My Lawzawa Posts

Summary:

A collection of my L x Aizawa/Lawzawa meta posts from Tumblr.

Notes:

Since I deleted my account, my posts got lost and so, it's very hard for someone else to find out about this ship that has me in a chokehold, and forever will. So I am using this to share them (since I don't have the time to write a lenghty fic as a manifesto, although I have a holiday fic in the making that hints at it) and keep them online. Perhaps even reach and convert someone new, since right now it's me and maybe the two people that kept sending me asks, like thank you for supporting my madness.
I am only putting those in which I explicitly talk about Lawzawa, since I have many that are analyses about L but Aizawa's importance is just mentioned briefly.

Chapter 1: Posts

Notes:

I thought I had more posts about them, but it turns out I don't. I used to tag them a lot under random posts talking about dynamics and memes, though.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

I can’t stop thinking how good of a friendship and work-ship (?) L and Aizawa would have had if they had met differently. Aizawa has those traits that L needs in a person that works with him and even in a friend, and his “shortcomings” can easily be compensated by L’s traits and viceversa.

Aizawa is hot headed and ready to jump in the action immediately, whereas L is more cold headed and thinks carefully about any negative side effect an action may have, and stops anyone from acting carelessly (this is shown when Ukita died).

Aizawa is a family man, and L is an orphan (who cares for Aizawa’s family too).

Aizawa doesn’t trust people easily, and L is quite obsessed with earning the trust of others. He has to work the extra mile to get him on his side, but imagine how rewarding that must be for him. Also, it shows that Aizawa isn’t a fool who believes anyone and anything, which L definitely likes.

L literally says that he likes people like Aizawa, so there’s that.

Aizawa is not afraid to stand up to L and call him out, when he is being a jerk, and it’s something so important, because no one is ever there to do that to L. Everyone does what L says, so it’s nice to see someone that is willing to go against him, while standing in front of him, because his title as the world’s greatest detective shouldn’t make people believe he’s a perfect person, a god and untouchable.

And we can’t deny that, at the end of the day, Aizawa is stunned by L’s abilities. He may not like his antics, but he is definitely impressed by how such a young individual accomplished so much.

August 21st, 2023

At first, I thought it was an error, because I couldn’t see Aizawa behind the wall of text, but right before L dies, while arguing with him, he moves to his right for no apparent reason, which makes me wonder why. What did he think to accomplish by doing that? I have my L x Aizawa headcanons to explain it, but that aside, in Christianity, sitting at someone’s right hand is considered a position of honour, of trust and equal status. and Aizawa was the first one to doubt Light in the second part.

My L x Aizawa heart takes it as a confirmation of the fact that there was much more going on between them than what we see. I also want to know what corny shit L said to Aizawa.

August 28th, 2023

After leaving the task force, Aizawa wouldn’t stop complaining about L to Ide, to the point that Ide would know when he would start his rant and would try to leave the office as quickly as possible, maybe to get some coffee or something. Ide is like, "I am just trying to work", and Aizawa is just like, "L here, L there, L this, L that". Just go back to your ex-boyfriend, you dumbass.

December 20th, 2023

I like to believe that Aizawa saying that Soichiro is the head of the force now and they should follow his orders whatever they are is because he thinks that not following L’s orders got him killed, so he tries to make amends in this way. Ide even says that is not like him, so it would make sense.

December 21st, 2023

L x Aizawa with Ide’s unrequited love on the side. Send post. Truth is Ide knew that Aizawa would fall for L so he stepped down from working on the task force so he wouldn't witness it.

February 23rd, 2024

The anime adding that Aizawa also holds L's dead body and asks Mogi to take over/take care of L for him/to please stay with him definitely knew that 20 years later a fucking idiot would suffer over it. It bothers me though that all of the others left L, because in the manga, that didn't happen. They waited for a confirmation from the hospital. But Aizawa holding L's body will forever hunt me.

Notes:

I am leaving out the fact that they were wearing matching underwear at some point. And that Aizawa is the first one to be shown to have any type of reaction at L's death. And that Ohba admitted that he wanted to kill off Aizawa, but for some strange reason, he couldn't. I guess he unconsciously knew that L and Aizawa had to be together and that Aizawa needed to get revenge for the death of his boyfriend.

Also, Chlorine by twenty one pilots is literally them, from Aizawa's pov. And then Red by Taylor Swift. Feel Better by Penelope Scott as well. Francis Forever; Goodbye, My Danish Sweetheart; I Bet on Losing Dogs by Mitski, of course. I will stop before I list all the songs in my lawzawa playlist, but there are a lot.

