Gentle Sounds

Summary:

Sonia and Nessa have different thoughts as they talk. It's fine. (Yes, it's fine, but it will be also a bit silly.)

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Chapter Text

Anybody can get an applin. This is selected for one. Sonia recites the words in her mind again as Nessa waves.

Sonia’s been tense ever since Nessa arrived. Has been tense for days, grows even tenser during their talk, making her fear the worst. Her fear skyrockets in the silence. The strange ringing, gentle and bright, barely helps.

Sonia finally blushes; inhales; shows her palms.

Two silver bells – a boat is etched onto one, a flame onto the other.

“Nessa. I’d like to be your harbor, the lighthouse guiding you home, always. Will you marr-”

Nessa trips into the ocean.

Chapter Text

Years of training guide her body to dive safely into water. She now knows why Sonia was nervous. If only she could grow gills and hide forever, that would be nice.

The end of a rope ladder splashes into the water. Sonia comes climbing down. Or they could talk.

“Did you fall for me again?”

… That’s what she says instead of anything, anything else?

Witnesses saw Gym Leader Nessa dive in the harbor. When they peer over the edge, curious, Nessa yanks Sonia from the ladder.

“My answer is yes to both, by the way.” She kisses Sonia’s water-laden pout.

Notes:

No worries, I have a sequel in the works that's a proper resolution! I won't leave these two hanging. Also yes, Nessa facefaulted and tripped because she expected a different conversation because of Sonia's nervousness.

I might start writing more drabbles? This is fun.
