marelt’s plan. Letting Asgore take the reins in the large family circle dance, the boss monster took Frisk away from the circle and danced with them closer to the other parent-child duo. It was not long before the four were just a few feet away with each of the human’s backs turned towards the other. Each monster signaling to the other took their respective child’s hands and spun them around so that now Clover and Frisk were right in front of each other.
Each human turned their head back only to see their respective parents give a smile and a wink of encouragement. Hearts racing and thumping in their chests, the pair stared at one another. This is it Clover. Make or break. Breathing in a lung full of air, Clover did a small curtsy bow with hand outstretched, palm side up. “May I have this dance?” Happy that their face was bowed down to the floor as the blush on their face would be way too embarrassing if anyone were to see.
Frisk, too, was in a similar state as their face was bright red. Coughing out the anxiety, Frisk gently put their hand on Clover’s. “Y-you may.” They said with a stutter. Looking up Clover caught on to their unease as they interlock their fingers before putting their other hand on their partner’s arm. The pair began to dance in earnest around the dance floor. With Frisk almost immediately taking the lead as to their lack of surprise, Clover was quite two footed when it came to dance.
For the remainder of the event, the two danced away, uncaring of the rest of the world around them.
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to her child, Martlet had brought out her phone, capturing as many pictures as she could of the two dancing.

Chapter Text
“So, what was it like?” Clover asked with their feet kicking absentmindedly off the bed. All the while the book they had been reading up till now laid on the floor, ignored.
“It was strange at first. I mean one moment it's just you and your thoughts then… BAM! New ghost friend in your noggin.” Taking another bite of their snack, Frisk wiped the rest of the cheeto dust on their pajama bottoms. “But after a bit it sort of became natural. Like I was with Chara, and they were always with me. Pretty much lived in my head for a good while. If we’re counting resets.”
“And you still live with them.” Clover jokingly stated.
Reaching over, Frisk bopped the top of the other’s head, just enough for their curly hair to dip down. Giggling, Frisk made a move to ruffle Clover’s head. “Yeah. We’ve been inseparable ever since I fell.”
Playfully smacking the hand away, Clover took a bite into the large bowl of candy in front of them. Popping a mix of chocolate, marshmallows, hard candy, and whatever the two decided would be a good idea to throw in the bowl, in their mouth. “Hey, I never did ask but how did you two separate then?” They asked with a mouthful of the strange assortment of confectionery.
“Oh! Well since my soul’s Determination I’m pretty dang strong.” To showcase this, Frisk pulled back one of their sleeves, revealing slim arms they were failing to flex. “Meaning splitting my soul in half was more than enough to keep both me and Chara alive.”
Sitting straight up from the bed caused the wide array of snacks on the bed to immediately spill over. “You what?! What do you mean that you only have half your soul?!” Clover shouted in horror.
“It’s fine. Alphys did the procedure, so it was completely safe.” Frisk stated, rather unphased by the whole ordeal.
Shaking their head in disbelief, Clover went on. “That’s not the point Frisk! You only have half your soul. You could get really sick or somehow get badly hurt and…” Clover did not dare to trail off. The very idea of something, anything happening to Frisk made them feel ill.
Noticing their partner did not feel reassured in the slightest, Frisk took hold of the other’s shoulder. “Hey Clover, look at me.”
Bringing their gaze they met their partners eyes. Gold and shimmering, Clover could feel the weight from Frisk’s hand as it gripped firmer on their shoulder. “I’m not going anywhere alright? I’m fine.”
“But Fris-”
“Nuh uh mister.” Frisk said, cutting them off. “I told you nothing bad is going to happen to me. Having half my soul just means I can’t take on someone like the Absolute God of HyperDeath . Or spear, bullet, magic lasers, you know.” Frisk said with a small wave of their hand gesturing to the many dangers that they faced in the Underground.
Frisk’s face then morphed from one of light mischief to seriousness. Brow furrowing, their smile dropped to a frown. “But just because I can’t fight like I used to doesn’t mean I’m going to break like glass okay.”
A beat passed before Clover couldn’t hold back their laughter. “You look like such a dork when you get so freaking serious!”
Puffing their cheeks out in indignation, Frisk put both of their hands on Clover’s cheeks, squishing them together. “I can still kick your butt cowboy.”
