Chapter Text
The trio had finally gotten their food, Chocolate Bar immediately was ripping apart his grilled cheese, taking the bread pieces apart but enough about him. The pancakes looked real good, having butter given on the side of them as well as tiny bottles of maple syrup. They felt uncomfortably greasy somehow as he moved them off the plate. He buttered up the slabs of cooked batter before putting a small amount of the syrup on the pancakes. Real maple syrup was not meant to be added to food in large amounts in his opinion, he’d often keep the little bottles and use them at home. They were really good, real nice and sweet.
He started cutting up the pancakes, his hands shaking with the small slow movements. The syrup got both absorbed into the pancake and dripped down the sides as the quiet scraping sound of the knife and fork against the plate continued. Once he had finally cut the smaller pieces out, he started to pick them up with his fork. The warm food entered his mouth, putting another piece on his fork as he was chewing, fiddling with the fork as he turned his food to mush. Breakfast for dinner is great.
The other two were never really talkers, Chocolate Bar was usually vocal on his opinions, he’d been getting better on that and keeping his thoughts to himself however. Brainy mostly only spoke when another was directly talking to him. Neither of them were good at starting conversation, it used to be fairly easy during Object Cringe because you could just talk about whatever was happening in that moment. Usually nowadays they just sit together in silence doing their own thing.
“Food good?” Planky asked his mouth full, chewing on the pancakes.
“ugh, close your mouth Planky.” Chocolate Bar looked up, he’d already eaten one of the bread slices, he was scooping some of the soup onto the other slice with the cooling cheese.
“Uhh it’s alright. Uhhh yeah, it’s good.” Brainy finished chewing on his food before speaking. He looked towards the wall instead of the other objects next to him, and went back to eating once he had given his input.
The rest of the meal went over smoothly. It was funny when Chocolate bar’s bread slice broke, spilling some of the soup onto him, he was really upset though.
The pancakes were sweet… as one could expect, there’s not really many ways to describe pancakes after a certain point it’s repetitive. But they were really good! The empty plates were all laid on the table. Planky unfocused his eyes, seeing the world in blurry blobs of mostly brown and white. It was especially nice whenever he was having a headache to unfocus his vision. It also sometimes helped when things were too loud as ironic as that sounds, maybe using less energy on seeing helped with having enough energy to stand louder noises.
“Uhh alright, so do we want anything else to go? Do you want to go look around the shop or should we just go home?” Brainy asked
“I’d like to see the shop.” Planky got up before remembering that they hadn’t paid yet. He sat down stacking the plates on top of others. Brainy paid before they left to see what the shop had to offer. And they split off from each other. In Front of planky was the section for their thanksgiving and Christmas. Planky didn’t know much about clothes but they did just look cheap and thin all except for a few outfits. There were some decorative festive earrings, which if he had piercing holes would be very fun and cute to wear. Maybe he should get piercings?
Then he headed over to the toy corner. Most of the items there were bad, but at least there were a couple goodies to find. Plushies were overpriced. Honestly it’s more about the marvel of it all, occasionally you might find something you find worth it, but today wasn’t one of those days for Planky. He just wandered around the place. It was starting to get stale, looking at the items. So he went to look for the other two.
He remembered Brainy mentioning something about books, so Planky went where there were the most books. They were mostly children’s books, the area was more for festive stuff, at this time of year The Grinch was the most prominent character in the section. That and Nightmare Before Christmas characters. But in that place was only all the christmas stuff, Brainy wasn’t there. Well maybe he’s picked something and is already paying for it. But there wasn’t anyone at the counter.
Maybe he’s in a different part of the store. He started wandering around again. But that boy just didn’t show up! Was he hiding? Did he leave the place?”
Eventually he found Chocolate Bar he was holding a candle. He was quickly and repeatedly tapping a foot on the ground. Before he completely stopped when Planky was visible to him.
“Hey Planky you’re looking off, what’s going on?”
“I can’t find Brainy, do you know where he is?”
“uhhhh Brainy… oh yeah yeah. He’s in the car, he went to start up the car, and uh yep.” he started to walk up to the counter with the candle and Planky followed behind him. Chocolate Bar talked with the person at the register before he finalized the candle purchase. He let Planky smell it as well, it was a simple one, just cinnamon scented.
They both took their leave entering the outside. they were hit with the chili temperature of the month. It was now fully night outside when they got out. The only things making the area visible were the streetlights and other cars. They grabbed each other's hands as they made their way to the car.
Planky got into the backseat seeing the silhouettes of his friends infront of him as he sat in a seat putting on a seat buckle.
“So Chocolate Bar, how was your first experience with Cracker Barrel?” Brainy started moving the car as he started the chit chat.
“Uhh it was good, i-umm there was some good food.” Chocolate Bar drifted off in his speech.
“Well that’s good.” Brainy had already had them leaving the driveway by now, and they were on the drive home, light entering the car through short bursts of the streetlamps. He grabbed out his phone, noticing a new crack on the screen but choosing to ignore it to put on some music. Since Brainy didn’t like to have music on himself. He set the phone down after picking a song to play in his headphones (y’all can imagine, I really don’t know what’d he would pick.) there was a strange disconnect between what he was hearing and what he was seeing. But Planky didn’t really mind, so he just sat in place for the rest of the way home.
