Chapter Text
Sonic the Hedgehog: Located.
Objective nearing completion.
Sonic the Hedgehog will soon die.
Metal Sonic sped through an Eggman base towards the intruders; one of which was Sonic the Hedgehog. The other two’s identities were of negligible importance; the only thing of importance was that his nemesis, his loathsome copy, was in the vicinity. Metal Sonic had no orders not to kill his loathsome copy and he even suspected that his master would be happy for Metal Sonic to kill him. If so, Metal Sonic was happy to oblige. If not, his master would understand when Sonic’s disembodied head was placed on his computer.
Only one thing separates Metal Sonic and his prey.
Analysis Complete.
Obstacle: Titanium Door
Door’s Structure: Weak.
Door’s Importance: Worthless.
Suggested Course of Action: Annihilate the Obstacle
Metal Sonic activated his V. Maximum Overdrive and barrels towards the door.
Sonic sped through Eggman’s base. He jumped over a few spikes and onto a wall, which he bounced off of, launching himself straight into an Egg Pawn, tearing it apart. Sonic uncurled and kept running without losing even a bit of speed. As he continued forward, Sonic barely noticed in time as a giant axe swung down. Without time to go around, Sonic fell onto his back and turned his head just a bit. He slid under, feeling the air rush past his nose. However, Sonic was able to get through practically unscathed, jumping up onto his feet. Sonic was about to start running again when he heard a familiar voice cry out.
“For the millionth time, Sonic, you’ve gotta watch where you’re going!” Tails yells.
Sonic’s best bud was exaggerating… probably. The two were as close as brothers, even calling each other as such, but Tails still couldn’t get Sonic to “look before you leap,” if you will. No matter how many times he was told otherwise, Sonic was determined to live his life on the edge; otherwise, was he really even living? This attitude caused much of Tails’ dismay, but he has accepted that this is part of who Sonic is. Luckily, Tails still can and has saved Sonic’s life quite a few times.
“Come on, bro! You know that a simple trap like that won’t get me!” Sonic argues.
Then, a robot landed next to Sonic; one made by Eggman and considered among his most powerful. It even gave Sonic trouble defeating it multiple times, but unlike most of Eggman’s creations, this one has changed for the better after being reprogrammed by Tails. Now the robot, named Gemerl, guards Cream the Rabbit’s house and all the inhabitants therein. Hence why it and the chao accompanying it, Cheese, came to Eggman’s base; Eggman had kidnapped Cream the Rabbit and none of these heroes would let that stand.
“Blood detected on your nose. There was a 48% chance of it being permanently lost.” Gemerl pointed out.
That brought Sonic out of his reverie quite quickly.
“Ganging up on me?! That’s no fair, guys!” Sonic exclaimed.
“We’re not attacking you, we’re trying to make sure you don’t die!” Tails almost pulled out his fur in exasperation.
“And ensuring you keep your nose,” Gemerl added.
“You guys are no fun!” Sonic half-pouted. However, the other side was smirking. It was fun to get on Tails’ nerves. He’d prefer agitating Knuckles or Shadow any day, but he’d take what he could get.
“No fun? Okay, let’s take away your ‘fun,’” Tails suggested.
“Huh?” Sonic questioned, not sure he heard his brother correctly.
Tails flew down and grabbed Sonic, then started flying across the base, over pits with acid, spikes, moving platforms, badniks, and much more stuff Sonic didn’t get to run around in often enough.
“Hey!” Sonic yelled. He couldn’t believe his brother would do this!
Sonic eventually wrangled free of his brother’s grasp. However, Gemerl grabbed his wrist and continued the endeavor, flying past even more obstacles. Were those robotic sharks?! Sonic was able to escape from that as well, but by the time he hit the ground, he had gotten past the obstacle course completely.
“Why’d you do that, lil bro?” Sonic asked.
“Because it’s less dangerous and we can save Cream faster,” Tails answered without missing a beat.
Sonic was about to open his mouth to object to the first half of the statement, but he couldn’t argue with the second, so he decided to continue without argument.
Sonic, Tails, Gemerl, and Cheese took a few steps into a chamber. It had solid steel walls on each side besides the one they came from. On their right and left were thick steel doors without any handles or anything of the like.
