Summary
The wind blew and the silence between them grew contemplative. The air was thick with memories and feelings. A leaf skittered across the ground. There were no flowers, no candles, the wreaths, photos, or any sign at all that anyone who had died was missed.
Wanda felt tears well up in her eyes. Was this really all that was left? A hunk of stone and two broken people who had killed and murdered their way through life?
She saw the Baron quickly wipe his eyes.
“Did you lose someone?” she whispered.
There was a beat of tense silence. They both knew the answer.
“Yes,” he finally answered, voice husky with emotion. “And you?”
“Yes.” Her lip trembled.