“Surr oohhh con.” Said cowboy attempted to say but with how hard Frisk was pressing on their face, the words came out in a splatter of noise.
Huffing out in childish annoyance, Frisk pressed even harder. “You can’t even swat my hands away. So much for the toughest cowboy in the west.”
“Frisk?”
“Yeah?”
With Frisk distracted and their hands away from their weak spots, Clover took this as their time to strike. With their free hands, Clover aimed right at Frisk’s stomach, letting their fingers go in attack mode. Immediately letting go, Frisk began laughing uncontrollably. Fighting off Clover's tickle attack proved fruitless as Clover was now hovering over them and would not let up.
“Stop! Stop it! I haha, I can’t hahaha, okay okay you win!” Deciding to show mercy, Clover let off of the attack, all the while a smirk plastering on their face.
“So much for the ambassador of Monsters huh? You can’t even defend yourself from a simple tickle attack.” Regaining their breath as their laughter died down, Frisk moved to sit back up facing their partner.
“Yeah yeah, you win this time. But don’t think just because you won the battle that you won the war.”
Raising their hands up again threateningly, with their fingers moving all about, made Frisk stand up a bit on the bed. Ready to run at a moment's notice from another possible attack. Stuck in a rock and a hard place Frisk knew their time was short. If they couldn’t think of a good way out of this, they would definitely be in for another attack. And just like before they would be unable to stop it.
Quick on their feet, Frisk hopped up off the bed and onto the soft white carpet of their bedroom. “Let’s fuse!”
Tilting their head to the side Clover stared at their partner with a very confused look. “Fuse?”
“Yeah, fusion!” Frisk said with more excitement.
When Clover did not respond right away, Frisk dragged them off of their bed by their arm. “Chara and I, after we got them their own body through splitting my soul, tried to see if we could temporarily become one person again. Chara came up with the idea after talking with Alphys. Apparently there was this ancient human dance then when done right two people could become one person. Not only that but if done right their strength, speed and power would be doubled.”
“Wait seriously?!” Clover asked with stars in their eyes. The idea of the two becoming one person sounded beyond awesome. The fact that they could possibly end up being doubly strong and fast too was a concept that definitely intrigued the hero of the wild west.
“Chara told me all about it and how to do it. We tried a couple of times but unfortunately it didn’t pan out. Turns out a few requirements are needed, and we just didn’t meet them.”
“Well, what are the requirements?” They asked with wonder.
“Well, you have to get the dance right. Which we did and also be the same species which we are.”
“Not that Chara is too thrilled about it.” Clover snickered.
“Hey that's my big sibling you're talking about!” Frisk yelled with mock offense.
“Yeah, Yeah.” Clover said with a small wave.
Huffing Frisk continued. “Anyway, the only requirement we messed up on is that both people need to be the same height.”
Clover pondered this for a moment before nodding their head in understanding. “I guess that makes sense. Besides, Chara is pretty much a bean pole.”
Gasping, Frisk looked around the room as though something or rather someone would jump out from the shadows. “I’d be careful if I were you. If Chara heard you saying that about them, they would deftly put you in a headlock and give you the worst noogy.”
A small shutter went down Clover’s spine when they thought about it. As lanky as Chara is, they are surprisingly strong. They have no idea where they hide their muscles but whatever training they and Undyne do, it must be something else to allow them to easily beat Clover anytime they fight in one of their pretend games.
“Well, they won’t be as tough or mighty when we fuse!” Emphasizing their point, Clover clenched their fist in front of their chest. “So, how do we do it?”
“That’s the spirit! It goes like this.” Placing both arms parallel to their chest and legs spread, Frisk slowly walked over to the side. “Fuuuuu.” Moving their arms to the other side of their body and going up on one leg Frisk continued. “Siiionnn.” Finally, they went back down on both legs as they bent their body slightly to where their arms are now pointing to with their index fingers pointed out. “HAAAAA!”
Clover was completely mesmerized by the dance. Shaking in excitement, the curly haired human marched right across from Frisk. “Let’s do it!”
“Just follow my lead.” The pair went through the motions following each step in sync with one another. The dance was almost complete and the moment of truth was finally about to arrive. A brand-new type of human will soon emerge. A human destined to be the protector of all humanity and monster kind. Finally, their fingers touched with each of them screaming the last part.
