Chapter Text
The first class went by with all the normalcy—and boredom—possible... except for the fact that our young protagonist fell asleep for the last half hour, only to finally be awakened by the bell signaling the end of the period.
"What’s up, girl?" Light said, approaching to bother her, placing a hand on her desk. "What were you up to that you didn’t get any sleep?" he asked mockingly, as his girlfriend, Misa, approached.
"First of all: it’s none of your business," she replied, annoyed. "And second: why do you care?"
She didn’t even wait for her bully to answer; she just grabbed her backpack and started heading toward the art room with the rest of her class.
Thirty minutes had passed. Mihaela was seated at the back of the art room, headphones on, listening to a podcast about fanfics while trying to draw something she remotely liked. Her drawing was a portrait of one of her favorite anime characters, Kanato Sakamaki. She sighed, glancing at the window, when she felt her phone vibrate in her hoodie pocket—it was Matt.
MattDickMaster:
son todos unos boludos -
i’m so pissed -
Mellosa:
what happened?
MattDickMaster:
one of my little sisters broke something I had
Mellosa:
what was it?
don’t be mad at her, your sisters are little—she probably didn’t do it on purpose
MattDickMaster:
it was a gift for you xD -
i’d been saving it until we met up in the summer
Mihaela replied with a crying cat meme.
Mellosa:
what was the gift?
MattDickMaster:
not telling you, maybe i can fix it -
just wait for it -
muah
Near Sheep:
TOO MUCH AFFECTION -
MattDickMaster:
BUEE SE DESPERTO EL RANCIO XDDD -
Near Sheep:
DON’T TALK LIKE THAT, I DON’T UNDERSTAND YOU -
The blonde girl chuckled softly while finishing her drawing, accidentally catching the attention of the girl sitting in front of her.
"Is something funny?" asked a girl named Misa Amane.
"No, I was just reading something," Mihaela explained. "Sorry if I bothered you."
They didn’t really get along badly—Misa was just too prone to doing whatever her boyfriend said. Miha had offered to help her many times, but always got a tired smile in return.
"…Is that Kanato?" Misa asked, turning fully to get a better look at the drawing.
"Yeah, it is," Mihaela replied, a bit enthusiastically. "You like
Diabolik Lovers
?"
"I do—well, I’m not much into anime and stuff, but I watched the first season when I was younger," the Japanese girl admitted with a giggle. "Could you... recommend me an anime?"
Miha looked at her, a bit surprised.
"Sure!" she said with a smile. "If you want, I could make you a list?" she offered, playing with her fingers, a little nervous.
"Yeah, could you send it to me on Instagram?" Misa suggested.
At that moment, a bit of anxiety crept into Mihaela.
"I... don’t have Instagram," she replied, a bit unsure of how her classmate would react.
"You don’t?" Misa said, slightly confused. "No worries—do you have Discord?"
"Yeah, I do," Miha answered, somewhat relieved.
Their conversation continued quietly and somewhat discreetly, even though talking wasn’t forbidden in art class.
Later that day, Miha sighed as she threw her backpack—covered in pins and patches—onto her bed and flopped down herself. School life wasn’t what Disney promised, but it wasn’t what Twilight promised either. After a few seconds, she rolled over on her back, her blue eyes fixed on the ceiling.
She checked her phone—no new messages from her friends. She thought about starting the anime recommendation list she’d promised her... friend? Classmate? Bully?
Her mind quickly went blank. She hated going to school. Light and his friends weren’t that bad—just annoying. She’d had worse bullies in her life. Placing a hand on her chest, she noticed her breathing had quickened with the memories. Following her kind psychologist’s advice, she turned on her CD player and pondered: Vocaloid mix or MCR?
Finally, My Chemical Romance’s first album started playing. She sighed, grabbed her laptop, and logged onto Tumblr.
Time passed as she scrolled through fan art of her favorite series, loud music filling the room. This was her little Eden. No moment in her day was more precious than simply existing in peace.
The door opened.
"Hey!" her mom called out, snapping her from her trance.
"What is it, Mom?" Miha got up, paused the music, and walked to the door.
"You need to come down for dinner, kiddo."
Obedient, with a small smile on her face, she followed her mother downstairs.
Dinner was pleasant, lasting an hour, while Beyond’s absence was glaring—but not surprising. He was probably holed up in his room like a damn hermit.
Notification.
Back in her room, now in pajamas, Miha grabbed her phone and opened Discord.
MattDickMaster:
HEY, BEAUTIFUL <33
This time, it wasn’t in the server—it was a private conversation.
Mellosa:
hey, handsome -
just now got some free time to chat -
i’ve been taking care of my sisters all day -
honestly, i’m a little worried about what you told me yesterday -
MattDickMaster:
i get it...
don’t pressure yourself -
i’ll always be here for you no matter what -
Miha smiled at the screen, uncertainty creeping in: Is what he’s saying true? Will he really stay with me no matter what?
MattDickMaster:
i love you <3
Mellosa:
i love you too <333