Anonymous: if you're willing to, would you mind sharing some of L/Aizawa headcanons? if you're not comfortable sharing them here and would rather it be more private, DMs are okay too! Just offering options! But I'd really like to know your thoughts.

I have never written anything similar – I mean, just random headcanons – so I don’t know how satisfactory this is going to be, because some of these happened in the canon, which I take as hints that there is more going on between them, while others are a bit up in the air lmao.

SHUICHI AIZAWA:

Aizawa is in denial at first, not because he just realized he liked men, but because he fell for motherfucking L of all men. He would’ve had an easier time accepting someone like Ukita, Matsuda or Ide. Not L.

Because of this, he purposefully tries to start an argument with him more often – he thinks that by doing that he can erase his feelings. He is stupid and doesn’t realise that having a rebuttal with him makes him fall in love even more.

He is more concerned about L’s health but tries not to show it too much – he makes snarky comments about his eating/sleeping habits, saying how fucking ridiculous and unhealthy they are and that’s why he comes out with the worst hypothesis, like: “Maybe, if you got 8 hours of sleep, you’d be able to realise that that is absolutely the most absurd thing you have ever suggested.” Sometimes he slips up and he’s being obvious, like when L fell out of his chair, he literally screams, “Ryuzaki!” – gets down on his knees – “Are you okay?”, like who does that for someone they despise?

He is married and he is not the type of person to cheat on someone, so he really has to fight his feelings and suppress them.

He curses the world at night, when going to sleep, because, as he tries not to think about L, he obviously thinks about him.

He sweats when he finds himself alone with L for long periods of time, because: “I am being too obvious, for fuck’s sake. Of course, he knows I like him and he’s going to make fun of me any minute now.“

The glow up he had after L’s death is a post-breakup kind of glow up, so that he can make L regret dying on him like that – have you seen his fucking muscles? This man went to gym to get over his ex, I am telling you. At night, he definitely nods to himself and says, “Wouldn’t you love to have me now, L, huh? Too bad you can’t!… Too bad you can’t…” and tries not to cry.

After L’s death, initially he couldn’t go to his grave because he still didn’t want to accept that he died. He was angrier than sadder, because, for all that time, L pretended to know better than anyone what was going on, and then he just died. The first time he went there alone and just stayed in silence for a few minutes, before saying that he is a fucking loser. Then, he just left and cried in his car shortly after.

He then gets used to go to his grave and does that regularly – he has some kind of imaginary bickering, saying something and following that up with what L would’ve said in response. Before leaving, he always says that he misses him and wished he wasn’t dead.

After catching Kira, the first thing he does is telling him – “When will you ever be wrong?”

L LAWLIET:

He isn’t in denial about his feelings – he knows why he likes Aizawa and doesn’t find it weird at all that he fell for him. He just doesn’t get involved in romantic relationships, since he’s busy with his job/the Kira case. He thinks it will be counterproductive. He simply states that he likes him (as he did in canon), without going the extra mile to get into a relationship with him (also because Aizawa is married, and he respects that).

He frequently asks about his well-being and the one of his family – he also suggests that he doesn’t overwork himself. Aizawa finds it ironic, since he’s the first one not to take breaks.

He sometimes flirts with him in his own weird way. Aizawa doesn’t realise it most of the times and thinks he is just being corny (and he said in the canon, “I’ve always hated when you say corny stuff like that”, which implies that it happened before Aizawa leaving, and we just didn’t see it).

He seriously cares about his opinion and favours him over everyone else in the task force – when Aizawa turns off the screen showing Misa and Light, because he told him to stop doing that, and L doesn’t get angry but says, “I am sorry”, like, what? L would never do that with anyone else. Or when Aizawa points out that Misa hasn’t had water in three days and soon after L gives her that. There are strong implications in the canon manga that L is fond of him, other than explicitly saying that he likes him, so the ship is just right there in front of everyone’s eyes.

GENERAL:

Both have “acts of service” as love language – like, if L knows your house has a problem, he is going to fix it for you, but won’t say a word until you bring it up to him, and he’ll be, “Oh, yeah, I did. What do you think?”. He works mostly in the shadows and waits for the other person to say something before talking about it. Aizawa doesn’t have that type of manpower, so he doesn’t do something so big, but since he was willing to go out to Ukita, he really does everything for the ones he loves or cares about. He pours all his heart into his actions for others.

Also, “words of affirmation” – L says directly and upfront that he likes Aizawa, and he praises/thanks the task force when they do something good. Aizawa, on the other hand, doesn’t hold back, when stating his opinions (especially of L), so I can see him to that even when he is being affectionate.

