The tears she shed were drying weirdly on her scarred cheeks. She had sniffled and hacked until she tasted the metallic bitterness of blood.
“Bethany Huntington!”
She flinched at the yell. Mother was screaming and thrashing at the police officer who kept her cuffed. She curled up inside the ambulance, hiding herself.
“Anne Blackwood?”
She looked up to the kindly man, who was patching up the scratches on her arms and faces. He was nice enough to use her name, not the name of her dead twin.
“W-Where… can I…”
It was difficult saying anything, her throat was sore and dry. Swallowing spit to hydrate it proved to be painful, Anne coughed again. Not everything was inflicted by Mother, she had just survived beating a particularly pervasive Wraith.
The man gently rubbed circles on her back, quietly observing her. She was grateful for it and leaned to him, her head nestled in his shoulder. He said nothing when she began to cry again, sobs shaking everything.
“So Clarisse Huntington lost her sanity and tried to kill her ex-husband, Paul Blackwood, because of Anne's wish for her family to be together?” QB asked Kyuubey, tails swishing as they surveyed the chaos of the police and emergency personnel swarming around the Huntington house.
“Yes. Anne has passed the despair level. The Law of Cycles would arrive on her,” Kyuubey replied. QB shrugged and quickly left the scene.
Anne was leaning heavily against the kindly man, feeling her eyes close and droop.
A whisper made her wake, to the sight of a beautiful woman gently flying a few feet above her. No one else could see her. Her swirling hair were dyed from only the finest of cherry blossoms. Her eyes were the burning gold of the rising sun. Her hands were spread open for her.
“Hinode no Megami...”
She couldn't believe it. Hidden online forums created by her fellow Puella Magi had extensively detailed the gentle woman who arrived to take those who had went beyond the despair level set by the Incubators. The Japanese had come up with the moniker, the Sunrise Goddess.
Anne smiled at her and closed her eyes for the last time.
