Chapter 62: It's a Pretty Little Bow

Chapter Text

Alucard's POV

---

He opened the door and flicked on the light, the sight making him stop for a second.

“ALUCARD, DON'T GO IN MY RO-”

“WHAT THE FUCK ?!”

As I stepped into her room, I could see the depression almost manifested physically.

Dirty clothes and a few scattered bottles, half-full of what might be piss everywhere and all sorts of out of place, the bed disheveled as if something had been tossing and turning every night, dust and dirt accumulating in corners and by the ceiling.  Presumably dead phone on her night stand, the vanity covered with a sheet, trash scattered about…

But the shining star of this depressing scene was a noose in the middle of the room.

Not great.

Quick footsteps caused me to turn around, staring at her silently.

We stared at each other for a second, her expression just tired and, well, depressed.

I pointed back to her room and asked, “Nene, is that a fucking noose!?”

“No, it's a cute little bow- Of course it's a fucking noose!”

“Nene.”  I turned around and pointed to it again.  “What the extra FUCK is this.”

“I just answered that.  Plus, it's not the first time you saw me with one,” She said with a small shrug and an eye roll.

The hell does she mean?

Alucard walked around one rainy spring day, looking for frogs.  The rain slid off his gray rain coat that his aunt insisted on him wearing, and he was rather glad she made him bring it.

He was happy to live in one of the greener areas of Philly, because frog hunting happened to be one of his favorite rainy day activities.

He saw some pink up in a tree and focused on it, confused and rather curious.

“N.. Nene??”

He knew she was the only girl that would wear a bright pink dress in this weather.

She looked horrified to see someone, maybe it was because he was an unpopular kid.

“Oh, hi Alucard.”

She held something behind her back, but he didn't question it, instead asking, “What are you doing out here?”

“Oh, nothing…  What are you doing?”  She cocked her head to the side, her action looking jerky and tense.

He didn't notice it, replying, “Looking for frogs.”

“Really?  I know the best spots to find one!”

She jumped down, and motioned to him.  “Follow me!”

He never did figure out what she had that day.

“So you were hiding a NOOSE behind your back?!”

She rolled her eyes again, crossing her arms and scoffing.  “Yeah, so what?”

“Nene, that was behind my house!  Not like my backyard, but further.  I would have been mortified if I found your body!”  I didn’t realize I raised my voice.

Whoops.

She quietly said, “Oh,” and moved around me, going to her dresser and pulling out some clothes.  “You're not gonna mind if I just hang out in a nightgown, right?”

“Nene.  I literally saw you naked like a few minutes ago, fuck if I care.”  And it's not even like I really saw anything, I was busy looking at that picture.  What a fruity bitch.

She wordlessly got dressed, so I took the time to tear down the noose.

“Hey!”

“It's not like you're gonna use it.”  I glared at her, serious about this.

She flippantly asked, “And how would you know?”

I threw it in the metal trash can in the corner, pulled a match out of my pocket, and struck it before dropping it in there too.

That can looks like it's seen too many trash fires.

“Now come on, let me make you something to eat.”

“Ugh!”