In this way, their love languages are compatible, which I think, at least in their case, is perfect for a healthy relationship – minus the fact that L going behind his back to do him a favour would piss Aizawa a bit off, but Aizawa would tell him to stop doing that and L would probably comply, after getting used to it, of course. And they would then discuss things together, even though I still feel like L would still do something important in secret, but it is to surprise him, so it isn’t the same thing.

[AU in which L survives and they are one step from catching Kira] L tells Watari something about preparing for their departure, and Aizawa realises in that moment that they are not going to see each other soon or ever again, so he starts to question L’s proofs and whatnot even more than usual, just so they can investigate together for a little more. L knows the reason why he does that and reassures him, without being obvious, asking instead Soichiro if he can contact them in the future, in case he needs any help, since he found himself pleased with how the investigation went.

[same AU + Aizawa is unmarried] Aizawa is the first one to explicitly say he likes L and at first, he isn’t able to fathom that L reciprocates.

“Why don’t you admit your feelings?” L asked, taking a sip of coffee, his back to Aizawa. “I will leave soon.”

Aizawa stood still for a few seconds, gazing at the hair of the man he hated so much, which had taken up a place in his brain and heart, like a parasite feeding on the feelings he had for him, and which he couldn’t get rid of in the slightest, because it had found a regenerable amount of food.

“Okay, fine. I like you.” He finally admitted, as he had no reason to hide anything any longer.

He had always suspected that L knew. After all, he was the greatest detective in the world. But he didn’t do it for that reason. It was more that it was only a few hours before they would be separated for an indefinite amount of time; therefore, he would no longer have to show up in the morning there and see him – even though that was what he wanted most in the world, and he had tried unsuccessfully in every way to slow down the investigation, but, in the end, they had caught Kira, or, rather, Light Yagami, and he could do nothing but watch L be even more unreachable as the minutes ticked by.

The only good thing, according to him, was that the distance would allow him to slowly and painfully accept the reality, which was that he had been an idiot for falling in love with him.

L said nothing in front of his confession, which only irritated Aizawa, but rather than show the fact that it bothered him, he preferred to choose a less painful road to the cliff, so that at least the journey would be pleasant.

“Now, what? Are you going to be my boyfriend or something?”

“If you ask me.”

“Yeah, right…” He chuckled. “Is this one of your games, again?”

L shook his head. “I did it for you… The request to Chief Yagami.”

And Aizawa is like, “Wait, are you fucking serious right now?”.

In another AU, I can see Aizawa saying that he likes him, and L is like, “I am sorry, but haven’t we been boyfriends since the beginning?” just to mess with him.

Two NSFW HCs:

[unmarried Aizawa AU + not boyfriends yet] They definitely have hate-sex in another room, trying to make as little sound as possible, so the others – all working in the main room – don’t hear them. L is the one to initiate things verbally, making snarky remarks or teasing him to get him riled up and, especially, to get a reaction out of him, which he gets, and Aizawa hates it, because he is playing L’s tune. Aizawa is on the dominant side of it all, and L is the one more satisfied (not only sexually), for sure. Aizawa hates that he enjoyed it as much as he did, and always says to himself, “this is the last time”. (!It never is!)

[unmarried Aizawa AU + boyfriends] I honestly believe that Aizawa is very caring, so he really takes aftercare seriously, like extremely. L’s favourite place is the couch, while Aizawa’s is the shower.

4. How do they compare to each other’s exes? Are they the same “type” or an upgrade/something different?

Since L is bitchless, the only person here to consider is Aizawa’s wife – ex-wife, in this case.

I don’t know much about her, to be honest. I just know she injured Aizawa so badly that I’ve seen people speculating him being victim of DV – I don’t consider it here, so they resolved everything peacefully.

Either way, L is definitely something different for Aizawa. He might have met many people that are insufferable, but none of them made him fall in love with them. I wouldn’t say it’s an upgrade, because Aizawa himself doesn’t feel like the type to classify people, especially his ex-wife, whom he has kids with.

L, on the other hand, even if he doesn’t have an ex, can’t help himself but praise him and think of him as an upgrade. I don’t know why, but to me L is the type of boyfriend to give compliments and treat them as facts, which would be an issue for Aizawa, if they were to work together full time – that is, if Aizawa left the NPA and accepted L’s job offer. For others, they might look like statements to describe Aizawa’s abilities, but he would know that L is just complimenting him and would get mad, because that is unprofessional. It would be very easy in this case to calm him, because L would just need to say, “I am just appreciating you and your work” for Aizawa to fold. He would still say that he cannot allow that with a more passive tone. He might even add that people might get the wrong idea, and L would be like, “is it really wrong?