Clover’s eyes were shut tight as they waited for the fusion to finally be done. Yet the all too familiar sound of Frisk chuckling, along with feeling that grin of theirs on them without having to even look. Opening their eyes they saw their partner doing their best to not roll over with laughter.
“Ohh my gosh you looked ridiculous!” Fisk laughed; finger pointed out at their partner.
A small tint of red tinted Clover’s cheeks. They had been duped. Tricked. Bamboozled by the very person they saw and admitted to everyone who would be willing to hear and even if they weren’t they would still shout to the heavens as being their partner. “What? You tricked me!”
Sticking out their tongue Frisk made a face. “That’s what you get for tickling me, Clover.”
“So, that whole story was…”
“Funny enough, that part was kinda true. Chara and I did the dance, but it didn’t work. Turns out Alphys’s ‘research’ was just an old anime. ‘Fighters Square Z.’”
Yet again Frisk got one over on me. What’s the record now, 58 to 3? Come on, think Clover. You can’t let them have the last laugh. Tickling them again wouldn’t count since I already did that, so…. “Alright you win that one. But seeing as its pretty late we should hit the sack soon. Unless you can stay up all night.”
Making an ‘x’ formation with their arms, Frisk’s face morphed into their signature poker face. “Now way. Mom would kill me.”
Having more than enough tact to point out that she in fact did kill Frisk, although not in this timeline, Clover went on with the next phase of their plan. “As I thought. The great and mighty ambassador is too chicken to stay up past their bedtime. It’s the weekend and they still won’t break that rule. Guess the ambassador is not all there cracked up to be.” Taking a glance at Frisk, the look on their face was subtle but Clover knew all too well that they got them in their quickly laid trap.
“Ohh yeah?!” Hook, line, and sinker.
Keeping a calm exterior all the while bristling with smugness on the inside, Clover walked around Frisk before plopping down in the end of the bed. Grabbing the remote, Clover turned the tv on to some random channel that was playing some random movie. “Do you accept the challenge?”
“Heck yeah I do!” Taking the top part of the bed, Frisk was quick to snatch the bowl of candy before Clover could even attempt to get themself a handful. “First one to fall asleep loses.”
“If I win then you have to wear a hat like mine for a week.”
“Then if I win you have to let me put makeup on you every day before school for a week.”
“Deal.”
“Deal.”
Thus the battle to stay awake the longest had begun. Turning off the lights and turning down the brightness and sound on the t.v, as to not alert Toriel, the two began their epic battle to stay awake. As the hours ticked away the junk food slowly became depleted along with the copious amounts of soda pop. Soon an array of game CDs and movie boxes were cascaded around the floor. Yet, neither human was willing to give in. Too much was on the line. Closer and closer morning came yet neither one was in any more willing to throw in the towel. No. This was no longer a battle to see who would win the prize at the end. But instead, it was a battle of pride.
As the first rays of sunlight bristled through the curtains of the room, Clover rubbed their eyes gently. Glancing over at the nearby clock the time read ‘11:15 am.’ Yawning, the human was about to get off of the rather comfortable bed until feeling a small weight next to them. There was their partner in crime. Sleeping away without a care in the world. Taking a moment to watch them sleep as their chest rose and fell with each breath, Clover then made the decision to lay their head back down.
I don’t really know when I fell asleep and I’m going to go out a limb here and say that Frisk doesn’t either. I could just pretend I’ve been awake the whole time but….. Taking another glance at their partner’s cute sleeping face, Clover’s mouth curled in a small smile. Then again, I guess losing wouldn’t beat the worst option.
Only a few minutes later did Frisk wake up. Giving a huge yawn, Frisk ran their fingers through their hair. “Mornin.”
“Mornin pardner.”
“Did I lose?” They asked sleepily, not fully registering the world around them.
“Nah, you totally beat me. I fell asleep before you.”
Perking up, it was as if by magic that the morning grogginess left their body completely. “Wait for real?!”
Yep, I made the right call . “Totally.”
Pumping their fist in the air with victory, Frisk gave Clover a wicked grin. “Guess this cowboy is going to look a lot cuter for a week.”
“Hey! I’m always cute.” They shot back.
