Under the Blinding lights

Summary:

To Jungwon, meeting someone in a club was a no-go for him. It was never on his bucket list, nor something he considered when looking for a partner. Not until Sunoo came into the picture.

Notes:

hi! yes, another sunwon brainrot🥹 i'm just a sunwon truther, after all🫡

this ratings only mature because there's alcohol drinking, clubbing, and such.

this is not beta read, so please excuse my inconsistent grammar, typographical errors, and poor vocabulary.

Work Text:

Jungwon swirls his glass filled with rum and ice as he looks around. He impulsively accepted his friend's invitation to drink since he was stressed. And for a club so famous, the amount of people dancing, drinking, and chatting around the place wasn't so bad.

His eyes immediately approached the entrance when a group of guys entered. He stared at them individually until his gaze locked in on one of them. He tilted his head as he observed him. Not bad—large almond-shaped eyes that shimmer with warmth, small and delicate nose, plush heart-shaped lips, slender and well-proportioned body, a subtly defined shoulder that gives elegance and confidence—wait, am I seriously checking someone out?

Jungwon never felt so attracted to one person. He never willed himself to find or look for someone, especially in this environment where the possibility of actually meeting someone genuine is very low.

What he didn't expect was his gaze being met by this guy. The eye contact only lasted for less than two seconds, but still, he didn't place any type of meaning to it even though his impression of the guy lasted in his mind.

The majority of the time during his stay in the club was just drinking, playing some random games with his friends, talking, and vibing with random remixed songs blasting. And for some reason, he always catches that guy looking at him, their eyes meeting before breaking after two seconds.

It irks him, how their smiley faces suddenly turn serious when their eyes meet, how there was some kind of tension that lingers in which only he and this guy feel—he's bothered how his desire to know this guy gets bigger.

Eyes met once again, but this time, Jungwon tilted his head, smirking as he watched the guy's face etched with amusement.

Their gaze finally lasts more than two seconds, it's as if they have their world—the music blasting gradually fades, the people around them suddenly becoming a blur as the strobe lights hover over the guy’s face highlighting his facial structure.

The guy he was staring at grinned while shaking his head before turning his attention back to his friends. Jungwon’s jaw dropped, scoffing at himself for trying to audaciously flirt with someone in a club. He almost slapped himself for doing something out of his character.

Jungwon only exhaled before finishing his drink.

“Jungwon!” His friend called him while pouring a shot of tequila.

Jungwon smiled widely at his friend, taking the offered shot and drinking it in one go. His friends cheered from this as they swayed.

Unbeknownst to Jungwon, the guy earlier was inching closer to his friends at Jungwon’s table. Naturally making their way as they try to dance with other people as well.

Jungwon's friends suddenly cheered, surprising him as their gazes were on him until he realized they were not looking at him—they were looking at the guy behind him.

With huge curiosity, he turned around. His breath hitched, not expecting his cat-like eyes to meet a fox-like one. The moment was fleeting, and yet, it felt like it was stretched from how both of them were still—in the midst of a chaotic environment.

“May I?” The guy charmingly asked his friends, head flicking towards Jungwon. The latter’s friends giggled, entertained how their studious friend was now finally being asked out.

Jungwon is the epitome of a scholarly socialite. Someone who's an academic achiever but knows how to have fun as well, he's basically living a dual-life dynamo. However, he's a bit stuck up, especially when it comes to the romantic aspect of life.

But now, right in front of their eyes, Jungwon getting speechless in front of a guy? It was a sight to behold. And so, from the moment the guy asked that they were enthusiastically supportive.

“All yours!” They shouted, making the guy bite his lips while grinning widely.

“How about you?” He asked Jungwon, “Do you mind?”

His gaze on Jungwon was deep and unwavering as if he had been waiting for this exact moment.

Jungwon gulped, his heart stuttered, the quiet intensity between them unfolded as the guy in front of him patiently waited for his answer.

“Sure,” Jungwon whispered his answer, not surprised by the squeal from his friends. This was a first, a definite first for him.

The guy’s smile widened, biting his lips as he offered his hands to Jungwon.

“I'm Sunoo, you?”

“Jungwon.”

Jungwon only planned to shake his hand, but he was once again surprised at how Sunoo smoothly turned their handshake into an intertwined one.

“Just, let me know if you're uncomfortable with me doing this to you,” Sunoo informed him, this is something he would not imagine himself doing in this environment.

“Okay…”

“Do you want to dance?” Jungwon, still dazed, only managed to nod his head.

Sunoo snaked his hands to Jungwon’s waist, closing the space between them and making Jungwon circle his arms around Sunoo's neck.

As their gaps close, they both look into each other's eyes, swaying as the silent conversation unfolds in the space between them.

As the music changed to a slow and romantic one, their eyes were still on each other, and the tension between them softened. Jungwon realized how nice it feels to be delicately held, and how surprising it is to see a person’s eyes so clear and transparent.

They both really never bothered talking, they just let this moment talk for them instead.

“Are you seriously not gonna ask me or something?” Jungwon curiously asked.

“If I did, then this thing between us is all there is.” He paused, “If I did, then I wouldn’t have more reason to see you, to meet you outside this setting.”

Jungwon’s breath hitched, it wasn’t a response he was expecting. He was speechless, how could he meet this type of person during this. During this time, he was actually glad he accepted his friend’s invitation.

Before he could respond, the music changed once again—September by Earth, Wind, & Fire. It was a cheerful song, a contrast from the previous song. He came to his senses when Sunoo tugged him, his eyes from serious turned to crescent-shaped, now accentuated with his signature playful expression.

Sunoo took his hands off of his shoulder, taking Jungwon’s left hand, and spinning him. Their hands now intertwined—very delicate yet firm, the effortless push and pull movement drawing them close together. Every step and every spin they make creates an unspoken conversation. As they dance, the laughter escaping from their lips slowly blends in with the music.

He looked at Sunoo’s face, grinning—his dimples appearing gave a boyish charm, making him even more enchanting. This is about them, Jungwon and Sunoo, despite not knowing each other—there is a connection. Something like an invisible string finally found their way to each other.

As the song finally ended, they both laughed. Jungwon’s pulse quickened, and he felt heat creeping up his face when realization dawned on him–they were now the center of attention. The people cheering at them, chanting “kiss.”

Sunoo tilted his head as he finally had Jungwon’s attention on him, eyes asking if he wanted to or not. Jungwon lips parted, hands now cupping the older’s cheeks as he closed the space.

The loud cheers seemingly faded out, both melting from each other's warmth. The kiss was soft, full of unuttered words–questions they wanted to ask and confessions to say–but both ignored, wanting this night to last.

Wanting what they have continues even when the sun is up, sober, and finally full of genuinity.

They rested their forehead against each other as they parted. Eyes shining under the blinding lights as they both grinned.

“Would you like to exchange numbers? That way, we can finally know each other–without alcohol inside our system–just you and me.” Jungwon finally initiated.

Sunoo’s grin widened, “Of course, I would love to.”
