Castiel’s Hatchling

Summary:

Castiel takes Jack under his wing, quite literally. Sam and Dean are very confused.

Chapter Text

Dean and Sam walked into the bunker, expecting to see Castiel and Jack lounging on the couch. But what they saw took their breath away. Castiel's wings were fully extended, wrapped protectively around Jack, who was curled up beside him. The wings were a deep, iridescent black, with feathers that shimmered in the dim light of the bunker.

Dean's eyes widened in shock, and he felt a shiver run down his spine. He had seen the shadows of Castiel's wings before, but nothing could have prepared him for the sheer beauty and power of the real thing. Sam's eyes were equally wide, his face pale with wonder.

Castiel's eyes snapped towards them, his gaze intense and warning. He growled low in his throat, his wings fluttering slightly as he pulled Jack closer.

Sam's first instinct was to intervene, but Dean held him back. "Wait, Sam. Let's see what's going on here."

Castiel's eyes snapped towards them, and he growled low in his throat. Sam took a step forward, his eyes flashing with concern, but Castiel's gaze narrowed.

"Get back, Sam," Castiel snarled, his voice low and menacing.

Sam froze, his eyes locked on Castiel's. "Cas, what's wrong with you?"

Castiel's response was a fierce snarl, his wings spreading wide as he prepared to attack.

Dean stepped forward, his hands held out placatingly. "Cas, no! It's okay. We're not going to hurt him."

But Castiel was beyond reason. He launched himself at Sam, his angelic strength sending Sam flying across the room.

Dean rushed forward, grabbing Castiel's arms and holding him back. "Cas, stop! It's me, Dean. It's okay."

Castiel's eyes flickered towards Dean, and for a moment, he seemed to see him. Then, to Dean's surprise, he relaxed, his body melting into Dean's embrace.

Castiel's eyes flickered open, his gaze unfocused. "Dean?" he whispered.

"Yeah, Cas. I'm here," Dean replied, his voice soft.

Dean held Castiel at arm's length, examining his face. "Cas, what's going on? You didn't recognize us."

Castiel's eyes were cloudy, his expression confused. "I...I don't know. I just felt a sudden urge to protect Jack."

Sam's eyes narrowed. "Protect Jack from what?"

Castiel's gaze flickered to Jack, who was still sleeping peacefully. "I don't know. But I know I had to keep him safe."

Dean's expression was grim. "Cas, we need to figure out what's going on with you. This isn't like you."

Castiel nodded, his eyes filling with worry. "I know. I'm scared, Dean. I don't know what's happening to me."

Sam's voice was soft. "We'll figure it out, Cas. We always do."

But as they stood there, trying to reassure Castiel, the air was thick with tension and uncertainty. What was happening to Castiel?

Chapter Text

Dean and Sam exchanged worried glances. The tension in the bunker was palpable, each of them on edge. Dean, ever the pragmatist, decided they needed to gather more information.

"Cas," Dean said slowly, "can you remember anything before you felt the need to protect Jack? Anything at all?"

Castiel frowned, his brow furrowing in concentration. "I was meditating, trying to connect with Heaven. Then, suddenly, I felt an overwhelming surge of...fear. But it wasn't mine. It was as if it was coming from somewhere else."

Sam stepped closer, his analytical mind kicking into gear. "Could it have been from Jack? Maybe he was having a nightmare or something?"

Castiel shook his head. "No, this was different. I felt an overwhelming surge of...instinct. It was powerful, almost primal."

Dean rubbed the back of his neck, frustration evident on his face. "Great, another mystery. Just what we needed."

Sam sighed, his gaze shifting to the still-sleeping Jack. "We need to wake him up. Maybe he can shed some light on this."

Dean nodded, moving towards Jack. He knelt beside the young Nephilim and gently shook his shoulder. "Hey, kiddo, time to wake up."

Jack stirred, his eyes fluttering open. He looked around groggily before his eyes landed on Castiel. "Cas? What happened?"

Castiel's wings folded back slightly, the tension easing from his body. "Jack, are you alright? Did you feel anything strange before you fell asleep?"

Jack sat up, rubbing his eyes. "Yeah, I felt like I needed this. I was really tired and you were protecting me, Cas. It felt...safe."

Dean and Sam exchanged another glance, this one laden with concern. "Safe?" Dean echoed. "From what?"

Jack shrugged, his expression puzzled. "I don't know. Just a feeling."

Sam sighed, rubbing his temples. "Alright, so we don't know what's happening with you, Cas. But we know it's not anything dangerous so far so that's something at least."

Dean's jaw set in determination. "There’s gotta be something in the lore or maybe even something human you can do."

Castiel's eyes met Dean's, a spark of hope in their depths. "Do we have books on angel instinctual behaviour?"

Dean set his hand in Castiel's shoulder. "Sam and I will hit the books, see if we can find anything useful, we'll let you know what we find. You and Jack stay here and continue your angelic cuddling."
