Chapter 1: Chapter 1
Chapter Text
Log #45
It's been about 15 days since the demon king was defeated. His influence being lifted from greater Hyrule should allow me to progress my research into other fields…such the central Hyrule field of course! I will take a closer look at the debris of the upheaval and bring back any interesting findings!
Josha finished up her log and put her journal back in her bag.
“Okay,” she said to herself, “let's see what we've got here…”
Josha had gotten out into the field relatively early in the day. At this point it was no longer dark, but the sun have only just barely risen. The first stop on her little expedition would be at a rock formation.
She picked up the strange looking pebbles scattered around, broken off from the formation. Nothing too special, but definitely a type of material not found so commonly in the ordinary landscape's soil.
Just for the sake of it, she threw a few rocks in her bag, moving on to the other side of the rock pillar.
What was waiting behind this formation, was a tad bit more interesting. Makeshift weapons, materials scattered here and there. It seemed to be an abandoned monster camp - or at least some kind of pit stop of sorts.
Monster sightings have gone down a considerable amount after the demon king's defeat. Likely going into greater isolation or being more easily driven out of their claimed territory due to their now weakened states without the abundance of their lord's dark magic.
While a bit intriguing, this abandoned monster spot didn’t feel like it was worth scavenging around in. Josha was more interested in studying something a tad more…exotic.
Ready to move on, she was just on her way to elsewhere.
…but then she heard a quiet noise coming from the planks of wood left at the campsite.
…eh. Probably just wind. She thought.
….
And then the noise came from the wood again, louder and more aggressive.
…Okayyy, probably not wind.
Josha slowly, cautiously approached the rumble, with a stick she had found to slightly lift the planks of wood off the ground to see who, or what, was under it.
Then that mystery was quickly solved. The source of the sounds were actually three sources.
A baby bokoblin, baby moblin, and hatchling Lizalfo.

What have I got myself in to!?
Chapter 2: Chapter 2
Chapter Text
“…Everything's fine…everythings normal…” Josha said to herself.
A beat passed before she looked to the other side of her room, with three monster babies sitting there, looking around aimlessly.
EVERYTHING IS NOT NORMAL! She rebuked, in her head of course.
Josha didn’t know why she decided to sneak the trio of newborn monsters back into town. They may have been babies, but they were also monsters...small, adorable, hardly aware monsters…
“Okay…” she muttered to herself, “let’s just…keep things a bit more discreet for you three…”
She grabbed the babies and placed them in the back storage room of her lab. Quite convenient for Lookout Landing to be going through a renovation to establish it as Hyrule’s new capital settlement. Those renovations gave Josha a proper suite, one with a door, walls, comfort, and most important of all in this particular situation: privacy.
In the back room, Josha gave the baby monsters a large, soft rag to stay comfortable and moved any potentially dangerous hazards out of the room just in case any of the three gave in to their curiosities.
“Okay then, baby monsters,” Josha started, “my name is Josha. Joooh-Shaaa…” They looked at her with eyes filled with curiosity but also had nothing going on in their heads. “Listen, you little guys are probably confused about why or how you ended up here…to be honest, I barely really know myself…but, you’re here now! In my storage room!…if we’re gonna do this, you three have to keep as quiet as you can. You may not be outside for a minute (not for the public to see anyways), but I’ll keep you fed, give you toys to play with maybe?...we um, we understand each other?”
…
“Bahh! Hehe!” the baby bokoblin babbled, reaching for Josha.
“...right…” Josha responded uneasily.
…
Josha spent the rest of the day in her lab, more or less shut off from the settlement, just trying to wrap her head around the strange day she has had…the questionable decisions she made, impulsive or not. Going back and forth once every few minutes, from fiddling around with the junk on her desk to checking on the monsters' infants hidden in her closet - it didn’t even cross her mind that she hadn’t eaten a proper meal that night.
The entire day seemed to have zoomed past her. Just before going to bed, she checked on the babies one last time; sound asleep, cuddling one another. But even laying in bed, she was kept up for longer than she wanted because of her own thoughts keeping her away.
“Ughhh…” she groaned into her pillow, “what did I get into…”
Chapter 3: Chapter 3
Chapter Text
Josha normally woke up quite early in the day. Science never sleeps! Or not for too long anyways.