“Well duh, that’s a given. I just mean that with my expertise your face is going to be glowing in cuteness.”
On second thought, maybe I should have just told them I won .
—----------------------------------------------
“So, what’s with the blush and mascara?” Chara asked while walking alongside their friend in the school hallway.
Breathing out a sigh, Clover explained. “I lost a bet with Frisk and now I have to let them put makeup on me for a week”
Nodding, Chara bent down a bit to get a better look. “Honestly not a bad job. I would give it an eight out of ten. Frisk has definitely come far in their training.”
“Training?”
“Who do you think does frisk’s makeup whenever they get the urge to wear some? I’ve been teaching them how for a while and they have most certainly been improving in the craft.” Chara said with an air of pride.
“Yeah well, I’m not exactly used to this sort of thing. I mean don’t get me wrong and all, I think it looks nice and everything but its not really my style.”
“Clover, you wear overalls and cowboy boots to school practically every day. You don’t have a style .” Chara replied flatly, using air quotes to mark the word ‘style’.
Crossing their arms, Clover turned their face away. “I do too! You just can’t appreciate it.”
“Sure, whatever you say. Any who, I’ve got to get going before I’m late.” Turning their heel, Chara left the other to continue on their way.
Right as they were approaching their class the buzz of their phone alerted them to a text. Reaching into their pocket they saw that their partner messaged them.
Frisk: Get any compliments yet?
Clover: No, I’m pretty sure it's too subtle to really notice.
Frisk: Well, I think you look amazing and super cute!!!!!!!
Clover: You said that like a million times today
Frisk: Then I guess I have to say it 999 more times!
Clover: Why that number?
Frisk: Because it’s the highest number you can ever go. No other number reaches that high. So, I’ll say that you look amazing 999 more times.
Clover: I can’t believe I decided to date you
Frisk: :)
Clover: Dork
Frisk: *Your Dork

Chapter Text
“Halloween just ended a month ago, Frisk!” Clover bemoaned, standing in front of their partner’s doorway. “Plus, Thanksgiving is right around the corner.” With a groan, they look around the redecorated room, the usual color of the fairy lights adorning the upper walls, which are a typical mix of blues and pinks, are now red, green, and white. There was now also a small little Christmas tree next to the carpet, sitting directly in the middle of the room. All the while a grinning Frisk sat, ornaments in their lap whilst sticking out their tongue to Clover in a playful manner.
“Oh, come on Clover, you’re just like Azzy.” Frisk teases, before taking a firmer tone. “It doesn’t matter that Thanksgiving is next week. Christmas comes right after so it's totally important that we get ready for Santa. So, get your cowboy butt over here and help me decorate.”
“Seriously?” Clover asked, clearly confused.
A single nod and particular look was all it took to make the former hero of the Dunes close the door behind them and grab a handful of ornaments from Frisk’s lap. “I’m gonna take a wild guess here and say that the lights and the tree are just the beginning?”
“Uh huh.” Frisk calmly replied, sorting the ornaments in the box on their lap into the several around them. “Mom and Dad are going shopping later and I have saved up my allowance to get some more things to make this room look like the North Pole.”
“I didn't realize I was going out with a Christmas fanatic .” Clover playfully said. Yet no amount of playfulness was enough to deter Frisk from pouting.
“Christmas is very important, you know.” They defended. “Plus, it's the best holiday ever.”
Raising their hands up in surrender, Clover conceded. “Okay, okay, I get it. ‘Christmas is awesome’, yeah, but again, it’s still only November, and you already want to deck the halls.”
Looking at the ground, Frisk put on a dejected face. “Are you saying that you are not going to help your awesome, super-duper cute, and nice partner decorate?” They quietly asked.
Crap. It’s that look again. The puppy dog eyes. Look away Clover before it's too late! Nope dang it, I looked. Knowing it would only be a futile effort to fight against one of Frisk’s pouting looks, Clover reluctantly nodded their head. “Alright, I’ll help you.” Frisk’s face immediately lit up. Dropping the box from their lap, ornaments spilling out across the floor, Frisk shot up and wrapped their arms tightly around Clover.
“Thank you! You're the best!” They squealed
Which would be adorable if Clover wasn’t actively being suffocated. “T..too tight…can’t…breath Frisk.”
