Benrey sits in his spinning chair knowing on the tips of his claws, not thinking about anything in particular
That was a lie. He was thinking about Gordon.
Benreys just not sure what exactly about Gordon is keeping him here, dissociatingly chewing at his hands
Benrey has so many theories on how Gordon might feel about him and yet he has no clue which would even be close to the truth
Maybe he should just try asking next time
Does Gordon want Benrey to socialize with his young son or does Gordon want Benrey to stay away from him..
Benrey doesn’t care if Gordon thinks he’d be a bad influence, he is probably right. Benrey doesn’t know the first thing about kids. The little dude kind of freaks Benrey out actually. Not entirely sure why. I guess it’s just something new.
Benrey does know that children are important to people, he doesn’t want to do or say the wrong thing to Joshua cuz maybe Gordon will kick him out for it or something.
Sounds like something that could happen.
Benrey hears the door freak open and he spins around in his spiny chair to see Joshua in the doorframe
“..Dad?”
“Uh.. no”
Joshua doesn’t say anything else and there’s an awkward silence
Bro what does benrey do. What’s he supposed to do here. Is he- should he wake up Gordon or- bring Joshua to him? Will Gordon be annoyed?
Benrey starts “He’s in the other room, h- you know his room” Joshua just stares so he continues
“You- you know where his room is right?”
Josh nods, Benrey now notices the boy is clutching a blanket with a horse stuffed animal wrapped in it
It’s dark, Benrey was in fact sitting in the dark, but his computer was on; lighting up the room with a dim cyan blue light. Even in this darkness Benrey can see just fine, being alien and all.
And so Benrey sees that joshua’s pout is now being accompanied by small tears welling up in his eyes just in time for benreys mind to register that pout equals not too happy
Benrey’s mind immediately blares alarms at this, he doesn’t know what you do when a normal human cries, the hell does he do when a child cries?
Josh starts talking finally but his voice is shaky and slightly high pitched in comparison to before
“I had a- a b-bad dream and I want daddy but his- it’s too far in th- the dark”
Little bro is scared of the dark, benrey’s the perfect guy for this job he’s great at transporting people he’s a fucking security guard this is his styck this is what he freaking does yo.
“Oh uh yeah I can take u over there bro I’m great at- ywah cmon let’s go” Benrey keeps his usual monotone voice as before despite the new development of Joshua’s cries, hoping it’ll make the kid less embarrased just in case he was. Not that benrey really knows how to do ither voices but you know. Whatever.
Benrey gets up from his spinny chair and Joshua steps out of the way of the doorframe to let him pass. As soon as benrey enters the hallway it’s- I mean yeah the kid wasn’t lying it’s actually like unreasonably dark and frightening in this hallway.
But it’s fine benrey’s super tough and shit, the kids got nothing to worry about
Benrey takes a step forward into the pitch black hallway towards Gordon room but he feels his pant leg be pulled by the little hand of Josh, keeping him from going further
Confused benrey looks back and down at Joshua, thought he wanted to go. What was the deal
Joshua wasn’t looking at benrey though, just at the dark hallway. The kid was really so hairy he couldn’t reach the light switches?
“Right” Benrey says out loud, just to assure Joshua that he’s still there he guesses.
Now benrey could hypothetically just turn the lights on, but he thinks he’s on a roll with this whole communicating with a human thing so he wants to impress Gordon’s kid with something a bit cooler then a light switch
So Benrey lets out blue orbs of illuminated sweet voice. They light up the hallway and joshua is astonished by the show of unnatural abilities
Hell yeah benrey cool guy points
The kid lets go of benrey and so benrey starts to walk following the orbs of light, different shades and gradients of blue leading the way to Gordon’s bedroom door. Joshua follows this time, looking mostly up at the orbs in fascination and amazement.
They get to Gordon’s door and Benrey isn’t sure if he should knock or just open it and let joshua inside, but joshua beats him to the decision and knocks loudly and abruptly on Gordon’s door about four times
Benrey is slightly caught off guard by this as everything up till now has been somewhat hushed.
But nonetheless seconds later Gordon opens his door rubbing his temples and he puts on his glasses to look at Benrey
“Benrey?” Gordon asks confused before looking down at his kid, cradling a stuffed animal in his blanket. “Oh.”
“He- uhh..” Benrey starts to explain but is interrupted by Josh “Benny can blow bubbles.”
Gordon looks back up at Benrey and they aren’t sure what their expression means. Was Benrey not supposed to use his dope ass powers in front of gordos kid. Is that like a human rule or something. Or is he not even upset, benrey can’t tell.
“Bright bubbles.” Josh continues “It reminds me of when I bit into a glow stick-“ the boys father intrudes
“No josh it’s not like when you bit a glow stick, remember we don’t bite glow sticks-“
Josh pushes past Gordon and presumedly jumps into bed apparently done with the conversation
Benrey watches the boy go and when he looks up Gordon’s already looking at Benrey. His hair is tangled and it has escaped its usual ponytail.
“Uh. Thanks?” Gordon says with what sounds like a little confusion, he’s probably not fully awake just yet
“Huh? Oh yeah no biggie.” Benrey puts his claws in his hoodie pockets not knowing what to do with them
Benrey starts to rock on his heels
“… are you- do you need something?” Gordon asks,
“Oh no- I- ywah I’m chilling”
“..okayyyy?”
“Okay I’ll go now bye goodnight”
Benrey wonders why he is so awkward and Gordon wonders the same.
Benrey follows the now dissipating sweet voicw orbs back to his room and Gordon watches
Gordon shuts the door softly and retreats back to bed
Benrey shuts his own door and goes back to gnawing on his claws and staring at his computer screen