But today, science would be sleeping in for a bit longer than it would any other day. Normally waking up at 5 AM, it was going on until 9 until Josha eventually got up…groggy, and still a bit tired…a bit strange as some nights she’d sleep for a lesser amount of time and wake up just fine.
But of course, last night was not ‘most nights.’
First thing did , however, was rush to the storage room, to make sure the baby monsters were in there, and she didn’t just imagine the day prior. To her relief (and mild disappointment), the three newborns were still in the room. Still sleeping in fact. Definitely sleeping a lot better than Josha.
Josha was about to simply close the door with the confirmation that nothing happened to her unlikely roommates…but, getting a closer look at them, she was…strangle fascinated with them…
They weren’t Hylian babies, but that didn’t make them any less cute…she gently put her finger in the tiny hands of the Bokoblin, still resting so quietly and peacefully.
She nearly jolted when its small, three-digit hand grabbed the finger placed on him.
…then the bokoblin smiled. Coming closer to Josha’s finger, cuddling it, holding on to her tighter, the baby bokoblin smiled ever so warmly.
Josha was at a loss for words - feeling a warm feeling from their mutual displays of affection. But before she just truly reacted, she heard a knock from her door.
She quickly let go of the bokoblins finger, followed by a quiet whine and frown from his face. Quickly closing the closet door, she answered to the front.
“Ah, Josha!” Purah exclaimed, “Had me worried, normally you're up and about by now. Everything okay? Do you need anything?”
Josha hesitated for a second, thinking about what she could say to find a way around this predicament.
“Cough! Cough!” She fake coughed into her arm, “Oh, sorry mo- uh, Miss Purah…I think I caught something last night…cough! I think I should stay here for a while, I don't want to spread anything!”
“Ohhh, that's unpleasant to hear…You know, perhaps I could take a break from my work and stay here to take care of yo-”
“NO!” Josha cut Purah off, “I mean…cough! Cough! Don't pull yourself from your work just for me! I'll be fine…”
“...okay then. Well, just let me know if you need something.”
Josha's stomach growled.
“...some food would be nice,” she responded, “bring…a lot.”
…
With a believable alibi, Josha could breathe just a bit more easily. Digging into a bowl of noodles Purah had given her, she looked at the babies, who she had sat down in front of her, their mouths also watering for some food, their hunger even more solidified by their soft whimpering.
She took some pieces of meat and tore them up into tiny pieces - these monsters may have been infants, but it would seem their teeth were just strong enough to eat tough foods.
“Here you good,” she fed them one by one, “some for you, some for you, and some for-...hmm. Now that I think about it, if I'm going to be taking care of you little guys, you're gonna need names for me to address you, huh?”
The babies giggled at her whilst chewing.
“Hmmm…you will be named…Morty!” She tapped the snout of the Moblin, followed with his babbling laugher.
“You're gonna be named…Lance!” she scratched the tail of the Lizalfo, to which he hissed with affection.
“And you…” she lifted up the Bokoblin, looking at her with sparkles in his eyes, “Your name…is Boris!”
He giggled louder than before, thankfully his chewing muffled the laughter from being too loud.
Josha shifted her gaze between Morty, Lance, and Boris in awe. What was first a feeling of anxiety was now nothing but pure warmth.
She grabbed the three of them in her arms and brought them in for a hug. A gesture they all seemed to very much appreciate, proven by them cuddling against her as well.
“haha…” Josha chucked, a smile on her face, “what have I gotten myself into?”
Chapter 4: Chapter 4
Chapter Text
When finding them, Josh didn't intend on keeping the children in her care for long…she never even really had an intention to begin with. But once she made the decision to name them, it would be next to impossible to let go of them now.
To ensure the best chances of her not being caught, she would stay within the walls of the town. Although staying in the comfort of her home may have worked better in some capacity, getting out at least running an errand or two would be less suspicious.
…But science never sleeps. Josha wanted to continue her research as she had planned on doing before getting caught up in this baby monster fiasco, however, it just would add too much to the risk factor to leave the town to find a few rocks.