Quickly letting go, Frisk gave a bashful look. “Oops, Sorry. I forget how much of a string bean you are.” They apologized as Clover was catching their breath. Taking a glance around the room, Frisk’s mind began to wander into deep thought. Looking over at the multiple boxes of Christmas items, a particular one half-hidden behind the rest caught their eye.
Forcing down the sly smile threatening to make itself known, Frisk turned their head slightly past their shoulder. “Hey partner.”
Having finally caught their breath, the cowboy missed the other’s influx in tone. “Yeah?”
“Let’s handle the rest of the ornaments later. There is something that I need help with.” Frisk continued in their weird tone, Clover slightly catching on to it.
“Oh sure.” They agreed, slightly narrowing their eyes. “What is it?”
Smirking, Frisk sauntered over to the open box holding an assortment of Christmas goodies. Digging quickly through the container, the human found what they were looking for. Small and green, with a few plastic berries on the top of the leaves, Frisk raised it up high for Clover to see. “This here!”
“What’s that?”
Blank. Frisk’s face immediately went blank as their mind raced. How do they not know what this is? Maybe they just haven’t seen one in a while? Guess my partner needs a bit of a push. Typical. I guess I’ll have to be the one to nudge them in the right direction. Regaining their composure, Frisk heads to their door, idly explaining what it is. “It’s a traditional Christmas decoration that goes on the top of a person’s door. And I’m not tall enough to reach the top of the door. Think you can do it for me?”
“Frisk, I’m barely taller than you.” Clover deadpans. “Pretty sure I got you beat by like an inch or two.”
“Please.” Frisk whined.
Clover instantly crumbled. “Alright, I’ll do it.”They relented as they got up from their spot, going to Frisk. Handing the item over to Clover, the taller stood up as high as they could on their tippy-toes to pin it to the small part of the wall above their door. With a bit of stretching of their arms they just manage to press the pin into the wood. As they finished, they turned to see Frisk with their hands behind their back, right cheek facing them.
Brows furrowing, Clover casually poked their partners cheek. “Frisk, what are you doing?” Their words snapped Frisk out of whatever it was they were doing, their face lighting up.
“I…well..you know…actually I got do something quickly.” Frisk stuttered, face getting redder before they stiffen up. “I’ll be right back!” Rushing past the other, Frisk practically bolted out of the room, red ears and all.
Another voice was heard from the hall. “Hey Frisk, have you seen my…nevermind.” The voice trailed off as they were ignored. Poking their head into Frisk’s room, a familiar rosy cheeked human spotted Clover. “What is the matter with Frisk?”
“I don’t know.” Clover honestly answered. “One moment I was helping them out and the next thing I knew they ran out.” They explained, confused.
Hand on hip, Chara gave them a look . “Helping them with what exactly?”
Pointing to the item hanging above Chara’s head, their eyes follow up to said item in question as Clover speaks. “I was helping them hang that up. After I was done, Frisk’s eyes were closed and they were looking off to the side.”
Smacking the palm of their hand on their face, Chara groaned. “You can’t be serious?”
“What?” Clover pressed the matter, still unsure as to what they had done wrong.
“Clover, that right there is called mistletoe. Do you know what that means?” Chara asked, tone much akin to a school teacher lecturing a student.
“Not really.” The cowboy awkwardly admitted. “Frisk said it was something for Christmas, which is a whole nother conversation, seriously who starts decorating in November?”
“Firstly, I and Frisk do.” Chara defended their habits, before moving on. “Secondly, I want to know how it came about that you do not know what a mistletoe is?”
“It wasn’t something the orphanage did.” Clover shrugged, no sarcasm or even trace amounts of grief in their voice. “This is actually gonna be my first Christmas.”
Freezing up, Chara felt a small chill go down their arms. The hairs on the back of their neck standing right up. Biting the inside of their mouth in an attempt to ground themself, Chara took a long deep breath. “I see. I suppose I cannot fault you then for your lack of Christmas knowledge, as I was in a similar position before I met the Dreemurrs.” They admitted, opening up a bit.
“My first Christmas was back in the Underground.” They continued. “I remember all the lights being set up in Snowdin Town, spanning from there all the way to New Home. Monster’s singing and giving each other gifts, everyone was happy and smiling...” Realizing that they were being a bit too open for their liking, Chara cleared their throat, quickly moving on. “Anyway that’s besides the point. The problem is that you do not know what a mistletoe means.”
