Chapter Text
They walked together on the deserted beach on a summer afternoon, hand-in-hand, as the sun beamed upon them. The calm, gentle murmur of the waves seemed to whisper secrets that only they could hear; it beckoned to them.
Hermione's voice broke the peaceful calm.
"Ron! Let's swim!" exclaimed Hermione. She jumped into the waters. Ron gazed at her admiringly.
Wow, her hair is so big. Ron thought. But secretly, he was looking at her other big parts too. Wow, so cute.
Suddenly, his peaceful calm was shattered by a piercing scream. The water around Hermione was red, red, red. Her face was twisted in panic and pain before she slipped under the water.
Ron's heart hammered in his chest as he jumped into the sea's cold, salty, enveloping embrace to follow after her. He needed to save his girl.
Ron looked around but couldn't see Hermione anymore. But he did catch a brief glimpse of a dark grey fin slicing through the ocean, coming straight towards him.
There was no time for Ron to scream or turn away, as the menacing sea beast lunged forward. All Ron could hear was the roar of the waves in his ears, when he suddenly felt a powerful tug, and then a searing pain on his leg. He couldn't get away from the shark's jaws that had clamped down around him.
Tearing through Ron's flesh and bone, the shark's teeth yanked Ron back down under the water. He barely managed to see Hermione's head of bushy brown hair bobbing up and down in the water, metres away from one of her arms, and that's when a strange calmness washed over him. All the spells he had ever learned, all the battles he had ever fought, none of it mattered anymore now. It was all over. Ron's vision blurred and he could feel the strength draining from his body, as the last moments of his life slipped away from him. His mind flashed through snapshots of the life he had lived — moments with his family, his friends, and most importantly, Hermione.
And then, the world went black.