…Unless…
Log #47
The boys have been eating quite a lot! They seem to be getting bigger and stronger by the minute. Makes sense I suppose, I initially guessed monsters may have cycles of growth at least partially faster than that of the typical Hylian.
Morty is definitely going to grow to be the strongest of the three - the little big guy nearly broke one of his toys apart just with tiny hands! His muscle mass so far seems to be increasing at a rate of 1.2% each day based on my measurements - it can’t be told if this growth will continue at the same rate as he gets older just yet.
Log #55
Even when I first found them, Boris and Morty had already had a mouth of teeth - already equipped for an omnivorous diet of meats and vegetation. Lance seems to take a more carnivorous diet - insects more specifically.
However, not all their teeth have grown in, naturally. They have begun chewing on objects more and more, a sign of more teeth erupting. And honestly, it saddens me a bit to see my babies all of them in such discomfort.
But on a related, slightly more interesting note, their adult horns seem to be coming in as well! Similar to teething, they try to soothe the discomfort as much as possible, using every surface in the lab as a scratching post!...I have scratches in a lot of my furniture now though.
Log #62
OH MY HYLIA! I never knew bokoblins and moblins could be so fluffy!!!
Morty and Boris have been growing quite a bit of fur, namely on their ears, elbows, and bits of their chest areas. (so soft…) This is strange in that I’ve never heard of them even growing a lot of fur like this…or any for that matter. I looked at the few images of them I could find, doesn’t even seem like they have hair at all…I will have to look into this. (...After snuggling my little guys to death!!!)
Log #68
…
I don’t have any discoveries to write about today…
I was buying them some food from the market, running other errands around town…I just missed them…
…
Nearly three weeks have passed by now, Josha had gotten used to her routine of taking care of her babies - who, by now, were nearly twice the size they were when she first found them.
She decided it would be appropriate to give them proper clothes at this point. Of course, their outfits had to be handmade by herself, to tailor to their sizes and unique body shapes, and she couldn't exactly ask a proper seamstress to make them for her either.
All things considered, their outfits came out well! Small sized, Sheikah fashioned clothing. All of them loved their new garments…Well, Morty hated having a shirt. He took it off right away with an adorable scrunched up face. At least he kept the pants and overshirt on!
Josha could only giggle at Morty’s disapproval of that one item.
It was getting late, time for these three to go to bed…in the storage room…Josha hesitated putting them in there.
“...One night with me couldn’t hurt right?”
The three exclaimed in excitement, understanding what she was proposing.
Josha went to her bed, lifting each of the children up to join her, Lance and Morty snuggled against her, almost instantly falling asleep. Boris, however, babbling continuously at Josha, stayed sitting beside her.
“Mah! Ba-Maa! Jah! Ja-Shaaa!” Boris blabbered,
“Well, aren’t you talkative today,” Josha teased, booping his snout, “What, are you trying to tell mama Josha something important?” She joked even more.
“Mum! Ma…Josh!” He stuttered, to Josha's shock.
…C-could he?
“M-m-mama Josha!” Boris finally got out.
“It's…” Josha started, incredibly stunned, “just Josha…”
“J-ju-justtt, Josha.”
Josha smiled at him, “yeah. You, Boris. Me just Josha.”
“Jusssst Josha,” he repeated warmly.
A beat passed before Josha would bring him in for a hug and place him with his brothers for the night. She couldn’t stop smiling at their little sleeping huddle.
“L-l-” Boris started, “L-love Josha.”
Josha smiled, getting a little teary eyed, “...Josha love you too.”

“How many would you like?” asked the shopkeeper.
“Uh, five please,” Josha responded.
“Five apples? That will be 15 rupees.”
Josha grabbed her money from her left pocket, holding a bag of more food in her right hand.
“Here you good.”
“Thank you, Josha!”
Josha put the apples in her bag, ready to make her way back home to put them up. She thought to herself whether she should’ve bought more than what she did, as the children were growing faster by the minute - even seeming to have grown an inch or two since last night.
…It would probably be fine. Besides, she had just got Purah off her back about her (fake) illness - no need to draw in extra suspicion.
So caught up in her own head, Josha bumped into someone in the square, not causing a massive scene, but definitely startled the person and herself.
“Oh! I’m so sorry, are you okay?” they asked.