With a bit of whiplash from Chara’s moodshift, Clover nonetheless asked. “So, what does it represent?”
Crossing their arms, Chara stated, “When two people are underneath the mistletoe, they are obligated by the powers of Christmas to kiss.”
“K-K-KISS?!” Clover exclaimed, shocked.
“Yes. Those are the rules of Christmas.” Chara ruthlessly continued. “One of many in fact.”
“So, wait.” Clover pauses for a second, realization hitting them. “When Frisk wanted me to hang up the mistletoe, they knew what the rules were?”
“Well, duh?” Chara looked at Clover like they were an idiot. “I mean, I’m big into Christmas but Frisk is on a whole nother level.” Chara said, arms gesturing around at Frisk’s Christmas themed room.
“Hang on a moment.” Clover slammed the brakes on the conversation going any further, still caught up on a certain point. “I mean, they want me to kiss them…on the lips?”
Chara immediately shot Clover a disgusted glance. “Ew, don’t be gross. It is well known with the rules of mistletoe that you only kiss someone on the cheek.” They educated Clover, trying to clear up this misunderstanding. “Also, you must also be out of this world if you think I would let you kiss my sibling on the lips cowboy .”
Clover was relieved. “Oh, okay that is a lot less embarrassing... I think?”
“Indeed.” Chara agrees, before moving on to the much more important topic. “Now, it seems that your lack of knowledge made Frisk embarrassed. How you are able to accomplish that is completely beyond me, especially considering I watched them flirt with every single monster they came across in the Underground. That truly is a terrifying ability you have.” Shaking their head at the memory, Chara continued, stepping closer to Clover. “So now, you have a responsibility to make it up to my dear sibling.” They said, marking each word with a poke to the cowboy’s chest.
Stepping back with a slight push against Chara’s hand, they frown at them "And how do you reckon I do that?”
Flashing a cheeky smile, Chara flaunted the mistletoe in their hand, having taken it down who knows when. “Simple, all you have to do is give them what they originally wanted.” Gulping, Clover gave a wonderful look to the ever approaching Chara.
Stepping out of the downstairs bathroom, Frisk ran their hands down their face, groaning at what transpired. Seriously, how did I mess this up so bad? I just wanted them to make the move. I get that they can be a bit on the shy side when it comes to this but I thought they would catch on. It was going to be totally sweet and be just the thing I need to get the fullness of the Christmas spirit. Making their way through the hallway to go back upstairs to their room, they sincerely hoped that Clover would be distracted over something else and wouldn’t bring up the whole mistletoe thing.
Opening the door to their room, Frisk stepped inside the pitch-black room. Confused, Frisk flipped on the light switch, revealing their partner standing in the middle of the room, cowboy hat on with the mistletoe attached to the brim on the front of the hat. Unsure of what was going on, Frisk absentmindedly shut the door behind them. “Whatcha doing?” They asked.
Clearing their throat and failing to fight off the blush on their face, Clover took a step forward. “Well, I thought that maybe instead of hanging the mistletoe on your door it would look better on my hat.” They said with a strange confidence, one that instantly crumbled after they said it. “Do…do you…I mean…if you would like to maybe see it up close?”
Now it was Frisk’s turn to be flustered. Sure, this is what they were hoping would happen, but it was one thing to fantasize their partner pulling off something so freaking cool, but a whole other issue of them actually going through with it. Gathering up their courage and putting on a fake front, Frisk smiled at Clover. “Maybe the decoration does look better on you than on the door.” They Flirt. “Best to take a closer look just to be sure~.”
Now face to face, the humans waited with bated breath for the other to make the first move. Frisk clenched their fists tightly, far too embarrassed now to make any sort of move while Clover was in a similar state. It felt like an eternally for the both of them, as despite being within arm's length of each other, neither of them were able to make a single move.
A few more seconds passed as Clover finally cracked first, unable to take the awkward tension any longer. Clover puckered up and gave a quick chaste peck to Frisk’s cheek.