“So, how do we get through those doors?” Sonic asks.
Tails pointed the Miles Electric at the right door. Gemerl directed his optical receptors at the same door. However, before either of them could finish an analysis, the door bursted off of its hinges when a blue robot barreled through it and straight at Sonic.
Sonic sidestepped the attack, but barely. He felt the air rush past him and the heat from his rocket engine as the robot flew right at where Sonic was a mere moment before. The robot turned around and landed on its feet. Then, its eyes locked with the eyes of its loathsome copy.
“You wanna tussle, Metal? Let’s tussle!” Sonic shouted.
Sonic revved up a spin dash and let it loose, rushing towards Metal Sonic at supersonic speeds. Metal Sonic activated his Black Shield before Sonic hit him, forcing Sonic to bounce off harmlessly, before he dropped the Black Shield and activated his Ring Spark Field. Sonic spasmed as volts flooded into him, allowing Metal Sonic to rocket forward and grab Sonic by the throat before slamming him into a wall. Metal Sonic dragged Sonic across the wall, scraping him up and throwing Sonic backwards, towards the ground. Metal Sonic raced to pin Sonic to the ground.
Right before Sonic hit the ground, he extended his hands and caught himself, doing a backflip upwards. As Metal Sonic neared him, Sonic kicked him in the face and launched him away, clanging to the ground. Instead of following up in the traditional sense, Sonic gave a quip.
“Ah, Metal, you ruined my quills! Instead of scraping them against a wall, I prefer to use a brush. I’ll give you lessons if you want!”
While the Metal Sonic seemed expressionless to an inexperienced bystander, Sonic had been around the robot enough to recognize the hate flaming in his eyes.
“How does next Tuesday work for you?” Sonic mockingly asked. His sarcasm is palpable. “No? You know, Eggman still hasn’t given you what I have.”
Metal Sonic tilted his head, as if asking a question: “What?” As Metal Sonic did so, he finally got to his feet, only for two Spin Dashes to hit the robot from the side and cause him to crumple over.
“Friends!” Sonic exclaimed.
Tails and Gemerl rebounded away from Metal Sonic, only for Sonic to follow with an identical Spin Dash. However, Metal Sonic was prepared this time and activated his Black Shield. Yet, before Sonic impacted, Metal Sonic took down his Black Shield. Sonic had already anticipated Metal Sonic attempting to replicate his previous trap and bounced upwards out of reach of Metal Sonic’s Ring Spark Field. Unfortunately for him, Metal Sonic had already adapted, using his V. Maximum Overdrive to rocket forward at Tails. The fox was too slow to escape and Sonic was too high to stop him.
Target: Miles “Tails” Prower.
Distance: 100 feet.
Distance: 50 feet.
Distance: 20 feet.
Before Metal Sonic could transform Tails into roadkill, Gemerl stepped in the way and activated a Black Shield; one thing Gemerl had copied among other bits of Metal Sonic’s data while the robot fought Sonic.
Gemerl’s copied Black Shield brought Metal Sonic to a complete halt and fall over. Additionally, the aftermath of V. Maximum Overdrive stunned Metal Sonic for long enough that Sonic returned and landed directly on top of Metal Sonic, pinning him to the ground. Behind him, Gemerl lowered his Black Shield while Tails walked up to be next to Gemerl.
“Metal Sonic, You know it doesn’t have to end with only one Sonic. I’ll give you another opportunity. You can be a good guy.”
Sonic reached out his hand towards Metal Sonic. Before anything else could be done, a massive tear appeared in the far wall. Then, the entire wall became nothing but scrap metal. Sonic, his doppelgänger, Tails, Gemerl, and even Cheese turned to look at what caused such a ruckus.
It was none other than Eggman’s latest machine: a ginormous Eggman mech, easily four stories tall; absolutely towering over the battlers. It had Eggman’s classic iconography: his face, complete with a glorious mustache. It had two arms and two legs, each armed with several dangerous weapons. However, the most notable part was in the middle, which was transparent in the center. Within it, all noticed Cream the Rabbit banging on it with an expression a mix of fear and relief.