“Oh yeah,” Josha started, brushing herself off, “It’s my fault really, my mind was somewhere else…”
“Just the consequences of the genius mind!” said Purah, who seemed to have been talking to the person before Josha bumped into them.
Upon a closer inspection, Josha realized she didn’t recognize this woman at all. She dressed in a way that, while not unusual, certainly appeared to be foreign.
“Josha, this is Ilia,” Purah introduced her, “she isn’t exactly from around here, so I was personally showing her the laboratory section of town.”
Josha jolted at the mention of the laboratory section.
“Don’t worry, I wasn’t go to bring her into your space without your permission,” Purah reassured, to Josha’s slight relief, “just explaining what it is we do here, and discussing our plans for expanding our work,” she gestured towards the ongoing construction of their renovations of the area, the foundations of the future facilities being built upon.
“I would’ve assumed you would be too involved in your studies to offer such a tour?” Josha questioned.
“Well, it would be more appropriate for the head of Sheikah Technologies to give a tour of our little campus to the town's soon-to-be mayor.”
A beat passed.
“Wait what?” Josha questioned once more.
“Yeah…” Ilia scratched the back of her head, “surprise!” she exclaimed awkwardly.
“Yes, Josha, she will be the mayor of our town that does not yet have a name,” Purah continued.
“Listen, I’m just as confused about it as you! Although flattered. I had been traveling around this kingdom for just a few weeks - visited nearly every region, learned a lot about each culture, nearly got mugged at one point by some people with weird mask and kind of dumb looking ponytail things-”
“They are pretty dumb,” Purah cut in.
“-And then just the other day, I meet this guy named Link, and we just get along to an uncanny degree - kinda like we knew each other in a past life or something - then after about a few hours of knowing each other, he basically just asks me if I wanted to be your mayor…and I said sure.”
“Yeah, sounds more or less like a Linky thing to do, and honestly, I have no issues about it.”
Josha took a second to process the lore that had just been dumped onto her in the span of a minute, but you know what? The line for how strange life could get had already been passed and destroyed.
“Actually, Josha,” Purah continued, “I actually was going to come talk to you before you bumped into us. We’re having a little get-together of sorts with the Sages and the princess tomorrow afternoon to more formally speak and present with our soon-to-be mayor. I was going to ask if you won’t do the honor of attending.”
Josha thought about it for a second; she was a bit uneasy about leaving the children alone for an unprecedented period of time, but she also didn’t want to reject what could be such a memorable occasion…
“...O-of course I’ll attend!” Josha responded.
“Great, we will join each other in the war room of the Sages base,” Purah gestured to the still-in-construction building across town square. The building slightly surpassed the height of even Purah’s laboratory, and the ceiling portion of the quarters hasn’t even been completed yet - just four-ish walls of brick and concrete.
“Will be there, Purah.”
“Alright then, see you soon, Josha!” she said as she guided Ilia elsewhere.
“It was nice meeting you!” Ilia waved.
…
Josha went into her quarters, immediately greeted my Boris, who had begun to start walking…they all began to start walking…
“...YOU GUYS ARE WALKING?!” Josha exclaimed, but in a very hushed voice, “Wait, how’d you get out of the closet?”
“B-brudah [brother] tall! Weech [reach] door!” Boris explained, gesturing to Morty.
“M-morty tall a-and swong [strong]!” Morty boasted (granted he was still a baby so it was more adorable than anything).
“S-s-s-strongk!” said Lance, repeating his brother's speech.
…Josha took a deep breath. She walked to each of them and lifted them up to the far side of the room.
“...Okay,” she sighed, “I’m going to be out for a little longer than normal tomorrow, understand?”
While they understand more or less, their expression did not do justice to prove that they did…
“...I know you guys are excited that you can speak, and walk around, but tomorrow, I’m going to need you three to be extra quiet, and extra still, okay?”
It took a second for them to process.
“Ek-stra quiet,” Boris whispered.
“Quiiiet,” Morty followed.
“Sssstill,” Lance finished.
“Alright,” Josha said, trying to lift the weight off her shoulders, “remember that, okay?”
“Ooo-kay!” Boris reassured, hugging Josha’s waist, followed by his brothers.
“...good,” Josha smiled, returning their cuddles.