Moving their face away, Clover held their breath as they waited for the partner to respond. Luckily for the Clover, Frisk did not hesitate to wrap their arms around Clover, somehow squeezing even tighter than before around the poor cowboy. Snuggling into their shoulder, Frisk shot a cheeky grin up to them. “Took you long enough cowboy.”
“Ye…yee haw.” Clover struggled to get out.
“Pfffftttt.” Frisk couldn't contain their laughter anymore as they released the hug. “Seriously? That was our first kiss and you say ‘yeehaw’?” Embarrassed at being called out, Clover quickly got revenge by giving another peck to Frisk’s other cheek. Frisk slowly brought their hand up, resting it on their cheek. Auburn eyes meeting gold, Frisk felt their face light up.
“Dang, I knew you and Chara were siblings, but I never thought you would look so similar to them.” Clover smugly commented. Said smugness lasted less than a moment, as a quick shove knocked Clover right on their butt and onto the soft carpet underneath.
Crossing their arms, Frisk shook their head in disappointment. “You really know how to kill the mood.”
“Mood?” Clover questioned.
“Oh right.” Frisk swiftly remembered that Clover was romance illiterate. “I guess I have to walk you through everything don’t I?” Reaching a hand out to them, Frisk lifted up their partner back on their feet. “You really need to hang with Alphys more.” they idly comment, before their face lights up with an idea. “Ooh! You should watch her selection of romance anime.”
Grimacing at the thought, Clover quickly shook their head. “Ew, no! That’s just stupid romance stuff, it’s lame.”
Frisk pointed up at Clover’s hat with a deadpan expression, almost poking the mistletoe hanging there. Looking up at where Frisk was pointing, the cowboy could only shrug in response. “That’s just different.”
“Wha-what?! How?!” Frisk demanded, shocked at the idiocracy of their partner.
“Just is.”
“...you are so dang lucky you're cute.” Frisk mutters under their breath. “But if you want to be better at doing grand gestures such as, well…you know…then you’re going to need a bit of help.” Slinking under their bed, Frisk fumbled with a few things before pulling out a dvd.
“A movie is going to help me with what exactly?” Clover asked.
“Taking the lead!” Frisk shouted with determination; finger pointed up at the sky.
Squinting their eyes at the box art, Clover tried to read the title from a distance. “Mew Mew Kiss a Cutie?”
“Kissy cutie, actually.” They calmly correct, opening up the case and making sure the disc was in it. “This is going to help you take the lead.”
“Lead?” Clover was still lost. “I really don’t get what you're saying Frisk.”
Huffing at their partner’s lack of knowledge, but unwilling to budge and spell things out for them, Frisk tossed the dvd to Clover. “Sorry bucko but you have to figure it out yourself. It would be rude to make a royal Prinx such as myself to explain it all away~.” They say in a mock royal tone, turning their face upwards in a snobbish way.
Dropping to a kneeling position, Clover bowed their head. “Of course your majesty. How foolish of me. I shall learn to ‘take the lead’ right away.” They spoke in a mock deep voice.
“Good. See that this is done tonight.” Frisk gives a royal nod of acceptance. “Now, you shall remain here playing on my fightstation 5 until my parents and I come back. I will arrange a meeting between you and Lady Martlet to see about you staying over.”
“I am so grateful for your excellency.” Clover moves one of their hands to their chest. “But do note that Lady Mom told me earlier that if your mom said I could, we could hangout longer or even spend the night.”
Nodding, Frisk signaled for Clover to rise. “Good. Then you shall await my return.”
“Yes your majesty!”
It was an hour or so later when Frisk came back from the shops, hands filled to the brim with Christmas delights and such. Spilling the contents all over their bed, they immediately went right back down stairs without so much as saying ‘hi’ to Clover as they rang up Martlet. After a short conversation to let her know that Toriel said it was fine, they made a b-line back up to their room.
Sitting down next to their partner, who was in the middle of a fighting game, they picked up the unused controller, hooking the cord up as Clover finished their match so they could play some two player matches.
As the night went on, the decorations were left forgotten as the pair played far past their scheduled bedtimes. Wrappers were strewn about and the carpet had a few new soda stains, but neither one of them made much of a fuss about it, deciding to leave their worries about things for the morning.
In the hue of the blue light coming from the t.v, the pair simply enjoyed having a very Merry Christmas together.