10. What was their last big fight? What did they learn from it?

In canon, their last big fight was the one that led to Aizawa leaving. I don’t think L learnt anything, since he was doing it for a reason, while Aizawa surely learnt that L isn’t as heartless how he thought he was and that… He cannot stay away from him for too long. This asshole couldn’t even wait a month before coming back, and you cannot tell me that he wasn’t about to go back to him at least 14 times before that.

In my ideal future in which they get to work side to side for the rest of their lives, I think their biggest fights would be about L’s tactics and only in the beginning, because L would learn to compromise and choose less ruthless methods. Aizawa would understand his reasoning and accept some of what he does, but he would still try to follow a more “lawful” way of doing things.

I don’t think they usually have big, big fights about this, in which they scream at each other and all, because I cannot see L scream and I feel like Aizawa would flee the scene when things get to a certain point, and I truly 100% believe L would go after him to sort things out (during their canon fight, it feels like L didn’t turn to look at Aizawa because seeing him walk away/the idea of losing him hurt him, but now he can go after him and talk to him). I can see Aizawa sitting outside and sipping on some alcohol and L just sitting next to him before having a heart-to-heart talk.

11. What good do they bring out in each other?

[After I wrote this: I don’t know if this actually answers the question to be honest lol]

I feel like I’m repeating myself, so instead of saying the obvious –  that is, ability to compromise and take someone else’s point of view seriously in consideration for L and be more level-headed for Aizawa – I’ll go for something concerning day to day life.

L would value his health more, just because Aizawa is really fucking concerned about his eating and sleeping habits. He would also be more willing to clean the mess he makes, when Watari isn’t around to do that for him, just because Aizawa feels really like the type to like a clean house. I can see him getting a bit annoyed that L is putting all the dishes in the sink and on the kitchen top, instead of using the dishwasher or just washing them, but, at least, he is putting them in the kitchen, so little steps.

Aizawa would learn not to take everything too seriously and would appreciate the little things that contributes to everyday life. He seems to allow himself to relax only when the job is done, but – in my ideal future – working alongside L would make him find a way to mix the two and be relaxed while working.

14. What little things remind them of each other?

Things that remind Aizawa of L:

L’s flat number where they first met face to face – we don’t know it, but whatever it is, every time it comes up somewhere, he thinks about that. He is a really nostalgic character, in my opinion.

Snow – again, because it was the 31st of December and was snowing that day.

Coffee creamer packets – they have a trash can full of them because of L, so every time someone asks him if he wants one, he keeps thinking about him filling it up and that he needs to empty it.

Definitely any pastry shop he drives by – he even wants to stop to buy him something, and sometimes he does, but since he really cares about his health, L needs to cut down on the sugar intake.

Greengrocer’s – to calm this urge of his that I just mentioned, he buys him fruits (more than usual, because L does eat fruits) and vegetables. So, sometimes Aizawa comes home with a grocery bag full of these and L is confused. Aizawa tries to explain it by saying, “you need to be healthier”, which is a code phrase “I thought of you while driving by a pastry shop”.

Things that remind L of Aizawa:

Socks – Aizawa keeps buying him some pairs so he can start wearing them. He never does.

Zapping – Aizawa does that when bored, and L can hear the sound of different channels, which, in the beginning, bothered him, but then got used to it and now actually likes hearing it in the background, because that means that soon Aizawa will get up and go sit next to him, either to help him or watch him do his stuff.

Blankets – especially heavy ones. I think Aizawa sleeps in underwear and covers himself with heavy blankets to keep him warm. And I also headcanon that when L falls asleep in his chair and is peacefully resting to the point that it would seem a crime against humanity to wake him up, Aizawa covers him with a blanket.

3. What’s their favourite thing to tease each other about?

Wrote this in another ask, but Aizawa loves to tease him about his unhealthy habits and correlate them to the ideas he deems stupid.

On the other hand, I don’t believe L has something specific that he teases him on, but he loves to be overly corny with him in the worst moments possible, because that’s the thing that gets Aizawa the most annoyed and L finds it funny.

6. Do they have pet names for each other? Do they like them?

I honestly believe they would first use pet names ironically and, after a while, they would become so used to the sound of them that it would become all unironic. I don’t know exactly what pet names, but “darling” for sure from L, because of his Scottish accent (I headcanon him to be born in Scotland, sue me).

11. What good do they bring out in each other?

L would be more willing to compromise and Aizawa would be more level-headed. It’s something I keep repeating because I believe this is the only part of their relationship that needs working on the most, so it’s good that Aizawa is there to keep L in check when he gets into illegal stuff or doesn’t maintain his word (when he said that he would not look at Misa and Light through the CCVT and Aizawa saw him do that and turned it off for him, with L saying “sorry :c”) and L to be there to offer Aizawa more reasonable responses to difficult situations.

