Chapter Text
It was another gloomy overcast day in Gotham, the thugs were griping, the cabbies were honking their horns and Batman was chasing the Joker through the streets. Joker's goons were fighting the rest of the batfam while the Joker ran down a side street full of small stores and shops. Everyone is panicking and trying to flee the scene or enter one of the stores for cover. The Joker seeing Batman closing in on him laughed loudly and reached into his pocket.
“Hey Batsy, think fast!” He yelled lobbing a grenade into the crowd of panicking Gothamites.
As everyone panicked and stumbled over each other to flee, a red headed young woman stood still almost confused as the grenade flew straight at her. Pulling her hands up from her sides she instinctively caught the grenade as everyone covered their heads and screamed. Batman reached out but the girl closed her hands around the grenades and there was a bright flash and a muffled ringing of the ears. Everyone slowly realized that they weren't hurt and opened themselves back up to look at the young woman still standing. Frozen in place they all stared at the woman as she looked from her hands, up to Batman a few steps away from her and then around to the Joker standing near the next alley frozen in shock and then back to Batman.
“Oh thank goodness you're here Batman, the joker just threw this grenade at all of us and tried to hurt these innocent civilians.” The woman said in a flat and monotone manner, “Here, I think you’ll need this for evidence.” she said, stretching out her arms in front of Batman and just motioned towards his gloved hand.
Batman slowly rotated his hand over and opened his hand as she opened hers and dumped the shrapnel into his hand, noticing a piece stuck between her fingers she plucked it out and placed it in his hand and dusted her hands together letting some soot and dust fall into his hand as well.
“There you go, that should be enough,” she said flatly as she started backing up.
Nightwing dropped in now and tackled the unresponsive Joker to the ground as he handcuffed the Joker and joined in on staring at the girl.
“Okay,” she said, a nervous bounce up in pitch causing her to croak it out before clearing her throat. “It looks like you have this all covered, wrapped up, secured even,” she said, giving a double thumbs up still moving backwards towards the exit of the side street. “Keep up the good work, um, yeah. Bye!”
The woman took off running as she reached the end of the street and disappeared while everyone just looked from the end of the alley, and then finally at the remains of the grenade in Batman’s outstretched hand.

Three hours later.
Danny entered the apartment he shared with his sister with several grocery bags and a case of water tucked under his arm. He stood at almost six foot six now, finally hitting his growth spurt his senior year of highschool.
“Jazz, I’m home!” he said walking into the kitchen to find his sister sitting at the table with her head resting on the surface facedown. “Everything okay?”
She just let out a long groan and pointed at the laptop sitting on the edge of the table. Putting down all of the groceries he spun the laptop around and saw a video posted on the Gotham community site. Pressing play he watched a somewhat blurry and pixelated cell phone recording of what happened to Jazz earlier in the day. Watching the whole video, including her deadpan acting as she handed over the shrapnel and her less than stellar exit from the situation had Danny laughing and holding his side as he fell to the floor.
“It's not funny!” Jazz yelled getting to her feet and starting to pace back and forth, her hands on top of her head fuming. “People could have been hurt!”
“I think you handled it perfectly.” Danny said now on his back looking up to his sister, smiling like an idiot.
“Batman was there! They saw me catch a grenade with my bare hands and contain the explosion! We are trying to keep a low profile here!” she said, panicking as she paced even faster.
Getting off the ground Danny walked up to his sister and pulled her into a tight hug. “You did the right thing, you saved all those people. Danny gently patted her head as she calmed down a little. “Besides, the video was horrible, all pixelated and blurry, there's no way they’ll be able to get a clear image of you. We’ll be fine, don’t worry about it. And if anything does happen we can ask Tuck to get rid of it.”
“Your right, your right, okay. There's nothing to worry about. We’ll be fine.” Jazz said, breaking the hug and taking a few deep breaths.
“Better?”
“Yeah, thanks.”
“Now what's not any better is your acting skill.” he giggled, “Oh, thank goodness Batman.” he said in a flat monotone, “We were in so much danger! Whatever would we do without our fearless caped crusader?” Danny said stiffly, jutting out his hands in dramatic fashion.
“Danny!” she balked, smacking her brother's arm with a giggle.
“Please take all of this evidence for this evil, evil criminal and lock him up!” he continued, stifling a laugh to keep his voice as flat as possible.
Jazz tackled Danny onto the floor and started to smack his back and arms as he laughed like a hyena. “I was stressed and freaking out you butt, It's nothing compared to your hero quips when you were Phantom back home. ‘Oh yeah, You and what toaster’, ‘Hey, you take requests? How about Beat It’ You can’t make fun of me when you do comebacks like that.”
“Okay, okay I give, I give.” Danny said laughing.
“Good, now help me put away the groceries,” She said with a smile.
