Chapter Text

Captain Piett was accustomed to being overly busy and receiving odd assignments. He was accustomed to the mischief of cadets and young officers. He had long since stopped being surprised by what they could get into. He prided himself on his ability to appear unflappable no matter what. When Lord Vader was unexpectedly delayed for a few days returning to the Executor, he had been given some additional orders. Most were routine with one exception.

Standing just inside the closed doorway of Lord Vader's mysterious “guest” quarters, he found himself surprised. Crossing his arms and clearing his throat, he unleashed his most stern and disappointed tone that he reserved for young officers who are in serious trouble. “Commander, get down right now.”

In front of him, perched on a precarious stack of couch cushions piled on top of a desk was a small blonde teenager who was intently trying to disassemble a recess light. Startled, the boy pinwheels his arms as he tried unsuccessfully to regain his balance.

Smothering a sigh, he strode over to where the boy now sprawled in a pile of cushions. Still radiating an air of stern disapproval, Piett asks, “Were you injured?”

Looking up sheepishly, the boy shook his head. “Are you going to tell, Fa-Lord Vader?”

With an exasperated sigh, ignoring the question and curious slip of the tongue, Piett sends a couple quick messages. Young Skywalker will need to be checked out by a medic. It was a bad fall and he thought the boy may have struck the welded down desk chair and/or desk.

“Really sir, I am not injured.” Insists the infamous rebel, as he slowly gets up while attempting to hide a gasp of pain. The boy looks up innocently with his big blue eyes. Piett sighs and shakes his head as he reads Kix's acknowledgement which included a warning that the boy’s parents and former master were all prone to ignoring their own injuries.

Only Kix, Veers, and himself know of Lord Vader’s reluctant guest. Since Skywalker may have found a way to escape, he will need someone with him constantly until Lord Vader returns. The three of them will need to split babysitting up. Piett needed to ask Veers to help better childproof the rooms. Maybe look into adding ray shielding in the walls and the ceiling crawl space.

It is going to be a long few days.

Notes:

Pray for Piett.

Vader had made sure all furniture and vents were firmly welded down. He had not considered that lights could be removed leaving a small hole perfect for his small son to try to wiggle through. He was unware that cushions were beloved by children for building and climbing.