21. If they live together, how do they split household responsibilities?

I can genuinely picture Aizawa wearing cleaning attire (apron, headgear, gloves, bandana and having a mop in one hand and a bucket in the other). I don’t know why but I headcanon him to be into cleaning, but of course, he would want to deal with finances as well, together with L, because he wouldn’t want L to deal with them all alone. L would reassure him that is no biggie for him to pay for all the stuff (rich ass bitch) and that he can just make decisions, but Aizawa would obviously deny and contribute as much as he can. Besides, it’s good to be financially independent even if in a relationship.

About the kids, because I honestly feel like they would have them eventually (either AU in which Aizawa never had kids and they adopt them or L becomes their stepdad), I can totally see L wearing a baby sling and take very good care of them.

Lastly, the cooking is definitely done by Aizawa, but L would make sure to be around him when he does that, to help him in case he needs it. “Help him”, I mean, set the table or give him whatever he needs, because he doesn’t know jack shit. However, with a kid involved, he would go the extra mile to learn to cook something edible to give them.

Usually when I picture their homelife, I imagine Aizawa working mostly outside the house, like a middleman between L and the world, so L is the one who will have more time with the kid, so he has to evolve into his very-responsible-father form.

25. Who said “I love you” first?

Contrary to popular belief (literally no one), L. And he wouldn’t say it nonchalantly,  because he knows that it means a lot to Aizawa, since in my headcanon scene of Aizawa’s confession, he doesn’t believe that L could ever feel the same as him. I think L would value his partner enough to understand the weight of some words. Also because Aizawa’s first reaction would be literally freezing on the spot and be confused, so he would need L to reassure him that he means those words.

30. Where is their relationship the strongest?

Communication. Not because they are both direct so there isn’t any chance of miscommunication, but because they would learn to expose their point of view and listen to the other very carefully. In a working setting, they would also be so good at cooperating, as soon as they agree on their strategies/approach. I always say learning, because I truly think their relationship would help them both grow as people, understand the other better and cultivate healthy habits.

They deserve it and I think they would make it happen. In a fandom where toxic ships are the basis, they won’t subscribe to that. I won’t let them.

Anonymous: Forgive me if I'm wrong, but if I remember right, you don't believe Eriko is abusive to Aizawa and chalked her hitting him up to Ohba's misogyny knowing no bounds. But imagine if L found out Aizawa was in an abusive relationship. Just imagine that.

Actually, I don’t know if I believe it or not. But the more I think about it, the more I am leaning towards it being possible. In my main L x Aizawa universe, they even get separated because they keep arguing and she always ends up hitting him, and he can’t deal with the stress of the case and the one at home, so he thinks it’s for the better, for his kids as well, because they can’t grow up in unhappy house like that. So, he goes to live to the HQ, while still fulfilling his duties as a dad (picking them up from school, etc.).

I don’t know where Ohba’s misogyny comes into play here, because it seems to me is more of a “straight couple” joke. You know, the one about them hating each other and the husband treating the wife as shit, but here the roles are reversed, so it’s supposed to be a funny ah-ah thing, but it’s honestly just weird. (Now that I write it, I can see where the misogyny is).

There is also that scene, after Aizawa leaves the task force, in which Eriko says that he should’ve told her, so that she could have prepared food for him too. This logic is a bit weird, in my opinion, like just make 4 portions and if he comes home late, he’ll reheat it and eat it. Or if he doesn’t come home, that can be eaten the next day, like it felt like a shitty move on her part to just decide not to make more food, knowing how overworked her husband is.

In any case, if he were in an abusive relationship and L found out, without Aizawa telling him:

I don’t know if he would try to pull something like he did in the manga, in which he makes him leave the task force so as to resolve the conflict at its root, because he would still be in an abusive relationship (and L wants to keep an eye on him) and there would be resentment, since he had to leave the case he had been working on for months because of her.

I think L would instead first try to ease his workload so that he can spend more time at home, without making the reason obvious. Then, if nothing is resolved, I feel like he would straight up tell him to divorce her, not only because it can’t be a liveable relation, but it can also hinder his performance on the job, and he needs to be fine mentally and physically to catch Kira.

In my main L x Aizawa universe, L notices that Aizawa comes to work with bruises on his arms, that he tries to cover up, and then one day, in the middle of night, he just shows up there, saying that he argued with his wife and didn’t know where else to go, and they talk about it. So, L tells him to get divorced and Aizawa reveals that he was already thinking about that.

So, yeah. I’m already imagining it.
